00:00:58to take his first points of the season.

00:01:02Ugo Ugochuku would get himself a five-second penalty

00:01:06for leaving the track and gaining the advantage.

00:01:09That would drop him out the points,

00:01:11leaving Freddy Slater to go level on points

00:01:14after he finished 10th, however, his Campos teammate.

00:01:17Teofil Niall would take his second win of the season.

00:01:20A first podium for Canato, Lee for ART,

00:01:22and Ernesto Rivera continuing his good form.

00:01:25Back-to-back podiums, leaving him third place overall.

00:01:29We now have the top two in the championship.

00:01:31Tied on 104 points.

00:01:34Third place in the championship remains Teofil Niall,

00:01:38but he's closed the gap down to just 29 points

00:01:41to the top two in the championship.

00:01:43With Ernesto Rivera moving into fourth place

00:01:46in the championship, ahead of Noah Stromstedt.

00:01:48Starting on pole for the very first time is Tuka Tappanen

00:01:52looking to give MP their first podium of the season.

00:01:55Welcome, everyone, to your feature race.

00:01:57This is where we award four points in F3.

00:02:00My name, Chris McCarthy.

00:02:01Piers Pryor alongside me.

00:02:03Piers, Freddy there.

00:02:04We'll be looking to get his first win

00:02:06and move into the championship lead

00:02:08going into the summer break.

00:02:09Yep, Slater's got a real opportunity today

00:02:11to put himself in the championship lead

00:02:13and potentially even put himself in a pretty commanding lead,

00:02:16which looked unlikely, didn't it, going into the weekend

00:02:18with the form of Ugachuku, as we've seen so far.

00:02:23But Ugachuku yesterday, uncharacteristically,

00:02:27not having the pace later on in the race.

00:02:29We've seen so many times that Campos cars

00:02:31have had good late race pace.

00:02:32Niall and Ernesto Rivera showed that.

00:02:34But Ugachuku was racy at the beginning

00:02:36and then fell away at the end.

00:02:37Actually did some quite good tactical driving,

00:02:41a bit of gamesmanship when he was towards the end of the race.

00:02:43Ended up backing Slater into the drivers behind

00:02:46and lost Slater a couple of positions, legally so.

00:02:49It was a penalty for something that happened on lap one.

00:02:51But the start of the race for all of our drivers

00:02:54is going to be crucial for a good result.

00:02:56Yeah, it was going around the outside of Tapanen

00:02:58at turn three on the first lap,

00:03:00which is why he got the penalty.

00:03:02OK, your full starting grid.

00:03:04Hiyu Yamakoshi is eighth in the championship,

00:03:06but all the way at the back of the field.

00:03:08Matteo Di Paolo, difficult season for him so far.

00:03:11He's going to be 29th.

00:03:12Salim Hanna makes his second appearance

00:03:14in Formula 3 on row 14 with Pedro Claro

00:03:17next along the road in driver.

00:03:39It's been a few races for him

00:03:41since the points finish now.

00:03:44with Louis Sharp who moved up to P12

00:03:46in the sprint race.

00:03:47Taito Cato is on row 9.

00:03:49Seven points finishes for him this season

00:03:51and a first for Fernando Barrichello

00:03:53with ninth place yesterday.

00:03:54His teammate Yevon David went well as well.

00:03:57He's going to be on row 8.

00:03:59James Wharton, who moved up to eighth place yesterday.

00:04:01Next along then, Christian Ho in 14th place.

00:04:05Didn't have the best of sprint races.

00:04:06We'll be looking to change that today.

00:04:08Alessandro Giusti next to him.

00:04:10Then it's Jin Nakamura who takes

00:04:11a three-place grid drop for that incident

00:04:13you saw at the start going down

00:04:15to Hamilton Corner.

00:04:16Canato Lee next.

00:04:17His teammate, Maciej Guadish,

00:04:19who didn't make it past turn two last time.

00:04:21We'll be hoping for a better race.

00:04:29Ugo Ugachuku, your championship leader

00:04:31by default of the fact he has more wins

00:04:34than Freddy Slater.

