00:00ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:30He told us their commitment to the run has really opened up things offensively
00:33and slowed things down a bit for Cam Ward.
00:36The Titans are now averaging 27 points per game during this stretch,
00:40facing a Saints defense that has been allowing 126 yards on the ground per game.
00:45And Mike McCoy, of course, doubled down, saying,
00:47of course they're going to be committed to the run today,
00:49and they're hoping that momentum will carry them to another win, guys.
00:53And A.J. will see that Tennessee offense on the field first
00:56because the Saints won the coin toss,
00:58and they have elected to defer.
01:01So Cam Ward getting his teammates fired up for this Week 17 matchup against the Saints.
01:08Tim Ray Dike named to the Pro Bowl earlier this week.
01:12The rookie fourth-rounder out of Florida is back deep,
01:16and he needs just 49 all-purpose yards today
01:19to pass Tim Brown for the all-time rookie record.
01:30Tennessee has won two of its last three.
01:33New Orleans has won three in a row for the first time in three years.
01:37And we're underway on CBS.
01:39And this one over Dike's head, out of the end zone for a touchback.
01:46So here comes Cam Ward, who has thrown two touchdown passes
01:49in each of the last three games
01:52and feeling a lot more comfortable in this Tennessee offense.
01:55And a lot of that reason has to do with A.J. just talked about in her report.
02:00They've been able to run the football.
02:03Mike McCoy told us 30-plus touches to those running backs.
02:06It slows the game down, and it allows Cam Ward to go out there and operate
02:10and not have to be so good on each and every play throughout the game.
02:14It also helps the offensive line, calms things down with pass rushers.
02:17It's no accident that Cam Ward's only been sacked three times
02:20in the last three games with the increase in the run production.
02:24Here is Tony Pollard on first down across the 40.
02:28And he picks up eight yards.
02:31Chase Young on the tackle.
02:33And Young and Cameron Jordan are two guys to keep an eye on today
02:37for that New Orleans defense.
02:39Both are playing very well.
02:41Jordan, six sacks in his last six games.
02:44And Chase Young has seven sacks in ten games.
02:46Sorry about that, Andrew.
02:47Had a chance to talk with Cam Jordan before the ball game.
02:49You know the first thing you said to me, guys?
02:52So now Tennessee wants to be a run first team.
02:55Defensive end on a roll, six sacks in his last six games.
02:59He's like, now I've got to play run defense all day.
03:04They run it again with Pollard trying to left side this time.
03:07Pollard picks up the first down.
03:11Pete Werner on the tackle for New Orleans.
03:13We keep talking about this Tennessee run game.
03:20And Mike McCoy, the interim head coach, stressed it from the time he took over as the head coach.
03:26Really kicked it into gear around the time they played Cleveland.
03:30Pollard goes for 161 that day.
03:32But for him, it's a number of runs.
03:35He wants to see 35 to 40 runs.
03:37He feels like if he does that, his offense will perk very well during the game.
03:42Third straight run.
03:44Pollard back to the right side.
03:45And he's going to get to the 49-yard line.
03:48Pollard has rushed for 100 yards, as A.J. told us, in three consecutive games.
03:52That's a career-long streak.
03:55For the seventh-year man out of Memphis.
03:58And for the defense, when you're going against an offense like this,
04:00and they're putting two tight ends on the field, and they're running directly at you,
04:03those guys in the secondary, got to continue to be on your toes and wait for that play-action pass to go
04:09because you know at some point you're going to dial that up and want to take a shot down the field.
04:18Second down and seven.
04:19Pollard.
04:21And Pollard is thrown down by John Ridgway, the fourth-year man out of Arkansas.
04:27A gain of two.
04:29We mentioned that both of these teams have combined 5-1 in December.
04:33And after a rough start on both sides, Saints beginning 2-10, Tennessee 1-11.
04:39You can see what they've done here this month for New Orleans.
04:43They're trying to complete an undefeated December for just the third time in franchise history.
04:57Third down and five.
04:58And Cam Ward looking to throw for the first time today along the sideline incomplete.
05:05In the direction of Ellick-Io Manor, and on fourth down, Tennessee will send out its punt team.
05:12And there was some space to get that throw in there, and the New Orleans Saints were showing pressure
05:16and then dropped out and only rushed four.
05:19Cam Ward trying to get it on the sideline.
05:21Throws that in anticipation, trying to get his receiver on the outside, I-O Manor,
05:26and just loses that one.
05:28Just throws it out of bounds there.
05:29That's just a miss, right?
05:30Yeah.
05:30That's just a miss by the quarterback because everything you described was on point.
05:34He had the anticipation.
05:35Ball was in the air before the break.
05:37If he just puts it in there as he normally does, that completion is there.
05:41Johnny Hecker trying to pin New Orleans deep with Pettis, the return man.
05:47This one down by the one.
05:49And Tennessee cannot save it.
05:52It was Micah Robinson, the first one down the field for the Titans,
05:57and he was not able to keep it from going out of the end zone.
06:03And it will be New Orleans' ball at the 20.
06:12The NFL on CBS is sponsored by KFC.
06:17Wings and wedges are back at KFC.
06:20Lowe's, tackle your to-do list early with Lowe's to earn your Sunday.
