00:00Fox Sports welcomes you to the following presentation of the National Football League.
00:13Welcome back to MetLife Stadium. I'm Megan Olevy.
00:16Well, the travel in from Minnesota did not go exactly to plan for the Vikings.
00:21Shortly after takeoff, their team plane suffered a mechanical issue
00:24and had to turn around landing back in Minneapolis.
00:27And Aaron Jones told me he and many of his teammates were quite confused
00:30when they woke up thinking that they would be in the New York City area.
00:34But head coach Kevin O'Connell said the over five-hour delay
00:37was easily navigated by players and coaches alike.
00:40All they needed, guys, were about 400 Chick-fil-A sandwiches to help pass the time.
00:46Landed about 1046 in the evening.
00:49All I heard was Chick-fil-A.
00:52Forget the delay. You get some free Chick-fil-A out of it.
00:55It was worth it.
00:57Playing a Chick-fil-A for the Vikings during their delay.
01:01There's Mike Kafka in his fifth game as Giants interim head coach.
01:08Giants have lost eight straight.
01:12Their new kicker, Ben Soles, will get things started.
01:16Vikings won the toss. Well received.
01:19On a 44-degree afternoon.
01:23We were here last week.
01:24A little bit cooler last Sunday.
01:26That's an understatement.
01:27It's snowing was coming into the booth.
01:29We were getting all the snowflakes.
01:31And you know how much I love the snow, right, Kenny?
01:33So I was just enjoying every moment of that.
01:37Jonathan, much happier today.
01:39I got a big smile on my face right now.
01:42Sun is out.
01:43No snow.
01:44Life is good.
01:45Miles Price, second of the NFL, and return yards.
01:55It's back deep.
01:57Kickoff is out of bounds from Soles, the fourth kicker of the season.
02:03Out of bounds.
02:04Ball will be placed at the 40-yard line.
02:08So this will give the Vikings excellent field position.
02:11Alex Gore, our referee, J.J. McCarthy, leading the Minnesota offense out.
02:16And he's had a really good last couple of games.
02:19J.J. McCarthy wanted to be that franchise quarterback.
02:22They have a lot of faith in him.
02:23I like the way that he's able to spread the ball, distribute the wealth.
02:26You know he has that running ability.
02:28They want to see him be more consistent, staying in the pocket.
02:31Last week versus the Cowboys, a career high in pass.
02:34Two touchdowns, two touchdowns to add to it.
02:37So let's see if he can continue to stack these good games together for this Vikings offense.
02:42Passes batted back by Tyler Newbin.
02:51Yeah, you're really similar to last week versus the Cowboys.
02:55Same thing, he had a ball batted down and got, or excuse me, batted into an interception early in the game.
03:00Tyler Newbin, nice job.
03:01And you can see that the interim defensive coordinator, Charlie Bowling, he's dialing it up ASAP, right?
03:06He's got Tyler Newbin coming on that blitz.
03:09He's done a lot of fire zones the last couple of weeks.
03:11I like the aggressive nature that Charlie Bowling is coming with today.
03:16Tyler Newbin, the fly.
03:17Minnesota Gopher in the second season with the Giants.
03:21Second and ten, this is Jones.
03:24And he is pottled up behind the line of scrimmage with Chauncey Colston.
03:29Leading the way along with Abdul Carter.
03:31And this offense looked really good last week versus the Cowboys.
03:36And, you know, you're always going to talk about this offense.
03:39You have to talk about Justin Jefferson and what he's meant to the offense since he's been with the Vikings.
03:43And he is a phenomenal wide receiver.
03:46One of the best, if not the best, in the NFL.
03:49So, finding ways to get him to football, that's a priority, right?
03:52And, frankly, it shouldn't even go as something that needs to be said, right?
03:56He's just such a good player.
03:57Any time you throw the ball this way, good things will happen.
04:01Third down and 11 for the Vikings on their opening possession.
04:06McCarthy's pass caught by Jefferson.
04:10And he fights his way across midfield for a Vikings first down on third and 11.
04:16McCarthy to Jefferson for 13 yards.
04:19I just love when guys make me right.
