00:41:44And he goes for 39 yards.
00:41:46Yeah, now this is what happens when you're a team that runs to the ball the way the Jaguars run.
00:41:50You're susceptible to misdirection plays like reverses.
00:41:53They receive over-pursuit one way, fails to set an edge coming back,
00:41:58and that becomes an explosive play.
00:42:00Should not give up 30-plus yard gains on reverses.
00:42:02First to 10, Carolina in Jacksonville territory at the 39-yard line.
00:42:07H.M. in the back with Kenny Pickett.
00:42:12Mitchell Evans, the tight end, comes in motion.
00:42:16Pickett takes the waist-high, delivers touchdowns and throws,
00:42:18and it's off the fingertips of Tremaine, the receiver.
00:42:22Braswell was right there in coverage.
00:42:24Yeah, really nice coverage by Braswell.
00:42:26Snug on his hip pocket, playing on it up your shoulder.
00:42:29And he understands when you lean in, going inside, he plays through the receiver's hands.
00:42:35Nice PBU for the young man.
00:42:39It's our second down and 10.
00:42:41Devon Marshall in the corner on the other side now.
00:42:51And here's the handoff, and room right up the middle, and A-Chan makes him pay.
00:42:56He gains almost 10.
00:42:57He'll be very near the first down marker.
00:43:00Yeah, no, we definitely don't like to see this from the Jaguars' front.
00:43:03The Panthers find increases on these off-tackle runs.
00:43:07Here's simple zone play.
00:43:08Doubling up combo buckets.
00:43:10You ever see a couple missed tackles?
00:43:12You're going to do a virtual measurement, which we have not seen yet in the preseason.
00:43:18If you don't know what that is, they don't bring the chains out anymore.
00:43:21The officials spot the football.
00:43:24Then there are six cameras that will take a look at where this is and decide if it's a first
00:43:34down or not.
00:43:37So we'll see in just a moment what this is.
00:43:40There is a chip in the ball.
00:43:41I want to be clear because I think people think that they use the virtual measurement to place the ball.
00:43:48The officials still place the ball.
00:43:51Yeah, look, it's a different time.
00:43:53We're so used to seeing.
00:43:54Let's see what it looks like.
00:43:56And here you go.
00:43:58The virtual measurement says it's 11 inches short.
00:44:04I like that.
00:44:06How about specific, right?
00:44:08We used to say, hey, look.
00:44:09Yeah.
00:44:09It's about a ham sandwich.
00:44:10Yeah, ham sandwich.
00:44:11A couple links.
00:44:12After the measurement, the runner is short of the line of game.
00:44:15Third down.
00:44:1711 inches short.
00:44:20So it's third down for Carolina.
00:44:30Anthony Campanile has a young defensive line out there.
00:44:33And the nose is Jalen Hunt.
00:44:35An undrafted rookie from Cincinnati.
00:44:38A big body.
00:44:40There in the shotgun.
00:44:42And Kenny Pickett got a turn and throw.
00:44:44And he misses his intended target.
00:44:45He was looking for Evans, the tight end.
00:44:47And he just overthrew him.
00:44:51So they wouldn't be surprised to see him go right back forward.
00:44:53Talk about 11 inches.
00:44:54Yeah.
00:44:54On third down, fourth and one.
00:44:56Look for him to go again.
00:45:03Just moving late.
00:45:118-0-2 to play in the first half.
00:45:13Carolina looking to add to their 7-3 lead.
00:45:16Here's fourth down and 11 inches.
00:45:21Here's Achan.
00:45:22And he should have the first down as he pushes his way.
00:45:26Inside the 29-yard line.
00:45:28He got it.
00:45:29Yassir Abdullah was there to try to stand him up.
00:45:32But he didn't need much.
00:45:33And he got it.
00:45:35Yeah.
00:45:36Just a good play.
00:45:37Nice tackle.
00:45:38But now, the thing that you nitpick if you're a defensive coach.
00:45:41Can you get a little knock back?
00:45:43Can you knock him back instead of allowing him to fall for a few yards?
00:45:46Good to see Jalen Husky in there as well.
00:45:50He's in a battle for a roster spot.
00:45:52Caleb Rand saw those two safeties.
00:45:57First and ten.
00:45:58The ninth play of this drive.
00:46:05Looking to play action.
00:46:06Steps and turns.
00:46:07Throws.
00:46:08He's looking down the field for Tremaine.
00:46:10And the ball was overthrown.
00:46:14A lot of contact.
00:46:15A lot of contact.
00:46:17Jabbar Muhammad pushed the corner there.
00:46:19Running step for step with him.