06:26And by State Farm, like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
06:35Broadway always buzzing in Nashville.
06:38So we welcome you back to Tennessee,
06:41and it will be the first drive for the Saints offense,
06:43led by Tyler Shuck, who threw for 308 yards a week ago
06:48in the win over the Jets.
06:49That was the most by a rookie in franchise history.
06:53And look who's at tailback.
06:55Taysom Hill starting at tailback as Alvin Kamara is out his fifth straight game,
07:00and Hill is met by Cedric Gregg,
07:04who did not play a week ago because of a concussion.
07:08Back in the lineup for the Tennessee defense.
07:11And there is Taysom Hill with an injured Titan down.
07:17It's actually a Saint who was slow to get up.
07:20It's Jack Stoll, the tight end.
07:22But you see what Hill has done in his impressive career now at the age of 35.
07:27And New Orleans struggling with tight ends to begin with.
07:32Foster Moreau, who was hurt to begin the season, came back, hurt again last week, now on IR.
07:38Stoll goes out.
07:39Juwan Johnson after that.
07:41Matavao out of UCLA, and they brought up Trayton Welch out of Wyoming to fill out the ranks.
07:46Tyler Shuck over the middle, and it's the first NFL catch for Maliki Matavao.
07:55Seventh-round pick out of UCLA, who was just signed off the practice squad on Friday.
08:02Tennessee was trying to substitute on defense, but the Saints quickly back to the line of scrimmage.
08:07Kept the original unit out there for the Titans.
08:09Third down and five.
08:10Shuck hit and sacked.
08:13And the ball comes out.
08:16Jeffrey Simmons had the contact, and Tennessee has it.
08:23Jeffrey Simmons continues his incredible season, knocking the football free, and the Titans take over.
08:32Jeffrey Simmons has just been dominant this year.
08:35Mike McCoy said if they had won more games, his name would be in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year.
08:41A quick inside move here.
08:43He comes right down the middle for Tyler Shuck, and he doesn't have a chance to look down the field.
08:48But it's what he does with his hands.
08:50Swiping and going directly after the football.
08:52A huge play to start this game for their superstar defensive tackle.
08:56And remember, William Sherman, number 66, is the right guard for the injured Cesar Ruiz.
09:02Normally a starter.
09:03It looks like Jalen Armour Davis down for Tennessee.
09:05But he just took advantage of Sherman, his inexperience, and look at him as they pick up the football.
09:11But then instead of just going down with it, he tries to do something with it.
09:16Luke Fortner, the center, gets popped again.
09:19Ball comes free.
09:21And I believe Tennessee ends up with it.
09:22All right, a lot to sort out here.
09:32It is Saints' ball.
09:34They recovered that fumble, even though the initial indication pointed to Tennessee having it.
09:39So it is fourth down.
09:41New Orleans will punt.
09:43Jalen Armour Davis just left on a cart.
09:45We'll get you an injury update as soon as we have one.
09:48And we'll show you this recovery by Luke Fortner in just a moment.
09:52But first, it's Kai Kroger punting to DK.
09:59Kroger gets underneath this one, and it's a brutal punt.
10:03Almost goes into the stance.
10:06So Tennessee will have excellent field position after Kroger just belted that one sky high,
10:13and it didn't go anywhere.
10:15Now let's go back to the third down play.
10:17You can see Simmons coming in, forcing the fumble.
10:20Luke Fortner, the center, the ball's right by his feet.
10:23He picks it up.
10:24And now he's tackled by Arden Key.
10:27But Fortner is able to hold on to the ball, going to the ground.
10:33And that's why it was fourth down for the Saints.
10:36Despite the indicator that Tennessee had the ball.
10:39Yes.
10:39But he picked that one up.
10:41Did that give you guys shades of Zach Sharpen?
10:43Yes.
10:44Picking up a two-point conversion in Seattle and somewhere Sean McVay's like,
10:48that place still shouldn't have counted.
10:50No doubt it had shades of that after a 17-yard punt.
10:55Tennessee takes over at the New Orleans 35-yard line.
10:59And on first down, it's play action.
11:04Ward, plenty of time.
11:07Now the pressure's coming.
11:09He gets rid of it to Pollard.
11:10Pollard changes direction.
11:13Pollard loses a half yard on the play.
11:16Elante Taylor on the tackle.
11:17Guys, I think Tennessee wanted a shot play on that one.
11:21Jason, do you notice how they lined up?
11:23Chico Quonquo, the tight end, was lined up at fullback.
11:27And he didn't go out to block.
11:28He tried to leap through the line of scrimmage to get downfield.
11:31He had hoped to get lost in coverage.
11:33And Tennessee would have a big play.
11:35But the Saints picked it up and turned it into a decent defensive play for themselves.
11:39Second down and 10.
11:47Ward, quick pass.
11:49Saw a lot of that last week as Okonkwo was tackled near the sideline by Sanker.
11:55A three-yard pickup makes it third down.
11:57Yeah, they've gone to that a lot with Okonkwo and also Tajay Spears when he comes in the game
12:02as that quick outlet to get the ball to the outside.
12:06Tajay Spears being the guy that moves around.
12:09And it's RPO, run-pass option.
