00:00:00Продолжение следует...
00:00:30He won't play tonight, but the spotlight is on that man, Deshaun Watson, who will start on opening day of
00:00:37the regular season two weeks from Sunday.
00:00:39Al Michaels, Kirk Herbstreit, Kayleigh Hart selling back for year five of Thursday night football.
00:00:45Most of the preseason games, week three, starters will have the night off.
00:00:49They will hear.
00:00:49We'll see a lot of the subs, but a lot of stories abound, including the big one here in Cleveland.
00:00:54Deshaun Watson was named as the starter of the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
00:01:00The reaction in this town, slightly less than thrilling, you might say.
00:01:03And everybody, including your great-grandmother, has weighed in.
00:01:07Your turn now.
00:01:08Yeah, I've had some time to think about this.
00:01:10I think I was as surprised as anybody.
00:01:12There was talk about him maybe being removed from the roster.
00:01:1548 hours later, he's the starting quarterback.
00:01:17I think the big thing that Todd Monk had settled on is the experience.
00:01:2172 career stars.
00:01:21Our gentleman control the operation of the offense.
00:01:24He understands what he wants to do.
00:01:25And let's face it, they're on the road the first couple games.
00:01:28Just play smart football.
00:01:29It's a new head coach, a new offensive system, and a lot of big playability around him.
00:01:34Go out there and just play.
00:01:35Turn it loose.
00:01:36Meanwhile, the Patriots last year shocked everybody.
00:01:38Went from four wins to 14.
00:01:40Got to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks.
00:01:43Added a lot of big-name guys in the offseason.
00:01:46So your take on this team right now?
00:01:47I think on paper, New England's a better team.
00:01:49You know, the tough thing that they have to think about is the schedule gets a lot tougher.
00:01:53But the good news is this offense and their quarterback, who's a superstar,
00:01:57second year with Josh McDaniel's system, the whole offense.
00:02:00They bring in A.J. Brown, Dobbs, so many big pieces to this offense.
00:02:05And their defense is always going to be a top five, top seven type of defense.
00:02:08So better team, but they've got to look out for the injuries with the lack of depth.
00:02:13And then that schedule is much tougher.
00:02:15Time to ring in Kaylee Hartung.
00:02:17Down at the field we go.
00:02:18Kaylee.
00:02:18Hey there, Al.
00:02:19In Todd Munkin's first major decision, as the Browns head coach,
00:02:22he is betting big on Deshaun Watson.
00:02:25And Munkin told us he believes it's Watson's NFL experience
00:02:28that gives the Browns the best chance to win come week one.
00:02:31Now, was the way that the weekend unfolded ideal?
00:02:34No.
00:02:34But Munkin was adamant that he wouldn't let outside noise influence this decision.
00:02:38He considered the quarterback's full body of work,
00:02:40and he felt momentum from the team for Watson.
00:02:43Now he says the Browns will exhaust every opportunity for Watson
00:02:46to show that he can still play at a high level.
00:02:48And after what Munkin characterized as a great practice from Watson Tuesday,
00:02:52he told us Watson has it in him, and we are going to get it out of him.
00:02:56Al.
00:02:57All right, Kaylee, so here are the coaches.
00:03:00Mike Grable is in his second season as the head coach.
00:03:03He is behind that Browns helmet.
00:03:05Todd Munkin, at the age of 60,
00:03:07finally gets his first head coaching opportunity,
00:03:09was with John Harbaugh over the last three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
00:03:15Cleveland won the toss.
00:03:18Browns will receive.
00:03:20A pick taken at the five.
00:03:22Malachi Corley.
00:03:23Now past the 30, stopped at the 34-yard line.
00:03:28So the Browns, of course, Watson won't play tonight,
00:03:31but we will see Dylan Gabriel, and we will see Taylin Green a little bit later.
00:03:36And we will see Seymour Sanders, who will be the backup to watch him when the season begins.
00:03:40Todd Munkin telling us, they spent so much attention on Sanders and Deshaun Watson in that competition,
00:03:47that Gabriel and Taylin Green, the rookie out of Arkansas, kind of been on the back burner.
00:03:51So tonight is their night.
00:03:53They'll both get an opportunity to show what they can do.
00:03:55Marty!
00:03:56Marty's on!
00:03:58Sanders is the running back that is Raheem Sanders.
00:04:03Gabriel was one in five and six starts last year.
00:04:06And the lefty throws, caught along the sideline.
00:04:08And the opening play for the Browns is a first down.
00:04:17Now, not surprising that Todd Munkin gives his quarterback, Dylan Gabriel,
00:04:23a very easy throw and something that he's comfortable with.
00:04:26And I think that's really the future of Gabriel is moving him around.
00:04:30He's undersized at 5'11".
00:04:32He can throw from the pocket, but a nice easy throw there,
00:04:35get the defense to commit to the run and go the other way with that little bootleg naked action.
00:04:41Start with a gain of 12 from the 45-yard line on first down.
00:04:46Hands the ball off, looking for a gap that finds none.
00:04:50Stop is Raheem Sanders, second-year guy out of South Carolina.
00:04:55Stopped by Namdi.
00:04:58Yes, sir.
00:05:01Yes, sir.
00:05:02Yes, sir.
00:05:02I'm telling you, man.
00:05:04Why not?
00:05:05Exactly.
00:05:05You know, it's preseason for us, too, so bear with us.
00:05:09Bill and Gabriel trying to put on a big night tonight to show these coaches with cut dates
00:05:15showing up here in about a week or so what he's capable of doing in this offense.
00:05:20Again, to the outside, too high this time.
00:05:22That's incomplete intended for Luke Floreas, who got a touchdown pass last week.
00:05:27Zach Kerr, who did such a good job last year for the Patriots.
00:05:30Remember, Terrell Williams was their defensive coordinator, had some health concerns.
00:05:34Zach Kerr, who was a linebacker coach, took over and never really called it, had been around with Mike Vrabel,
00:05:39so knew the defense inside.
00:05:41Now, I mean, broke in a bunch of new faces.
00:05:43There were a lot of guys that had only been there for a year,
00:05:46and I think that defense really came around to become a real strength of his team.
00:05:50And Zach Kerr, I don't know if he gets enough credit for the job he did in 25.
00:05:54Well, first year, D.C. is able to take his team to the Super Bowl.
00:05:59That looks pretty good on a resume.
00:06:01Third down and nine.
00:06:02Going deep this time and too deep and incomplete.
00:06:05Coverage is good.
00:06:06Crowd wants a flag, and they get one.
00:06:10Marvin Dean was the intended receiver.
00:06:15Pass interference.
00:06:16Number 28, defense.
00:06:18The ball will be placed at the spot of the foul.
00:06:20Automatic.
00:06:21First down.
00:06:22Now, a little stutter and go, and Vildner actually at the stutter,
00:06:26and then he strikes to go by him, and as he goes by him,
00:06:29that's where the arm will come up and grab a hold of the receiver's arm,
00:06:32and an easy call and a break for the Browns on third and nine.
00:06:37Pick up that first down.
00:06:43So a minute and a half into the game.
00:06:45They're at the 26-yard line.
00:06:4728-yard penalty.
00:06:50To the ground again, cutting to the left, trying to find that hole,
00:06:54trying to get around the corner, and able to pick up eight yards.
00:06:57Raheem Sanders, nickname Rocket.
00:07:01Really good job in the interior by Zach Zenner,
00:07:05the backup guard out of Michigan in his third year.
00:07:08Coach is telling us he had a good game last week against Buffalo.
00:07:12When you're fighting for every opportunity,
00:07:14at the time he did a nice job of sustaining his block,
00:07:17which actually freed up Sanders to be able to cut that to the back side
00:07:20and pick up some good yards.
00:07:23Second down and three.
00:07:29Needing three, getting four.
00:07:31Sanders again, and a first down.
00:07:34And just for people that aren't familiar with Dylan Gabriel,
00:07:36he's a guy that, you know, in the college game,
00:07:38they bounce around from school to school to school.
00:07:40He was one of the first guys to do that.
00:07:41He started at UCF as a starter,
00:07:43and then he went to Oklahoma for a year, started there,
00:07:46then he went out to Oregon, out in Eugene, Oregon,
00:07:49and started out there.
