00:00All governments, including Britain, but others too, need to step up and work more closely with these AI companies on
00:06understanding what they're worried about in terms of the development of unsafe AI, where essentially humans lose control of what
00:13the computers are doing.
00:14So there are two things that I'm calling for. The first is that government should work on a multilateral basis
00:18to sit at the computer with these companies, to understand the risk of unsafe AI, and then to decide what
00:25to do about it.
00:26Clearly, there's going to be competition between lots of countries on the economy and everything else, but on this question
00:30of unsafe AI, I'm sure we can bring everybody together, and Britain should provide leadership in the world on that
00:36issue.
00:36And the other thing I'm calling for is for our parliament here in the UK to set up a new
00:40forum for parliamentarians on a cross-party basis globally, where we can bring people together so that when we get
00:47told it's the end of humanity, or maybe it's just marketing, as legislators, we have some insight and understanding as
00:53to whether it's the former or the latter.