00:46:21Yeah, I was worried.
00:46:22There were so many flags early in the game.
00:46:24I surely thought another flag was going to come out.
00:46:30Yeah, the ball wasn't even close.
00:46:35You might have been able to call a flag there.
00:46:37Yeah.
00:46:39But you see that the official couldn't see.
00:46:42Yeah.
00:46:43Second down.
00:46:44Call near the 28-yard line of Jacksonville.
00:46:48David Moore, the receiver in motion.
00:46:52And picket turns and throws.
00:46:54And this one is caught.
00:46:55And David Moore is put on the ground pretty quickly.
00:46:58Give him the 26-yard line to bring up third down.
00:47:01After that two-yard gain, make it third and seven.
00:47:04Yeah, Devon Marshall did a really good job being sticky in coverage.
00:47:07Guy makes a nice little quick-out reception.
00:47:09But the tackle is there.
00:47:11You're talking about eliminating Yak yards after catch.
00:47:14That is critical to being able to be a really effective defense in the back end.
00:47:19Our score bug this quarter brought to you by FIS.
00:47:22Unlocking financial technology.
00:47:24Bringing the world's money into harmony.
00:47:29Third down.
00:47:31Almost eight.
00:47:32Picket.
00:47:33Under pressure.
00:47:34Turns and delivers a pass.
00:47:35And it is caught.
00:47:37But this one is likely to be holding against Carolina.
00:47:40I mean, they had their arms wrapped all around Brian Thomas Jr.
00:47:46Holding.
00:47:47Offense number 70.
00:47:48Ten-yard penalty.
00:47:50Third down.
00:47:53Yeah, it's not surprising.
00:47:55Brian Thomas Jr. does have some juice and some energy as a pass rusher.
00:47:59And you see this coming up.
00:48:01At the top of the screen.
00:48:02Got a little stunt inside.
00:48:04The guard overreacts.
00:48:05Has to grab him.
00:48:06If not, that's a free run to the quarterback.
00:48:09Good play by him.
00:48:10But nice movement.
00:48:11Nice coordination of the stunt of Brian Thomas.
00:48:14Brady Christensen's penalty.
00:48:16Wipes out a 14-yard gain.
00:48:18And moves the ball back to the 36-yard line.
00:48:21Such third down and 18 for Carolina.
00:48:23Clock running here in the second quarter.
00:48:27Empty backfield.
00:48:28And Pickett looks to his right.
00:48:31Throws it.
00:48:31It's caught.
00:48:32That's Tatavian Sanders.
00:48:33The tight end.
00:48:34And he's down near the 31-yard line.
00:48:38Yeah, that's a good job.
00:48:40Third and long situation.
00:48:42Soft zone.
00:48:44Force.
00:48:44Kenny Pickett is set up for a check down.
00:48:46And then as soon as the ball is released, everyone rally and tackle.
00:48:49Get off the field.
00:48:49Jelani Tavi, the middle linebacker who was with that Patriots team that played in the Super Bowl last year,
00:48:54made the stop.
00:48:55And he's had a really nice couple of weeks since he joined the Jaguars.
00:48:59They're really happy with his play.
00:49:02So here's a 48-yard field goal attempt by Ryan Fitzgerald.
00:49:08And the snap is down.
00:49:09The placement, the kick up on the way.
00:49:11And he drills it.
00:49:1210-3.
00:49:15Panthers lead.
00:49:16And we're back after this from your local stadium.
00:49:19It's been 30 years since they unleashed that big fur ball and the chaos that he brings into the stadium.
00:49:24Happy birthday, Jackson DeVille.
00:49:27It's been a fun ride for three decades.
00:49:30Best mascot in the National Football League.
00:49:3510-3.
00:49:38Panthers lead the Jaguars.
00:49:40Chandler Braeboy back deep with Michael Wortham.
00:49:43And Wortham fields it on the bounce at the 10.
00:49:4515-20.
00:49:46Trying to come back to the middle of the field.
00:49:48Crosses the 22, the 23.
00:49:50Out near the 24-yard line.
00:49:52First and 10 now for the Jaguars on offense.
00:50:01Young Carter Bradley, whom we talked a little bit about.
00:50:07Big arm.
00:50:08Had a nice touchdown throw that both Grant Udinski and head coach Liam Cohen
00:50:15made sure to point out in our production news.
00:50:18Amira Dula, the halfback here on first and 10.
00:50:22Tim Jones in motion.
00:50:25Play action.
00:50:25Pressure coming.
00:50:26Sets up the screen.
00:50:27And Quentin Morris has got it with a little bit of room to run.
