00:06saying companies can decide whether to delay the release of products over safety concerns.
00:12The comments came as a senior anthropic executive met Trump administration officials
00:16and after the U.S. president dismissed AI concerns as a hoax.
00:21For more, we're joined now by Matthew Bloxham, senior analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.
00:25Matt, good to talk to you. Plenty of commentary around AI safety in recent days,
00:29but are we actually any closer to understanding what the path forward could look like now for AI?
00:37Yeah, I think the answer to that is kind of a bit of yes and no.
00:40I think, you know, in reality, in the short term, if we see any action at all, it's only going
00:46to come at the company level.
00:48Obviously, we've seen a small kind of coalition of companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI and Elon Musk.
00:54SpaceX kind of come out, you know, suggesting there should be some kind of industry consensus about guardrails.
01:00But then obviously Meta, which is arguably kind of in the chasing pack on frontier models,
01:05and NVIDIA, which got a vested interest in sustaining growth in AI, coming out and saying really it's kind of
01:11a company level responsibility.
01:13You know, obviously on the flip side, we've got a lot of people pushing for government legislation,
01:19both in the US and globally, and China have been taking that stance too.
01:23I think in reality, you know, new legislation takes a long time,
01:27particularly when it's around something so complex and fast-moving as AI.
01:31So I think any chance of kind of clear legislation is a long way off.
01:35So it's really going to be down to individual company responsibility in the short term.
