00:00Going on here in New England is historical in the sense of the fact they lost 13 games.
00:05No team coming into this season that had lost 13 games had won 13 or more in the following season.
00:11So here they are with an MVP young quarterback in Drake May, a potential coach of the year candidate in Mike Vrabel.
00:16And as you said, a win today at home and a little help by the Chargers and they're going to find themselves atop the AFC.
00:23Facing off with the Dolphins team that has caught fire here towards the end of the season.
00:26They've won six of their last nine.
00:27And it's going to be an offseason of questions, but today's a big day as they start to try to answer some of those.
00:32Yeah, an offseason of questions and certainly an offseason of change, right?
00:35They already announced, they've already started their GM search.
00:38We'll see how that all shakes out.
00:39But so much conversation around Mike McDaniel and his future.
00:42Is he going to remain as the head coach of the Dolphins?
00:45But that conversation to me goes hand in hand with what is the future at the quarterback position?
00:50Tua no longer the starter.
00:51They turn it over to Quinn Ewers, the young seventh-round rookie.
00:54Today he's auditioning to try to put himself in that conversation of can he be the future of the quarterback position
01:01as they try to reset this foundation and try to compete with the titles.
01:05You know what the good thing about the late window is?
01:07Week 18, most of this stuff is sorted out.
01:09There are fewer scenarios.
01:11Here's what it is for the Patriots.
01:12They, with a win, would be at least the two-seed.
01:14If they win and Denver loses to the Chargers, they would be the one-seed.
01:18They would have to buy next week.
01:20Just as much of a motivation to win this game, though, is to not lose it
01:24because Jacksonville is put the pressure on with an eighth consecutive win.
01:28If the Patriots were to lose this game, Jacksonville would jump them.
01:32And Mike Rabel's team would be the three-seed and be guaranteed of just one home playoff game.
01:39Regular season coming to a close with a Week 2 rematch.
01:41Patriots got their first win of this season back in Miami Week 2, 33-27.
01:47They're now 13-3 and a chance at the one-seed this afternoon.
01:52Off we go from Foxborough.
01:54D'Arnis Johnson on the move for the Patriots.
02:00He's coached at the 30.
02:01That's when New England will take over.
02:03And Drake May, who told us this week, Greg, that he played a lot of Madden as a kid.
02:07Last week against the Jets, looked like he was playing video games set on rookie mode
02:11as he put together a stat line that we've never seen in the NFL.
02:1490% completion percentage, 250-plus yards, and five touchdowns.
02:19Yeah, five touchdowns to five different players.
02:22I mean, spreading the ball around.
02:24You know, we were joking last night.
02:25You could spin a wheel.
02:26And whenever it came up on whatever category, however you want to quantify high-level quarterback play,
02:32you could spin a wheel and put your finger on it.
02:34Chances are, Drake May, he's going to be at the top.
02:38Started off with a handoff.
02:39Straight up the middle to remind Joe Stevenson.
02:43Yeah, he powers ahead.
02:44How about that one to start the day for New England?
02:46Nine yards for Stevenson, who's at the late-season surge.
02:49So, you're not supposed to be able to have all these things, right?
02:52He's number one in completion percentage, 72%.
02:55A lot of times you see that.
02:57It's because the guy's inking and dunking and playing it conservatively.
03:00But he also leads the league in yards per attempt.
03:02He's doing this downfield.
03:03And there's that game last week.
03:05Two incompletions.
03:06I don't care who you're playing.
03:07Two incompletions, five touchdowns.
03:10Absurd.
03:11Yeah, and then you start factoring in what he's able to do with his legs.
03:13It's just, Joshua Daniels, the offensive coordinator here,
03:16I mean, he told us as much, he said it's so rare
03:19to have a young quarterback in his second year.
03:21There's no element of offense that we can't run in New England.
03:25Back to that.
03:26Stevenson runs in a big hole and a big play.
03:29There goes Ramondre Stevenson.
03:31Two plays into the game, and New England has it first and goal.
03:3757 yards for Stevenson.
03:40Now, so much is about Drake May and his passing game
03:43and being one of the best,
03:45but they do this as well as anybody.
03:47They go jumbo, big bodies on the field.
03:50You know, it's amazing for a team, Joe,
03:52that is so prolific throwing the ball,
03:54especially downfield.
03:56Teams play them in base personnel, big bodies,
03:59and it's just so counterintuitive.
04:02You're so worried about matching these big bodies
04:04that New England puts on the field,
04:06and we're just a handful to stop.
04:09Stevenson had two touchdowns in that win
04:11against the Jets last week.
04:12Two carries open the game, gets a break.
04:15The rookie, Henderson, comes in,
04:16and Travion straight ahead.
04:18Three plays, three runs, touchdown.
04:20Bang.
04:21Wow.
04:22Oh, now the Drake May haters out there
04:29are not going to try to use this against them
04:31in the MVP season.
04:31He never even throws the ball.
04:33They just run it.
04:34They don't need to do anything.
04:35They don't play anybody.
04:36He's got a great run game.
04:38Well, that's all nonsense.
04:39I'll tell you what.
04:41They can throw it.
04:43They continue to improve in the ground game.
04:45They're good up front,
04:46getting healthy again at the offensive line.
04:48They've got something brewing here in New England.
04:52Travion Henderson has his eighth touchdown here as a rookie.
04:55Another rookie in Andy Borgales for the extra point.
04:58And a 7-0 lead for the Patriots
05:00less than two minutes into this ball game.
05:03But you always wonder what it's going to look like week 18.
05:06How much is a team going to go after it?
05:08They're going to rest, guys.
05:09First of all, no, they're not doing that.
05:11They've got all their dudes playing,
05:12and they look inspired.
05:14They're going to do all they can to make a push for that one seed,
05:16and then cheer for the Chargers across the country.
05:24Well, the Patriots have played with the lead
05:26more than any team in the NFL this year,
05:28and they don't waste any time getting their first lead of this one.
05:31Trying to go to 14-3.
05:34They do something that no team has ever done.
05:36That is go from four wins to 14 wins the next year.
05:39Mike Grable told us, look,
05:40and the question is about who to play, who to rest.
05:43He said, this is a funny league.
05:44Just go win the game.
05:46See where things fall.
05:47I'm not going to get caught up in scenarios.
05:49And he said that the motivation of winning 14 games,
05:52that they take pride in the history of that,
05:54that nobody's ever made that kind of turnaround.
05:59Touchback.
06:00And the Dolphins offense,
06:02our first look today at Quinn Ewers,
06:04who makes his third start.
06:05Three for 290 yards,
06:06and a loss against Cincinnati in his first game.
06:09Beat Tampa Bay last week with a couple touchdowns.
06:11Big test today.
06:12Trying to make his case to be the Dolphins quarterback next year.
06:15Yeah, he's certainly trying to enter that conversation,
06:17as kind of talked about at the open.
06:19I think the development of the quarterback position,
06:22whether it's Quinn Ewers,
06:23whether they go back to Tua,
06:24however it all unfolds,
06:26I think that really goes hand-in-hand
06:27with what the organization down in Miami decides to do
06:30with Mike McDaniels.
06:30If they think Quinn Ewers is their quarterback
06:33for at least the next year,
06:35you can make an argument that keeping him in this system matters.
06:38Bootleg on the first play.
06:40Ewers does not run a ton,
06:42takes off right here,
06:43and has his longest run.
06:45In his first three starts,
06:46it is a diminished group that he's working with here.
06:49His top receiver, Jalen Waddell, is out.
06:51It's not even to mention Tyree Kill,
06:52who was lost for the season week four.
06:54But the bigger deal,
06:55the team MVP, Devon Achan,
06:57is out with a shoulder issue.
06:58Yeah, that's certainly going to change.
07:00The approach comes into a game like this,
07:01you're making a first road start
07:03of a younger rookie quarterback.
07:06The one weakness of this New England team,
07:08they are a much better defense defending the pass
07:11than they are the run.
07:12So, coming into the game,
07:14Miami wants to short hit,
07:15get the ball on the ground,
07:16run the ball at them,
07:17but without their best player,
07:20it's going to be a little more challenging.
07:21Jalen Wright with Achan out.
07:23Wright gets his first start of the year,
07:25has a first down and his first touch.
07:27The Dolphins, injury riddled, really, from the start.
