00:00:00Five drives in the first half, five touchdowns, and Drake May has thrown four of them to four different receivers.
00:00:11Hooper, Stevenson, Diggs, and now Henry.
00:00:16He has carved up the Jets today.
00:00:20You just feel like everything just has a calmness and a poise to it.
00:00:25You know, it's never frantic.
00:00:26No matter what's happening down the field, he really has a great understanding of the spatial awareness in the pocket,
00:00:36when to move, how to move, and where all his outlets are.
00:00:40It's one of the reasons why he has a 71% completion rate, which at this point would be a franchise record if that could continue.
00:00:46Earlier this week, the NFL announced the rosters for the Pro Bowl games.
00:00:50These are the two players from these two teams that were selected.
00:00:53Gonzalez, an all-pro last year, going to his first Pro Bowl.
00:00:57Two years, two Pro Bowls for Drake May.
00:00:59Each Pro Bowl selection will wear a Pro Bowl trophy decal on their helmet through the end of the year to celebrate the achievement.
00:01:06Go to ProBowl.com to learn more about the rosters and the selections.
00:01:1135-yard line for the Jets offense.
00:01:13One timeout, 31 seconds.
00:01:15Jets will get the ball to start the second half.
00:01:17Aaron Glenn has not been particularly aggressive at the end of first halves, knowing he's got the ball to start the third quarter.
00:01:24We'll see what they do here.
00:01:26What is a blowout in the first half?
00:01:28The turnaround sparked by Mike Vrabel and Drake May this year.
00:01:39They have a chance to go from a brutal season last year to a potential number one seed this year.
00:01:51Four-win season a year ago.
00:01:53The Jets will go.
00:01:55Cook is able to find Isaiah Williams.
00:01:57Clock will continue to move.
00:01:59And the Jets will use that last timeout with 25 seconds left.
00:02:02This has been about as dominant of a game as you're going to see from any offense in the NFL.
00:02:24And a 35-3 advantage for New England going towards halftime right now.
00:02:28Your thoughts on what you've seen for the Patriots?
00:02:29I mean, it is as efficient as you could have imagined, both in the run game and the pass game.
00:02:34I love the way Josh McDaniels has mixed the personnel grouping.
00:02:37It's been a lot of jumbo with an extra lineman and two tight ends.
00:02:42The two running back formations we've seen a ton of as well.
00:02:46So both running backs have had huge contributions in this first half.
00:02:50Travion Henderson and Ramondre Stevenson.
00:02:52But just the poise in which Drake May has played this game.
00:02:55And now Del Pettis comes out of the defensive backfield and charges Brady Cook.
00:03:03It'll be the second sack of his NFL career.
00:03:06Now the Patriots will use their last timeout with 11 seconds left and third down coming up.
00:03:12I can't help but think that that roughing the passer penalty kind of made Vrabel a little bit angry.
00:03:19I can imagine.
00:03:22Because there seemed to be a little bit of a change in the tone and the feeling after that.
00:03:28It seemed like, hey, they were willing to go in at halftime 28-3 and move this game along.
00:03:32But the minute that happened, it was like, nope, we're going to kick this thing into high gear,
00:03:36go down and get another touchdown.
00:03:37And it looks like they're at least trying to give themselves an opportunity to punt return.
00:03:42Make no mistake, Mike Vrabel, a longtime Patriot, three-time Super Bowl champ,
00:03:46saw plenty of the Jets and had plenty of contributions to the success.
00:03:50I don't think there's any love lost between these two.
00:03:51I think is absolutely the point.
00:03:54Jack Gibbons ends up making the stop on Isaiah Davis.
00:03:57And that should take us to the end of the half.
00:03:59So I imagine in what is a 35-3 game with two divisional rivals and we've seen some chippiness,
00:04:06I will be fascinated to see how the emotions run during this game and maybe some crossover.
00:04:14You see Christian Barmore has to be settled down by Mike Vrabel as they go to the locker room.
00:04:19Goes, it's all right.
00:04:20Oh, boy.
00:04:24Maybe the score isn't the intrigue for the final 30 minutes.
00:04:28It might be the interactions between the Jets and the Patriots as New England's offense put up an NFL season high
00:04:35for a first half of 344 yards on the Jets defense.
00:04:41It's all part of the first half stats, which are brought to you by Allstate.
00:04:46Allstate, dominated by New England, they are looking to take their step towards the AFC East Championship.
00:04:54Could find out in about five hours whether or not they'll be hoisting that title.
00:05:01Kurt Medefe and company are in Los Angeles getting set to go for the Verizon halftime report.
00:05:06Plenty to discuss with a lot at stake in this penultimate week of the NFL regular season.
00:05:16Today's game flow brought to us by Progressive and all flow for that New England offense in the first half.
00:05:40As dominant of a performance as you might see in the NFL for one half for one team,
00:05:46and it's 35-3 at the halftime break.
00:05:51First time at over 16 years, 300-plus and 35 in the first half.
00:05:58Half.
00:06:07Longu and Williams are back.
00:06:16Regalis boots it.
00:06:19To the end zone again and another touchback.
00:06:21Inside our broadcast booth from the Meadowlands, glad to have you with us this afternoon.
00:06:30Adam and Andrew Breeze will join Christina Pink in a moment as well.
00:06:33I mean, what more can you say?
00:06:34That was as good of a performance as you can ask for on both sides of the ball for New England.
00:06:38Anytime you have more touchdown passes than you have incompletions,
00:06:42that's a good day for a quarterback.
00:06:44But really, the efficiency.
00:06:47Moving the ball up and down the field.
00:06:49I wouldn't say it was a ton of big plays, but it was just methodical.
00:06:53It was both in the run game and the pass game.
00:06:55Drake May was flawless.
00:06:57Just highly efficient football.
00:07:00Brady Cook just flung the ball ahead to avoid the sack, and he does.
00:07:04Dangerous play, but he does get an incompletion out of it.
00:07:08We mentioned Christina Pink down to the field in KP.
00:07:10What did you learn?
00:07:11Well, things get a little chippy between these two division rivals at the end of the half.
00:07:15I asked Aaron Glenn, do you need to emphasize composure?
00:07:18He said, yeah, absolutely, especially because we're not playing well.
00:07:21Our defense needs to get a stop.
00:07:23Our offense needs to get the ball moving.
00:07:24We want to start this first, second half here with a score.
00:07:27But he said, defensively, I just want to see some improvement on what we're doing.
00:07:30We've just got to create a stop.
00:07:32Been a couple of weeks since they've scored a touchdown.
00:07:36Last was in Week 15, and that blowout loss to Jacksonville.
00:07:39Luster just two field goals in New Orleans a week ago.
00:07:43Cook with a little bit of a short-arm delivery for Adonai Mitchell, and it's quickly third down and ten.
00:07:51Yeah, you know, when you feel like things just aren't going well, you're not running the ball well,
00:07:55the drop-back game isn't finding completions.
00:07:57I think you have to find a way to move the pocket.
00:07:59Sometimes that's a good way just to help a quarterback get in rhythm.
00:08:02Helps the offensive line a little bit.
00:08:03You know, when you start moving the launch point and making a defensive line,
00:08:07not be able just to target on that four-to-five-yard area behind the center.
00:08:14But you certainly don't want to continue to be in these third and longs.
00:08:18It's been typical of this day today for Brady Cook and the Jets.
00:08:23Extra body coming for New England.
00:08:24A little comeback route for Mitchell.
00:08:26A stumble, but he made the grab short of the first down marker in front of Christian Gonzalez.
