00:01:56still can't fully comprehend how many people that is uh because I come from like small city uh small

00:02:02city life so it's still pretty um it's just odd feels weird still pretty weird uh that that's you

00:02:10know where we're at but I'm extremely appreciate but if you haven't seen one of these live streams

00:02:15before they're not like my other live streams like I do usually like a monthly live stream

00:02:20or it's just Q&A I'm just here to answer questions to be helpful um and to guide and mentor

00:02:27analysts that's that's all it's for but this is more of a celebration um and so what we're going to

00:02:32doing is one I'll be doing a big giveaway so like I have lots of things to give away everyone

00:04:55goals for getting to this channel like ever and so the fact that I I you know we're we're where

00:05:01are now and we're still growing um and we're still putting out new content and stuff like that it's

00:05:07awesome and I I cannot thank you guys enough I'm very um honored and humbled to be here today uh

00:05:15wanted to throw that in there because people always say humbled and honored um but I'm just really

00:05:19really appreciative of everything you guys have done for me and uh I have a lot more content coming and

00:05:24I'm gonna give you a tiny snapshot uh I'm not doing any cool overlays uh looking at myself I'm not

00:05:30doing any cool overlays with like my screen or anything today uh because that's a lot of work

00:05:33I'm just gonna be chatting but um some of the things that are gonna be coming are we're gonna be

00:05:38doing

00:05:38an AWS and Azure series soon which is gonna be really really cool um for data analysts to learn the

00:05:43cloud and learn how analysts actually work in the cloud which is really important uh because a lot of

00:05:50companies are moving to the cloud almost every big tech company in the world uses the cloud and so

00:05:54it is pretty important to know how to do and so that's kind of like the next series that is

00:05:58gonna

00:05:58be coming in maybe like a month um about four weeks or so uh after that I'll be doing an

00:06:04AI series

00:06:05so different tools that I have found to be really popular and that a lot of people are using their

00:06:10actual workflows that I'm using my actual workflow so we'll do a series on that then I want to have

00:06:15a

00:06:15series on um just like getting a job as a data analyst because especially in this this time uh

00:06:23in this economy in this uh hiring weird place that we're in um it can be tough and so I'm

00:06:30gonna give

00:06:30you kind of tips and tricks that I think are really important and it's gonna be a series so I'll

00:06:35have

00:06:35like three or four videos on um you know the exact way that I would reach out to recruiters and

00:06:41then how

00:06:41to actually dress for your interviews um and I'll my wife and I back in the day I don't I

00:06:46don't know

00:06:47if I ever um I don't know if I ever I didn't put out the video but we had kind

00:06:52of recorded some stuff

00:06:53for like how to dress for an interview um for the women and then the men as well and I

00:06:59ended up not

00:06:59doing that video for some reason I think I just there was a more important series I had to divert

00:07:03to

00:07:03but we will make that um so that'll be a really good series um and then just like you know

00:07:08what you

00:07:09need to do to really make a good impression in the interview and land a job um and so that'll

00:07:14be a

00:07:14a series as well let me go look at my uh real quick just while we're here and I'm gonna

00:07:19be doing the

00:07:20giveaway later uh probably in like maybe 15 minutes or so maybe 20 minutes I don't want to keep you

00:08:28looked at you know on YouTube you get your uh YouTube analytics and at peak I was doing like

00:08:3530,000 subscribers a month which was just absolutely flabbergasting uh absolutely nuts right now I'm

00:08:43sitting at like 20,000 a month I think it's gonna go it's slowly been trending down just ever so

00:08:47slightly

00:08:47each month so I think I think um if I keep a good trajectory if I keep it above like

00:08:5215,000

00:08:52people a month which is still absolutely nuts um I think I could get there early to mid next year

00:08:58I think by this time next year I think I could do it um and so that's my goal that

00:09:03would be my goal

00:09:04I mean that would just be can you guys see that oh yeah yeah you can see it in the

00:09:08shot so I have

00:09:09my silver play button you get that for a hundred thousand um a million is a goal play button uh

