The first guard post South Korea set up along the DMZ after the 1953 armistice... has been officially recognized as part of South Korea's cultural heritage.
The Cultural Heritage Administration said Wednesday that the guard post, comprised of several buildings made of steel-reinforced concrete,... is located on the inter-border town of Goseong near the East Sea... and has been designated as Registered Cultural Heritage 752.
It's around 580 meters away from where the nearest North Korean guard post was before it was demolished.
The Goseong guard post was initially going to be demolished as well after last year's inter-Korean Comprehensive Military Agreement, but it was kept for historical reasons.
It's said to have a panoramic view that includes North Korea's Geumgang-san mountain.
