02:57not only they're not laying down they're playing great
02:59and for ben johnson who wanted to build on this and kind of feel good going in the playoffs
03:03this is not the first to have to do it oh no so certainly very frustrated for
03:08frustrating for ben johnson at this point because he approached this week as any great coach would
03:14he's got a lot to accomplish with this week he wants to get his team firing on all cylinders
03:19and they came out very flat haven't done anything on offense almost turned the ball over caleb
03:23almost to an interception and defensively have done basically nothing other few red zone plays
03:28to slow this lions offense down

03:40up to the 31 as we go downstairs to top well kb we know dan campbell has always been known as a great
03:45motivator and he found plenty of ways to motivate this week saying sometimes you got to hit rock
03:51bottom until you can work your way back up this is rock bottom but as bad as it looks it's not as far
03:58as far as way as it may appear 11 seasons as a player campbell missed the playoff seven times he
04:04told us it's supposed to hurt he wanted the players to feel that and have it fuel them they're using
04:09that right now guys great point yeah it really is so now the bears on offense have only had it for
04:15six minutes and 43 seconds
04:22a little momentum there but i always did feel as a player and such a great point by tom about
04:30dan campbell feeling the pain of losses and i always felt like you should sit with that pain
04:36the flight home should be painful it should be disappointing you shouldn't try to escape it you
04:41shouldn't make excuses for it you need to feel it and then you need to have some actionable items
04:46to go do something about it i think naturally the human nature part of all of us is to say oh it's
05:01just one game or one season and make excuses and then you when you live in those excuses you don't live
05:07in the solutions and the solutions are let's get back to work let's care more more discipline better
05:14practice habits and that's what this lions program has built itself on you can see it in games like
05:18this today it'll be a third down and it's so interesting right ben johnson obviously comes from
05:26detroit he was there into dan campbell that that whole staff you know obviously they were close-knit
05:31and ben johnson had opportunities before he took this job that he turned down and dan campbell told us
05:36that's when i knew he was going to be good because he was studying as a head coach he was great as an
05:40oces he was studying how to be a head coach and i thought it was so interesting talking to bolt this
05:45week ben johnson said you know command of the room i got that from watching dan campbell it was awesome
05:50awesome statement almost awesome tribute to a guy that he worked with then working with dan and i think
05:54that mutual respect goes both ways we get to watch this rivalry for a long time here swift right side way to go

