00:42:02that's a fun little graphic tell us about this so so here's the thing there is no team championship
00:42:09in indycar so this year i thought i was just going to for a bit of fun try and make
00:42:12one
00:42:12obviously some teams have three cars some teams have two cars so if you just do it on the basis
00:42:18of who scores the most points it's not necessarily fair especially when you get to the 500 and some
00:42:22teams have four cars so i did it on the basis of the best two results per team per race
00:42:26and that's
00:42:27what the championship looks like coming here into the final rounds well i also had my own twist on
00:42:35the championship there's no oval championship officially in indycar but we decided that
00:42:41david malucas so worthy of being declared at least the fox indycar oval champion this year average
00:42:48finish of what 3.6 i believe excellent job from malucas on all the round tracks this year
00:42:54including indianapolis second place there second at milwaukee it's been a tough year without his
00:43:01first win but he showed such tremendous grit and excellence on the oval tracks it was nice to see
00:43:07him break a smile with the champions belt we talked earlier i mean highest running penske driver in the
00:43:12points i don't think many people would have predicted that coming in to 2026 there were a lot of people
00:43:17questioning whether or not this driver was even ready for the step up to the penske squad and here
00:43:21he is leading them home not only in the race today oh sorry mclaughlin's ahead but in the
00:43:26championship at the end of the day astonishing thing with malucas winning the oval championship
00:43:31this year his teammate joseph newgarden's got two wins on his paddle award took two wins on ovals last
00:43:37week yeah that restart indy 500 crash for newgarden really killed the average finish but but you look at
00:43:44that consider and again he's not won a race but he's just been so relentlessly there and he will
00:43:49he will all you got to do is just keep showing up and doing what malucas has done all year
00:43:53long it's
00:43:53going to come and it could happen today since just 8.2 seconds back of his teammate malucas last
00:44:00pit on lap 18 mclaughlin was on 20 so they're arguably in the same strategy window and malucas has an
00:44:06average
00:44:07finish at 7.9 second four times this year he's been getting the podiums had a couple polls so he's
00:44:13he's been performing at a high level just been robbed of those those wins as we see a big slide
00:44:19coming off at turn 11. we're getting back into that pit window and malucas wants to go as far as
00:44:29he can
00:44:29on the hard compound tires because he has not satisfied the soft compound requirement he has
00:44:36to run one new set so he's going to try to shorten up that soft stand as best he can
00:44:41as we see alex
00:44:42below and chip ganassi racing early indications james are that they've played this thing wrong but
00:44:49i don't want to declare that especially after what happened to us with marcus erickson up in canada
00:44:57if you are with us for uh canada uh called that one completely wrong didn't understand what the
00:45:02strategy was doing called them out for it won the race um so yeah uh down again as townsend mentioned
00:45:08you really want to get to lap 45 maybe even a couple of more to stay in play for a
00:45:13three stopper christian
00:45:14lungard is trying to make his softs last but he says i'm starting to lose the right rear
00:45:18they're trying to get him to about 42 or mo uh you can get home from there but it's going
00:45:24to take
00:45:24some fuel save the rest of the way tire save plus fuel save it makes for a really hard afternoon
00:45:30for
00:45:31the driver there's just so many things you're trying to balance and manage to see kyle moyer there
00:45:35very experienced strategist on the seventh stand has worked for team petzky
00:45:42has worked for andretti and you hear that they're going to finish on the reds
00:45:50i don't know if will that be a sticker set i'm not sure they had two because he didn't get

00:45:55the fast six that's right but he's already satisfied his requirement i don't know if you
00:46:01want to finish on those bends on how many laps you have left they'll be magic for about 10 laps

00:46:42two drivers ahead of him started on the soft they managed to make those tires last 20 laps before
00:46:48their stop rossi started on the heart made his tires last 25 so theoretically the two ahead of him
00:46:54could be out there for five laps longer than he is on the soft if he can make these last
00:46:58as long as
00:46:58the guys ahead and i've seen enough evidence james to suggest that the rears are really hanging on for
00:47:04him his setup to your point working extremely well on used reds yeah 15 laps on that set for rossi
00:47:12so far
00:47:13but remember guys in that first thing we did have a couple laps of yellow as well so making it

00:47:17doesn't mean you had 20 laps on your tires of heart racing where we've been green since so rossi really
00:47:23putting in the miles on this set but kirkwood for sure is going to have to extend this one as

00:47:49means you have to rely more on the mechanical grip of the tire you wear the tire more you ask

00:49:07second wing adjustment we've seen of the 10 going down on the front wing that tells me that alex is
00:49:12feeling his car is super loose the front is overpowering the rear he's not liking that balance
00:49:18you take a bit of front wing out it helps numb the front a little bit and gets that balance

00:49:22place he's now onto the hardest but remember he hasn't run that sticker set of soft tires yet so

00:50:15little evidence that anybody wants to deal with the soft tire with the pit stops that have already

00:50:30talking about rear tires completely gone he's hanging on until his window opens
00:50:39and again running in the dirty air of two cars not going to make that any easier for graham