07:35Achan Waddell, Darren Waller,
07:36the tight end is out.
07:37Right tackle, Austin Jackson,
07:39who's battled injuries all year,
07:40misses this game.
07:41So, Larry Borm makes the start of the right tackle.
07:43Defensive side, not unscathed.
07:45Chopper Robinson misses his second game
07:47with a concussion.
07:48Amika Fitzpatrick misses the last three games this year.
07:51Even with all that,
07:52this has been one of the best teams in the NFL,
07:54so quietly the last two months.
07:56Started the season one and six,
07:58but they've won six of their last nine.
08:01Win against Buffalo in there.
08:03Win last week against Tampa Bay.
08:06Just a yard here for Wright.
08:08Against this New England defense,
08:10their leading tackler, Robert Spillane, still out.
08:12They're going to have him back for the postseason.
08:14Same thing with their leading sack guy,
08:16Harold Landry, out again today.
08:17But they do get back Milton Williams.
08:20I think the best thing you can say
08:21about this New England defense is,
08:23you're just really hard to score against, right?
08:25I mean, giving up less than 20 points a game.
08:28Teams enter the red zone at the lowest rate.
08:30I mean, they are just sound.
08:31They're not going to do a lot of mix-up coverages.
08:33They're not going to do a lot of
08:35real crazy elaborate blitz games.
08:37They're going to play sound technical ball
08:38and kick you out of the end zone.
08:40Quick throw to Greg Dulcich.
08:43Fishinella stops in after a gain of four.
08:46This is a little more housekeeping
08:48on who Mike Vrabel's team is without today.
08:50Their leading sack, their leading sack guy.
08:52And one of the best guys against the run
08:53in Kyrus Tonga.
08:55And on offense, Jared Wilson misses
08:57his second game with a concussion.
09:00Terry Williams continues his battle
09:02with prostate cancer,
09:03the defensive coordinator away from the team.
09:05Zach Kerr, who's the linebacker's coach,
09:08is saying they're calling the defense.
09:093rd and 6th for Miami.
09:23That's for pressure and drop off.
09:25Ewers scans, rips it,
09:27has the first down to Theo Weiss.
09:30You saw some of the chemistry
09:31these guys developed early on this year
09:33when they were just scout team players
09:35last week as Weiss had a 60-yard touchdown
09:37for the first of his career.
09:40And even back to college.
09:41This is what Quinn Ewers
09:42has done his entire career.
09:44Granted, only three games
09:46at the NFL level.
09:47He is a very fast processor.
09:49His three years as a starter at Texas,
09:51one of the top-rated quarterbacks
09:53in the league at just getting the ball out
09:54on time, fast.
09:55That's translated here
09:57into this Michael Daniels system.
09:58They want to play on time.
10:00They want the ball to come out in rhythm.
10:01A great example there on 3rd down.
10:06High snap, pulled down.
10:07Hand off Jalen Wright.
10:08Clatched in the head by Christian Ellis.
10:11When Ewers, a lot of that stuff
10:12that he showed at Texas,
10:14Mike McDaniel said he was showing
10:15through practice.
10:16And he said,
10:16you hope, but you don't know.
10:17He said so many times
10:19through his NFL coaching career,
10:20he's seen a guy do something in practice.
10:22But then it doesn't show up on Sunday.
10:24The best part about what's happened
10:25with Quinn Ewers so far
10:26is that they say his best plays
10:28are coming on Sunday.
10:29Instead of going the other direction,
10:30he's improving when it matters most.
10:33Yeah, and I think that's a big reason
10:34why Mike McDaniel and the organization
10:37decided to give Quinn Ewers a shot
10:39to it was turning the ball over.
10:40They had really lost that explosive element
10:42in the passing game.
10:43They just couldn't overcome the turnovers
10:45they had early on.
10:47Turns his shoulders.
10:48He's pressured to the sideline
10:49in Greg Dulcich.
10:51Another one of those scout team guys
10:52from early on this year
10:53that's come out of the blue
10:54and been a favorite target of Ewers.
10:57He's close to the first down there.
10:59And Ewers, you mentioned it,
11:00played at Texas.
11:01He was the number one recruit in the country.
11:03Pretty good quarterback.
11:04Great mullet.
11:05Better hair.
11:05Yeah.
11:06So he goes to Ohio State
11:07to begin transfers to Texas.
11:09Remember, Texas for a couple decades
11:11kind of middling.
11:12He helped get them back to the top
11:13and then was the last quarterback
11:15drafted somehow
11:16with what he did at Texas.
11:17Seventh-round pick
11:19for Miami Dolphins.
11:22Dulcich was a little bit short.
11:23Third and one here.
11:24Ollie Gordon comes in
11:25for the first time in a row.
11:28Gordon's got a first down.
11:31Don't forget, last year
11:32when it was clear
11:33that Texas was going to move on
11:34to Arch Manning
11:35and that Quinn Ewers' time
11:36in Texas was coming to an end,
11:38he turned down major offers
11:40from national championship level programs
11:43across the country
11:44to go play quarterback.
11:45He decided to enter the draft
11:47and start his NFL career,
11:48of course,
11:48falling to the seventh round.
11:50But he thinks he's a good fit
11:52for this Michael Daniels system.
11:54The execution,
11:55all the pre-snap motions.
11:57We're going to talk a lot about that
11:58as this game unfolds.
12:02Quick throw outside
12:03to Malik Washington,
12:05the second-year man from Virginia
12:06with all the injuries
12:07they have at receiver.
12:08He's going to be a featured guy
12:09you'd figure today.
12:11Pushes ahead there for eight yards.
12:13Make it nine, second and one.
12:14And the Dolphins
12:15with a nice response
12:16of a drive here.
12:17Yeah, a couple third-down conversions.
12:19That's been one thing.
12:20So a couple elements
12:21that they're not really
12:22clicking on all cylinders
12:23with Quinn Ewers
12:24is the third-down conversions.
12:26That's been a struggle.
12:27That's very typical
12:27of a young quarterback.
12:28And they don't really
12:29throw the ball downfield.
12:31It's a lot of yards
12:31after catch,
12:32screen game,
12:33quicks.
12:33We've seen a lot of that
12:34on this drive here.
12:37A rare red zone opportunity.
12:39Short side Warren.
12:40He's in front of them.
12:41There's Milton Williams
12:42who they get back today.
12:44Missed the last month
12:45and a half
12:45with an ankle issue.
12:46The run defense
12:47fell off a cliff
12:48without him.
12:49That's not a coincidence.
12:51I guess nobody realized
12:53that he was back.
12:54I mean,
12:54they just flat out
12:55don't block him.
12:56I mean,
12:57it was a huge story
12:58that he's coming off the IR.
12:59They pay him a bazillion dollars
13:01in free agency.
13:03And apparently
13:03Milton Williams
13:05wasn't on the scouting report
13:06because they decided
13:07to run his side
13:08and nobody blocked
13:10one of the best
13:10interior defensive players
13:12in the league.
13:13And instead of
13:14second and short,
13:15moves it back
13:15to third and eight.
13:17Play clock down to five.
13:20Pressure coming.
13:21Ewers gets rid of it
13:22quickly.
13:23On the slant,
13:24it is close
13:25to a first down
13:26to Taj Washington
13:27who's got his first catch
13:29since October.
13:30Only his second this year.
13:33He's going to spot him
13:34a little bit short
13:34it looks like.
13:35The offense is going to
13:36stay out there
13:36and go for it
13:37on fourth down.
13:39They're going to bring in
13:40a sixth offense alignment.
13:41Daniel Brunskill
13:42number 64.
13:44Miami loves bringing in.
13:45It's kind of a fad
13:46going around the league.
13:47A lot of teams
13:48decide to go real big
13:49and replace a tight end
13:50with a jumbo
13:51and he's off
13:52to your left side.
13:54Bobby Gordon
13:55is the running back.
13:56Fourth down
13:57less than one.
13:58It's a fake to him.
13:59Ewers pressured
14:00by Jennings.
14:01Ewers lifting
14:02back at the end zone.
14:03It's a drop.
14:05In and out of the hands
14:06of Cedric Wilson.
14:08Dolphins turn it over
14:09on fourth down.
14:12So a play action pass
14:14on fourth
14:14and a couple of feet.