16:14usually play about 40 percent man coverage so think about what ben johnson was planning for all week in
16:20his scheme in the way that he's drawing up his route concepts and all of a sudden the lions with
16:25obviously nothing much to lose they adjust their play style all this zone coverage
16:29out and so far the bears offense has just been you know very much out of rhythm and there just has
16:36not been any momentum plays the crowd's not into it but again this is the advantage of playing home all
16:41you need is just one spark special teams offense defense try to get everyone back in the game and see
16:46if they can make a great comeback here in the second half there's the bears with two renee and what are they
16:52feeling right now aaron andrews well ben johnson said one word coming out of the locker room at
16:58halftime he said that was disappointing he said look this was one of the easier game plans we
17:04had all year and i've seen way too many mental errors i said what do you want to change about this
17:10offense he said we just need to score right here coming out of halftime defensively the lions have been
17:15four for seven on third down so you can guess what he said he wants to see a change defensively
17:20get him off the field yeah that has not happened at all here's benunga trying to get the run game
17:26going not much there we go downstairs to tamarinaldi well dan campbell started on the defensive side of
17:31the ball saying that he was pleased that they're getting some pressure on caleb williams and then
17:35having the discipline to keep him from getting out of the pocket and getting yards with his feet
17:40offensively happy that they're moving the ball up and down but they need to score touchdowns when they get to the red
17:45zone finally about his team's competitive spirit in this half of football really pleased this one
17:51matters to us and we need to finish he said played like it here is caleb oil looking to get something
17:58going fires into the outside as a completion but short of a first down as loveland hauls it in
18:04and for these bears you know again they haven't had it much when they have they haven't done much a
18:09couple of quick punts and then they had that nice drive they converted one fourth down but then were
18:14denied on the second fourth down trying a fourth and one and that's been it
18:20again if you just tuned in bears are in the playoffs they're either a two or a three seed
18:24and when they've got the two seed and that would be a matchup with the packers here here's
18:28williams on a slam round it is incomplete trying to get it to loveland again but yassine was there to
18:35knock it away well great tight coverage you've seen on loveland that's kind of a mismatch for the
18:41quickness of yassine lovely with the size but yassine just kind of the tenacity in the pass breakup
18:48not the way you want to start this second half just been a flat game for this bears offense and for
18:55the bears defense and you finish the season strong you want to sustain what you've got going for the
19:01last two and a half months they just have not got one spark here the entire game
19:08here's raymond makes a catch up at the 20 lions defense does the job like they've been all day
19:15and a red-hot jared goff and this lion's oh back on the field
19:19on the ross st brown what a first half nine catches 110 yards dom and he's doing it however he wants to
19:29really against cj gardner johnson yeah they found a man-to-man coverage here this is early in the game
19:33on one of their first third downs coming back where gardner johnson has no help in the middle of the field
19:39and amanra beats him and then here is on the left side on that press out they call that and gardner
19:45johnson just two yards away when you have a precision passer like jared goff that's all you need just
19:51give me a little space let me just thread the needle he's got so much confidence on my line and the other
19:57thing about his golf knows where amanra is on every play here he knows where gibbs is gonna hit on the ball
20:02big hole in the middle for jameer gibbs that's a great start for him gonna pick up 13 yards on the
20:08run in the first possession of this third quarter i mean this science offense now is 250 yards total and
20:15again now as you know dan campbell said it's just the red zone they've had to settle for a couple of
20:20field goals down there yeah the execution play after play has been very good against this bears defense
20:26and the bears defense again they are the ones in the playoffs next week they've got to gain some
20:31confidence either in their man coverage which they've chosen to play a lot of or to get back
20:35back to some of these turnovers
20:39gives for a short gain there and again we'll rehash the playoff scenario bears win they get the two
20:45seed which means a date with the packers here which would be the third time they've played them in a
20:49month if not if they were to lose and the eagles win that would drop to a c uh the three seed which
20:55could mean either the rams or the 49ers here at soldier field next week depending on what happens in
21:01that rams game they're up right now so that would mean the 49ers would be here that's the same
21:08a couple fakes games has it down here right side starting to get some traction in that ground
21:13be a third down and four and that traction looks a lot better today than it's looked the past three
21:19weeks he's definitely getting into the defense and the offensive line is doing a good job moving this
21:25defense in front of the bears a lot of time these backs and no back is effective if they have to
21:31stop their feet in the backfield a lot of times they want to start on a track and then stay with
21:36it now once they get a yard into the defense they got to make some adjustments but this they have not
21:41had to do much behind the line of scrimmage these backs in terms of avoiding tacklers today
21:53lions four seven on third down this play is blown dead
21:59lay a game offense five yard penalty third down yuck yeah you don't like they get those yeah quarterbacks
22:09taking the late games or coaches letting it run down no need for that oh it's got to have the
22:14presence to look up and check and check 17 times in a 40-second play clock a rare mistake from the lions
22:22just their second penalty today third down now that's where st brown has lived four catches for 58 yards
22:30on third down in this game so far
22:39bounce pressure up the middle now comes around the edge and he is sacked
22:43jervon dexter with the bear sack and boy do they need that
22:51they finally found a way to get back there a little pass rush game the et the end tackle stunt
22:57dexter's the tackle coming around the lions offensive line does not pass it up you see he's up the field and
23:03he's around causes a little confusion for the offensive line and that's the type of pressure
23:10when you get to these 39 situations the bears defense is very good at getting people off the field in those spots
23:16that's his sixth sack it's the first part of the game for the lions goes to devon duernay
23:25left side out across the 30 and stacked up there and so the bears will get it back looking to get
23:31something going here these fans have been waiting for it something to cheer about so far it's been all

24:20just being back here the city's been electric this game though has not been electric for him as
24:24caleb williams tries to get the offense going to loveland who makes a catch he's already got six
24:29of those but he's really been the only guy like luther burden today who's been great the last month
24:34didn't have a single target yeah no targets for him loveland has been such a consistent present but
24:39one thing about that particular play is you're getting caleb williams outside of the pocket let's
24:44see if they can warm those legs up a little bit so he can extend the plays allow his receivers to get
24:49open down the field a little bit more tire this defensive line out
24:55there's bird in motion and they're going to give it to him first touch of the game makes a great move
25:00and as a first out so finally a touch for bird who's been just terrific and he spins right around
25:05derrick barnes for a first down they heard you kb say how he didn't touch it no targets but listen
25:10there's one way to target him just hand it to him and then barnes tries to come up a little high but the
25:15twitchiness of this young stud receivers really come alive as the season's gone on
25:23he's going to make a miss in the open field he's been so good

25:33swift with a good run into lions territory he goes got a nice block from jackson too
25:40against this lions defense with kelvin shepherd in his first year and you talked about the half he's
25:45changed his stripes last few weeks this is a heavy man defense team they were last year with aaron glenn
25:50and he's totally turned around because of all the injuries yeah when you lose terryon arnold and brian
25:55branch kirby joseph harper's down they just haven't been able to play that style the last couple weeks
26:00now they still played it the last two weeks but today zero man snaps so far
26:04jadey walker could not go down and get it yeah you see just again a little more concerted effort
26:16get caleb out of the pocket when he's out of the pocket to his right he sees the field so well and
26:24then if it's not there he can scramble that part he's got his receiver wide open makes a good enough
26:29throw to walker and walker just can't come down with it and williams got a lot better too scrambling
26:35you know the throwing on his percentage is creeping up last month certainly was a catchable ball 34.

