Man Initially Denied Hospital Admittance For Improper Attire - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
A staff member working at a hospital in Calgary allegedly denied admittance to a 22-year-old man who was there for a wrist injury because he was wearing an inverted cross necklace. An employee pointed out that the cross was upside down and then told him to remove the jewelry.
He offered to place it under his shirt so it wouldn’t be visible. However, he couldn’t take it off due to his hurt wrist and the medical worker told him to find someone else to admit him.
Although eventually assisted by another clerk, he plans to file a complaint with the hospital and Alberta Health Services has claimed they are taking the discrimination matter seriously.
Recently another hospital was under scrutiny after allegations of discrimination surfaced.
Christchurch Hospital allegedly denied Claire Sword free meals because she was not able to breastfeed her infant son. Her son was born with a heart defect, requiring extended periods of hospital care, but the Health Board ruled that Sword was not entitled to free meals because she was bottle feeding.