14:16Coverage from Gibbons
14:17and to bye.
14:19Boy, Wilson
14:20had his hands on it.
14:21You know he'd like
14:21that one back.
14:22Seven nothing Patriots.
14:24They've got the ball again.
14:25You come back.
14:26Go for a franchise
14:32that was at the top
14:33for so long.
14:3416 division titles
14:35in 17 years.
14:36It was jarring
14:36to have those
14:37back-to-back
14:38four-win seasons
14:38but incredible turnaround
14:40in the first season
14:41under Mike Vrabel.
14:42They go from four wins
14:43the last two years
14:44to a chance
14:45at a 14-3 season
14:46this year.
14:48Guy won three Super Bowls
14:49as a player here
14:50with the Patriots
14:51as part of those
14:51glory days
14:52you're mentioning.
14:53head coach in Tennessee
14:55then last year
14:56part-time front office
14:58with Cleveland.
15:00Back into the head
15:00drop here in the window
15:01and it could not have
15:02gotten better
15:03through the regular season.
15:05After the fourth down
15:06stand
15:06they take over
15:07inside their own town
15:08with a Trayvion Henderson run.
15:10Henderson
15:11powers ahead
15:12gives us a chance
15:14to say hello
15:15to the Hall of Famer
15:16Pam Oliver.
15:17Well it has certainly
15:18been a season
15:19where Drake May
15:20has taken the league
15:21by storm.
15:22The second year quarterback
15:23well he has really
15:25set the league on fire
15:26and boy have people
15:27noticed
15:28teammates
15:28like Hunter Henry
15:30find that May's
15:31confidence
15:32is a big reason
15:33why the 23-year-old
15:34is a winner.
15:36Offensive coordinator
15:36Josh McDaniel
15:37seems to
15:38just
15:39can hardly believe
15:40his luck
15:41but he gets
15:41the coaching guide
15:42and Daniels told us
15:44he has just got
15:45such an amazing
15:46way about him.
15:48His first throw
15:49of the day
15:49completes a Kishon Booty.
15:51I don't know
15:51what the other
15:51amazing thing was
15:52was Josh McDaniel
15:54said is incredible
15:55as it's been
15:56to watch what he's
15:57done this year
15:57he thinks there's
15:58still so much
15:59improvement in there.
16:00Yeah and it's
16:00just such an advantage
16:01for Josh McDaniel
16:02as he builds this system
16:04that there's really
16:05no element
16:05that they can't do.
16:06They want to go
16:07five wide spread
16:08like they just
16:09went there
16:09and give him
16:09a full field read
16:10super comfortable.
16:12They want to put
16:12Jumbo on the field
16:13they want to put
16:14big bodies
16:14and put him
16:15under center
16:15like he is here
16:16he's just as
16:17comfortable operating
16:18with his back
16:19to the defense
16:19in play action.
16:20and around
16:22handed off
16:22to Kyle Williams
16:24who's come out
16:25lately
16:25made some big
16:26plays for him
16:26Jack Jones
16:27tackles him here.
16:28The final piece
16:30to that is
16:30and this has been
16:31a big discussion
16:32all season long
16:32with the development
16:33of young quarterbacks
16:34and how much
16:35do NFL teams
16:36ask them to do
16:37at the line of scrimmage
16:38he has full command
16:39at the line of scrimmage
16:40he can audible
16:41a lot of these plays
16:42in the huddles
16:42are checked with knees
16:43he's getting in and out
16:44of bad plays
16:45getting into good plays
16:47he calls the mic
16:48and he is completely
16:49in control
16:51of this Patriots
16:52offensive
16:52that is very rare
16:53for young quarterbacks
16:54today
16:54second and five
16:56Henderson again
16:57this time
16:57he's dropped
16:58at the line of scrimmage
16:59that is Zach Sealer
17:00the longest tenured
17:01member of this
17:02Miami defense
17:03in his seventh year
17:04and it's a defense
17:05that's gotten better
17:06as the second half
17:07of the season
17:07has rolled on
17:08but a couple of injuries
17:09today we mentioned
17:10earlier
17:10no Chop Robinson
17:11no Minka Fitzpatrick
17:13and no stops
17:15on that first drive
17:15three plays
17:16New England was
17:17in the end zone
17:18just like that
17:18but a chance to get
17:19off of the field
17:20here on third and six
17:21defensive coordinator
17:24Anthony Weaver
17:25in his second year
17:26May will look to throw
17:30he's given all day
17:31coverage downfield
17:32is tight
17:33May is running
17:34at a time
17:34keeps it alive
17:35and runs
17:37for a first down
17:38that's the other
17:38part of the game
17:39yeah he's first
17:40in every single
17:41passing category
17:42he also has
17:43scrambled for more
17:44yards than anybody
17:45in the league
17:46and a face mask
17:47that Quinton Bell
17:48got away with
17:49didn't matter
17:50first down run
17:51for Drake Mann
17:52and you can hear
17:53now the MVP
17:54chance
17:54from this home crowd
17:56is an eligible receiver
17:5874
17:59and you see again
18:00they decide
18:01bring Mumford in
18:01to go jumble
18:02but we can spend
18:03all day
18:04talking about
18:05his ability
18:05to pass the ball
18:06and operate at the
18:07line of scrimmage
18:08and then all of a sudden
18:09you have everybody
18:09covered and there's
18:10nowhere to go
18:11with the ball
18:11and then his
18:12athleticism
18:12his ability
18:13to convert
18:14he's among the best
18:15in the league
18:15at scramble
18:16run and pass
18:17oh a little
18:18razzle dazzle
18:19here he's got
18:19Efton Chisholm
18:20wide open
18:21and the rookie
18:23Chisholm
18:23he got his first
18:24touches in the NFL
18:25last week
18:26gets to do it
18:26in front of the
18:27home crowd
18:27here for the first
18:28time
18:2933 yards
18:30this might be
18:31the best timing
18:32of a flea flicker
18:33I've ever seen
18:34because typically
18:34you see you hand
18:35the ball off
18:36to the back
18:36and then he
18:37immediately plays
18:38hot potato
18:38and he just
18:39throws it back
18:39but just a nice
18:41job being patient
18:42he takes a little
18:43fake like he's
18:44going to bounce
18:44it and that's
18:45what really
18:46brought that
18:46defensive backfield
18:47up into the line
18:49really good job
18:50there by the
18:50young back
18:51Henderson
18:51and really
18:52well sold
18:53on the outside
18:54that's really good
18:56inside the 30
18:59Henderson
19:05first to head
19:07Travion Henderson
19:08hard tie
19:09with the first
19:10down
19:10and this time
19:12the flag does
19:13fly as Henderson
19:13gets 12
19:14we're going to
19:15have more at the
19:16end of this play
19:17for the face mask
19:18Henderson who hardly
19:24played over the
19:24first month plus
19:25of this season
19:26took an injury
19:27to Ramondre
19:27Stevenson really
19:28to open the door
19:29for more playing
19:30time for him
19:30and he has
19:31exploded through
19:32it
19:32defense number
19:3325
19:34penalty is
19:36forced half the
19:36distance to the
19:37goal
19:37it's first down
19:39they get Tyrell
19:39Dodson
19:40so first seven
19:41games of the year
19:42Travion Henderson
19:42was averaging about
19:4320 yards per game
19:44just fine print down
19:46there at the end
19:46of the box score
19:47but you look up
19:48at the end of the
19:49year he's the first
19:49Patriots rookie to
19:51have more than a
19:51thousand yards of
19:52offense this
19:53century
19:53he just brings such
19:55juice to this
19:56offense as they try
19:57to get this run
19:58game going
19:59it's been good
20:00it's probably a
20:00middle of the road
20:01run game for the
20:02season but he
20:03brings an explosive
20:04element to that
20:05backfield that
20:06is going to pay
20:07dividends come
20:08postseason
20:08he had a touchdown
20:10in the first
20:10drive
20:11he's straight ahead
20:12here looking for
20:12his second of the
20:13day
20:13stopped at the
20:14two yard line
20:15by Zach
20:15Seeler
20:16second and goal
20:17and Henderson at
20:19Ohio State was
20:19always running
20:20outside just using
20:21his speed to run
20:22by everybody
20:22but he's graded
20:23out as one of the
20:24best running backs
20:24in the league on
20:25inside runs as a
20:26rookie
20:26which is an area
20:27that all season
20:28that's exactly where
20:29teams have attacked
20:30this Dolphins defense
20:31they're much stronger
20:32on the perimeter
20:33setting firm edges
20:34and defending the run
20:35game but