26:50williams escapes looking and swift incomplete as campbell a pretty good coverage on him there and
26:58now fourth down looks like they're going yeah trying to get some momentum and caleb's outside the
27:05pocket again to his right he's good there and swift's just got to maybe slow up a little bit because
27:10caleb sees the sideline he knows he can't lead him because he's going to run him right out of bounds
27:15so you would hope that deandre would just slow up a little bit to give caleb a chance to kind of
27:21throw on his back hip and slide so not the execution they need to get
27:25out of bounds
27:32might be a free play way of season
27:38think he had a free shot and he knew it and thomas knocked it away to save the big one
27:43smart play by caleb trying to take advantage of the offside i think it was
27:50maybe lopez offside defense number 51 and this is on at the snap five yard penalty results in the first
27:57down okay crown of the helmet in any way possible yeah smart played again by caleb just understanding
28:06okay i've already got the first down on the offside let me try to launch one up in the air regardless
28:11whether it's double coverage maybe we can make a big play sitting quite enough on that with the
28:16pressure that he faced but the penalty gives him the first down so the bears have something going here

28:42that's sunday jay moore that's one area that ben johnson talked about with us the bears have the most
28:47pre-snap penalties in the nfl yeah totally bizarre for the discipline they show in so many other areas
28:55that's one that's just been poor they're 29th in the league in penalties kb it's not good and the
29:01pre-snap penalties again the worst ones you can have because it requires nothing from the defense
29:06you're just lining up and then penalty okay you go back
29:14that's a good throw and catch and locker down to the 37.
29:21that ball caught walker just throwing 100 miles an hour that's why
29:26that had a little sauce on it walker just sticks the hand up
29:31all right right back on track again they got a little bit of their run game going they got a
29:37little bit of the boot game going now they got to execute some of these passes when they've got

29:44on the fake looking downfield
29:47letting it rip dj moore is down there and it's intercepted by vante maddox in the end zone
29:53maddox played it better and he's got the pick for detroit
30:09wow caleb not sure he's got one-on-one with dj and maddox just boxes him out
30:17caleb's done such a good job protecting the football in that case not that one out of bounds
30:24they had so much rhythm great play by the lions
30:30i want to show you this interception here by avante maddox the ball snapped
30:35they're trying to go for a fringe shot i mean they're trying to get all this in one play dj moore's
30:40the primary receiver and in this situation because the corner is underneath it and the safety is over
30:46the top there's not much of a place for caleb to throw it he's trying to thread the needle but
30:52avante maddox playing center field just beats dj to the ball so that is just great team defense
30:59a corner working together with the safety creates that turnover so the lions get it back off quick
31:06for a career on the outside gets a good block and he's got a first down it's pretty good for maddox
31:11who's a veteran who's played some safety but he's been mostly a nickel but with all the injuries
31:16they put him back there at safety and he makes the pick and kayla williams has not turned it over
31:20it's first turnover for him in a month incredible and he's just done such a great job protecting the
31:24football and i don't even consider that a terrible throw the ball's just he had to really thread the
31:30needle defensive player makes the play you've got dj moore going down there you'd expect dj to go up and at
31:35at least contest it and knock it away by the way they marked that a little bit short so it's a second
31:39and one

33:25field he's one guy that you don't want to be in man coverage against that guy yeah let's play zone
33:29coach put the put his safety over the top i don't have to cover him but now he just started
33:33running behind the line of scrimmage and this whole little arsenal of weapons really has come to life

33:52moving and keep adding to it
33:58then they put montgomery in to kind of pound the ball but he's so good in the past game as we saw
34:03breaking that tackle with tremaine edmonds i love when i see monty in there because it just tells me
34:08that dan campbell's really intent on just wearing on this defensive line the time of possession is so
34:14out of control right now over 10 minutes more time of possession for the lions takes a really heavy toll
34:19on this defense playing this number he plays only midway through third quarter

34:41and because of that david montgomery has lost a lot of reps this year but there also is a little

34:51one-two punch i love having both these guys contribute because the defense those guys don't
34:57substitute that much at linebacker a little bit at d-line but when you sub in the backs and they stay
35:02fresh over the course of 17 18 weeks they're hard to get down here late in the year they keep both on
35:08now as montgomery's in the wildcat goss a wide receiver at the bottom of the screen and dibs

36:55tipped at the line by grady jared lines have run 51 plays in this game to the 30 plays for the bears yeah
37:06and it's third down offense it's third down defense it's the non-conversions on fourth down for the bears
37:13and i think the lines have done just kind of what they're capable of doing they can run it they've got
37:17some explosive guys in the past game i'm on raw obviously such a stud the way he's played today
37:23they just haven't quite finished in the red zone a little bit way different for the lions
37:27again and the wildcat quarterback is going to keep it this time and the bears
37:31do a pretty good job running into a short game with edmonds and now it's third and goal

39:13to come out and play their best game of the year but you would love to go in there with some momentum

39:24play it's how you play and today when you just look at that you could say the lions are on the road and
39:29doesn't mean much but they are playing very good football and that's why you see the result of
39:34the score being 16 nothing and that's why next week will be a totally different entity in and of
39:39itself and with that playoff intensity you would expect all these teams in the playoffs that are
39:44qualified to be at the very best no doubt so the bears will take over we've got another game break
