10:35could be their guy the go-to guy after Trey McBride
10:37Marvin Harrison jr. has really struggled guys with the consistency he's dropped a lot of balls
10:43to get his confidence back
10:45this against the Raiders starting defense minus Max Crosby
10:48Brissette takes the shot Harrison it's over his arm but a flag flies
10:53Taron Johnson was grabbing on behind him in coverage and this is going to be a Cardinals first down
10:59no reason for it he's actually in really good position he's got help over the top
11:03pass interference number three defense spot foul automatic first down yeah rich I don't see much there though I see
11:11both players fighting for the football I really do
11:13he had the right arm locked at the right arm locked at the end yep it looked like they were
11:17both fighting for position and like you mentioned he was right there in position and a nice job by Jeremy
11:22Chin staying over the top as well at safety so you're seeing some of the multiple versatility I talk about
11:28with this defense where a guy can line up at safety one play next play he's lined up down in
11:32the box playing linebacker it's a 20 yard penalty against what is now a Rob Leonard the defense defensive line
11:39coach here in the last three years back to Jeremiah Love and he is
11:42he's drilled Quay Walker the leading tackler for the Packers last year he and the Kobe Dean Georgia teammates national
11:50champions and they are reuniting here in Las Vegas oh this is target practice right here this is target practice
11:56right Quay Walker right in the middle watch how he stays patient patient gets off the block and you got
12:00to make the tackle bam that's how you do it staying patient shuffle shuffle shuffle and finish
12:07linebacker linebacker room looks a lot different this year guys Dean Walker pay all in free agency a lot of
12:13talent depth and experience at the linebacker spot and a false start here against the Cardinals in a younger group
12:19too yes
12:21false start number 73 offense five yard penalty still second down that is Isaac Sayamalo brought in this year he
12:30has certainly been stalwart when he has played with the Steelers the Eagles
12:35signed this year to be their starting left guard Cardinals last year they struggled to run too they were the
12:40Raiders were the only team behind them they finished 31st and they brought in their own
12:45offensive guru to running things Mike LaFleur in his first year as the head coach comes it down to love
12:50and a solid job by Taron Johnson in open space you want your outside guys to hold on for dear
12:58life and he just did that you just want to hold
13:00on long enough for the guys the Calvary to come down that's a big play from Taron Johnson he's only
13:065'11 192 we saw the ability of Jeremiah Love in college that's a huge solo tackle to set up
13:12third down
13:12all right those going quick not letting the Raiders get set Brissette Wilson first down Arizona
13:19Dean Eric Stokes to the outside inside the 30 yard line that's a pickup of 17 yeah this was more
13:25about the route
13:27the route by Michael Wilson that sold the inside and then got away with a little bit of a tug
13:32watch at the end see the little the push off
13:34there kind of turn Eric Stokes around you're not going to get that call in the NFL but that's a
13:38terrific job of using his hands to create separation and that's how he's able to make the completion
13:44Wilson's fourth year out of Stanford last year big time breakout year 78 grabs Tyler Algier coming over from the
13:53Falcons
13:53he had been the battering mate for Bajon Robinson the last few years now he's going to be with Jeremiah
13:59Love and it's a backfield for Arizona
14:01James Connor Trey Benson both still on this roster both coming off serious injuries last year
14:07you draft Love you sign out here you know they're trying to figure out what this is going to look
14:11like for them
14:11as well it's a crowded backfield and you only got one football so Jeremiah Love is going to get his
14:16touches
14:16you mentioned Connor and Tyler Algier who signed a free agency only one football
14:22second and three Algier cuts to the outside the big man showing some speed and he picks up a first
14:28down into the red zone to the 14 it's a seven yard scamper
14:32yeah this just has to be a late feel Jeremy Chin comes down too late he's got to make sure
14:36he keeps his outside hand free
14:38because he doesn't that's how you're able to get out here just watch the left side coming in late
14:42we'll see Jeremy Chin he's got to be a little more width see how he's chasing him now
14:45if he's got a little more a little more of a better angle have a little more width he turns
14:49that football back in
14:50it's a tackle for loss more upfield and force it back inside where you got some help
14:55now the Raiders open this preseason with a 10 play drive put it in the end zone this the 10th
15:00play of the Cardinals drive
15:02about a 33 year old Jacoby Brissett
15:06back to the big man good pursuit from behind
15:10and the Raiders stopping from no gain again it's Quay Walker
15:14talked about it in the open right chase
15:17downhill Quay Walker and the Kobe Dean chase run down that's what these linebackers do yeah they just
15:24win the line of scrimmage I mean look at all those black jerseys playing on that side
15:28you get penetration on the outside stretch
15:32talk about the size too Quay Walker 6'4 241 pounds
15:37when we're first round pick number 22 overall back in 2022
15:45Cardinals jumped again this gonna push him back five yards
15:49I really enjoyed our conversation start
15:52number 47 offense
15:54five yard penalty still second down really
15:57enjoyed our conversation with Raiders defensive
15:59coordinator Rob Leonard yesterday
16:01I mean he's a fun guy to be around
16:03he's energetic he's enthusiastic
16:05I think he's very relatable
16:07if you're a player but at the end of the day he said
16:09guys it's really simple
16:10it's about who could be the more physical team
16:12who can dominate the line of scrimmage
16:13I think this is an area of emphasis for the Raiders
16:16gotta be able to stop the run
16:17it was a real problem a season ago
16:19they were 17th against the run
16:26on second and 15
16:28Brissett has some pressure rolled out
16:30got himself some space
16:31it's a missed tackle inside the 10
16:34down to the seven yard line
16:36Kendrick Bourne
16:37in his tenth year out of Eastern Washington
16:40former Niner and Patriot
16:42last year was back at San Francisco
16:44for one season and it's third down and short
16:46he's worked his way up the profession
16:48you look at that I'm excited for him
16:50he you know he's done it the right way
16:51was in New York for six seasons before moving on to Miami
16:54where he spent three seasons before going to work
16:56for Mike McDonald in Baltimore
16:57fourth season with the Raiders I think he's a great teacher and communicator
17:03he told us yesterday he's been part of rebuilds
17:06he's been part of teams
17:06he knows what it looks like and how what's worked
17:08what doesn't
17:11great coverage
17:12they're set to the end zone
17:14into double coverage touchdown
17:17Marvin Harrison Jr.