20:36they have had real
20:37trouble defending
20:38interior downhill run
20:40and that's exactly
20:41how New England
20:42has attacked them
20:43here early
20:44putting a couple
20:45things on tape
20:45on this drive
20:46for the playoffs
20:47throw it to him
20:48give it to him
20:49MVP case
20:50instead Stevenson
20:52both running backs
20:53for the touchdown
20:54two drives
20:55two scores
20:56for New England
20:57Josh McDaniels
20:58he's just in his
20:59bag right now
21:00he can call pass
21:01he can call trick
21:02he can call trick plays
21:03he can call
21:04conventional run
21:05now he goes
21:05a little shift
21:06to Wildcat
21:07tell you what
21:09you talk a lot
21:10about Miami's
21:11got a lot to play
21:11for playing for
21:12the future
21:13of their coach
21:13playing for who's
21:14going to be on
21:14this squad next
21:15year and
21:16through two drives
21:17and give or take
21:18halfway through
21:19this first quarter
21:20there's not a
21:20whole lot of fun
21:21you're going to be on the
21:33game for the future
21:33they're coming off
21:34losing to the Raiders
21:35Miami was actually
21:36favored in that game
21:37week two
21:38boy have times
21:39changed
21:40now we're talking
21:40about the Pats
21:41fighting for a one seed
21:42and a 14th win
21:44Patriots defense
21:50gets the fourth down
21:51stand
21:51the offense
21:52goes 92 yards
21:53and they're averaging
21:5413 yards per play
21:56so far
21:57is that good
21:58I think that's pretty good
21:59coming in
22:01their explosiveness
22:02was in the passing game
22:04they were kind of
22:04more of an efficient run
22:06and trying to keep the sticks
22:07but they start matching
22:09this level of explosiveness
22:10in their run game
22:11with what's already
22:12the best downfield
22:13passing team
22:14in the league
22:15getting that all
22:16synced up in week 18
22:18right before the postseason
22:19that's pretty good timing
22:20Boragales
22:23to kick it away
22:25to the back of the end zone
22:31it was as if
22:32Mike Dribble
22:33had a crystal ball
22:34and knew what was coming
22:35you go back to his
22:36press conference
22:36you know
22:38and our goals
22:39will be to
22:40to win the AFC East
22:41to host home playoff games
22:43and to compete
22:44for championships
22:45that's what it's going to take
22:47we're going to work like crazy
22:48and we're going to compete
22:49like crazy
22:49like that's where
22:51we're going to start
22:51I don't think anybody
22:55would have argued
22:56that they would get there
22:57eventually
22:57but that turnaround
22:59has happened
22:59fast
23:00credit to Robert Kraft
23:04for realizing
23:05that it wasn't working
23:06with Gerard Mayo
23:07he had the full-in season
23:09to finish off
23:09Bill Belichick's time
23:10full-in season
23:11in Gerard Mayo's
23:12one year
23:13viewers looks to throw
23:15here first play
23:15at the drive
23:16slings it downfield
23:17and has Malik
23:18or has Taj Washington
23:19for his second catch
23:20so many cases though
23:21where you would see
23:22a team just kind of
23:23ride with it
23:24and say
23:24let's give it another shot
23:26credit for realizing
23:27that a change
23:28probably needed to be made
23:29and change the trajectory
23:31of this organization
23:32absolutely
23:32and the Kraft family
23:34and this entire
23:34Patriots organization
23:36the advantage they have
23:37is they know
23:38what it looks like
23:38they know what
23:39championship caliber
23:40franchises
23:41and quarterback play
23:42and coaching
23:43they're pretty familiar
23:44with what that looks like
23:45here in New England
23:46so clearly last year
23:47was not it
23:48didn't take them long
23:50to figure it out
23:5019 in the first play
23:52of that drive
23:52for Washington
23:53and a handoff here
23:54for Jim and Wright
23:55low on the shoulder
23:57for a game of six
23:58to bring this first quarter
23:59to a close
24:00and the Patriots
24:01have already wrapped up
24:02their first playoff trip
24:03in four seasons
24:04first division title
24:05in six years
24:06trying to put the pressure
24:07on the Broncos here
24:09two drives and two scores
24:10all Patriots
24:11so far in this
24:12week 18 divisional matchup
24:14Patriots have a 14 to nothing lead
24:22as we go to the second quarter
24:23first quarter for the Pats
24:24108 rushing yards
24:26the most in any quarter
24:27this year
24:27Dolphins have moved
24:29the ball as well
24:30the New is six out
24:32of his first seven
24:32although they
24:33turned it over on downs
24:34inside the town
24:35on their first drive
24:36here's a handoff
24:38to Monique Washington
24:40and to Josh Swank
24:41and Washington
24:41who's the motion man
24:42to begin that play
24:43gets the ball
24:44and scampers ahead
24:45for 15
24:45always somebody
24:48moving pre-snap
24:49for this Dolphins offense
24:50and he was the guy
24:51that time
24:51yeah that's gonna be
24:53something
24:53that we're gonna see
24:54all day
24:55and I felt
24:56Mike McCandley
24:57he told us a fun story
24:57he said when we decided
24:58to go to Quinn Yor
24:59and we were gonna
25:00start building
25:01the game plan
25:02he said
25:02we took him inside
25:03the meeting room
25:04for about three hours
25:05we just sat with him
25:05we said how comfortable
25:06are you operating
25:07everything before
25:09the snap
25:10he said until we understood
25:11how we grasped that
25:12there was no plays
25:13to even put in
25:14into the flats
25:15he goes here
25:16for the tight end
25:16Julian Hill
25:17and again so much
25:18to look at
25:19guys moving all over
25:20the place
25:21yeah so this is a little
25:22bit of what we're
25:22talking about
25:23so every one of these
25:24plays before he says
25:25set up
25:26there is a landmark
25:27that these motion men
25:28have to get to
25:29and it's critical
25:30for the run angles
25:31for the misdirection
25:32so everything they're
25:33trying to do
25:33to influence the defense
25:35so
25:35Mike McDaniel
25:37he had really
25:37Mike McDaniel
25:38he had really good
25:39understanding of
25:40going to get a crisp
25:41of what my young
25:42quarterback is capable
25:43of handling
25:44pre-snap operation
25:45now it gets compounded
25:47when you go on the road
25:48and you start
25:48getting to deal
25:49with crowd noise
25:50and silent count
25:50second and short
25:52handed off
25:52Jim and Light
25:53gets a first down
25:55and we get our first
25:56game break
25:56with Carissa Thompson
25:57thank you so much
25:58if that goes the way
26:00it looks like it might
26:01go Carissa
26:01then the Patriots
26:02going to have a chance
26:03to get right back
26:04at the Chargers
26:04next week
26:05because chances are
26:06that's who they're
26:06going to face off with
26:07if the score is
26:09as they are
26:10across the board
26:10at this point
26:11hold
26:11and Justin Herbert
26:13would be back
26:14for the Chargers
26:14in that game
26:15first down and 10
26:17from the 12
26:18right left side
26:20Jalen Wright
26:22with a gain of 7
26:24ball comes out
26:25though
26:25Miami's back
26:26on top of it
26:27he fumbled it
26:29but Aaron Brewer
26:29the center
26:30was right there
26:31to preserve
26:32possession for the
26:32Dolphins
26:33kind of just
26:38finish off
26:39that last conversation
26:40about just how much
26:41pre-snap
26:42Quinn Ewers
26:42is expected to handle
26:43and the load
26:44that's on his shoulders
26:45to operate
26:46in his words
26:47he said
26:47there's no breather play
26:48you know
26:49in so many offenses
26:50play callers
26:51will just give their
26:51quarterback a free play
26:53you don't have to do much
26:53make a mic point
26:54say set hut
26:55hand it off
26:56there's not a lot
26:57of those opportunities
26:58in this system
26:59that's the way
26:59it's designed
27:00second and three
27:02they've run it
27:02with success
27:03on this drive
27:03they keep it there
27:04Wright breaks
27:06tackles
27:06gets close to the
27:07first down
27:08Anthony Jennings
27:09the tackle
27:09Jalen Wright
27:11starting for Devon
27:12H.N. today
27:13trying to keep
27:13this success
27:14on the ground
27:15going
27:15trying to say
27:16hey it's not just
27:16H.N.
