Man buys ‘building shaker’ to get back at noisy neighbors

XI’AN, CHINA — A man in central China fed up with noise from his upstairs neighbors bought a “building shaker” to retaliate against them.

The tenant, identified in Chinese media only by his surname Zhao, was fed up with his neighbor’s kid, who was always running and jumping around, Chinese online media site Hua Shang Bao reported.

When nothing changed after he complained, Zhao went online and bought a “building shaker,” a motorized device that pounds against the ceiling or walls.

Zhao turned the machine on around 8 p.m. on April 7 and then left his home for the weekend — leaving the contraption running continuously for two days straight.

The upstairs neighbor called the building’s property management staff but realized there was nothing they could do until Zhao returned home and switched the device off.

Zhao got back Sunday afternoon, having achieved the intended outcome of driving his neighbors insane with his noise maker.

Fortunately, there was a happy ending. Police were able to get Zhao to turn the device off. And Zhao and his neighbors promised to never bother each other again.

If you’re interested, you can buy a building shaker on the Chinese website Taobao. Prices start at $11 dollars.
