And in Dubai the 12th edition of the Airshow expo comes to a close. Aircraft worth billions of dollars were sold, and Boeing made the biggest sale in its history. Our correspondent in Dubai has more on the story.
The 12th edition of the Dubai Airshow comes to an end on Thursday.
The event kicked off on November 13th. It was an important day for the aerospace industry, with the selling of $26 billion worth of aircrafts
Featured in the exhibit were the Boeing C-17 of the UAE armed forces, a Black Hawk helicopter of the UAE Presidential Guard, the Boeing 737-800 of flydubai and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Boeing and Emirates Airline announced an order for 50 Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft, plus options for an additional 20.
All of this cost about $26 billion, making it the single largest commercial aircraft order in Boeing’s 95-year history.
The second day of the exhibit was concluded with an order for 50 Airbus A320neo aircraft, worth $4.6 billion, with an option for 30 more by the end of the year.
Kuwait-based international aviation lease and finance company ALAFCO, finalized the purchase of the aircraft.
This was an increase of the initial agreement for 30 A320neos, made earlier in the year.
The exhibit was a success not only for the big airline companies but also for new technologies and innovations. One of these showcased at the exhibit was a motion touch screen called “gesture control technology” that will be in use by 2013.

“This is much more reliant with the premium seat environment, where you are a long way from the screen. And it’s technology that allows the passenger to control the user interface purely using motion. We’ve installed two different types of cameras into the screen...
