00:00:00He's hit at 26-2, and we do have a situation of a mismatch in numbers, 13v12 to start the
00:00:07second half.
00:00:08I was curious to see Spencer Lenu actually came back with a queue of Samoan players.
00:00:14He probably does have to stay in the dressing room, I'm not sure who's monitoring all of that.
00:00:19I think it is fair to say in overview, close calls have gone against Samoa, but they still have to
00:00:25overcome that trip.
00:00:26Yeah, Vossi, definitely rubber the green against Samoa, but it's how you handle those periods.
00:00:31They might go on for five or ten minutes, you have to wear them, and then you can come back
00:00:35and attack Australia.
00:00:37They just haven't handled it well with ill-discipline.
00:00:39Second half is underway. Tabu Ifido takes ownership of the catch, close to Jerome Luai.
00:00:45So, first point they have to get through this period, 13v12, and hopefully there's no more damage on the scoreboard.
00:00:55The fans were upset in the opening minutes of the match when Jermaine McEwen went off for an HIA.
00:01:00They had to do a little shuffle.
00:01:01He's back and okay, and there he is locking horns with Harry Grant, Munster, and Carrigan.
00:01:08Uelu off for a run and falls in front of Munster.
00:01:11Not able to get a set restart out of the referee there.
00:01:16Volkman across.
00:01:17Yes, Luai.
00:01:20Stand up a little.
00:01:21Martin was there with Deaton.
00:01:23Last tackle, Samoa.
00:01:24Kick will come from Volkman.
00:01:26Head down.
00:01:27Drives it long, but Vostok will cut it off.
00:01:31Looking back at the World Cup final from four years ago, there were only four penalties in total of the
00:01:37game back then.
00:01:39And the 30 points to 10 win for Australia.
00:01:42Now Tom Dravojevic.
00:01:46McEwen.
00:01:48Lele Uwe there to make the tackle.
00:01:51Here goes Carrigan.
00:01:53So Australia so far have used Carrigan and Murray.
00:01:56That's another advantage.
00:01:57They have, what, two fresh men to call on out of the four they have on the bench.
00:02:02Strange, Cotter, Mitchell, and Walker all available to Kevin Walters tonight.
00:02:10Tom Gardner has used three of the Samoan bench back in the middle.
00:02:14Best on the back of his first test try.
00:02:18Last tackle here, Australia.
00:02:20Grant's did it on to Carrigan.
00:02:24Then the cutout pull.
00:02:26Tom Jabojevic.
00:02:27Keguru's thrown around.
00:02:29Staggs kept it alive.
00:02:30What an innocence.
00:02:32He floated it back infield.
00:02:35And Tungo couldn't believe his luck.
00:02:39Oh, it's on here in the back play.
00:02:40Harry Grant.
00:02:41Jerome Luai on the ground.
00:02:44He didn't like something there, Harry Grant.
00:02:46Yeah, he resented.
00:02:48Was his hand trotted on?
00:02:50Was what I sort of, I don't know, accidental or deliberate, I don't know.
00:02:54But there seemed like something that wasn't quite right for Harry to react the way he did.
00:03:03Yeah, Harry Grant.
00:03:05He's the one in that tackle there.
00:03:08See Jerome Luai come into screen.
00:03:13Just there at the end.
00:03:14Not much in it.
00:03:15He play on Jerome Luai.
00:03:17Tabuai Fido.
00:03:19A nice kick.
00:03:20The hammer.
00:03:21Getting a little close to the sideline.
00:03:24Who near lost?
00:03:26Oh, no.
00:03:2840 metres out.
00:03:30Three hard chases.
00:03:31Crichton leading the way.
00:03:32Oh, Walsh has lost it.
00:03:34Walsh has lost it.
00:03:35And Crichton scores.
00:03:36Just like that.
00:03:38That brings the Samoan crowd alive.
00:03:46Oh, they are alive, Bossy.
00:03:49They are back 12 men on the field.
00:03:51And it's Stephen Crichton, their leader.
00:03:53He picks it up here.
00:03:55Rhys Walsh.
00:03:55It just looked like a routine catch.
00:03:57And you just see there what it means to Jerome Luai.
00:04:00Stephen Crichton.
00:04:00They are pumped up this Samoan side.
00:04:03Rhys Walsh is usually so safe under these high balls.
00:04:06You'll see on the Harvey Norman replay.
00:04:08Just a standard last play.
00:04:09Valkman puts it up.
00:04:10They're all onside.
00:04:12The Samoan players.
00:04:13He gets off the ground here.
00:04:14I don't know if he needed to there.
00:04:15Rhys just misjudges that four.
00:04:18Well, Tommy Chiboyevich can't pick it up either.
00:04:20And Stephen Crichton.
00:04:21He got denied one in the first half.
00:04:23They can't take this one off him.
00:04:31100%.
00:04:32Jump not necessary.
00:04:36And lost.
00:04:38Crichton won't get an extra one than that.
00:04:43Definitely after half time there.
00:04:4512 down to 12 men.
00:04:46Last tackle.
00:04:48Profiting off a drop catch from Walsh.
00:04:51This is the opening that they needed Samoa.
00:04:5326-6.
00:04:54Going to 26-8.
00:04:55You'd think.
00:04:57That's the start they needed.
00:04:59One by one.
00:05:00That's how you eek it back.
00:05:01But they actually did need to score first.
00:05:03And they will need to score second as well.
00:05:06And the 12 men though.
00:05:08It's like a bonus there.
00:05:10Try from the try scorer.
00:05:12That is Rhys Walsh.
00:05:15If history tells us anything, beware his next play because it's likely to be golden, Rhys Walsh.
00:05:20He dusts himself off and goes again.
00:05:23But for the moment, the flags are up for Samoa.
00:05:27What a great shot that is.
00:05:28Crichton kicking towards the army of Samoan fans.
00:05:3526-8 it is.
00:05:40Lyon Stadium here in Sydney.
00:05:43World Cup semi-final number two.
00:05:47Going to go with 26-8.
00:05:51Locked yourself in for this next four or five minutes.
00:05:55Samoa have to get through.
00:05:57Which way have been Lemuelu.
00:05:59That carry.
00:06:01Spencer will come back ready to go.
00:06:03His first run will be interesting.
00:06:06You feel he owes his team, I guess.
00:06:08Manu Leua down.
00:06:10You can see the disappointment, Vossi, on Australia when they let that try in.
00:06:14As Kevi Wilder said at half-time, their defence has been very good.
00:06:18Six-line breaks to zero against Australia.
00:06:22And then they force the error here.
00:06:24Another opportunity for Australia.
00:06:27You missed it in the first half.
00:06:28Their challenge went very early, Samoa.
00:06:30So they can't press the referee on any close calls.
00:06:34Yeah, far too many errors coming out of their own end.
00:06:37Adam Mariota here just forces it out there.
00:06:39Benaiah Yellu just got his hand to that ball.
00:06:44Here we go again.
00:06:45Tommy Dean.
00:06:45This is the exact scrum again.
00:06:46He scored off.
00:06:48Is this going to be the third?
00:06:49Is this going to be Carrigan on a lead?
00:06:52But he's got all options now.
00:06:53They've gone back to the well.
00:06:55Deirdre will attack that line square and fast.
00:06:59Walsh is staring up at what's in front of him.
00:07:01Deirdre here.
00:07:02Now Walsh.
00:07:03He holds it.
00:07:04Brings Staggs into the play.
00:07:06Taking on time.
00:07:07Go.
00:07:07Great defence.
00:07:08Luai ripping him low and hard.
00:07:11Driving him towards the sideline.
00:07:12Draboyevich to Martin.
00:07:16So Lennyu one minute 50 away from coming back on the field.
00:07:20Find a way Samoa.
00:07:22Hang on here.
00:07:23Deirdre back to Carrigan.
00:07:24A little low down.
00:07:28Lennyu there.
00:07:29The Deirdre left.
00:07:31It looks like numbers.
00:07:32Munster.
00:07:33He's straightened up.
00:07:34He had Walsh ready.
00:07:36Walsh wants to go again left.
00:07:38He's counted the numbers.
00:07:40Yeah.
00:07:40Grant saw it.
00:07:41It's four and three.
00:07:42There's your Walsh.
00:07:43There's your wrist.
00:07:45Walsh.
00:07:45Drop a bomb.
00:07:47Dust himself off and go again.
00:07:51He's got a memory of like a goldfish.
00:07:53This man.
00:07:54The Kangaroo's number one.
00:07:55He made the error for Samoa's try.
00:07:59You see on the previous play, Australia, they loaded up to this left-hand side.
00:08:02All three of the Spine Munster.
00:08:04He decided to take it in.
00:08:05And there's the hammer.
00:08:06You just see the hammer at the top of the screen.
00:08:08He fails to get his numbers right on that short side.
00:08:10Harry Grant spots it.
00:08:12Goes straight at him.
00:08:13Bang off the right foot.
00:08:14And then re-swald Sean.
00:08:16You had a few of these when you were playing.
00:08:18He just forgets things real quick.
00:08:20Yes.
00:08:21Well said, Kez.
00:08:22That's what the best players do, mate.
00:08:25You can't dwell on the moment for too long.
00:08:27Any young player out there, everyone makes mistakes.
00:08:29Everyone's human.
00:08:30But if you're Reece Walsh, you get back up.
00:08:32And you just go straight after the game again.
00:08:34You saw him talking to his outside men to reload.
00:08:37It's all he knows how to do is attack the game.
00:08:39He does that here and is able to score a beautiful try.
00:08:47Grace Walsh.
00:08:48Incredible.
00:08:49Yeah, great to see Harry Grant picking the ball up, running out of dummy half again.
00:08:55There's been a lot of ruts being created for Harry Grant.
00:08:57I've seen him run more tonight than I have in the first three games.
00:09:01Some great play there.
00:09:03And again, they keep going back to their left edge.
00:09:06You can see Walsh and Munster have been hanging out there, looking for opportunity.
00:09:11Hammer needed to go in the line because of numbers, but also because of the 12 men.
00:09:15But Harry Grant creates that speed, space, again on that left edge.
00:09:21Great try.
00:09:23So to nullify all of the six that Samoa collected after halftime.
00:09:29Munster with a kick.
00:09:33Don't be Munster.
00:09:35How good is he going?
00:09:39Off we go again at 32 to 8.
00:09:42Spencer Lenhew is back for Samoa.
00:09:44Kerrigan with a run and he was waiting.
00:09:48Lenhew is fired up.
00:09:49He has a little chat with Rhys Walsh straight away.
00:09:52He's a magnet for it.
00:09:54Spencer.
00:09:56Mind you, he's aggression and you know it well, Trent.
00:09:59He was a game-turner in the grand final this year.
00:10:02Well, he needs to stay on type here.
00:10:04He needs to keep going after him.
00:10:05He needs to stay just under the line, but he does need to change momentum for Samoa.
00:10:10Back for Kerrigan.
00:10:13And Australia will look to get through this set.
00:10:15Kick deep.
00:10:16Take advantage of the 24-point lead now.
00:10:20Crowd got silenced quickly after the try from Kerrigan.
00:10:24Martin hit and spin there.
00:10:26It was worked hard all night.
00:10:27Liam Martin.
00:10:29Preston's had the bigger players out of the left side.
00:10:32Harry are rather Munster with a bomb.
00:10:37Strike players.
00:10:38There hasn't been sort of the big line breaks that you'd hoped for.
00:10:43Well, we have a line break count.
00:10:45In fact, that Samoa haven't actually had any clean runs through the Australian defence tonight.
00:10:51With his top work.
00:10:55I think if you lined up the first game, Australia, New Zealand, and now Australia...
00:10:59Oh, no.
00:11:00Spencer's put it down.
00:11:02And Australia let him know about it.
00:11:08Yeah, it's been an unhappy night to Spencer Lenu.
00:11:11That'll be their seventh error.
00:11:13This Samoa's on.
00:11:13A lot of them in their own end there.
00:11:15You see how disappointed he is.
00:11:17They have to defend this one.
00:11:19If there are any chances, it's just a simple drop ball.
00:11:21Straight from Damiya.
00:11:22Just got big on him there, that ball.
00:11:26Australia, they are up and about here.