00:07:5063 career starts in college.
00:07:54Most of any quarterback in FBS history.
00:07:56So very, very experienced in the college game.
00:07:59And he told us this week,
00:08:00unchartered territory to be not playing and sitting back watching.
00:08:04Played his high school ball in Hawaii.
00:08:07To the outside now.
00:08:09Huge hole.
00:08:10And taking the ball down to the six-yard line is Sanders.
00:08:13So the workhorse on this drive is for a carry for 21 yards.
00:08:17Now K.J. Britt makes the stop.
00:08:19Watch the right tackle, Leveston here.
00:08:21He does a good job inside movement here.
00:08:23A guy comes from his outside to the inside.
00:08:25Just kind of seals him, walls him off,
00:08:27and in short yardage, very easy for Sanders.
00:08:30Once again, to feel that space to the backside.
00:08:33And when he gets north and south with his size, 230-pounder,
00:08:37he's tough to bring down.
00:08:38Good drive here to start off with the Browns.
00:08:40First down, goal.
00:08:41Off the fake.
00:08:42Comes back this way.
00:08:44Caught.
00:08:44And taking it to the end zone for the touchdown.
00:08:48LeCourier.
00:08:49Second week in a row, he has found the end zone.
00:08:53Touchdown, Browns.
00:08:54Now let's see if he keeps this football.
00:08:55That last touchdown, Tyler Wallace had to save him,
00:08:58and he got him the football.
00:09:00This was a young man that grew up here in northeast Ohio,
00:09:03went to Mentor High School, played college ball at Kent State.
00:09:07And here he is fighting to get to that pylon, get the ball up and over to get into the
00:09:11end zone.
00:09:13Let's see if he keeps his feet in bounds.
00:09:14So far, so good, good, good job.
00:09:20Like you said, two touchdowns in two weeks.
00:09:23Andre Schmidt is the kicker to the extra point.
00:09:29Three and a half minutes into the game in Cleveland tonight.
00:09:33Kick is up and good.
00:09:34And the Browns take the early lead.
00:09:387-0.
00:09:40Preseason Thursday night football from Cleveland.
00:09:55We're in Cleveland, and in a couple of weeks, we will be in Buffalo,
00:10:00the new Highmark Stadium.
00:10:01Opening up, it'll be the first regular season game.
00:10:04We've got Detroit and Buffalo.
00:10:06You've got Goff and Allen.
00:10:08What a night that will be.
00:10:09Coverage will begin at 6.30 p.m.
00:10:12Look back to the stadium.
00:10:15That's the old stadium going down.
00:10:17Look out below.
00:10:18New stadium going up back in 2023.
00:10:22Look at what it will look like when we get in there.
00:10:27What a beautiful shot that is.
00:10:29The Buffalo Bills with their new playpen.
00:10:32In fact, we are now in Cleveland.
00:10:34That is Lake Erie.
00:10:35We think it is still called Lake Erie on the right.
00:10:39We're not quite sure at this point.
00:10:40Yeah.
00:10:41But we'll be by Lake, something like Ontario or whatever is going to be called by the time we get
00:10:46to Buffalo.
00:10:47Anyway, you know what I'm talking about, some of you do.
00:10:50Some of us do.
00:10:50Yeah, right.
00:10:52Read the news.
00:10:54Hassan Hastings from the five-yard line.
00:10:57They'll bring the ball back out to the 25-yard line.
00:11:00And that's where the reigning AFC champions set up show.
00:11:05Tommy DeVito, well-known to Giants fans, he made a couple of starts a couple of years ago, a few
00:11:13starts, and he was the bell of the ball for about half an hour.
00:11:17Yeah.
00:11:18He had his moments.
00:11:19He's now the backup.
00:11:20They got him last year off waivers.
00:11:23Did not see any action, though, during the regular season.
00:11:26The backup to Drake May from the 24.
00:11:31Running back, looking for room.
00:11:33Then it was Morrison.
00:11:35Played his college ball at UC Davis, gained a three.
00:11:38I think the difference for DeVito this year is he was picked up by New England after camp.
00:11:44Talking to Josh McDaniels last night, he said, you know, the big thing is working with Tommy now.
00:11:49We had him throughout OTAs, throughout camp.
00:11:52He's really getting more comfortable or more familiar with the offense.
00:11:55I think the maturity has really shown.
00:11:57He had eight starts in New York, but I think he's a different guy as a backup now here in
00:12:01New England.
00:12:02We've seen a lot of him in preseason.
00:12:04He probably will play only one series tonight.
00:12:06He'll take off here and runs it out to the 31-yard line.
00:12:12It's not Josh McDaniels going to plays tonight.
00:12:14It's Ashton Grant.
00:12:15Ashton Grant gets this opportunity coming back to Cleveland, kind of a homecoming.
00:12:19So it was a nice reward by Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels giving him a chance.
00:12:24It's such a good thing.
00:12:25I was actually talking on the field before the game started with Zach Kern.
00:12:29He said, you know, before I became a coordinator last year, I had an opportunity in these preseason games.
00:12:34We see it all over the league.
00:12:35It gives these guys reps, and then eventually they become a coordinator, and they got some experience.
00:12:42Pass is thrown and caught at the 41-yard line.
00:12:45And that is a first down.
00:12:47Kyle Williams in his second year.
00:12:50And Washington State was a third-round pick last year between the 10th first down.
00:12:54Al, this is what we're talking about with Tommy DeVito.
00:12:56Watch the three receivers to the right.
00:12:58It opens up, and look at one hitch, ball out.
00:13:01That ball is out well before his receivers coming out of his break.
00:13:06And that's what I'm talking about.
00:13:07I think there's more experience, more confidence, and understanding where to go with the ball.
00:13:11It's allowing them to play much more faster and on time.
00:13:22On a draw, and a pickup of about two-and-a-half by Larrison, second down.
00:13:30You know, whether you're playing starters or you're playing your backups,
00:13:33one thing Mike Vrabel made very clear to us, that he wants his team to find an identity.
00:13:40He said, last year was last year.
00:13:42And I don't care if we're playing second, third, fourth-string guys,
00:13:45guys that are going to make the team, won't make the team.
00:13:47There's an expectation of controlling the line of scrimmage,
00:13:50making good decisions, and playing smart football.
00:13:54Second and seven.
00:13:56Play action.
00:13:58Everybody covered.
00:13:59He can run.
00:14:00He proves it right there again to the 44-yard line of Cleveland he goes.
00:14:06Set by Masqueruch, Miss Arnold.
00:14:08Tommy, when he talked with us on the Zoom,
00:14:10the only time he really had a huge smile was when he said,
00:14:13you know, guys, last week when I got out there and scrambled,
00:14:16they had me at 19 miles an hour.
00:14:18He said, that's my personal best I've ever had in a game.
00:14:20And that time, again, going back to that same point,
00:14:23instead of waiting on that, he aborts, gets out,
00:14:26and gets out that back door for another first down when using those legs.
00:14:55And again, for Tommy DeVito, who's only not going to be playing much tonight,
00:14:58that's what you've seen throughout camp when he's gotten his opportunities.
00:15:02And how great is it if you're a Patriots fan?
00:15:04I know there's a lot of talk about A.J. Brown and Pop Douglas and Dobbs,
00:15:07but Kyle Williams, who flashed at times last year as a rookie,
00:15:11has had a great camp, and once again, at the line of scrimmage,
00:15:14is able to create some space.
00:15:15And look at that perfectly thrown football over his shoulder for an easy touchdown.
00:15:19Another reason, they were able to trade Keyshawn Booty to Houston earlier this week.
00:15:25A lot of depth amongst that receiving core.
00:15:28Borragalas' kick is good.
00:15:30And with 8.20 to go in the opening frame here in Cleveland.
00:15:34How about our guy Ashton Grant?
00:15:36Ball plays.
00:15:37Not bad.
00:15:37Pretty good start.
00:15:38Perfect.
00:15:39Time to retire.
00:15:44Right down the street is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here in Cleveland.
00:15:50And so many tributes today.
00:15:52There were the notes left for Donnie Parton at the Hall of Fame today.
00:16:02What song do you think of of hers first?
00:16:05I mean, 9 to 5?
