And now for a beached whale report with a possible happy ending on Australia's Gold Coast. Rescuers guide a baby humpback whale stranded on a beach, back into the sea. Here's more.

A baby humpback whale that stranded itself on a Gold Coast beach on Monday was rescued and guided back out to sea.

Rescuers dug a channel in the sand with excavation equipment and waited for the tide to come in.

Helped by people on two jet skis, the baby whale was gently coaxed back into the water.

According to local media the 3000 lb whale, believed to be only two weeks old, had become separated from its mother.

Seaworld will monitor the calf for the rest of the day with hopes that it will be reunited with its mother.