00:11:27Nice and aggressive in defence.
00:11:31OK, the scrum's a little deeper out.
00:11:34Same formation.
00:11:35Carrigan out.
00:11:36Martin out of the scrum.
00:11:38Walsh second off the scrum.
00:11:40Away from Deirdre.
00:11:41Here they go.
00:11:42Deirdre run.
00:11:44No double, just straight.
00:11:4630 away from the Samoan line.
00:11:49Kangaroo's confidence.
00:11:50The fans, they're feeling it now.
00:11:52Carrigan.
00:11:53They want a party here tonight.
00:11:55The Australian fans on a Sunday night.
00:11:59Who sights one eye already on the final next Sunday in Brisbane.
00:12:04Unstarted.
00:12:04Little shuffle there in front of the defensive line.
00:12:07An eye release.
00:12:10That's you too, Cam.
00:12:11Grand is here.
00:12:12There's Yo.
00:12:14Now Deirdre.
00:12:15Walsh again.
00:12:16No.
00:12:16Knocked out.
00:12:18By far, Longo.
00:12:19He would have been into the clutches of Trubojevic to score in the corner.
00:12:23Oh, I nearly had it there, Reece Walsh.
00:12:24He goes straight to his man, Tommy Trubojevic.
00:12:26If he gets that pass to a far, Longo's hand.
00:12:29Watch here.
00:12:29Just a bullet there.
00:12:30Far Longo.
00:12:31He goes the all or nothing.
00:12:32He misses that ball.
00:12:33Tommy Trubojevic is over.
00:12:35He knew it there, Reece Walsh.
00:12:36They've taken this one to the middle of the park.
00:12:39This will be to try and isolate Walsh here.
00:12:41They want to get him one-on-one with someone.
00:12:43Looks like he's going to stay on this right-hand side.
00:12:46So he's dashing about both ways.
00:12:48I think he's trying to get him looking at Volkman there.
00:12:51They're moving around for Longo.
00:12:53It just is like chess game is alive here.
00:12:56The pieces are electrified.
00:12:58And Monster goes himself.
00:13:04Set restart.
00:13:05A little too long there from Volkman.
00:13:07Grant and Murray at 32-8.
00:13:13Australia well and truly at the boxing.
00:13:16Kerrigan here.
00:13:19A lot of organising being done.
00:13:21Deirdre and Wright.
00:13:22Monster left.
00:13:23Walsh lurking on the right.
00:13:25Grant fires it to Monster.
00:13:27Plays at his own speed.
00:13:28Got it to Best's.
00:13:31Preston Reneline through there.
00:13:32Didn't get the ball.
00:13:34Mostock.
00:13:36Back for Monster.
00:13:37That's a good excuse.
00:13:38Preston a little play.
00:13:40Sets it up.
00:13:4120 in from touch.
00:13:43Two left in the set.
00:13:44Now from Grant.
00:13:45Monster.
00:13:46Again.
00:13:47Kerrigan just cut down.
00:13:50He's just playing a little bit of backyard footy there.
00:13:53Kerrigan Monster.
00:13:54This happens to be a World Cup semi-final in front of 40 plus thousand.
00:13:58Deirdre and Don.
00:13:59Deirdre and Russell.
00:14:01Deirdre and Struggle.
00:14:03Gets in goal.
00:14:05Hold up.
00:14:06Now 10.
00:14:072-0.
00:14:08Go quick.
00:14:09Well, you're in a good spot when your halves are running.
00:14:12Twice in that set from Deirdre and once from Monster.
00:14:15Great footy from Australia.
00:14:16They're continuing to apply pressure to Samoa.
00:14:19Great shout.
00:14:20Trent.
00:14:20Between the two, Haas Munster and Deirdre and 20 runs tonight.
00:14:24We look over the other side.
00:14:26Six runs between Volkman and Luai.
00:14:28Just one step to highlight there.
00:14:32And now Uellu try and work their way out of trouble with Brian Tottenham.
00:14:39Rain is back and it's heavy.
00:14:41Doesn't make it any easier for Samoa.
00:14:44Volkman.
00:14:46Produced that miraculous try last week against Tonga.
00:14:50They'd love one now.
00:14:52Mariotta.
00:14:53Offload.
00:14:54Switch of play.
00:14:55Volkman.
00:14:56The hammer.
00:14:57The level.
00:14:59Australia by Pennequin.
00:15:01Dunga Hall.
00:15:02They're away.
00:15:03Far longer.
00:15:04The mover.
00:15:05Drop down from behind there.
00:15:09Mark was trailing back.
00:15:11It's pretty heavy.
00:15:12Yeah, I'm not surprised he's stung by it.
00:15:16Right on halfway.
00:15:18Debbie Ifito.
00:15:19Crichton.
00:15:20Closer to the action.
00:15:22Older Spencer Lenu.
00:15:24Last play it is.
00:15:26Need something out of the ordinary, I reckon.
00:15:29And Joy with a bomb after half time.
00:15:31Luai.
00:15:32Walsh underneath it.
00:15:33They jump early.
00:15:34Walsh this time.
00:15:36Has the ball.
00:15:37Jaleesa on the sideline.
00:15:39Yeah, the rain is really coming down here.
00:15:41But so far, the crowd of 41,529 are persisting.
00:15:45That's a few hundred more than that opener between Australia and New Zealand.
00:15:48The final is sold out.
00:15:50But there is a small batch of tickets that will be released after the game tonight.
00:15:53So you'll have to be very quick to get them.
00:15:55Okay.
00:15:56Yes.
00:15:56Once they worked out who was playing, there was an allotment of tickets held back.
00:15:59So monitor that if you wish to be at Suncorp next Saturday.
00:16:04Rather, next Sunday night.
00:16:06Where Australia will play New Zealand in the women's.
00:16:10At the moment, it's looking like Australia, New Zealand, the men's.
00:16:15Back here for Dele.
00:16:17Kicks long from halfway.
00:16:20Far longer.
00:16:22Look at the kick chase of Australia.
00:16:24Oh, there.
00:16:25Still pipes away.
00:16:27Yeah, I'd love to get Sean Johnson's thoughts on this.
00:16:30But I think Bad Gardner, he's got to go outside the box here.
00:16:32I'd be moving Sua Falongo to the fullback position.
00:16:35Get the hammer out here on the left.
00:16:36Get Clayton Falolo on the field.
00:16:38Anywhere.
00:16:39Get him in the middle of the park.
00:16:40Get all your attacking weapons on.
00:16:42Can't hurry square.
00:16:43Who cares?
00:16:44Is there an echo?
00:16:45I'm down sideline with Ryan Pappenhausen.
00:16:47He has said similar.
00:16:48So, hey, I wouldn't be surprised if we see something.
00:16:50They've got to spice it up.
00:16:51They've got to chase this game.
00:16:52I'm like, they've got to throw everything at it.
00:16:54So, let's see.
00:16:57Four-way, four-way.
00:16:59Offloaded.
00:17:00Tabuifido.
00:17:00They've called a forward pass.
00:17:01Four in the five.
00:17:03Jerome Lawai filthy on it.
00:17:04Ruben Cotter getting ready to come on for Australia.
00:17:07So, that will be only the third reserve they've had to use tonight.
00:17:11Just not happening for Samoa.
00:17:14Bossy, we saw in the Fiji game for Australia,
00:17:17Trubojevic had a lot of issues out on this right edge.
00:17:19His placement has been much, much better than I am.
00:17:23They would have expected through Luai's edge on the left
00:17:26to create some space as they shift left here.
00:17:30But Trubojevic has improved.
00:17:31He's cut off a lot of the passes.
00:17:33Fai Longo hasn't had as many opportunities.
00:17:35A really good improvement for the game to game from Trubojevic.
00:17:40So, Cotter will come on in a moment.
00:17:42I wonder if Kevi's got a plan to give Latrell Mitchell a bit of game time.
00:17:47Just in case.
00:17:48If you think you're going to be using him for the final,
00:17:50is that only the first match of the tournament?
00:17:53Latrell hasn't sat down since halftime.
00:17:56Yeah, really awkward this one for Jacob Preston.
00:17:58Just gets hit.
00:18:00It's a big contact clutching there.
00:18:02Left ankle.
00:18:04You want to play it?
00:18:06That's why we bring it across.
00:18:08Just watch this.
00:18:09Stephen Crichton goes under.
00:18:10It's perfectly legal there.
00:18:11Yeah, it just got hit at the same time.
00:18:14Jacob, wait!
00:18:16Flying Crichton and then 120 kilos of Junior Barlow over the top.
00:18:20The old grass cut.
00:18:22So, that tackle.
00:18:23So, Australia with it.
00:18:25Murray to play it.
00:18:2639 out from the line.
00:18:29Now for Grants.
00:18:32And now for Surumalawi back on.
00:18:35So, Australia in the perfect position to capitalise here.
00:18:40Maybe attacking kick at the end of the set.
00:18:42Yo with it.
00:18:43They haven't had run really for Bostock tonight.
00:18:46To try a big leap on Brian Tothall.
00:18:49They may go there now.
00:18:50They won.
00:18:51Right, there it is.
00:18:52Set up for the flying Jack Bostock.
00:18:54Lost it forward.
00:18:56And he's found another penalty for Australia.
00:18:59I didn't think he even had the ball.
00:19:02It's in the air.
00:19:03And I didn't think he even had possession yet.
00:19:05Nothing going right for Samoa.
00:19:09Not there.
00:19:11Let's go.
00:19:11And they're saying a grab in air.
00:19:14Not a rule many of us like.
00:19:17It's a really tough one there for Brian Tothall.
00:19:19Because Jack Bostock, he takes the space.
00:19:22There's not too much Tothall can do there.
00:19:24He's going up for the ball.
00:19:25Bostock ends up in that exact space.
00:19:29Yes, what you're asking him to do is go up without your arms at all.
00:19:31Just jump in that position.
00:19:34For Surumalawi with a run.
00:19:36Don't be surprised if they go back to Jack.
00:19:41Right now.
00:19:42Connor.
00:19:44Just metres away from the line.
00:19:48Kangaroos.
00:19:49All the playmakers are left in.
00:19:51Munster and gives it to Preston.
00:19:53He can go out the back to Walsh.
00:19:55Now it goes again.
00:19:56Munster will run straight at them.
00:19:58Dumps it on the ground.
00:20:00Intercept.
00:20:00Luai.
00:20:01Away now.
00:20:02Thogman.
00:20:03Wide ball.
00:20:04Far Longo with it.
00:20:05Samoa strike back.
00:20:07Far Longo doing what he does best.
00:20:10Mesmerising the defence.
00:20:14Absolutely scintillating counter-attack.
00:20:16Well, there's the footwork that you asked for, Kez.
00:20:19Moving from the left wing.
00:20:20He does need to go into the middle of the field.
00:20:22Oh, no, no.
00:20:27Got the penalty.
00:20:28Just take a call.
00:20:29Whistle blown of this one.
00:20:31Watch the break again.
00:20:32This is exciting rugby league.
00:20:36Yeah, what a bust here.
00:20:37They knew they had just had to get the ball out to score far longer.
00:20:40He's got to get his hands on the ball.
00:20:41They need him in the middle of the park.
00:20:43Just get him the ball because he creates opportunities.
00:20:49Oh, no, let's go.
00:20:51This is the penalty on it.
00:20:54Aaron Grant, the drag down.
00:20:57So Samoa, 21 metres from the line.
00:20:59There is time.
00:21:02A try here would be awfully handy, though.
00:21:05Marlowe, the player.
00:21:07They're running at the end where the majority of the fans dominate the bay.
00:21:12There is the ball.
00:21:13Luai at the quite brilliant work on Debride Tottenham.
00:21:17He's only five from the line.
00:21:21One chance here.
00:21:23Nurelu, Valtman, Marlowe.
00:21:26They're all flat-footed.
00:21:28Luai now.
00:21:29Tungo knocked out by Jabojevic.
00:21:32Samoa need to go again.
00:21:34Yeah, Trent Robertson, you said he just put himself in better positions tonight on that right wing.
00:21:38Tommy Jabojevic just gets himself in that passing lane.
00:21:42Isaac Tungo couldn't get the ball across.
00:21:43But we saw the difference.