00:16:069 to 5.
00:16:07Jolene.
00:16:08Jolene, of course, yep.
00:16:09And I'll tell you, living in Nashville since 2011, I mean,
00:16:12she is all over the country, all over the world being remembered,
00:16:16but especially people driving to a home in Brentwood, Tennessee,
00:16:20just south of the city and paying their respects.
00:16:23A singular performer, no question.
00:16:26Voice of an angel.
00:16:30Corley comes back and is stuck with the 26-yard line.
00:16:34So each team with a touchdown drive on its first possession.
00:16:39Well, Dylan Gabriel, like we saw from Tommy DeVito, with a great start.
00:16:45Like I mentioned, the experience of 63 career starts the most by any quarterback in FBS history.
00:16:51Actually, in 24, he was third in the Heisman voting.
00:16:55He was in New York.
00:16:56So he's very talented.
00:16:59I think for him, when we were talking to him this week,
00:17:01I think it's just a matter of give me an opportunity to show what I can do in Todd Monken's
00:17:04offense.
00:17:05And he's done that in that opening drive.
00:17:07Great fake.
00:17:08Comes fake.
00:17:09Throws.
00:17:09Caught.
00:17:10Big game here.
00:17:11In the 46-yard line.
00:17:16I tell you, Todd Monken, this is what you want to see.
00:17:19It's one thing to roll him out at 5'11", but he starts on his right,
00:17:24and then he works through the progressions, and he sits in the pocket comfortably.
00:17:27No panicking.
00:17:28You can see, wait for him to clear the linebacker, and then he makes that throw.
00:17:32And that's what everybody wants to see with Dylan Gabriel.
00:17:34Can he play from the pocket and see over the line to be able to make a throw?
00:17:38Man, that was a great example of doing that there.
00:17:40With a grab by Marbidane out of South Carolina.
00:17:44To the outside.
00:17:46Sweep.
00:17:47And about a 6-yard pick up here.
00:17:49Using Larbidane about half the plays on the second drive.
00:17:55And the first as well, obviously.
00:17:57I've known Todd Monken for a long time as an assistant coach in the college game.
00:18:01He's obviously been up to the NFL, back to college.
00:18:04Was at Georgia when a couple national championships with Kirby Smart.
00:18:07Came to Baltimore, worked with Lamar Jackson.
00:18:11Really known as a kind of like a mad scientist when it comes to offensive football.
00:18:16And really works hard to be able to give his quarterback an advantage.
00:18:19We're seeing that tonight, even in a preseason game.
00:18:24Lamar Jackson for the last three years.
00:18:26Through the middle.
00:18:28Sanders.
00:18:30So, Kevin Stefanski got fired after six years here.
00:18:33Winds up, of course, with the Atlanta Falcons.
00:18:36Now, you had Monken with John Harbaugh in Baltimore.
00:18:42And then John gets let go.
00:18:44Winds up with the Giants.
00:18:46And Todd had to hang around a little while.
00:18:48He was being interviewed by Cleveland.
00:18:50But it was pretty clear that had he not gotten this job, he would have been the offensive coordinator with
00:18:55the Giants.
00:18:55Yeah, think about that.
00:18:56And how about John Harbaugh kind of waiting, holding that spot just to kind of see how the interview went.
00:19:01And then finally he gets the green light.
00:19:03He gets the job here in Cleveland.
00:19:06Running back now is Booth.
00:19:09But this is Gabriel keeping it.
00:19:11And Gabriel has him on the move again.
00:19:14And again, with Gabriel, you're not going to ask him to do this all the time.
00:19:18This is Zone Reed.
00:19:19He's reading the in man on the line of scrimmage, which is the rookie, Akis.
00:19:23Right there, he collapses down in the back.
00:19:25And a very good job of feeling comfortable.
00:19:27That's going back to his college days.
00:19:29Little Zone Reed.
00:19:30You sprinkle this in from time to time.
00:19:32You saw 50 collapse down.
00:19:33Pull it.
00:19:34Pick up positive yards.
00:19:35And again, very much in control for a guy that's not had a lot of reps.
00:19:40Not just in the field, but even in practice.
00:19:44Play action.
00:19:45Steps to his left.
00:19:46Fires.
00:19:47Right on the money again.
00:19:50This time it's Ben Patterson.
00:19:52Rookie out of Texas Permian.
00:19:546'5", 220.
00:19:56Makes the grab.
00:19:57This is what he did quite a bit when he was in college.
00:20:00Just playing in rhythm.
00:20:01See the pressure.
00:20:02He felt it.
00:20:03Stepped a bit to his right.
00:20:04Again, playing from the pocket.
00:20:06And another very accurate throw.
00:20:09Right on the money for a first down.
00:20:14Sixth play of the drive.
00:20:16We've got 56 yards to this point.
00:20:20Yep.
00:20:21One 80.
00:20:22Lovand in motion.
00:20:24Sets up on the right.
00:20:25Hand up.
00:20:27Nice little move to the left in a four-yard pickup with Sanders.
00:20:30He's now carried the ball six times already for 29 yards.
00:20:34I know people are watching and saying, you know, it's a preseason game.
00:20:38We don't know a lot of the players on the field.
00:20:40But for a guy like Dylan Gabriel, who, again, hasn't had a ton of reps,
00:20:45this is a massive opportunity not just to prove himself at Cleveland
00:20:49but to put tape out there for the rest of the league to watch.
00:20:52And I'm just blown away by the command of this offense.
00:20:56He's been getting nothing but mental reps the entire camp.
00:20:59Comes out tonight, these first two series,
00:21:01it looks like he's been playing the entire preseason.
00:21:03You just saw Shaduor and Watson on the sideline.
00:21:06That's right on the money.
00:21:08And to the end zone for a touchdown.
00:21:12Luke Floriade does it again.
00:21:14Three and two weeks.
00:21:16He's going to have more footballs in his trophy case.
00:21:19He's going to know what to do with.
00:21:21That's his third football in two weeks.
00:21:23He's going to be able to take back to Mentor,
00:21:25where he grew up right here in Northeast Ohio.
00:21:28He'd like a few more in September, October, November, and December.
00:21:31Yeah, absolutely.
00:21:32We get August.
00:21:33These guys are fighting for an opportunity to get on this roster.
00:21:37And, you know, you get down to that fifth, sixth receiver,
00:21:39who's going to make it, who's not.
00:21:41There are going to be some tough decisions to make for Todd Monk and his staff.
00:21:44But, again, I go back to the command of Dylan Gabriel.
00:21:47He's five of six, and he's opening a couple drives.
00:21:50Command of the offense, 72 yards, and two passing touchdowns.
00:21:54Andre Schmidt for the point after.
00:21:58All offense, all the time.
00:22:00Here in Cleveland tonight for 17.
00:22:03Remaining in the first, it's 14-7.
00:22:05Home team.
00:22:13That justice is served.
00:22:15And we're going to send stars as Neely, September 16th, only on Prime Video.
00:22:39Clear skies, upper 70s right now, 76 degrees in Cleveland.
00:22:45Browns opening up in Jacksonville, and he's in Watson and James joining them up.
00:22:51You're on fire!
00:22:52You're on fire out there!
00:22:53Yeah.
00:22:54Just don't take my job.
00:22:57The three-yard line to Michael Hastie.
00:23:00He's been around six years in the league.
00:23:02He's stopped up at the 29-yard line.
00:23:06So now we're going to see.
00:23:12Tommy DeVito was supposed to play, they said one series, but they want to look at a little bit more
00:23:18of him.
00:23:20We're going to get Baron Morton a seventh-round draft pick at a Texas Tech, perhaps sooner than later.
00:23:29In fact, we thought we'd see him on this series.
00:23:32They said the second series, but they want Tommy to have one more spin at it.
00:23:37And stopped over a one-yard game.
00:23:39It's not a Husky.
00:23:42An offense attack.
00:23:44It's their first-round draft pick out of Utah.
00:23:47The rookie 6'6", 313-pound, 21-year-old Caleb Lohu.
00:23:52He's been bouncing around these first few games because of the concerns of depth with some injuries,
00:23:57both on the left and the right side.
00:23:59You know, he played right tackle in college.
00:24:02Good look there at Drake May.