00:04:35He's on row three with Brando Badouer.

00:04:37Nicola LaCorte, a PB for him in qualifying.

00:04:40A PB result in the sprint race yesterday

00:04:42with a seventh place.

00:04:44Atiyah Kulnagi now has three fourth place finishes

00:04:58and taking the Aramco pole position,

00:05:00the Orange MP and Ferrari Junior to get up on it.

00:05:04Away from the line we go.

00:05:06Track temperature not riding that high yet,

00:05:09so that'll be easier for these drivers

00:05:10to get the Pirelli medium tyres

00:05:12towards the end of this race.

00:05:13We're looking at 23 degrees air temp,

00:05:1525 degrees track temp.

00:05:17That'll gently rise throughout this feature length race,

00:05:20which is set to be 24 laps long.

00:05:23We saw drama at the start yesterday, didn't we, Chris?

00:05:25It was a mistake from Jin Nakamura

00:05:27that took Gerard Shee

00:05:28and also Maciej Gwadish out of the race.

00:05:31And it's a concertina...

00:05:33Well, it's a circuit where it's hard to overtake

00:05:35and everyone knows that once the race gets settled in.

00:05:38So the end start is all the more important.

00:05:40Both the launch off the line,

00:05:42the long run downhill towards turn one,

00:05:44and then also for the moves towards turn two and three

00:05:47as everyone strings into single file.

00:05:49It was history for Tuka Tapanen,

00:05:52the first finished driver to take pole

00:05:54in FIA F3 and the first in 13 years.

00:05:57Let's see what he had to say after qualifying.

00:06:01Yeah, it's not going to be easy.

00:06:02In the morning, it's a bit cooler

00:06:04and I just need to make sure on sector two,

00:06:07I have to manage the tyres a lot

00:06:09and then push at the end of the lap

00:06:10to create the gap before T1

00:06:11because T1 is the main overtaking opportunity.

00:06:16Leo Forniroli, who took victory at this circuit last year

00:06:20in the feature race,

00:06:21on his way to winning the Formula 2 Tide 2X Formula 3 champion as well.

00:06:26Good to see him giving out the Aramco Pole Position Awards.

00:06:30There's your points, Piz.

00:06:31Tied at the top, Ugachuku and Slater.

00:06:34Slater starts second, Ugachuku starts P6.

00:06:38He'll be one to watch at the start.

00:06:39Yeah, absolutely Slater's going to be going for this.

00:06:41He'll want to try and get to the front of the field

00:06:43and control the race from there.

00:06:45I think Slater will see the MP of Tuka Tapanen

00:06:49as a potential threat in terms of he stays in front.

00:06:52He might not have the pace to hold everyone else off.

00:06:54I think Slater would rather control the field from the front,

00:06:56keep his tyres in the window that he wants to.

00:07:00Some fresh air with that front wing as well.

00:07:01But it's no coincidence that you've got three Kampos

00:07:05inside the top four positions in the championship at this stage.

00:07:08And I think that Teofil Nile is going to be strong in this.

00:07:11Ugachuku as well.

00:07:12He will have learned from yesterday.

00:07:14He pushed hard early on and then suffered late in the race.

00:07:16I think Kampos will be looking at that.

00:07:18So wouldn't be surprised if we see a classic Kampos approach to this race,

00:07:21which is take it easy for the first half of the race

00:07:24and then push on towards the end.

00:07:26Five more laps today, 24 in total.

00:07:28They've got to do those medium tyres on.

00:07:30But quite cooler track temperatures out there this morning as well.

00:07:33Will that make a difference?

00:07:34Yeah, that will help the drivers a little bit

00:07:36in terms of the tyre management.

00:07:37Generally, you get thermal degradation with these Pirelli tyres,

00:07:40which means that if you push them too hard, they overheat,

00:07:43which is more damaging actually than the tread wear wearing away.

00:07:48So those cooler track temperatures will help just a little bit.

