00:48:21can set up the linebacker so well

00:48:23and he really feeds off the energy

00:48:25of the lineman when he feels those

00:48:27types of blocking concepts and

00:48:29pours that energy right back in

00:48:30it's got to be a special thing to

00:48:31feel oh absolutely I mean the guy

00:48:33is an absolute ball of energy when

00:48:35it comes to all that stuff and you

00:48:37know the one concepts that I think

00:48:39the Rams have done a great job with

00:48:40over these last couple years is

00:48:42honestly mixing up a little bit of

00:48:43a wide zone hit them to hit them

00:48:45tight with duo and all of a sudden

00:48:47you get just on the edge on a wide

00:48:49zone and get those guys out in space

00:48:52but vertical not a wide zone where

00:48:54you're headed straight to the

00:48:54sideline but you know you're

00:48:56creasing through a sea gap if you

00:48:57can and they just do such a good

00:48:59job of putting a move on the first

00:49:01guy I mean some of the stuff I

00:49:05can't remember exactly what it's

00:49:06called that was not a running back

00:49:07but that kind of stanky leg when

00:49:09they first put that foot in the

00:49:10ground and then go the other way I

00:49:11mean some of the stuff it almost

00:49:13hurts me watching it on film later

00:49:15Jordan waters took a stanky hit right

00:49:17there a flag comes in

00:49:21Rodney Shelley screaming through

00:49:32personal foul unnecessary roughness

00:50:14right there was against the rules

00:50:18going back to this Rams running game

00:50:28how multiple and versatile everybody

00:50:32is from the guys up front to be able

00:50:34to do all kinds of different blocking

00:50:35concepts Rob including those layered

00:50:37zone runs but also really Sean McVay

00:50:41always says he wants to marry the run

00:50:43in the past and when you look like

00:50:45you might either run a screen or a sweep

00:50:48but it's really a carry and it's to

00:50:50the outside or you can switch the

00:50:52direction it really puts defenses in

00:50:54knots what I really hope to see and I

00:50:57would expect to see a little bit more

00:50:58of this year as well is getting those

00:51:00running backs more involved in the

00:51:02passing surface because they can stay

00:51:05on the field on third down and

00:51:07because some of those outside runs

00:51:09marry very very well to getting the

00:51:11ball to the back in space how about

00:51:13the quarterback to you want a Super

00:51:14Super Bowl playing basically out of the

00:51:16shotgun and 11 personnel he won an MVP

00:51:18mostly under center and 13 personnel

00:51:21guy can do it all I mean the guy's

00:51:23pretty good you know I didn't want to

00:51:24have to say this on air but I think

00:51:25he's got a pretty good shot of making

00:51:27the team you know I mean the guy's got

00:51:28potential that was actually right there

00:51:34on the screen I'll go ahead and give

00:52:48and and you know went was trying to

00:52:50pick up those extra yards but did take

00:52:52some contact as well he's a little

00:52:54shaken up after that so Ty Simpson it

00:52:56looks like will be coming back into the

00:52:57game Reggie Scott over there with

00:53:02Caldwell for the moment Simpson was

00:53:07sensational in the first half only

00:53:08asked to hand off here as Connors

00:53:11burrows for a few more Nick Barrett a

00:53:13fifth-round rookie out of South Carolina

00:53:15with the tackle

00:53:26those are some of the more scary things

00:53:29when you can't see something

00:53:30that's a great sign and then maybe

00:53:37looks like his foot rolled up underneath

00:53:39him just a little bit there that's an

00:53:42awkward fall and you you almost hate to

00:53:44see those you know call it what it is a

00:53:46non-contact injuries because you know

00:53:48with my time around the NFL usually

00:53:50those don't end up really well so I'm

00:53:52I'm hoping and praying that he's that

00:53:54he's gonna be okay and he's obviously

00:53:57walked off on his own accord so that's

00:53:59a great sign the name of the game here

00:54:01too is keep the other guy safe Ty

00:54:04Simpson back out on the field I'm

00:54:06expecting we'll see quite a lot of

00:54:08handoffs yeah it may be even on fourth

00:54:10down in less than one upcoming here as

00:55:37yeah well one it was a new experience for

00:55:39me because I'm used to taking bus two

00:55:40over the state

00:55:44I was used to taking bus two I've

00:55:46taken for 11 years on the way to the

00:55:48stadium and now I'm on the media bus on

00:55:50bus six and so that was a change for me

00:55:51and then I got on the bus is full and

00:55:53then Lasky got on with another rookie and

00:55:56he's like oh this bus is full like

00:55:59somebody told me to come here and I

00:56:01said hey come on down sit down like

00:56:03don't worry about it we'll get you to

00:56:04the game it's your first game you're

00:56:06starting at left tackle so you know I

00:56:08just introduced myself said hi he knew

00:56:12who I was and I obviously studied and

00:56:14knew who he was and so we were just

00:56:17kind of having a conversation and then

00:56:19I think it as things kind of warmed up

00:56:21he did you know he honestly started

00:56:22asking a bunch of really good

00:56:23questions about like how do you how

00:56:25do you stay calm which obviously was

00:56:27on the forefront of his mind making

00:56:29his first career start at left tackle

00:56:30after he just played center at