00:50:30And he's down near the 30-yard line for a pickup of six.
00:50:33And it's time for our ViStar player interview.
00:50:36Do good.
00:50:37Bank better.
00:50:38Brent Martineau has Brian Thomas Jr.
00:50:41Brent.
00:50:41Nice catch by Quentin Morris there.
00:50:43Brian Thomas Jr.
00:50:44Noticed that.
00:50:45How's training camp going for you and this offense overall so far?
00:50:49I feel like training camp has been going pretty good for the whole offense and for myself personally.
00:50:54I think so.
00:50:55I feel like we've been growing each and every day.
00:50:57Our chemistry is just coming together.
00:50:59We're getting better each and every day and just steady pushing to be the best that we can be.
00:51:02So much work goes into the offseason.
00:51:04How much went into that for you?
00:51:06What did you work on going into year three?
00:51:09Just coming in with a different mindset.
00:51:11Just trying to be undeniable.
00:51:12And really just coming in and just working on my body.
00:51:15Staying healthy is the biggest thing for me.
00:51:17I feel like when I'm healthy I can go out there and do big things.
00:51:20So, yeah, that was probably the biggest thing for me.
00:51:21Just getting healthy and trying to stay healthy.
00:51:23Being consistent in my routine.
00:51:25You played through several injuries last year.
00:51:27What does it feel like to be healthy?
00:51:29Do you feel like yourself again?
00:51:31Yeah, for sure.
00:51:31Definitely feel more like myself.
00:51:33Just being able to go out there and just do things that I know I can do.
00:51:37And just be the player that I know I can be.
00:51:38So, I mean, it feels great always being able to go out there and do the things you know you
00:51:41can do.
00:51:41So much conversation about how intentional you and Trevor have been at working on that chemistry on the field.
00:51:47Where have you seen that pay off?
00:51:49I mean, even the joints.
00:51:52A lot during practice.
00:51:53Just like little things like that.
00:51:55Communicating with each other.
00:51:56Seeing and telling each other what we see out there.
00:51:58And how we feel about certain things.
00:51:59I feel like it's been helping us out a lot.
00:52:01And I feel like it will continue to help us out a lot.
00:52:03I think you've talked to us about the details and going into this year and just on routes or anything
00:52:08else.
00:52:09Have you seen that pay off as well here in camp on just some simple practice plays or in these
00:52:15joint practices?
00:52:16Yeah, for sure.
00:52:17I mean, doing all the little details.
00:52:19I mean, just helping us as an offense, helping us just get open and be where we're supposed to be,
00:52:24when we're supposed to be there.
00:52:25And just being on time with Trevor.
00:52:27And like I said, it's been helping us out a lot with our chemistry for sure.
00:52:30So, we just want to keep building on that and just keep coming out here, pushing each and every day
00:52:34and getting better.
00:52:36Well, we don't like the sign of that right there.
00:52:38But one more question.
00:52:40These fans are excited about what your offense can do.
00:52:42What you guys did at the back end of last year.
00:52:44Give us a sense internally, in the building, how excited you are for what you guys can do with the
00:52:49weapons, with the backs, with Trevor.
00:52:51And with continuity in the coaching staff.
00:52:53We're super excited.
00:52:54That's why we just want to come out here each and every day and just build.
00:52:57Just see how far we can take things.
00:52:59See how far we can go with this.
00:53:00Just see how good we can meet.
00:53:02We come out here each and every day just to push, be the best that we can be, and see
00:53:06how far that'll take us.
00:53:08We feel like we'll have a great season, as long as we keep working and keep building our chemistry.
00:53:14I mean, we just really want to see how far it'll take us.
00:53:17Guys, the most dangerous player on this Jaguars offense, Brian Thomas Jr., ready for a big year three.
00:53:23And we're ready for him to have a big year.
00:53:26That was not a big play by Carter Bradley.
00:53:30You can see as he rolled out to the sideline, throwing back across the middle is a no-no.
00:53:35He knows better.
00:53:37You can't roll out to the right and throw back late across the middle.
00:53:40It always leads to bad things.
00:53:41Shaw Smith-Wade picked it off and gives the ball to the Panthers at the Jags' 26-yard line.
00:53:47A.J. Dillon is the running back.
00:53:49The big former Green Bay Packer powers his way forward for a gain of about four.
00:54:01Brian Thomas Jr.
00:54:04Brian with a Y.
00:54:05The defensive, Brian Thomas.
00:54:07Not the guy we just talked to.
00:54:09Yeah.
00:54:10Made the stop.
