Explosion Heard, Flames and Smoke Seen, Amid Deadly Chemical Plant Fire

One person was killed and six injured in an explosion and a fire at a chemical plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, on October 17. Six others were missing. The explosion at the BASF factory occurred during works on a gas pipeline, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine.
Local residents complained of respiratory problems following the explosion, according to the local area’s official Twitter account.