17:18over the outstretched arms of
17:20Darian Porter
17:22a seven yard strike in the Cardinals
17:25answer here in the first quarter
17:26Porter was right there to make the play
17:28you just got to make the play
17:29I mean that's really good coverage
17:31it took a perfect throw and catch
17:33I mean you talked about it Rich
17:34just this whole entire group on the right side
17:36see how they communicate
17:37everybody's got their man
17:38oh man
17:39but that's just a terrific throw from Jacoby Brissette
17:41yeah Porter tried to undercut it
17:42he got to stay on the top
17:43I mean you come to the sideline
17:45he's in great position
17:46great position
17:46but turns around he finds the ball
17:48he just
17:48man
17:50it's another step
17:53very important part of the competition
17:57and that is missed by the kicker Chad Rylan
18:01there is a flag
18:03that actually went through
18:04did not miss it
18:05it went through
18:06but there is a flag down
18:07it'll be on the Raiders
18:08yep
18:10everybody jumped in the neutral zone
18:15Scott Campbell
18:16he's wearing the U
18:17as an umpire
18:19but here in the preseason
18:20some of the officials
18:21getting opportunities
18:22to wear the white hat
18:23part of the
18:25new emphasis
18:26to find those new officials
18:27here in the NFL
18:28he is the umpire on the crew
18:30but today he is the referee
18:34offside
18:35defense
18:37that penalty will be forced
18:38on the kickoff
18:39it tries good
18:42timeout
18:43so a 10 play
18:4473 yard answer
18:46Marvin Harrison
18:47in the end zone
18:47good offense here
18:49to start this ball game
18:50preseason week number one
18:52for the Raiders
19:01watching what they hope
19:02will also one day be a Super Bowl
19:04winning quarterback
19:05and Fernando Mendoza
19:06who is about to make
19:08his NFL debut
19:09Kirk Cousins got to start
19:11led the Raiders on a
19:12touchdown drive
19:13and now the number one
19:15overall pick
19:15is going to enter the game
19:16here on the Raiders second
19:17drive as soon as they touch
19:18this football
19:19I imagine his heart rate is
19:21up right now
19:22but you know I can remember
19:23my first preseason game
19:25and I just think you gotta
19:26find a way to slow it down
19:28I think it's all about
19:29completions
19:29it's getting him off to a
19:30good start
19:31gaining some confidence
19:32just let this guy go out
19:34and have some fun
19:37team had a practice here inside
19:39Allegiant Stadium
19:40no pads on Tuesday night
19:42but he said his heart rate
19:43was up just in fact
19:44you know this moment's about
19:46to be a little bit different
19:48Mike Washington jr. on the
19:50kickoff return
19:52and there's a flag thrown
19:54from the end zone
19:58we'll get that flag
19:59as Kirk Mendoza
20:00as Fernando Mendoza
20:02will push back a little bit
20:05but here he comes
20:05and here comes the crowd
20:08during the return
20:09holding
20:10number 34
20:11receiving team
20:1210-yard penalty
20:14from the spot of the foul
20:15first down
20:18Scott Campbell kind of
20:19drowned out the crowd
20:20a little bit there
20:20with the Mike
20:21but you get the idea
20:32you walk over the
20:33Hacienda Bridge
20:34you look around this
20:35stadium
20:35a lot of number 15s
20:37all over Allegiant
20:39stadiums
20:39the second ever
20:40number one pick
20:41in franchise history
20:45with his first
20:46NFL snap here
20:47in preseason
20:47and it's a handoff
20:48to Washington
20:50it's a couple of yards
20:52Gibbons the former
20:53Patriots linebacker
20:54stood him up
20:55well you know this
20:56about him
20:57he's a reliable
20:58decision maker
20:59you study his career
21:00in college
21:01especially those last
21:02couple years at Indiana
21:04very good accuracy
21:05anticipation
21:05yet the highest
21:07under pressure
21:08success rate of any
21:09quarterback
21:09in the FBS
21:11last season
21:11he's willing to sit in
21:12there and take a hit
21:14and throw the ball with
21:15great accuracy
21:17from the well
21:19got an empty set here on
21:21second down and eight
21:24good job thrown away
21:26does throw that away
21:27it's over the head
21:27Devin Tompkins
21:28on the receiver out there
21:30last year first ever
21:32Heisman Trophy winner
21:33at Indiana
21:33they led him to an
21:34undefeated season
21:36and the iconic play
21:37in the national
21:38championship game
21:39his team down
21:40stretching it across
21:41the goal line
21:42putting his body on the line
21:44all that excitement
21:45but everything they've
21:45talked about here in the
21:46offseason is
21:47they knew his preparation
21:49they knew that was special
21:51and they have said that
21:52has been the case
21:52as he faces his first
21:53third down here in the
21:55preseason
21:58he fires
21:59it's caught by Jack Bash
22:00right at the marker
22:01his second grab in the game
22:03and it's a first down
22:05great anticipation Rich
22:06yeah you could just feel the
22:07you could just feel the arm
22:08talent
22:09there's really not a place
22:10on the field that's a
22:11weakness for Fernando Mendoza
22:13and what I like about
22:14we talk about trust in the feet
22:16yep
22:16not a lot of wasted motions
22:18here the ball just takes
22:19the two quick hitches from
22:20the gun
22:21and he throws the ball
22:22gets it out accurately
22:24the best on the boundary
22:29both of Jack Bash's catches
22:31have been on third down
22:32pick up a first down
22:35and it's Washington
22:37picks up an extra yard or two
22:38after hit at the line
22:39did you remember the big thing
22:39about Fernando Mendoza is
22:41what?