00:21:45The hammer out the back on the right-hand side to what Reece Walsh can do.
00:21:48Reece Walsh at full speed out the back when he gets it.
00:21:51The hammer just put the brakes on for a second.
00:21:53That allowed the Australian defenders to get across and save the try.
00:22:00Great opportunity for Samoa here.
00:22:02They haven't had many of these.
00:22:03Finally earned some field position.
00:22:05Handed over to Valtman and Luai.
00:22:09Nurelu, oh, right out in front of Valtman.
00:22:12Then Luai.
00:22:14Could have been catastrophic, that, for Samoa.
00:22:16Luai, a bit of dancing.
00:22:18Back for Barlow.
00:22:19But not past a couple.
00:22:22Hasn't had any luck with the offload tonight, Junior Barlow.
00:22:26So play one, 15 away from the line.
00:22:29Still in the contest.
00:22:30Valtman back.
00:22:31McEwen with a step and a skip in front of them.
00:22:34Runs into the other side of the ground.
00:22:37And Martin drives him sideways even further.
00:22:42Tango, Luai.
00:22:44What a flat-footed play here.
00:22:46Barlow on with Spencer Lenu.
00:22:49He'd love a bit of redemption, Spencer.
00:22:53Put up, Uelu, Valtman.
00:22:57Then in and away.
00:22:59And there's a chance.
00:23:00Tabua, Frido.
00:23:01Tango, Tango for the line.
00:23:03Samoa is over.
00:23:04Feet very close to the sideline.
00:23:09Samoa stay in the match.
00:23:12Oh, this is a beautiful back-line movement from Samoa.
00:23:16Trent Robertson, you said it.
00:23:17Great opportunity for them.
00:23:19Just gives them a sniff of hope.
00:23:20There's their fans.
00:23:21They're up and about.
00:23:22They still think they're in it.
00:23:23You'll see on the Harvey Norman replay.
00:23:25This will be a great shot.
00:23:26Right up top.
00:23:27Roddy Bokman, he goes in.
00:23:28Jerome Luai squares them up.
00:23:29The Hema just puts a little bit of speed there on Tommy Dearden and Isaac Tango.
00:23:35He gets over.
00:23:36Sean Johnson, all three halves involved in this play.
00:23:39It's when they've looked at their best, Kez.
00:23:42Linking up.
00:23:42Just holding up that middle third of the park.
00:23:44That crucial lead line.
00:23:45That last middle.
00:23:46Sitting Liam Martin.
00:23:47Sitting Tommy Dearden.
00:23:49And just giving someone's edges.
00:23:51Isaac Tango in this instance.
00:23:52Just went out and taped the footy.
00:23:54And taped Tony Staggs on one-on-one.
00:23:57Dying effort out the back there.
00:23:58They're fullbacks these days, man.
00:23:59Put their bodies on the line.
00:24:02Happy with that, Trent?
00:24:05He doesn't get it in the first attempt, does he, Trent?
00:24:08You can see it up there.
00:24:09And his feet are up.
00:24:10I think he gets it down just before his foot goes out.
00:24:12But I'd like to have another look.
00:24:16Hasn't been confirmed.
00:24:17They take this one off of Bossy.
00:24:19There will be a right.
00:24:23I might come up to a commentary box now, boys, just in case.
00:24:28The one's already got the ball in the tee.
00:24:30Waiting for confirmation of the try.
00:24:36Have a look at both leads.
00:24:38It's both feet, isn't it?
00:24:39They go very close.
00:24:40Oh, it's gone.
00:24:41Oh, no.
00:24:42It's a right foot.
00:24:45Does he get it down before that right foot hits the touchline?
00:24:52That foot's up.
00:24:53Yep.
00:24:54I'm giving it, Kez.
00:24:56Try.
00:24:56Oh, I don't know.
00:25:00Shot by Bossy.
00:25:02And then...
00:25:03Does he keep control of that ball?
00:25:04Oh, I think this is tied.
00:25:11Adam G, he hasn't moved yet.
00:25:14It's totally out of his hands.
00:25:16It's all in the bunker with Chris Butler.
00:25:20Still, they wait for the decision.
00:25:24It has been confirmed.
00:25:26Well, there could only be millimetres in it.
00:25:33Sit back down, Sean.
00:25:35Yeah, that was a business decision, boys.
00:25:37We've had a few moments like this.
00:25:39Remember, far longer last week against Tonga.
00:25:41Could have won it for them.
00:25:44He scores.
00:25:45They're playing last night, Sabah.
00:25:48Cricht needs to get every one.
00:25:52This from the touchline.
00:25:5932 to 12.
00:26:0170-54 on the block.
00:26:04Quite not good enough.
00:26:0632 to 12, it remains.
00:26:09It ain't over yet.
00:26:1132 to 12.
00:26:13Under 18 minutes to go.
00:26:15Needless to say, Samoa need to score the next one.
00:26:19And then one after that.
00:26:22And then strap yourself in.
00:26:24Yuelu.
00:26:28And the Samoans at 20 points, the difference.
00:26:3120 points was the margin in the 2022 World Cup final at Old Trafford.
00:26:39Yuelu back in with my ball.
00:26:42Again, he gets himself facing his team, mate, but hasn't been able to drop the ball back tonight.
00:26:49Yuelu quickly out of Debbie Hart.
00:26:51Smug it there by Cotton.
00:26:55On their 40.
00:26:56On their 40, last tackle.
00:26:57Yuelu.
00:26:58Try your luck with a bomb again.
00:27:00Mid-range.
00:27:02Underneath it.
00:27:02Bostock.
00:27:03Handled by Crumden.
00:27:05Australia have it inside their 30.
00:27:09Keep an eye on the Aussie bench, what Kebby does with his four-finger change.
00:27:15He used Ethan Strange last Saturday night up in Townsville.
00:27:21And out of the top for Borbic.
00:27:26Australia will just work through their sets.
00:27:29You'd have to think one more absolutely ends it.
00:27:33While it's 20, Samoas still fancy themselves as a chance.
00:27:39Grants.
00:27:40Munster.
00:27:40Busy again.
00:27:42Happy to run at the line.
00:27:44Make that his 14th carry of the night.
00:27:46Last tackle, Australia.
00:27:48Dearden.
00:27:49Kicks.
00:27:49For Bostock.
00:27:50To chase hard.
00:27:52Tabio Fido with it.
00:27:54No one run off the ball.
00:27:55Play on Samoa.
00:27:56Another good set from Australia there.
00:27:58It's not about points.
00:28:00It's about time.
00:28:01They keep finishing their sets over the next couple of minutes.
00:28:04And they'll finish off this game.
00:28:05Whereas for Samoa.
00:28:06They need to start asking question on question.
00:28:09They need to set up.
00:28:10They need to find to play the ball.
00:28:12Falongo.
00:28:13He can create.
00:28:14But I'd rather him create on tackles three and four.
00:28:16Not on tackle two.
00:28:19That was tackle two there.
00:28:20Where he took that carry.
00:28:21Straight away brushed aside from would-be defenders.
00:28:25He can certainly make you look silly.
00:28:27So Falongo.
00:28:28They kick early.
00:28:29Volkman.
00:28:29He's got this towards the sideline.
00:28:32And they say found touch.
00:28:34I think Australia thought it was out of the fall.
00:28:36It's not a 40-20 though.
00:28:37Play the ball.
00:28:39Play the ball.
00:28:40Oh, he went for the all or nothing play there, Ronnie.
00:28:43Just saw Reece Walsh leaning towards that right side.
00:28:47Kicks it from inside.
00:28:47He's 30.
00:28:48If he was closer to the 40-meter line.
00:28:50Would have been a chance.
00:28:52Oh, that was close.
00:28:54Reece Walsh was here.
00:28:55He thought it was gone.
00:28:56It's going to be a great angle.
00:28:59Bang.
00:29:01Straight on the line.
00:29:02You reckon?
00:29:03What do you look at that, Luke?
00:29:06I'm fine with it on that last replay.
00:29:10That's the Ducks and Greats.
00:29:12That's how it will please him.
00:29:13It's Australia.
00:29:14One set closer to a win.
00:29:16Under 15 to go.
00:29:1832-12.
00:29:20It was 24, the difference at halftime.
00:29:23Get away, Spencer, get up!
00:29:26Hold!
00:29:27So, the Samoan fans down at the moment.
00:29:30They need a moment to bring them right back.
00:29:3232-18 might do that.
00:29:3432-12 doesn't.
00:29:37So, they're not generating the atmosphere right now.
00:29:40Munster and Dierden out to Walsh.
00:29:41Quick hand stags.
00:29:42On to Kubojevic.
00:29:43He'll take on Luai.
00:29:45He beats Luai.
00:29:46He's beaten another.
00:29:47Then offloaded.
00:29:48Dierden.
00:29:49Got it away to Munster.
00:29:50In and away goes Cameron.
00:29:52Now up the middle.
00:29:53Back to Walsh.
00:29:54Race has got a hat-trick.
00:29:56I don't know what you call the finish.
00:30:01The Kangaroos.
00:30:03A little bit of razzle and dazzle.
00:30:07They look on their way to the final.
00:30:10Oh, this is as good as it gets from the Kangaroos.
00:30:13They are feeling it at the moment.
00:30:15You can forgive them for just tucking the ball up.
00:30:17Getting to their end of their sets.
00:30:19Kicking the ball back down to this Samoan side.
00:30:21But no, they decide to shift the ball and what comes off it.
00:30:25I think it's the try of the tournament for this Kangaroos side.
00:30:28You'll see on the Harvey Norman replay.
00:30:29A midfield shift.
00:30:31Again, all three spine members involved.
00:30:32Dierden deep in the line.
00:30:34Great hands there from Rhys Walsh.
00:30:36Tommy Chiboyevich.
00:30:37He just bounces back on the inside.
00:30:39They'll find Munster through the middle of the field.
00:30:40He's been absolutely enormous in this second half.
00:30:44Runs the ball and then Rhys Walsh.
00:30:46The man that gets it done there.
00:30:48And that is not a great swan dive.
00:30:52Six touches from the half.
00:30:55We go from Munster to Dierden to Walsh.
00:30:58Then it goes time with Travojevic.
00:31:00Dierden back to Munster.
00:31:01And then he finds Walsh again.
00:31:03That's been the story of the night.
00:31:05Six touches in one play from the halves of Australia.
00:31:11Walsh.
00:31:11Yeah, that's interesting.
00:31:14His first hat trick in a Kangaroos jersey.
00:31:16Tries in the 31st minute.
00:31:18The 46th.
00:31:20The 65th.
00:31:23Walsh with three.
00:31:29And Munster.
00:31:30An easy one.
00:31:32The score is big.
00:31:33It's 38 to 12.
00:31:39Big night for the Australian fullback with a hat trick.
00:31:43There's been a few of them in this tournament.
00:31:46Samoa get the ball back from the kickoff.
00:31:49Now it's all on.
00:31:51Oh, Junior.
00:31:52Yes.
00:31:53Wide to topple.
00:31:55He beat Bostock.
00:31:57Junior Barlow.
00:31:59There's a halfback of that front rowers body wanting to come out.
00:32:02With respect, Junior, there might be two.
00:32:04Now Yuelu.
00:32:07Followed up by Bolo.
00:32:10Cotter.
00:32:11Offload.
00:32:11Yuelu.
00:32:12Barlow.
00:32:13Kept going.
00:32:14Luai got away from Staggs.
00:32:16Back infield.
00:32:17Oh, Staggs went for Luai Zetke.
00:32:19What a little souvenir there.
00:32:22Yuelu.
00:32:24Barlow.
00:32:25There's Volkman.
00:32:27Crichton with it.
00:32:29Crichton.
00:32:30Five metres away from the line.
00:32:3611 and a half minutes to go and 26 to difference.
00:32:40Luai is certainly keeping the ball alive.
00:32:43Barlow, a little more conventional this time.
00:32:46Kept alive from McEwen.
00:32:47Then back for Tottenham.
00:32:50This is an interesting phase of play from Samoa.
00:32:54It's almost turned into touch football.
00:32:57Yuelu.
00:32:58Junior Barlow.
00:32:59He is playing as an extra playmaker.
00:33:02Keon Ruiz Zetke.