04:21Justin Jefferson, throw the ball behind the first down yardage.
04:24Let him use his athletic ability.
04:26So, you see that one little move and that burst to get to the sideline
04:29and get upfield and get a first down for the Vikings.
04:36Nine straight games without 100-plus receiving yards.
04:39Longest drive of his career.
04:41Through no fault of his.
04:42I watch him.
04:43The separation is there.
04:44They just got to force the football to him a little more.
04:47From the Giants 48, this is Jordan Mason.
04:51Litted rusher for the Vikings this season.
04:53Nubin makes the tackle after a game of five as we check out the Giants' starting defense.
05:02And this defense, we thought that they would come in and play really well all season long.
05:06Hasn't been that.
05:07But who has played well?
05:09Brian Burns.
05:10Brian Burns has been phenomenal for this Giants defense.
05:13Career high in sacks.
05:15He's been the bright spot.
05:16The unquestioned leader for this defense.
05:19So, I want to see him have a good game.
05:21Christian Derisal, left tackle for the Vikings.
05:24He's not going to be in today.
05:25See if Brian Burns can match up against their backup.
05:27Three tight ends on the field.
05:30And this is one of them.
05:31Josh Oliver.
05:33Oliver picks up the Vikings' first down.
05:37Knocked out of bounds at the Giants 31 after a pickup of 12.
05:41Yeah, what an interesting play, right?
05:42This actually ends up being a tight end screen.
05:44Josh Oliver is just going to sit there.
05:46He's going to let Abdul Carter kind of go, rush, rush.
05:49Let him fly by.
05:50And then now, here you go.
05:52Go ahead.
05:52Take the ball.
05:53You can run.
05:53You got three offensive linemen out there blocking for you.
05:57Get there.
05:57Get a first down.
05:58Nice job.
05:58Nice play call.
06:03Mason in the backfield along with the fullback, CJ Hamm.
06:07From the 31-yard line, it's Mason up the middle.
06:11Not much.
06:14Remember, the Vikings had a third down at 11 earlier in this drive.
06:17Converted.
06:19Yep, Justin Jefferson picked up that first down with his legs.
06:22And they've had a nice balance of running pass.
06:25Vikings, one of the rare teams that still keep that fullback.
06:29CJ Hamm blocking for Jordan Mason and Aaron Jones.
06:32And you'll see a nice dose of both of those guys in the game.
06:36Jordan Mason, as big as he is, he's still very shifty, right?
06:39He can get to the outside.
06:41He can punish those defenders.
06:42They like using him.
06:43He's going to be in on third down right now.
06:45And then you have the plethora of receivers for J.J. McCarkey to throw to.
06:50Second down at 10.
06:51There he is.
06:52McCarthy gets rid of it.
06:54It's Mason.
06:56To the 25-yard line of the Giants.
07:00And Mason took a shot.
07:03About two guys converging on him.
07:05And he's still down right now.
07:07That was a big hit that they put on him.
07:08It's like Bobby O'Kara Kay.
07:21Bam.
07:22Comes in and takes a shot on Jordan Mason.
07:26Drew Phillips also wrapping his legs up.
07:29And he's still down.
07:37So the Vikings medical staff tending to Jordan Mason.
07:42There we go.
07:44Now back up on his feet.
07:46Cutting to the sidelines.
07:47The Vikings have won their last two games over Washington and Dallas.
07:57They've scored 65 points in the process.
08:00And that will be without Mason as they face a third down and four.
08:07Yeah.
08:07So here comes Aaron Jones who's also really good in the passing game.
08:11He knows how to set the protections.
08:13He knows what he's going to get as well.
08:15Looks like they also bring in C.J. Hamm.
08:17So they have C.J. Hamm now coming in third down back.
08:23And then they have T.J. Hockinson who's going to be cut.
08:26Little massive split.
08:29There's T.J. Hockinson in a little massive split.
08:33Third down and four.
08:35McCarthy fires to the end zone.
08:39He was looking for Addison.
08:47So the Vikings now sent out the field goal unit.
08:50Now take a look at Dexter Lawrence and the pressure.
08:52He's going to get right up the gut.