22:41he didn't take snaps from
22:42under center at Indiana
22:43and you've seen already
22:44this drive he's got two snaps
22:46under center
22:46he's got two snaps and
22:48shotgun
22:48but I think it's second nature
22:50for him and shotgun
22:50we saw it on third down
22:51it's a hitch hitch and that
22:53balls out quickly
22:54he's showing with each
22:56practice how much better he's
22:57getting at the under center
22:59because we know what comes
23:00off of that in this Clint
23:01Kubiak offense
23:02the shots down the floor
23:03only three percent of his
23:04snaps came from under center
23:06last season
23:07but as you said he's spent a
23:09lot of time this spring
23:10working from under center
23:12under center here on this
23:13second down
23:14good job checking it down
23:17Washington jr. made the
23:18catch there was a flag
23:19thrown
23:20from the backfield
23:22is going to bring the
23:22Raiders back
23:24good example though of him
23:26working through his
23:26progressions in a corner
23:28flat
23:28number 60
23:30offense
23:3110 yard penalty from the
23:32previous spot
23:33still second down
23:34see how he works back
23:35though
23:35and he brings out the fake
23:37just watch the fake though
23:38because this is where he's
23:39got so much better
23:40see that fake watch his
23:41eyes and then he it's not
23:42there and he comes right
23:43back inside
23:45always say you never go
23:46broke taking a profit
23:48we're seeing we're seeing
23:49really good footwork from
23:50him
23:52as I said really good
23:53decision-making
23:53well and the Raiders
23:55starting offense not on
23:57the field it's not just
23:58Kirk Cousins the rest of
23:59the starters on the
23:59sideline to Cardinals are
24:01still playing with the
24:01starting defense
24:02Washington cannot hang
24:04on
24:05big-time hit
24:06made by the corner
24:08Menzel Burke
24:09and it'll be third down
24:10and long
24:11yeah that's that's one
24:12that Fernando he'll learn
24:13in this league
24:13that you've got to cover
24:15two cornerback sitting
24:16outside
24:17he has no work out there
24:18so he's looking for that
24:19type of play
24:20see the two safeties
24:21that's a cover to look
24:22he's got to know that that
24:23corner sitting right there
24:25who can come back and rob
24:26that play
24:26you've got to be able to
24:27protect whether it's a
24:28tight end or a running
24:29back
24:30as you said
24:31you've got to see that
24:32flat defender
24:34and that will be the
24:35running back in the
24:36backfield with Mendoza
24:38that'll be smart here
24:41in your draw
24:42give it to Lowby
24:43trying to find a couple
24:44of blockers
24:45picks up about eight yards
24:47back to the original
24:47line of scrimmage
24:48Cody Simon in on the
24:50stop
24:50and the Raiders will
24:52punt it away
24:54overcome the penalties
25:00a question everyone asks
25:01rich all week here now
25:03what do you want to see
25:04from your number one
25:05overall pick in the
25:06preseason
25:07holding penalties and all
25:08that stuff put them a little
25:09bit behind there yeah I think
25:09you look at the mechanics I
25:11think you want to see them
25:11let's you know play from
25:13under center they want to see
25:14the production and in the
25:15offense make good decisions
25:18and I just think move the
25:19football team that's what
25:20he's being paid to do
25:22A.J. Cole booms a 60-yard kick
25:26Devin Duvernay on the return
25:28and that is solid coverage
25:29by a rookie Dalton Johnson
25:33getting down there the fifth
25:34round pick out of Arizona
25:36Trayton Stook's teammate
25:37see Mendoza again he's going
25:39to get plenty of work today
25:40we're tied at seven late in
25:41the first quarter
25:48start this second quarter his
25:51first game since the college
25:52football playoff two years ago
25:54with Tennessee lost to Ohio State
25:56it's a Minshew dump down
25:58Cody Linderberg wraps up
26:00Jeremiah Love but Jermon
26:01McCoy really one of the big
26:02stories of the NFL draft
26:03most thought first-round talent
26:05knee issue some concern in
26:07their long term Raiders
26:08traded up one spot in the
26:09fourth round to take him on
26:11day three and they've worked
26:12him along and everyone's
26:13really excited to see what he
26:14can do and they've been
26:15managing him managing him
26:16all offseason and even
26:18during training camp you
26:18mentioned it has not played
26:20in the game since December
26:21of 2024 almost two calendar
26:24years so he's excited to be
26:25out there for sure number
26:2628 in black said today would
26:27be emotional and missed all
26:28last year at Tennessee
26:31Gardner Minshew has a first
26:32down with the other corner
26:34and the other rookie corner
26:36as a kind of masses fifth
26:38round pick out of Cal Jalen
26:39Brooks who had a big game
26:40last week in Canton it's a
26:42first down for Arizona yeah
26:43masters number 35 I've said
26:45he's been unafraid that's
26:47what he's shown so far
26:48during training camp and he's
26:50flirted with with the ones
26:51rotating in and out but he's
26:53a young player who has got a
26:54ton of ball skills led the
26:56nation actually last year and
26:58passes defense so he's going
26:59to get his hands on some
27:00football three rookies in that
27:02secondary right now it's kind
27:03of fun to watch suits playing
27:05the safety position as well
27:06the second round pick out of
27:09Arizona it's Jeremiah love
27:10again and Jackson held on to
27:13his jersey his teammates after a
27:15couple of yours your point
27:16that is is a big part of this
27:18Kirk you mentioned teams as
27:19well the former Notre Dame
27:22running back again getting the
27:24tote drags Jackson out near the
27:27first down looks like he's got
27:28enough late flag came in that way
27:33after the play now the Raiders
27:37have had three flags one on
27:39offense one on defense one on
27:40special teams so far in this
27:42ballgame personal foul number 44