27:17it's about the
27:17offensive line
27:18as well
27:19and Wright
27:20is a guy
27:20who might have
27:21done one
27:21out of his way
27:22to praise
27:22the way he's
27:23played
27:23lately
27:24he's got a
27:24little more
27:24of a chance
27:25lately
27:25look last
27:26week
27:2656 yards
27:27on just
27:28five carries
27:28comes out
27:30of the game
27:30here
27:30and Ollie
27:31Gordon
27:31rookie
27:32comes in
27:32they're not
27:34going to get
27:34a lot of

27:35when you play
27:36behind
27:36the best player
27:37on the team
27:38in H.N.
27:38so big
27:39opportunity
27:39for these
27:40young backs
27:41to show
27:42their role
27:42in this
27:43offense
27:43third down
27:44and less
27:45than a yard
27:45Gordon's got
27:46it

27:48down to the
27:49one
27:49stopped by
27:50Christian
27:50Barmore
27:51so I'm with
27:55you
27:55I've been
27:56impressed
27:56with this
27:57Dolphins
27:57offense
27:58it's been
27:58the defense
27:59that has
27:59really
27:59not shown
28:00up here
28:01a little
28:02over a quarter
28:03into this
28:04game
28:04but it's a
28:04good mix
28:05of running
28:05pass
28:05they're getting
28:06the ball
28:06out of his
28:06hand fast
28:07and certainly
28:09this run
28:09game
28:10being one
28:10of the
28:11most diverse
28:11and multiple
28:12in the
28:12entire league
28:13has got
28:14them here
28:14on the
28:14doorstep
28:15of
28:15cutting this
28:17lead in
28:17half
28:17you've got to
28:18figure the
28:18offensive line
28:19trying to
28:20take a little
28:20pride in
28:20this
28:21right
28:21saying I
28:21know we
28:22don't have
28:22H.N.
28:23but we can
28:24still pave the
28:24way
28:25it doesn't
28:25matter who
28:25you have
28:25back there
28:26Jalen Wright
28:27comes back
28:28in
28:28he's got
28:29it
28:29hit in
28:30the back
28:30field
28:30and
28:31Barry
28:32Marcus
28:32Jones
28:33finished him
28:33off
28:34but there
28:34were several
28:35blue shirts
28:35that got
28:36through there
28:36and blew
28:36the playoff
28:37yeah so
28:42take a look
28:42at everything
28:43that's going
28:43on here
28:43so he's
28:44got to
28:45time up
28:45Alec
28:46Ingold
28:46he's off
28:46to the
28:47left
28:47he's the
28:47fullback
28:48he's going
28:48to set
28:49him in
28:49motion
28:49and he's
28:50got to
28:50time
28:51you see
28:51Ingold
28:51he's trying
28:52to slide
28:52behind him
28:53and just
28:54a lot of
28:55moving parts
28:55and that
28:56penetration
28:56there on
28:57the back
28:57side
28:58just nowhere
28:59for right
29:00to hit

34:31going to
34:31hold serve
34:31with the
34:32Broncos
34:33that tend
34:34to nothing
34:34against the
34:35Chargers
34:35if they
34:35hold on
34:36there
34:36Broncos
34:36would get
34:37the bye
34:37Patriots
34:38would be
34:38the two
34:38seed
34:39if they
34:39win this
34:39game
34:40Patriots
34:41hoping
34:41Chargers
34:42can come
34:42back
34:43and beat
34:43Denver
34:43leave them
34:44for the
34:45one seed
34:45they're trying
34:46to take
34:46care of their
34:47own business
34:47so they don't
34:48fall
34:48and have
34:48Jacksonville
34:49who finished
34:49the regular
34:50season
34:50on an
34:50eight game
34:51winning streak
34:52sitting there
34:53hoping to
34:53jump them
34:5314-7
34:56here in
34:57Foxborough
34:57Dolphins
34:58back on
34:58offense
34:59and a
34:59jumper
34:59there in
35:00the handoff
35:00to Jalen Wright
35:01Wright
35:03should not
35:06be a surprise
35:07when we talk
35:07to people
35:07around the
35:08Dolphins
35:08we had
35:09Quinn Ewers
35:09tell us
35:09this week
35:10that he
35:10might be
35:10the hungriest
35:11player he's
35:12ever been
35:12around
35:13Wright
35:13didn't play
35:14a ton as
35:15a rookie
35:15hardly played
35:16at all
35:16for his
35:17couple of
35:17months
35:17this year
35:18was a
35:18healthy
35:18scratch
35:19a couple
35:19times
35:19and the
35:20way Quinn
35:20Ewers
35:20put it
35:21is
35:21he's
35:21running
35:21mad
35:22about
35:22all
35:22that
35:23yeah
35:23and
35:23opportunities
35:23are going
35:24to be
35:24hard
35:24to come
35:25by
35:25you're
35:25talking
35:25about
35:25playing
35:26behind
35:26one
35:26of the
35:26best
35:26players
35:27in the
35:28entire
35:28league
35:28and a
35:29chance
35:29so
35:29you gotta
35:30make the
35:30most of
35:31your
35:31opportunities
35:31as a
35:32young
35:32player
35:32in this
35:32league
35:33you always
35:33get to
35:33determine
35:34when they
35:35come
35:35but
35:35certainly
35:36what you
35:36do
35:36when they
35:37come
35:37scouted
35:37again
35:38here
35:38and the
35:40second year
35:40man from
35:41Tennessee
35:41gets a
35:43couple more
35:43third and
35:44short
35:44last year
35:46after they
35:47drafted him
35:47in the
35:47fourth round
35:48one of his
35:48best games
35:49though came
35:49when the
35:50Dolphins
35:50traveled up
35:51here to
35:51Foxborough
35:52he ran
35:52for 86
35:53yards
35:53as his
35:54biggest game
35:55as a
35:55rookie
35:56leaves the
35:57field for
35:57third and
35:58one
35:58as Ali
36:00Gordon
36:00comes back
36:01in
36:01Gordon's
36:14got it
36:15he stops
36:15short
36:16Cole
36:16Gordon
36:17who's
36:17taken
36:18advantage
36:18of some
36:18of the
36:19injuries
36:19up front
36:20Williams
36:20and Tonga
36:21both missing
36:21time
36:22and so
36:22Durden
36:22the third
36:23year man
36:23from NC
36:24State
36:24has made
36:25his mark
36:25has a
36:29great job
36:29here
36:30they just
36:30do a
36:30little
36:30out
36:31stunt
36:31all the
36:31defensive
36:32linemen
36:32on the
36:32right
36:32step to
36:33their
36:34right
36:34gap
36:35and
36:35for
36:35some
36:36of
36:36these
36:36inside
36:36zone
36:37concepts
36:37it's
36:37just
36:38so hard
36:38watch
36:38see
36:39you just
36:39slip
36:39that block
36:40on the
36:40back
36:40side
36:41and
36:41that
36:42combination
36:42between
36:43Durden
36:43Milton
36:44Williams
36:44now
36:44getting
36:45back
36:45healthy
36:45the
36:46interior
36:47of this
36:47Patriots
36:48defensive
36:48line
36:48continues
36:49to really
36:50improve
36:50Jake Bailey
36:51to punt
36:52Marcus
36:52Jones
36:53who's got
36:53two punt
36:54return touchdowns
36:55this year
36:55three for his
36:56career
36:57will watch this
36:59one bounce
36:59turned into a
37:00conductor
37:00and it rolls
37:02down to the
37:0331 yard line
37:04that's where
37:04Drake May and the
37:05Patriots will be
37:06back on offense
37:06with a 14-7 lead
37:08looking for a
37:0914-3 finish
37:10to the regular
37:11season
37:11after the NFL
37:18season wraps up
37:19a regular season
37:20at least
37:20here's three guys
37:21you don't want to
37:21miss on Monday
37:22talking about the
37:23playoffs
37:23all starting with
37:24wake up
37:25bar stool
37:25then you get
37:26Collins takes
37:26and finish it off
37:27with first things
37:28first
37:28three voices
37:29accept the
37:30conversation
37:30on FS1
37:32Joe Davis
37:34Greg Olson
37:35Sam Oliver
37:36back here in
37:36Foxboro
37:37where the
37:37Patriots have
37:38a 14-7 lead
37:39the back on
37:40offense
37:40at the
37:40old 31
37:41running game
37:45so far
37:46for the
37:46bats
37:46that has
37:47driven the
37:47bus
37:48Henderson
37:48here
37:49broke the
37:51tackle
37:51Jack Jones
37:52and got
37:52a couple
37:53second
37:54and eight
37:55I think
37:58you look
37:58around the
37:58league
37:59and there's
37:59a very
37:59common
38:00theme
38:00going on
38:01a fad
38:01around the
38:02league
38:02for a lot
38:02of offenses
38:03they want
38:04to go
38:04big
38:04there's
38:05a lot
38:05of big
38:05personnel
38:06groupings
38:06multiple
38:07tight ends
38:08multiple