00:33:03Cotter there.
00:33:04Kolo Matai.
00:33:05In defence.
00:33:07Yuelu.
00:33:07With Volkman.
00:33:09Luai.
00:33:10Can he find space on the left?
00:33:13Otungro got a goal.
00:33:15Great pass.
00:33:17Tabui Fido scores.
00:33:21Referee wants to go to the bunker again.
00:33:24Chris.
00:33:26Four come in to five.
00:33:28Got no try.
00:33:29I think we've got contact on Liam Martin.
00:33:31They then gained an advantage through that space.
00:33:38We've got Volkman here.
00:33:39Going to the line.
00:33:41Let's have a look at the...
00:33:45lead runner.
00:33:49Volkman...
00:33:49Holds up the pass.
00:33:53Clips Liam Martin.
00:33:54I don't know whether that's enough to take it off him.
00:33:57Between Francis...
00:33:58Mani Le Luai and Liam Martin.
00:34:02They talk about running to the inside shoulder of the player.
00:34:06He definitely does that.
00:34:08If there's enough force for him to fall over...
00:34:11That's up to the bunker to decide.
00:34:12But I'm happy with that.
00:34:14But then Luai kicks.
00:34:15They don't run through the hole automatically.
00:34:17He will kick, won't he?
00:34:21I don't think that's enough to lose your legs.
00:34:23I feel like there's any contact with Liam Martin's face.
00:34:53It will be the contact with the jaw that will take it off him there.
00:34:58Just looking at the left shoulder here of Liam Martin...
00:35:01Of Francis Mani Le Luai.
00:35:02Makes contact there with the face of Liam Martin.
00:35:06The obligation of the lead runner is to get through the line.
00:35:09This contact with Liam Martin takes him out of the defensive structure
00:35:12as it's been struck in the head.
00:35:15Jerome Duai is now able to push into the line,
00:35:17taking that advantage of an obstruction.
00:35:20Do you have a decision?
00:35:22And the contact with the shoulder hits his head.
00:35:24Isn't that a decision on him?
00:35:26Did you contact the decision to commit to it?
00:35:28No, he didn't turn in.
00:35:30I said he didn't turn in.
00:35:31Do you want to help play it to disappear?
00:35:33Do you want to help play it to disappear?
00:35:33No, no, I'm not saying that.
00:35:34I'm saying the constant obligation is on the plate to get through.
00:35:37I can live with the call.
00:35:38I think the contact with the jaw of Martin,
00:35:42that's what decides it.
00:35:43I think the line of it,
00:35:45I still think he could have kept his feet
00:35:47tied up into that space,
00:35:48but contact with the head
00:35:51not allowed in our game,
00:35:52so I can understand the penalty.
00:35:55Well, angst for the Samoan fans.
00:35:58Ten and a half minutes to go.
00:35:59No, they're not joining in on the song, let me tell you.
00:36:02They're not Jimmy Barnes fans at this point.
00:36:05Hard ball back with Martin.
00:36:07He's back over the 40-meter line.
00:36:09He's fresh as a daisy after the hit.
00:36:12And Australia had possession.
00:36:15The final now is so close for them.
00:36:19And as Jaleesa reported earlier,
00:36:21there will be tickets released.
00:36:24Maybe even as soon as tonight,
00:36:25if not tomorrow morning, certainly.
00:36:29Moving towards 50,000-plus for the World Cup final.
00:36:33Colomitangny, 40 meters away from the line.
00:36:36I don't know whether Australia
00:36:37have finished their work yet.
00:36:38Deirdre out to Preston.
00:36:40Walsh was looming up.
00:36:41Walsh is there.
00:36:43And collected there by Crichton.
00:36:4630 away on play number four.
00:36:51Walsh slow.
00:36:52On in the back lane, again.
00:36:53Jermaine McEwen.
00:36:54McEwen and Preston just taking the set of stage here.
00:37:02Get out of it.
00:37:04It's just unnecessary.
00:37:05Get out of it.
00:37:06So middle, Jermaine McEwen's on backing down at all.
00:37:10There you go.
00:37:12Why does Preston have to come in?
00:37:13Jermaine got up, didn't he?
00:37:15Just leaves the tackle.
00:37:18It goes beeline for Preston.
00:37:26It must have been some work said there.
00:37:30Oh, there it is there.
00:37:30Preston just to push on the back.
00:37:32Jermaine McEwen, he's not going to take any of that.
00:37:35Let's go.
00:37:35Adam G, he's given a penalty here.
00:37:37I'm not sure why that is a penalty.
00:37:44Fellas, here we go.
00:37:46So Australia off the penalty.
00:37:4715 away from the line.
00:37:49Best to Munster.
00:37:51Who was going to fall.
00:37:53Fusuma Lowy is now only five from the line.
00:37:59Samoa's last stand of the World Cup, if you will.
00:38:04Grants, Kerrigan, Munster, Walsh.
00:38:08And the Bears feeds along.
00:38:09Bostock goes over.
00:38:11Jack's got another test drive.
00:38:14The two wiggers, Bostock and Trebojevich,
00:38:17have had a field day at the World Cup.
00:38:20Yeah, they're loving this left edge tonight.
00:38:23You wait till you see the hands here from Bradman Best.
00:38:26This is slick work.
00:38:28Again, I think it's Cameron Munster that comes down the short side.
00:38:31But you'll see on the Harvey Norman replay, another shift.
00:38:34Just out to this left-hand side.
00:38:36Bang, Walsh just turns the afterburners on.
00:38:39And then Bradman Best.
00:38:42Wow.
00:38:44They've just identified that gap in between Volkman and Crichton.
00:38:48This time, Volkman reads it well, gets off.
00:38:51Crichton doesn't trust that he's going to get to Walsh.
00:38:53Comes in and creates that space on the outside.
00:38:55They've had problems there all night.
00:38:59Yeah, they've been slick this spine for Australia tonight.
00:39:02Sean, you've seen all the Kiwi games.
00:39:05You've been to two of these Australian games now.
00:39:07Where do you have the two sides placed?
00:39:10Well, this is a state that's going for the Australians, so we cannot take anything away from them, boys.
00:39:14Like, you want to be playing your best footy, your most collected, your most connected footy at this time of
00:39:20this tournament.
00:39:21And the Aussie have done that tonight.
00:39:23They've been so good.
00:39:23They've put pressure on Samoa at the right times.
00:39:26They've been disappointed with the footy and without it.
00:39:28At moments like that, Reece Walsh, in fact that you saw him put the afterburners on early for his first
00:39:34try.
00:39:34He was able to split between Crichton and Volkman then.
00:39:38That's what spooks Crichton in this case.
00:39:40Just that little pulse of pace.
00:39:42Been able to deliver and release the ball at the right time.
00:39:44Classy, classy performance from this Australian side.
00:39:47But we are going to get a last replacement for Australia.
00:39:50Ethan Strange is up.
00:39:51So there'll be no Latrell Mitchell.
00:39:53It'll be Strange going on for his second test.
00:39:56Played the last six and a half minutes.
00:40:00This is bread and butter for Cameron Munster.
00:40:04Here he goes.
00:40:06Cameron Munster gets another one.
00:40:11Six and a half to go.
00:40:13Jack Bostock, the latest try scorer.
00:40:16Eight tries to two.
00:40:19Bostock has another one now.
00:40:21Seven tries in four tests.
00:40:29And breaks the plane.
00:40:32Oh, nice catch.
00:40:33Clean.
00:40:33Trabojevic.
00:40:34Snags was knocked out of the way.
00:40:36Although they say penalty, Samoa.
00:40:38And then Trabojevic is dragged over the sideline by Luai.
00:40:42Jerome, it's your penalty.
00:40:44It's your penalty.
00:40:46It's your penalty.
00:40:46Jerome, well, I think here Australia need to collect their thoughts and say, well, we've
00:40:51got a final to play next week.
00:40:54You can do what you like.
00:40:57They need to keep a cool head here.
00:41:00Come.
00:41:01Away.
00:41:03Too late.
00:41:04Too late.
00:41:05Tom was taken over the sideline.
00:41:07No, it doesn't matter.
00:41:09Your ball.
00:41:10Escort.
00:41:11Escort.
00:41:12Your ball.
00:41:13Yep.
00:41:14There you go.
00:41:15They caught with an escort.
00:41:15Well, Trabojevic actually knocked Stags out of the way, but penalty goes Samoa's way.
00:41:22Tom's a lover, not a fighter.
00:41:24All the Trabojevic's are.
00:41:26Samoa have the ball.
00:41:2839 metres away from the Australian line.
00:41:31At 44-12.
00:41:34Jazz Zabunga on this carry.
00:41:37Oh!
00:41:39Hot release!
00:41:40So the Samoan fans have largely stuck around.
00:41:44They would like a few more to finish.
00:41:46Oh, flip past Taco.
00:41:48Got it away.
00:41:50Clayton Falallo on his sixth debut gets a touch.
00:41:54And it's 15 for the line.
00:41:55Set restart.
00:41:56Conceded by Walsh.
00:41:58So the young manly fullback out there for Samoa.
00:42:04Now the stepping of Ronald Volkman.
00:42:06Kill him, hurry, get up!
00:42:11Yuelu, dummy.
00:42:12Oh, Tammy Ofido.
00:42:13He went the wrong way.
00:42:15Crichton with the ball.
00:42:17It's not that the dummy's meant to work.
00:42:19It's meant to fool the defence, not your fellow attackers.
00:42:22Still ten away.
00:42:24Yuelu down.
00:42:25Four and a half to go.
00:42:27Benaya Yuelu.
00:42:28Wrapped up by Koloa Watan.
00:42:31Inside the posts.
00:42:32Crichton.
00:42:34Tavunga.
00:42:34Forward flat.
00:42:36Barlow.
00:42:37Just caught there by Cotter.
00:42:40Now Yuelu.
00:42:41There for Luai.
00:42:43Kick.
00:42:44Ricocheted off the legs of Crichton.
00:42:46Went the way of Toto.
00:42:48They said play that.
00:42:49They get another set of six.
00:42:52Toto back to the middle.
00:42:54Tino.
00:42:55Tino, get out, get out!
00:42:57Yuelu.
00:42:57Tino, square up.
00:42:58They crack from here.
00:43:00Molo.
00:43:01And Molo down.
00:43:03Take it square.
00:43:05Yuelu looks up.
00:43:06He sees all the playmakers on the left.
00:43:08It's Volkman there.
00:43:09And Barlow tries to shrug over the top of Cotter.
00:43:13Clean balls, Tungal.
00:43:15And he is nailed there by Katoni Stax.
00:43:19They've been on each other all night, those two.
00:43:22In Samoan and Australian centres.
00:43:24Now back forward to Bunga.
00:43:25Fourth tackle.
00:43:28There's Tabuifido in all this play.
00:43:30Can't get his hands on the ball.
00:43:32Volkman.
00:43:32The starts to go short off load.
00:43:35Collision of bodies.
00:43:37Play on for Samoa.
00:43:38Drop ball.
00:43:39Play on again.
00:43:41It's anyone's.
00:43:41This is ridiculous.
00:43:42What are they playing?
00:43:44The ball's everywhere like Hungry, Hungry Hippo there.
00:43:47Oh, now we go again.
00:43:49Preston and Volkman this time.
00:43:52Because we're going to have a seat.
00:43:55They're going to challenge it.
00:43:56They're going to challenge that.
00:43:57They're going to challenge the ball.
00:43:58They're going to challenge it.
00:43:59Over you, Hungry Hippo.
00:44:01Get away.
00:44:02Get away.
00:44:03Let's go.
00:44:04Side line officials.
00:44:05Refs.
00:44:06Every player just about.
00:44:09Yeah, out of G.
00:44:10He's struggling out there.
00:44:11Just keeping them apart.
00:44:12Ronnie Volkman.
00:44:12Just watch him here come over the top.
00:44:14Ronald on report.
00:44:15Strong contact.
00:44:16Straight across the face there.
00:44:19Of Jacob Preston.
00:44:20He's been in the middle of absolutely everything tonight, Preston.
00:44:22Contact on the ground.
00:44:23On report.
00:44:24He's on report.
00:44:26Let's go.
00:44:28Fair shot.