00:24:04Will Campbell, the left tackle.
00:24:08You know, all the starters with the night off.
00:24:11Pass out here.
00:24:12It's incomplete.
00:24:14Then for Larrison.
00:24:15Both coaches agreed that they would sit the starters tonight.
00:24:19That's the case over most of the league, except for, like, Vegas, where Mendoza's going to play tonight.
00:24:23Yeah, I think that's become a trend, obviously, throughout the league.
00:24:28And I think because of that, me personally, I think when you watch September football,
00:24:33I think it almost at times feels like it's a continuation of camp.
00:24:37You know, you see some sloppy football because you don't see a lot of tackling.
00:24:40A lot of these starters don't get a chance to, other than the joint practices, to get a lot of
00:24:44good looks.
00:24:45But that's kind of the trend we've seen quite a bit across the league.
00:24:50Deep drop.
00:24:52Regent, third and nine, and it's dropped out here by Maris Uso in front for the first time.
00:24:58And we mentioned Mendoza.
00:24:59They're playing tonight.
00:25:00He did not start.
00:25:02Cousins got to start.
00:25:04To be determined who starts on opening day.
00:25:06But he's talking about very few starters working tonight anywhere.
00:25:10Yep.
00:25:10And here's a good look again at the rookie, Lomu, holding up there against Aiden Huntington.
00:25:14You know, one area that rookies, a lot of times, they, you know, whether it's games up in front of
00:25:20them,
00:25:20affecting their eyes, or just sometimes just pure power, a bull rush from an NFL defensive end.
00:25:26Time he held up just long enough.
00:25:29So this is Matt Hawke, who they just picked up to punt.
00:25:32And he's in midseason form.
00:25:35Down to the 22-yard line.
00:25:37And bringing it back to the 27-yard line is Larvidad.
00:25:42So 3-14 remaining.
00:25:46Had a thunder and lightning last night here in Cleveland, not tonight.
00:25:53Welcome back to Cleveland, where the man who finished second in MVP voting last year is with me now, Drake
00:25:58May.
00:25:59How different does it feel preparing for your third season in the NFL when you now know everyone in the
00:26:04AFC is coming for you?
00:26:06Yeah, I think, you know, first off, it flies by.
00:26:07Yeah, we're back to it.
00:26:09And, you know, we had a great camp, and we know we've got a little target on our back, but
00:26:12we've got to put in the work.
00:26:13And we've got to prove that last year wasn't just a, you know, a thing that we felt like was
00:26:17a one-hit wonder.
00:26:18So we've got to get back to work, and we've got a tough, you know, tough challenge to start, so
00:26:22we're looking forward to it.
00:26:23Yeah, there you were, 23 years old, playing in the Super Bowl.
00:26:26What did you learn through that whole experience that you couldn't understand until you actually played on that stage?
00:26:32I think it's a long process.
00:26:33You know, it's a two-week period.
00:26:34You know, a lot of people talk it up.
00:26:36I think...
00:26:40Yeah, I think it just means more.
00:26:43It means a lot to get there, but it means more to finish it off the right way.
00:26:46I think that's the biggest thing you learn.
00:26:47You know, what an experience it was.
00:26:49We didn't finish off the right way, but, you know, it means more when you finish it the right way.
00:26:52And that's kind of the bittersweet ending of last season.
00:26:55You know, what a ride we had, but we didn't finish it the right way, and that's what we're looking
00:26:58forward to do.
00:26:58A big play by Cleveland's offense there, but it was your offense that had one of the biggest headlines of
00:27:04the offseason
00:27:04with that trade for A.J. Brown coming into town.
00:27:08To have him, how does that impact the way you play the game?
00:27:12I mean, obviously a great player.
00:27:13You know, it's going to be fun to play with him.
00:27:15What a chance for me to play with a player like him, and I think we've had a lot of
00:27:19great additions to the offense.
00:27:20And I think we're looking forward to getting out there and getting some live bullets and live action.
00:27:24But, you know, I grew up a fan of his, and we played the same offense in college, so we
00:27:27got to laugh a little bit about that.
00:27:28But, you know, we've got some great pieces, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it fits together.
00:27:32Are you willing to throw a riskier ball when you know he's on the other end of that?
00:27:36I mean, guys like A.J., they come up with it more times than not.
00:27:39So, you know, he's made a lot of plays in his career and, you know, scored a lot of touchdowns.
00:27:43So I got a good, you know, good connection with him building through training camp and looking forward to seeing
00:27:48what our guys, you know, all our skill group does.
00:27:50I feel like we've got a great group of doing.
00:27:51Now, your defense made life tough for everybody you played last season.
00:27:55What have you observed in terms of how they've elevated?
00:27:58They make it tough for us in practice.
00:28:00That's the biggest thing.
00:28:00You know, they're good up front.
00:28:01They're good in the secondary.
00:28:02And, you know, I think the biggest thing with them, they play together.
00:28:05They have great players at all three levels.
00:28:07So it's fun to watch our defense.
00:28:09You know, I kind of sit over here and look on the iPad a little bit.
00:28:12But it's fun to watch our defense, especially at home with our crowd going.
00:28:14It's fun to watch.
00:28:16Well, hey, Drake, appreciate you joining me.
00:28:18Happy early birthday to you a couple days away and a happy birthday to A.J. Brown's wife, Kelsey.
00:28:24You guys have the weekends off, so I hear some celebrations may be ahead this weekend.
00:28:28Back to you guys.
00:28:29Kaylee, thank you.
00:28:29You guys have to do unscripted television, so you have a 52-yard play in the middle of an interview.
00:28:34Sorry, folks.
00:28:35We don't have a take-two.
00:28:37And then you have another pass here to Imani Marshall, and they're already down at the 13-yard line as
00:28:43the drive continues.
00:28:46Gabriel tries to cut it back the other way.
00:28:48Cannot get around that corner and tackle back at the 17.
00:28:51But what you saw during the middle of the interview was a 52-yard pass caught by Ben Patterson.
00:28:59So right now you've got fourth down, and in comes the field goal group.
00:29:03Yeah, how classy a guy is Drake May?
00:29:06What a future he has and, you know, one of the faces of this league.
00:29:11Great job last year.
00:29:12You can only imagine, but not just A.J. Brown, but Dobbs on the other side.
00:29:15Second year in this system.
00:29:17Trevion Henderson, Stephenson.
00:29:19They're loaded.
00:29:20Finished second to Matthew Stafford in the MVP race.
00:29:24Here's Schmidt now attempting this field goal from 35 out, and that one is good.
00:29:31So three scoring drives for the Cleveland Browns who now lead 17-7.
00:29:39You know, if you go back to that 25 season when he takes his team to the Super Bowl,
00:29:43remember first year in Josh McDaniel's system, he's 17-4 record, including the postseason.
00:29:50Finished second in the MVP voting.
00:29:53And then in the postseason, it didn't go as well.
00:29:55Sacked 21 times.
00:29:56That's an NFL record.
00:29:57Six touchdowns and four interceptions.
00:29:59You could see even his focus there when he was talking there to Kayleigh.
00:30:03Like, you know, it was a good run.
00:30:05Last year's last year, and now it's time to kind of focus on this year.
00:30:09That's what Josh McDaniels, Mike Vrabel, they've really been focusing on what they can do
00:30:14to kind of take that next step, especially with him at quarterback.
00:30:18Third go-around for Josh as the offensive coordinator.
00:30:21Of course, in between, he had a couple of opportunities.
00:30:24Head coach at Dendrick.
00:30:25Head coach with Vegas.
00:30:28And now back where he is, earned a multitude of Super Bowl rings.
00:30:36Namely six final seconds of the first quarter, 17-7, Cleveland, final preseason game for each of these teams
00:30:47and for every team this weekend around the National Football League.
00:30:51Pick fielded at the three.
00:30:52Jameichael Hastie up to the 30-yard line.
00:30:57You know, you talk about May, at one point he was, I think, the favorite to win the MVP up
00:31:02until about December.
00:31:03Then he cooled off.
00:31:04Matthew Stafford got red hot.
00:31:07And Stafford, you know, won the award.
00:31:09And, of course, he deserved every bit of it.
00:31:11But what a second season.
00:31:12And then to get Brown and to get Dobbs.