38:08backs
38:09and
38:09for an
38:10offense like
38:10New England
38:11about 50%
38:12of their snaps
38:13they operate
38:13with less than
38:14three wide
38:15receivers on
38:15the field
38:16it's certainly
38:16one of the best
38:17but they have
38:19the luxury
38:19when they do
38:20want to go to
38:2011 personnel
38:21and play with
38:21multiple receivers
38:22they have the
38:23ability to do
38:24both
38:24may to throw
38:26may to throw it
38:26steps up
38:27and now
38:27he'll take
38:28off
38:28and
38:28Patriots
38:29fans are
38:29saying
38:30please
38:30get down
38:31get down
38:31but you know
38:32why that's
38:33so important
38:33is it just
38:34gives Josh
38:35McDaniel
38:35such flexibility
38:36within the
38:37offense
38:37and it puts
38:38a lot of
38:38pressure on
38:39the defense
38:39do you want
38:40to match
38:40them with
38:40base
38:41do you want
38:41to keep
38:41only four
38:42defensive
38:42backs
38:43and three
38:43linebackers
38:44and defend
38:45all these
38:45big bodies
38:46and let
38:47Drake
38:47May throw
38:48the ball
38:48or do you
38:49want to go
38:49nickel
38:50so it's a
38:50very complex
38:52and complicated
38:52kind of
38:53decision-making
38:53process
38:54and you see
38:55a lot of
38:55the top
38:55offenses
38:56in the league
38:56the ability
38:57to operate
38:58big
38:58and operate
38:59small
39:00like they
39:00are here
39:01they're the
39:02best 11
39:02team in the
39:03league
39:03and didn't
39:08get this
39:09one off
39:09in time
39:09it's going
39:10to be a
39:10delay
39:10Matt Rossetti
39:13getting a great
39:13field audio
39:14right there
39:14oh no
39:15beg your pardon
39:15somebody
39:16a little
39:16delay
39:17third down
39:17it was still
39:18great audio
39:19Matt
39:19it's a false
39:20start
39:20it's a penalty
39:20either way
39:21and it's
39:2137
39:22they talk
39:24about all
39:25the improvements
39:25of this
39:26offense
39:26and Mike
39:27Rabel
39:27coming in
39:28helping
39:28the big
39:28picture
39:29turn around
39:29but
39:30shouldn't be
39:31left unsaid
39:32how great
39:32a hire
39:32it seems
39:33like
39:33Josh McDaniels
39:34is
39:34coming here
39:35the right
39:35guy to pair
39:36with Drake
39:36Matt
39:36third stint
39:38in New England
39:38six Super Bowl
39:40rings
39:40he needs
39:41both hands
39:42over 17
39:43seasons
39:44the first
39:44two stints
39:45here
39:45Patsy
39:49backs him
39:49up to
39:50a third
39:50and seven
39:50pressure
39:51coming
39:51from the
39:51Dolphins
39:52May
39:52protected
39:53behind Henry
39:54who made
39:54a right
39:55handed catch
39:56and got
39:56stopped
39:57right near
39:57the marker
39:58Ashton Davis
39:59and Tyrell
40:00Dotson
40:00they're going
40:01to be a little
40:01bit short
40:02Patriots are
40:04the best
40:04fourth down
40:04team in the
40:05NFL
40:05and it looks
40:06like the
40:06offense is
40:07standing on the
40:07field trying
40:08to build on
40:08that
40:08this Miami
40:10Dolphins
40:11team
40:11they're going
40:11to pressure
40:12and blitz
40:13at one of
40:13the highest rates
40:14in the league
40:14so it's the
40:15ability to get
40:15to Drake
40:16May
40:16before he can
40:17kind of undress
40:18your coverage
40:19and he's able
40:20to get that ball
40:20to his check
40:21down
40:21and you know
40:22we spent the
40:22whole first half
40:23talking about this
40:24passing game
40:24and an MVP
40:25quarterback
40:25and then they get
40:26this ground game
40:27rolling early
40:28and the cherry
40:29on top is
40:30as you said
40:31they have the
40:31ultimate luxury
40:32of being the best
40:33fourth down team
40:34in the league
40:35and fourth down
40:36optimization has
40:37become a huge
40:37priority
40:38all across the
40:39NFL
40:39they're going
40:40to take a
40:41timeout
40:41before this
40:42they've converted
40:42three of every
40:43fourth down
40:44tries this year
40:45don't go for it
40:46a ton
40:47when you're looking
40:47at compared
40:48to the rest
40:48of the league
40:49but when they
40:49do nobody
40:50converts it
40:50at a higher
40:51rate
40:51well the final
40:57Sunday of the
40:58regular season
40:58wrapping up
40:59what happened
41:01around the rest
41:01of the league
41:02today
41:02in a game
41:03that didn't
41:03have playoff
41:04implications
41:04historic
41:05implications
41:06from Miles
41:06Garrett
41:06who sets
41:07the single
41:07season
41:08sack record
41:08finishes
41:09with 23
41:10we mentioned
41:10the Jags
41:11finishing off
41:12the AFC South
41:12with an 8th
41:13consecutive win
41:14and the Panthers
41:15less than 24 hours
41:17after losing
41:18to the Bucks
41:18clinch a trip
41:20to the playoffs
41:21they've never been
41:21bigger Atlanta
41:22Falcons fans
41:23the Falcons
41:23beat the Saints
41:24the Panthers
41:25back in
41:26at 8 and 9
41:27as the 4th seed
41:28what a bizarre
41:29I'm not sure
41:30if I've ever seen
41:31anything crazier
41:32than that
41:32they lose
41:33the win
41:33the win
41:34and you're in
41:35yesterday
41:35only the back door
41:37because two teams
41:38eliminated from the
41:38playoffs
41:39the right one wins
41:41it is a handoff
41:43on 4th and short
41:44and it's Tyrell Dodson
41:45saying not this time
41:47slams him down
41:49for a loss
41:50but beg your pardon
41:51it was Jordan Brooks
41:52Jordan Brooks
41:54who's fighting
41:55for an NFL
41:56tackles title
41:57right there
41:58with Dodson
41:59both getting credit
42:00and Miami
42:02takes over
42:03down a touchdown
42:04why don't we hang
42:11around here
42:11is that an
42:13announcers jinx
42:13did we just
42:14announcers
42:15jinx
42:16you hear
42:17announcers do it
42:18all the time
42:19like this kicker
42:19hasn't missed
42:20and then they miss
42:21we just talked about
42:22this is the best
42:234th down team
42:24in football
42:26and
42:26a minute and a half
42:28later they fail
42:29we talked about
42:30some of the struggles
42:31the ups and downs
42:32certainly a resurgence
42:33here late by this
42:34Dolphins defense
42:35but
42:35they're best two
42:37players
42:38Dotson and Brooks
42:39Brooks fighting to be
42:39the NFL tackle
42:41leader
42:41trying to finish his
42:43lead here in week
42:4418
42:44and
42:44those two guys
42:46they're active
42:47they find the ball
42:48certainly a highlight
42:50of what's been an
42:51up and down season
42:52overall for this
42:52Dolphins team
42:53so they take over
42:56inside the 40
42:57and hand it off
42:58to Jalen Wright
42:59and Wright skates
43:00his way ahead
43:00for 8 yards
43:01but a flag
43:02back to the line
43:02of scrimmage
43:03by the way
43:04they credited
43:04Tyrell Dotson
43:06with the tackle
43:06on that 4th down play
43:08holding
43:08offense number 52
43:1010 yard penalty
43:12replay 1st down
43:13Jordan Brooks
43:15not going to get
43:16credit for it
43:17Paul gets called
43:19for the penalty
43:20you see him right there
43:21that big left hand
43:21I think Jordan Brooks
43:22he's on the sideline
43:23right now
43:24I think he's
43:24he's trying to find
43:25a way to get
43:26a half a tackle
43:27yeah
43:27listen
43:29for him
43:30he made it
43:31very quick
43:31he's dealing
43:32with a little hamstring
43:33he's a little banged up
43:34he wants to finish
43:36this season
43:36it is important
43:37to him to finish
43:38this season
43:39as the league
43:40leader in tackle
43:41I love that
43:42that a guy
43:42just likes
43:43of course you want
43:44a milestone
43:45like that
43:45so often
43:46guys are like
43:47no no
43:47team game
43:48no
43:48here's Wright again
43:50Wright's got a few
43:52the ball is out
43:53and New England