00:08:32So those two give each other a little respect.
00:08:36Yeah, it's third and ten.
00:08:38So Christian Gonzalez is just playing for the deep.
00:08:41The deep ball, he's going to keep everything in front of him.
00:08:45Look, Adonai Mitchell's got a ton of targets today.
00:08:47I'm actually surprised they're putting the ball here.
00:08:49I would have expected them really with nothing to lose
00:08:52and trying to create some tempo and rhythm for the offense to at least give this a go.
00:09:00Might be a fake.
00:09:02Let's see if the protector calls for it.
00:09:05Instead, they'll deliver it back to McNamara.
00:09:08And it is a pass for McNamara, his first in the NFL.
00:09:11And if it's held on to, it's a first down.
00:09:14It is.
00:09:14It was caught for the Jets by Malakai Moore.
00:09:1927.
00:09:20You saw him calling out the signals.
00:09:23And sure enough, Austin McNamara throws a conversion pass.
00:09:26It certainly felt like there was a lot of orchestration going on here.
00:09:30So you felt like something was up.
00:09:31And you just watch Malakai Moore sneak through.
00:09:36Probably not the prettiest looking fake I've ever seen.
00:09:39A throw over the minute.
00:09:43Basically looked like he was throwing a check down.
00:09:46But it worked.
00:09:47That's his first pass since his freshman year of college for Austin McNamara.
00:09:52He threw a 34-yard completion as a freshman at Texas Tech.
00:09:57And after that, Jelani Tavai makes the stop on Brees Hall.
00:10:04Austin McNamara spent five years at Texas Tech.
00:10:06He was a very good punter.
00:10:09But through one pass, a little pump fake as well.
00:10:12I was going to say, let's grade the throw.
00:10:15So that looked like he was being really cold coming off the bench is what that looked like.
00:10:23But he got the job done.
00:10:25And Brees Hall just picked up seven yards.
00:10:27And that puts him over 1,000 yards rushing on the season.
00:10:33He's the first New York Jet running back to hit that mark since Chris Ivory a decade ago.
00:10:38Right back to Brees.
00:10:40He can't lose too much yardage.
00:10:42Otherwise, that will take it away from him.
00:10:44Good penetration by Eric Gregory as Hall ran it to the outside.
00:10:49He does end up losing three yards.
00:10:51But that sticks him right at 46.
00:10:53That was the mark he needed to hit to get to 1,000.
00:10:56And that's where he's sitting right now.
00:10:58I was going to say, you can't get it and then have it taken away, can you?
00:11:03No, you can't.
00:11:03Technically, you can't.
00:11:04Apparently, you can't.
00:11:06See, you quarterbacks don't have to deal with all that stuff on the negative pass plays, right?
00:11:09No, we do.
00:11:10Sacks take away our pass yards.
00:11:12Sacks take it away, so there you go.
00:11:14Yeah, Brees Hall first since Chris Ivory to hit 1,000 yards.
00:11:17He's been one of the bright spots in what has been a rough year for the New York Jets offense.
00:11:24Hook into a tight window that time for Mitchell, and it's incomplete.
00:11:29That'll bring up fourth down.
00:11:31Gonzalez nearly had the pick.
00:11:32KP's down to the field with Moore.
00:11:34Guys, surprisingly, it has been taken away from him before.
00:11:37Two years ago, he finished the season six yards shy of 1,000.
00:11:41He told me he thought he got it.
00:11:42He told he got it during the game.
00:11:44And after the game, they got it taken away.
00:11:46So he came short.
00:11:47Told me he was a little mad about it, but he thought it'd be cool to get it this time around.
00:11:50His offensive line wants to get it as well.
00:11:52But he said most importantly for him is trying to get some wins.
00:11:55994 yards in 2023.
00:11:58That was after he had torn his ACL as a rookie.
00:12:02Another fake punt.
00:12:03This time it's a snap to Isaiah Davis.
00:12:05This time the Patriots will not be fooled.
00:12:08They get the stop.
00:12:09Corey Durden on the play.
00:12:11And Mike Vrabel feeling very good after that.
00:12:14Pulling out all the stops, seemingly.
00:12:23Instead, the Patriots get the stop and get the ball back in plus territory.
00:12:29A fun Drake May fact is that this guy loves Drake May.
00:12:33Maybe he's the owner of the Instagram account Drake May lover.
00:12:38Who knows?
00:12:39Out there in the shadows.
00:12:40Travion Henderson with carry on first down.
00:12:44Down to Christina Pink.
00:12:45Safe to say Mike Vrabel, a big fan of Drake May as well.
00:12:48Efficient game from his quarterback.
00:12:50He said that everyone's playing well around him.
00:12:53Josh McDaniel doing a great job calling the game as well.
00:12:55But he said Drake's done a great job extending plays outside of the pocket.
00:12:59But everybody's got to play well around him.
00:13:01And the players have come out and execute.
00:13:02But he said a big emphasis for us is making sure we win the second half.
00:13:07I'll be disappointed if that doesn't happen.
00:13:08And as DB pointed out, Christina, more touchdown passes than incompletions for May today.
00:13:16What a run.
00:13:17What a push.
00:13:18Travion Henderson burrows his way down near the 30.
00:13:2515-yard run with some help.
00:13:28We've got to give some love to this offensive line, especially that right side.
00:13:31Morgan Moses and Mike Ouenu.
00:13:33And then just pushing the pile right here.
00:13:37Man, such a tough runner is Travion Henderson.
00:13:41Drake May's happy.
00:13:42In fact, more emphatic with the first down mark than any of his touchdown passes today.
00:13:46That's right.
00:13:48This offensive line, which had four new starters at the beginning of the season,
00:13:52looks a little bit more like last year's O-line with the injuries that they're dealing with right now.
00:13:56Veteran center Bradbury and May helping check it at the line.
00:14:03Toss play for Henderson.
00:14:05Another push to turn it into a positive play.
00:14:08Part of the poise of Drake May is how well he's done against pressure.
00:14:11Just watch how composed he stays here, especially when he's got a free rusher in his face.
00:14:16But a lot of times you just stay anchored on that back foot, wait for your receiver to make the break,
00:14:20and then just get that ball out as quick as you can, knowing that you're going to take a hit.
00:14:24Here, he knows he's got an interior pressure.
00:14:28Somebody's got a drop for the back.
00:14:29It's going to be the defensive end.
00:14:30You love that matchup down the field.
00:14:32Again, so much poise and composure from Drake May throughout this entire game
00:14:38and really this entire season.
00:14:39It's one of his best traits.
00:14:41Off the fake, May pumps, steps up, and he's going to get back near the line of scrimmage.
00:14:50Colin Saunders is going to end up with the sack.
00:14:55That's a rarity for the Jets.
00:14:56They had just 25 sacks coming into action today, tied for the second fewest in the NFL.
00:15:02Saunders has his first with the Jets.
00:15:04One of the few third downs that the Patriots have had today.
00:15:12They've converted the previous ones, and again, they're getting another man look.
00:15:19Going to motion in the back, back in the backfield.
00:15:22Let's see if the Jets decide to dial up their pressure again.
00:15:26They run a stunt with four.
00:15:28That opens things up for Ramondre Stevenson.
00:15:32First down and goal for New England.
00:15:34So they are now four of six on third down, and the two third downs, they didn't convert.
00:15:39They're two for two on fourth.
00:15:40So so much of the movement that the Patriots incorporate is just to figure out if it's man
00:15:45and zone.
