00:09:31What success looked like for you guys on opening day with the running game?
00:09:35Yeah, I think uh, it's definitely an area in which we've we've felt some improvement. There you go
00:09:40We were we have felt some improvement, uh specifically over the last two weeks in the joints against carolina and
00:09:48against tampa
00:09:50I think going into week one, you know, we have to play
00:09:55Grimy up front and really all 11. We have to be a grimy nasty
00:10:01physical unit
00:10:04That's when we are at our best running the football
00:10:07It's with max effort across the board. It's with guys sustaining blocks and running the ball violently and
00:10:15It's not always going to be pretty right. It's not always going to be perfect as that one right there
00:10:19was not
00:10:22And you know, we are trying to get a little bit more efficient in the run game as opposed to
00:10:28a lot of volume
00:10:29right a lot of different so many runs masking
00:10:33Uh attempts masking the yards we need to be more efficient and get that number over four yards to carry
00:10:40coach when we talk about the running game and the importance
00:10:44I know you want to push the ball down the field
00:10:45How does it more efficient running game lead the more explosive plays down the field in the passing?
00:10:50Yeah, it just creates balance right and it's a quarterback's best friend
00:10:55when you're able to
00:10:56Create angles in the run game you're able to create leverage in the run game and it it just helps
00:11:03the quarterback so much
00:11:04To where he can just turn around and snap the ball and be able to take a deep breath
00:11:10Right knowing that somebody something else is going to work
00:11:14Somebody else is going to get yards right that not every pass becomes
00:11:18more magnified when you aren't able to run the football successfully and um
00:11:24think we've making we've made some strides there

00:12:03Give us a sense of how your young tight ends have progressed there was so much made of 12 and

00:12:10league-wide but what have you seen from guys like nate borkinger and tyler cozio so far this
00:12:17yeah those guys have done a nice job i think nate has
00:12:21been able to give us the opportunity to
00:12:25you know move brenton around a little bit be a little bit more
00:12:31non-predictable with what we're doing with brenton and be able to move him around he's been
00:12:36I mean all camp nate and josh and josh hines island were battling all camp
00:12:42they were uh
00:12:43it was great work for nate to continue to do those things and
00:12:47and in two joint practices nate caught two touchdown passes in both joints
00:12:51uh and i think tanner really displayed really from the beginning in otas in spring
00:12:58what his superpower is right given the ability to
00:13:01uh you know be able to make contested catches right be able to not maybe be open but still
00:13:08catch the football and and i've actually been pleased with with tanner's ability to
00:13:12try to get in the way and stay in the way and get more physical and i've been pleased with
00:13:18those guys
00:13:18and when you lead the nation in receptions among tight ends and you're at the top of the chart in
00:13:22yards
00:13:23they probably don't ask you to block as much no that's right they weren't asking him to do that
00:13:27and and what it comes down to when that evaluation is is he willing right is he made up of
00:13:33the right
00:13:33stuff that would ultimately be able to give us uh the belief that he can do it right and he's
00:13:41tried
00:13:41he's tried to do all the right things um given that's way
00:13:45um you know i think it's it's the want to right and then if you have the right culture you
00:13:55have the
00:13:55right type of guys in the locker room that they almost uh get peer pressured into uh our play style
00:14:04in ways right because if they don't they're just not going to play listen in 2006 the jaguars had
00:14:10kyle brady who's one of the great blocking tight ends of all time in fact i think he's the legend
00:14:13of
00:14:13the game tonight and they drafted marcedes lewis who played 19 years in this league but he came in
00:14:19from ucla with 100 catches yep and he put his hand on the ground and he only wanted to talk
00:14:24about
00:14:24blocking there's something about that culture coach that says i'm not just a pass catcher it's true
00:14:29it's true it gives you um you know a mindset and mentality i think that these tight ends know
00:14:35now in this league you have to be able to do both to be successful um that it's it's very
00:14:42difficult to
00:14:44be a one-trick pony in this league whether you you got to really be elite at one or the
00:14:50other to
00:14:51to only have that one skill set i think the majority of these guys understand that they have to do
00:14:56both
00:14:56so that they can play on all three downs coach you talked about peer pressure into our playing style
00:15:03the way do we go uh expand on that in terms of the chemistry and the continuity and how the
00:15:08vets
00:15:09mentor the young guys to get them on the same page yeah that's it's so important to have the right
00:15:14type of
00:15:14guys in the locker room that when you've established a message and a tone um that's something that we're
00:15:21constantly hunting up is the the ability to play physical to own the line of scrimmages on both sides
00:15:28of the football and when you have a team that's bought into that it's it helps because now the young
00:15:33guys that are coming in that maybe don't truly know the play style right away they don't know how we
00:15:39want to play um the vets and the guys that have been here can continue to reinforce it both on
00:15:45and
00:15:45off the field spencer whipple's going for it on fourth and one coach at the uh plus 28 there so
00:15:51what
00:15:51do you say yeah i think uh it looks like carter let's see what this play call is going to
00:15:56be we're