00:31:16Dobbs comes in.
00:31:16Right.
00:31:17And I think there's something about kind of going to that graduate level with this Josh McDaniels system in his
00:31:23second year.
00:31:24You know, in college, he never had the same coordinator.
00:31:26Alex Van Pelt, his rookie year, was the offensive coordinator.
00:31:29This is the first time he's really had a chance to build and grow in the same system.
00:31:33Here's Baron Morton now.
00:31:35And the receiver, it's off his foot.
00:31:37Is it a live ball?
00:31:38Cleveland thinks it is.
00:31:41And they will celebrate Easton Mascarenas' arm.
00:31:46He's an interception.
00:31:48First down, Cleveland.
00:31:50Now, what I saw is Dupree, the receiver, he started to turn and block.
00:31:56He didn't even know the ball was coming his way.
00:31:59He saw Morton get outside the pocket.
00:32:02He thought he might be taking off.
00:32:04So, he kind of gave up on the play.
00:32:06See him start to block there.
00:32:07And you called it right off the lower calf, like his foot, up into the air.
00:32:13And the Browns get a big turnover, which has been an area over the last three years that's been a
00:32:17real Achilles heel.
00:32:19They're minus 38 in the last three years in turnover margin.
00:32:22Speaking of Achilles heel, right there, right there.
00:32:25There you go.
00:32:26Visual proof.
00:32:28From the 31-yard line, Browns now.
00:32:31First down, waning seconds of the first quarter.
00:32:37And a whistle here.
00:32:41So, Carl Sheffers was going to be the referee tonight.
00:32:44Offense.
00:32:45Five-yard penalty.
00:32:46First down.
00:32:47But instead, Carl's going to be upstairs.
00:32:52And taking his spot is the son of Walt Anderson, who was on the crew, Derek Anderson.
00:33:03So, he's going to not.
00:33:04You like the coordinators now.
00:33:06You get the call plays.
00:33:07Carl says, hey, listen, why don't you take the game tonight?
00:33:10Get some reps.
00:33:11Absolutely.
00:33:13From the 36-yard line, final play of the quarter is Amani Marshall.
00:33:19Picking up three.
00:33:21And that will take us to the second quarter.
00:33:24Enter one in Cleveland.
00:33:2617-7.
00:33:28Browns back after these messages.
00:33:33Super electric pinball parlor here in Cleveland.
00:33:38You still play pinball?
00:33:41No.
00:33:42Okay.
00:33:42No.
00:33:42Me neither.
00:33:43You still love it.
00:33:45Back in the day.
00:33:45Yeah.
00:33:46Deep drop here.
00:33:48Gabriel over the middle.
00:33:48Finds the open man.
00:33:50Outside the 30.
00:33:51Push back from that spot is Devon Booth.
00:33:55Rookie out of Mississippi State.
00:33:57A couple things we're seeing is not just Gabriel executing well, but the offensive line doing
00:34:04a pretty good job as well, giving him time to be able to work through his progressions.
00:34:08Kind of bouncing around there.
00:34:10Worked around, maybe eventually found his third and fourth target.
00:34:13See what he does here on third down and see if New England dials up some pressure.
00:34:17Try to get him out of this rhythm he's been playing with.
00:34:19Eight and nine so far you see there.
00:34:22And two touchdowns, third and eight.
00:34:25Hey, 49, low down.
00:34:2749.
00:34:32And stop for no game.
00:34:34You know, normally quarterback competitions are, you know, Watson against Sanders, but who's
00:34:40going to be number three?
00:34:40And you're seeing what Gabriel can do tonight.
00:34:42And then we're going to take a look sooner than later at Talon Green, a fantastic athlete
00:34:49who, of course, had everybody crazy at the combine.
00:34:52Yeah, I mean, he is a uberly talented, athletic, young guy, six-rounder, 6'6", 230, will get
00:34:59the second half.
00:35:00And again, much like Dylan Gabriel, has had to get mental reps to try to get comfortable
00:35:04and familiar with his offense.
00:35:0747-yard attempt here.
00:35:11Andre Schmidt could be the regular season kicker.
00:35:15And that kick squeezes its way through to left, up, right.
00:35:20Three more.
00:35:23Four to the.
00:35:25Scores 20 to seven.
00:35:27When we talk about it at the open, it's been the big story here in Cleveland.
00:35:32And there is Deshaun Watson.
00:35:34And most everybody who follows football knows that here's a guy who was the belle of the ball.
00:35:40He was the guy in Houston when he came in as a rookie.
00:35:44They loved him.
00:35:46And he played great for them.
00:35:47And then, of course, it all got turned around.
00:35:49And here he is now.
00:35:51A chance to save a career that right now looks like it's bottomed out.
00:35:58But he's got a chance to bounce back.
00:35:59We'll see.
00:35:59Yeah, he does.
00:36:00And he's got a new system.
00:36:01And a lot of players that are very talented around him at receiver running back and tied in.
00:36:05And I think the thing that a lot of people talk about is the press conference and how the fans
00:36:09were booing him.
00:36:10And he kind of lost his cool after that game against Buffalo.
00:36:14If you put yourself on the field and you think about your home stadium, and obviously it's been a disaster.
00:36:19But you can see how a guy could lose his cool and say something like that.
00:36:24But it's out of his system.
00:36:25I think you'll never see him talk about that again.
00:36:28But I think at the same time, he's got to go out and execute.
00:36:31And that's what it comes down to in the NFL.
00:36:33I mean, he has not played winning football since he's been in Cleveland.
00:36:36It's been a disaster.
00:36:38But moving forward, he's worked 22 months to get back into this position.
00:36:43He could have taken his money and just not come back.
00:36:46Something drove him to come back to want to play again.
00:36:49And he's here at 30 years old.
00:36:51See what he can do.
00:36:53Yeah, a couple of Achilles surgeries, shoulder as well.
00:36:55And then knee surgery when he was in Houston.
00:36:59They loved him.
00:37:00He took his first paycheck as a rookie and gave it to three women who were working in the cafeteria
00:37:08at the Texans facilities,
00:37:10whose homes were either damaged or destroyed in a hurricane.
00:37:13Yeah, I mean, if you talk to anybody early in his career in college at Clemson,
00:37:18whether it's Dabo Sweeney, his wife Kathleen, any of his teammates, anybody in Houston early in his career,
00:37:24I mean, that's really the guy that everybody knew.
00:37:27That's why when that news broke, everybody was kind of like, whoa, what's going on?
00:37:31Everybody was kind of surprised.
00:37:32But I don't know.
00:37:34I'm a guy that believes in everybody deserves second opportunities.
00:37:38And I know that this has been a disaster, one of the worst trades maybe in the history of the
00:37:42NFL.
00:37:43But he's still a 30-year-old.
00:37:45And at one point was viewed as one of the top quarterbacks in the league with 72 career starts.
00:37:50And we'll see what he can do in Todd Monken's office.
00:37:52Coming out the side door this time is Morton.
00:37:55And he'll pick up the first down on a second and 90 scampers for a total of 14.
00:38:00Just one last thing about it.
00:38:01Like, no matter who's the quarterback, I mean, let's say it's Deshaun.
00:38:04You look at Fann in a tight end, Junkins in the backfield, these rookies, Concepcion in Boston in receiver.
00:38:12There's an abundance of young talent around the quarterback position.
00:38:15But they are minus 38 in turnover margin over the last three years.
00:38:20They just got to play smart football on the offensive side
00:38:24and rely on the defense to keep them in every game
00:38:26and just not lose it on the offensive side.
00:38:29A first down in the backfield, fighting his way from a gain of 1 to about 6 or 7, second
00:38:40down now.
00:38:41A closer look now at Morton, rookie out of Texas Tech.
00:38:46He was the 234th pick in the draft.
00:38:49So that man, he won in the seventh round.
00:38:5226 wins as a starting quarterback down at Texas Tech.
00:38:56He is.
00:38:57He's older than Drake May.
00:39:00But not quite as experienced, at least professionally.
00:39:03Second and four.
00:39:05Off the fake, deep drops.
00:39:08Flushed out, throws, caught on the run.
00:39:11And that is Arkin, Tanner Arkin, who is a rookie out of Illinois, short of the first.