12:11You have the option to hand that football off or get it to the outside if you have the numbers there.
12:16And Cam Ward is his decision at the line of scrimmage.
12:18And third down now, guys, in the Saints.
12:20Fourth in the league and third down defense.
12:23Brandon Staley's troop steadily improving.
12:25Showing you a lot of looks and locking people down on this important down.
12:31DK in motion.
12:32Ward over the middle, incomplete.
12:35Well, he's trying to squeeze one in to DK.
12:37And on fourth down, Mike McCoy will send out his field goal unit.
12:43Jason, they don't make it easy to squeeze one in, do they?
12:46They don't.
12:46And when you talk about being really good on third down defense, it starts up front.
12:51When you have guys like Cam Jordan, you have guys like Chase Young.
12:53It makes it easier for Sanko, Damari, Davis, those guys in the back end,
12:57to be able to close those windows knowing the quarterback isn't going to be able to hold on to the football.
13:02This will be a 50-yard field goal attempt for Joey Sly.
13:07Out of the hold of Johnny Hecker.
13:14And Sly's kick is good.
13:18So, a 17-yard punt leads to three points for Tennessee.
13:26For Sly, he has now set a franchise record with his eighth field goal of 50 yards or longer this year.
13:33The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Verizon, the best 5G network.
13:47There's only one best.
13:50And by Uber Eats.
13:51When football makes you hungry, order Uber Eats.
13:55Second meeting in just over one year for Cam Ward and Tyler Shuck.
14:04They played in October of 2024 with Ward's Miami Hurricanes beating Shuck's Louisville Cardinals 52-45.
14:14They both had 300 yards passing and four touchdowns.
14:20And now they meet again here in December in the NFL.
14:22And I think they crossed paths at another school as well, right?
14:26Oregon for Tyler Shuck and Washington State for Cam Ward.
14:33They both made the rounds when they were in college.
14:35They saw the country.
14:37Wouldn't be mad for 300 yards and four touchdowns in this one today from both of those guys.
14:42Yeah.
14:43We've mentioned the wind.
14:45And Johnny Hecker has come out to hold for the kickoff for Joey Sly,
14:50who just passed Stephen Gostowski for the most 50-yard field goals made in a season in Tennessee history.
14:58And this one will go into the end zone.
15:01And it will be a touchback.
15:02We're going to go back to New York.
15:04NFL Today update with Adam Schein.
15:06Andrew, the Bucs strike first.
15:08Baker Mayfield.
15:09Patris Gadwin.
15:10Cabin, a 14-play drive for Tampa.
15:127-0.
15:13Buccaneers.
15:14No, the first.
15:15Back to you.
15:15All right, Adam.
15:18Obviously, Tampa Bay.
15:19We've got a Bucs fan here trying to make that Week 18 game relevant against the Carolina Panthers.
15:27Good number of games out there today, guys, where teams have to have it today.
15:32No vips, hands, or butts if they want to stay alive in the race for a playoff spot or a higher seed.
15:38So, with Jalen Armour-Davis being carted off, Kair Elam has come in to take his spot at corner.
15:45Shuck to a wide-open man.
15:47It's Kevin Austin.
15:49Austin inside the 30 and finally brought down on the play by Amani Hooker.
15:55But a 37-yard pickup for Austin.
15:58As you talk about Armour-Davis going off the field, they're going to run zone.
16:02And he's going to come here, take a hit post right here.
16:04And now you get the wheel route on the outside.
16:07And now for Tyler Shuck, you're able to let it all operate and get the ball on the outside.
16:12Saints going quickly.
16:13This is Estime.
16:15And Audrick Estime keeps the drive rolling.
16:19Second-year running back out of Notre Dame.
16:22He's a fifth-round pick of the Denver Broncos.
16:25And just Denver worked for him there.
16:26He was on the Eagles practice squad.
16:28And the Saints went and got him with the number of injuries they had at the running back position.
16:32He's up at the top of your screen on second down and eight.
16:38Shuck steps up.
16:40He's going to run.
16:41And that will bring up third down.
16:43Now with the Saints last night, and obviously we've seen them use tempo a lot this year.
16:48Second most no-huddle plays in the NFL behind Washington.
16:51And as Taysom Hill told us, tempo is Kellen Moore's curveball.
16:57And he likes to throw it a lot.
17:00Prevents the defense from substituting.
17:02We've already seen it a few times here in the opening quarter.
17:07Third down and six.
17:09Shuck looking left.
17:10Now taking a deep shot.
17:12Miscommunication with Austin.
17:14And it's incomplete.
17:16That felt like a stutter and go.
17:17And the receiver broke it off to an out.
17:21Did you watch Shuck in the pocket?
17:23He gave the shoulder shrug, which is normally, here's the fake.
17:27And he's thinking he's going to stutter and then go upfield.
17:30And Austin cuts it short.
17:32And Shuck throws it to the post, excuse me, to the pylon like it's going to be a deep ball.
17:36So now Charlie Smith, playing in his fifth NFL game, the native of Northern Ireland, comes out to attempt a 43-yard field goal.
17:50Smith's kick.
17:52Leaning left is no good.
17:54And such a wonderful story since joining the active roster.
18:02But Charlie Smith not able to convert here.
