00:16:17Touchdown L.A.
00:16:20I'm really am proud of you, man.
00:16:222-2 for 88 against the Colts, our play that shook up a game.
00:16:26Brought to you by Shake, he's the People's Pizza Parlor since 1954,
00:16:29as you may have seen on your social media feeds earlier this afternoon.
00:16:33He's back after signing with Miami in free agency,
00:16:36traded for Jarquez Hunter straight up earlier today.
00:16:40Yeah, it's a little 2-2 deja vu here
00:16:42because he obviously has made some big-time explosive play contributions
00:16:46for the Rams and never quite broke into the rotation full-time.
00:16:51It's just been such a loaded team at receiver.
00:16:54But 2-2 Atwell plays every receiving position.
00:16:57He knows them all.
00:16:58Even has bragged that he could be an emergency quarterback, even in a pinch.
00:17:02And he's got the wheels to get behind the defense.
00:17:05So happy personally to see him back.
00:17:07I'm sure a lot of his teammates are too.
00:17:09Absolutely.
00:17:09I mean, 2-2's just got such a special trait of he can just open up and fly.
00:17:13And so that's something, obviously, Sean and the offense.
00:17:17We're looking forward to go ahead and take the top off some of the defense.
00:17:19And he does it very, very well.
00:17:23As for Jarquez Hunter, a draft pick a year ago, had that breakout performance
00:17:27last time we were here on Saturday against the Saints,
00:17:30including that fourth quarter touchdown.
00:17:32He now continues his career with the Dolphins.
00:17:35And so a little bit short at running back tonight.
00:17:37We've already introduced Jordan Waters.
00:17:38Here's Dean Connors as well.
00:17:40I want to steer the conversation back to Ty Simpson.
00:17:43And Robert, I think one of the thoughts that you surfaced after talking with Sean McVay
00:17:48is that the way the Rams operate at quarterback behind the scenes will be different this year
00:17:53without Jimmy Garoppolo and with two emerging talents at quarterback behind the MVP.
00:17:58Yeah.
00:17:59Usually the, you know, the scout team quarterback, the guy taking all the reps, is your number two.
00:18:04So he can go ahead and get his reps of, you know, obviously playing the position of quarterback,
00:18:08but in the interesting situation.
00:18:11Connors able to crack one.
00:18:12A first down above the 35-yard line.
00:18:15Troy Tye shoved him out.
00:18:18I'll get right back to that, JB.
00:18:20But right here we've got to go ahead and look at the big fellas up front.
00:18:22A little pressure.
00:18:23Everything's washed down.
00:18:24Cutting off the heels of linemen.
00:18:26Balls in the right hand.
00:18:27All the little details are right.
00:18:28You love to see that from the young fella.
00:18:31Lowering his shoulder a little bit, too.
00:18:33The young man wants the smoke here.
00:18:35So finishes with a dozen.
00:18:37And we'll call this next play from Ty.
00:18:39And, you know, just to backtrack a little bit, Stetson Bennett's been so valuable to the Rams.
00:18:43While Matthew is playing starters snaps.
00:18:47And Jimmy Garoppolo has filled that QB 2 void for a couple of years now.
00:18:52Here's the rookie on platform.
00:18:54Goes underneath to Daniels.
00:18:56And stumbles up to the 45-yard line.
00:18:59So all that to say that when you've got a 2A and a 2B, Rob,
00:19:02they're going to try and work both quarterbacks in preparation for the season.
00:19:05Yeah, absolutely they are.
00:19:07You know, it sounds like they're going to be splitting reps on the scout team
00:19:09and really taking this 2A, 2B on, you know, very seriously.
00:19:12And so the competition continues.
00:19:14And I think that's, when you're talking about the Rams, that's a wonderful thing.
00:19:18I mean, just the competition is going to breed excellence.
00:19:21And so it's going to, you know, someone is going to become the guy at some point.
00:19:26And hopefully not during this season.
00:19:27And, you know, number 9 stays healthy because we all know how good he is.
00:19:33Simpson looking to flip his hips.
00:19:35Takes off instead.
00:19:36Goes into a baseball slide.
00:19:37And they appear to have marked him down just shy of the line to get.
00:19:41It's such a unique situation too.
00:19:43This is the first time that I can recall the Rams actually operating their QB 2 situation this way.
00:19:51The scout team is going to be interesting because basically you're running the opposing team's offense.
00:19:57And you're trusting the quarterback there to do that.
00:20:00And so they'll really want to make sure they get their reps in Sean McVay's offense as well.
00:20:04And that's where a man like Dave Ragone, the quarterback's coach, really, really comes in handy.
00:20:09Sean McVay has been singing his praises all preseason.
00:20:13And also spending a ton of time, a ton of time with all of the quarterbacks on the roster and
00:20:22really trying to prepare them.
00:20:24Preseason for the officials too, using their virtual technology to check the spot of the football and confirming that it
00:20:30is third down.
00:20:31And just to trace the course of the summer, obviously you draft Ty Simpson, the highest pick in the Sean
00:20:36McVay era.
00:20:37But then Stetson Bennett gets off to a great start in the offseason program in the first couple of weeks
00:20:42of training camp.
00:20:43Really asserting himself as the backup behind Matthew Stafford.
00:20:47And then you go to Kansas City and Ty Simpson's so impressive.
00:20:50He's the talk of the town.
00:20:51Yeah, I think the cleanness, the way he got in and out of the huddle and how confident he was
00:20:57in the operation.
00:20:58You know, it's what we also saw from Stetson Bennett to open training camp when he was playing in the
00:21:04full twos reps.
00:21:05That is what we saw from Ty Simpson as well on the field in the preseason.
00:21:09So it's like you guys said, it's a good problem to have.
00:21:12It's an interesting problem to have because I am really curious about how the development plan unfolds.
00:21:18Yeah, I mean, it makes a lot of sense because when you're running that scout team quarterback, obviously you're going
00:21:23to play a lot of different types of quarterbacks.
00:21:25So you've got a running quarterback.
00:21:27You've got a pocket passer.
00:21:29Great job here by Dean lowering the shoulder, getting that first down there.
00:21:32Big fellas behind him churning just enough for it.
00:21:35Love it to see.
00:21:36Love to see it.
00:21:37But when you're talking about that scout team quarterback, I mean, you're playing a bunch of, you know, if you
00:21:41go play the Ravens, you know, obviously you've got to go emulate Lamar Jackson.
00:21:44I think what Stetson's done on the ground, obviously two touchdowns last game, like it's an easier transition to go
00:21:50ahead and get those guys, you know, the best look possible.