00:39:15One thing about Baron Morton is not only the numbers he put up there,
00:39:20but when he got to Texas Tech, they were a program that was, you know, 6, 7 wins, kind of
00:39:25their normal year.
00:39:26And he was a part of that team when they transitioned to becoming a team that is starting to win
00:39:3211 and 12 and trying to get to a playoff spot.
00:39:35And he engineered that attitude in 36 career starts in Lubbock, Texas.
00:39:40So he's got a lot of moxie, kind of understands how to play the position.
00:39:45That's why they went out and drafted him late in the draft of the last spring.
00:39:50Hasty picks up the first down.
00:39:53And think about this.
00:39:54His entire high school career in Texas and in college never was in a huddle.
00:39:59Never was in a huddle.
00:40:01He's looking to the sideline like a lot of the college and high school offense, looking at three or four
00:40:05signs, Daffy Duck and, you know, Bucks Bunny or whatever.
00:40:08That's how they call their plays.
00:40:10And he never did a cadence.
00:40:11It was ready, ready, clap.
00:40:13That's all he's ever done.
00:40:15Never saw Mighty Mouse.
00:40:17First down, wide open inside the 25.
00:40:20Big gainer there.
00:40:21Pass is caught by Kyle Dixon.
00:40:24Rookie out of Colerick.
00:40:26Stockton.
00:40:27Kaylee, what you got?
00:40:28Well, guys, Baron Wharton told us he feels right at home being coached by Mike Rabel because his new head
00:40:33coach reminded him of his high school coach, also known as his dad, James.
00:40:37He said both coaches are hard on their players, but it brings out the best in them.
00:40:41Baron said the most important lesson his dad drilled into him, don't make the same mistake twice.
00:40:45Those are words to live by in Rabel's book.
00:40:47Guys, unlike the NFL, there were limits to how hard his high school coach could push him.
00:40:52Of course, by Baron's mom, Sunny.
00:40:54After one tough loss, she went full mom bear mode and made dad sleep in his truck.
00:41:01West Texas high school football for Friday Night Lights.
00:41:04Yeah.
00:41:05Well, I'll just say this.
00:41:06I think Josh McDaniels, as the offensive coordinator play caller, he played for his dad in high school here in
00:41:13this area in Camp McKinley.
00:41:15There's the mom of Baron Wharton right there, and Josh McDaniels played for his dad, Tom, and he understands what
00:41:22it's like to play for your dad in high school and how, again, it's something different about a kid that
00:41:26plays for his dad in high school.
00:41:29Overthrown.
00:41:36But imagine McDaniels inheriting a guy that's been in no huddle and shotgun his entire career, and Josh prides himself.
00:41:46There's his father right there, and, you know, Josh prides himself on snap count, cadence, under center.
00:41:53And so it's been a massive transition for Baron Wharton to try to adjust to the McDaniels system.
00:42:00Imagine mom making dad sleep in the truck.
00:42:05Third and ten.
00:42:11Gets it away.
00:42:12Caught.
00:42:13Can he pick up the first?
00:42:15Damn new.
00:42:18Paige on Palmer, first-year guy on the UAB.
00:42:22A little bit short, fourth and one.
00:42:25You know, when you don't ever call a play in a huddle, it's hard to imagine that.
00:42:29Now he said a play called seven words or ten words, and he said he spent the entire spring trying
00:42:36to understand how to call the plays,
00:42:38so by the time he got to camp, he wouldn't be thinking about it.
00:42:40Here's the virtual measurement.
00:42:42I think this works great in baseball, a lot of it in baseball.
00:42:46Baseball gets it done in about two seconds, and we're still waiting.
00:42:51So you're saying you're a fan?
00:42:52Come on now.
00:42:53You're a fan, it sounds like.
00:42:54Of baseball, I think it's great.
00:42:55No, this one.
00:42:57Well, it's okay.
00:42:58I mean, you want a virtual measurement, but let's make it happen, folks.
00:43:04I like the anticipation when they pull the chains myself.
00:43:10Brave's a fan of it.
00:43:12Brave's a fan.
00:43:12That sums it up right there, boys.
00:43:14Of course.
00:43:17His facial expressions are priceless down there.
00:43:20Looked like he was pretty well shy with a naked eye, but who knows?
00:43:28How are you calling down to get this measurement?
00:43:30What are we doing?
00:43:31I don't know.
00:43:32Trying to find somebody who has any clue what's going on here.
00:43:39Well, it's not Anderson's fault.
00:43:42Derek was refereeing tonight.
00:43:44Mike is basically saying, we saw it.
00:43:53We could have done three commercials.
00:43:55Short, fourth down.
00:43:57Short by what?
00:43:59By two feet, three inches, and that called for a virtual measurement?
00:44:05O'Keefe.
00:44:08You tell me, huh?
00:44:10I think they just wanted to practice getting that in.
00:44:14It's preseason.
00:44:15Everybody needs rest.
00:44:16Barry.
00:44:18Fourth and one.
00:44:19Going forward from the 14-yard line.
00:44:22Hand the ball off and plowing his way.
00:44:25Hassan Haskins for a first down.
00:44:29That's a good surge up front.
00:44:32There's some good movement there, but watch 60, the right guard, pick it up.
00:44:37Nice job of being able to deal with that penetration.
00:44:41Gives Haskins, who's one of the more physical runners on this roster for New England.
00:44:45You can see him run right through that outside linebacker safety who is collapsing down.
00:44:50He's a handful when he lowers that shoulder.
00:44:54From the 13.
00:44:5542!
00:44:5642!
00:44:5742!
00:44:58He comes up by 13.
00:45:02He comes up by 13.
00:45:03Fake, looking, down he goes.
00:45:0616-yard line.
00:45:07Runs out of time.
00:45:09For the signal.
00:45:12For the signal.
00:45:12Come to see him for the shot.
00:45:14You know, ideally, you watch him come off this play fake, and then he'll work to his right.
00:45:21And once he goes to his right, now watch him come back.
00:45:23See, in the NFL, this is where he's got to feel comfortable in making this throw right here.
00:45:28In the NFL, that's NFL open.
00:45:30And as he gets more and more reps, then he's going to find an opportunity to be able to get
00:45:34that ball out quickly.
00:45:35He started things right.
00:45:36He was comfortable.
00:45:37But he's just got to rip that.
00:45:39Right when he comes back to the back side, he's got to rip that.
00:45:42And that would have been a touchdown.
00:45:44A little injury timeout here.
00:45:46James Hudson, the third.
00:45:49Back up right guard for the New England Patriots.
00:45:54And it'll stop play momentarily.
00:45:57This drive, the 12th play, is coming up, second and 13.
00:46:01Here's Rudy, or Mike Rutenberg, the defensive coordinator for the Browns, taking over for Jim Schwartz.
00:46:06He was down in Atlanta last year with Jeff Albrecht as a pass game coordinator.
00:46:11He's very excited to have this opportunity as a first-time defensive coordinator.
00:46:16And I think it was interesting talking to him.
00:46:18He said, you know, the first three or four weeks on the job,
00:46:21there's so many guys that stayed over on this staff outside of Jim Schwartz
00:46:24that he wanted to hear about that system that they ran so successfully these last few years.
00:46:29And then he spent the next three or four weeks talking to them about his scheme,
00:46:32and they just kind of melted the two together.
00:46:35On second and 13, pass court of the 10.
00:46:37You know, Schwartz was very much in the mix to become the head coach.
00:46:40After Stefanski went down to Atlanta.
00:46:43And Jim, very disappointed, decided, uh-uh, I'm out of here.
00:46:49Yeah, you know, I think he, you know, he's been a head coach in the past back in Detroit.
00:46:53And, you know, he's felt that after the work that he did as a defensive coordinator,
00:46:57the success they had on that side of the ball is he was going to get that opportunity.
00:47:01And when he didn't, you're right, I think he decided to take this year off
00:47:04and come back in 2027 somewhere.
00:47:07He'll surface somewhere.
00:47:08Third down and seven.
00:47:11Pass caught and out of bounds, about four yards shy of the first down is Basty.
00:47:16I mean, it's unbelievable.
00:47:18Around the league, I think there were 21 new offensive coordinators this year,
00:47:2321 out of 32, and 14 defensive coordinators, and 10 new head coaches.