00:25:43there's some zone principles to it but more importantly you want to force the quarterback to

00:30:21for a rookie coming out of montana just his zero of the 60 quickness really shows up when the ball
00:30:26is in his hands you know we talk about trevor pena having sort of a parker washington-esque body style
00:30:30and quickness same thing here with worthim yeah just really really fast with the ball in the sense

00:30:47could not get away and the guy who got him jacksonville's own jack piber

00:33:47game this year what happened last year did the light bulb go on did something click with campanili's
00:33:52defense that allowed you to play the way you did and now what i feel like just um the time
00:33:58that we put in
00:33:58in the meeting rooms and just allowing his players to go out there and just make plays i feel like
00:34:03the
00:34:03defense is made for everybody to eat i feel like we just knew what we was looking at and what
00:34:09office
00:34:09was trying to do to us to attack us and we just capitalized it appears like you're a chess piece
00:34:14in this defense how fun is that to be able to move around and week to week maybe offenses won't
00:34:19know
00:34:20exactly what you're doing oh it's super fun you know just being able to you know blitz play deep
00:34:39that's a good place to be mentally right because then you can play fast yeah of course yeah when you
00:34:43play it pretty fast you can play your best ball how many different positions could you play on this
00:34:49defense as many as coaches want me to play if you want to play nose guard i'll play nose well
00:34:55i don't
00:34:55know about that no but uh realistically i think i play about four or five yeah everybody talks about
00:35:00travis hunter playing both sides of the ball i mean you can move around a bit oh no yeah i
00:35:04mean i play
00:35:05on both sides in high school too so you know if coaches need me to go play receiver i can
00:35:09go do that too
00:35:09you talk about travis's infectious personality you have one too and how much does when you're
00:35:14playing confidently and you feel good can that help and spread that throughout the locker room
00:35:19the meeting rooms and obviously on the field uh i feel like when a team is rolling everybody is at
00:35:25their high you know and uh even just if one pair is at a high it just rolls to the
00:35:29rest of the team
00:35:30everybody want to go make a play so it just allows everybody to go out there and like get a
00:35:34little
00:35:34bit more hungry to attack the ball and stuff one last one two weeks until the start of this season
00:35:39are you itching to go can you be patient with that countdown or what's that like for you
00:35:44getting ready since you haven't played at all in the preseason oh man i'm ready to go
00:35:49i really just begin to you know the little you know nudge off by watching the guys go out here
00:35:55play i just been trying to be more like into the game and you know helping them on the sideline
00:35:59but
00:35:59i can't wait to go we can't wait to watch man have a good year guys back up to you
00:36:03he plays with such
00:36:04energy and he had five interceptions last year career high tied for the team lead as browning
00:36:12way overthrows eric rivers's intended target on third down and 13 and so the jaguars have a chance to
00:36:19the good field position here in the fourth quarter but attonio johnson from the moment he showed up as a
00:36:24rookie he was different because he was tall and long and big he's the prototypical safety that is being the
00:36:32swiss army knife on defense his ability to play in the slot playing the back half to be able to