00:15:45So they bring the running back in.
00:15:47The linebacker travels so you know it's man-to-man.
00:15:50Watch how he gets picked.
00:15:52A lot of times you'll do that purposely.
00:15:54You know you get man-to-man.
00:15:55You leave the play on.
00:15:56If you don't, you'll end up killing it to a different play.
00:15:59But again, just some of that creativity and ways that they just gather information
00:16:03in this Josh McDaniels offense.
00:16:06May on the rollout, on the move, throws to the end zone.
00:16:10It is caught for the touchdown.
00:16:14Guess who?
00:16:15The first of his NFL career.
00:16:18Efton Chisholm III, undrafted, out of Eastern Washington,
00:16:23gets his first chances in the offense, and he's got his first NFL touchdown.
00:16:28Hold on to that ball, young man.
00:16:34A little misdirection.
00:16:35They've been running the ball so well today.
00:16:37So you know it's going to get Drake May on the perimeter,
00:16:40which is a quarterback you love because it creates these throwing angles for you.
00:16:45And Efton Chisholm doing a good job all day when he has been in the game of blocking,
00:16:49digging out defenders in the run game.
00:16:52And in talking with the entire team yesterday,
00:16:54they were so excited for this guy to get the opportunity to play today.
00:16:58And he maximized that opportunity with that touchdown.
00:17:03Eastern Washington zone, Efton Chisholm III.
00:17:07Touchdown.
00:17:12Just the fourth ever New England quarterback to throw five touchdown passes in a game.
00:17:17Drake May today has delivered those five TDs to five different receivers,
00:17:22the latest of which is an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington,
00:17:25who was an FCS All-American last year.
00:17:28And Efton Chisholm III,
00:17:30a guy who the Patriots paid a little extra money to to make sure he stuck around.
00:17:36That's how much they liked him.
00:17:37They knew he'd get some chances today with some of the injuries.
00:17:40And he has come up with a 30-yard catch
00:17:43and now a touchdown reception from Drake May down in the field and Christina Pink.
00:17:48Yeah, you've said that one a lot today.
00:17:50Drake May, so calm, cool, and collected in his second year.
00:17:53But back in training camp, Mike Vrabel actually had to tell him,
00:17:57listen, get down there and go celebrate on some of these touchdowns.
00:18:00You know, he said, for guys I know, it's so hard to get down there and score.
00:18:04So guys like to see the quarterback coming out there, celebrating them.
00:18:08You see one of them here.
00:18:10And Drake, again, just such a cool cat, keeps his composure a lot.
00:18:13But he said, look, you've got to have fun with this.
00:18:15Go down there and celebrate with your team.
00:18:17It's been a fun day if you're a New England fan right now.
00:18:20Well, Brady Cook is not having a lot of fun right now.
00:18:24He gets buried by Jeremiah Farms.
00:18:27There is a flag thrown on the play.
00:18:29Just the third game of the year for Farms.
00:18:32He got signed to the active roster yesterday.
00:18:37Had a couple of sacks last year and finished off that play.
00:18:40We'll check the penalty marker.
00:18:42Personal foul, roughing the passer.
00:18:45Defense number 98.
00:18:4615-yard penalty.
00:18:47Maybe some body weight here for Farms, potentially.
00:18:50Let's see if there was the contact of the body weight.
00:18:57Yeah, I'm guessing it's going to be the body weight.
00:19:03Tough one against Farms, it feels like there.
00:19:05But maybe, maybe what the Jets' offense needed just to get it going again.
00:19:18Something.
00:19:19Looking for some sign of life today.
00:19:24Low throws scooped up off the deck by Isaiah Williams.
00:19:28He'll pick up about five as we check in with CT for a game break.
00:19:31Thank you, Adam.
00:19:32Jags down three.
00:19:34Trevor Lawrence says, I'll just take this one again.
00:19:36His second rushing touchdown of the day.
00:19:38This one from six yards out.
00:19:39Jags lead for the first time today.
00:19:4114-10 over the Colts.
00:19:43Adam.
00:19:43Well, the Patriots were trying to avoid Jacksonville leapfrogging them.
00:19:50Obviously, they're in control against New York.
00:19:52That would keep them in front of Jacksonville.
00:19:55Here's Brees Hall.
00:19:57Nice stiff arm.
00:19:58Breaks a tackle and picks up a first down run into Patriots territory.
00:20:01Got past Craig Woodson, the rookie.
00:20:04So, we hit the seven-minute mark here in the third.
00:20:05Here's Brees Hall said, Derrick Henry, I can stiff arm too.
00:20:14Padding that 1,000-yard stat here.
00:20:17Again, I feel like a couple of these drives,
00:20:19all it took was the Jets to get that first first down,
00:20:22then all of a sudden it just feels like there's a different energy
00:20:24with this offense.
00:20:26It feels like the tempo kicks up a notch,
00:20:28and then they start moving the ball a little bit.
00:20:31He's now on the rollout,
00:20:36and it will be a forward pass, I believe.
00:20:40It looked like it had moved forward from Brady Cook,
00:20:43but could this be a grounding penalty potentially
00:20:45as Corey Durden was bringing some pressure?
00:20:49Yeah, he just didn't get it past the line of scrimmage.
00:20:52Yeah, it was forward but not past the line potentially.
00:20:56That might induce the flag, and there it is.
00:20:57So he throws this from, like, the minus 47.
00:21:02Offense number four.
00:21:04Ten-yard penalty.
00:21:05Lost it down.
00:21:06Second down.
00:21:07And nobody was there.
00:21:08Again, the line of scrimmage was the 43,
00:21:11so he had to get it all the way back and did not.
00:21:13It's about six or seven yards shy.
00:21:16I think sometimes you see that as a fan,
00:21:18and you're like, what was he doing?
00:21:20I did see Brees Hall back there,
00:21:21and it looked like he got hit.
00:21:23So Brees Hall technically may be supposed to be out there
00:21:26on a check down, and as a quarterback,
00:21:28hey, worst case, I can always just launch it over his head.
00:21:31Unfortunately, he just wasn't anywhere near
00:21:33where the ball went out of bounds,
00:21:34so they're going to throw the flag on you.
00:21:36So it's the loss of down and the loss of yardage
00:21:39on the intentional grounding penalty.
00:21:45Brady Cook out route incomplete,
00:21:47looking for Isaiah Williams.
00:21:51Brady Cook grew up a Mizzou fan in St. Louis,
00:21:54spent five years as a Missouri Tiger,
00:21:56the last three of which as a starter.
00:21:58126 out of his 39 starts,
00:22:00finished right behind Chase Daniel and Drew Locke
00:22:02in terms of all-time passing yards.
00:22:05He had a very solid career as a college quarterback.
00:22:09Yeah, you know, he came in with a bunch of experience
00:22:12and told us in our meetings that, you know,
00:22:15he chose to come to the Jets.
00:22:16He had some other free agent opportunities.
00:22:18In fact, some other teams that were offering him more money,
00:22:21but he felt like he had an opportunity to come here
00:22:23and play early, which, sure enough,
00:22:26that's happened here down the stretch.
00:22:28Here's Isaiah Davis on third down and 20.
00:22:30He'll get inside the New England 45-yard line,
00:22:33brings up fourth down.
00:22:34I would imagine they'd want to go for it here,
00:22:37especially after a pair of fake punts on the last drive.
00:22:41Absolutely.
00:22:42Another thing Brady Cook said
00:22:44was that Aaron Glenn has been so great throughout this season
00:22:48and just continuing to come up to him
00:22:50and even during some of the frustrating times this season,
00:22:53saying, hey, young Buck, there's a plan for you.