00:44:30Yeah, that's been the story of the night for Samoa.
00:44:34Just taking it a little bit too far on discipline.
00:44:36They had such an opportunity tonight.
00:44:38And they've ruined it with ill discipline.
00:44:40They haven't been able to play field position.
00:44:43Too many errors.
00:44:44Too many penalties.
00:44:45Too many opportunities for Australia.
00:44:47Australia won't mind that finish.
00:44:49Defending your goal line like they have tonight.
00:44:51They've had one off a kick.
00:44:53One on a shift left from Samoa.
00:44:55But their defence has improved remarkably tonight.
00:44:59They've been so much better.
00:45:00So much more aggressive.
00:45:01And to finish on a goal line D set.
00:45:03And keep them out on multiple plays like that.
00:45:06Is a win for Australia.
00:45:08What if they match?
00:45:09What if New Zealand and Australia match what they did here just over three weeks ago?
00:45:13What a final we are in for in the men's.
00:45:17Seriously.
00:45:18One of the great games.
00:45:20What up with it Francis?
00:45:21You've been spoiled at the World Cup.
00:45:22I know we've had lopsided score lines.
00:45:24But you go back to last Sunday night.
00:45:26And he's punched a hammer.
00:45:28Front on.
00:45:29They're coming from all angles.
00:45:31Molo wants a piece of Cameron as well.
00:45:33Cameron easy.
00:45:35Well bossy you can see that Australia.
00:45:37Their best game so far in the series tonight.
00:45:40New Zealand have been ready.
00:45:42They've been playing outstanding footy.
00:45:44This game next Sunday is game on.
00:45:46And it's two teams ready to play in fine form.
00:45:49It'll be a great final for the World Cup.
00:45:52Jambi Alfido.
00:45:53Good catch off a Munster bomb with Staggs coming through.
00:45:57So into the final 90 seconds now.
00:46:00Falello.
00:46:01That's great reward for him.
00:46:02Getting a test cap here tonight.
00:46:05Late for Samoa.
00:46:07Ball here with Brian Topple.
00:46:11So get your tickets if you want to get to the World Cup final.
00:46:14There's the double.
00:46:15It's Australia and New Zealand in both women's and men's.
00:46:25Now Uellu.
00:46:26Hulkman.
00:46:27Oh well it's a kick but there's only a half-hearted chase.
00:46:31It was Creighton running through.
00:46:33Bostock watches it go over the sideline.
00:46:35There will be time for the scrum.
00:46:37Ray sweeps across again.
00:46:39It's a little heavier than that.
00:46:41It's made it awkward for the supporters.
00:46:43Not the party Samoa was hoping for.
00:46:47But may I say on behalf of everyone.
00:46:50And I mean commentary team but also people watching all around the world to you Samoan fans.
00:46:57You have added to the flavour of the World Cup.
00:47:00It's been magnificent.
00:47:01Give room junior.
00:47:07Give room junior.
00:47:09On the World Cup stage.
00:47:10Maybe Utah or somewhere in Hawaii.
00:47:15Not happy again with a little bit of extra in the tackle.
00:47:19the last play of the game
00:47:21he thought about kicking
00:47:24he'll run it over the sideline
00:47:27and there it is
00:47:30we're down to two
00:47:33it'll be Australia versus New Zealand
00:47:36the best of friends Tasman rivalry
00:47:39in the World Cup final
00:47:46Samoa
00:47:47beaten by two by Tonga
00:47:51tonight beaten by Australia
00:47:5344 points to 12
00:48:03we've highlighted Australia's best
00:48:05performance of the World Cup
00:48:08now to see what they bring to the final stage
00:48:11in front of over 50,000
00:48:13it's uncalled next week
00:48:15you can see the heartbreak here
00:48:17on the small players' faces
00:48:19Jermaine McEwen there with his club team mate
00:48:21Cramden best
00:48:23disappointing for this small side
00:48:24but what a ruthless display
00:48:26from the kangaroos at their absolute best
00:48:28they've been questioned all tournament
00:48:30haven't quite got there
00:48:31but tonight that is as good as it gets
00:48:34yeah they were outstanding tonight
00:48:36so dominant
00:48:37they were physical in defence
00:48:39they were much more physical in defence
00:48:42I think they won the set metres by 5 metres
00:48:45against Samoa
00:48:46they got off the line
00:48:48they tackled well
00:48:49and then clinical in attack
00:48:50the way that the halves ran the system
00:48:5326 runs
00:48:5426 runs
00:48:55between the halves
00:48:57Dearden and Munster
00:48:58it was such a clear performance there
00:49:00from the spine of Australia
00:49:04the exchange of jerseys
00:49:06between the
00:49:07Australian and Samoan players
00:49:12on what we saw tonight
00:49:14or earlier this evening
00:49:15from the women's
00:49:16Australia have
00:49:17certainly New Zealand
00:49:19played their best match
00:49:20of the tournament yesterday
00:49:22in winning through to the final
00:49:26we could have a tight one in both
00:49:28how good
00:49:30Anzac spirit will be alive and well
00:49:33in the World Cup
00:49:34final night of rugby league
00:49:35for the season
00:49:43and we will stand by to hear from
00:49:45captains and man of the match tonight
00:49:48well Brighton and Preston had it all night
00:49:51they're back to being mates
00:49:52and that's the way it is
00:49:54it's on the test stage
00:49:55with everything
00:49:55at stake
00:49:58Preston has certainly
00:49:59stepped up as an elite player
00:50:00hasn't he
00:50:02now
00:50:03in the Australian side
00:50:04handled all of that
00:50:06Newcastle boys
00:50:07come together
00:50:08post-test
00:50:11what a year
00:50:12Francis Manu
00:50:13Leleua
00:50:1515 NRL games
00:50:17a grand final
00:50:18now a World Cup start
00:50:22well see
00:50:22just going back to Preston
00:50:24it's what you talked about
00:50:25I saw him make his test
00:50:26debut
00:50:28and happy about
00:50:29playing
00:50:30the game
00:50:31and he just wanted to do
00:50:32his role
00:50:32and then tonight
00:50:33the verbal
00:50:34the physicality
00:50:34he took on
00:50:36his team mate
00:50:37Steve Brighton
00:50:38I like the aggression
00:50:39that he played with
00:50:40and he set the tone
00:50:41out on this left edge
00:50:43alright
00:50:44let's go on ground
00:50:45Jaleesa wraps
00:50:46Isaiah
00:50:46it was the rain
00:50:47teams down here
00:50:48what was that like
00:50:49it was an intense
00:50:49clash wasn't it
00:50:50yeah it was
00:50:51it was a lot of emotion
00:50:53at the start of the game
00:50:53which you'd expect
00:50:54in a World Cup
00:50:55semi-final
00:50:57I thought we started well
00:50:58I thought it was probably
00:50:58the best we'd started
00:50:58this campaign so far
00:51:00and that's the
00:51:01pressure of these
00:51:02big matches
00:51:02that you need to go out
00:51:03and have your best performance
00:51:04I thought we did that
00:51:05tonight
00:51:05I feel like we've built
00:51:06as much as there's been
00:51:06some sort of
00:51:08critiquing going on
00:51:08from the outside
00:51:09I feel like we've been
00:51:09building each week
00:51:10and we're still chasing
00:51:11our best performance
00:51:12but I thought that was
00:51:13a real step in the right direction
00:51:14was that the best one
00:51:15you've felt so far
00:51:16in the competition
00:51:16yeah it was
00:51:17probably felt like
00:51:18the most control we had
00:51:19conditions were tough
00:51:20it was sort of
00:51:20on and off again rain
00:51:21the wind was sort of
00:51:22annoying for both sides
00:51:23I reckon
00:51:24but just thought we still
00:51:25played footy
00:51:25it wasn't really
00:51:26high risk or anything
00:51:27but we just sort of
00:51:28just let our
00:51:29expected players shine
00:51:30and I thought they did
00:51:31that tonight
00:51:31and into a final
00:51:32we're going to see
00:51:33the match up
00:51:33that you started
00:51:34the competition
00:51:35with New Zealand
00:51:36that's going to be
00:51:37tough isn't it
00:51:37yeah it is
00:51:38what a wonderful way
00:51:40it was to start
00:51:40the World Cup
00:51:41with both teams
00:51:42I thought were outstanding
00:51:44but yeah
00:51:44as the tournament
00:51:45goes on
00:51:46both teams
00:51:46have gotten better
00:51:47and yeah
00:51:48hell of a match up
00:51:49I think
00:51:49and yeah fitting
00:51:50and as the captain
00:51:51can you feel that
00:51:52excitement individually
00:51:54well not just
00:51:54I'm just pretty happy
00:51:55with that performance
00:51:55at the moment
00:51:56but I'm sure
00:51:56as the week builds
00:51:57it's yeah
00:51:58I'm excited for it
00:51:59you love to play
00:51:59in these big games

00:52:00your country

00:52:03in this game

00:52:43we spoke about
00:52:44it was always for the culture
00:52:45and we wouldn't change a thing
00:52:49to the boys
00:52:50because there's not a bunch
00:52:51of other blokes
00:52:52that I want to take the field with

00:53:04they've stayed in the conditions too
00:53:06you were there four years ago
00:53:07when you made history then
00:53:08and you've just built on that now
00:53:10can you cast your mind
00:53:11to four years from now
00:53:13what this team might look like
00:53:15yeah
00:53:15the future is in good hands
00:53:19you know
00:53:20the start of this journey
00:53:21we all knew what we were capable of
00:53:24and you know
00:53:25we're unfortunate to know
00:53:26that's a credit to the Aussie boys
00:53:28for you know
00:53:29turning up the way they did
00:53:30and putting out their performance
00:53:31it was always going to be tough
00:53:32but we wish them all the best next week
00:53:34and you know
00:53:35like I said
00:53:36Samoa's hands are in

00:53:53Rhys Walsh
00:53:54how was that
00:53:55yeah
00:53:56it was a crazy atmosphere
00:53:57the Samoan fans really came out
00:54:00and
00:54:00you know
00:54:01showed their support to their boys
00:54:02but
00:54:03all credit to the
00:54:03you know Aussie fans
00:54:05and all these boys
00:54:06really heard you out there
00:54:07and

00:54:08so I was mad
00:54:08felt like you couldn't stop smiling
00:54:10during that game
00:54:11what's it like to be out there
00:54:12when you're getting on a roll
00:54:13oh it's good fun
00:54:14I think
00:54:15when the crowd's really engaged
00:54:16and you know
00:54:17they show their passion
00:54:18I feel like it's an awesome atmosphere
00:54:20to be a part of
00:54:21and
00:54:21you know
00:54:22just having a lot of fun out there
00:54:23with this group of boys
00:54:23and I feel like we're just
00:54:24we're steady building
00:54:25so it's been good fun
00:54:26I noticed you withheld the backflip
00:54:28in the second half
00:54:30did you
00:54:30you had to tame yourself down there
00:54:32oh I got in trouble at half time
00:54:34but
00:54:34there was a bunch of kids
00:54:35like all week
00:54:36at our hotel every morning
00:54:37and every
00:54:38every time I seen them
00:54:39they kept going
00:54:39can you do a backflip
00:54:40can you do a backflip
00:54:40I was like
00:54:41might as well put on a show
00:54:42for the kids
00:54:43and the prospect of going into
00:54:45this final against New Zealand
00:54:46where you started
00:54:47the tournament as well
00:54:48how exciting is that
00:54:49yeah it's
00:54:51it's going to be a real tough one
00:54:53we all seen the performance
00:54:54they put on
00:54:54last night
00:54:55but
00:54:55you know
00:54:56a lot of work to
00:54:57you know
00:54:58work on throughout the week
00:54:59especially for myself
00:55:00you know
00:55:01but really looking forward
00:55:02to the challenge
00:55:02there's been a lot of chat about them
00:55:04so
00:55:05I'm looking forward to
00:55:06you know
00:55:06getting into training
00:55:07and working really hard
00:55:08and connecting with this group of boys