08:54And this is why J.J. McCarthy had to throw this a little early.
08:57They've been wanting to see this from Dexter Lawrence all season long.
09:00He can bully any offensive lineman one-on-one.
09:04J.J. McCarthy actually throws a very nice ball.
09:07Oh, Jordan Addison.
09:09He usually holds on to that.
09:11There is a frustration because that's a touchdown.
09:13So here's Will Ryker who's had an outstanding season.
09:19Connects from 43 yards out to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead over the Giants.
09:29Addison unable to hang on.
09:35This holiday, Verizon has got the craziest deal ever.
09:39Four iPhone hoobots.
09:40Who knew Walmart delivers that fast?
09:44I hope your situationship likes it.
09:49The new year begins with the holiday ball.
09:56Wow.
09:56Arizona takes on SMU January 2nd on Fox.
10:01Today's game is sponsored by Verizon, the best 5G network.
10:04There's only one best.
10:06J.J. McCarthy on the Vikings out to a 3-0 lead here at MetLife Stadium.
10:18A nice-looking drive from them.
10:19They had a few screens.
10:20It was pretty easy for J.J. McCarthy.
10:23Tried to get the run game going and then went over the top.
10:27Could have been, should have been a touchdown.
10:29Jordan Addison dropped the football, but they come away with three points.
10:32Nice-looking drive on the road.
10:33So, now the Giants await their first opportunity.
10:40With Gunnar Olszewski.
10:42And Deontay backs back deep.
10:45Olszewski missed last week's game.
10:53Vikings send out Ryan Wright.
10:55You're allowed to set out a 12th player on a kickoff as a holder, but he must immediately return to the sidelines.
11:02Yep.
11:02You can even see the sky cam is moving a little bit.
11:20That's how windy it is.
11:21So, Wright heads off the field.
11:26Kickoff taken at the 9 by Banks.
11:28Yonte Banks down to the 35-yard line as Jackson Dart gets it to make his 10th start of the season for the Giants.
11:40And I've been very impressed with Jackson Dart, the way he's played, the composure he plays with, and his ability to create, extend the plays.
11:48You see all the nice passes.
11:49We know all about the run game and what he does as he tries to extend these plays.
11:54So, what I want to see from him is being in the pocket more.
11:57If he has to extend the play, yes, do it.
12:00But keep your eyes downfield.
12:01Look for the throw as opposed to going for the run every time.
12:07Giants head down three tight ends.
12:09Here's one of them, Bellinger, was in the backfield.
12:12He's leading the way for Tyrone Tracy, who puts up the first down and more into Minnesota Vikings territory.
12:20Gate of 18 for Tracy on first down.
12:23Yeah, and this is the way to neutralize that Brian Flores-led defense when you start running the football.
12:29And that has been the Achilles heel for this Vikings defense.
12:32Last year, they were second in the NFL versus the run.
12:35This year, 24th in the NFL versus the run.
12:39And I can also say that there was one player that they traded away, Harrison Phillips.
12:44He went to the Jets.
12:45He was the reason they were so stout up front.
12:47They've been missing that this season.
12:49Bellinger remains in fullback.
12:50It's Tracy up the middle.
12:52So, two carries, two first downs for Tracy.
12:57Gained 18 on the first run and now 13 yards.
13:00And what you're seeing is they're going right up the gut.
13:03And they're challenging the middle of this defense because you can't disguise that, right?
13:07There are no fronts that you can do to disguise running up the gut.
13:11There's nothing you can do.
13:12It's going to be the offensive lineman, getting a hat on a hat, Tyrone Tracy, finding the hole,
13:16hitting it with the burst that he just did, and picking up another first down for the Giants.
13:20Now the Vikings send in Levi Drake-Rodriguez.
13:23Is it hot?
13:25Green end to your set.
13:27From the 34, it's Tracy again.
13:31And this time, not much after he picked up 31 yards.
13:36The Giants' first two plays from scrimmage.
13:39Yeah, Brian Flores had enough of that, none of the gimmicky stuff.
13:41He's going to go in, get an extra lineman, and then start to make sure they can show up this run game.
