00:00No music from Cardi, new music from Sweetie, and Megan kicks off her tour.
00:05Fade and Yandel's yacht party gets shut down.
00:08We catch up with Sam Hunt.
00:10We take you inside our Country Power Players event,
00:13and McKenna Grace tells us how it went down.
00:16♪♪
00:19Happy hump day at Billboard News.
00:21I wish I was on a boat, but not this one.
00:24♪♪
00:29Fade and Yandel's impromptu yacht concert was cut short
00:33when the cops shut down the party.
00:35Hey, I'm starting the caravan here, check it out.
00:39♪♪
00:41According to Yandel's manager, the plan was to perform their joint album,
00:45Manifesting 2005, in its entirety.
00:48We're going to give a concert in a boat in Miami.
00:53But after just three songs, local water police patrol asked them to shut it down.
00:58Let's see how many tickets there are.
01:00In a boat, I've never caught a ticket.
01:02First ticket, first ticket in a boat.
01:05Fans flocked to see the duo both on land...
01:08...and by sea, which you can see caused quite the scene.
01:13Ay, we're performing in Miami.
01:16Brickin' is what there is, brickin'.
01:20Yandel's manager told Billboard police asked them to please stop the music,
01:24and they said they had over 50 patrols on hand to try to control the traffic caused by the event.
01:30♪♪
01:36Even though the party may not have been completed,
01:38they insist Fade's team got all the necessary permits with the Coast Guard
01:42and everything was in order and in time.
01:45And for once, the girls aren't fighting but still have lots of updates.
01:49Here's three things you need to know in female hip-hop.
01:52Even with hits like Whoppin' Up and dropping her second Megan collab in 2023,
01:59Cardi B hasn't actually released an album since her debut Invasion of Privacy in 2018.
02:05And an update still isn't coming.
02:08In a since-deleted reply to a fan about feeling unappreciated, she stated,
02:12Anyway, no album this year. I don't care. I'm relaxing this year.
02:16Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer.
02:21Damn! And this was after posting earlier in the year,
02:24I'm preparing to drop the next one this year.
02:27Cardi, it goes without saying, this is crazy. We need an album.
02:30Who is going to work is Megan Thee Stallion,
02:33who kicked off her Solo Arena Hot Girl Summer Tour in Minnesota.
02:37Fans were pleased with the outfit changes, choreo, and of course, bars on bars on bars.
02:43And all I gotta say is, Meg, invite me to the L.A. show so we can do this.
02:48Get down there. Oh, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. See, we got this.
02:52And Sweetie is dropping new music, and we love the raw way she's promoting.
02:57Bitch, you dirtier than dirt. Ain't you 30? Go to work.
03:00Sweetie. Icy girl. I got diamonds in my butt.
03:03Sweetie.
03:04Okay, Sweetie, with the freestyle.
03:06Though that line about being 30 kinda burned.
03:09The music is coming soon.
03:1190, May 17th. Tap the f***. And I know that's right.
03:15Mwah.
03:17Sweetie.
03:18And not gonna lie, I have become a huge fan of Sam Hunt.
03:22Check out our chat we had recently.
03:24Being in the business and then, you know, with the pandemic,
03:27and I haven't toured as much or been to as many award shows in the last few years,
03:30so there are a lot of new artists that I know from the Internet.
03:34I'm familiar with a lot of their music, and I'm a fan of a lot of them.
03:37But I don't have as close a relationship with all those folks.
03:40Who's the new face you're excited to see? Like, who's Sam Hunt excited to see?
03:43It's like Megan Moroney. I met her a couple nights ago at the Ryman.
03:47We both played a show with Bobby Bones.
03:49I've been, since she put out some of her original videos of her, like, in a stairwell
03:54with a lot of reverb, playing some of her songs on acoustic guitar.
03:57I just thought she had a great voice, and her songwriting was great.
03:59So I've been looking forward to meeting her and met her briefly at the Ryman,
04:05but I'm a fan of her music.
