00:00 The report that was published recently, in relation to the presentation I gave today at the AIL,
00:09 on the health status of children, adolescents and young people who reside in contaminated sites,
00:15 the report identifies some criticisms among young children who reside in sites of interest for the
00:23 Italian contaminated sites. There are 46 sites and the study has analyzed the health profile of mortality,
00:33 hospitalization and the risk of congenital malformations in the populations that reside in these areas.
00:41 The main results are mainly due to the number of children recovered, not so much on the mortality rate
00:50 but on the hospitalization rate. In the first year of life we have seen an increase of about 8%
00:59 of children recovered for all natural causes, which increases by 20% the number of recovered
01:09 for pathologies that are pathologies of birth, therefore in the early stages of life.
01:16 Also in the first year of life we have seen an increase, an excess of congenital malformations
01:25 in 7 of the 21 sites that are covered by a record for congenital malformations.
01:32 These data also find some confirmation in the advanced stages of life, an increase of 3-5%
01:42 of children recovered for all natural causes at the age of 0-19 years, but also among young people
01:49 20-29 years and about 4% of children recovered among young people for respiratory diseases.
01:58 The important aspect to underline is that the Sentieri study describes a health profile and
02:06 especially for some rare pathologies, even if it is a descriptive study, not analytical,
02:14 that puts in relation to specific contaminants, indicates that from a public health point of view
02:22 these excesses and mismatches deserve an analytical deepening.
02:27 So there is a need to deepen the individual causes in excess with the individual contaminants
02:33 in the different contaminated sites, but without a doubt these excesses indicate the need
02:40 to make analytical deepening, because children are more vulnerable to the effect of environmental pollution
02:48 and therefore even if these excesses are based on a number of cases, they are undoubtedly
02:56 to be taken into account from a preventive intervention point of view and above all to encourage
03:03 the realization of the bonuses that, as we know, are very late in these areas.