00:54:10What are the odds that you've got two Brian Thomas Jr.'s on the same roster?
00:54:14I mean, the entire name is the same.
00:54:18The entire.
00:54:18Except for that Y and the I thing.
00:54:20The receiver spells it right.
00:54:22By my count.
00:54:24Pickett.
00:54:25Pump.
00:54:25Now turns and throws.
00:54:26And he's got a receiver.
00:54:27And that's a first-hand goal as he finds Jimmy Horn Jr. at the seven-yard line.
00:54:34Yeah, really good job by the Panthers.
00:54:37Faked a little screen.
00:54:39Pumped it.
00:54:40Hit a little slot fade.
00:54:41Down the boundary.
00:54:43A good tackle by Jamar Muhammad being there, but it's a explosive play for the Panthers.
00:54:4815 yards.
00:54:49There have been a lot of those.
00:54:5011, 15, 17.
00:54:5322-yard plays for Carolina here in this first half.
00:54:56And the score is 10-3.
00:55:01One back.
00:55:02And here's the handoff.
00:55:04And it's Dillon.
00:55:05And look at him.
00:55:05He's charging his way to the end zone.
00:55:07And he's in for a green bag.
00:55:10Carolina touchdown.
00:55:12I want to say green bag because he used to do that at Lambeau Field forever.
00:55:15Now he's a Carolina Panther.
00:55:17Yeah, big physical running back here.
00:55:19Coming right downhill.
00:55:20But once again, we've talked about it.
00:55:21We've got to do a better job of using our hands at the point of attack and getting off blocks.
00:55:25Then you've got to find a way to stop the momentum of a big old back that runs behind his
00:55:30pass.
00:55:33He had some good years with the Packers.
00:55:35And the Panthers hope that he has some good years left in him.
00:55:3916-3.
00:55:40The extra point from Fitzgerald to make it 17-3.
00:55:44Just over two minutes left to play in the first half here.
00:55:49And it's good.
00:55:50The Jaguars find themselves in a deficit.
00:55:53We're back to Jacksonville after this.
00:55:55So the Jaguars Television Network presented by UFL.
00:56:00We always tell quarterbacks, you want to be careful throwing late over the middle.
00:56:05Here we're going to see Carter Bradley roll to his right and try and throw back across the middle of
00:56:10the field.
00:56:10Whenever you see that, bad things don't happen.
00:56:13Here we see him break contained.
00:56:14He's flooded.
00:56:15Trammell trying to go away.
00:56:17He could help him coming back.
00:56:18But this is a bad decision.
00:56:20We're talking about being smart and not trying to do too much.
00:56:23Throw it out of bounds.
00:56:24Eat and live to play another day.
00:56:25And that decision was set up by a bad mistake on third down and a yard when Sam Mustapher, the
00:56:31center, had a false start.
00:56:32So the Jags find themselves in third and sixth.
00:56:35They have to throw.
00:56:35And that's what you get if they just convert.
00:56:39They're probably still on offense.
00:56:40Chandler Brayboy's got this one at the five-yard line.
00:56:44We're going to cross the 20 and the 30 with a head of steam to the 35 and out near
00:56:47the 37-yard line.
00:56:49Nice return.
00:56:50Ready to give yourself to take it beyond the 35.
00:56:53Excellent field position for the Jaguars.
00:56:55Two minutes to play here in the first half.
00:56:58This is the two-minute warning.
00:57:03We're back to Everbank Stadium for the final two minutes of the first half.
00:57:06After this on the Jaguars Television Network, presented by UFL.
00:57:12Well, the score isn't pretty in Jacksonville, but, man, downtown Jacksonville is on display.
00:57:20Beautiful night here.
00:57:22And coming up on the Wolves and Children's Halftime Report, we'll update you on our Everbank player to watch, Branson
00:57:27Combs.
00:57:28We'll have Jamar Muhammad, Mike Duff, or your local news.
00:57:31And, of course, stats and highlights.
00:57:34Best starting field position for the Jaguars tonight.
00:57:36They're 37 after that Chandler Brayboy kickoff return.
00:57:40Carter Bradley slings it to the sideline.
00:57:42Amir Abdullah does it.
00:57:43Bricks a tackle.
00:57:44Crosses the 45-yard line.
00:57:48And he is out of bounds with a gain of eight.
00:57:52Yeah, so here we have Anthony Campanile not really pleased with the defense.
00:57:56The defense hasn't played to the standard.
00:57:57He is on them.
00:57:58You can expect to see a more fired-up effort and maybe a better overall effort from this group when
00:58:04we get back.
00:58:04Here's third and short, which has been a rarity in the first half tonight.