04:06Another question about your peers. I gotta ask you this.
04:08So Keith Urban was talking to Bunny backstage, and she asked him,
04:11if you could get in a fight with a kangaroo and invite somebody with you, who would it be?
04:15And he goes, well, Sam's been locked up, so I'm gonna say him.
04:17Now, how close are you and Keith, and would you pair up good in a fight with a kangaroo?
04:23I don't know about that. Maybe if Keith and I both two-on-one the kangaroo,
04:27we might be able to take him.
04:29There's that video that went around a few years ago of that guy boxing with that kangaroo.
04:33They're pretty intimidating.
04:34But yeah, I didn't learn any skills while I was locked up,
04:37but I did growing up in the South. You know how to handle yourself.
04:41Yeah, man, I know. Southern boy myself.
04:43For the full conversation, head over to Billboard's YouTube.
04:46And we're going to keep things country by taking you to our amazing event last night in Dallas.
04:52Wildflowers and wild horses.
04:56Laney Wilson.
04:58Women deserve a spot in country music, and we got a side of the story, too, and it's a good one.
05:04Nate Smith.
05:05This is a dream come true, guys. I'm so honored to be your Rookie of the Year.
05:09And more were celebrated at Billboard's Country Power Players.
05:19Shakers and makers from country music gathered at Gillies Dallas in Texas for a night to remember.
05:25The event honored both musicians and execs, including Rookie of the Year Nate Smith,
05:29Groundbreaker recipient The Warren Treaty, and Executive of the Year Seth England.
05:34I want to thank Mercury and Republic for being such a great disco partner,
05:37and Billboard Magazine for constantly supporting country music and its artists.
05:42Lone River founder Katie Bill Brown was also there to share a few words ahead of the presentation
05:47for Laney Wilson, this year's record breaker, which was presented by Lone River Ranch Water.
05:53Tonight we get to honor a woman who knows a little something about celebrating where she comes from.
06:00She has inspired millions of people on her whirlwind world tour.
06:05Kelsey Ballerini brought the feels when she introduced Wilson at the podium.
06:09Laney is a country girl, a girl's girl, a good friend, a good woman.
06:19To me, being a record breaker is the ultimate honor. It signifies the blood, sweat, and tears I have put into my art.
06:28The night wasn't just filled with acceptance speeches, but attendees also got their music fixed
06:32when Wilson performed an intimate set as they sipped on Lone River's award-winning Ranch Water and Ranch Rita drinks.

06:57She acts, she sings, she does it all, and McKenna Grace is telling us how it went down.
07:09I always have little reference playlists or vibe playlists for the day whenever I get in the studio.
07:14It's kind of the most pop I've ever leaned, and it's not something I'd usually do, but it was really fun to explore and play with.
07:22I think it was more just so a feeling. I was like, oh, there's a gentleman, and I just, I love it, oh.
07:28You know, it was just like, being a girl, a boy treated me really nice, and so I wanted to write a bunch of songs about it naturally, of course.
07:37It was so fun and silly and nice to be able to create and make something positive and upbeat.
07:46I mean, it was just a fun writing process. I just got in there and gushed for a couple hours and then wrote a nice song about a gentleman.
07:58We had our own little gentleman in the studio. There was this dog. His name was Woodstock. It's our producer's dog. He was adorable.
08:06In my heart, my gentleman is that dog.
08:09I always do this. It does not matter how long it's been since I wrote the song or if the vocals sound great.
08:14I will always go back in the studio and redo my vocals before the song comes out. I don't know why.
08:20Maybe I get, like, demo-itis or something, and I'm like, I hate these vocals. Like, they sound wrong. I need to do it again.
08:25Maybe my voice has changed in a week, and so, like, whenever we decided that we were going to put the song out,
08:29I went back in for another couple hours and recorded some vocals.
08:37For the full video, head to Billboard's YouTube page.
08:40Thanks for watching. Tomorrow we're talking about EDC in Vegas and Billie Eilish. See you then.