13:46But when you look at the offense, there's no John Runyon out for personal reasons,
13:51so you have Aaron Stinney in the game.
13:53But Theo Johnson is going to be that guy, right?
13:55Very athletic, second year with the Giants, really starting to come around,
13:59has career-high numbers in every category.
14:02We're going to see if he can continue to stack good plays and good games together.
14:06Second down at eight.
14:07It's Tracy again.
14:08And he's knocked out of bounds at the 30-yard line.
14:15Gain of two.
14:16So it will be third down and six as the Giants shuffle in some new personnel,
14:20and we check out the Vikings defensive unit.
14:23Right, and now this is where the Vikings excel, right?
14:26And it really starts with Harrison Smith.
14:28He does a phenomenal job back there with the calls,
14:31and it's really about him getting two or three play calls.
14:34It's called an automatic front coverage.
14:36Brian Flores gives him two or three calls.
14:38He looks at the formation.
14:39He's the one that gets everyone lined up
14:41and making it very confusing for Jackson Dawn in this offense.
14:45Three wide receivers set.
14:46Singletary in the backfield.
14:48Third down and six.
14:52Guard throws, and it is short.
14:54There is a flag.
14:55Second penalty mark for his throw.
14:57Pass was intended for Waddell Robinson with Byron Murphy defending.
15:08There are two fouls, one against each team.
15:14Pass interference, defense number seven.
15:16Holding, offense number 64.
15:18Those penalties will offset when we play the down.
15:2164 is the left guard, Stinney, you mentioned, starting for Runyon today.
15:26Murphy flagged as well.
15:28Offsetting penalties, so...
15:30They will reset.
15:32Third down and six.
15:34You mentioned Darasaw out.
15:36Mattelis, very important player on the Vikings defense.
15:39So is Grenard.
15:40So is Hartkrieg.
15:41Yeah, you're going to see a little shuffling of the defense and the personnel.
15:47They're still going to make it confusing for Jackson Dart,
15:49but some key guys missing from their defense.
15:51Jack, Jack, Jack.
15:52Go right, go right, go right.
15:55Round 20, about to catch up.
15:58Down and six.
15:59Dart under pressure.
16:00Down he goes, and a flag is thrown.
16:02Two flags.
16:03Harrison Smith.
16:06The veteran six-time Pro Bowler.
16:08They can contact up high with Dart.
16:16Personal foul.
16:17Rough in the passing.
16:19Defense number 22.
16:20It's a 15-year opportunity.
16:22It's an automatic first down.
16:24So Harrison Smith comes untouched.
16:26Yes, and his helmet does make contact with Jackson Dart's helmet.
16:30Yep, you see it right there.
16:31Easy call for the officials.
16:34What was interesting is that Kafka had Jackson Dart do about two,
16:38two hard counts, right?
16:40And he wanted to see what defense they were going to come in.
16:43And usually at their first hard count, defenders get a little antsy.
16:46They start to move around.
16:47Even after the second one, they didn't move.
16:49So they knew the blitz was coming.
16:50They just didn't pick it up and could have really hurt Jackson Dart there.
16:54Mike Kafka, whose locker was right next to Harrison Smith back in 2015
16:58during training camp with the Minnesota Vikings.
17:02Now the interim head coach of the Giants.
17:04And Harrison Smith still playing at a high level.
17:07Three, two, three, two, three.
17:09From the 15, the toss.
17:11It's Tracy looking for running room.
17:14But could not find a hole.
17:16Jonathan Allen.
17:17That's the tackle.
17:20Aaron Jones getting loose on the Vikings sideline.
17:24Yeah, and Aaron Jones, he was in the blue tent as well as Jordan Mason.
17:29So this is a good sign for the Vikings having Aaron Jones come back out.
17:34Remember last time it was really C.J. Hamm that was in that third down spot
17:38because Jordan Mason was out and Aaron Jones.
17:40Honey, honey, honey, honey.
17:45Green A, two, green A, two, green A.
17:47Hey, a little alert.
17:48A little alert.
17:49A little alert.
17:53Green A, two, green A, two, green A.
17:56Second down at 12.
17:58Tracy to the Vikings 13-yard line.