00:21:54When you talk about the command at the line of scrimmage from the rookie, another instance there where it looks
00:21:58like he's getting the first play and willing to hand it off on first down.
00:22:01Yeah, that's what you really love to see is they have the confidence in him to give him the two
00:22:06plays in the helmet.
00:22:07That's Nate Shieldhouse that's calling the game tonight, the offensive coordinator.
00:22:11And that is an important thing to note.
00:22:13That shows growth.
00:22:14That shows confidence and command.
00:22:16These are all the little details that coaches wanted to see and build for Ty Simpson as the preseason progressed.
00:22:23Second and eight.
00:22:25Wings one out to the sideline, able to find his rookie tight end Max Clair.
00:22:29Second round pick out of Purdue and Ohio State.
00:22:33Troy Dye with another hit and they mark him out at the 43 yard line.
00:22:39Another third down opportunity for Simpson and the Rams.
00:22:44And me just being a fan right now, I just, I love the way that Nate is calling this offense
00:22:49right now.
00:22:49It's, it's, it's very friendly for the quarterback, for the offensive line, for the receivers to kind of get into
00:22:55this game.
00:22:56And then hopefully as the game starts going, really start kind of breaking this thing out.
00:23:00See if we can't see something fun.
00:23:01Ty needs two against the blitz, able to find a leaping Alex Bachman to keep the drive alive.
00:23:07And watch Ty be so clear here as he stands and looks at the rush coming, looks at the arms
00:23:14trying to get into these lanes here.
00:23:16And, and stands and fires off to his receiver.
00:23:20That is a big third down for the young guy.
00:23:23Even more important than that is Jordan waters coming over here and picking up the blitz.
00:23:27You know, obviously you'd like to see him get a little bit more room from the quarterback when he sets
00:23:30his feet.
00:23:30But when he set his feet, he was strong.
00:23:32He was sturdy.
00:23:33Ron Gould would be happy that, well, I think his hands were inside.
00:23:36You know, if not, he needs a couple more reps on Big Bird, but.
00:23:39First down play action.
00:23:41Ty has to step up, feeling the pressure.
00:23:43Now he takes off.
00:23:44He got some wheels close to another first down for the Rams.
00:23:50Love to see him avoiding the rush here.
00:23:52You know, it does happen every now and again.
00:23:54The right tackle gets etched.
00:23:55He's pushing, but he steps up in the pocket.
00:23:58Two hands on the ball.
00:23:59He's out there.
00:24:00His eyes are downfield the whole time because that puts pressure on the defense because they don't know what's behind
00:24:05them,
00:24:05especially when a play breaks down like that.
00:24:07And then he's able to use that athleticism to get out there and get us a nice second short.
00:24:11The combination of that third down where he did look like he wanted to run a little bit,
00:24:16but then took what he had with the offense for that conversion and then takes off here seeing his opportunity.
00:24:22That's huge.
00:24:24Jordan Waters stumbling and sliding to another first down.
00:24:28Rob, you spoiled us for more than a decade.
00:24:30I'm picking up what you're putting down there with your right tackle commentary.
00:24:34Absolutely.
00:24:35Every now and again, every, you know, once in a blue moon.
00:24:39I was just fortunate enough to play with such great quarterbacks with Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford.
00:24:43They've made me look a lot better than I actually was.
00:24:46Four minute of our first quarter Rams looking to answer the Chargers touchdown recapture the lead.
00:24:52You hate to say, you know, woulda coulda shoulda, but that stumble didn't happen there.
00:24:57That looked like I was going to be a big player coming the other way.
00:25:01Tight end Mark Redman on that catch.
00:25:03One of the favorite designs from this Rams offense.
00:25:07That tight end leaking out late Andre Carter makes the tackle,
00:25:12but the Rams at the top of the red zone now for Ty Simpson.
00:25:14And JB, that just shows that he's really going through his progression.
00:25:18Like, I know we've mentioned it in games past, but he's really playing the position right now.
00:25:21So he's going through where he's where his eyes are supposed to look.
00:25:24And then none of that's open. He hits his tight end on a late league.
00:25:29You know, positive yard. Second of five.
00:25:33I think five. Second of four.
00:25:35That was a tackle.
00:25:37Got a little flare to him too with that sleeve on the right arm there, Rob.
00:25:41Looks just like a slightly younger Matthew Stafford.
00:25:45Great spin move there.
00:25:46How about Dean Connors?
00:25:49Showing no fear right there, especially with the Nick Tuff rib.
00:25:52I know that thing kind of hurts.
00:25:55Look, I'm sure it's not lost on Jordan Waters and Dean Connors that even though the top of the running
00:25:59back room is very well solidified with those top three,
00:26:03there's going to be a spot on the practice squad, maybe multiple spots for them to stick with a championship
00:26:08organization.
00:26:09Oh, absolutely.
00:26:10You know, and then whether you can, you know, contribute on special teams, you know, there's flexes from the practice
00:26:15squad all the time.
00:26:16You get three of them before you have to get paid the big bucks.
00:26:19So I know a lot of guys have been doing that.
00:26:23Ty's got them on skates right now.
00:26:25Chargers spend a time out there on defense before first and 10 from the 15.
00:26:29Time out.
00:26:30Defense.
00:26:32They're first of the half.
00:26:33Our official tonight.
00:26:35The 2-24.
00:26:36Thank you.
00:26:37Time out.
00:26:38We'll pause here with the Rams trailing 7-3, but knocking on the door again with the first round pick
00:26:44at the controls for Sean McVeigh.
00:26:46They're on the field.
00:26:51Ball 2-22 to go in our opening frame.
00:26:54Down 7-3 and looking to answer the Chargers touchdown.
00:26:57Ty Simpson making his first preseason start on this drive is 4-4 for 25 yards passing.
00:27:03And he's scrambled a couple of times for 11 yards as well.
00:27:07One of the things I am watching tonight, and I know the coaching staff is too,
00:27:11is how much faster his process is speeding up the more game reps he gets.
00:27:16There's a big difference from, you know, the speed of practice and the speed of games.
00:27:21And his delivery is quicker and more assertive as well.
00:27:24That's definitely noticeable from practice to game for Ty.
00:27:27Connors again so good out of the backfield.
00:27:30We saw that a lot in the opener at Arrowhead.
00:27:32Looks like he's got enough for first and goal running around out of the backfield.
00:27:36Just looks so natural to him.
00:27:38He just does such a nice job, looks at him the whole way,
00:27:41and he was flirting with getting out of that tackle too.
00:27:44I mean, his contact balance, he's done a very nice job with this preseason.
00:27:48Two receiving touchdowns already to his credit.