18:06And Tennessee remains ahead 3-0.
18:08Welcome back to Nissan Stadium, where the Titans lead the Saints 3-0.
18:19On Monday, Titans tackle J.C. Latham invited a local family to an afternoon of holiday shopping.
18:25Kayla Sweeney, a mother of eight, and two of her daughters shopped alongside Latham for holiday gifts
18:29and other essentials for themselves and their family.
18:32The Sweeney family experienced a time of hardship leading up to the holidays
18:35and reconnected with Latham through the Tennessee Titans Foundation
18:39to provide some relief and bring holiday cheer.
18:43All right, A.J., thank you very much.
18:45And we do have an injury update from the Tennessee sideline.
18:49Jalen Armour-Davis, the corner, has been ruled out for the rest of the game with an Achilles injury.
18:55So they will not have Armour-Davis.
18:57Still waiting for an update about Jack Stoll, who we saw leave on a cart for the Saints.
19:03After the missed field goal, Tennessee takes over, and they give it to Tony Pollard on first down.
19:09Pollard gets to the 36-yard line, a gain of three.
19:20Titans are staying in the jumbo package.
19:22They bring 72 Udo in the game, and he'll line up as if he's a tight end.
19:27And they do that to try to run the ball.
19:29They've had a lot of success, handing it off to Tony Pollard, going downhill with Cam Ward under center.
19:42Second and seven.
19:44Ward is looking deep.
19:46Now he's going to try to keep it himself.
19:48And he slides down a couple yards shy of a first.
19:51I just met with Cam Ward earlier this week, and he thought that there was going to be opportunities in the play-action game to check it down to the running backs.
20:00And we've seen him look that way a couple of times, and this time just decides to keep it.
20:05We call that a completion game, McCoy said, where you've got to take what this defense gives you.
20:10Brandon Staley, their defensive coordinator, he'll mix looks up and try to make it challenging for the quarterback.
20:16So just take it what's there and live to see that next down.
20:19Now you end up in a third and short, which gives you a great opportunity.
20:28Ward looking deep down the field for D.K.
20:31He's got him!
20:34D.K. to the 20-yard line at gain of 38.
20:37So we know all about Jim Ray D.K.'s return ability, but he keeps improving as a receiver.
20:47And they're running him out of the slot a lot, where his size and his speed gets him down the middle of the field and really puts stress and pressure on the defense.
20:55And he gets in front of Jonas Sankar, the outstanding rookie safety for the New Orleans Saints.
21:00And what a well-thrown ball by Cam Ward.
21:03And by the way, I just like that pass protection.
21:06Excellent in front of him.
21:07D.K.'s return ability.
21:09Pollard, trying to get to the outside, lost his footing, and picks up a yard on the play.
21:18Look at these rookies that Tennessee features for Cam Ward to throw to.
21:24You've got D.K. who's named to the Pro Bowl.
21:26Isle Manor, three touchdowns this season.
21:30And Gunnar Helm has done a nice job, the rookie tight end.
21:33And there's a lot of optimism with the way these rookies have competed, especially after all the losses mounted up for Tennessee.
21:39And their new GM, Mike Braganzi, got to be thrilled with what they called in the fourth round.
21:44Every one of those players, a fourth-round pick.
21:47Second down.
21:52Ward, again, great protection.
21:54Now bounces outside.
21:56Pressure's coming.
21:57Ward in some trouble.
21:58Ball comes out.
21:59It's free on the ground.
22:01And now they're saying no, incompletes.
22:08John Ridgway was applying the pressure on Cam Ward.
22:12And for a moment, it looked like it might have been a fumble.
22:16But they're saying Ward was able to throw that one.
22:19And that's the incomplete pass off the head of Kevin Zeitler.
22:23And, Charles, those are the plays we haven't seen as much of from Cam Ward as of late over the last three weeks
22:29where he's just throwing that ball away, where he hasn't tried to do too much.
22:33And that was an example that almost went wrong of him just trying to make something out of nothing.
22:37But you've just got to throw that one away.
22:42So it's third down and ten.
22:47Here comes Chase Young.
22:49Ward on the move, and he throws this one away.
22:52Escorted out by Young and Carl Granderson.
22:55And on fourth down, Tennessee will attempt a field goal.
22:59Jason Hughes made the point about things we haven't seen from Cam Ward, which means that's growth, right?
23:04We've seen him develop as a quarterback.
23:05I think the next step for him is he loves to extend plays in order to throw it.
23:10But the next step is occasionally go ahead and go.
23:13Yeah.
23:13Because that will help his offense as well, and it will hurt the defense some, too.
23:18When they realize he's never going to go, they stay in coverage longer.
23:21Every now and then, take off and hot-foot it around the corner and pick up a few extra yards.
23:26But Sly back out, this one from 38 yards away.
23:31Joey Sly is two for two.
23:35With 4.31 to go in the first quarter, Tennessee has kicked a couple of field goals, and they lead it 6-0 on CBS.
23:426-0 Tennessee in front.
23:51Hollywood's biggest party is now bigger than ever, with more stars, more glamour, and more chaos.
23:57Nikki Glaser hosts the Golden Globes, live CBS January 11th and streaming on Paramount+.
24:04Well, it's been a rough first quarter so far for the Saints.