18:03As we heard, the by-play between Dart and the Vikings defenders prior to the snap.
18:09This is a chess match.
18:11I love hearing this because Harrison Smith is telling his defense,
18:14hey, don't move.
18:15The game plan is to go with these hard counts.
18:18Try to get us to move, and then he can figure out what defense we're in.
18:21So we stay tight, and then they wait until about seven or eight seconds left on that play clock
18:26getting to the defense that they need to get into,
18:28and then they should confuse Jackson Dart at that point.
18:35Third down at eight.
18:36Giants keep it on the ground with Tracy.
18:40Yeah, I think they're going to go for it on fourth down.
18:42Usually when an offense runs the ball on third down like that,
18:45you're going to go for it on fourth,
18:46and sure enough, Gunnar Olszewski's coming into the game.
18:49You see no sign of the kickers coming out there.
18:51By the way, if any of our viewers ever have four hours of Jonathan Velma
18:58ask him to tell you all about the chess match he had with Peyton Manning
19:03during the Super Bowl.
19:04Fascinating stories.
19:05I remember like it was yesterday, bro.
19:07That was some fun football.
19:10Look at the plate selection.
19:11Seven rushes.
19:12No passes.
19:14Don't want to put Jackson Dart on harm's way.
19:16This is going to be a pass right here.
19:18White clock winding down.
19:19Giants get the snap away.
19:21Dart on fourth down.
19:23Wrapped up and sacked.
19:25Jalen Redman bringing down Jackson Dart.
19:32Sixth sack of the season,
19:33so the Giants go for it on fourth down,
19:37keep the field goal unit on the sidelines,
19:39and cannot convert.
19:46Emmitt Smith is over.
19:48Everything says that this is either going to be him blitzing or man.
19:51Instead, he drops back.
19:53It's cover two.
19:53With the cover two, Jackson Dart has no time to decipher where to go with the football.
19:59Dallas Turner goes and gets the sack with Jalen Redman.
20:01And that is the tenth time the Giants have had a drive in the red zone
20:05and by turning it over on downs, coming away with nothing.
20:09That's the most by any team in this century.
20:13Century.
20:14Century isn't 100 years.
20:16This century.
20:17It's at least 2,000.
20:20There's McCarthy on first down.
20:23Takes off.
20:23And will be marked down at the 23-yard line.
20:28Gate of eight for J.J. McCarthy.
20:30We see Xavier Scott
20:32in the backfield on that play.
20:36Aaron Jones is on the sideline.
20:39Jordan Mason is not.
20:41Aaron Jones is behind T.J. Hamm on the sideline,
20:43but Xavier Scott right now is going to get the load of this run game.
20:49And they had three tight ends in the game.
20:50Justin Jefferson, he did have that one catch in the first series.
20:54All right, Eddie, let's hunt.
20:57This is Scott on second down.
21:02Scott picks up a Vikings first down.
21:05Megan.
21:06Kenny, as you mentioned, Aaron Jones on the sideline.
21:08He was in the medical tent for quite a while, actually, with Jordan Mason as well.
21:12They are both questionable to return with ankle injuries.
21:15Aaron Jones was testing his ankle out on the sideline, doing quite a bit of sprints.
21:19And then Jordan Mason was actually carted out into the locker room from the medical tent.
21:24So we will see if they will return for this running back group, guys.
21:26All right, thanks, Beck.
21:27A lot more pleasant for Megan down on the sidelines this week than it was here last week.
21:33Feels like a spring afternoon.
21:35Yeah, this isn't too bad.
21:36Not too bad.
21:39Addison in motion.
21:41McCarthy on first down incomplete as that bounced away from Jefferson.
21:46And we head to Los Angeles for a game break.
21:49Carissa.
21:50Thanks, Kenny.
21:51Chargers fighting for a playoff spot down seven to the Cowboys, who have been eliminated.
21:54Justin Herbert throws a perfect ball to Clinton Johnston, who only needs one hand to come down with it.
21:59Chargers-Cowboys tied at seven.
22:01Kenny.
22:03All right, thanks, Carissa.
22:04Chargers with ten wins on the season, ten and four.