00:07:50But we'll see, I reckon, a similar sort of level of drop-off

00:07:54throughout the day, throughout the race in this one.

00:07:57All set and ready to go.

00:07:59The last few drivers just getting in position

00:08:01and then it will be all eyes on Tuukka Tapanen.

00:08:04Can he become the first finish winner

00:08:07since Niko Kari in 2017 at this level

00:08:10and the first in Formula 3?

00:08:12Likewise, though, Freddie Slater wants to take his first win in Formula 3

00:08:16and put himself into the championship lead with a gap over Ugo Ugochuky.

00:08:22Green flag at the back of the field.

00:08:24Let's go racing here at the Hungar.

00:08:26And to the left of screen is Freddie Slater.

00:08:28To the right is Tuukka Tapanen.

00:08:30And we are go for the beach race here at Round 7.

00:08:33And a good launch from Tapanen gets over there

00:08:35to defend from Slater as they charge down towards Turn 1

00:08:39for the first time.

00:08:40Slater looking to the outside.

00:08:42Tapanen getting his elbows out.

00:08:44Then it's the Red Bull Junior of Kulnagi.

00:08:46They're next along in P3 as they come out of the first corner.

00:08:50And now the race begins down towards Hamilton.

00:08:52It's Badawer in the white and black road in next.

00:08:55Then we have Nicola Lecote in that blue dams.

00:08:57And it looks like a clean start overall.

00:09:00Kulnagi almost into the back of Slater.

00:09:02And now Badawer is going to go around the outside

00:09:04and down the inside into Turn 3.

00:09:06Great driving from the Italian.

00:09:07A pretty even start down towards Turn 1

00:09:09for our top few drivers.

00:09:10But it was Badawer that was looking racy

00:09:12and excellent around the outside.

00:09:13And now Kulnagi under pressure from Lecote.

00:09:15The side-by-side Campos drivers.

00:09:18Ugochuky's got around the outside.

00:09:19He's going around the outside of three drivers.

00:09:21Championship leader making moves.

00:09:22Wow, what a move there.

00:09:24Now one of the ARTs, I think, went bouncing off

00:09:26as Kulnagi is side-by-side with Badawer.

00:09:29Ugochuky will look to take advantage of this on the exit.

00:09:32And there he goes on the grass.

00:09:33Ugochuky around the outside.

00:09:35He's side-by-side with his teammate once again

00:09:37who's getting his elbows out.

00:09:38Ugochuky fighting for this on the opening lap.

00:09:41Almost wheel-to-wheel contact as we come through Turn 10

00:09:44into Turn 11.

00:09:46And now, and that's going to be Ugochuky down the inside

00:09:48as they head down towards Schumacher Corner.

00:09:50And Slater trying to get down the inside of Tapenet.

00:09:52Front-wing damage for Slater.

00:09:54Couldn't find a gap on the inside.

00:09:57Tapenet going to the inside to defend.

00:09:59And Slater was up the grass.

00:10:00And now Kulnagi trying to get down the inside of him there.

00:10:03But Slater just about hanging on to second.

00:10:06Wow.

00:10:06Wow, we know.

00:10:07Oh, big crash at the back.

00:10:08And that's La Corte, I think.

00:10:10Yeah, one of the ARTs is off as well.

00:10:12So we've had an incident between two drivers.

00:10:14I think that might be Gerard G who's off.

00:10:17He had Kanato Lee and Maciej Gwadish right behind him.

00:10:20And it's Gwadish once again who has had an incident on the opening lap.

00:10:24It's almost like a history repeating itself.

00:10:26Gerard G and Maciej Gwadish out.

00:10:29And it looks like Jin Nakamura hasn't come through on the first lap as well.

00:10:33So the three drivers caught up in incidents yesterday seem to have found each other again today.

00:10:37And there we go.

00:10:38That is the number 11 of Gwadish into the side of Gerard G who went clattering into the barriers.

00:10:45And we wait for the safety car to come out now as you can see one of the AIX cars

00:10:49are there just going all the way to the outside.