24:09Early on, Tyler Shuck sacked by Jeffrey Simmons, loses the ball, fortunate to get it back to be able to punt.
24:15That punt only went 17 yards.
24:17Trying to keep it away from Tim Ray Dike, gave the Titans great field possession.
24:22Then later on, Smith misses the field goal, and that's why the Saints still with Donut on the scoreboard.
24:28Well, he did keep it away from Dike.
24:30He did do that.
24:31Pettis backtracking, and it will be a touchback.
24:36An injury update for New Orleans.
24:38Jack Stoll out the rest of the game with a knee injury.
24:43And back to those Saints miscues.
24:45You look at how they've fared in the first quarter of games this year.
24:49A point differential of minus 80.
24:52They've only scored 29 points in the first quarters this year.
24:57That point differential is the worst in the NFL.
25:00What I'm eager to watch as this game unfolds is how are the Saints going to fashion offense
25:04when your running game has been totally depleted.
25:08You're almost out of running backs.
25:09The guys you have running the football outside of Taysom Hill just joined your team a few weeks ago.
25:15And you have an offensive line that's beat up with a number of guys who are in there
25:18that weren't your starters to begin with.
25:20How do you keep this Tennessee pass rush off of Tyler Shuck?
25:23Here's Chris Olave, who takes a big shot.
25:27That was Kendall Brooks with the hit on Olave, who was questionable to play today with a back injury.
25:35And we may see a little bit more of this, CD, because for this Saints offense,
25:39we saw it a week ago against the Jets as we see this big hit on Chris Olave
25:43where they went spread and they put the ball in Tyler Shuck's hands,
25:46and a lot of it was the quick pass game that kind of supplemented the missing running game,
25:51those quick passes where he's getting it out quick and he doesn't allow this pass rush of the Titans,
25:56which is really good, anchored by Jeffrey Simmons, a really good after.
25:59Taysom Hill in that running back.
26:04And he takes the handoff here, and Hill is met behind the line of scrimmage.
26:12That'll bring up third down, but first we go back to New York for an NFL Today update with Adam Schein.
26:17Andrew, how about this?
26:18The Colts have jumped all over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
26:2110-0 ending after the Jonathan Taylor touchdown, capping a 15-play, 83-yard drive.
26:28The Jags' biggest deficit since week seven.
26:32Back to you.
26:33Wow.
26:33Colts eliminated, but playing hard against division rival Jacksonville.
26:40Third down and eight.
26:41Shuck, pressure coming, steps up, ball up for grabs.
26:52It's caught by Austin, who's taken down by Cody Barton.
26:56Well short of a first down, and this Tennessee defense has come out flying here today.
27:01How about the coordination on it?
27:03The pass rush pressure was very quick on Tyler Shuck.
27:07He had to find a way to escape and ends up having to lollipop one out of there.
27:11You see right there going right past it, made him pull it down and pull it back up.
27:15That was Keemont Hall, the nickelback.
27:18And then he gets it to Austin, and how about the closing right there?
27:21Cody Barton in excellent coverage position, closes quickly and puts Austin on the deck.
27:26Third on the team in tackles this year, Cody Barton.
27:30As Kroger comes out, last time a 17-yard punt.
27:35DK, the deep man.
27:37Kroger, a little bit better this time.
27:41DK, a lot of contact.
27:44That was his own man, though.
27:45And then Taysom Hill is the one who downs it at the 36-yard line.
27:502.06 to go in the first.
27:52Take another look at DK colliding with his own man.
28:02He just controlled him right into him, didn't he, Jason?
28:05He's a great job by Michael Davis, the gunner, right there for the New Orleans Saints.
28:09You're always taught.
28:10If you can't get off, you can't get to him.
28:11As you see, he's being looked at on the sideline right now.
28:14Michael Davis does an excellent job running his guy into the returner.
28:18Oh, Cam Ward back out.
28:27First down and 10 from the 36.
28:36Ward in the shotgun with Tajay Spears to his right.
28:41Quick pass is caught by Van Jefferson.
28:44Jefferson wasn't down.
28:45He rolled over to the defender and got an extra yard out of him inside two minutes to go.
28:50We met with Cam Ward, who told us that he is a big Christmas guy.
28:56His favorite time of year, very particular about the Christmas tree.
29:01He said he decorated it all by himself, had people come over the house.
29:04They were very impressed with his decorating skills.
29:07And how about the gifts he gave his own linemen?
29:09Wallets, Nintendo Switch, and airline gift cards.
29:13So the rookie getting the job done, Christmas time.
29:16It's a nice showing for a rookie quarterback right out of the gate.
29:18He didn't skimp on anything.
29:20And he did indicate if things keep getting better, the gifts will, too.
29:25There's Spears.
29:27And that'll make it a third down.
29:30See, my major takeaway was he said his tree was decorated so good that when people came over,
29:35they asked did he have a designer come in and do it.
29:36He was a little offended by that.
29:37We need Cam to post this tree.
29:39We need everybody else to be able to get their own opinion on.
29:42But you hear him, though.
29:43He said, you know, people ask me if someone else did.
29:44No, I decorated it.
29:48But you go back to the gifts.
29:50When the sacks go down, the gifts go up.