00:55:09awesome
00:55:10thank you so much
00:55:11thank you guys
00:55:13man of the match

00:55:19what a clash it'll be
00:55:20Australia

00:55:42second semi-final
00:55:43Australia
00:55:4444
00:55:44Samoa 12
00:55:50what an emphatic scoreline
00:55:52in the end
00:55:53lucky enough to say
00:55:54we have one of the
00:55:55superstars
00:55:56of the Kangaroos
00:55:57alongside us
00:55:58Melbourne Storm
00:55:58captain as well
00:56:00Harry Grant
00:56:00delighted to see
00:56:01huge congratulations
00:56:02you are into
00:56:03the Rugby League
00:56:04World Cup final
00:56:05how does that feel
00:56:06I know it's just happened
00:56:07yeah it has happened
00:56:09emotions are all
00:56:10but I guess
00:56:11that's what you set out
00:56:12to do
00:56:12the opportunity
00:56:12to play in the
00:56:13World Cup final
00:56:14and yeah
00:56:15it's been a grind
00:56:15to get there
00:56:16you know
00:56:17certainly
00:56:17sort of found our feet
00:56:18with some footy tonight
00:56:19which was really pleasing
00:56:20but yeah
00:56:21looking forward to getting
00:56:22to Brizzy
00:56:22really sort of
00:56:23diving into the week
00:56:24and hopefully
00:56:25sort of putting a good
00:56:25performance on
00:56:26Harry
00:56:27out in the middle
00:56:27third of the park
00:56:28it was fiery
00:56:29it was fiery for 80 minutes
00:56:31is that something
00:56:31you knew was going to
00:56:32come this week
00:56:33you obviously identified
00:56:34sticking with them
00:56:35and trying to put
00:56:35some pressure on them
00:56:36yeah for sure
00:56:37I think you know
00:56:38what sort of game
00:56:39they bring
00:56:39very physical
00:56:40and intimidating
00:56:41and I think our middles
00:56:42did a really good job
00:56:43of sort of weathering
00:56:44that storm
00:56:44and standing up to that
00:56:46and you know
00:56:46you've got the class
00:56:47on the edges
00:56:48the class like Reece
00:56:50Cam and Tommy did
00:56:52and just really
00:56:53electric off the back of that
00:56:54how important is
00:56:55laying that platform
00:56:56though
00:56:56from the ruck
00:56:57to then
00:56:57Tommy did in his first
00:56:58run off the scrum there
00:56:59but
00:57:00the warning shots
00:57:01it sends to me
00:57:07but how important
00:57:08is it to lay the platform
00:57:09but for Tommy
00:57:09to take that run
00:57:10early on
00:57:11just to get the
00:57:12sirens out the back
00:57:13they might play
00:57:14at the back
00:57:14and he might do
00:57:15the same thing
00:57:15yeah I think that's
00:57:16when Tommy's
00:57:17looking his best
00:57:17he's you know
00:57:18engaging the line
00:57:19taking that
00:57:19that carry first
00:57:20think and run first
00:57:21and he's a real
00:57:22direct competitor
00:57:23he wants to be in the game
00:57:24and that's why
00:57:25I love playing with him
00:57:26he brings so much
00:57:26competitiveness to his game
00:57:28and you've seen that
00:57:29with the first touch
00:57:30of the ball
00:57:30there off the scrum
00:57:31Harry how important
00:57:32was it
00:57:32well was it that
00:57:34important for the
00:57:34Kangaroos to not only
00:57:35win but to make
00:57:36a big statement
00:57:37of course there's been
00:57:37some criticism around
00:57:38that you know
00:57:39the Aussies haven't
00:57:39been at their best
00:57:40but tonight was
00:57:41a big statement
00:57:42I think internally
00:57:43I think Kev's been
00:57:44doing a really good
00:57:45job of driving
00:57:45the group
00:57:46and you know
00:57:47what we're building
00:57:48for and I think
00:57:49we've really seen
00:57:50the Kiwis and the
00:57:51standard of footy
00:57:52that they're playing
00:57:52too throughout the
00:57:53campaign so
00:57:54you know we know
00:57:55that you know
00:57:56they're setting a
00:57:56really high standard
00:57:57of footy
00:57:58and you know
00:57:58we've got to match
00:57:59that but I think
00:58:00internally we know
00:58:00what works for us
00:58:02and it's just about
00:58:02sort of narrowing
00:58:03down on that
00:58:03and making sure
00:58:04we bring that
00:58:05to every session
00:58:06now going forwards
00:58:06Cam Munster
00:58:08he was feeling
00:58:09himself tonight
00:58:10feet standing
00:58:11in contact
00:58:12the Cam Munster
00:58:12that we know
00:58:13what's it been
00:58:14like this Cam
00:58:14what's it been
00:58:15like this week
00:58:15leading into
00:58:16what's been
00:58:16the biggest
00:58:16game for your
00:58:17guys
00:58:17he had the
00:58:18Ben Pomeroy
00:58:19skins on out
00:58:19there so
00:58:20maybe there's
00:58:21something in that
00:58:22a little bit of
00:58:22Mongo strength
00:58:23in those skins
00:58:24he was wearing
00:58:24but yeah
00:58:25he loves this
00:58:26time of year
00:58:27he loves camp
00:58:27he's so excited
00:58:30he's so joyful
00:58:31to be around
00:58:31and he brings the
00:58:32boys together
00:58:33brings so much
00:58:34fun to the group
00:58:34but so much
00:58:35knowledge
00:58:35wisdom
00:58:36and a real
00:58:37steely focus
00:58:38to his footy
00:58:39and I think
00:58:39you've seen it
00:58:40in his games
00:58:40the way he's
00:58:41playing
00:58:41and like I said
00:58:42like Tom
00:58:43he's the ultimate
00:58:44competitor
00:58:44he just wants to
00:58:45be in everything
00:58:46wants to win
00:58:46everything
00:58:47and that's why
00:58:48I love playing
00:58:49pre-kickoff
00:58:50we saw a fair
00:58:51bit of emotion
00:58:52bit of a standoff
00:58:53no personal space
00:58:54shall we say
00:58:55I want to know
00:58:56what that feels
00:58:56like
00:58:57and you know
00:58:57obviously
00:58:58you guys reacted
00:58:59a certain way
00:58:59but what was that
00:59:00like out in the
00:59:01middle
00:59:01I think there's a
00:59:02there's a lot
00:59:02of respect
00:59:03there's a lot
00:59:04of respect
00:59:04throughout the
00:59:05whole tournament
00:59:05you know
00:59:06in those moments
00:59:07and I think
00:59:08I love the
00:59:08ability for
00:59:09every nation
00:59:10to dive into
00:59:11that
00:59:11to really
00:59:12celebrate that
00:59:12and what that
00:59:13does for their
00:59:14people
00:59:14their culture
00:59:15and you know
00:59:16just the movement
00:59:17that it has been
00:59:18throughout this
00:59:18campaign
00:59:18and I think
00:59:19on the other
00:59:20side
00:59:20to be able
00:59:21to be a person
00:59:22that stands
00:59:23in the middle
00:59:24gets to feel
00:59:25that energy
00:59:26you know
00:59:27not many people
00:59:27get to do that
00:59:28so it's pretty surreal
00:59:29and I think
00:59:29we did a really
00:59:30good job
00:59:30of sort of
00:59:30moving on
00:59:31from that
00:59:31straight away
00:59:32do you have a
00:59:32process for after
00:59:33that because
00:59:34you obviously
00:59:34had to deal
00:59:35with it
00:59:35in a few games
00:59:36so far
00:59:36in the tournament
00:59:37but is there
00:59:37something that
00:59:38you guys come
00:59:38together and talk
00:59:39about resetting
00:59:39the breath
00:59:40and getting back
00:59:41to a level
00:59:41where you can
00:59:42be calm
00:59:42and control
00:59:43the game
00:59:44yeah
00:59:44throughout the
00:59:45I guess
00:59:45the NRL
00:59:46there is a
00:59:47level of
00:59:47sort of
00:59:48process
00:59:49through that
00:59:49and everyone's
00:59:50got their own
00:59:50little sort of
00:59:52individual or
00:59:52collective thing
00:59:53as a team
00:59:54but yeah
00:59:54for us
00:59:54it's probably
00:59:55just a breath
00:59:55just sort of
00:59:56resetting
00:59:57moving on
00:59:58and I think
00:59:58just sort of
00:59:59bringing your
00:59:59attention to
01:00:00what's most
01:00:00important
01:00:01but in this
01:00:01level
01:00:02I think
01:00:02there's a lot
01:00:03of trust
01:00:03in the individual
01:00:04to do their
01:00:04own thing
01:00:05yeah
01:00:05the Pacifica
01:00:06Nations
01:00:06we know
01:00:06they've made
01:00:07such a huge
01:00:07statement
01:00:07on the
01:00:08international
01:00:09rugby league
01:00:09scene
01:00:10at this
01:00:10tournament
01:00:11I know
01:00:11your attention
01:00:12will turn
01:00:12to New Zealand
01:00:13you guys
01:00:14at this stadium
01:00:14you'll remember
01:00:15it's only a few
01:00:16weeks ago
01:00:16that unbelievable
01:00:17night here
01:00:18on that Thursday
01:00:19night
01:00:19you're going to
01:00:20do it again
01:00:20in a few days
01:00:21time
01:00:21you said
01:00:21you were already
01:00:21wary of them
01:00:22but that is an
01:00:23absolute heavyweight
01:00:24battle
01:00:24and with some
01:00:25of your teammates
01:00:25as well
01:00:26against them
01:00:26yeah
01:00:27it is a
01:00:28yeah
01:00:28it's a game
01:00:29that probably
01:00:30everyone's looking
01:00:30forward to
01:00:30everyone's
01:00:31penciled in
01:00:31the World Cup
01:00:32final
01:00:33and whether
01:00:33that's the
01:00:34players that are
01:00:35in the campaign
01:00:35or the fans
01:00:36the spectators
01:00:37everyone's looking
01:00:37forward to that
01:00:38I'm just grateful
01:00:39that we've got
01:00:40the opportunity
01:00:40now we've worked
01:00:41extremely hard
01:00:42to get there
01:00:43and pleased with
01:00:44the performance
01:00:44tonight to get
01:00:45that opportunity
01:00:45but now it's
01:00:47about knuckling
01:00:47down
01:00:48understanding New
01:00:49Zealand's
01:00:49strengths
01:00:50and sort of
01:00:51understanding our
01:00:51own strengths
01:00:52and really trying
01:00:52to play to that
01:00:53you guys were
01:00:54brilliant
01:00:54congratulations

01:01:14good I think
01:01:14it was just
01:01:14good to have
01:01:15some rhythm
01:01:15to our game
01:01:16and we
01:01:17completed high
01:01:17and when we
01:01:18do that
01:01:19and we get
01:01:19our defence
01:01:19right
01:01:20we got like
01:01:21the skill
01:01:21and you look
01:01:22at Walshie

01:01:27all our
01:01:28ballplayers
01:01:28a lot of
01:01:28opportunities
01:01:29was it
01:01:30an intimidating
01:01:31game to
01:01:33weren't even
01:01:34stopping
01:01:34when you
01:01:35know
01:01:36screaming
01:01:36every moment
01:01:37oh it's a
01:01:38great atmosphere
01:01:38like the
01:01:40Samoan and
01:01:40the Tongan
01:01:41people they
01:01:41bring so much
01:01:42atmosphere
01:01:42and they're so
01:01:43passionate about
01:01:43their countries
01:01:44and I think
01:01:45that's what
01:01:45makes the
01:01:45international
01:01:46game so
01:01:46great
01:01:47and yeah
01:01:47to have
01:01:48the atmosphere
01:01:48here tonight
01:01:49it was awesome
01:01:49and yeah
01:01:50the energy
01:01:51in the stadium
01:01:51when we ran
01:01:52out it was
01:01:52great and
01:01:53it's good
01:01:53to get the
01:01:54win
01:01:54was that
01:01:55the best
01:01:56game of
01:01:57footy that
01:01:57you've put
01:01:57on for this
01:01:58tournament did
01:01:59you feel
01:01:59I think it's
01:02:00the most
01:02:01rhythm and
01:02:02the way we
01:02:03clicked
01:02:03so I thought
01:02:03was a whole
01:02:04lot better
01:02:05and we're a
01:02:05lot more
01:02:06clinical with

01:05:54they're a
01:05:54different team
01:05:55now
01:05:55like what
01:05:55they produced
01:05:56tonight was
01:05:56just ruthless
01:05:57the precision
01:05:58the discipline
01:05:59that they
01:05:59played with
01:06:00the power
01:06:01through the
01:06:01middle
01:06:01like we
01:06:02haven't seen
01:06:02that through
01:06:02the tournament
01:06:03Tino Fasua
01:06:04Malawi
01:06:04and Pat
01:06:05Carrigan
01:06:05were enormous
01:06:07for this
01:06:07Australian
01:06:08side
01:06:08and I
01:06:08just love
01:06:08the spine
01:06:09Dearden
01:06:10going square
01:06:10in the line
01:06:11he spoke
01:06:11about it