00:22:57You know, stick with it, trust the process,
00:22:59and you're going to get your opportunity.
00:23:02And look, he's made the most of it.
00:23:04I know it's been tough.
00:23:05There's been the turnovers.
00:23:06There's been the sacks.
00:23:07But he's getting some valuable experience right now
00:23:09that will pay dividends down the road.
00:23:11Blitz coming for New England.
00:23:15Brady Cook steps up,
00:23:16throws across his body to Williams,
00:23:18who tries to lunge ahead,
00:23:20but he looks to be short of the first down marker.
00:23:23Marcus Jones came over and made the stop.
00:23:25It's a turnover on downs,
00:23:27and New England will take over
00:23:28with that 42-3 lead intact.
00:23:32Five and a half to play in the third.
00:23:35Kind of a microcosm for the Jets today
00:23:37and maybe even this season.
00:23:39Just short.
00:23:44So Drake May is done for the day.
00:23:47A near-perfect passer rating.
00:23:49Just two incompletions.
00:23:50Five touchdowns to five different receivers.
00:23:54And he'll give way,
00:23:55with still five and a half minutes left in the third quarter,
00:23:57to the pastronaut,
00:23:58Josh Dobbs,
00:23:59who made a couple of appearances
00:24:01against Carolina and Tennessee this year,
00:24:03will get some run.
00:24:03I was going to say,
00:24:04Drake May 19 of 21 for 256 and five touchdowns,
00:24:07and yet we can't get a perfect quarterback rating.
00:24:09I know, right?
00:24:09Can we do something about that?
00:24:10The weirdest formula in sports.
00:24:13Here's Hunter Henry with a huge,
00:24:17and I mean huge,
00:24:18convoy of big boys blocking
00:24:20all the way down the field for 23 yards.
00:24:25Yeah, there's nobody that does a better job
00:24:27in the screen game than Josh McDaniels.
00:24:30And what I love here is, man,
00:24:31just the timing in which this caravan starts
00:24:35with Hunter Henry just rolling behind.
00:24:38Yeah, Drake May still having fun.
00:24:40Maybe more fun on the sideline,
00:24:43sure,
00:24:44than he does when he's actually out there
00:24:46throwing it himself.
00:24:48A handoff for Travion Henderson.
00:24:51Good run on first down to the 37-yard line.
00:24:56But Dobbs on his ninth NFL team
00:24:58comes in after a hot start for New England.
00:25:00Unfortunately for the Jets here,
00:25:02there's a player down on the deck.
00:25:04Step aside as he's tended to.
00:25:14Montez Stiggers looks like he's going to be done for the day.
00:25:16One of the great stories for the New York Jets.
00:25:18Dropped out of Lane College in Tennessee as a freshman
00:25:21after his father passed away in a tragic car accident.
00:25:24Battled depression for a couple of years,
00:25:26understandably so.
00:25:27Took a couple of years before his mother urged him
00:25:30to go back and find an opportunity in pro football.
00:25:32He played in the fan-controlled football league,
00:25:35earned a one-year spot with the Argonauts,
00:25:37and the CFL wins CFL Rookie of the Year,
00:25:40and that earns him a drafted spot
00:25:41in the fifth round last year by the Jets.
00:25:44He's battled through a couple of injuries today,
00:25:46and, unfortunately, he looks to be done for this game.
00:25:49Back to work goes Henderson.
00:25:51First down for New England.
00:25:53Yeah, Montez Stiggers, such an amazing story.
00:25:55And, honestly, as you turn on the film,
00:25:57I know Brandon Stevens, the corner on the other side,
00:26:00was kind of their big free agent acquisition
00:26:02this offseason playing opposite of Sauce Gardner.
00:26:05But when you turn on the film,
00:26:06Montez Stiggers jumps off the page
00:26:08as being a guy who has good size,
00:26:10really good quicks and transition skills,
00:26:12plays in space well.
00:26:13I think just for a lot of these DBs
00:26:15with the Jets right now, they're just so young.
00:26:18They've got college free agent Dean Clark,
00:26:21college free agent Jordan Clark,
00:26:22Malachi Moore's a rookie.
00:26:24So guys that are just young
00:26:26and need more experience and more time.
00:26:29Think about all the injuries
00:26:30just in the defensive backfield.
00:26:32Tony Adams gets hurt a couple of weeks ago,
00:26:33so that's a veteran guy that you lose.
00:26:35Chris Boyd has been on the IR all season long.
00:26:38They traded for Jarvis Brownlee.
00:26:39He got hurt in Week 12 against Baltimore.
00:26:42Andre Sisco only played half the year.
00:26:44He was a guy that they picked up a couple of years ago.
00:26:47Isaiah Oliver got hurt a couple of weeks ago.
00:26:50And Azari A. Thomas got hurt about three weeks ago.
00:26:52Like, that's why you're playing three rookies
00:26:54as you're starting DBs in a five-man backfield.
00:26:57Six DBs on IR, and you trade Sauce Gardner.
00:26:59So call it seven.
00:27:02That's been the revolving door this season
00:27:04on the back end.
00:27:06Henderson gets swallowed up by Quincy Williams.
00:27:08Haven't had a chance to say his name very often today.
00:27:10One of the bright spots for a Jets defense.
00:27:14Big game against New Orleans last week.
00:27:16Obviously, his brother Quinnen got traded.
00:27:18Quinnen Williams to Dallas.
00:27:20Gardner got traded to Indianapolis.
00:27:23It's just been a swinging door
00:27:26and different bodies all throughout.
00:27:28I went back and looked.
00:27:29I think I counted eight rookies
00:27:30or undrafted free agents
00:27:32on the current defensive depth chart,
00:27:34just on the defense for the Jets right now.
00:27:36Yeah, which really requires you
00:27:39to be very simple in what you do.
00:27:42And honestly, one of the most simple things
00:27:44you can do on defense is just play man coverage.
00:27:46Because it's, hey, you're covering that man.
00:27:49There's nothing else you have to think about.
00:27:51You know, some of the nuances will happen up front
00:27:53with what you do with the defensive line
00:27:55and maybe stunts in games
00:27:57and maybe some of the pressures that you orchestrate.
00:27:59But especially when you have young defensive backs,
00:28:02it's just play man-to-man coverage.
00:28:04Let's talk about technique.
00:28:06Let's talk about matchup.
00:28:07Let's talk about, you know,
00:28:09awareness as to where your help is.
00:28:11But certainly, a lot of times you'll find yourself
00:28:14with some not-so-favorable matchups
00:28:16when you're having to play so many young guys
00:28:18that are still learning, growing, and developing.
00:28:21It's the first time that the Jets hold the Patriots
00:28:24to a field goal opportunity.
00:28:26Williams was just shy of the marker.
00:28:28And Boric Golis with the doink.
00:28:31Just his fourth missed field goal all season long,
00:28:35and it's the first time New England
00:28:36has not scored on a touch today.
00:28:39Yeah, prior to this, six drives, six touchdowns.
00:28:46A kicker's least favorite sound.
00:28:48That has a bit of a reverberation through the stadium.
00:28:57I mean, we can hear that up here in the booth.
00:28:59The way MetLife Stadium's built,
00:29:00it's kind of built straight up for the sound
00:29:02when it is loud in here.
00:29:04More often than not,
00:29:05it's been for the opposing team, unfortunately,
00:29:07for the folks here in Jersey.
00:29:08It does fill the building.