00:09:14that's

00:09:14gonna be nuts I'll have some giant giveaway for that um like I might you know what I might I'm

00:09:21put this out there I'm thinking maybe I'll fly somebody out to South Carolina put them up in a

00:09:27hotel and I'll just do like uh a day or two of like just everything you need to do to

00:09:57it's like yeah that might get weird I don't know I'll talk with my wife about that we'll figure

00:10:03something out um but that might be a really cool idea at least or the premise of it um back

00:10:11think I hit 250,000 I was doing a mentorship program I gave away some mentee spots um and I

00:10:17like got on calls with them and that was you know really awesome and I know they it was really

00:10:21valuable

00:10:22and so I kind of just want to like one up that and like make it even better uh so

00:12:07kind of like a small so like how it is is like here's our master bedroom is right there and

00:12:18and we made it into an office so it's like a really small office it's not super exciting um I'm

00:12:22but I

00:12:23will say this was a massive step up from because two years ago we moved into this house a little

00:12:29over

00:12:29two years ago maybe two years and four months or five months but before that back when we were in

00:12:35Texas I was filming every single video in my kitchen um with and like we'd keep my all this equipment

00:12:42in

00:12:42my garage and then every single night or once a week when I would bring out my equipment I'd bring

00:12:47all

00:12:47the equipment I'd set it up I'd record and then I'd edit it and then I'd post it like in

00:12:52within that

00:12:52night and so um yeah oh oh oh uh Aaron Saunders asked about R studio that's a great question I

00:13:01do

00:13:01plan on doing an R series I I've used R in my actual work but I was much more confident

00:13:07in Python so I've

00:13:08done a lot of Python content but I've been getting better um kind of into more of the advanced stuff

00:13:13with R and so now that I'm feeling a lot more confident in R I do plan on doing an

00:13:17R uh course I

00:13:19also might be uh partnering with posit the people who created R studio um they want to uh do some

00:13:26series on uh something like shiny which is where you can create apps and something like quarto where

00:13:32you can create a free portfolio um online that would just be like a really cool portfolio to people

00:13:37for people to create that's something that I personally am excited about so that partnership uh it

00:13:42definitely might happen uh because uh I really like R studio and posit as like a company and so if

00:13:48I can

00:13:48work with them I'm going to try to that could be a really cool um really cool mashup now for

00:13:54the

00:13:54people joining just so you know I'll probably be doing the giveaway in like five ten minutes I'm not

00:13:58trying to hold you guys for the whole like hour we're here really what we're going to do is it's

00:15:50I'm guessing you're talking about my data analyst boot camp the free one the playlist on YouTube um if so

00:15:57if you've done everything and everything includes all the projects creating the portfolio revamping

00:16:04your resume everything um because that that boot camp does a lot more than just teach you the skills

00:16:09and then talk about like interviewing and all this different stuff if so um I would definitely try

00:16:15I would definitely try now here's what happens if you start applying and you're using a recruiter

00:16:21like I recommend in this in in the boot camp you're you're working with a recruiter and you cannot

00:16:25get interviews or recruiters will not work with you that means it's a resume a resume issue if you're

00:16:32applying to just like a million jobs on LinkedIn or any zip recruiter or any other platform and you're

00:16:39not getting jobs that means it's a resume issue if you're so then you really need to buff up your

00:16:44resume whether either with um you know better projects or education or whatever if it's not a

00:16:50resume issue if you're getting interviews but then you're failing your interviews maybe it's the

00:16:54technical portion of it um or it's the behavioral portion or if it's just like general interview

00:17:00questions that you feel like you're not answering and they're like hey you know how do you do data

00:17:03cleaning um well if you aren't answering it it's an interview problem right so then you need to

00:17:08specify you know go into that issue knowing what to conquer so you then work on answering these

00:17:13questions in a mirror and you work on them and you get better at them so I'd say start applying

00:17:18I would say start applying see if you're getting anything try to work with recruiters if you can

