Lockheed Martin-built Trident II D5 missile achieves 143 successful test flights

The Oct. 23 U.S. Navy launch of a U.K. Royal Navy Trident II D5 Fleet Ballistic Missile built by Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin Corp. marked the 143rd successful test flight of the missile since design completion in 1989 — a reliability record that is unmatched by any other large ballistic missile or space launch vehicle, PR Newswire reported.
The unarmed missile was launched from the submerged Royal Navy submarine HMS Vigilant in the Atlantic Ocean.