00:58:08Bradley under center has a tight end.
00:58:11And three receivers.
00:58:13Takes the waist-high delivery.
00:58:14Steps up into the pocket to avoid the pressure.
00:58:16Now he's running backwards.
00:58:17Breaks the tackle and now throws it in the direction of nobody.
00:58:22Trammell, Tim Jones, Amir Abdullah were close enough that it's not a penalty.
00:58:27And he was outside the pocket and running.
00:58:29Yeah, right now some leaks in the pocket.
00:58:32Good move.
00:58:33Now he can stand a little permanent.
00:58:34He has to be careful when he's leaving the pocket, taking care of the ball.
00:58:37Did a good job making a smart decision, throwing it out of bounds.
00:58:41Carter Bradley has to make sure he takes care of the ball.
00:58:43Jaguars 1-5 on third down.
00:58:45This is third down and two.
00:58:46Bradley and Abdullah in the shotgun.
00:58:48Back to throw.
00:58:49Bradley turns and throws.
00:58:50And the field is wide open at the 15 on the run.
00:58:52He's at the 40 and finally pulled out of bounds near the 37-yard line of Carolina.
00:58:571-38 and counting after that 18-yard completion.
00:59:02Now, Brian, this is one of the things that we've seen from Amir Abdullah throughout camp.
00:59:06One of the reasons why he's going to be a hard decision when it comes to cut down day.
00:59:11Catch the ball well out the back.
00:59:12Makes plays.
00:59:13Bradley looks right.
00:59:14Plants turns.
00:59:14comes back underneath.
00:59:15And Abdullah's got it.
00:59:16Makes an end.
00:59:16He's breaks the tackle on the run inside the 30.
00:59:19And down near the 26-yard line on the 12-yard pickup, Zakeem Wheatley makes the stop.
00:59:24Yeah, just a trusty play.
00:59:26A handy play by the veteran.
00:59:28Nice check down.
00:59:29Catches it.
00:59:29Gets up the field.
00:59:31Moves the sticks with a nice play.
00:59:33A minute left to play here in the first half.
00:59:37And Bradley, with time in the pocket, slings it underneath.
00:59:39And it's bobbled and dropped by Austin Trammell at the 20-yard line.
00:59:44Yeah, that's rare, man.
00:59:46Austin Trammell has great hands.
00:59:48It's uncommon to see him drop one.
00:59:50This is a nice pass.
00:59:51Little smash right.
00:59:52He's right there in the option right.
00:59:54He's sitting right there.
00:59:55Just let's get into his body.
00:59:56And he's had a really good camp.
00:59:58Yeah.
01:00:01So it's second to 10 at the 26-yard line.
01:00:0456 seconds to play.
01:00:05First half.
01:00:06Jags in the 17-3 hole.
01:00:10They have all three timeouts should they choose to use them.
01:00:18Bradley's got D.J. Dallas out there.
01:00:21Steps, turns, and throws.
01:00:22He's looking in the direction of Trammell.
01:00:23And Trammell makes the catch but couldn't pull it in as he goes out of bounds.
01:00:27This is it for Trammell.
01:00:29Isaiah Simmons.
01:00:31How about that?
01:00:32Former first-round pick of the Cardinals out of Clemson.
01:00:35Yeah, Isaiah Simmons in the game.
01:00:36This is good coverage.
01:00:38Just couldn't bring it all the way in.
01:00:40Simmons did a really good job of playing the pocket, putting his hands inside of Trammell's hands
01:00:44to prevent the veteran receiver from pulling it all the way in.
01:00:47And if he had pulled it all the way in, he still would have been out of bounds.
01:00:50So, it's third down and 10.
01:01:00From the 26-yard line.
01:01:05Bradley has it.
01:01:07Looking right.
01:01:08Now turns and throws this one for the end zone.
01:01:10He's going for Trammell again.
01:01:13Incomplete.
01:01:13There is a flag down inside the 20-yard line.
01:01:16He's going for Trammell.
01:01:17Prior to the pass.
01:01:19In the contact.
01:01:20Defense.
01:01:20Number 43.
01:01:21Five-yard penalty with an automatic first down.
01:01:24Devonta Smith, the cornerback on that side.
01:01:27So, the Jax get a break.
01:01:30And get four more downs with 44 seconds to play in the half.
01:01:34Yeah, and this is what's tough for a lot of young players.
01:01:37Understanding the difference in rules.
01:01:39Look, you got five yards.
01:01:40They're not really forgiving, but that gray center puts his hand on Trammell.
01:01:44Automatic first down on illegal contact.