00:29:10The Jets are going to use a timeout here.
00:29:20They only had 10 men on the field,
00:29:22so they'll take a timeout.
00:29:24We'll get a game break from CT.
00:29:26Adam, so the Seahawks currently the number one seed
00:29:28in the NFC, up 10-3 on the Panthers.
00:29:30Sam Darnold finds A.J. Barner,
00:29:32who gets a nice block and in for the 17-yard score.
00:29:35Seahawks lead the Panthers 17-3.
00:29:37Adam?
00:29:37A little bit of a potential sigh of relief
00:29:42for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
00:29:43who are getting a big test for the Miami Dolphins today.
00:29:47Buccaneers had to win today
00:29:49to avoid Carolina coming away with the division.
00:29:53Again, it still could set up
00:29:54a NFC South championship game
00:29:57between Tampa Bay and Carolina.
00:29:58A week from now,
00:29:59Seattle's looking for the number one seed in the NFC.
00:30:03They've got a shot to put that away today
00:30:05with a win and significant help.
00:30:08There's Brees Hall.
00:30:09He has a good run on first down for New York.
00:30:12Yeah, so many storylines around the NFL
00:30:14going down to the wire
00:30:16with these divisional games to wrap up the season.
00:30:20If Seattle wins and both the Niners and Rams lose in primetime,
00:30:29Niners play tonight against Chicago,
00:30:31Rams tomorrow against Atlanta,
00:30:32then Seattle would be the number one seed in the NFC.
00:30:36Bears clinched the NFC North last night with that Packers loss.
00:30:41Reese Hall on the toss and maybe a yard on the play
00:30:45as he got grabbed by Leonard Taylor.
00:30:46Eagles can still get the number two seed
00:30:51with a win and a couple of Bears losses.
00:30:54Philly's playing Buffalo today,
00:30:55and all the Patriots fans are going to be watching that game rooting for Philly,
00:30:59which I know is a weird concept for Patriots fans,
00:31:01but hoping for a Buffalo loss today to crown themselves as the AFC East champions.
00:31:06It looks like there's going to be some interesting weather up there.
00:31:09That's right.
00:31:10Today, too.
00:31:11Not just snow, more like a freezing rain sleet.
00:31:14Yeah, snow sleet.
00:31:14You've played in some slushy games before in your NFL career.
00:31:19Hall right near the line to gain.
00:31:26Might be dealing with a little bit of that wintry mix,
00:31:28as the meteorologists like to say here in the Meadowlands as well.
00:31:32Fourth down coming up.
00:31:35Jets can take this all the way down.
00:31:38They're going to say first down.
00:31:40For a second, it was going to be fourth.
00:31:41They do end up spotting the ball right at the 41 for the first down,
00:31:45so it'll be a fresh set to start the fourth for New York.
00:31:49What has been a game dominated by New England in a turnaround season?
00:31:54Four wins last year for the Patriots.
00:31:57They're a quarter away from win number 13 on the season.
00:32:02A little bit of positivity, Jets fans.
00:32:07I know you're looking forward to the next two drafts, right?
00:32:09You've got two first-round picks next year
00:32:11and a bevy of high-round draft picks coming up in the next two seasons.
00:32:15Yeah, you're going to get five first-round picks in the next two years.
00:32:20Quite a few in the second round.
00:32:24And then a lot of late-round draft picks.
00:32:26And then you've got plenty of room in free agency as well.
00:32:29So you think about all the holes you need to fill,
00:32:32certainly you're going to have the opportunity to go out
00:32:34and get some talented players.
00:32:35Here we go.
00:32:36Brees Hall taking it all the way for a Jets touchdown.
00:32:42A little more positivity for New York.
00:32:45A little lightning bolt from Brees.
00:32:4759-yard strike, his longest run of the year.
00:32:55Let's watch this.
00:32:57Bit of a misdirection.
00:32:59Mechie comes around on the block, and Brees Hall does the rest.
00:33:04You don't...
00:33:06You see him just make so many guys miss.
00:33:08It's yards after contact.
00:33:10But when he has a chance to kind of open up that gallop,
00:33:16Brees Hall has some speed.
00:33:18Jets had 58 rush yards in the first three quarters.
00:33:21That one went for 59 and a score.
00:33:25And Brees Hall's going to be an interesting name.
00:33:27He's scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season.
00:33:31So if not the Jets,
00:33:33somebody out there is going to want a little Brees lightning on their roster.
00:33:36Nice run by Hall.
00:33:37Brees Hall, Sean Green, Chris Ivory, Thomas Jones, Curtis Martin,
00:33:48played for both Jets and Patriots, Freeman McNeil, Adrian Murrell, John Riggins.
00:33:52That's the list of New York Jets that have run for 1,000 yards in a season.
00:33:56Big-time game for Brees Hall in his first rushing touchdown in about a month.
00:34:02Ernest Johnson upended past the 25-yard line by Isaiah Davis.
00:34:07And Davis is slow to get up after that play.
00:34:19Davis, who's been a serviceable backup for Brees Hall
00:34:23in the absence of Antonio Gibson, or I beg your pardon, of Braylon Allen, I should say.
00:34:31Josh Dobbs getting set to go.
00:34:33We'll step aside.
00:34:33To see Isaiah Davis walk off the field, he's played in every game in his first two years in the league,
00:34:41fifth-round pick last year, had to become the main backup when Braylon Allen got hurt a month into the season.
00:34:49Brady Cook said a lot of good things about him.
00:34:52It's kind of how he's helped not only him develop, but certainly his contributions to the offense.
00:34:57And special teams.
00:35:00Both those guys from Missouri.
00:35:03Brady Cook from St. Louis.
00:35:05Isaiah Davis from Joplin.
00:35:08Joshua Dobbs from the Alpharetta, Georgia area.
00:35:11He'll hand off for Dearness Johnson.
00:35:13Harrison Phillips is there for the stop.
00:35:16Here's some of the balance of this New England offense,
00:35:18and the lucky number has been number seven this year.
00:35:22Not only on offense, on defense as well.
00:35:28Major turnarounds on both sides of the ball for New England this year with Mike Brayble,
00:35:32and Josh McDaniels returning.
00:35:36A nice job by Zach Kerr as well as the acting defensive coordinator in the absence of Terrell Williams.
00:35:44Johnson again, nothing there.
00:35:46Good play by Jasir Taylor, the New Jersey native.
00:35:49It was great talking to Josh McDaniels yesterday.
00:35:53I've had so much respect for him for so long.
00:35:56He's been in the league for 25 years now, mainly as an offensive coordinator right here in New England.
00:36:02Two head coaching stints.
00:36:05But, you know, his first year out of coaching last year after being fired with the Vegas Raiders,
00:36:11and he said it was a great opportunity just to sit back, observe the league last year,
00:36:15study the trends, and then certainly the opportunity to come back here with Mike Brayble
00:36:20and work with a young quarterback in Drake May.
00:36:27Underneath, catch made by Stevenson.
00:36:28Fourth down coming up.
00:36:3019th year with the New England Patriots in three stints for McDaniels.
00:36:34It's truly amazing.
00:36:35You know, for so many years, you were watching what he and Tom Brady were able to build with this offense.
00:36:41I think what I've respected so much about him is, you know, with each game that you watch,
00:36:46you can see that there's a clear plan in place.
00:36:49And a lot of times it's, hey, well, you know, who's healthy that game?
00:36:53All of a sudden, we're down wide receivers like we saw today.
00:36:56Okay, you're going to get more jumbo package.