01:06:11I think
01:06:12Munster had
01:06:1216 carries
01:06:13and then that
01:06:14just allowed
01:06:14the space
01:06:15for Reece
01:06:15Walsh
01:06:15out the back
01:06:16Robbo to
01:06:16you we saw
01:06:17so much
01:06:17emotion
01:06:18before kickoff
01:06:19so much
01:06:19promise
01:06:19from Samoa
01:06:20what can
01:06:22the Samoans
01:06:23take out
01:06:23of this
01:06:23their campaign
01:06:24and tonight
01:06:25look I mean
01:06:26we look at
01:06:26the crowd
01:06:27tonight
01:06:27the Samoan
01:06:28people
01:06:28made this
01:06:29World Cup
01:06:30along with
01:06:30the Tongans
01:06:31Fijians
01:06:31but tonight
01:06:32you can have
01:06:33the fire
01:06:34you can start
01:06:35with the fire
01:06:36but you must
01:06:36bring the footy
01:06:37and the footy
01:06:37didn't follow
01:06:38tonight
01:06:39it was
01:06:39it ended up
01:06:40being a
01:06:40disappointing
01:06:40night
01:06:41footy wise
01:06:41for Samoa
01:06:42Sean Johnson
01:06:43you said
01:06:44you're in the
01:06:44mood to call
01:06:45a spade
01:06:45a spade
01:06:46oh yeah
01:06:46Mal
01:06:47look I'm
01:06:47torn standing
01:06:48here because
01:06:48I don't want
01:06:49to take
01:06:49anything
01:06:49away from
01:06:50what Aussie
01:06:50produced
01:06:50but I
01:06:52can't help
01:06:53but have
01:06:53this frustration
01:06:54around how
01:06:55the game
01:06:55was officiated
01:06:56I feel like
01:06:57Adam G
01:06:59he got
01:07:00calls wrong
01:07:00and he was
01:07:02confusing in
01:07:02some of his
01:07:03calls
01:07:03and gave
01:07:04Australia
01:07:04the rub of
01:07:05the green
01:07:05tonight
01:07:05they just
01:07:06got every
01:07:06little call
01:07:07and he wasn't
01:07:08supported by
01:07:08the bunker
01:07:09Chris Butler
01:07:09either
01:07:10look I can
01:07:11understand
01:07:11refs are
01:07:12humans
01:07:12and I can
01:07:12understand
01:07:13getting calls
01:07:13wrong in the
01:07:14moment
01:07:14what I can't
01:07:14understand is
01:07:15going to
01:07:16someone who
01:07:16has all the
01:07:17technology at
01:07:17their disposal
01:07:18and over
01:07:19turning a
01:07:20call or
01:07:20giving an
01:07:21explanation on
01:07:22a call that's
01:07:22just incorrect
01:07:23that's what I'm
01:07:24frustrated by and I
01:07:25felt like we got
01:07:25that tonight and
01:07:26I'm sitting here I
01:07:28feel like someone
01:07:28that they were hard
01:07:29done by they did
01:07:30not get a fair shot
01:07:31through some of
01:07:32these calls and
01:07:33calls within 80
01:07:33minutes of footy are
01:07:34massive what they can
01:07:36produce and how they
01:07:37can shift momentum are
01:07:38massive but in saying
01:07:39that I do not take my
01:07:40words back around
01:07:41someone needs to be
01:07:42better at handling
01:07:43that because we've all
01:07:44been in games we've
01:07:45had bad calls okay and
01:07:47you've got to be able to
01:07:47handle that just as
01:07:48well so look very
01:07:49frustrated at the
01:07:50officiating I will say
01:07:51that okay but Samoa
01:07:53needed to be better at
01:07:53how they handled it I
01:07:54do think I mean the
01:07:55Crichton try was the
01:07:56big one the knock on
01:07:57on the the bunker
01:07:59decision there where it
01:08:00felt like he knocked it
01:08:01back into the hand that
01:08:03was in front and they
01:08:04caught it a knock on and
01:08:05then it ends up being a
01:08:06no try that was a really
01:08:07critical one the ill
01:08:09discipline off the back
01:08:10end here we are we've
01:08:12got McEwen going through
01:08:14great chase great
01:08:15competition goes back into
01:08:17Crichton's hands but
01:08:19Walsh's hand is on the
01:08:21other side of his hand
01:08:24there and it's clearly a
01:08:26knock back and for
01:08:26anyone at home saying oh
01:08:28look that might be six
01:08:29points they lost by 40
01:08:30odd this is at a crucial
01:08:31time in the game because
01:08:32after this Australia go
01:08:33down the other it's a 12
01:08:34point swing you know and
01:08:36this is what momentum is
01:08:37this is what you feel as a
01:08:38player on the ground how it
01:08:40makes you feel when you're
01:08:41in the arena it's different
01:08:42to what it's like for us
01:08:43like viewing it at home
01:08:44or through the broadcast
01:08:45boxer on the sideline he's
01:08:47done a great job Adam G
01:08:48obviously the grand final
01:08:49he's reffed some big games
01:08:50here he reffed last week
01:08:51Samoa Tonga he gets
01:08:53reps all the time I'm with
01:08:55you Sean there was a few
01:08:56things there especially the
01:08:56start of the game just
01:08:57swung momentum couple
01:08:58six agains down this end of
01:09:00the field which were very
01:09:01borderline the right call
01:09:03on Stephen Crichton he gets
01:09:04the challenge wrong then he
01:09:04penalizes Samoa at the
01:09:06other end for a very similar
01:09:07tackle it'll be interesting
01:09:09to wash up I still think
01:09:10he's the best man for the
01:09:11job he's the best man for
01:09:12our big games I'm with you
01:09:13on the bunker I thought
01:09:14they got that one wrong
01:09:15the Liam Martin one they're
01:09:17just gonna let that go
01:09:18when a player wants to dive
01:09:18on the ground let it go
01:09:19the Liam Martin one that's
01:09:20diabolical that's an inside
01:09:22shoulder and if you're gonna
01:09:23say it was enough contact
01:09:24because it was collision with
01:09:25the draw for Liam Martin to
01:09:26lose his feet and hit the
01:09:27ground well then he should
01:09:28be coming off for an HIA
01:09:30you know if you're gonna get
01:09:31wobbly legs from collecting
01:09:32a chin on a lead line then
01:09:33come on follow through with
01:09:34it you know but yeah to me
01:09:36again just calls within the
01:09:3880 minutes that you hope
01:09:39you don't see next week
01:09:40you want to see a free
01:09:41flowing game of footy
01:09:41an entertaining game of
01:09:43footy something that's not
01:09:44stop start you're hoping
01:09:45it'll swing back the other
01:09:47way next week yeah hey
01:09:48don't don't go after our
01:09:50Kiwis after I'll do it
01:09:51yeah we got it we got it
01:09:53let's let's bring the other
01:09:55coach back involved Robbo
01:09:56Chemist Warehouse coaches
01:09:58corner I know you want to
01:09:58point out a couple of things
01:09:59uh Rhys Walsh on fire
01:10:01tonight exceptional I mean
01:10:03between Munster did and and
01:10:06then to Walsh and Harry
01:10:07Grant and yo that's what I
01:10:08see is the spine the 13 and
01:10:10the nine started the night
01:10:11they handed it over to the
01:10:13six seven and one and then
01:10:14the space created here
01:10:16Crichton up in front of the
01:10:17line but then held up
01:10:19Volkman the speed of Walsh
01:10:21Crichton moves out ends up
01:10:24allowing Walsh to go in
01:10:26inside his shoulder and
01:10:28score that try later in the
01:10:30game and then backflip I
01:10:32often lose my boot on a backflip
01:10:34two and then Munster to
01:10:36Grant to Dearden on the
01:10:38other side there for Tommy
01:10:39Trevojevic's try but this
01:10:41the precision of movement
01:10:43and then the vision from
01:10:46Dearden to sit past the long
01:10:48tunnel ball out great hands
01:10:50into the Tom Trevojevic try
01:10:52great play if you could slow
01:10:54down Tommy Dearden's action
01:10:56his movement to throw this
01:10:57ball it is special because
01:10:59you've got players and
01:11:00movement sideways across the
01:11:02field you always need someone
01:11:04just to be able to stiffen
01:11:05that line just to stop them
01:11:07from moving their feet
01:11:07Tommy Dearden's ability to get
01:11:09his right foot his outside
01:11:10leg into the dirt just to get
01:11:11his hips upfield that's what
01:11:13triggers that edge to jam
01:11:14that's what triggers them to
01:11:16be a little bit twitchy and
01:11:18go man we need to go and then
01:11:19he pulls the trigger have a
01:11:21look at it here so these are
01:11:21movement sideways all right
01:11:23Tommy Dearden when he gets
01:11:24that inside shoulder he's only
01:11:26able to do that by getting
01:11:27his hips up the square that's
01:11:28what sits the defence case
01:11:29he's the perfect foil for
01:11:30East Walsh like the perfect foil
01:11:32just plays direct square into the
01:11:34line he knows he can use
01:11:35Martin on that short ball
01:11:36they got Preston on the other
01:11:37side but then Walsh out the
01:11:39back it's just dynamic and you
01:11:41think about defending this
01:11:42bloke all right and what he
01:11:43makes you feel and you can sit
01:11:45there in the video room all
01:11:46week and go yep hey bro I'll
01:11:48push off we've got him stay
01:11:49connected all right but
01:11:50defending it in real time
01:11:51especially if there's a little
01:11:52bit of fatigue in your legs it's
01:11:54so much harder and Rhys Walsh's
01:11:56ability to make you go up or I'm
01:11:59not there it's it's a it's a
01:12:01split second of a difference plus
01:12:0226 runs they've run 26 times
01:12:05tonight so they say to a
01:12:07defensive line I'm coming at you
01:12:09if I'm gonna run you better defend
01:12:11me I'm coming at you and then they
01:12:13decide to short pass pass out the
01:12:15back they're going to constantly
01:12:16create space if a half runs as you
01:12:18guys know if they constantly look
01:12:20and keep their hips downfield they
01:12:22will sit defenders for Walsh and
01:12:24everybody outside them can I just
01:12:25ask you the most important question
01:12:27do you think Rhys Walsh planned
01:12:29that back flip during the week
01:12:30did he go if I score tonight I'm
01:12:32just gonna do it I reckon he was
01:12:33in his room before he came in he's
01:12:35going like that but I will say the
01:12:39one that really stood out to me was
01:12:40Bostock's try in the corner because
01:12:42that's when he knew he had
01:12:43Crichton beat all right like yeah
01:12:45this is the bit this is the hip
01:12:46movements in the room before before
01:12:47he got on the bus but it was the
01:12:49Bostock try in that back corner
01:12:50because we saw the footage just then
01:12:53of him slicing in between Volkman and
01:12:55Crichton here in this corner all right
01:12:57and Crichton he wasn't going to let
01:12:58it happen again he was not going to
01:13:00let that happen again and that's why
01:13:01he bit Walsh's subtlety of pass puts
01:13:04Bostock over in the corner I know
01:13:05you want to talk about with the
01:13:06rain sign before we can hear this
01:13:07beautiful singing around the stadium
01:13:09just just on Rhys Walsh what he did
01:13:13maybe responded to some cricket
01:13:14critics who said maybe he shouldn't
01:13:15have got this like you know it was
01:13:16him and Tedesco and everything next
01:13:18week it's him and Caelan Ponga again
01:13:20and we saw what Caelan Ponga did last
01:13:21last night and what the two of them
01:13:23did a few weeks ago at this
01:13:24stadium well it's going to happen
01:13:25again it's the two most influential
01:13:27players in the in the tournament for
01:13:28mine like Caelan Ponga we've seen him
01:13:30twice and the first time was against
01:13:32Rhys Walsh and that was just
01:13:33salivating and Rhys what every time
01:13:35he's put that kangaroo jersey on go
01:13:36back to the Ashes tour last year he's
01:13:38the best player on the field in all
01:13:39three of those games he's been the
01:13:40best player for this kangaroo side
01:13:42that match up next week is that a
01:13:45shootout for the golden boot is