00:10:53Gwadish reporting he's okay as we ride on board with Ugo Ugachuku.

00:10:57Well, all the drivers will know.

00:10:59They will have said it on the team radio to the drivers that safety car pending.

00:11:02But we race until we see the safety car boards.

00:11:05Ugachuku still hustling the back of Brando Baddowair.

00:11:08It was the first half of the first lap was actually uncharacteristically calm.

00:11:12It was the second half of the lap where everything started kicking off.

00:11:14We saw side by side the Campos drivers and they go side by side once again to the Buda and

00:11:19Tess Chiquette.

00:11:20Le Corte next along and then it is Red Bull Junior and Esther Rivera the other Campos.

00:11:26And I imagine very shortly safety car will come out.

00:11:29There it is.

00:11:29So Tapinen in the lead and the safety car boards are now out.

00:11:33And we have a chance to catch our breath on what's been a chaotic first two laps.

00:11:38And one that sadly ended straight away for Gwadish and Xi.

00:11:41And Jin Nakamura dropped all the way to the back.

00:11:43So I don't know what happened to him.

00:11:46But the three drivers out on the first lap yesterday are the three drivers out again today, Fizz.

00:11:52Such unfortunate luck for Gerard.

00:11:55She as well is a driver that goes so well here.

00:11:57Qualified into the top ten last year and this year.

00:11:59And you can see Gwadish and Xi discussing things.

00:12:02Looks like a fairly good discussion.

00:12:05This is Tapinen coming in to...

00:12:06Ah, they're going to send him through pit lane, I assume.

00:12:09There's a big gap opened up though between...

00:12:13I imagine that's the case.

00:12:16Oh, hang on.

00:12:17And he's coming in to pit lane.

00:12:19Well, let's find out what's going on here then.

00:12:22So Tapinen into the pits.

00:12:24Oh, with the contact with Slater.

00:12:26Yeah.

00:12:26So I think all the cars are being sent through pit lane.

00:12:28But Tapinen has picked up a puncture.

00:12:30And now he's got to try and find a space.

00:12:32Go.

00:12:33Tapinen makes his way back out.

00:12:35And has just caught a gap there behind Nihal.

00:12:38So Slater now takes the lead of the race.

00:12:41Tapinen, due to the fact that they had contact going down to turn 12, wasn't it?

00:12:47Where Slater was trying to get on the inside.

00:12:48He picked up a right rear puncture.

00:12:50And MP quick thinking there to just get that change straight away.

00:12:53And he's not lost a huge amount as a result of that.

00:12:56So there we can see though.

00:12:58This might be a bit of a clear up here.

00:13:00But I don't know if this will lead to more than a safety car.

00:13:03Because we can see this is going to take quite a while to clear this one up.

00:13:06Yeah, we've got quite a lot to unpack from the first lap.

00:13:08Let's have a look back at what happened.

00:13:09It was quite an even start from what I remember from pretty much everyone.

00:13:12And so the top six positions.

00:13:13They ended up going liner stern in a single file train down towards turn 1.

00:13:17It was only the two Campos of Ugachuku and Tevill Nihal that was sideways down towards turn 1, really.

00:13:22Slater tried around the outside, but it was unsuccessful.

00:13:24Keep an eye on the Campos white cars further back.

00:13:27Everyone else sort of sixth downwards fanning out.

00:13:29And then we headed towards turn 2, where it's up on the scene of drama on the first lap 4.

00:13:33Why we were further towards the back with De Palo and that's it.

00:13:38And Finn McLaughlin.

00:13:39And then this is down towards turn 4.

00:13:40We head through.

00:13:42Bold move around the outside of Tevill Nihal.

00:13:44Contact between our Campos teammates.

00:13:45And then this is where Ugachuku went all the way on the outside.

00:13:49What is playing for me?

00:13:52I don't know, Tevill Nihal did come from behind on the entry of turn form.

00:13:57Then somehow a good move up the inside of the driving centre chicane then gave Nihal an opportunity to go

00:14:01in up the inside.

