00:00Hi, in this video, we are going to go over how to create an opportunity and how you can
00:08edit information in that opportunity and manage the deal as it progresses through the different
00:15stages.
00:16So let's jump right in.
00:20There are two ways to create an opportunity in Salesforce.
00:24The first is when we convert a lead into an account, a contact, and an opportunity.
00:32We've gone over this in a previous video around lead conversion.
00:37The second way that you can create an opportunity in Salesforce is through an account.
00:45And this is where we're going to be focusing for this video.
00:48So for the purpose of this demonstration, you can see I'm logged in as Julie, who is an AE.
00:58And we are currently on an account page.
01:02And the name of the company is Fast Cars.
01:05So in order to create an opportunity or a deal, think of accounts as sort of the backbone of which
01:14it's created.
01:16Since deals are always associated with an account, accounts form the foundational pieces
01:24required for you to create deals.
01:28So if you go into any account page, you will see in the top right corner that there is a
01:34create opportunity button.
01:36And we're going to use this in order to create opportunities whenever we are not doing so
01:42using the lead conversion process.
01:45Now, the advantage of doing this is that when you create an opportunity from an account page,
01:51it automatically associates the opportunity to that account and pre-fills some information
01:58needed for you to be able to create that opportunity.
02:02So let's see how this looks in practice.
02:06As soon as I create it, I can see that the account name has already been populated based
02:12off of the account that we are on.
02:15And we can see a collection of some other fields, some of which are marked required by
02:20the red asterisk, some of which are not.
02:23It's always best practice to fill in as much information related to a deal as possible.
02:29But the red asterisk are sort of meant to be a guidance for use in order for you to know
02:35what the absolute mandatory fields are.
02:40So let's go ahead and fill in some information.
02:42So you can also see at this point that the market has also been pre-populated based on the market
03:04for the account that we are creating this opportunity from.
03:09So we're going to go ahead now that we're ready and click save.
03:12So clicking into the opportunity that we've just created, we can see that the opportunity has
03:23been named automatically based on the information that I have entered.
03:27This is meant to standardize the process for you and make it easier for you to not to adhere rather
03:36to a standard or convention defined.
03:40In addition to that, you can see a number of other fields spread out into different sections
03:47which are collapsible and going through and working on a deal from start to finish.
03:55You'll be able to fill out as much of these fields as you need.
04:01So in order to create, edit an opportunity or update the information that's already there,
04:09we can do it in two ways.
04:11We can hit the edit button in the top right corner, or we can click the pencil icon beside any field.
04:19Now you'll notice some fields don't have this pencil icon.
04:23This means that these are not editable and maybe are calculated based off of a formula
04:28or an automation that we have running in the background.
04:34You can see at the top that we have predefined some stages pertaining to an opportunity or a deal.
04:42And as you work on a deal, you can progress the deal through these stages until it finally gets to a closed stage.
04:52In order to change a stage, we can, of course, click the pencil icon beside the stage field and select from the drop down.
05:04Alternatively, we can also simply click on the path, what we call in Salesforce,
05:09and click on the appropriate stage and mark as proposed.
05:15And you'll see that we have some validations running in the background,
05:18which require you to take some actions before moving a deal to the stage.
05:24We'll go to this later, but this is how you will be able to move a stage back and forth
05:32while you're working on an opportunity as well.
05:35Thank you so much.
05:36Hope that was helpful.
05:37Hope that was helpful.