29:52Makes sense.
29:53And that's going to happen as time goes on, as Tennessee continues to fortify their roster.
29:59Looking at a third down and one here.
30:01Tennessee, one for four on third down so far.
30:07They pick up the first down on the ground.
30:10That was Kalel Mullins, the rookie out of Michigan, picking up five yards.
30:15And that's what they drafted him for.
30:19Sixth rounder out of Van Arbor.
30:21You can always count on Sundays right through the AFC Championship with the NFL on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
30:28There's Bo Hardigree, the offensive play caller, who took over the play calling duties after week three.
30:36And Brandon Staley, who's done a very nice job in his first year with the Saints.
30:41And that's going to be the final play of the first quarter.
30:46Two Joey Sly field goals account for the points so far at the end of one.
30:51Tennessee, six.
30:53New Orleans, nothing on CBS.
30:58Back in Nashville, where Jeffrey Simmons and Chimre Dike were named to the Pro Bowl earlier this week.
31:10Simmons now, after that play early in the first quarter, 10 sacks, 20 quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles this season.
31:18One of only five players to accomplish that.
31:21About for both of them.
31:23Both named as starters.
31:24Dike is a return specialist.
31:26Simmons on the defensive line.
31:30Start of the second quarter.
31:31Play action for Cam Ward.
31:33Steps up.
31:33He's going to run it again into Saints territory.
31:36Ball came out late, but they're saying he was down.
31:39Gave himself up.
31:41Danny Stutzman was forcing Ward to go to the ground.
31:45This is exactly what I was talking about the last series.
31:50Every now and then, if he goes ahead and takes off himself, and yes, the ground caused a fumble, so there will be no turnover there.
31:57Pick up a few yards.
31:58Make the defense aware that you may go.
32:00Could help you loosen things up coverage-wise for some of your receivers downfield.
32:04Kick in, kick in, kick in, kick in.
32:12Hurry!
32:12What's up?
32:15Spears is cut from behind by Jonathan Bullard.
32:19A 32-year-old, now in his 10th year, makes the play, and it's third down.
32:30Saints defense that has allowed just 14 points per game over the last three.
32:36And Brandon Staley, who is no stranger to the state of Tennessee, was a grad assistant for the Volunteers, Charles' alma mater, and also a defensive coordinator for Chattanooga.
32:56Third and six.
32:58Ward.
32:59He's got the completion, but D.K. is tackled short of a first down.
33:03Alante Taylor, another Tennessee product, makes the play, and let's see what Mike McCoy wants to do on fourth and short.
33:11I'd go for it.
33:13And Cam Ward, right after he threw this pass, he looked right to the sideline and started pointing to McCoy.
33:18Let's go.
33:19They line up quickly.
33:20Spears is the running back.
33:22Play action.
33:22Ward.
33:23He's got a wide open, Okunkwo.
33:25Chig Okunkwo inside the 20.
33:28Stays on his feet.
33:30Okunkwo.
33:31Wow!
33:32Touchdown!
33:33What a play!
33:40Getting chiggy with it for 43 yards!
33:53Andrew getting chiggy with it.
33:55I absolutely love that.
33:56He comes from that right side of your screen where he goes to block.
33:59We used to call this play Broadway when we were on defense because the tight end is showing you one thing and doing another.
34:06Creeps across that line and skirmish to the other side.
34:09And then the rest he just does.
34:10One after the catch.
34:11Breaking the tackle from Kool-Aid McKinstry and getting in the end zone.
34:16Okunkwo had gone 20 consecutive games without a touchdown.
34:19Finally ended that streak last week and he's got another one today and the extra point by Joey Sly is good.
34:27On fourth down, Cam Ward to Chig Okunkwo and Tennessee feeling good in the first half in Nashville.
34:39Jig Okunkwo has set a new career high in receiving yards.
34:52The connection with Cam Ward for the touchdown.
34:56And Tennessee has jumped out to a 13-0 lead.
35:00Cam Ward started 3 of 7 for 41 yards.
35:03But on that drive, he was 3 for 3 for 55 yards.
35:08Pettis will return this one from the 1.
35:18Pettis is spun down shy of the 20-yard line as we go back to the touchdown.
35:25So take a look here.
35:26Ellic Iomaner here.
35:29Chick Okunkwo here.
35:30Iomaner clears the middle and Okunkwo blocks and then releases.
35:35Iomaner ends up taking two defenders with him and that clears things for Okunkwo right here.
35:42Look at that.
35:43Look at this space here for Okunkwo.
35:45And then it's off to the races.
35:50Nice job too at the end.
35:52Look at him breaking the tackle by Kool-Aid McKinstry.
35:55And with the balance and dashes into the end zone.
36:00Cam Ward all fired up.
36:01Poconkwo is one of six tight ends to lead their team in receiving yards this year.
36:08Now the pressure falls on the Saints offense to try to get something going.
36:17Evan Hull takes the handoff here and stops at the line.
36:21Jeffrey Simmons the first to get there as we go back to New York.
36:26NFL Today update with Adam Schein.
36:29Andrew Drake May is pitching a perfect game in New Jersey.
36:33Second touchdown pass of the day.
36:35He's nine for nine so far.
36:3721-0 Patriots all over the Jets.