00:56:32Georgia and so he was I just kind of

00:56:34gave him some words of wisdom as best

00:56:36I could and hopefully it helped out

00:56:38you know if even if even a little

00:56:40bit yeah it was one of the coolest

00:56:43things I think I've ever gotten to

00:56:45hear

00:56:49as the Chargers take a timeout here

00:56:51it's it was so cool because it was

00:56:55these generations of players and you

00:56:57in a new world and him coming into

00:56:59your old world it was incredible all

00:57:03right time to take a trip around the

00:57:05league who's Derek yeah it's time for

00:57:07that California resources trip around

00:57:09the league now back in June the NCAA

00:57:11started this new five and five rule

00:57:14which basically means that college

00:57:16athletes can play five years in five

00:57:18seasons and this started something

00:57:20brand new because now you have NFL

00:57:22players for an example like former

00:57:24Cleveland Browns tight end Daquan

00:57:25Wright now trying to go back to

00:57:27college to play a fifth year now

00:57:29Sean McVay was trying to comprehend

00:57:31all of this and he said quote I feel

00:57:33like I just took a freaking gummy

00:57:34end quote but now the NCAA some of

00:57:38those big conferences like the ACC

00:57:39Big Ten Big 12 and the SEC have

00:57:43banned NFL players from coming back to

00:57:45collegiate level guys still that way a

00:57:48little bit as I watch Harbaugh call

00:57:50timeouts here at the end of preseason

00:57:51game number three on defense as the

00:57:53Rams look to run out the clock well the

00:57:55man is always going to compete J.B.

00:57:57he is always going to compete with an

00:57:59enthusiasm unknown to mankind but this

00:58:06whole conversation about professional

00:58:08players going back to college I feel

00:58:10like I'm Sean I'm right there with you

00:58:12whoever who would have thought we were

00:58:14happy we would ever have this

00:58:15conversation when talking about pro

00:58:17sports guys are leaving NFL training

00:58:20camps to try and go back to college I

00:58:23mean it's just it's wild wild stuff I'm

00:58:27I'm glad that the college is out there

00:58:29went out and said no you can't do that

00:58:33and so it's I mean the whole thing blows

00:58:35my mind don't you have an extra year of

00:58:38eligibility though to do five for five

00:58:40rule I might actually have to come back

00:58:42and you know I seem to know Sean pretty

00:58:45well so maybe he'll go ahead and start

00:58:47recruiting me again Rams are forced to

00:58:51punt it away one more time here in game

00:58:53three of the preseason Ethan Evans gets a

00:58:58good hop and rolls it inside the five

00:59:01and all the way down to the one where

00:59:03Tanner Engel touches it for a long field

00:59:06and 324 remaining so some good vibes for

00:59:09even the punter to take with him on the

00:59:11plane to Melbourne that some Ethan's been

00:59:15working on too is the touch of that leg

00:59:17obviously the legs got a ton of power

00:59:19but it's those plus 50 points the right

00:59:22at 50 where can you place it where you

00:59:24want right there is a excellent example

00:59:26of that I think some of the plays that

00:59:28got guys the most fired up on the

00:59:30sideline last year were a couple of

00:59:32those very very well placed drop

00:59:34shots essentially oh yeah where he's

00:59:36got the power but somehow the ball

00:59:38just sinks he's got some spin on it you

00:59:41know there's been a long history of

00:59:43hunters on this Rams team that can

00:59:45pull a lot of different golf clubs

00:59:47out of their bag yeah and to see him

00:59:51working on it and doing such a great

00:59:53job there it's just it's exciting to

00:59:55see who doesn't love a good special

00:59:56teams play JB let's start to put our

00:59:58closing thoughts on what we've seen

01:00:00this preseason what your takeaways are

01:00:02and how they translate to what's about

01:00:04to happen in two weeks time in week

01:00:05one in Melbourne Australia well for me I

01:00:08saw what I needed to see out of Ty

01:00:10Simpson and yes I know that with

01:00:12Stetson Bennett as the backup

01:00:13quarterback and this thing still very

01:00:15flexible down the season stretch here I

01:00:18really appreciated how Ty Simpson was

01:00:21able to stack these preseason games in

01:00:23a very very productive way from

01:00:25initially playing within the the

01:00:27confines and the parameters of this

01:00:29offense and what the coaches designed

01:00:31for him to cutting it loose here in week

01:00:33three of the preseason well one of the

01:00:35best throws I've seen in a preseason

01:00:37game for the touchdown yeah yeah he's

01:00:39done him and Stenson have done such a

01:00:42nice job this preseason where honestly

01:00:44the most exciting thing for me is that

01:00:46the competition continues I mean who

01:00:48doesn't love that who doesn't love two

01:00:50guys truly compete and trying to get the

01:00:52best out of each other just trying to

01:00:54find what's best for the Rams and the

01:00:56fact that both guys have done a good

01:00:58job is you know gives them the right to

01:01:01both still compete in Clifford with that

01:01:05first down catch and the officials

01:01:07will stop it at the two-minute warning

01:05:24Rams by two against the Chargers 20 to

01:05:2618 the defense makes it stand up a

01:05:29strip sack from Peterson recovered by

01:05:31Zedroik the clincher let's give our