00:27:51Sets the Rams up first and goal from the 4.
00:27:53Here comes the 14th play of the Rams drive.
00:27:57Ty Simpson under center, giving to Connors, who tumbled for one.
00:28:03Tony Jefferson around that edge to get him off his cleats.
00:28:06Second and goal.
00:28:09Tony Jefferson at age 34.
00:28:12Dozen seasons, still going at it for the Chargers.
00:28:15Hey, be careful how you talk about 34-year-olds here.
00:28:19That's a spry young age.
00:28:22You're looking down at a guy on the wrong side of 40, Jordan.
00:28:25So that's a humble brag by you.
00:28:27We'll take it.
00:28:28Water steps into the backfield.
00:28:30Simpson sinks into the shotgun.
00:28:32Feeds his tailback.
00:28:34He'll try it again up the gut.
00:28:36Enough removal for the one.
00:28:38They'll have to snap it again on third and goal.
00:28:40Andre Carter helping to keep the Rams out of the end zone for now.
00:28:46Especially when it comes to red zone run game.
00:28:48Just to let everybody know, as long as you're gaining yards, you're doing a good job.
00:28:53So we got third and short here.
00:28:54It's been great.
00:28:55The whole playbook has opened up.
00:28:58Not that I'm going to predict what's going on here, but expect to see a little movement from Ty Simpson.
00:29:08A 16-play drive.
00:29:10Simpson gives.
00:29:11Waters!
00:29:12Comes up short.
00:29:14It's fourth and goal.
00:29:16Marlo Wax delivered the hit.
00:29:21Oh, that was a collision right there.
00:29:25Yeah.
00:29:27Just built a wall right in the running lane right there.
00:29:32Good job by Waters holding on that thing.
00:29:35I mean, that was a big hit right there.
00:29:36Got a guy falling on him, a guy in the hole.
00:29:38When we talk about situations, we're going to see a really crucial situation for Ty Simpson here.
00:29:44Fourth and one at the goal line.
00:29:47Final seconds of the first quarter.
00:29:49He and the Rams have to snap it again.
00:29:53With a man in motion.
00:29:55Gun run.
00:29:56Fourth down.
00:29:56Have to have it.
00:29:57And he is short.
00:30:01Waters stuffed again.
00:30:03Chargers take over on down.
00:30:10Tony Jefferson and the Chargers with a goal line stand at the end of the purse.

00:30:41Early takeaway by the Rams defense.
00:30:44Nick Anderson collecting a fumble recovery to get the Rams off to a 3-0 lead.
00:30:48Justin Herbert and the Chargers answered with a touchdown.
00:30:52And Herbert's night is through.
00:30:53His preseason is done.
00:30:54Trey Lance is the new quarterback.
00:30:59And a handoff that bounces.
00:31:01And the Chargers get it out above the five with some breathing room.
00:31:04And it's time for a player interview.
00:31:06Brought to you by the California Resources Corporation.

00:31:12Let's bring in the should have been NFL Offensive Player of the Year from 2025.
00:31:17Puka Nakua is with us tonight.
00:31:18Puka, how you doing?
00:31:20Life is good.
00:31:21Life is good.
00:31:21It feels good to be back in SoFi.
00:31:23Get the juices flowing.
00:31:24Watch some of these young guys get going.
00:31:26CJ, young CJ Daniels getting one nice and early.
00:31:28So it's fun to see the White House make plays.
00:31:30Puka, how you doing, baby?
00:31:32Big Rob here.
00:31:33Haha, what it is.
00:31:34What up, man?
00:31:35My old locker mate right there.
00:31:36Yes, sir.
00:31:37Hey, number one, you look great, man.
00:31:39Are we still on the McDonald's or have we go ahead and kick that thing?
00:31:43You know, I'm kind of glad to you, Big Rob.
00:31:45There's still every once in a while in the morning, well, on one of our Tuesday mornings
00:31:49that we get off, I'll slide it through the drive-thru and give me a McGriddle every once in a
00:31:53while
00:31:54with the hash brown.
00:31:54But it's not as often as it used to be.
00:31:56Perfect.
00:31:57There's no more McDonald's at the hotel on Saturday nights.
00:32:00I got you.
00:32:00That's perfect.
00:32:01Hey, Puka, the hack is put part of the hash brown on the McGriddle.
00:32:04That is a training camp hack that I picked up many years ago.
00:32:07It is a game changer.
00:32:08Oh, we're on the same language.
00:32:10That's how I know you know ball right there.
00:32:11Yeah, I like that.
00:32:13Hey, Puka, what can you tell us about C.J. Daniels?
00:32:15I'd love to hear your scouting report on the young man.
00:32:18I think his confidence from one thing that Coach preaches a ton in the wide receiver room
00:32:23from Coach Yarbrough to Coach McVay is staying grounded.
00:32:26I think from his time from coming in at OTAs to where he's at even just today,
00:32:30watching that first catch, just the confidence of attacking the football
00:32:33and that allowing him to play with his strengths and the physicality.
00:32:36I'm like, it's been really fun to see him get these reps and to excel in that,
00:32:39not to make the same mistakes, and then it's been really fun.
00:32:42I feel like his confidence has shot through the roof.
00:32:46Puka, the good news is your defense got a three and out.
00:32:48The charge is about to punt, but there's still a lot to talk to you about,
00:32:50including Tutu Atwell coming back to Los Angeles.
00:32:52Will you stick around for one more segment?
00:32:54Yeah, 100%.
00:32:55All right, we'll take a quick commercial break after this.
00:32:57Punt is shanked out of bounds and great starting field position for Ty Simpson and the Rams.
00:33:03We come back with Puka Nakua.
00:33:05It's the preseason finale in Inglewood.
00:33:15For Ty Simpson, who's 9 of 10 so far tonight in his first preseason start,
00:33:19he's found six different Rams receivers.
00:33:22Let's find the Rams receiver we were speaking with before our most recent commercial break, Puka Nakua.
00:33:27Nice enough to stick around for a couple more.
00:33:29And we were just eluding the fact that you found out today Tutu Atwell is coming back to your receiver
00:33:33room.
00:33:33What was your reaction?
00:33:35He texted in our receiver group chat and he said,
00:33:38I'm back.
00:33:38And I was like, man, we should grab some dinner.
00:33:40He said, I'm back for real.
00:33:42And so I was super excited, dude.
00:33:44Good to see a familiar face coming back to wear the right colors and be back with the squad.
00:33:48We're excited to see Tutu.
00:33:50Super excited to have Tutu back.
00:33:53Hey, Puka, you talked about the young fella, CJ Daniels.
00:33:55Let's talk about the old fella, Devontae Adams.