36:40Back to you.
36:40How about Adam mentioning that he's pitching a perfect game?
36:46Isn't that what you're not supposed to do?
36:48Right?
36:49You're supposed to...
36:50Just teasing Adam.
36:53You know we love you.
36:54And you are terrific.
36:55And he's teasing Allen Allen Allen Allen Allen Allen.
36:57Second and ten.
37:02Shuck to the air.
37:03Steps up.
37:04And he's going to keep it.
37:05Tyler Shuck slides.
37:07Over the 25-yard line.
37:09It will be third down for New Orleans.
37:11And I was really happy to see that no flag came out there.
37:14Yeah.
37:15Slides.
37:16Inaburting contact.
37:17Nothing to the head, neck, and shoulder area.
37:20This is well done by the officials' understanding.
37:23No one was doing any malicious here.
37:25You're on the scene.
37:26Good job by Shuck.
37:27Sees it.
37:27Gets what he can.
37:28Gets down.
37:29And he's already on the spot.
37:31Good job of officiating by not throwing a flag there against Cedric Gray.
37:38Shuck is New Orleans' leading rusher so far today with nine yards.
37:43They have done nothing on the ground.
37:46To the air here.
37:47Olave picks up the first down.
37:50He's able to make the catch turn up field.
37:53And a fresh set of downs coming for the Saints.
37:55Would have been very interesting if Keimon Hall had kept his feet.
38:00Because look where the coverage is.
38:02He's right there on the play.
38:03If he keeps his feet, would have been interesting to see if Olave is able to break that tackle
38:07and get to the first down marker.
38:09Hall goes to the ground.
38:11Olave on third down.
38:12Once again, produces for New Orleans.
38:14He is their key third down guy.
38:16Any key situation like that, they are looking for number 12.
38:20Second most receptions on third down in the NFL this year.
38:24Chris Olave.
38:25Shuck to Juwan Johnson, who makes the catch and pushed out of bounds by Darryl Baker.
38:31Jason, here's my question for you and watching New Orleans now.
38:36When you're down like this, you're not close to being out of it.
38:39But oftentimes you want to try and run the football and tamp things down a little bit against pass rush.
38:44They don't really have a running game.
38:46How do they go about fashioning things without getting Tyler Shuck under a lot of pressure?
38:50I think we're seeing it.
38:51That last one you saw, as soon as the ball hit his hands, he's getting it out.
38:54And the play before that, we saw him taking off.
38:56He has that athletic ability to kind of supplement some of that running game with his own two legs.
39:03Estime out of the backfield.
39:05Cedric Gray is there.
39:07Estime takes him with him for a short little journey.
39:10And a gain of four on the play.
39:12So essentially what you're saying is, and what we're saying, those are running plays.
39:17Yep.
39:17Right?
39:18Those are taking the place of actually just turning it and handing it to Estime.
39:21Because they can't run it very well with this group, just get it to him in space as quickly as possible.
39:27And that takes the place of turning and pitching to him.
39:30Third down and two.
39:32Estime.
39:33The kickball is forward for the first down.
39:36Estime, who cut his teeth at St. Joe's Mottvale in New Jersey.
39:43Same high school as our Jason McCourty.
39:46Who just won the championship, if you were wondering, Andrew, this past season.
39:50I was wondering.
39:51State title?
39:51Yeah, defeating Don Bosco in the championship.
39:54What score?
39:55We just have more points.
39:57You just know you've won.
40:00Another title for your school.
40:02But Estime, what we just saw on that run, that's who he was at Notre Dame.
40:06That's when he came into the league.
40:08A bowling ball, people scattering type runner.
40:14Chuck, pressure coming, steps up, able to locate Austin.
40:17Austin is able to stay on his feet.
40:20Nifty move by Kevin Austin.
40:22Another Notre Dame product gets out to midfield.
40:24It's good for a first down.
40:27What I like about Chuck's game, we're seeing this.
40:29The Titans are bringing pressure.
40:31They bring Hall off the outside, steps underneath, gets the ball out in a hurry.
40:35And he's getting the ball in guys' hands as that knee got close to hitting right there for Austin.
40:49Yeah, they may have detected exactly what you talked about moving the football now.
40:53Jason being able to move it back.
40:56But I think what's going to be interesting, guys, is watching what Denard Wilson does for the Tennessee Titans.
41:02Because this lack of running game for New Orleans, so just as you talked about, Jason, the knee was down.
41:07So they're bringing the ball back.
41:09But with this lack of running game, I think he's going to be way more aggressive on the early downs and bringing people.
41:15And he just did on that play.
41:16Now, you have to tackle behind it.
41:19But I think he's going to be way more aggressive going after Tyler Shuck, even on first down.
41:23That was replay assist, putting it to a two-yard gain.
41:26So second and eight, Olave fields this one and does a great job after the catch to pick up the first down.
41:32Pushed out of bounds by Kyrie Elam, but Olave goes for 16.
41:37And Charles, if I'm the Saints offensively, Jalen Armour-Davis is out of the game.
41:41Kyrie Elam, he was on the Cowboys earlier in this season.
41:44So he joined this team late.
41:46He would be the guy that I would be trying to attack, putting Olave on his side and trying to attack them from that standpoint.