01:13:47golden boot on the line I think it is
01:13:49I think they're the two best
01:13:50international players we've got at the
01:13:51moment man yeah I'm gonna go home
01:13:53for the week and recharge for that
01:13:55yeah we need you to have a bit of a
01:13:56lie down and we'll see you at some
01:13:58call let's go to Jaleesa apps I'm here
01:14:01with Jack Bostock Jack I could barely
01:14:03drag you away from the fans there how
01:14:04awesome is it to go around yeah it's a
01:14:06pretty cool feeling obviously it's um I
01:14:08was a fan one day I'm too watching
01:14:10Australia play so I know how much it
01:14:11means to give back to the fans so yeah
01:14:12it's pretty cool as um all players from
01:14:14both teams around seeing everyone at the
01:14:16ground because it's just repaying the
01:14:17fans for the awesome atmosphere they made
01:14:19tonight can you cast your mind back to
01:14:21when you were a fan in the crowd who are
01:14:22you watching who are you yelling out
01:14:24for I probably goes back to there used
01:14:26to be a couple tests at Wynn Stadium
01:14:27actually watch Samoan Australia play
01:14:29then also went to the New Zealand and
01:14:31Kiwis sorry Kiwis and Australia game
01:14:33when I was young probably watching the
01:14:34Morris boys and stuff running around
01:14:35Billy Slater a couple of the greats so
01:14:37yeah it's um it's pretty cool moment
01:14:38being here could you ever imagine that
01:14:40this clash would get as big as it is now
01:14:42and the passion that's involved we can
01:14:43see it on the field it's incredible
01:14:45um yeah I feel like I could I'm living in
01:14:47Redcliffe we have obviously a lot of
01:14:48Pacific Islander boys in our team and we
01:14:50um we get a lot of these crowds at um
01:14:51the Dolphins games just because um how
01:14:53passionate they are about the footy and
01:14:54um and they and they show you like
01:14:55tonight it was um it was pretty cool to
01:14:57see all the flags and um how much energy
01:14:59and noise they create in the crowd it's
01:15:00not only cool um probably for the Samoan
01:15:02boys but also for me being on the
01:15:03Australian team like how loud and the
01:15:05atmosphere was yeah it was unreal that
01:15:06passionate intensity is only going to go
01:15:08up next week in the final against New
01:15:10Zealand what's your excitement around
01:15:12that like um yeah just what you said
01:15:13obviously it's going to go up another
01:15:14step Planet Suncorp is going to be a few
01:15:16more fans there and um it's yeah it's
01:15:17going to be a chance for me to um win a
01:15:18world cup and a lot of other boys in
01:15:20our team probably win their first and
01:15:21some that probably won't get a chance
01:15:22to play another one so we're going to
01:15:24be um all doing it for each other and
01:15:25I'm sure so will they so it'll be a
01:15:26great game and just finally would you
01:15:27have ever thought at the start of the
01:15:29year when you started this year that
01:15:30you'd be playing for a world cup uh I
01:15:32don't know I get asked this question a
01:15:33lot I always um feel like I believed in
01:15:35myself but yeah it's um it's been a
01:15:36pretty surreal year to say the least as
01:15:38you should enjoy it next week thank you
01:15:40he's in the Samoan jersey but he loves

01:16:06here we're building up to the rugby
01:16:08league world cup final stay with us
01:16:09the agenda setters rugby league hard
01:16:14hitting no holes barred opinions don't
01:16:17stock tackling everything world cup and
01:16:19everything the nrl off season puts up
01:16:21Monday on 7 may and 7 plus again the
01:16:39Yeah, the agenda set is not to be missed.
01:16:42A huge episode tomorrow at the conclusion of these two semifinals
01:16:45and looking ahead to the Rugby League World Cup on Sunday
01:16:49at Suncorp Stadium.
01:16:51It's time for a news hit with chief sports writer
01:16:54from the Daily Telegraph, Dave Riccio.
01:16:55Dave, always a pleasure.
01:16:57Let's start with what we just saw.
01:16:59Spencer Lenu, he got his marching orders during the match.
01:17:01He certainly did, Mel.
01:17:0239th minute sin bin by referee Adam G for descent.
01:17:06Now, we've spoken about throughout this World Cup campaign
01:17:10how the match review committee have gone light
01:17:14as we have a Samoan heavyweight walk straight past.
01:17:18We've seen, and this is the situation here,
01:17:20as far as Adam G taking umbrage with Spencer Lenu.
01:17:27Clearly, what we don't know is what Spencer's saying here,
01:17:30but Adam G didn't like it.
01:17:33Well, he certainly indicates something there.
01:17:35What's he saying, Paps?
01:17:36Money gesture.
01:17:37Money gesture.
01:17:38Yeah, look, it's a difficult spot because these players
01:17:43are giving it their all.
01:17:43They're putting it all out on the line.
01:17:44This is their one moment to try to achieve something together,
01:17:48and you've got to, I can't help but think he's probably alluding
01:17:52to a point of asking how Adam G is officiating a game
01:17:56where Australian is involved in against Samoa.
01:17:59Now, I don't know what the alternative to that,
01:18:01I don't know what the solution to that is,
01:18:02but if he is giving that gesture,
01:18:04it has to suggest that he doesn't feel like this is fair odds for them.
01:18:09That has to suggest that.
01:18:10Yeah, absolutely, Sean.
01:18:11Absolutely.
01:18:11Now, what I do know is when players in the past,
01:18:15certainly in 2023, Brandon Smith, and so too Rhys Volch,
01:18:20when they've been singing for dissent in the past,
01:18:22they've both received three match suspensions.
01:18:24So it doesn't augur well if you're a Parramatta fan
01:18:28with your brand-new signing, Spencer Lenu heading your way,
01:18:31but we'll see what the Match Review Committee comes up with there.
01:18:35Certainly not good sign.
01:18:36Parramatta fan.
01:18:37Let's look ahead to next week.
01:18:39What's the mail?
01:18:40We'll talk the Kiwis first.
01:18:41We know Ronaldo Militalo.
01:18:43He's back.
01:18:43Yep.
01:18:44Well, this is the call for Stacey Jones,
01:18:46and, Sean, you'll be best to answer this one.
01:18:49And we all know Chance Nicolcloxstar was out on that wing
01:18:52and does a wonderful job every single time he pulls on the jersey.
01:18:54But Ronaldo Militalo missed the match through suspension.
01:18:57Does Ronaldo come straight back in?
01:18:59100%.
01:18:59Straight back in.
01:19:00Now, it's no disrespect to Chance Nicolcloxstar.
01:19:02He does a job, like you just said, every time.
01:19:04He is an ultimate team man,
01:19:06but he knew he had a job to do for one game.
01:19:08Yep.
01:19:08He knew he had a role to fill for one game.
01:19:10He went out and did that.
01:19:11Ronnie comes back in, jeez,
01:19:13even with more energy than what he possesses on a week-to-week basis
01:19:16and adds a boost to that Kiwis side.
01:19:17Is there any other changes that Stacey Jones could make?
01:19:20No.
01:19:21That's it.
01:19:21No.
01:19:21I think you roll with the side that got the job done,
01:19:23much like Aussie will today.
01:19:25Statement games for both teams.
01:19:26It shows you exactly how good these two sides are
01:19:29when they put away Tonga and Samoa in the fashion that they just did.
01:19:31What about the Aussies?
01:19:32They seem quite galvanised.
01:19:33They know they've been criticised heavily and under pressure this tournament.
01:19:37Well, Kevi Walters got his back up about the criticism about his forward pack,
01:19:40and he thought the criticism was over the top.
01:19:43Interestingly, Blake Braley didn't get a start tonight.
01:19:45He came out in the papers and declared that the Australian team are the underdogs.
01:19:50I never thought I'd hear that statement in what that sentence is.
01:19:52Come on, Brails.
01:19:53Okay.
01:19:54So here we go, right?
01:19:55I'm putting it on Sean and Paps.
01:19:57Who starts favourites in this game?
01:19:59Think about the campaign that both squads have had.
01:20:01And for me, I'm with Braley.
01:20:03I think the Kiwis have had the stronger campaign.
01:20:06Paps?
01:20:07You don't want this title, do you?
01:20:08Paps?
01:20:08What do you think?
01:20:09I'll split it down the middle.
01:20:11I think it's going to be one of the...
01:20:12It's going to be decided by a cent.
01:20:14Yeah.
01:20:14A cent, yes.
01:20:15Yeah, it's not going to be...
01:20:16But if we're going back off the first performance,
01:20:18Australia, very, very good, but not their best.
01:20:20Yeah.
01:20:21Kiwis went pretty hard that night.
01:20:22So I'm going, leaning towards the Aussies, obviously, but...
01:20:25Who knows?
01:20:26Boys, these two teams have played each other.
01:20:28Aussie won.
01:20:29Aussie enters this game as favourites.
01:20:30Simple math.
01:20:31Boy math.
01:20:32You know what I mean?
01:20:32Let's run with that.
01:20:33How often do you guys, the players, listen to outside noise,
01:20:36if at all, when you're playing, when you're in a league tournament,
01:20:39whatever?
01:20:41Some people like it, some people don't,
01:20:43but I think you'd be silly to think you can ignore it all.
01:20:46It's in your face.
01:20:46You're on social media.
01:20:47Everyone's on social media unless you delete it.
01:20:49So if that's your strategy for the week, then you go with it,
01:20:51but they'll be having jokes amongst the group.
01:20:53They'll be keeping it lighthearted,
01:20:54and it's trying to channel that energy in the right way,
01:20:57which Samoa didn't do tonight.
01:20:59The talking point all week will be the forward pack battle
01:21:02because we know that's where the Kiwis' strength is.
01:21:04It is so deep.
01:21:06Absolute superstars miss out.
01:21:08They don't get a start in this Kiwi team,
01:21:10and it will be all about this Kiwi pack up against that Australian pack
01:21:14and who dominates the most.
01:21:15I thought the Kangaroos, it was very much a statement game tonight.
01:21:19Kevvy made that late change.
01:21:21Keon starting, Carrigan back to the bench.
01:21:23I thought it worked very well.
01:21:24Yeah, he was impressive.
01:21:25That first stint, like, you're exactly right.
01:21:28They dominated the middle third tonight, all right?
01:21:30They made a statement, and Kiwis would be well aware of it,
01:21:32but you know exactly the Kiwis game.
01:21:34Everyone knows the Kiwi style of footy.
01:21:35You know where they're coming.
01:21:36And off the back of that, right,
01:21:38both teams go with that mindset of laying that platform,
01:21:40trying to win that battle in the middle third.
01:21:42Then the narrative turns to the battle of the fullbacks.
01:21:44Who can capitalise off that rut?
01:21:45Not Caelan Ponga or Reece Walsh.
01:21:47So, yeah, it's going to be an interesting week.
01:21:49There's going to be a lot that are going to be said.
01:21:51I'll probably be messaging my boy Paps here throughout the week.
01:21:53But, look, nonetheless, it's going to be an absolute beautiful,
01:21:58spectacular way to close out what's been an amazing World Cup.
01:22:00Yeah, it has been brilliant.
01:22:00We look forward to that and hearing from you guys next week, Dave.
01:22:04It's been a pleasure.
01:22:05Your contributions throughout this tournament, amazing.
01:22:08And, of course, we're going to catch you on the agenda,
01:22:09so it's a huge show tomorrow.
01:22:11Thank you, Bill.
01:22:12We're off to a break.
01:22:12Don't go anywhere.
01:22:13We've got a little bit more to wrap up on the other side of this break
01:22:16here at Allianz Stadium.