00:33:58What specifically have you added to your toolbox from all the good things that Devontae has done?
00:34:04I think something that he excels at is at the line of scrimmage and then at the break point.
00:34:09His forward body lean as a receiver, the illusion is everything is a go ball until it's not.
00:34:13I think his confidence to be able to put his foot in the ground in the quick game
00:34:18and in the intermediate game and then when we get a chance to open up downfield,
00:34:22just that body lean and the shape that he has to be able to put his foot in the ground
00:34:25is something that I feel like has been an emphasis for me just watching it,
00:34:29seeing it every day in practice, the high level that he does it at
00:34:32and being like, all right, if I'm a couple years younger,
00:34:34I should be able to try to emulate something like that.
00:34:36So it's been fun to continue to push my standard because I'm watching Devontae.
00:34:39And Puka, can you explain to the viewers a little bit more
00:34:42about when people talk about having late hands the way that Devontae has,
00:34:46it's got, it's, you know, some of the best I've ever seen, honestly,
00:34:50selling that play all the way to the end.
00:34:52Can you explain to us what that is?
00:34:54Yes. Late hands, when the ball is coming,
00:34:56give it no indicators to the cornerback or the defender when that ball is coming
00:35:00and catching it at the last moment.
00:35:02Sometimes it is a body catch.
00:35:03Sometimes you've got to catch it away from your body and use your hands.
00:35:06And that's what I feel like Devontae does.
00:35:09There's some of those late hands where it's coming up
00:35:11and the ball is obviously in the spot where he knows it's going to be with number nine.
00:35:14But finding a way to come down with it.
00:35:16I think his body demeanor comes back to him running routes of just that forward lean
00:35:20and just the no panic.
00:35:22The DBs are always looking for eyes and indicators to know when that ball is coming.
00:35:25So he gives no indicators and then he always finds a way to come down with it.
00:35:29Hey, Puka, you had such a good year last year
00:35:31and the team came so close to the Super Bowl.
00:35:33Can you talk a little bit about your mindset coming into this season?
00:35:37I think I pay huge credit to our coaching staff for just how they come into the offseason
00:35:43and give us your three better, your three best, the things that you excelled at
00:35:46and we want to continue to build upon.
00:35:48And then the three things that have more room for improvement.
00:35:52There's always ways to improve.
00:35:53So coming back and staying grounded, I think in the run game I pride myself in the physicality.
00:35:59But there's a chance to finish the plays.
00:36:01I think, Big Rob, you know this more than anybody, that extra strain,
00:36:04that extra second of staying connected to the defender
00:36:06is how you get those explosive runs and two explosive touchdowns.
00:36:10So making sure I'm doing my part in the run game
00:36:12and then obviously to be on the same page as number nine.
00:36:14Being able to be out here, run routes and continue to build that continuity
00:36:18that we have has been super fun this offseason
00:36:20and he makes going out there to catch routes really fun.
00:36:23Puka turn around, watch what Ty Simpson just did with Brennan Presley against the Blitz.
00:36:32Are you kidding me?
00:36:38Eleven yards that don't even start to tell the story.
00:36:42Look at Ty, escape, escape, escape, wants to create.
00:36:46Was that a little side arm action we saw in Brennan Presley?
00:36:49Such a trustworthy receiver for any quarterback on the field, especially for young Ty Simpson.
00:36:54All right, Puka, we've got to go. Tell the fans how you're feeling,
00:36:57how confident you are that you'll be ready to go when it's done.
00:37:00Super excited for season around the corner, getting ready to move the body.
00:37:03You know it's always super exciting to play the guys in that red and gold,
00:37:07so it'll be fun to go over there in Australia and make sure we get the job done.
00:37:10All right, go raise that bar again.
00:37:12Thank you.
00:37:13Puka Nakua, Ty Simpson, Brennan Presley and the Rams back on the high side.
00:37:24Back to week one of the preseason. Is this a play we can overreact to, everyone?
00:37:28Absolutely. Absolutely.
00:37:31That's such a great job.
00:37:32We talked about it earlier on that keeper where he kept his eyes downfield.
00:37:35He decided to use his legs earlier.
00:37:38This time he keeps his eyes downfield, feels Brennan Presley screaming across the edge,
00:37:43delivers a nice catchable ball, touchdown Rams.
00:37:45I mean, it's just such good quarterback play right there, especially Phelan.
00:37:49I mean, they brought the house, Jordan.
00:37:50They brought the house.
00:37:52Chris O'Leary, the Chargers defensive coordinator, is running some funky, funky stuff
00:37:56in a preseason game, which you've got to respect.
00:37:59And Ty Simpson working off-platform there and creating.
00:38:02That is exactly what you want to see.
00:38:07Lamar Johnson on the return for the Chargers, trying to cut it all the way back across the field.
00:38:12Mike Balker still there to help make the tackle.
00:38:15And let's give Presley his due, because for the second summer in a row, he has really shined.
00:38:21Last year, in that comeback win against these Chargers, he made that acrobatic 40-yard contested catch
00:38:26to set up the game-winner.
00:38:27Back in his college days, he finished with 315 catches in Stillwater,
00:38:32most in Oklahoma State program history, top 15 in the history of college football.
00:38:37And all he's done is ball through two preseasons for the Rams.
00:38:42And one of the things I really, really love about watching Brennan Presley play
00:38:46is that he can also get involved in what the coaches call transportation schemes,
00:38:51meaning the sweeps, meaning the end arounds, meaning some of those fast exit motions
00:38:56that create space for the receivers and change gaps for the defenders.
00:39:00I love watching him go to work, and he's been a quarterback's best friend so far in the preseason.
00:39:04And with those transportation series, a lot of that is stop motion,
00:39:08and then all of a sudden you're inserting through the sea gap in the run game.
00:39:11And him not being the biggest guy around, he's still sticking his face in there,
00:39:16doing everything that a Rams wide receiver needs to do.
00:39:18And he's had just such an efficient day-to-day, five targets, five catches.
00:39:23I mean, he's doing everything.
00:39:25Rams back in front, Trey Lance, his second drive.
00:39:29End-around toss.
00:39:30Speaking of which...
00:39:31Darius Davis involved, as is to illustrate the concept that Rob and Jordan were just coaching us on.
00:39:38Alex Johnson gets the tackle for the Rams.
00:39:41Yeah, they must have hurt us.
00:39:43Yeah, Mike McDaniel, are you in our headsets right now?
00:39:45I mean, we got end-around.
00:39:48We got 6-1 defense.
00:39:49We got all-out zeroes.
00:39:51This is turning out to be a very exciting preseason number three.