00:17:23um and see if you see if you can um

00:17:32uh sorry I was reading someone else's comment but uh Matthew asked have you done any work with fabric

00:17:37yes I have I've been testing it out trying it out I was about to make a full video or

00:17:42full like

00:17:43series on fabric um but I just got I got very derailed on a totally different topic and so

00:17:50um you know I I didn't but I do plan on doing that that is I have it written down

00:17:55I plan on doing

00:17:55that it's just maybe like longer term what monitor size and resolution would you recommend for a data

00:18:01analyst I don't know people work on like 13 inch 12 inches the ones I have are like 15.6

00:18:06inches I like

00:18:07big screens like I like the bigger screen so the laptops I get are are larger um but some people

00:18:13like the smaller ones I I but refresh rate I don't uh resolution rate I just get the any computer

00:18:20will

00:18:20have pretty good resolution rate um let's see uh Alan San Pedro said congratulations on the 750,000

00:18:34likely it'll be like this time next year it'd be like in one year which is still insane uh if

00:19:12you know helping them find uh uh recruiters walking through the process answering any questions they

00:19:18have going out to like uh you know go do something fun in the area who knows um and so

00:19:25like that was

00:19:25like my my big idea off the top of my head but if you have a better idea then please

00:19:56the content that I have is based around data analytics and so if you haven't go check out my

00:20:14aren't in the boot camp that just go into other topics in other areas so completely free stuff

00:20:18so highly recommend um every everyone around the world to be taking those and using those because

00:20:23it's free um it was really funny I had someone uh the other day they were taking a college course

00:20:29I think it was in like Ohio or something and they sent me a screenshot and the screenshot was of

00:20:35uh my lesson like one of my lessons and they said this is part of their course and I was

00:20:40just like I

00:20:40it's just wild to me like and this is nothing against higher education although it kind of is

00:20:46but you know these places they can't create this content fast enough and so they they get it from

00:20:52other places and so I've had a lot of people like probably 20 colleges 30 colleges across at least

00:20:57the United States that I've heard about that people have messaged me saying they use my content for

00:21:02some of their learning and so this is a completely free place to to learn I hope um I hope

00:21:07you can

00:21:08use it and enjoy it and learn from it um we need gen AI course as per market demands can

00:21:16you create a

00:21:16boot camp on machine learning and AI with respective projects and hand-on practice exercises that's a lot

00:21:22that's a lot to ask uh Arjun uh that's a lot to ask here's what I will say uh AI

00:21:27is a huge thing I'm

00:21:28going to be doing a series on AI and how to use it in data analytics that'll be completely free

00:21:33like

00:21:33that's not gonna uh that's not gonna be a problem the problem is is I'm not really a machine learning

00:21:39expert it's not my area of expertise now have I used it or been around it in my real work

00:21:45yes

00:21:45but would I consider myself knowledgeable enough to create content on it no that's why I don't

00:21:50um but I have in the past made videos on my favorite uh machine learning courses because I

00:21:57have taken many courses on it and I really like it and so no I won't make any content on

00:22:03machine

00:22:03learning but implementing AI products in your workflow are things I do all the time and so

00:22:09I will definitely make something on that um let's see let's see congratulations thank you Mike I

00:22:22appreciate it all right let's see this this is from Henry he said hi Alex how do I migrate from

00:22:28a health personnel to becoming a data analyst or data scientist um I health health care related jobs are

00:22:36one of the main ones that I see people transferring into I also see finance uh you know just like

00:22:42like cashier jobs teachers but health care jobs for whatever reason tend to be the biggest ones

00:22:48that I see people transitioning from uh like a nurse or dental hygienist or a doctor or a pharmacist

00:22:56and then they become they want to transfer into the data side of health care um and it makes perfect

00:23:02sense because I used to be on the health care provider side um you know doing like therapeutic

00:23:06services and so when you're doing that stuff you actually do get a pretty good sense of the data and

00:23:10how it works and you're like you can even think about you're like oh I could I could see how

00:23:14that'd

00:23:14be useful using that data well transferring the skill transferring from one position to another