00:14:02As Ugachuku got shuffled wide by Brando Baduair.

00:14:05They went side by side once again.

00:14:07Did they make more contact?

00:14:08Yes, they did.

00:14:09That's the second piece of contact between teammates.

00:14:12And then up ahead, you had Slater aggressive on the back of Taffanen.

00:14:15Ugachuku did end up holding that position.

00:14:16Look ahead now.

00:14:17You'll see a piece of carbon fly up off Slater's car.

00:14:20Just there.

00:14:20Let's have a look on board with Slater as we headed towards turn 11.

00:14:24Newly renamed a Lacey.

00:14:25Backed up on the entry to get a good exit.

00:14:27And it worked because the exit was really strong for Slater.

00:14:30Went for a gap.

00:14:31I think Slater was driving into a gap that was closing there.

00:14:34I would say that's a racing incident.

00:14:36The front wing end plate from Slater's car, though, did depart.

00:14:39You can see there getting on the kerb, Chris.

00:14:41It's not exactly going to help Slater, but we've seen over the last year or so

00:14:45those front wing end plates aren't critical in terms of overall performance.

00:14:48It has been noted.

00:14:50And due to the fact it did lead to a puncture for Taffanen,

00:14:52I wonder if that will be deemed different for that.

00:14:54Right, let's look for GRG.

00:14:56Blue Dam's car has run wide.

00:14:58Three into one doesn't go.

00:14:59Is that Jin Nakamura in the middle?

00:15:01I think it is.

00:15:02And the three drivers who collided yesterday just picked a different corner to do it this time.

00:15:06Yeah, from that offboard, from that heli shot or drone shot,

00:15:09it looked like it was just an unfortunate sequence of events there.

00:15:12It was also through the straight mode board on the exit of the last corner.

00:15:16But, yeah, it looked like one of those where Gerard Shee was trying to go around the outside,

00:15:20went wide, got on the dirty part of the circuit,

00:15:22and we've seen so much dust and debris off of the racing line.

00:15:25Had no grip, tried to come back towards the racing line.

00:15:27He didn't realise that Jin Nakamura was side-by-side with Mache Gwadish and therefore came back to where he

00:15:33thought there was space for two cars,

00:15:35but there was three, including himself, and therefore side-by-side contact and into the barriers they went.

00:15:40Oh, there we go.

00:15:42Safety car out, and it's going to take a while, this, isn't it?

00:15:47So, safety car is out for the time being.

00:15:50Just good that the drivers involved are all OK out the car,

00:15:53but they're just trying to get Gerard Shee's out.

00:15:56They wedged themselves into that barrier on the exit of Turn 13.

00:16:02So, you can see the winners and losers to your left as well.

00:16:05It was a typical first lap on F3, wasn't it?

00:16:17So, that's been discussion on the pit wall about the two Campos drivers who are both fighting for the title,

00:16:25but it was, let's get our elbows out then, at the start,

00:16:28but I think Campos were very nervous watching that first lap.

00:16:32I was nervous watching that first lap, and I've got nothing to do with Campos.

00:16:35Exactly.

00:16:35But isn't it interesting how these drivers dissociate with people that they're in the truck with day in, day out,

00:16:42week in, week out, as their teammates, often quite good friends as well,

00:16:45but as soon as they're in the race, it's this guy dive-bombing me,

00:16:48even though it's Teofield Nile, his teammate that's been with him much of the season.

00:16:52Now, that Tappan and Slater has gone from noted to being under investigation,

00:16:57so now the nervous wait comes for Trident and for the Audi junior.

00:17:05Is this going to be a penalty is the question.

00:17:08Was there a gap on the inside for him to drive into?

00:17:10He found himself off on the grass, then made contact with Tappan,

00:17:14and that's later him getting a puncture dropping into six.

00:17:16I think MP will be arguing, look, there was never a space on the inside.

00:17:21I'm pretty naughty from Tappan, pleasing me in the street.

00:17:25I'm all up for hard racing, but pleasing me onto the grass oftentimes is a big question of all.

