00:00Today, Rupert solves the saucepan handle mystery in Rupert and the Naughty Tinker.

00:15There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:23Children everywhere, know to love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:30There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.

00:36And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:43Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

01:00Rupert Bear has been helping his mother look for the handle that has broken off her frying pan and is lost.

01:12Well, I give up.

01:14It's strange enough to have the handle break just like that.

01:18But for it to disappear as well, it's most peculiar.

01:21But you have got another one, haven't you?

01:25Yes, but it's not big enough. That's only a little one.

01:28Oh, well, I'll have to find something else for tea.

01:31We were going to have omelettes.

01:33I'll go and get you a new pan from the high street if you like.

02:21It's Bill Badger on his way to the high street.

03:10Rupert tells Margot all about the broken pan handles in Nutwood.

03:28I think there's some magic mixed up in this.

03:43If there was any magic going on in Nutwood, I'd know all about it.

03:48But I do know one thing.

03:51There's been a stranger staying up at the hermit's cave, and I think he's up to no good.

03:57He goes out a lot at night, and all good people should be in their beds.

04:02Then I think I'll pay a visit to the hermit.

04:17Rupert and Bill go off to see the hermit in his cave.

04:21I've been in his cave before, Bill.

04:23There's a small volcano inside where he does his cooking.

04:25Yes, but Gypsy Granny said there was somebody else there, Rupert, and she thinks he's up to no good.

04:34Isn't that Farmer Termott?

04:36Good morning, Farmer Termott.

04:39Bill.

04:41Just look at this pile of rubbish.

04:43And it's all plastic.

04:45Plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic boxes.

04:48All left lying about in my fields.

04:51Can't use it for fertiliser nor anything.

04:53And it's taken you all the morning to collect it from around the farm.

04:57Useless it is.

04:58Well, I must get on now and milk the cows.

05:04Rupert and Bill, with a friendly wave, press on with their trip to the hermit's cave.

05:09This is it, Bill.

05:11This is where the hermit lives.

05:13Let's go in and see if he remembers me.

05:15Uh, perhaps I'd, uh, let her wait here, Rupert.

05:24When their eyes have got used to the dim light,

05:27Rupert and Bill travel through the cave

05:28until they hear voices and see a red glow ahead.

05:32That's where the little volcano is.

05:35It's the hermit's kitchen.

05:39By the little volcano, a shifty-looking man is busy working, making toy soldiers.

05:48And the hermit stands looking on.

05:50Neither of them have heard the two chums or in the entrance watching them.

05:54You have been busy, my friend.

05:58And all made from scrap metal.

06:01That's what I like to see.

06:03Nothing wasted.

06:04There's too much stuff wasted these days.

06:07Oh, why.

06:10Hello, Rupert Bear, isn't it?

06:13What brings you here?

06:16Rupert doesn't know what to say.

06:18There's nothing wrong with making tin soldiers from scrap.

06:21Gypsy Granny must have made a mistake.

06:23Uh, good morning, sir.

06:26Uh, this is my friend, Bill Badger.

06:27We were just passing and...

06:29And you thought you'd pop in and visit me.

06:33Sorry I can't offer you a cup of something to drink.

06:55He goes on to tell the two chums

06:57that the toy factory couldn't keep up

06:59with the orders for tin soldiers

07:00and were paying the tinker to make some more.

07:04And look, it's all made from a pile of scrap metal.

07:09Rupert and Bill are astonished.

07:12But...

07:13But they're all saucepan handles.

07:17Well, now you've come to mention it,

07:19so they are.

07:20That one looks like my mummy's saucepan handle.

07:25I remember the odd shape.

07:27Yes, and this one.

07:29Hey, these have been stolen.

07:31They're not scrap.

07:33The hermit is very cross and turns to the tinker.

07:37What's the meaning of this?

07:39I would never have let you use my fire

07:41if I'd known that this metal was stolen.

07:43Oh, I'm very sorry.

07:46I had no work and no money to buy food,

07:49so I had to do something.

07:51But that's stealing.

07:53I'll put all the handles back on the pot.

07:58And Rupert feels very sorry for the poor tinker.

09:23and I'll be the first tinker to work in plastic.

09:29is a pile of scrap plastic.

09:35Farmer Tomat will be glad to get rid of it.