00:47:31Go back to your time, going back to the 80s and 90s, early 2000s.
00:47:38I thought you were going to say the 50s and 60s.
00:47:41Come on now.
00:47:41No.
00:47:42No, I'm just saying.
00:47:43I'm just saying.
00:47:44Like, you imagine saying that back with Dan Beardorff and the boys?
00:47:48Never.
00:47:48I don't even have to say that.
00:47:50It's a brand new world.
00:47:5226-yard attempt here.
00:47:54Torpori Gallis.
00:47:56To try to attack on three, which he does.
00:48:00Not Frank as a player, Frank and you in the pool.
00:48:02Oh, but of course, at least you didn't take me back to the 1800s.
00:48:07Cleveland on the series at night, 20 to 10.
00:48:10Browse.
00:48:14You know, we're kind of a family here on Thursday night,
00:48:17and Al and Linda had an opportunity last night with our team
00:48:20to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
00:48:22What a beautiful picture at their wedding.
00:48:24Here it is, by the way, up in the stadium.
00:48:27We got it up on the stadium here for everybody to see this.
00:48:31What a beautiful bride.
00:48:34Al, you look great yourself.
00:48:35And there's Linda right there.
00:48:37Glad that she, from time to time, will come out on the road.
00:48:40And we're so happy to have her out here to celebrate this 60th for you.
00:48:44So congratulations to both of you from not only our crew,
00:48:48but for millions of fans across the country
00:48:51that have loved your work for so many years.
00:48:53Thank you.
00:48:54That's my child bride.
00:48:57Incredible.
00:48:58Thank you so much.
00:48:58You know, we decided to celebrate here in Cleveland tonight.
00:49:01We're going to do something we've never done before.
00:49:04We're going to jet ski down at Tuyahoga at midnight.
00:49:07I love it.
00:49:08A little postgame party.
00:49:11Got to keep fresh, right?
00:49:13Yeah, you do.
00:49:13Oh, thank you, guys.
00:49:14Yeah, yeah.
00:49:15You guys met in, you said, middle school.
00:49:18Tenth grade.
00:49:18Tenth grade, okay.
00:49:19Early high school.
00:49:20Wow.
00:49:21Corley runs it back, yeah.
00:49:24And you told me 60 years.
00:49:26The key to 60 years.
00:49:28Give us all the secret to that,
00:49:31other than marrying the right person.
00:49:33It's as simple as that.
00:49:34You got it.
00:49:35I've been around her.
00:49:36I know you're the right person.
00:49:37You got it.
00:49:37Absolutely.
00:49:38No, just, you know,
00:49:40the love that never waned.
00:49:42I mean, it's great.
00:49:43Yeah.
00:49:43About as lucky as a guy can possibly be.
00:49:46You know, you meet somebody in the tenth grade,
00:49:47and here we are.
00:49:49Yeah.
00:49:49Good for you, bud.
00:49:50That's awesome.
00:49:51Thursday night in August.
00:49:53In a preseason game.
00:49:54You got it.
00:49:55Trying to figure out who's on the field.
00:49:57Here we go.
00:49:57Exactly right.
00:49:59That pass is overthrown.
00:50:01An incomplete, a flag is down.
00:50:03Cole Wilson, the intended receiver.
00:50:06Well, Dylan Gabriel has had about as good of a start
00:50:10as he could have dreamed of tonight
00:50:12with four series, two touchdowns, and two field goals.
00:50:17We've got a roughing the passer.
00:50:18It's going to give them a first down here
00:50:21to keep this drive alive.
00:50:25Personal foul.
00:50:27Roughing the passer.
00:50:28Number 99.
00:50:29Defense.
00:50:30Low hit on the quarterback.
00:50:3215-yard penalty.
00:50:33Automatic first down.
00:50:37Amari Gaynor.
00:50:39Gaynor just fighting to try to get in there,
00:50:41and obviously any time you come in low,
00:50:44referee all over that.
00:50:47Makes the right call.
00:50:54It's the first and 10.
00:50:566-0-3.
00:50:58Left in the first half.
00:51:09Marshall.
00:51:10Second down.
00:51:12Can't say it enough for people that are just maybe tuned in
00:51:15and, you know, you want to watch some football,
00:51:16you're watching a little preseason football.
00:51:18Dylan Gabriel has had to get mental reps throughout all of the camp.
00:51:22Hasn't gotten a lot of physical reps.
00:51:24It's been all about Shador Sanders and Deshaun Watson.
00:51:28Todd Monken selling us.
00:51:29We just didn't have time.
00:51:30We decided, predetermined,
00:51:32that we're going to give Shador a chance to battle Watson.
00:51:34He's had to sit back and watch, but you would not know that by watching Gabriel in his second year
00:51:41in the NFL with the Browns.
00:51:43Second lay.
00:51:43Here he goes again on the money.
00:51:46First and goal.
00:51:48Bill Wilson with back grab.
00:51:50I did a lot of his games in college, and this isn't really shocking to me.
00:51:55This is really who he was, whether you moved him around or he threw for the pocket.
00:52:00Usually the ball came on on time, and this is a little slot fade that, again, comfortable, sees it, reads
00:52:06it,
00:52:07and puts it right there where his receiver can make a play.
00:52:09Easy catch and another big play for this offense with Gabriel in command.
00:52:13Yeah, not quite first and goal at the 17-yard line.
00:52:17Take two.
00:52:19From the 17.
00:52:23Good ball handling.
00:52:25Pass caught.
00:52:28Ryan makes the ground.
00:52:29He looks like a guy who's been in the league four, five, six years.
00:52:32And I think the big thing is he's comfortable.
00:52:34You know, he's making good decisions.
00:52:36He's got great awareness, composed.
00:52:38He looks incredibly well prepared for a guy that hadn't played a lot.
00:52:42There's Shador, there's, of course, Deshaun.
00:52:44But I think he'd be the first one to tell you, you know, these backup offensive linemen are fighting for
00:52:50a spot
00:52:50and trying to prove to the coaches they belong on this roster.
00:52:54They've done a hell of a job themselves in giving him time to throw when he's been back there,
00:52:58whether it's boots, nakeds, or throwing from the pocket off of play action.
00:53:03Second and ten.
00:53:05Protected well.
00:53:07Fires.
00:53:08Caught.
00:53:09Touchdown.
00:53:11Flourius is third.
00:53:13What is he doing?
00:53:15Fourth in two weeks, 16 yards, and six points.
00:53:20The local product.
00:53:22Everybody made a big deal last week when he played Buffalo.
00:53:25He's from Mentor High School here in Cleveland.
00:53:27Let's see if he got his hands underneath it.
00:53:32Yep, I think so.
00:53:34We're looking at Terry.
00:53:35Terry, Terry, Terry, Terry, hop in here, bud.
00:53:38Get a preseason run.
00:53:39Look, it does look like it hits the ground at some point.
00:53:42He got control first, but then he loses control right there.
00:53:46You see as he's bringing it back up?
00:53:47Yeah, I saw that.
00:53:47He loses complete control.
00:53:49It looks to me to be an incomplete pass.
00:53:52So the ball kind of loses his hands, and you're saying he did not have control.
00:53:57You think they may take this down?
00:53:58He had control when it hit the ground, but then as he starts to bring it up, now he loses
00:54:03it again.
00:54:03Right there.
00:54:05Once it comes up.
00:54:06And I'm hearing in my ear, it looks like we're going to expedite to incomplete, as I said.
00:54:13Right there.
00:54:14We're going to semi-expedite because we're still on the field with the kicking unit.
00:54:19After review, the ball hit the ground prior to the receiver gaining possession.
00:54:23It is an incomplete pass.
00:54:26Again, if you're not familiar with the story, we said that Florian's a local product here in Mentor High School,
00:54:31right here in Cleveland, went to Kent State, scored a touchdown against Buffalo.
00:54:34Everybody was excited for him, forgot about the game ball.
00:54:38One of his teammates, Tyler Wallace, saved it for him.
00:54:40And then he comes in tonight for an encore.
00:54:42Two touchdowns already tonight from Dylan Gabriel, almost a third until Terry took it off the board,
00:54:49and we decided not to get the touchdown.