27:51defense that 15-yard penalty will
27:55be added to the end of the run
27:56automatic first down Tommy
27:57Eichenberg in his third year out
27:59of Ohio State the former fifth
28:00round pick coming in late yeah I
28:04didn't see was that late I don't
28:05know but oh that's the one no
28:07going for the football you got to
28:08try to punch the ball out got to
28:10be smart the hit didn't look bad
28:13it was the punch man we talked
28:16about Quay Walker and the Kobe
28:17Dean you know what the middle of
28:19this defense looks like from the
28:20starters there's certainly a battle
28:21for the guys behind them Cody
28:23Lindenburg last year seventh round
28:25pick Tommy Eichenberg year before
28:27that both those guys in the middle of
28:29this defense here on this second
28:31drive for Arizona in a 7-7 preseason
28:33game right up the middle right into
28:37the arms of the defense for the
28:40silver and black Cody Lindenburg you
28:42know the Kobe Dean missed some time in
28:45minicamp back in June Lindenburg was
28:46running with the ones he did not get a
28:48single defensive snap last year in the
28:50regular season yeah but he's got a
28:51lot so far in training camp and he's
28:53showing if he's got an opportunity
28:54watch him right here get skinny he's
28:56going to get right here watch we call
28:57it get skinny when you got two guys
28:59trying to block you say skips right
29:00through there and go makes the play
29:01what's that big gap that's how you do
29:03it what you do with your opportunities
29:06and Cody Lindenburg one of those guys
29:07captains on the special teams now
29:09doing it on defense headers come with
29:10a blitz big shoe to the outside it's
29:12caught in front of Eichenberg McCoy
29:14finishes off the tackle Jalen Brooks
29:16he's got enough for the first down so
29:19the Cardinals on the move here again
29:24Gardner Minshew well traveled in his
29:26eighth year out of Washington State
29:27sixth round pick of the Jaguars back
29:29in 2019 a couple of really successful
29:32years one with Jacksonville one with
29:34Indianapolis this year when Patrick
29:37Mahomes got hurt he played in
29:38Tennessee it was towards the end of
29:39the season week 16 and then he
29:42fractured his tibia and that is only
29:43start battle to with Carson back for
29:48the backup spot with the Arizona
29:50Cardinals and off to Algier trying to
29:57pick his way Hezekiah masses came in
30:00to make the stop pick up about five
30:03yards on first down a little too much
30:04movement by this offensive line on
30:07this Raiders defensive front and
30:09you've got a running back and Algier
30:10was able to pick and choose where he
30:12wants to go but that's a big sign right
30:14there number 35 coming in making a
30:16play because Hezekiah masses everyone
30:18said that he's too small he's he's not
30:20a tackler he's not a physical player
30:22well number 35 coming in put some
30:24shoulder pad on Algier I like that for
30:26the young rookie it's only 179 pounds
30:29six-foot rookie year out of cow
30:32and you're rolling out Brooks all alone
30:35solid tackle in open space greedy
30:39Vance he's also not big 5-10-168 but
30:44he brought down Jalen Brooks in open
30:46space nice job of recovery that's what
30:49he did he saw the play that ball was
30:51thrown and just watch the patience
30:53see come back flips around and watch
30:56that outside see you're taught to go
30:58after the outside knee the outside leg
31:01that's how you get the tackle that's
31:02a nice open field play by green
31:03events we're on the sidelines
31:07Cardinals here tonight three for three
31:09on third down this third down and two
31:12on the Raiders 20-yard line timeout
31:17taken Las Vegas quick coup back first
31:21year head coach taking that first
31:23timeout Las Vegas their first half 30
31:29seconds five minutes gone by here in
31:31the second we'll keep it right here
31:32ten new coaches this year in the NFL
31:35two of them here on displays goals as
31:38well on third down into the backfield
31:40love breaks the tackle first down
31:41Arizona and the number three overall
31:44pick picks up 11 yards here on
31:47Crawford got back there in the third
31:49round pick out of Auburn couldn't
31:50make the tackle and that's just a
31:51special running back if you give him
31:53that angle he's gonna take that every
31:55single time yeah well they get out
31:57flanked here on the corner for sure
31:58the out playing a double team you
32:00get someone running up to the but
32:02that's the gap but that's the Notre
32:03Dame highlight reel we saw from
32:05Jeremiah love all last season that
32:07particular play racing to the
32:08outside there's no edge you have no
32:10chance in tackling Jeremiah love
32:13Jeremiah love 21 total touchdowns
32:16last year for Notre Dame a new
32:18record for the school from South Bend
32:20and Minshew to the end zone semi
32:21Fajoko touchdown he had one catch
32:26last week it was in the end zone
32:28he's got one here and touchdowns for
32:30Fajoko and back-to-back weeks for
32:32the Cardinals yeah this on the
32:35rookie Jermon McCoy we're just
32:36talking about him you get down here
32:38near the goal line you've got to be
32:40able to be more physical and watch
32:42Fajoko he's the guy that was the
32:44more physical player at the end it
32:45was a little bit of a push-off at the
32:47end right here we got the right here
32:49see watch the push-off by Fajoko just
32:52extends that left arm all he needs a
32:53little bit of space high points the
32:55football and gets the touchdown six
32:57foot four your hands up in the air
32:59Rylan clanked it off the upright went
33:01through on the last extra point this
33:03one drifts the other way but sails
33:06through the uprights and Arizona two
33:08drives here inside Allegiant Stadium
33:10both in the end zone they are
33:12continuing their offensive role that
33:14they put on display last week in