00:36:58You're going to get the two tight end packages.
00:37:00You know, we're going to put both running backs on the field.
00:37:02So just his ability to game plan and to scheme opposing defenses,
00:37:07not only to attack their weaknesses,
00:37:10but also to accentuate the strengths that you just have that day.
00:37:14But Drake May has just allowed him to incorporate so many more elements to this offense
00:37:18because he's never quite had a guy that mobile in that athletic.
00:37:22So all of a sudden, these bootlegs move in the pocket,
00:37:24doing all the things that Drake May does so well.
00:37:29First punt of the day for Bryce Beringer.
00:37:32And Jets take over.
00:37:35And Brady Cook at his own 22-yard line.
00:37:44We'll go with a toss play to their main offensive weapon today,
00:37:48Brees Hall.
00:37:49He gets dragged out.
00:37:51Jelani Tabai there on the stop.
00:37:54Brees Hall was still getting that glove on before the snap.
00:37:58They said, forget about both of them.
00:37:59And Hall, after that play, a little bit slow to get up.
00:38:05And he was limping after the Tabai tackle on the sideline.
00:38:08Checking on him.
00:38:19And I imagine Brees Hall might get a little breather right now.
00:38:28Let's watch this play towards the sideline.
00:38:30Banged his leg down into the turf.
00:38:38So he's going to come off the field.
00:38:41Kanae Wangu has had one offensive snap all year.
00:38:44Remember, Isaiah Davis, who's been the backup for the last couple of months,
00:38:48he went to the sidelines after a special teams play.
00:38:50He is in the concussion protocol as Davis.
00:38:55So Wangu has not touched the ball outside of special teams this year.
00:39:00Hasn't carried the ball in two years.
00:39:02Hasn't caught a ball in three years.
00:39:05He's out there running back.
00:39:07It sounds like he's due.
00:39:08He's due.
00:39:08It's time.
00:39:11Line up just off the wing there.
00:39:13Jelani Woods in motion.
00:39:20Cook throws.
00:39:21It is complete to Adonai Mitchell.
00:39:23Came over in the Sauce Gardner trade from Indianapolis.
00:39:27And again, the concern with Brees Hall is he's got a little limp to his gait.
00:39:31We talked about earlier in the game,
00:39:33certainly the strength and the experience with this offense
00:39:36is along the offensive line and with Brees Hall.
00:39:38But you look at Brady Cook only in his third start,
00:39:42and you've got all these wide receivers that he's literally been with for six weeks.
00:39:47You know, certainly Garrett Wilson has been gone for half the season.
00:39:51But John Mechie, Adonai Mitchell, you know,
00:39:54it just takes a while to build that chemistry
00:39:56and build that timing and confidence together.
00:39:58Remember, Mechie came over in a trade from Philadelphia.
00:40:01There's a catch by Stone Smart, the former L.A. Charger tight end.
00:40:05He has his sixth catch of the season.
00:40:07His first five came last week in New Orleans.
00:40:09First down.
00:40:12Good to see Brady Cook turning the ball loose with confidence.
00:40:17Stone Smart became a bit of a target for him last week,
00:40:20mainly in two-minute drives against the New Orleans Saints.
00:40:22But nonetheless, those tight ends in the middle of the field, big targets.
00:40:28Big catch radius for the young quarterback.
00:40:30All right, Arian Smith, the rookie, in motion.
00:40:41A couple of fakes.
00:40:42Cook swings it out.
00:40:44Grabbed by Smith.
00:40:45And the rookie out of Georgia has his seventh NFL catch.
00:40:49Former track star with the Bulldogs.
00:40:51And you got an offensive lineman, John Simpson,
00:40:56a little slow to get up after that play.
00:40:58He's one of those offensive linemen that has started every game.
00:41:02All five spots.
00:41:03Fashionew, Simpson, Meyers.
00:41:21And Cook's college teammate, Armand Membu, at right tackle.
00:41:36And now Xavier Newman is likely going to check in for John Simpson.
00:41:46As Aaron Glenn comes out, we'll step aside.
00:41:48Former Raider and Raven.
00:41:50Now in his second year with the Jets,
00:41:52John Simpson collided with the rookie out of LSU, Braden Swinson,
00:41:57who's playing his first defensive snaps in the NFL.
00:42:00So Simpson to the sideline.
00:42:01Xavier Newman is in.
00:42:03And here is the first carry in two seasons for Wong Goom.
00:42:07And he gets a hit from Corey Durden and the rookie defensive back,
00:42:11Colby Miner.
00:42:16A little tempo here for the Jets.
00:42:18Third and short.
00:42:24Oh, that's a first down for Wong Goom.
00:42:28I like the tempo.
00:42:30I say keep doing it.
00:42:31You're standing on the sidelines, 32-point game.
00:42:37What do you want?
00:42:38What do you want to walk away with?
00:42:40I know it's disappointing.
00:42:41The loss, it's got to feel awful.
00:42:43What do you want in these last tempos?
00:42:44I want execution.
00:42:45I want execution, and I want to get my guys in a rhythm.
00:42:49So I think that's why the tempo, in a lot of cases,
00:42:51that just helps guys get going quickly, maybe less thinking,
00:42:56and more just reacting or, in fact, being proactive.
00:42:59Here's Khalil Herbert.
00:43:04He'll get the carry and take it into Patriots territory.
00:43:06I think also for a quarterback, a lot of times it just promotes more of kind of a rhythm,
00:43:12getting the ball on the perimeter, you know, trying to get in playmaker's hands,
00:43:16maybe catching the defense a little bit off balance.
00:43:18You find that you get more space.
00:43:19If defenders are kind of in a rush to get lined up, you know,
00:43:23they're always going to err on the safe side of, hey, playing a little bit softer.
00:43:28A lot of times with tempo, they feel like, hey, something's up.
00:43:30You know, they're trying to get a big play on us,
00:43:33so typically you'll get them playing a little bit softer.
00:43:35Second and six.
00:43:40Fake to Herbert.
00:43:41Roll out for Cook.
00:43:42Nice throw on the move as he finds Mechie.
00:43:45That's a first down.
00:43:46Inside the 30-yard line of New England.
00:43:49It's a good-looking throw on the move to his left for Brady Cook, the right-hander.
00:43:53Yeah, it's hard to do.
00:43:54They always tell you, young quarterbacks, as you go to the left,
00:43:58point, try to get your shoulder pointed at the target,
00:44:00so you really have to bring that left shoulder around, almost exaggerate it.
00:44:04That's going to allow you to be more accurate and keep the ball out front.
00:44:08But it's that kind of element to the offense that I really like.
00:44:11I think that Brady Cook is well-suited for the bootleg game.
00:44:14It helps move the pocket.
00:44:16You know, offensive line will tell you it really helps them
00:44:18just in the way that they're able to set
00:44:20and the way it complements the drop-back game.
00:44:23You have to be able to operate from under center,
00:44:25and that's been such a theme I've realized just looking at all the young quarterbacks.
00:44:29Remember how many young guys, 50-plus quarterbacks last year?
00:44:32It was almost 70 quarterbacks started a game a few years ago.
00:44:35These guys are coming from college usually out of the gun,
00:44:37so they have to learn how to play under center.
00:44:39It's funny, in talking with Brady Cook, he said,
00:44:40you know, this is the first time I've gone under center.
00:44:42You know, he was pretty much exclusively shotgunned at Missouri,
00:44:46and he just talked about what a benefit it's been
00:44:49in being able to go under center.
