A three-meter long pilot whale was rescued close to Bavaro beach in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
The footage shows a group of locals and rescuers helping the animal to get over the coral reef and return to open waters.
According to the National Aquarium of the Dominican Republic, the rescue team found the animal dehydrated. They took its blood samples, hydrated it with serum and fed it with the help of an orogastric tube.
The whale’s tail was marked with a special identifier for rescuers to control the state of the animal upon its release. The mammal was later transferred in a net and delivered to its natural habitat.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the veterinary specialists of the National Aquarium, the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and dolphin caretakers.