33:16Canton Ohio we'll see Fernando Mendoza
33:19coming back out on the next drive for
33:21the Raiders oh that's crazy
33:36it was bingo yeah football league and
33:40rushing in 2002 the National Football
33:42League and passing you don't do that
33:44without a great offensive line do it
33:45differently right in 2000 UFC
33:47championship shows a little bit of
33:48the versatility that and that's
33:49really what we're trying to get here
33:50now a good offensive line that we can
33:52rely on we got the running back we've
33:54got some tight ends and we're trying
33:56to develop a young quarterback and
33:57the way you do that is you surround
33:59them with really talented players
34:02especially up front go off to Malik
34:04Benson the rookie out of Oregon his
34:06first chance in the silver black
34:08is upended Carson Shire the rookie
34:14linebacker out of Iowa with a violent
34:16hit the first intent talked a lot in
34:20camp Malik Benson certainly is at his
34:23presence felt solid hit in his first
34:25touch of the NFL be careful leaving
34:27your feet the dangerous thing to do it's
34:32a different kickoff in the NFL right
34:33we're in college football still the old
34:36traditional kicking it off from 35 a
34:38little bit different you come to the
34:39NFL the guys are already there he's
34:41learning on the job now Mendoza was
34:44one for three nine-yard completion to
34:46Jack Besh on his first drive his
34:50offense was pushed back on a penalty
34:51against Charles Grant the left tackle
34:54it's a play fake on first down down the
34:57field what a strike to Benson oh man did
35:01he thread that between three defenders
35:03it's a laser I saw that Rich that's a
35:06laser I'll tell you what it's a tight
35:07window as well but if you look at the
35:09good fake off of play action it's
35:12gonna head right downhill he's gonna
35:13get right back here and he's very
35:15deliberate it's a great job holding
35:18the linebacker look at him puncture that
35:19ball between the linebackers and
35:21safety that's a great throw by the
35:23rookie quarterback he's doing it again
35:26with a play fake escaping the pocket
35:28there is a flag thrown both the
35:31backfield and in the secondary and he
35:33throws it away with Cody Simon in his
35:35face holding some of the Cardinals
35:38defensive starters are still in this
35:40ballgame here in the second quarter
35:46might be holding both sides there was a
35:48flag deep in the secondary down the
35:50field we got one in the backfield as
35:52well there are two fouls on the play
35:58one by each team illegal contact
36:01defense number 29 personal foul
36:04tripping number 58 offense those
36:08fouls will offset replay first down
36:1258 Jackson powers Johnson start
36:15tonight at right guard still playing
36:17in here with the rest of this offensive
36:19line he and Caleb Rogers have really
36:21been rotating at right guard throughout
36:23camp got Trey soon third round pick
36:27in at right tackle he has been playing
36:30lately here in camp so it is first and
36:32ten again it is Mike Washington jr
36:35getting to the outside and another flag
36:37flies in from the secondary you saw the
36:40burst you see the size but we'll see
36:42what the penalty is like this young back
36:45spent three seasons University of
36:47Buffalo before transferring to New
36:48Mexico State in 2024 and then to
36:51Arkansas big physical back
36:57holding number 85 offense 10 yard
37:01penalty still first down that is
37:03Albert Okwe Boonham out on the outside
37:06and he just got yeah both hands on
37:08Max Milton yeah he's got him right
37:09there but Mike Washington again when
37:12he gets those shoulders square and you
37:14see he's running the daylight nice job
37:16of setting up the block and I think
37:18Okwe Boonham expected him to go
37:20inside rather than go to the outside
37:22you ran this stretch zone before rich
37:24you know that ball supposed to stay
37:25inside but when you get out there no
37:27man's land it's kind of difficult for
37:28an offensive player to block you got
37:30that's five penalties on the Raiders
37:32here in about a quarter and a half
37:34of football a straight eye formation
37:37for Washington to run behind and he's
37:40into daylight so he gets a block
37:42Mike Washington Jr. all the way down
37:46to the 12 yard line he rips off a
37:5056 yard run and the block by Connor
37:54Hayward sprung him
38:01you're gonna see the lead block and
38:03it just watch the explosiveness once
38:05he gets through the line of scrimmage
38:06and once he gets up on the second
38:07level great quickness great elusive
38:10great stiff arm
38:13could be violent on those inside
38:15runs excellent speed and big play
38:16potential when you get him in space
38:18again what do I say see his shoulders
38:19are always square and so the
38:21defenders kind of bounce off because
38:23of the shoulder square he never leans
38:25or tells you where he's going and
38:26then when he finds daylight it's
38:28good night officially a 53 yarder for
38:31the rookie out of Arkansas and you had
38:34everyone move and Jordan Meredith
38:36never snapped the football all right
38:39rich when that happens who got it
38:40wrong a good chance it was the
38:42center's fault let's throw that out
38:44there can't have we talk about the
38:47rules of the red zone false start
38:50everyone but the center offense
38:53five yard penalty first down
38:54appreciate Scott Campbell's humor
38:56there's got to be a sense of
38:58urgency when you get down inside the
38:5920 and we talk about it all the
39:01time you can't have penalties you
39:03can't have sacks and you can't have
39:04turnovers it'd be disciplined in
39:06this part of the field this is an
39:07area we talk about an area of
39:09improvement an area of emphasis this
39:10offseason has been situational
39:12football particularly this part of
39:14the field last couple years the
39:15Raiders settle for way too many field