41:52Former first-round pick of Buffalo.
41:54Never quite got to the heights they expected there.
41:57Back to Olave.
41:59And Olave picks up five yards on the play.
42:04Darryl Baker touches him down with 7.50 to go in the first half.
42:09And going back to what you talked about, Jason, getting rid of the ball quickly.
42:12Tyler Shuck showing no signs of panic, no signs of, hey, I'm under duress here.
42:19He knows the ball has to get out of his hands quickly.
42:22He's being very accurate on this drive, getting the ball from him to his receivers and fashioning offense with a lack of a running game.
42:29Eight straight completions for Tyler Shuck.
42:31He's 10 of 11 today.
42:33He's going to be very close to a first out, but appears to be just a bit short.
42:43Truman Jones makes the tackle.
42:48The heavy leaguer Truman Jones started the season in New England.
42:52Tennessee signed and had one-and-a-half sacks last week.
42:58First sacks of his career.
43:01Now playing in his 10th NFL game.
43:05Guys, if I'm New Orleans, I'm not trying the middle of the defensive front.
43:09I'm staying away from Tavondre Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons.
43:14I'm going elsewhere with it.
43:15Taysom Hill is the quarterback, and he'll take it himself, trying to go up the middle.
43:21And we'll see where they spot it, but it appears Tennessee was able to stop Taysom Hill.
43:28That was a losing proposition from the time that play was called.
43:31You cannot run the football in there.
43:33You haven't run it effectively all game, and now you're going to take on 93 Sweat and 98 Simmons
43:39with an offensive line that's really not the one that you wanted to start with.
43:44They just mashed it.
43:46Did you see Simmons just take William Sherman and put him into the offensive backfield?
43:50No chance with that type of a play.
43:54Fourth downs have been brutal for the Saints this year.
43:57They are last in the NFL, 35%, and New Orleans will call timeout when they had Shuck lined up
44:05at wide receiver in that formation, and Hill back at QB.
44:13So first timeout called by either team.
44:17Well, spend the night with CBS and join hosts Bert Kreischer and Hardy
44:22as they celebrate with today's top country artists.
44:26New Year's Eve Live, Nashville's Big Bash on CBS coming this Wednesday.
44:33You know what I'm waiting for?
44:35A country star to have a bar down on Broadway.
44:40Would be the first.
44:42But it is kind of a cool feature, isn't it?
44:44The people reinvesting in Nashville, a city that's so important to country music,
44:49and a lot of the stars have their names right down there on Broadway for people to visit.
44:56Out of the timeout, New Orleans comes with that same formation of Shuck at wide receiver
45:02and Hill as the QB.
45:04Stay out of here.
45:12Hill trying to do it himself.
45:14There is a flag down, and it looks like New Orleans may have moved early.
45:20Our referee today is Adrian Hill.
45:23Here's your flag.
45:24We're trying to snap.
45:25False start.
45:25Austin, Super 81.
45:27Five-yard penalty.
45:28You may sort down.
45:31First penalty of the game.
45:33Kevin Austin, the wide receiver.
45:37Right there.
45:38Just a little flinch, a little twitch, a little twitch.
45:43And that play has it go.
45:44That play's dead because it sure looked like they had it blocked up
45:47with a chance to make it on the right side there.
45:50So Smith, who missed from 43,
45:53now comes out to attempt a 56-yard field goal,
45:57which would match his career long.
45:59And Smith is good.
46:07So a big kick by Charlie Smith from 56 yards away,
46:12and the Saints are on the board.
46:15He curved that one right in,
46:17and with 5.53 to go in the first half,
46:20we've got a 10-point ball game.
46:2213-3, Tennessee in front.
46:30It's time now for the Verizon sideline report.
46:33Here's A.J.
46:34Andrew Jeffrey Simmons told us his fourth Pro Bowl nomination
46:38is obviously one that's very special,
46:40as has been his play as of late.
46:41He made his presence known early in this one with the sack fumble.
46:44He leads all defensive tackles in sacks and tackles for loss.
46:48He says in a year that's been filled with adversity,
46:51he also had that setback earlier this season with his hamstring.
46:54This one is a truly special milestone,
46:57and he believes there are truly some better days ahead
46:59for this Titans organization,
47:00and there will be some more Pro Bowlers, guys.
47:02Yeah, A.J., he told us that he knows
47:04that this team will get back to winning football.
47:07He said they have stayed connected
47:09throughout this tough season.
47:11No one's chasing individual stats.
47:14Everyone is playing for each other,
47:15and he can see that tightness in the locker room.
47:18He says in the cafeteria,
47:20guys are sitting with different position groups,
47:23not just, you know, among the defensive linemen.
47:25He'll sit with a wide receiver.
47:27He just feels very close
47:29as we have multiple flags down on his return.
47:32A lot of encouraging words out of the mouth
47:36of a guy who's seen the success here in Tennessee,
47:39but also has had to deal with a lot of losses in his career.
47:42And one other thing to throw in there, the youngsters.
47:46Yeah.
47:46He mentioned these youngsters have energized him
47:48and excited him about the future.
47:50Young players playing well like Helm and Io Manor.
47:53All right.
47:55Thank you, Mr.
47:59Kar