00:23:20position um is just a framework shift and then adding a few tools um when I first started out

00:23:27really the biggest thing that helped me was my health care background and so it's a really big

00:23:31benefit like if you have hands-on experience as any health care professional and you just wrote um

00:23:36health professional so I'm going to say let's say you're a nurse you have so much knowledge so much

00:23:42really valuable useful knowledge in health care um around medications around um dosages around um you

00:23:51know how the icd codes and hicks picks codes and the cpt codes and billing and claims and all this

00:23:58data

00:23:58you have a lot of knowledge around this and so you have to change your resume and add some skills

00:24:05so what that means is on your resume you're not going to say I would do this work as a

00:24:09nurse what

00:24:09you're going to say is is here's how I use the data as a nurse it's just a it's just

00:24:14a just a shift in

00:24:15how you're perceiving it and then also you have to then get the skills to analyze the data so then

00:24:19if

00:24:20you take like you know excel if you learn excel sequel um tableau just those three combined with

00:24:26really strong domain knowledge you can find a lot of jobs at health care companies like the one I used

00:24:31to work at which was Amerisource Bergen we used to hire lots of nurses lots of doctors because we

00:24:36worked in pharmacy specialty solutions where they needed to know the health care industry inside and

00:24:41out um and so that's where I was working for many years and so that's what I would do I

00:24:48would just

00:24:48learn those skills I would change around your resume to be more analyst and data focused for your

00:24:54position and then I would apply to jobs specifically that are health care related pharmaceutical company

00:25:00companies uh pharmacy distribution companies hospitals things like that I've known many people

00:25:06who have done those exact steps and landed jobs uh one mentor I worked with maybe like a year and

00:25:11a

00:25:11half ago got a job as a data analyst he was a pharmacist so he was working in a pharmacy

00:25:15he had a um you

00:25:17know medical degree and all these things he just didn't like it and wanted to switch and so he did

00:25:22and

00:25:22I helped him I helped him do that um keep going asks uh hey Alex can you talk more about

00:25:29cloud

00:25:30AWS Azure etc I've heard a lot about it but I don't know what it is for well you are

00:25:35in for a treat

00:25:35my friend because in about four weeks or so I'm going to be starting my AWS and Azure series on

00:25:41YouTube um and I'm going to be going through like the core concepts of what is cloud computing first

00:25:58the most in Azure and here's what you need to know then we're going into AWS in AWS here are

00:26:03the tools that you need to know as a data analyst how to query data how to connect data sources

00:26:07how

00:26:08to maybe even do some of the ETL processes um so that's coming up and that's going to be a

00:26:13longer

00:26:13series that's going to be like seven or eight videos um which spans like I post one a week something

00:26:18like two and a half months of uh of stuff on it but just to answer your question what is

00:26:22cloud

00:26:22computing it's um think of like on your computer you go to run um python or sql and you're using

00:26:30all the compute on your computer you're using your gpus your cpus your memory um and it's working to

00:26:37process all the data in your database or on your pipe your sql script um or python script so that

00:26:45is

00:26:45what's happening in the cloud but you don't have to use your own compute you're using borrowed compute

00:26:52from a server that's you know they have servers all over the world but I you know like in Azure

00:26:58I'd be

00:26:59using like uh Ohio's server uh for Azure and so I hit off of I run a query in the

00:27:05cloud instead of

00:27:06using my own computer as the compute I'm borrowing or paying for compute off of a server

00:27:10and in essence in a very small way that's kind of what the cloud is the cloud is not having

00:27:18to buy

00:27:18on-prem servers for a company uh and in uh hiring someone to then maintain those servers you are

00:27:25essentially just paying to rent servers paying for server compute space um but besides that there are so

00:27:33many tools that AWS Azure Google Cloud Platform all these different um cloud providers and there's so

00:27:39many niche ones as well that I've used but all these different cloud providers they have all their

00:27:43own solutions for different things like ETL tools within uh let's say Azure is Azure Data Factory and you