22:07Cowboys lost to the Vikings last Sunday.
22:10Three, four.
22:13Three, four.
22:14Three, four.
22:15Three, four.
22:16Second and ten.
22:20Fade to Scott.
22:22And McCarthy is down.
22:24At the 25-yard line, Brian Burns makes the play.
22:28Yeah, that was a run-pass option.
22:30He had the option, obviously, to hand the ball off to Xavier Scott.
22:34Chose not to.
22:34Thought that he would have Justin Jefferson out there one-on-one.
22:38Drew Phillips did a really nice job covering up Justin Jefferson.
22:42led to that, what, two-yard loss, and now brings up a third and long for the Vikings.
22:47The 14th sack of the season for Barnes, adding to his career high.
22:52Third down and 12, pass is complete, and Jefferson will pick up a first down.
23:06Excellent second effort as Jefferson, games 13, moves the chains for Minnesota.
23:13Yeah, they've been doing this a lot with Justin Jefferson, like to get him involved with these screens.
23:17And this is just another way to force the ball to him, right?
23:20And you see a third and long, you put the ball in your best player's hand, see if he can make the first, get the first down.
23:28Makes one guy miss, makes a second guy miss.
23:30Drags Dane Bellin for another three or four yards, and gets the first down for the Vikings.
23:39From the 38-yard line, it is Scott, runs it to the arms of Bobby O'Karrake.
23:49Let's play the Fox Super 6, $10,000 in cash prizes available.
24:03Big smile on Gronk's face, huh?
24:06Think he might win the $10,000?
24:08Nah, I don't think so.
24:10I don't think so.
24:11I think he's good.
24:11He's got enough money over there.
24:13Second down and nine.
24:27Oh, McCarthy.
24:28Oh, the deflection.
24:29It's picked off by Poulson Adebo.

26:53The Vikings with a field goal on
26:55their opening possession lead
26:58it by the score of three nothing
27:0010 of their eleven plays in
27:05Vikings territory looking to end
27:08that game losing streak.
27:13Right now they've neutralized
27:15Brian Flores and the schemes and
27:17the disguises with this one game
27:18and as long as the game is
27:20closed they can continue to rely
27:21on that line in the running
27:22playtime.
27:23From the 33 to handoff to
27:25Robinson.
27:27Robinson pulled down by Jay
27:29Ward.
27:30Mike Kafka told us this week he
27:32had every position coach in each
27:34individual position room they had
27:36every coach every player stand up
27:39and talk about what that
27:42individual can improve on and
27:44they applied it to practice
27:45during the week they all said it
27:46out loud.
27:47Kafka said we're looking for
27:49accountability he bounced around all
27:51of the meeting rooms and that's
27:54something that we haven't really
27:55heard much from coaches around the
27:57league but that is what Kafka and his
28:01assistants had his players do this
28:03week as Tracy is brought down at the
28:0525 it was very unique my 10 year career I
28:08never did that right stand in front of
28:10all the players and say what I need
28:12to do and I really like that because
28:14now everybody heard what you want to
28:16improve upon and so you go out to
28:18practice you just can't go out there
28:20and slop around right you've lost eight
28:22in a row but you just told your
28:23teammates who are holding you
28:25accountable hey this is what I need
28:26to work on now it makes a practice
28:28very intentional really like the idea
28:31of by Kafka frankly I hope other
28:32coaches take the take even do that
28:34here's Dart
28:36that's a dart on the stake
28:39so Dart able to pick up the first
28:49down Kafka also telling us he watched
28:51the entire game from last week
28:53against the commanders one-on-one with
28:55quarterback Jackson Dart and that's
28:58where it all spawned from because
29:00Jackson Dart is looking and he's
29:01saying all right this is what I got
29:02to do I got to get better here all
29:04of a sudden you say well what about
29:05the other players what can they do
29:07and then it turns intend to have
29:09turned into a good practice there's
29:11Tracy on the toss it has been all run
29:15for the Giants still no pass attempts
29:17for Dart two minutes into this second
29:20quarter and I'm fine with it I know I
29:22started this game by saying we want
29:23to see if the franchise quarterback is
29:25going to be able to handle this
29:26complicated defense but when you have
29:28the run game going I love that cap
29:30goes like you can't stop the run
29:32right now I'm gonna just keep
