Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PML-N Dharna in Islamabad in front of Parliament House & Election Commission of Pakistan Office in views of analysts and media persons. The PML-N has announced to stage a dharna outside the Parliament House for the empowerment of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before the next general elections.
Likeminded political parties – including Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (Likeminded group), Sunni Tehreek, and nationalist parties from Sindh and Balochistan – were also participating in the protest sin-in.
The sit-in was to be led by opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and senior PML-N politician Raja Zafarul Haq. But both the leaders remained in dharna for a very brief period. PML-N Information Secretary Mushahidullah had earlier said that they would stage dharna at all costs and that it would not be postponed. “The Election Commission is an independent and neutral institution. We will not allow any political party to put pressure on the Election Commission,” he added. “An independent election commission is necessary for free and fair elections.”
Mushahidullah said that the PML-N has invited all political parties to take part in the dharna. The sit-in is aimed at pressuring the government to ensure transparent re-verification of voter lists in Karachi.