00:44:51Not only is it great for the run game,
00:44:53and it really helps the offensive line lean on the D-line,
00:44:56but it sets up so much of what you do in the play action,
00:44:59which really are your explosive opportunities.
00:45:01And so I just see the league beginning to skew back
00:45:04towards getting quarterbacks under center more.
00:45:08Tight window throw, but grabbed by Jelani Woods.
00:45:11His first touch in a game in three years.
00:45:17Jelani Woods, who has dealt with multiple injuries over the last two seasons,
00:45:21he gets a target, and it's a tough one, but it is a catch.
00:45:24Good to see Jelani Woods back in the mix.
00:45:28That's got to feel good for him.
00:45:29His first grab since the 2022 season.
00:45:33Yeah, and he's that third tight end, and again,
00:45:35just another element that this offense could have.
00:45:38If you begin to develop three tight ends and a jumbo package,
00:45:41it just gives you even more versatility.
00:45:43Well, that's where the league is kind of going towards now, too.
00:45:46It's the pendulum-swinging nature of offense versus defense.
00:45:49Here's some offense.
00:45:51It's a nice run for Wangu down inside the 10-yard line.
00:45:54Brendan Schooler is there with the tackle.
00:45:5716-yard run for Wangu.
00:46:00And I know New England has their backups in the game,
00:46:03but nonetheless, I think watching this drive just gives you a vision
00:46:07for what this Jets offense can look like when it's hitting on all cylinders.
00:46:12You know, it's this shotgun inside zone run game.
00:46:15It's getting on the perimeter with the quarterback.
00:46:18It's the occasional drop back or play action shot.
00:46:21It's mixing the personnel groups.
00:46:24And really, that's, I think, what Tanner Ingstrand,
00:46:27coming from Detroit where he was under Ben Johnson for, you know, three years,
00:46:33that's certainly the capabilities of this offense once you begin to put together
00:46:37the talent pool that hopefully you'll be able to go out and get with the draft,
00:46:40with all those first and second round draft picks and in free agency.
00:46:44You know, they could use another receiver to complement Garrett Wilson.
00:46:47They could use another running back to complement Brees Hall.
00:46:52Offensive line is pretty stout.
00:46:53You've got two first-round tackles in Membu and Fashanu.
00:46:58A really good interior line.
00:47:02You can always get depth there.
00:47:03But then defensively, I think you're thinking secondary.
00:47:05You're thinking pass rusher.
00:47:07But certainly they've got a number of draft picks
00:47:09to be able to address those most-needed areas.
00:47:12Hand-off for Wongu, and he gets wrapped up by Chad Mumma.
00:47:19Playing his second game with the Patriots after he got signed last week.
00:47:24Played in their contest against Baltimore.
00:47:28Braylon Allen should come back healthy.
00:47:30Again, I'll be fascinated to see what the Brees Hall situation is after this year.
00:47:35But their line should be intact.
00:47:37They've got their top two ten ends.
00:47:38They signed Rutford to an extension.
00:47:39Mason Taylor's had a good year.
00:47:41Wilson's a great receiver when he's healthy.
00:47:44We'll see what the draft holds for the Jets.
00:47:48Third down and goal here.
00:47:49Trying to hit the end zone for the second time in this half.
00:47:52That's Rutford in motion.
00:47:55It is a hand-off to Wongu,
00:47:57and it is Anfernee Jennings who steps in and makes the stop.
00:48:02He's getting some run today.
00:48:03No Landry.
00:48:06Fourth and goal.
00:48:09Be nice for Z's Jet Faithful to get another score.
00:48:15Oh, boy.
00:48:16Faithful is the right word, huh?
00:48:18I don't know if there's a fan.
00:48:19If you're still here, you're part of the Faithful.
00:48:21That's it.
00:48:21I don't know if there's a fan base that's more Faithful than the Jets right now.
00:48:26They had some good stuff cooking up in the tailgate.
00:48:29That's right.
00:48:30In the parking lot to start this game.
00:48:32I know that.
00:48:34Fourth down and goal.
00:48:35Four minutes to play.
00:48:37Fans are on their feet.
00:48:38And now they're going to sit back down after multiple flags come flying in.
00:48:45Patriots fans making more noise now.
00:48:48Offense number 66.
00:48:49Five-yard penalty.
00:48:51Fourth down.
00:48:51I listened to Ross Tucker, a good friend of ours, my old broadcast partner.
00:48:55He was doing the Jet Saints game for CBS last week,
00:48:58and he said it very well.
00:49:00I have a lot of respect for Jets fans because they have gone through just years of nothing.
00:49:09I mean, they have the longest playoff drought.
00:49:12You know, haven't gone since that 2010 season.
00:49:14Fifteen years.
00:49:15It's been a long time.
00:49:17It's roster construction never seems right.
00:49:21They can't seem to get the quarterback position right.
00:49:23It's been a rough go.
00:49:24They are faithful in this town.
00:49:26Brady Cook, end zone, looking for a record.
00:49:29Incomplete.
00:49:29No flag.
00:49:32Del Pettison coverage that time on the young tight end.
00:49:37Marte Mapu brought some heat.
00:49:39And the look on that man's face says a lot.
00:49:41Yeah, look at this here.
00:49:42They brought the house.
00:49:44So you basically cover zero.
00:49:45You're just trying to find your best matchup and give them a chance.
00:49:49Just left the throw a little bit too wide.
00:49:51That seems like a very common reaction.
00:49:57So close.
00:49:59But I'd say this.
00:50:01In every player we talk to in talking about Aaron Glenn, with just how much respect they have for him.
00:50:09Not just his playing career, but every guy who's ever played for him.
00:50:13He cares so much about his players.
00:50:15He has a vision for this program and what this team can be.
00:50:21And he has said time after time, trust the process.
00:50:24Trust the process.
00:50:26I have a vision.
00:50:27And look, ownership is bought in.
00:50:29Leadership is bought in there.
00:50:30And I think that they're all believing that they can turn this thing around.
00:50:35And they're hoping for something like this in the next couple of years.
00:50:37Because these three first-year head coaches had really good years, right?
00:50:41Liam Cohen comes in.
00:50:42Ben Johnson.
00:50:43And now what Vrabel is doing after Gerard Mayo's one-year campaign last year.
00:50:48There's models in the NFL for teams that did not have good years.
00:50:52They won four games last year, New England did.
00:50:55And they got the right quarterback.
00:50:57They got the right guy to step in as the head coach, Mike Vrabel.
00:51:01KP has got to be one of the candidates, one of the three or four guys right at the top of the list for coach of the year.
00:51:05Absolutely.
00:51:05And, you know, so many coaches come in and say, look, we want to compete for a championship.
00:51:10But Mike Vrabel lived it, a three-time Super Bowl champion with this franchise.
00:51:14I asked him, does that give you a heightened awareness?
00:51:16He said, no, but what it does is it gives you the blueprint.
00:51:19We've got six banners hanging in our stadium.
00:51:22He said, we know how to achieve success, but we don't want to compare ourselves to anything or anyone.
00:51:28So I was trying to find the elements that work for other teams that fit your group.
00:51:33I think Mike's done a very good job of that in his years in Tennessee, and certainly it seems to be the case this year.
00:51:39Josh Dobbs looking for Williams.
00:51:41He made the grab, but he was out of bounds.
00:51:44Just here, Taylor had the covers.
00:51:45Look at Drake May politicking the line, Josh.
00:51:48I mean, he dropped the coat and everything to lobby for that.
00:51:54Boy, what a throw.
