00:11The company plans to add an invisible watermark called TextGrain to chat GPT and codex text for
00:16EU users over the coming weeks. API developers worldwide can opt into the technology starting
00:21Monday. The TextGrain watermark embeds a detectable signal through statistical word choice patterns,
00:26with API developers able to opt-in while the feature remains off by default.
00:31OpenAI is also accepting applications from vetted researchers and specialist organizations
00:36for access to a detector that can identify the watermark. The company said the system
00:40works better on longer passages and can become less effective when text is edited or rewritten.
00:46OpenAI eventually plans to open-source the watermarking technology.