43:54has got this one
43:55Elijah Konder
43:59recovers the fumble
44:00and a takeaway
44:02for the Patriots defense
44:03you know there's a fine line
44:09between finishing your runs
44:11and running angry
44:12and running aggressive
44:13and that's certainly great
44:14but it can't come
44:15at the expense
44:16of the ball
44:18and for a lot of young
44:19backs that are fighting
44:20they're trying to make
44:21their mark
44:21as a physical aggressive runner
44:25sometimes just known
44:26when the party's over
44:27and that extra yard
44:30is not as important
44:31as finishing the play
44:32with the ball
44:33couple guys in there
44:34putting a big hit
44:35on Jalen Wright
44:35at Christian Gonzalez
44:36Jack Gibbons
44:37who's there as well
44:38and the Patriots offense
44:41is right back
44:43on the field
44:44turn it over on downs
44:46but then the first takeaway
44:47of the day
44:48for the pass
44:48so the Patriots
44:49have been a top five defense
44:50even though they
44:51rank near the bottom
44:52of the NFL
44:53and take aways
44:54ran in red zone defense
44:55this year
44:56looks like that much
44:57more impressive
44:58what they've done
44:58overall defensively
45:00from the 37
45:03straight ahead
45:03Henderson
45:04Henderson slips for 7
45:07and there's Brooks
45:08for the 10th
45:08yeah I think you brought
45:13up such a great point
45:14about this Patriots defense
45:16so often you talk
45:17about being top five
45:18in the league
45:19and points allowed
45:20typically you're able
45:21to take the ball away
45:22and you're great
45:22in the red zone
45:23and those things
45:23kind of go hand in hand
45:24now while teams
45:25do struggle getting
45:26the red zone
45:27as you said
45:28they're giving up
45:29the league lead
45:29in touchdown conversions
45:31but just speaks
45:32to how good they are
45:33on a play-by-play basis
45:34if they get hot
45:35they get on a turnover run
45:36just gonna get even better
45:38Henderson again
45:40and it is Brooks
45:43with another tackle
45:44Brooks now has
45:45five tackles today
45:46that gives him 179
45:47for the year
45:48Devin White's the guy
45:49chasing him
45:50for the Raiders
45:50the only good thing
45:51going for the Raiders
45:52at this point
45:52he only has one tackle
45:54midway through that game
45:55against Kansas City
45:56and so
45:58Jordan Brooks
45:59now has an 11 tackle lead
46:01for the title
46:02he said playing
46:04through the hamstring injury
46:05Mike McDonald
46:06was telling us
46:07this guy will
46:07go through
46:08game day level
46:09extent
46:10just to get ready
46:11for practice
46:12the things he does
46:12in the training room
46:13just to be able
46:14to be on the practice
46:14field
46:15so there was no question
46:16if he's gonna find a way
46:17to get ready
46:18with the hamstring injury
46:19today
46:19May is pressured by Chubb
46:21heaves it back
46:22to Stevenson
46:23and Ramonzo Stevenson
46:25charges ahead
46:26inside the 20
46:27well that was a dangerous
46:28looking throw over there
46:29but May was able
46:31to get it through
46:31despite the pressure
46:32and the coverage
46:33seven yards
46:35second and three
46:36yeah so they're actually
46:37trying to get Diggs
46:38he's gonna come on
46:39this little high
46:40delay route
46:41so they're trying
46:41to pop Diggs
46:42out the back side
46:42of the coverage
46:43but with the depth
46:45of the secondary
46:45and the pressure
46:47up front by Grant
46:48and company
46:49nice job there
46:50by Drake May
46:50get the ball
46:51to his outlet
46:52Stevenson's able
46:53to pick up
46:54seven
46:55Patriots have run
46:58for 130 yards
46:59but Drake May
47:00is just four for seven
47:0159 yards passing
47:03and Mike Vrabel
47:05didn't like something
47:05he just ran about
47:06I'll give him
47:07four
47:08nine
47:09that's pretty good
47:10yeah
47:11just under five
47:12flat 40 down the
47:13sideline to get
47:14that time out
47:15that a boy Mike
47:16be right back
47:17after this message
47:18from Progressive
47:19here we go
47:21May has led the
47:23Patriots to their
47:24first division title
47:25since
47:252019
47:27five straight years
47:29at Buffalo
47:29holding the crown
47:30Patriots back on top
47:32though behind
47:33their second year
47:33quarterback
47:34he's got a
47:36second and three
47:36here
47:37that's trying to
47:37take advantage
47:38of the
47:38take away
47:39handoff
47:39Stevenson
47:40Andre
47:41he's got a
47:41first down
47:42there's a flag
47:43down
47:44around the line
47:45of scourge
47:46this is going to
47:47be on Morgan
47:48Moses
47:48it's been a great
47:50addition to this
47:50offensive line at
47:51right tackle
47:52they're going to get
47:53him for a hold
47:54we haven't talked a ton
47:57about the offensive line
47:58that's the other part
47:59of this turnaround
48:00offense number 76
48:0110-yard penalty
48:02second down
48:04they were one of the
48:04worst offensive lines
48:05in the league last year
48:06what was wrong with
48:07Drake May as a rookie
48:08it was a horrible
48:09situation for him to be
48:10in for a number of
48:11reasons
48:11bad offensive line
48:12being at the top of
48:13that list
48:14but they get Bradbury
48:15and Moses
48:16in free agency
48:17they draft
48:17Will Campbell
48:18the left tackle
48:18they draft
48:19Jared Wilson
48:20who's been the
48:20starting left guard
48:21and the offensive line
48:22didn't just get better
48:23they went from
48:24one of the worst
48:24to one of the best
48:25yeah then you
48:26factor in
48:26a really good scheme
48:27from an experienced
48:29really successful
48:29offensive coordinator
48:31and then you put
48:31behind it
48:32one of the best
48:32quarterbacks in the league
48:33so offensive line play
48:35is typically a combination
48:36of personnel scheme
48:38and ultimately
48:39who's the quarterback
48:39oh Bradley
48:40trying to not realize
48:41and they were just
48:42going to run that
48:42down to the two
48:43minute warning
48:44neutral zone infraction
48:45defense number two
48:47unobated to the
48:48quarterback
48:48five yard penalty
48:50second down
48:51we see that
48:52almost on a weekly
48:53basis
48:53right before the
48:55two minute warning
48:56before the end
48:57of a quarter
48:57at the game clock
48:58at 2-0-2
48:592-0-2
49:00I'll wind it out
49:01to the two minute warning
49:02and I can recall
49:03maybe this is what
49:04week 18
49:05twice
49:07that someone's
49:08selling for it
49:09and
49:09Bradley Chubb's
49:11number two
49:12yeah all right
49:15so
49:15to the two minute
49:16warning we go
49:17the Patriots
49:18defense
49:18getting the
49:19take away
49:20the offense
49:21knocking on the
49:21door
49:22for the touchdown
49:22lead
49:23ready or not
49:24how you like me
49:25now I say
49:26throw but it's
49:2810 to nothing in
49:29Denver as the
49:29Broncos try to wrap
49:31up that one so you
49:31can see that up there
49:32top left-hand corner
49:33of the screen
49:34there it is
49:35second and eight
49:37for me and the
49:38Patriots
49:39empty set
49:44blitz is picked up
49:48throw underneath
49:49first catch for
49:50Stephon Diggs
49:51who has given the
49:52Patriots that number
49:53one receiver they've
49:54been looking for for
49:55years it feels like
49:56whether they were
49:57trying to trade for
49:58Brandon Ayuk or
49:59sign Chris Godwin in
50:01free agency
50:01they just haven't had
50:03a top guy in a long
50:04time here
50:04Diggs has a chance
50:06today to be the first
50:07Patriot to reach a
50:08thousand yards in a
50:09season since Julian