00:51:56And catch.
00:51:59Look at Drake.
00:52:00Drake May was yelling at him.
00:52:01No, no, no.
00:52:02He was in bounds.
00:52:03Clearly out of bounds.
00:52:04He's got Will Get Better Soon Campbell there, too.
00:52:08That's right.
00:52:09He's a young offensive lineman that went to IR last month.
00:52:14Maybe the sourdough cinnamon rolls that Ann Michael May made during Baked Miss.
00:52:19I was a little disappointed.
00:52:20We didn't get any of that in the production meeting yesterday.
00:52:22I thought Drake would try to butter this up a little bit and bring some goodies.
00:52:30Carissa Thompson, we're talking baked goods.
00:52:32What do you got coming up for us next?
00:52:34Well, I'm talking about a game that I know Pats fans will be watching closely because of that AFC East crown.
00:52:39Eagles already clinched the NFC East, and they're on the road in Buffalo looking to extend their winning streak to three.
00:52:44But Josh Allen and the Bills at home, of course, wanting that division crown, but also that number one seat in the AFC.
00:52:51It's all coming up next, and it's America's Game of the Week.
00:52:55Adam, you love baked goods.
00:52:57You know I do, man.
00:52:58I love a cookie, a brownie guy.
00:53:00I certainly would have loved a sourdough cinnamon roll, but none doing this time around.
00:53:05You see the standings again.
00:53:07If the Eagles beat the Bills today, Patriots win the AFC East.
00:53:12That's the simple formula for this afternoon.
00:53:15Isaiah Williams makes the catch.
00:53:18Tackled by Tavai.
00:53:19And Patriots fans will hear their former quarterback, Tom Brady, with Kevin Burkhardt, Aaron Andrews, Tom Rinaldi.
00:53:27They're all coming up on the call for America's Game of the Week across the country.
00:53:32Second down, Brady Cook.
00:53:36He'll toss it ahead.
00:53:37He'll avoid the sack, throw it out of bounds.
00:53:39Although Vrabel, I think, is going to politic as well, saying that he had stepped out.
00:53:43But still the second shy of the two-minute warning.
00:53:48Oh, boy.
00:53:49The bags are out again.
00:53:53At some point, if you're a Jet fan with a bag on their head, you turn to your friend and said,
00:53:59is now the time for the bags?
00:54:02When do you bust out the bag is the question that I have,
00:54:05because it seems to be a philosophical conversation more than anything else.
00:54:18Blitz coming.
00:54:20Cook off the back foot.
00:54:24Incomplete.
00:54:24It was Marte Mapu battling with Stone Smart for a potential interception.
00:54:30Instead, neither guy comes out with it.
00:54:31It's fourth down.
00:54:33It's the two-minute warning, and it's the Patriots with their 13th win coming
00:54:38and a step closer to the AFC East title.
00:54:42One of those fans is happier than the other based on the result today.
00:54:47That's going to be a tough ride home.
00:54:49It's been a lot of tough rides home when these two teams have met for Jets fans.
00:54:54Meanwhile, Drake May, five-touchdown day, has not played since midway through the third.
00:55:02Joshua Dobbs the rest of the way.
00:55:04Dominant performance in the first half by New England.
00:55:08Brady Cook.
00:55:10Nice connection.
00:55:11That's Stone Smart.
00:55:12It's the first down inside the 40.
00:55:15Again, America's Game of the Week.
00:55:16It'll be Bills and Eagles.
00:55:18Patriots did their part,
00:55:20and they will await the result of that contest.
00:55:25If Philly beats Buffalo, it'll be the Patriots winning the AFC East.
00:55:30Cook.
00:55:31Oh, man.
00:55:32Mitchell kind of looked down to see where his feet were.
00:55:35I'm sure he wanted to be in bounds,
00:55:36but then by the time he looked back up, that ball was coming towards him.
00:55:39Yeah, we, the lights just, lights came on here.
00:55:43The Meadowlands, too, so it looks like he might have just lost it for a second.
00:55:49Good anticipation by Brady Cook.
00:55:53Yeah, his eyes went high and just lost it for a moment.
00:55:56Getting to that time of the night, time of the late day.
00:56:02It's been an overcast day most of this day, too.
00:56:06Second down with 90 seconds left.
00:56:08Brady Cook and a catch made by Mechie.
00:56:12You saw a diving Charles Woods try to get in there,
00:56:16and then Woods is limping a little bit.
00:56:17He grabbed at his hip after all that.
00:56:22Now, let's watch this.
00:56:23This is cover zero, so the ball has to come out.
00:56:25You got one free rusher.
00:56:26Man, no way to thread it in there, young fella.
00:56:31Well, just off the fingertips of Charles Woods.
00:56:37See him kind of reaching towards the hip or back area after that play.
00:56:4118-yard pickup for John Mechie.
00:56:46There he is, the Taiwanese-born receiver in motion.
00:56:50Brady Cook over the middle, and catch made by Rucker.
00:56:54He got hit immediately, though, by Marte Mapu.
00:57:0370 seconds left.
00:57:04Catch made by Herbert.
00:57:13No, it wasn't.
00:57:14Dropped.
00:57:14Incomplete.
00:57:16Going to bring up third down.
00:57:17I like the operation here.
00:57:22I feel like, honestly, this tempo has Brady Cook playing with a lot more urgency.
00:57:27I think sometimes when you just huddle time after time, it just becomes a bit monotonous,
00:57:32and it's a little bit harder to get things going, which is certainly what you felt in the first half.
00:57:37And, obviously, they went to tempo more out of necessity in the second half,
00:57:41but I always feel like that's something that just helps spark an offense.
00:57:45You hear this kill package change in place here at the line of scrimmage.
00:57:53Facing a blitz, Cook throws, and incomplete.
00:57:57Mitchell was the intended target.
00:58:00So, Miles battle in the mix.
00:58:02And, Elijah Ponder, playing his first NFL game, number 91, he brought some pressure that time
00:58:10and put a hit on his fellow undrafted rookie.
00:58:14A lot of times what they tell you up front in those cover zero or full blitz looks
00:58:19is try to just take care of the interior, and if you're going to let somebody free,
00:58:24then let them come free on the outside.
00:58:26We always said as a quarterback, the guy who has to take the most number of steps to hit you,
00:58:30let's let that guy free.
00:58:32It gives you a little extra count to be able to deliver that ball down the field.
00:58:37Fourth down for Cook.
00:58:40Over the middle, short of the sticks, and the tackle made on Tyler Johnson
00:58:44by this New England crew, and that'll do it for the day.
00:58:52Tough day for Aaron Glenn and the Jets.
00:58:55A very impressive performance from Drake May.
00:58:58In two and a half quarters, he threw five touchdowns.
00:59:01Yeah, and all five of those touchdowns were against man coverage.
00:59:04He was 9 of 9 for 113 yards and five touchdowns against man coverage today.
00:59:11Some of it was just nice and smooth dropping back in the pocket,
00:59:15but there was a lot of movement as well.
00:59:17That's an element to his game that is just so unique
00:59:20and allows this offense to be so explosive.
00:59:22Wow.
00:59:26You've got to go back to Lynn Dickey in the early 1980s
00:59:31for a player to have five-plus touchdown passes
00:59:34and complete 90% of his passes.
00:59:3719 for 21.
00:59:41Better than 90%.
00:59:42256.
00:59:43The five touchdowns to five different receivers.
00:59:46And Mike Vrabel,
00:59:49they take their step.
00:59:54They will clinch the East if the Bills lose.