00:36:37the box and make things happen in the run game i'm sure he can bliss off the edge there are
00:36:41a lot of
00:36:42things that he can do that's why he's so valuable to this defense and so riley dixon will put this
00:36:46one out of the end zone and michael wortham will field it at the 42 yard line and here he

00:49:22where are you in your development as an nfl player how comfortable are you and i guess is that part

00:49:29the reason you look like you're playing pretty well yeah i'm very comfortable uh you know second year in
00:49:34system i'm finally able to come back to the same dc and they're allowing me to you know kind of
00:49:39be a
00:49:39piece of the defense move around a lot and i think that kind of plays to the strength of what
00:49:43i am as a
00:49:43football player you have a lot of talent in that secondary um but when you get all four of you
00:49:50guys
00:49:50out there at a time that looks pretty tough to beat that looks really good especially when you got four
00:49:55starting caliber corners uh you know i think that's a great problem to have you know right now it's just
00:50:01focusing in on the details you know what i'm saying everybody playing together every sunday you
00:50:05mentioned the continuity we've been talking about it all august uh how much has that paid a difference
00:50:09not just for you and and you're how comfortable you are but the defense how do you guys feel like
00:50:14you're working as you get closer to this regular season i think you just can kind of see it every
00:50:19day uh anytime you can get continuity coaches players i think that you just get the strength in the
00:50:24bond i think that's what you've kind of seen from us just strengthening the bond and now just
00:50:28focusing in on the details we kind of saw within the season last year stuff that we do like don't
00:50:33like and now we just have a full off season to go just kind of work out some cakes and
00:50:37i think we've
00:50:37hit the ground running we've been able to spend some time with anthony campanile everybody knows who
00:50:41he is now fortunate enough to keep him how much teaching goes on from this group on the defensive side
00:50:46i mean is there a lot of coaching that you guys are getting oh a lot of coaching i think
00:50:50they focus on
00:50:50every little detail like there's no detail that's too small i think they do a good job of letting you
00:50:56know
00:50:56exactly how they want it done you know what i'm saying and when they do that it allows your instinct
00:51:00to take over is he showing some crazy stuff in the video room once again this year or what yeah
00:51:05a lot
00:51:05of boxing matches a lot of people get knocked out we watch a lot of that do you guys get
00:51:10fired up about
00:51:11that or do you even need to be fired up i mean he brings a lot of energy doesn't he
00:51:15yeah he does bring a
00:51:16lot of energy but you know we have a considerably young group uh so when he does that i think
00:51:20we kind of
00:51:21feed into it and i think it kind of matches the personality of the room you know so i think
00:51:24he
00:51:25was the perfect guy for us to have i asked antonio this you have two weeks until the regular season
00:51:29how do you spend that time how much better can you get or how much are you just like man

00:51:39you know what i'm saying just trusting the process and you know just preparing the right way and

00:53:23squad really is the drama around this team yeah this is finishing the physicality and the finish
00:53:29that's a way to that's a way to kind of live up to the play style but yes practice squad

00:53:36you talk about 16 guys that you can keep on that squad a mix of young players and veteran players
00:53:42you're going to have to figure out how it all goes together

00:54:33man it's a value it's a skill we came into training camp trying to figure out who's the third
00:54:38pass rusher who's going to be the one after that bj greenson that fights himself as number three
00:54:42the man brian thomas jr has given himself a chance to be in the conversation to be included in the
00:54:49rotation not just a guy on the roster but a guy who can get on the field and play unbelievable
00:54:55really has had a tremendous camp clock running here 141 and counting in the preseason
00:55:02jaguars controlling this one 19 nothing nice third quarter touchdown drive by carter bradley
00:55:12touchdown and a two-point conversion and then you all saw it michael worthing's 63-yard punt return
00:55:21here's third down and seven high snap
00:55:26and it will be fourth down in about three
00:55:32you don't punt here do you see run the clock down
00:55:39i guess you can handle you have to go play defense but you certainly are trying to avoid an injury
00:55:43at all costs so that's why you're all the way down