29:33running it down your throat there's
29:34no reason to switch up anything
29:36you're doing if you're having
29:37success running the football we've
29:39seen a heavy dose of the tight end
29:41at the fullback position there's
29:43Tracy again spin stays on his feet
29:48and picks up another Giants first
29:50down yeah they're gonna wear out
29:56this Giants defense excuse me this
29:58Vikings defense if the Vikings don't
30:02start to get aggressive and it's
30:03really this front seven right it's
30:05gonna be the defensive tackles
30:06defensive linemen the linebackers
30:09they have to come up and what you're
30:10afraid of really if you're going to
30:12floor is you're gonna have a Jay
30:13Ward coming down starting to get
30:15real aggressive Harrison Smith coming
30:17down and then they hit it over the
30:19top of you with the play action
30:22Giants have run the ball 15 times
30:26that's the first official pass
30:28attempt that it's off the hands of
30:30Theo Johnson I would have rather
30:32than just continue running the
30:33football I understand what he was
30:35trying to do and you see Jackson
30:38Dart trying to get a little side
30:39arm action looking like a little
30:41Matthew Stafford there young Matthew
30:43Dio Johnson couldn't keep his hands
30:46on the football but how they
30:47continue to run the ball they're
30:48getting three four yards a pop
30:50might as well just keep doing it
30:51Green Andrew said second down at
31:0010 this is Singletary Singletary
31:05brought down at the eight gain of
31:07three so the Giants now facing a
31:11third down and seven they could pick
31:12up a first down without reaching the
31:14end zone yeah the problem was last
31:16time they were down here it was
31:17third and long they ran the
31:19football ended up being fourth and
31:21medium and then they didn't
31:23convert looks like a player is
31:25down for the Giants there's Cam
31:27Scatterboos out for the season he
31:29was a real big part of their run
31:31for us every Thomas the left
31:34tackle is down
31:42you mentioned the Giants without left
31:46guard John Runyon today for personal
31:48reasons so Aaron Stinney made his first
31:51start of the season that left guard
31:55started three games last year and now
31:57Thomas exits the rookie out of Purdue
32:00Marcus Bowe replaces him
32:03so that whole left side of the offensive
32:09line for the Giants these are
32:11inexperienced guys Stinney is
32:13experienced but inexperienced in a
32:14sense they haven't played a lot
32:16and they're going to stick to running to
32:18the right side or still continue to
32:19try to pound on that left side but
32:21this is the biggest thing that
32:22communication with those young
32:23players
32:24penalty marker pulled down at seven
32:25dart stays on his feet
32:28and is brought down at the nine
32:31by Eric Wilson looks like they're going
32:42to get an illegal formation on the
32:44Giants
32:46offense number 71 was not on the line
33:02of scrimmage that penalty is declined
33:04fourth down
33:07so Mike Kafka sends out Ben Sauls for
33:10his first attempt in the NFL he's
33:13the first left footed kicker in the
33:16league in seven seasons played
33:20collegiately at Pitt Sebastian
33:22Janikowski was the most recent so
33:25this changes the whole operation
33:28with the holder on the other side
33:31Kafka did say he likes his legs got a
33:33strong leg it is a little windy out
33:36here today
33:37from 27 first attempt in his career
33:41it is good
33:43fourth kicker of the season for the
33:44Giants
33:47they tie the game at three
33:51somewhere on a stretch of road
33:53Dave's going to say on wake up barstool
33:56the whole sports world looking to your
33:58Collins takes
33:59and you know Nick's going to surprise
34:01you on first things first
34:02the three voices that set the conversation on
34:05FS1 and you joined Dave in the barstool gang the
34:09other day
34:10I was there nine o'clock early in the
34:12morning on a Friday right before my
34:14Miami Hurricanes beat Texas A&M it was great
34:17that's a great sounding board for them it was awesome
34:20perfect day for you huh it was a good day it was a good day
34:27payback now Ohio State New Year's Eve Cotton Bowl I was in that game where I was robbed of a national title
34:35yeah but you also want one
34:37still that's not the point
34:39Kenneth Gary Albert that's not the point
34:42oh I know two for two a lot better right
34:44here's Myles Price
34:48cut down by Dean Belton