00:39:58Plus, in honor of Mike McDaniel, I got my joggers pulled up.
00:40:03It's a little warm up here, but I'm going to go ahead and say it's for Mike.
00:40:07On the toss ride, it's Vidal.
00:40:11Sixth-round pick back in 2024.
00:40:13Put up pretty good numbers for the Chargers while filling in for injuries last year,
00:40:17most notably by the rookie, Marion Hampton.
00:40:23I think this is a really great matchup for the Rams because the Chargers are running on offense and defense.
00:40:30Some of the things that they actually will in the regular season,
00:40:33you have to have clean eyes if you're this defense.
00:40:35Mike McDaniel likes to move gaps.
00:40:37As you're seeing right now, he loves to change formations.
00:40:40He loves to change the math for defenders.
00:40:42You need to really, really be on your keys.
00:40:45Understand where your assignments change pre- and post-snap.
00:40:49This is why Trey Lance was a first-round pick.
00:40:51Third overall in 2021 by the San Francisco 49ers.
00:40:55We've seen him with the Cowboys and now once again with the Chargers.
00:41:03Great initial move there by Jackson Moy.
00:41:08I mean, just beat the hands clean of the guard, getting up through.
00:41:12Obviously, just as you said, J.B., Trey has some outstanding qualities in the athletic department,
00:41:17but really good move to get him off a spot.
00:41:21Chris Shula, Jimmy Lake there.
00:41:23Chris Beak, safeties coach, calling the defense tonight for Chris.
00:41:26Off the play fake with pressure on his doorstep.
00:41:29That's a confident strike.
00:41:30The 30-yard line, Ramsey incomplete, and the back judge agrees.
00:41:37Chris Beak is described by his colleagues as very stoic.
00:41:41Doesn't really change his facial expressions or the volume of his tone very much,
00:41:46but when he lets it rip, he really, really does, and the players really love him for it.
00:41:51And him getting the opportunity tonight to call this defense,
00:41:54I know they were really excited for him.
00:41:56I mean, I've been with Coach Beak for a number of years,
00:41:59and I didn't realize that he was going into his 28th season.
00:42:02I mean, that's unbelievable.
00:42:03He's been, you know, in it a long time.
00:42:05Exactly what, you know, we're saying up here.
00:42:07He is that type of glue guy who doesn't really say a whole bunch,
00:42:11but when he does speak, players listen.
00:42:14Especially because he still looks like a 28-year-old
00:42:16and moves around like it, too, at practice.
00:42:18Yeah, you're making up for your previous age comments there, J.B.
00:42:21Trying. Trying to dig myself out of the ditch.
00:42:24Eli Neal with a hit at the second level for the Rams,
00:42:27but it's a first down for the Chargers.
00:42:29And being capped off there by our guy,
00:42:31the human missile Tanner Angle, I mean,
00:42:33he is always flying around.
00:42:35He plays the game full speed all the time,
00:42:38sometimes in walkthroughs.
00:42:40But that's how he plays, and he's true to himself,
00:42:42so he's running around having a great time,
00:42:44and if that hit was flush, man.
00:42:47Coach Beak with the backward lid,
00:42:49living up to the scouting report.
00:42:51Love to see it.
00:42:52First down, fake the toss.
00:42:54There's Angle.
00:42:55Nearly got home, but rushed the throw.
00:42:58Forcing Lance to overshoot Davis.
00:43:00This is exactly what we're talking about up here.
00:43:03They're running toss.
00:43:05They're moving the formation and the play strength to be on one side,
00:43:08then the quarterback is flushing to the other side.
00:43:10They're faking the toss play and pulling back to throw.
00:43:14For this Rams defense and these backups here that are on the field,
00:43:17hoping to make an impact,
00:43:19it's really not going to be so much about the stat sheet
00:43:22as what coaches are watching your head and body do
00:43:24as you are looking for your keys here.
00:43:28Chargers lighting it up on defense.
00:43:29Chris Beak dials up.
00:43:30A little safety pressure.
00:43:31Gets there off, well, almost gets there off the edge.
00:43:34Makes the ball come out a little quicker.
00:43:38Johnston's rumbling below the 30.
00:43:43Alex Cook gets a tackle.
00:43:45He's got the highlight of the preseason on defense, doesn't he, Alex Cook?
00:43:49100 yards the other way from the goal line to pay dirt
00:43:52last week against the Saints.
00:43:55Called by Brenda Song.
00:43:56There you go.
00:43:57How fun was that?
00:43:58The time capsule for the Cook family.
00:44:01We signed during camp after a summer with United Football League,
00:44:05where he had a 30-yard pick six as well.
00:44:08It's been a good summer for Alex Cook.
00:44:12Drop back game.
00:44:13Lance gets antsy and gets tracked down from his right side.
00:44:18Give that one to Daryl Peterson III.
00:44:2122-year-old rookie out of Wisconsin.
00:44:24And the brother of NBA lottery pick, Darren Peterson.
00:44:29Yeah, that was nice pursuit by Daryl Peterson there to stop that play.
00:44:34Especially when you're playing a mobile quarterback like that,
00:44:36you have to be so gap sound on your rushes,
00:44:39where you can't just, can't see an opportunity and take it,
00:44:42because an athletic quarterback like Trey Lance is going to make you pay.
00:44:45So great job there.
00:44:47And starts in the pistol.
00:44:48Shifts Johnson to his left hip.
00:44:51Forked down.
00:44:51Rams defense trying to take over.
00:44:53Off the play fake.
00:44:54Here comes the pressure.
00:44:56Rams take over on downs.
00:44:58Peterson goes back to back.
00:45:01This time with a sack.
00:45:04Go Badgers.
00:45:10I'd love to see that on fourth down.
00:45:12Making splash plays.
00:45:13Just putting your name out there.
00:45:14Like you said earlier, that's just your resume for 31 other teams.
00:45:18But he's, you know, he's making a name for himself tonight.
00:45:31With a sack and a takeover on downs.
00:45:33To hand it back to Ty Simpson.
00:45:34Rob Jordan and JV with you to close out this preseason.
00:45:37We have to go back to what Ty Simpson just did to close out his most recent touchdown drive.
00:45:4313 of 15 tonight.
00:45:44But that scramble touchdown was dazzling.
00:45:48Yeah, what I really like seeing from Ty Simpson tonight is that in the first preseason game,
00:45:52we saw him work really well within the parameters of the offense, right?
00:45:56Saw a lot of roll outs and a lot of clean in and out of the huddle from him.
00:46:00Tonight we're seeing him be a gamer.
00:46:02I think, you know, you see Stetson Bennett do this in the previous game.