00:27:49can automate data pipelines and things like that or you you know there are databases that are hosted in

00:27:55the cloud on Azure AWS and so there's a lot of services as well and so it does a ton

00:28:00of things

00:28:03um oh I skipped a bunch it does this every time I'm sorry I just skipped a bunch of questions

01:14:44um but sports data analysis sports data science is actually really it's a growing field and now a lot

01:14:50of major uh major league teams in the ml mlb nfl uh soccer are implementing their own data teams to

01:14:57collect data analyze data and give feedback to the players so that's going to be a big field even in

01:15:02the even in the future can we expect data engineering content um funnily enough i literally just talked

01:15:08with ben ragogen yesterday on the phone we were just chatting and if you don't know benjamin ragogen

01:15:13he's seattle data guy on youtube go check him out some of the best data engineering content you're going

01:15:19to find really good stuff um it has tons of tutorials and stuff but i was telling ben i was

01:15:24like you know ben i i find myself really loving data engineering i like data analysis like it's my

01:15:29favorite thing but i also love other things like i like creating pipelines and automations and like i

01:15:33really love these things and so i do think i do find myself wanting to create some data engineering

01:15:38stuff in the future maybe even just more like analytics how a data analyst can step up their game and

01:15:44make themselves more useful even into like the data engineering space um i'm i'm almost done

01:15:49creating the full one of my full courses for analyst build on analyst builder called uh foundations of

01:15:55aws and azure for data analysis where we in azure and aws we've used etl tools so you know azure

01:16:03data

01:16:03factory aws glue in both of these um i go through how to create workflows how to create pipelines how

01:16:11to

01:16:11create automations and so that's that touches into some of the data engineering stuff now it doesn't

01:16:16go into creating schemas and models and some of these other things but if you can learn how to

01:16:21create pipelines even with tools like ssis or air flow or some other tools if you can learn how to

01:16:27create pipelines that makes you just it broadens your scope of what you can do and so you can

01:16:34specialize in analytics and do a little bit of engineering you can call yourself an analytics

01:16:38engineer um that's a very popular title that's like really climbing um really getting really popular

01:16:50um tv show recommendations side great question um surprisingly i don't watch as much tv as i used to

01:16:58but when i did watch tv parks and recreation the office um brooklyn 99

01:17:05um the mentalist if you like crime shows like the mentalist he's like a suit he likes to just

01:17:10really observe and he's really smart um monk is an older show but one of my favorite uh detective

01:17:16shows of all time um there's so many i could name but those are some of some ones that i

01:17:50analyst project at work well luckily i've been very fortunate uh i didn't have to do that because i

01:17:58had something called a project manager or a product manager depending on the organization um and i guess

01:18:04kind of what their exact thing is we used to have a project manager so for many years the project

01:18:10manager would organize kind of our work and we'd come back and we'd say oh i got to do this

01:18:15they'd

01:18:15organize it on our workflow and they would do that now before i had to do that when i was

01:18:20at

01:18:20a smaller company didn't have a project manager it was just me and my boss um i mostly just wrote

01:18:25it

01:18:26down on sticky notes uh i that that was just my process and now today um i mostly track everything

01:18:34in excel i don't use any fancy like tool or app or anything although i maybe i should but i

01:18:41just use

01:18:41excel it works for me and i i'm used to it and i get it done really fast um you

01:18:47visit the country from

01:18:48which you have the most subscribers um well most of my subscribers are in america so i'm already in

01:18:53america and that's kind of lame so i don't want to go i you know but i have a lot

01:18:56of subscribers in

01:18:57africa a lot of subscribers in europe um and in canada those are probably my my biggest areas and then

01:19:04have like a bunch in like the philippines and some other other locations and it's just awesome i get

01:19:08messages it is one of my favorite things is i get messages almost every single day from people around

01:19:13the world like everywhere they're like oh i'm in thailand i'm in the philippines i'm in london i'm

01:19:19in um amsterdam i'm in this location and it's just wild you know and and it's just the the reach