00:54:52Well, don't blame Terry.
00:54:54Terry is still perfect.
00:54:59Third down and nine.
00:55:02Blitz gets it away, caught on the run, and he keeps the clock going on another pass to Larvedan,
00:55:14and that will set up a first and goal.
00:55:17Watch the blitz here, and watch Dylan Gabriel.
00:55:20He doesn't panic.
00:55:21He doesn't bail.
00:55:21He sits in there.
00:55:22Good job of picking that up, just a little bit of a chip.
00:55:24And then I love that he puts the ball out in front of the receiver.
00:55:28So blitz in his face.
00:55:30He's a guy that's only 5'11", hasn't played a lot of football the whole camp,
00:55:33but composed once again and makes a very nice throw for that first down.
00:55:3811 to 13, 107 yards.
00:55:42Looking for his third touchdown pass of the night.
00:55:45Checks it down, and it's incomplete.
00:55:46Over the top.
00:55:48The Larvedan again.
00:55:49And the intended receiver's already caught three tonight for 43 yards.
00:55:54He wanted to make that throw to his tight end who was in motion there.
00:55:57Ryan came off of him.
00:55:59And then a smart throw on first and goal.
00:56:01You know, put it up there where your receiver can either make a play on it or it's incomplete.
00:56:05You come back ready to play here on second goal.
00:56:08Todd Monkett is going to play.
00:56:10Josh McDaniels is not.
00:56:12Todd Monkett, again, just wants to get more and more reps with this offense
00:56:17as he gets ready for his first year as a head coach.
00:56:22To the outside.
00:56:23Can he escape?
00:56:24No, he cannot.
00:56:26And about as he goes, 3-0-9.
00:56:28Mike Brown pushed him out.
00:56:30Third and goal.
00:56:31I think this is an example for a lot of quarterbacks that are around in the NFL
00:56:35that maybe don't get a lot of reps, but they're fighting for a roster spot in that third preseason game.
00:56:40They're getting a lot of mental reps.
00:56:42They don't get a chance to actually physically get out there and get reps
00:56:45and get a chance to show what they can do.
00:56:47And you get into a game like this, you really find out who's getting those mental reps
00:56:51and taking advantage of that with film.
00:56:53Mental reps when you're standing on the sideline watching.
00:56:56Gabriel clearly has done his work to put himself in a spot tonight to play well.
00:57:04From the seven.
00:57:07Gabriel caught inside the five to the end zone.
00:57:12Amani marshalled for the touchdown.
00:57:19That's just man-to-man.
00:57:22The linebacker late in getting out there.
00:57:25Watch him right here try to stay with 23.
00:57:29You know, he's already kind of behind.
00:57:31He just doesn't have the speed to be able to get to the corner.
00:57:33I think we've seen two backs tonight.
00:57:36Junkins is a starter, Dylan Sampson's their second guy, but tonight Sanders, 230 pounders, had some opportunities.
00:57:42And Amani Marshall, another big guy at Appalachian State, 225 pounds, been showing nice hands.
00:57:48It's good for the extra point.
00:57:52Gabriel telling us yesterday, if nothing else, I just want to put something good on tape.
00:57:58Dillon, you have.
00:58:00He's been a lot of good stuff on tape.
00:58:02Mission accomplished.
00:58:02Yeah.
00:58:03He won't be out of the league.
00:58:04Either he'll be here or I guarantee you somebody's going to get him.
00:58:0827-10.
00:58:15Little Cleveland sports history.
00:58:17Old Municipal Stadium.
00:58:19Oh, boy.
00:58:19Right.
00:58:19The Browns and the Indians played there for a ton of years.
00:58:23There it was for football.
00:58:25The place would be normally packed or pretty close to it.
00:58:30Baseball, not so much.
00:58:31Baseball, you had an 80,000-seat stadium.
00:58:34And you would have, very often, 4,000 or 5,000 people and 75,000 empty seats.
00:58:41Good seats were always available.
00:58:43And, of course, the then Indians, now the Guardians, had not won a World Series since 1948
00:58:48when Lou Boudreau was a player manager.
00:58:51And they got to do a number of games in the air on Monday night.
00:58:54Oh, I can't imagine.
00:58:55Oh, yeah.
00:58:56And I saw the only home run hit by a guy who had 3,700 played appearances.
00:59:01As this kickoff is fielded at the six-yard line.
00:59:04Hassan Haskins will take it up to the 30.
00:59:08Dwayne Kuyper.
00:59:10Oh, I remember Dwayne Kuyper.
00:59:11Long-time second baseman.
00:59:12He's been the Giants announced at the San Francisco Giants for a ton of years.
00:59:16He hits a home run.
00:59:17And, of course, Zelig was there to call it with the great Bill White,
00:59:21who was a former, you know, St. Louis Cardinal,
00:59:23and at one point the president of the National League.
00:59:28Okay.
00:59:29Can you imagine, like, 4,000 people.
00:59:31One home run.
00:59:32One home run.
00:59:33Career.
00:59:33Right.
00:59:34And I named every person in the crowd that night.
00:59:36That's how small it was.
00:59:38Individually.
00:59:39What were you guys doing there for Monday night baseball?
00:59:42That's a very good question.
00:59:43Who made that come?
00:59:44It was the B game, so he won the A game.
00:59:47And he hit the home run off Steve Stone.
00:59:50So, Kuyper's been the Giants announced in San Fran for three decades.
00:59:53And Stone, he has been, yeah, 41 years.
00:59:56White Sox now.
00:59:57White Sox, Cubs.
00:59:59Did he crush it?
01:00:00Or did he just get it?
01:00:01No.
01:00:02He hit it.
01:00:02We'll give it to him.
01:00:04It was a bomb.
01:00:05There you go.
01:00:06Two-minute warning here in Cleveland, Ohio.
01:00:12All right, guys, get excited.
01:00:14Carissa.
01:00:14There we go.
01:00:15There we go.
01:00:15There they are.
01:00:16We got a truncated group tonight.
01:00:18There they are.
01:00:20Three of the fabulous, whatever it is, we've got Tony, we've got Sherm.
01:00:28Who knows who's going to show up next.
01:00:30But there they are.
01:00:31We're going to talk.
01:00:31Look at Fitz, who's doing a show called Man vs. Food.
01:00:35He ate 180 oysters.
01:00:37Oh, my God.
01:00:37Right?
01:00:38And look at how slim he is.
01:00:40Yeah, he's looking great.
01:00:42And so he's far right.
01:00:43Far right looks like he's down to 180.
01:00:46No question.
01:00:47I mean, he looks, he's going to come up.
01:00:49They're both coming up in the second half to hang out.
01:00:51They are.
01:00:52Fitz in the third, Witt in the fourth.
01:00:54Carissa will take the rest of the night off.
01:00:56A pass is into traffic and it's picked off there by Donovan McMillan.
01:01:03A flag is down.
01:01:08Of course, we're going to start to celebrate the defense, but let's get the call first here.
01:01:16We'll see what the call is, but the pass rush caused this.
01:01:20Morton couldn't follow through on the throw.
01:01:22Pass interference.
01:01:23Number 31, defense.
01:01:25Well, he placed at the spot of the foul.
01:01:27Automatic first down.
01:01:31It's in the second-year safety out of Pittsburgh.
01:01:34He's flagged and they moved the ball all the way beyond midfield.
01:01:39Very, very close to the ball being tipped, which would have waved that off, but he gets the ball out
01:01:44clean.
01:01:47You see right here, he gets in there just a split second.
01:01:52I don't know.
01:01:54I don't think that's pass interference at all.
01:01:57The industry.
01:01:58Terry, you think that's pass?
01:01:59No, he's making a play on the ball.
01:02:02Yeah.
01:02:0331-yard penalty on number 31.
01:02:06And that's just incidental contact.
01:02:07He's making a play on the ball.
01:02:08Should have been a foul.
01:02:10Three-yard pick up here for Jermichael Hastings, second down.
01:02:1627-10.
01:02:17Cleveland again.
01:02:18Each team playing its final preseason game over the next couple of days, including three of the games going on
01:02:25tonight.
01:02:26Next action for Mike Rabel's team will be the opener against Seattle.
01:02:36Second and seven.