00:46:06And it's sort of ripping the band-aid off a little bit and really feeling the flow of the game.
00:46:10Yeah, it's those off schedule plays that can be so big.
00:46:14Because when the play breaks down and all of a sudden you can go ahead and create an explosive off
00:46:19of that.
00:46:20It's like, how do you really defend that?
00:46:21And I think Ty has done such a great job of keeping his eyes downfield.
00:46:25Trying to make the big play.
00:46:27Taking it when it's there.
00:46:28Making the play when it's available and not forcing anything.
00:46:31I thought he's done such a tremendous job.
00:46:34Dean Connors can scoot too in the backdrop over talking Ty Simpson.
00:46:38He finds another first down.
00:46:40Man, they got to be careful with Dean Connors here.
00:46:43A lot of teams are watching this tape.
00:46:51Dean out wide.
00:46:52A little empty set here.
00:46:58Simpson sets the laces.
00:47:00Going vertical.
00:47:02Maybe they'll throw on the back shoulder there.
00:47:04Looking for Tyler Scott.
00:47:05And it's incomplete with the coverage from Rodney Shelley.
00:47:08And time for another Coach Cam.
00:47:09Brought to you by Novartis, official partner of the Rams.
00:47:13Stay ahead of the game.
00:47:14Talk to your doctor about health screenings.
00:47:17Let's bring in Greg Williams in his third season with the Rams as the inside linebackers coach.
00:47:22And your timing's superb after a takeaway on downs for this Rams defense.
00:47:27How great has it been this summer to see a lot of the reserves fighting for jobs and spots on
00:47:31the practice squad
00:47:32really shine on the lights here at SoFi Stadium?
00:47:34It's been awesome, man.
00:47:36Because, you know, those guys give their all.
00:47:39I mean, the one thing we don't even have to coach is effort.
00:47:41You know what I mean?
00:47:42That's one thing.
00:47:43It's been great, man.
00:47:44These guys are fighting their tails off for a roster spot.
00:47:48But it's been good to see them all hustle around.
00:47:51Hey, Greg, I'm curious how gratifying it is and what the reaction from that linebackers room is
00:47:58when they see a young undrafted free agent, Wesley Bailey, do the landman punch out last week.
00:48:04Yeah.
00:48:05He's, I mean, that's been the same guy he's been all.
00:48:08He's been that way all camp.
00:48:09Very opportunistic.
00:48:11Always, always going after the ball.
00:48:13And we teach that.
00:48:14And everybody sees landman do it.
00:48:16Get out.
00:48:17Everybody sees landman, you know, punching it out because he punches out of practice, too, all the time.
00:48:22So to see Wesley get it out and see, when you see the excitement from just the guys on the
00:48:27sideline of the field,
00:48:28it's contagious.
00:48:29It is.
00:48:30It's crazy.
00:48:31Hey, Coach, Rob here.
00:48:32First off, I feel like it's my job to let everyone know that y'all's name are nicknames.
00:48:39You know what I mean?
00:48:40Like, you're G-Money.
00:48:41All right?
00:48:42When it first came up, I said, who we got from the interview?
00:48:44I said, who?
00:48:45And I was like, oh, wait, that's G-Money.
00:48:47All right.
00:48:47My bad.
00:48:48But talking about landman and, like, obviously you guys teach that little peanut punch, but can you talk about the
00:48:54impact of a Nate Landman, another undrafted free agent, for a guy like a Wesley Bailey and for, honestly, all
00:49:01the undrafted free agents out there?
00:49:03Yeah.
00:49:04The thing about it is, like I said, when you watch Landman in practice, it's part of the culture, but
00:49:10Landman lives it every day.
00:49:12I mean, we try to drill it.
00:49:13I would love to take credit for it, but let's be honest, man.
00:49:15That guy, I mean, he swears by it.
00:49:18He's got a pad on his glove.
00:49:19If you ever watch, ever look at his glove.
00:49:21He's got a pad right on the knuckles so he doesn't hurt, because he's always punching at the ball, like
00:49:26in practice.
00:49:27So he's got the ball on his mind all the time.
00:49:30So it's contagious when people see that he's doing it all the time.
00:49:33He kind of swears by it and lives by it.
00:49:35And that's when you see the production, when you start seeing guys get the ball out.
00:49:39It's kind of unreal to see how contagious it is.
00:49:41Man, I love hearing details like that.
00:49:44That is so cool.
00:49:45And speaking of details, the Chargers offense is throwing a lot of looks at your guys here, Greg.
00:49:51I'm kind of curious, what are you looking for and what kind of a great challenge is this?
00:49:56Seeing a lot of different types of stuff, formations, sweeps, motions, all of it, for your guys tonight.
00:50:02I mean, these dots are moving all over the place.
00:50:06I'm looking at this iPad and looking at the guys, and we're just flipping back and forth.
00:50:10I'm like, where did he go?
00:50:12Where did he go?
00:50:13There's motions.
00:50:14There's backfields.
00:50:15I mean, these guys are testing our rules in every possible way.
00:50:19But it's good for us.
00:50:20It's good for us.
00:50:21Just want to see if now can we take that and can we handle it just as far as, hey,
00:50:26stick to your rules.
00:50:27We'll adjust when we get to the sideline if there's something that needs to be adjusted.
00:50:30But it's good for our eye discipline, especially for the linebacker room,
00:50:33to understand where guys are going, how gaps move, and how gaps change
00:50:37when they try to add a guy one way or motion a guy back another way.
00:50:41So it's like I said, it's a challenge for your eye discipline, but it's good practice for us.
00:50:45G-Money, we're about to hit the two-minute warning here, so we'll let you go.
00:50:48But I can only imagine what your room is dreaming of,
00:50:50playing behind this defensive front coming up in 2026.
00:50:53Hope it's a great year for you and your group.
00:50:55Thank you very much.
00:50:55I can't wait.
00:50:57All right.
00:50:58Back from the two-minute warning after this with Ty Simpson and the Rams
00:51:01threatening to extend their 10-7 lead before the half.
00:51:10Light powered by Verizon 5G.
00:51:12It's been another productive night for Dean Connors.
00:51:15Seven carries for 35 yards and a 10-yard grab out of the block field as well as a receiver.
00:51:20I mean, JB, you said it.
00:51:21It's just productive, and that's exactly what you want from your young running back.
00:51:26Right there, we talked about it, the contact balance, being able to get through that first tackle.
00:51:30The first guy should never bring you down.
00:51:32The spin move, falling forward.
00:51:33He's done everything the right way, and Jordan, you just mentioned it.
00:51:36He's making it hard for 31 other teams, especially if the Rams want to try to keep him with an
00:51:41already stacked running backs room.
