British Columbia Firefighters Battle Extreme Wildfire Behavior

British Columbia officials said firefighters were battling extreme fire conditions in the Cariboo Fire Centre on August 12, including the Bishop Bluffs Fire.“Extreme fire behaviour such as this is a force of nature and suppression efforts are ineffective. The focus of the BCWS shifts to ensuring responder and public safety and protecting values,” officials said on social media. “Although the Cariboo Fire Centre is receiving rain again, we would like everyone to keep in mind that the potential for this kind of fire behaviour still exists once the beneficial effects of rain disappear.”The Bishop Bluffs fire, which was discovered on July 8, stood at 13,538 hectares, or more than 33,000 acres, on Monday and was 0 percent contained, according to the incident report. The firefighting efforts were combined with the Baezaeko Fire, which stood at 124,306 hectares, or more than 307,166 acres. Evacuation orders were in place.
