U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama opened the lawns of the White House to thousands of children and their parents for a day of outdoor activities at the annual Easter Egg Roll on Monday (April 9).

More than 30,000 people attended the event which featured live musical performances, storytelling, games, yoga and cooking demonstrations, in addition to the traditional rolling of eggs with long-handled wooden spoons.

Obama kickstarted the egg rolling race and cheered on as the children attempted to roll their eggs across the finish line.

The President also shot a few baskets with the Harlem Globetrotters and performed a few pushups each time a player sank a shot.

The theme of this year's event is "Let's Go, Let's Play, Let's Move" in support of the First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative, a national campaign to combat childhood obesity.

The White House gave out free tickets to the event through a lottery system.