00:51:43And just as a reminder, players on the practice squad must be signed by other teams to the active roster
00:51:49should they want to poach them.
00:51:52So you're saying when they go through waivers this coming Sunday night to beat the Rams out for a chance
00:51:58to come back to their practice squad,
00:52:00they have to offer them a full-time 53-man job elsewhere in the league.
00:52:03Yeah, and I got to tell you, man, he's making the case for himself, and the Rams are going to
00:52:07take a long look at his entire preseason tape.
00:52:11The thing about Dean Connors is he can also stay on the field for the third down, and he's a
00:52:16threat as a receiver.
00:52:17That plus special teams, again, he's making this really tough for the coaching staff in the best way.
00:52:23Watters slicing through that left side for a first down here.
00:52:26He moves the sticks on third and one, and into Junior Colson.
00:52:30But the Rams are in the red zone again with a new set of downs and a minute to go
00:52:33in the first half.
00:52:34I mean, shoot.
00:52:35Jordan Watters doing a heck of a job, too, especially throughout these last two preseason games.
00:52:39Same thing.
00:52:40Like, the ability to fall forward as a back is such a big deal.
00:52:44One or two yards may not seem like a lot to everyone at home,
00:52:47but it makes all the difference in the world, especially when you're trying to call plays,
00:52:51whether it's third and six or it turns into be third and four.
00:52:54Tenth play of the drive.
00:52:56Yeah, Rob, would you call that a water's fall?
00:53:00Nice one.
00:53:04C.J. Daniels with that catch.
00:53:05I didn't want, you know, to shortchange your joke there, Jordan.
00:53:08I wanted the laugh track to run its course before I jumped in.
00:53:11Listen, if I didn't get one pun in there, I would feel, I would regret it forever.
00:53:15Thank you.
00:53:16Timeout on the field.
00:53:17Let's go down to the field.
00:53:18Here's Darren.
00:53:19Yeah, you know what?
00:53:20Ty Simpson believes that being a son of a coach puts him ahead of the eight ball.
00:53:24His father, Jason Simpson, is a longtime head football coach at the University of Tennessee, Martin,
00:53:29and played a huge role in Ty's development.
00:53:31Now Ty is giving back.
00:53:33He says that he talks to his dad and shares some of the concepts that he learns with the Rams,
00:53:37and basically he talks to Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, then gives it to his dad,
00:53:42and then his dad gives it to the players.
00:53:43He says it's like a food chain, but did joke and say that he hopes that Sean McVay doesn't get
00:53:47mad at him for sharing the information.
00:53:51Great stuff there, Darren.
00:53:52Who would have thought that UT Martin would give the Rams so much dresser win for those years?
00:53:56And now off the family tree, Ty Simpson, the first round pick.
00:54:01That's funny.
00:54:02Usually you're seeing Andy Reid taking plays from high school and bringing it up,
00:54:07and it seems like it's going the other way around where Ty's over there telling high schools what they're running.
00:54:14So as long as he's not giving away the full secret, I'm sure Sean will have no problem with that,
00:54:19just talking different concepts and things like that.
00:54:25One interesting connection just for tonight.
00:54:27You know, Ty was an eighth grader when he got his first scholarship offer,
00:54:30and it came from Michigan, and it came from Jim Harbaugh, who's now on the opposing sideline.
00:54:36Yeah, he left Jim dumbfounded with his most recent touchdown.
00:54:39Let's see if he can get another here before the break.
00:54:44Let's see what the Chargers have to dial up here.
00:54:46It's been something fun the rest of the time.
00:54:50Little pump.
00:54:51End zone.
00:54:52Too tall.
00:54:55Four down and five.
00:54:56Bachman the intended target.
00:54:58And the field goal unit will march on.
00:55:01Yeah, Ty's looking a little dejected there after that one.
00:55:03Had a good little pump fake on and out and up to Bachman,
00:55:06but just I think he wants that one back.
00:55:08Yeah, you could see him motioning to Nate Shieldhouse,
00:55:12sort of moving his arm in the sense that you could sort of read the body language there.
00:55:16He wanted to put a little more touch on that one.
00:55:22Joe Cardona will send it back.
00:55:25Ethan Evans has the holes.
00:55:26Harrison Mavis looking to close out the half with another right-footed boot.
00:55:30It's true.
00:55:31It's true.
00:55:32And the lead is 13-7.
00:55:35And right there, talking to Sean, seeing about, or just talking about the game, what he saw,
00:55:41what he was thinking.
00:55:42Because Sean, Sean is a listener first and foremost when he's talking about,
00:55:45because the players are out there playing.
00:55:47He's always said that.
00:55:48He wants to know what you're looking at, what you're seeing, and what your thought process was.
00:55:53And now he's going to tell you whether that thought process was wrong or right.
00:55:57And he, you know, but he's a great listener in the fact that he's really trying to understand how his
00:56:02players see the game.
00:56:04Because not everyone sees it like a Sean McVay.
00:56:06One of the things I know he really liked instantaneously about Matthew Stafford is the way they saw the game
00:56:11and spoke the game.
00:56:13Even without even looking at the tablet, oftentimes he and Matthew were aligned, Rob.
00:56:16Oh, yeah, absolutely.
00:56:17You know, half of their conversations are just kind of grunts and little, yeah, this and that.
00:56:22And they're speaking their own little language there because they're all looking at the game at such a high level
00:56:29where they can say sentences without really talking about full, complete football sentences.
00:56:34So, you know, as a right tackle, I'm just looking at them like, I don't know what the heck you
00:56:37guys just discussed,
00:56:38but it sounded it sounded pretty good to me.
00:56:43Touchback here, that little red zone sequence, the first time in this entire first half that Simpson went back to
00:56:47back with incompletions.
00:56:49Rob, you were telling us off the air when we were talking with G Money about Landman that you had
00:56:53an anecdote that you wanted to share.
00:56:54Yeah.
00:56:55So in the in the head equipment staff room, Brennan Berger, who runs that room as Greg was talking about.
00:57:02Oh, sorry, G Money. I just said Greg.
00:57:04G Money was talking about Landman has these special pads that he puts over his knuckles because he's putting his
00:57:09knuckles on the ball so many times where it hurts.
00:57:13And so they had him kind of design this little custom pad over his knuckle to where it's basically a
00:57:18boxing glove.
00:57:19And so Brennan Berger, every single one of Nate's punches are punch outs.
00:57:24He's got it up on his up on his wall.
00:57:29Up on his wall, kind of hung up under a picture of Landman punching it out against the Texans.
00:57:33So it's a cool little memento.