39:17goals down here in the red zone
39:19Jordan Meredith did start 11 games
39:21last year nine of them at center to
39:22it guard battling for the backup
39:26center spot behind Linderbaum so
39:28first and 15 back shoulder throw and
39:30it is broken up on the outside
39:33Denzel Burke fighting with Benson
39:36crowd wants pass interference on the
39:38second year pro out of Ohio State
39:40they didn't get it now would love to
39:41because his left hand was draped all
39:43over Malik Benson watch the left hand
39:45of Burke it's right there and see how
39:46he pulls down he restricts the wide
39:48receiver from making a play that is
39:51pass interference
39:54Wow
39:58well remember replay assists right
40:00introduced last year can take away
40:03flags that are obvious because they
40:04cannot add flags that clearly was
40:08pass interference on the Cardinals
40:10so instead it's second down to 15
40:11Mendoza in the pocket again he takes
40:14off with his legs Mendoza takes a couple
40:17of hits bounces off a couple of
40:18defenders picked up about seven
40:21yards Walter Nolan last year's first
40:23round pick for the Cardinals made the
40:25stop it'll be third down the thing I
40:26like about about Mendoza is he's got
40:29some size he's almost six foot five
40:30he's 235 pounds and when he pulls it
40:34down he can he can pick up a few first
40:37downs and learn to protect himself
40:39though
40:41well he didn't run for 276 yards last
40:44year for Kurt Signetti and the Hoosiers
40:47seven touchdowns none more famous than
40:49the one to beat Miami in the national
40:50championship game Washington back in the
40:53game Mendoza back to the air inside the
40:55five Benson has it he's wrapped up by
40:58Melton question is did he reach the
41:00marker it looks like he's just shy and
41:04the Raiders are going to keep the
41:05offense on the field they're on fourth
41:06down great anticipatory throw from
41:10Fernando gave him an opportunity see
41:12the opportunity to turn it up and get
41:14the first but this is great work right
41:16here a fourth down opportunity for the
41:18offense this is where the Raiders
41:20struggled last year in this fourth and
41:21third down short yardage situation see
41:24what Clint Kubiak dials up Washington back
41:27in there they got the fullback Hayward back
41:31in there as well he less than a yard
41:34play clock down to three Mendoza turns
41:37Washington lowers the shoulder he's got
41:40the first down Washington jr. got them
41:44into the red zone with the 53 yard run
41:47and he keeps the drive going yeah nice
41:50little block by Antonio Maffi he was
41:52playing the left guard position he comes
41:54around and a nice job of staying patient
41:56was Mike Washington to get the tough
41:59yard for a first down that you know
42:00what this is a good reminder of is
42:02that it's fun to be back guys talking
42:04football by the way it's seven months
42:06since the Raiders lined up and beat the
42:09Chiefs here in week 18 on a 60 yard
42:11field goal a lot of things different but
42:13one to get in the end zone not that's
42:15not different Mendoza pumping pressure
42:18in trouble and he sacked Walter Nolan
42:23back at the 11 yard line it's a loss of
42:26seven
42:30at what point do you throw it away rich
42:32you know you'd like to have that one
42:33back he starts if you watch his eyes
42:36he's gonna start to his right not
42:39there he's working back to his left and
42:40at that point it just closes in on you
42:44see some man-to-man coverage we know
42:47where to throw it
42:50they got a little more space here now
42:54with second goal back at the 12 Mendoza
42:56to throw again scanning the secondary
42:58he's got Ian Thomas trying to spin out
43:02of a tackle the veteran tight end in his
43:05ninth year also a Hoosier alum bring up
43:08third down and goal from the six thing I
43:10what I like about him is he looks
43:11comfortable in the congested muddy
43:13pocket there's no panic you just watch
43:15his feet he's just going through his
43:18progressions he's in rhythm and he's
43:21he's working the entire field
43:27late to come back to Thomas but puts it
43:30in a good spot on Murphy bunting the
43:32veteran corner made the stop here's
43:34third and goal and put it in the end
43:36zone try and tie up this game Mendoza
43:39there's a quick throw
43:39it's caught
43:44the man the lion with his first
43:47rider touchdown it goes to Jack
43:49Bess
44:03Rich he put that in the perfect spot
44:05over the middle they're really nice he
44:06gets it up and down really quick and
44:08watch where watch how low this ball is he
44:10protects the receiver low and away
44:15really nice job with ball location by
44:18Mendoza they just give you four verts up
44:21the field and Fernando actually threw that
44:24one like a hot route as if he was
44:25expecting pressure that's why the ball
44:27was where it is but it was all about
44:29the ball placement by Fernando Mendoza
44:32now Raiders fans hoping to see this a lot
44:35over the next well you decide how many
44:38years Mendoza puts it in the end zone
44:41celebrates with his teammates
44:48score that oh yeah I definitely asked to Jack
44:52bash couple really nice throws rich on that
44:54drive yeah in the pocket out of rhythm working
44:58through his progressions you know spreading
45:01the ball around the tight end the back the receivers
45:04but they did what you were asking you know
45:07what you asked earlier you got to run the
45:08football I think 53 yarder by Mike
45:10watch that sets it all up and you see the
45:12confidence from Fernando right after that
45:13play
45:15third year the dynamic kickoff in the NFL
45:18Devin DuVernay on the receiving end for
45:21the Cardinals out across the 20 and solid
45:25coverage by the Raiders to get down there
45:28it's a 22 yard return Patrick Johnson was the
45:32first down there but now you got to see the
45:33Raiders Gardner Minshew let a touchdown drive
45:36after Jacoby percent open this game with a
