Fighting fire with fire: Grumpy old man fights noisy neighbors by blaring religious chanting

Bullies come in all shapes and sizes and ages.
Mr. Tu, a 68-year-old retiree, living in New Taipei City didn’t like his new downstairs neighbors, the family Lin. He particularly didn’t like the Lin family’s middle school aged daughter, because she practiced the piano during the day. Mr. Tu complained not only was the piano too loud, her playing sucked.
Maybe if she’d been a world renown piano concertist he might not have called the police to file noise complaints, sometimes twice in one day.
The police came and checked the loudness of the girl’s piano playing, but they told Mr. Tu that her playing wasn’t loud enough to constitute noise pollution and as she was practicing during the day the Lin family wasn’t violating any noise ordinances.
Not satisfied with letting it go, Mr. Tu decided that if he had to suffer listening to the girl practice piano the family would have to answer to him. So he allegedly lowered a speaker down on a rope into the building space above the family’s bathroom and blasted Buddhist scripture chanting late at night.
Not very Buddhist or neighborly of him, now was it?
The Lin family complained and made several recordings of the chanting that echoed down into their bathroom late at night.
But before anything could be settled in court the Lin family moved, after all, they’d only been there for a year unlike Mr. Tu, who’d been there for over 20 years.
Hm. I wonder if his new neighbors will have a daughter who plays drums?