50:10Edelman did it back in
50:112019 this is an
50:13organization they know
50:14veteran receivers I
50:15don't know if any
50:16organizations had better
50:17luck over the last
50:18couple decades really
50:20getting the most out of
50:22these veterans and
50:22their next chapter of
50:24their career and I'll
50:24tell you I've been
50:25impressed with Diggs
50:26he's always had a great
50:27ability to find open
50:28space and work zone
50:30coverage but in and
50:31out of his breaks being
50:32sudden contested
50:33catches he's he's been
50:35a great signing on a
50:37team full of them
50:37you're lying
50:38I pulled up in the
50:40slot to the left here
50:41on 35 as they go
50:43empty again
50:44May goes outside and
50:48he's got to Mario
50:49Douglas first down for
50:50Douglas
50:51flag though
50:53flag in the secondary
50:55I think they're gonna
50:56get OPI
50:57offensive pass
50:59interference on New
51:00England
51:01think
51:03pass interference
51:04offense number 85
51:0610 yard penalty at the
51:08previous spot
51:09third down
51:10Hunter Henry
51:11let's take a look
51:12so Hunter Henry he's
51:14up here being pressed
51:15by Dotson and just
51:17trying to be physical
51:19in that release
51:20remember you can't
51:21so remember you only
51:22get one yard
51:22so you get one yard
51:24from the line of
51:25scrimmage and I
51:26thought that contact
51:27was within one yard
51:29and then he kind of
51:29just backs into him
51:31downfield
51:32that was
51:32really really close
51:35if I'm Hunter Henry
51:36I'm not arguing you
51:37can't hit me either
51:38more than a yard
51:39especially against
51:40press coverage
51:41so it backs him up
51:42and May will check it
51:43down he has Douglas
51:44again on third and
51:4515
51:45Douglas a long way
51:46to go
51:46he'll get just to the
51:4821 where the rookie
51:49Dante Trader tackles him
51:51and the Patriots
51:51after the penalty have to
51:52settle for the field
51:53goal attack
51:54that's tough
51:55I can understand
51:56you see Mike Vrabel
51:56he's still working the
51:57officials on the
51:59foreign sideline
52:00he didn't like the
52:01call and I'll be honest
52:03I didn't either
52:03I think when a
52:04defender makes the
52:05decision to get up
52:06and challenge you at
52:07the line of scrimmage
52:08and get up and play
52:08press
52:09I think you have to
52:11give the right to the
52:12offensive player to
52:13handle some of that
52:13with some physicality
52:14and of course he's
52:16trying to create a rub
52:17it's part of the play
52:18but
52:18you get up and press
52:20coverage I think
52:21you got to let him
52:23play
52:23sets up a field goal
52:24attempt for Andy
52:25Borgallis
52:26rookie from the U
52:28the semi-final
52:30pound
52:31you tell me Greg
52:32how's he doing
52:33I think they're
52:33doing great
52:34that says Borgallis
52:36here's a rookie
52:3726 out of 30
52:38and this one gets
52:39blocked
52:40and now the ball
52:42is loose
52:42and picked up
52:44by the rookie
52:45Marshall
52:46Jason Marshall
52:47to the 40 yard line
52:49so a black field goal
52:52for the second week
52:53in a row
52:53for the Miami Dolphins
52:55and it stays a
52:56one score game
52:57and with a minute
52:5730 they get a chance
52:58to tower to here
52:59we didn't say
53:00Borgallis was doing
53:01so no
53:02I actually did
53:03you jinxed him
53:04you have two announcers
53:06jinxes
53:06in one day
53:07Zach Steeler
53:08one block field goal
53:10two announcer jinxes
53:11one more chance
53:13for the Dolphins
53:14here in the first half
53:15Zach Steeler
53:18who is a division
53:19two walk on
53:20in college
53:21at Ferris State
53:22and then cut by Baltimore
53:23has found himself
53:24now seven years
53:25in Miami
53:25with a long-term extension
53:27going to be there
53:27for another five years
53:28at least making an impact
53:30all over the place
53:31he's got a blocked field goal
53:32right here
53:33and how about these Dolphins
53:35Gregor talking a few plays
53:36into the game
53:36and looking like
53:37they weren't here to play
53:38but within the touchdown
53:39they're going to get the ball
53:40out of the break as well
53:41and at the 40 yard line
53:43here down just a touchdown
53:44Quinn Ewers
53:48in his first road start
53:49of the NFL
53:50is eight for nine
53:51he throws for Dersic
53:52here
53:52who's defended
53:53by Carlton Davis
53:54and it's second and ten
53:56yeah you go back
53:57to that last drive
53:58and a really good job
54:00at Mike McDaniel
54:00using his timeouts
54:02there's always a conversation
54:03around you know
54:04do you use your timeouts
54:05on defense
54:05do you use them on offense
54:06what I always think
54:08is always use them
54:09on defense
54:09because you can always
54:11stop the clock
54:12on offense
54:12and I would rather less
54:14I would rather more time
54:15with less timeouts
54:16than less time
54:18with more timeouts
54:19it's just an easier way
54:19to operate
54:20of course
54:21they blocked the kick
54:23so they're on a little bit
54:23of a shorter field
54:24than initially they thought
54:27under a minute and a half
54:28Ewers is in trouble
54:29chased by Barmore
54:31and shot
54:31Christian Barmore
54:33from an interior spot
54:35leads the team in pressures
54:36and turns this one
54:37into his second serve
54:39so now Mike Grable
54:40now he's going to start
54:41using defensive timeouts
54:42to try to extend this half
54:44this is just being
54:46a young quarterback
54:47and you've got to understand
54:48plus side of the field
54:49at the very least
54:51you're looking for
54:52a field goal attempt
54:53understanding you're going
54:54to get the ball
54:54coming out for the start
54:55of the second half
54:56and you just can't
54:57take that sack
54:58throw it away
54:59get it to a check down
55:00and live for third down
55:02so Barmore the fifth year man
55:09out of Alabama
55:10gets a sack for a loss
55:13of seven
55:13third and 17
55:14back at the 47 yard line
55:17he's going to finish off this season
55:20by winning seven of ten
55:22similar story to last year
55:24but he got off to the slow start
55:25and he'll turn it around
55:27in the second half
55:28third and 17
55:32it's a screen
55:33and it's right with room
55:34Jalen Wright
55:35inside the 35
55:37they're in the field goal range
55:40and they've got it
55:40fourth down and three
55:41down a touchdown
55:42field goal team
55:43starting to come on the field
55:44let's see what Mike McDaniels
55:45says though
55:46gotta go
55:48don't ya
55:48yeah I think you gotta go
55:49it's week 18
55:50nothing to play for
55:52nothing to lose
55:53call your best shot
55:55right here
55:56try to keep this possession alive
55:57and
55:58I mean Mike McDaniels
56:01saying what do you mean
56:02nothing to play for
56:02I'm trying to keep my job here
56:04run that clock down
56:07staring contest here
56:08with the clock
56:09yeah smart
56:10so
56:10this is a no brainer
56:11they'll run this down
56:12use all of the play clock
56:14take their final
56:15last remaining timeout
56:16with a second or so to go
56:18and
56:18what you don't want to do
56:19is if you fail
56:20right whether you fail
56:21on fourth down
56:22or you miss the kick
56:23you just don't want to
56:24give a New England offense
56:25that has no timeouts
56:27remaining
56:27any opportunity
56:29to go down
56:29and steal points
56:30of their own
56:31it's the fourth season
56:33for Mike McDaniel
56:34took him to the playoffs
56:35both of his first two years
56:37but second straight year