45:3810-play touchdown drive
45:39you see a little bit more here from the
45:41defense yeah to me it's just really the
45:43corners on the outside I gotta get a little
45:45more physical because right now they're
45:47playing off and then sometimes they're
45:48playing on but they're not staying on
45:50top of their coverage and that's where
45:52Gardner Minshew so far has found a couple
45:55of open guys and extended drives how about
45:57that Devin DuVernay getting his shoes tied by
45:59Gardner Minshew Rich whose shoes did you
46:01tie 20 years ago anyway I would have tied
46:04the offensive lineman shoes you never
46:07tied Tim Brown's or she never asked me
46:09his shoelaces never came untied for
46:13love into the hole remember the Cardinals
46:16last week played in the Hall of Fame
46:18game against Carolina so they are one of
46:21the two teams this year having four
46:22preseason games starters did not play last
46:24week did open this game Jeremiah love
46:27getting extensive work here in this first
46:29half yeah but to head coach Michael
46:31flew a bit surprising to me I think this
46:34is my you know the third overall pick in
46:36the draft I think I've seen enough he's
46:37shown already he can make some plays
46:40I park him right next to me on the
46:42sideline if I'm Michael floor it's
46:47back-to-back handoffs oh he shows the
46:50burst too now he saw the 53-yard run by
46:54Mike Washington masses combines on the
46:56tackle for the Raiders yep I'm putting
46:59him in bubble wrap and see you September
47:0013th I mean he's a special back he's
47:02gonna be a fun back to watch very
47:04special and it all started really with
47:07Ashton Gentie the year before Ashton
47:08go six and everyone so how do you take a
47:10running back that high then look at that
47:12cut there goes Jeremiah love who gets
47:14taken number three overall this year so to
47:16me we see the importance in that running
47:18back we you see what the price that is
47:20for a running back in the National
47:21Football League Jameer Gibbs got the big
47:23contract obviously B. John Robinson
47:25they're paying running backs now rich
47:27by the way at times and obviously
47:29Saquon Barker a couple years ago
47:34oh god that's crazy it was bingo yeah
47:42I just got one right now
47:45what was it I love you I love you bruh I
47:51love you bruh I love you bruh I love you
47:54bruh I love you bruh hey love brother
47:57love you found my earring on the field
48:02the Cardinals Panthers is Mike Tirico described one of the most entertaining offensive
48:10preseason games maybe ever we're seeing that continuation here in this ballgame first for
48:15the Raiders second for Arizona both offenses have clicked at a high level here in the first
48:20half fresh set of downs for the Cardinals coming out of the two-minute warning back to
48:25jeremiah love and he has a defender oh man has he been impressive here in the first half
48:32jeremiah love up to 58 yards are in this opening half for Arizona
48:37yeah you got got to get on blocks if you don't do that jeremiah love is going to hurt you
48:40you see the explosion and the speed through the hole but nobody's getting off blocks see everybody's blocked you got
48:46to get off blocks and make plays when it comes to tackling jeremiah love
48:53it's it again stunners in the backfield and he is crunched maybe a yard patrick johnson the raiders signed at
49:01the start of camp and his sixth year out of tulene came up to make the hit
49:07got to be able to get off blocks been saying it
49:10look at this defense they want to feel a lot last season's the offense was dead last in time of
49:15possession
49:15the raiders have to play complimentary football this year and shoe underneath drops it to the tight end
49:21that's quatoriano tegan quatoriano it'll be third down and a timeout taking arizona with 59 seconds to be las vegas
49:30taking the timeout
49:31las vegas their second of the half
49:34please put one minute one second on the game clock
49:38around the raiders take this time out you think about the two hey if you get off the field you
49:42get good work for fernando mendoza
49:43maybe with 50 seconds left can the defense get off the field and give them that chance for clink kubiak
49:54stop you get a chance for your rookie quarterback to have late work in an end of half situation but
50:00the defense has got to get a stop cardinals perfect on third down and they still are
50:11they are five for five this time he matches his playing off so i'm a little bit surprised he's playing
50:16off third and five and would love to see him going up there and jamming at the line of scrimmage
50:20that's too easy back to the air inside of the 15-yard line back to jalen brooks
50:28now arizona's quarterbacks have not had an incompletion yet they are 13 of 13. they take their first time out
50:38of the half we'll take it with them
50:40ike laflora's offense has been impressive
50:47now 33 seconds left here in the half arizona's offense 186 yards
50:52jacoby brissette gardner mitchu 13 of 13 against this raiders defense
50:56at his second round pick trading stooks number 38 overall out of arizona
51:01very versatile player had a big time camp talked to rob leonard about him a lot yesterday
51:08his defense particularly secondaries struggled a little bit here in the first half
51:15fresh set it down for minshu in the red zone dumps it short love and he's wrapped up by eichenberg
51:22picks up seven yards and another timeout taken by arizona with 27 seconds left in the half
51:29timeout arizona second half 30 seconds and we'll keep it right here
51:35see birth both first-time head coaches didn't give up the plate calling responsibilities
51:43and you were the floor you were saying that you like that well you know look it's what got you
51:46the job in the first place
51:48and now all of a sudden you become a head coach and you hand it over to somebody maybe doesn't