34:56so JJ McCarthy leads the Vikings offense back onto the field in a 3-3 game making his ninth start of the season
35:07we asked him about his relationship with Jackson Dart they trained together with John Beck former quarterback in the NFL out in Arizona spent some time at the Rookie Showcase
35:17good news for McCarthy's Eric Jones is back on the field
35:28takes the handoff from McCarthy on first down
35:32picks up five yards well after McCarthy missed all of last season
35:38a look at his numbers first six starts this season and the last two both victories
35:45runs over Washington and Dallas
35:50hey water water
35:52Kevin O'Connell telling us we've played good complimentary football over the last two weeks
35:58there's McCarthy fires
36:02Jefferson
36:03he's going to make the catch for a Vikings first down at a gate of 16
36:08going up against his former teammate at LSU Cordell Flott
36:17I'm watching both feet right down left down that's a beautiful catch by Justin Jefferson
36:22on first down another completion this one to Jordan Addison across midfield
36:33and I like eight of seven I like what Kevin O'Connell is doing
36:38I mentioned evaluating these quarterbacks can JJ McCarthy be your franchise guy and right now he's demanding JJ McCarthy throw these out routes right that's where these quarterbacks make their money throwing to the outside
36:40accurately consistently yes of course read the defense scramble when you have to but those are the plays you can make because if you can start to hit those consistently think of Matthew Stafford and how well that offense runs you can do anything offensively from there
37:03will be proud of the snap office number 87 five yard penalty second down
37:10and JJ McCarthy the connection with Justin Jefferson he has to hit him at the right time right now this is going to be a basic route from Justin Jefferson and JJ McCarthy is staring it down he has to trust that he can make the throw low and inside because Justin Jefferson will catch any
37:32anything anything you throw his way and that's going to be the progression for JJ McCarthy he sees those tight windows he has to throw it to a spot trust his receivers are going to get there trust Justin Jefferson will make the play like he's done for the past four years
37:47second down at eight this is Jones and a nice tackle pulled down at the 44 yard line by Chauncey Golston
37:59and you see entering today it's about as bad as it gets right both worse in NFL seven interception passer rating is dismal but it's really not because of Justin Jefferson's lack of play or JJ McCarthy really JJ McCarthy just has to get used to what it is being a pro
38:15ball quarterback right he's not there yet it's his first year playing he was hurt last year give him some time and he's going to understand those tight windows are the windows that are open in the NFL he's got to be able to force the ball in there
38:28Jefferson with three receptions today play clock round all the way down
38:35play clock round all the way down
38:39play of game
38:40offense
38:41five yard penalty
38:42third game
38:43so this will set the Vikings back five yards you mentioned Matthew Stafford a minute ago he was one of the quarterbacks that JJ McCarthy told us he enjoyed watching as a youngster when Stafford was with the Detroit Lions
38:56McCarthy grew up in Illinois in the Chicago area
38:59right and I mentioned those out routes because when I played against Matthew Stafford Aaron Rodgers it is so hard to defend those out routes and then we have to start making up defenses to try to stop that leaving the middle of the defense open
39:11now McCarthy on third down is Jefferson
39:18is just short needed 15 games about 14 and a half
39:26and there's Justin Jefferson they've really been keying him on these third and longs
39:33we call that the indie route both guys coming back inside and let's JJ pick between who he wants to throw to
39:38go to the JJ
39:40the other JJ and he almost gets the first down now the fourth and short
39:44you know JJ McCarthy can run with the football here and Aaron Jones back in the game for the Vikings
39:49and he will pick up a Minnesota first down to the Giants 44 and now a flag from extracurricular activity
40:06that's the Lawrence in the middle of it on the Giants side
40:12that's a big guy that gets back to the Olympics worthwhile offensive lineman for the Vikings is still down
40:29it might be Ryan Kelly their center
40:32and training side actually had him just lay back down now finally just roll over a little bit it is Ryan Kelly