00:17:32So that's his argument, that Tappan just came across on him aggressively.

00:17:38Yeah, that's the argument for both sides, to be honest,

00:17:41which leads me to think it potentially will go down as a racing incident,

00:17:43hard racing on the first lap.

00:17:45Let's run on board with our championship leader.

00:17:47We know that we've seen side-by-side action.

00:17:49Let's see how it all unfolded.

00:17:50In the toe, see the dust being kicked up.

00:17:53Ugachuku stayed on the inside towards turn one,

00:17:55choosing the low-risk approach.

00:17:57Teofil Nal got less to lose.

00:17:59Needs to close the gap to Ugachuku in the championship by beating him on circuit,

00:18:02so it goes around the outside, which gives him the inside for turn two.

00:18:06Now, you can go around the inside and outside here.

00:18:08Then Ugachuku decides to roll around the outside,

00:18:10try and get his way past Nicola LaCorte,

00:18:13but finding a handful of oversteer.

00:18:16Then we head up towards turn four.

00:18:17That oversteer now gives Teofil Nal a run on the right-hand side.

00:18:21You can't see him yet, but you'll see him appear in a second,

00:18:23just on the right-hand side, about there.

00:18:25You can see the front winger, Teofil Nal,

00:18:28then around the outside.

00:18:28This was an incredible move from Ugachuku.

00:18:30Nearly got it done on two cars, both LaCorte and Colnaghi.

00:18:35Also looking around the outside of Badawaer but gets out of shape on the curve.

00:18:39Colnaghi sends it on the inside of Badawaer.

00:18:41Then Ugachuku having been blocked, crazy first lap,

00:18:45but we head back towards the front of the field.

00:18:47It looks like we're going to go racing once again.

00:18:49Great work by the Marshall team to get that one cleared up in just a few laps,

00:18:54and now we are getting ready to go racing.

00:18:55Freddie Slater is under investigation,

00:18:57but he is leading the way in this one on track.

00:19:01Colnaghi in second, Badawaer in third,

00:19:03and then we have the two Campos teammates of Ugachuku and Nile.

00:19:07Lovely pictures as they charge towards the final corner

00:19:10and now out onto the start-finish straight.

00:19:12We are back green once again.

00:19:13We'll have to do one lap before the three DRS zones become enabled

00:19:17as Slater will be scanning the mirrors

00:19:20to see where that Red Bull junior of Mateo Colnaghi is.

00:19:23Then it's Badawaer and Ugachuku,

00:19:25who looked up for it on the opening lap.

00:19:27He'll be wanting to get nearer to his championship rival,

00:19:30Freddie Slater.

00:19:31The yellow flag is out immediately,

00:19:33so there's been some events happening down at the first corner.

00:19:37Oh, LeCorte going for a big dive bomb on Tapanen.

00:19:41He sees him, just gives him the space on the inside

00:19:44and holds on to P6.

00:19:46And Salim Hanna, sadly, has come to a stop.

00:19:49So I think, oh, that's just coming up to the penultimate corner, isn't it?

00:19:53Salim Hanna has just come to a stop,

00:19:55so I wonder if he's had a technical issue there, Salim,

00:19:59or if something happened once we got going again.

00:20:03This could be another safety car very quickly

00:20:06because if that car of Salim Hanna doesn't get moving,

00:20:09then the safety car will be back out straight away in this one, Piers.

00:20:13Yeah, we've got Tuka Tapanen here.

00:20:15He's got a mismatched set of tyres,

00:20:16so he's got three warm tyres and one cooler tyre,

00:20:18and only that safety car not allowing it to get to full working temperature yet,

00:20:22which is why he's under pressure.

00:20:23Virtual safety car has been called for what we assume is Salim Hanna's stricken car,

00:20:28the 26th there at the AX, into the final sector.

00:20:31It looks like some sort of technical issue by the looks of it.

00:20:34It doesn't look like any damage that we can see, obviously, from that car.

00:20:37But Slater, once again, going to have to control the field.