51:51have the experience
51:52or isn't as good at it you know i just think it's a huge mistake you can control the pace
51:57and the flow of the game
51:58by being the play caller and i think it's great that clint chose to do that as well as mike
52:04lafleur
52:08comes into the backfield for the cardinals on second down
52:13gets the handoff through that first tackle he does not have the first down the mark of shy
52:20and lafleur will take his final timeout of the half with about 20 seconds to go
52:26timeout arizona last of the half 30 seconds in length yeah watch the left side of the screen
52:31eikenberg coming off he's an off-ball linebacker that time he was on the ball
52:37and got there just enough time to have him short of first down
52:42but you know in preseason and every coach will tell you hey it's going to be vanilla we just want
52:46to see how do we tackle
52:47correct how do we line you know all those communication things can we get us down can someone make the
52:52play all those things this is a perfect opportunity
52:53well it's also unique too that the raiders are going to play these two teams in the in the regular
52:58season as well in the preseason
52:59that's the cardinals and also the san francisco 49ers so how much do you want to show in the preseason
53:04as well
53:04oh boy they're your regular season opponents next week with houston in between and now las vegas takes its final
53:10timeout of the half
53:14third down and short coming up here timeout las vegas that's the last of the half
53:2130 seconds
53:24it's just been the tackling today and it's the first opportunity they've had live going down to the ground and
53:30we've seen some guys who've been a little bit better at it than others
53:33the veteran players terran johnson quay walker you see the young masses coming in i've been impressed with a lot
53:40of the tackle that they've made i think the big part in this first half is just the coverage
53:44gotta get a little stickier gotta get a little more on top but i've been impressed with the tackling so
53:49far
53:50saw quay walker and the starters on defense for rob renner a new defensive coordinator for the opening drive
53:58looking at the top of your screen
54:02both teams out of timeouts they're going right there back shoulder touchdown
54:08jalen brooks
54:09was big on the drive a six yard score
54:13almost similar to the touchdown on the last drive to pahoko
54:17and arizona three drives three touchdowns here in their second preseason game
54:21take me in the mind of a quarterback why circle him
54:24why is that why is that the guy to throw to rich
54:26well no one's been able to cover him so far
54:28and he liked the matchup on a rookie corner
54:32he's been there a couple of plays
54:34he's in position you know he's in position but that's two touchdowns he's given up to that
54:37look in the nfl it's it's you got guys with size
54:40you get you know you can get a good throw
54:43these guys use their body to extend
54:45again we gotta remember
54:46this is his first football game in almost two years
54:48i know so i'm gonna give javon mccoy a little bit of a break here
54:51but you're gonna get opportunity in football
54:53in two years yeah you're gonna get tested
54:55gardner minshu doesn't care
54:56you know the cardinals don't care they're gonna
54:58if they they find an opportunity
55:00if they feel that there's a weakness they're gonna go after
55:02and if you're gardner minshu think about this
55:05you you didn't play last week
55:06you you watched carson back third round pick
55:09out of miami by way of georgia
55:10and keaton slovis just light up carolina
55:13everyone for a week because that was the only
55:15football game that's been played
55:16has been to oh is carson back gonna be the
55:18jacoby percent comes out he's perfect
55:20touchdown drive and now minshu with two
55:22touchdowns we always talk about it as quarterbacks
55:24we talk about situational awareness we talk about
55:26personnel being aware of who's on
55:28the field is it regular is it
55:30nickels at dime who's covering on
55:32the right side is it a rookie is it a veteran
55:34player obviously at this point in the
55:36game in the preseason you can have a lot of young
55:37players out there and gardner
55:40minshu took advantage of the
55:42opportunity
55:44see if we can get a decent kickoff
55:47return here with 17 seconds
55:48raiders are out of timeout so
55:51have to do that to give mendoza
55:53a chance here in the final 17
55:54seconds of the half
55:59chad rylan's just gonna boot
56:00this all the way through the endzone now remember
56:02touchbacks if you boot it in the air
56:04with this new year of the nfl kick the
56:06third year it's all the way out to the 35
56:08yard line
56:09and see if clint kubiak lets
56:11fernando try and take a couple shots to the
56:13sideline gabby interesting right from the
56:1535
56:18there you go line it up put it on 35
56:19there you go they got a couple seconds
56:21what are you thinking right here rich i
56:23know on defense you're saying hey guard
56:25the sideline we can't have the big play but
56:27offensively you can get a big play
56:29and try to clock it and try to get the big
56:31field goal you know that that throw that he had
56:33earlier early in the last possession
56:35where he punctured the ball down the middle of
56:37field but you like to use the boundary like a
56:39deep bench route they're just gonna
56:41run out the clock
56:49so mendoza takes and he got a couple of drives here in the first half the second very impressive
56:56he punctured that in the endzone on a touchdown to jack pass you had a solid first half in your
57:01number two
57:02it is the raiders though heading into the locker room down a touchdown here
57:05gert cousin started the game had a touchdown drive as well we're getting clint kubiak here on the headset
57:11hit and he hit
57:12hit and he hit
57:12hit and he hit
57:12hit and he hit
57:12hit and he hit