00:57:36And hopefully, you know, during this next season, he can go ahead and add to the total.
00:57:40That's DJ Uyunglele with the completion to Keandre Lambert-Smith.
00:57:46Thanks for finishing that story to give me time to rehearse the pronunciation.
00:57:49I was just about to say that was spot on.
00:57:52Lived through a lot of his college career at Clemson, Oregon State and Florida State.
00:57:57The Southern California native born in Riverside played at Bosco.
00:58:02Third quarterback we've seen from the Chargers tonight.
00:58:05Pressure up the middle.
00:58:07And another strike to the sideline.
00:58:09Tiptoeing out of bounds.
00:58:10Davis has a first down at the top of the red zone.
00:58:13And with 12 seconds left, a gain of 20 as Jackson Moy was in on the pressure.
00:58:18It's a great opportunity for this Rams defense and some of these depth players to really practice a late-half,
00:58:27end-of-half scenario like this.
00:58:29The Chargers are going to mix up, again, different looks, different things,
00:58:32try to get explosive plays down the field with the clock winding down the way it is.
00:58:36Especially this is the type of situation because they won the toss,
00:58:40they're getting the ball coming out at half where offenses call this a double dip.
00:58:43You can go score and then halftime get the ball back again.
00:58:46So the Chargers here are looking, obviously, to get a touchdown.
00:58:49But if they have to settle for a field goal, they'll settle for that.
00:58:53Incomplete on the in-breaker.
00:58:55Rob, you alluded to this earlier.
00:58:56And I think a lot of us would not have been surprised if McVeigh and Harbaugh
00:58:59tried to take the air out of this football
00:59:01and get to their roster decisions and their week one preparations.
00:59:04But it's been quite the opposite.
00:59:06It's been an entertaining first half and both quarterbacks putting it in the air.
00:59:10Oh, yeah, quite the opposite.
00:59:11I mean, like we've already alluded to.
00:59:13I mean, we got reverses.
00:59:14We got 6-1 defenses, blitzes coming left and right.
00:59:18You know, it's been a very entertaining game.
00:59:20Yeah, Rob's up here traumatized thinking about that 6-1 front that we're seeing down there
00:59:25that Chargers are throwing out, which is interesting because this defensive system
00:59:29actually prefers to play a lot of times with a light box.
00:59:31So they are doing some different things.
00:59:34They send a DB and Cam Lampkin gets home.
00:59:39Chris Beak dialing it up, sending the DBs, trying to get them into the party.
00:59:43He comes scot-free for the sack.
00:59:46A couple of pass breakups last week.
00:59:48Now Cam Lampkin has a preseason sack.
00:59:51Just winning the math on that, too.
00:59:53Just like a missile off the edge.
00:59:57Especially with a mobile quarterback, that takes a lot of confidence to run in there full speed
01:00:01because if he spins out and you're on the low side, he's gone.
01:00:05So that was a lot of confidence right there by Lampkin.
01:00:08And that's Chris Beak who just was celebrating with him, calling the game for the defense tonight.
01:00:13That's such a cool thing when they go to the sideline and you see them
01:00:16and everyone's congratulating them.
01:00:17Everyone's involved in the game right there.
01:00:19You see Cam Curl throwing it up.
01:00:21You know, you got a little dance going on.
01:00:22Like, guys are excited for other people's success.
01:00:26Cameron Dicker in the final four seconds of the first half.
01:00:29Looking to get that field goal back.
01:00:31He's been wobbly this preseason and he missed another.
01:00:36The Lampkin sack does the trick and saves the Rams three points.
01:00:43That is such a momentum saver for the Rams.
01:00:47Don't get the double dip.
01:00:48You go to halftime where you are.
01:00:50Great job there.
01:00:52Lots to look forward to in our second half.
01:00:54Matthew Caldwell will get his first professional taste.
01:00:57And Les Snead will join us in the second half of the preseason finale here at SOFA.
01:01:10This is nice weather compared to Indiana.
01:01:13It's probably like nine degrees right now.
01:01:16What a way to capitalize that drive.
01:01:19I mean, if that's it for him tonight, and that's his first preseason, he throws 78% of his passes
01:01:26for completions.
01:01:2647 of 60 for 382.
01:01:29Three touchdowns, no giveaways.
01:01:32Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
01:01:33Welcome to the NFL and the Los Angeles Rams.
01:01:3613th overall selection, Ty Simpson.
01:01:38Now let's go down to the field and get our halftime interview.
01:01:41Here's Darren with a man who was calling the plays in that first half.
01:01:46All right, Coach.
01:01:47What did you like out of what Ty Simpson did getting to start today and how he handled the offense
01:01:51in the first half?
01:01:52Yeah, you know what?
01:01:52He did a great job, I think, within the drives just competing through the downs.
01:01:57A lot of times his first read wasn't necessarily there.
01:02:00And did a great job progressing on, making plays, making plays with his feet.
01:02:03So you love to see that from him.
01:02:05I thought that play down in the red zone was as, you know, just competitive a play.
01:02:08They brought zero pressure.
01:02:09He got out of the pocket.
01:02:10Went and made a play.
01:02:11A nice throw.
01:02:12And that's what you love to see.
01:02:13He's made a ton of plays like that with his feet all throughout camp.
01:02:15It's good to see it here on the field.
01:02:16Now this is the second half, your last half to really prepare before you play real games.
01:02:21What would you like to see out of your offense?
01:02:22Yeah, I think you still want the same consistency.
01:02:24The pre-snap operation's got to be clean.
01:02:26It was a good job in the first half.
01:02:28Got to continue attacking that win.
01:02:29I think you just want to see guys go and make plays.
01:02:31You've seen that from the backfield.
01:02:33You've seen that from those guys at receiver.
01:02:34And so I think the more those guys get opportunities, the more they have made plays.
01:02:37So put a lot of trust in those guys to go do their thing.
01:02:39Appreciate your time, Coach.
01:02:40Appreciate you guys.
01:02:42All right, Coach's Insight brought to you by your Southern California Chevy dealers.
01:02:46Visit your Southern California Chevy dealers.
01:02:48A couple of big clues by first-year offensive coordinator Nate Schielhaus, also the play caller tonight for Ty Simpson.
01:02:55Getting through his progressions and about as competitive a play as he's seen.
01:03:00All of these things, they are comfortable with Ty working out of structure and also within the framework of the
01:03:06offense.
01:03:06That is a step in his development that was important to see tonight.
01:03:09And I think the biggest stat that, JB, you said there was no giveaways.
01:03:14I mean, that is just such an important part of Sean's offense.
01:03:17And, well, obviously Nate's called –
