00:00МУЗЫКАЛЬНАЯ ЗАСТАВКА
00:41It would be Noel Leon who took a historic poll for the Mexican fans
00:46at the Red Bull Ring, leading the Campos Racing team away from the front row.
00:51Immediate drama took out the likes of Sebastian Montoya
00:54and Rafael Villagomez, with Joshua Dirksen coming to blows with them.
00:59There would be a furious battle out front with the likes of Alex Dunn,
01:04fighting away with Nikola Solov,
01:05who would get into the eventual lead of the race.
01:09Behind, we had problems from Mary Boyer,
01:11pulling out with technical issues,
01:13but Nikola Solov, as a Red Bull Junior,
01:16would go on to take a third feature race win this season.
01:20And now sits just two points behind Gabriele Mini,
01:24who was second in the feature race,
01:27with third place going the way of Olli Goethe,
01:29taking his first poll in Formula 2
01:31and a first for the German fans in five years.
01:36This, the challenge for them this weekend,
01:38we go from one of the shortest tracks to one of the longest,
01:41the home of British motorsport, Silverstone,
01:44and a 21-lap sprint race coming up,
01:4629 laps of feature race.
01:48We haven't had full dry racing conditions here since 2021.
01:53Will that be the case this weekend?
01:55They've got two DRS homes,
01:57but it is now nice and sunny out there
02:00as we kick off the weekend,
02:02as ever, with practice.
02:04Here to call you through the action, as always.
02:05Myself, Chris McCarthy, alongside Alex Brundle.
02:09Sunny but brisk, Mr McCarthy.
02:12There is a chill in the air, 27 degrees on track,
02:16only 17 degrees in terms of air temperature.
02:21And you discuss the number of wet races we've had here,
02:24British weather, not a surprise,
02:26but it does look like we're going to get a full dry weekend
02:29this weekend for the Formula 2 drivers,
02:31which will be very welcome indeed.
02:33Temperatures and conditions supposed to stay like this
02:36for the full weekend,
02:37which means they'll really get to enjoy
02:39what is one of the great high-speed challenges
02:42of the Formula 2 season.
02:45Of course, the great corners of Coffs, Abbey.
02:49We have names, not numbers, around Silverstone,
02:52and it's a great opportunity for them.
02:54It really is.
02:55And the furious fight in the Drivers' Championship continues.
02:59Gabrieli Mini just two points ahead of Nikola Solov.
03:02Then it is the chasing pack,
03:04with Rafa Kamara ahead of Alex Dunn,
03:06Noel Leon looking to keep within arm's length
03:09in fifth place as well.
03:11But this driver here, Alex,
03:12has been driving like a Championship leader all season,
03:16haven't he?
03:16Multiple podiums.
03:17He's up to now seven in six rounds this season.
03:22Let's talk, let's hear rather,
03:24from our Championship leader, Gabrieli Mini,
03:26and what he had to say about that Championship fight
03:28coming into this weekend.
03:32I still think we need to find a bit more pace,
03:35everyone together.
03:36We have seen in the past weekends
03:38both me and Nikola and Rafa and Alex
03:41are all four together up there pretty consistently.
03:45But once again,
03:45I think we still need to find a bit more pace.
03:48We've been the one staying out of trouble the most.
03:52In the last nine races,
03:53I got seven podiums, one P4,
03:57and one out of the points,
03:59the only one that I did.
04:00So we've been really consistent
04:02and that's what brings up at the top of the Championship.
04:05But realistically,
04:07if we want to try and keep it,
04:08we have to find still a bit more speed.
04:11You summed it up perfectly there, Alex.
04:13He's got a worst result of 11th.
04:17Seven podiums in six rounds.
04:19Only the one win,
04:20which I think he was probably referring to there.
04:22He'll want to add to those more.
04:23But we've seen in the past,
04:25you don't have to win a lot of races
04:27to win the Formula 2 Championship.
04:28It is just all about that consistency.
04:31Certainly helps though, doesn't it?
04:32If you can take the full 25 points away.
04:35And that's what Nikola Solov has done
04:36in full, in feature race, guys,
04:40three times this year.
04:42And in the sprint race in Miami.
04:45And that's why he's homing in
04:46on the lead of the Championship.
04:48So you've got Gabriele Mini
04:48with that traditionalist approach.
04:50Of course, returning to the Championship
04:52with trying to just clock up those points.
04:56But he's being attacked through this phase
04:57by Nikola Solov,
04:58who's been incredibly quick
05:00and winning races at a canter.
05:02What of this man?
05:03Rafa Kamara also finds himself
05:05in the Championship Hunt.
05:0682 points for him
05:07in third position in this series.
05:09A little bit away
05:10from what is a very tight battle
05:12at the front, 106.
05:13The Solov 108 for Mini.
05:16But he's definitely still in it, Chris.
05:18Absolutely that.
05:18You think three-quarter
05:19of Nikola Solov points
05:21have come from those three races alone.
05:24Rafa Kamara's had great pace
05:26throughout all of the season.
05:28Two pole positions.
05:29He only wants to take
05:29more than one pole.
05:31And then we have Alex Dunn as well,
05:32who seems to be now
05:34on a real run of consistent form.
05:36That was the thing
05:37that maybe got away
05:38from him last season,
05:40but now seems to be showing
05:42quite a lot of consistency.
05:44We'll talk more about him
05:45after we hear from the man himself
05:47and his excitement about racing
05:48at Silverstone this weekend.
05:53I'm excited.
05:54I love coming to this place.
05:56It's definitely one
05:56of my favorite tracks.
05:57I think the atmosphere
05:58and the whole weekend
05:59is always very, very enjoyable.
06:02And I think, you know,
06:03most drivers like this track.
06:04You know, the feeling
06:04through Maggots and Beckett's
06:06with how high speed it is
06:07is definitely a very,
06:08very enjoyable one
06:09for me as a driver.
06:10So I'm excited.
06:12No doubt there'll be
06:13a lot of support
06:15for the Irish driver
06:16coming into this weekend.
06:18Alex, but he talked
06:19about those corners,
06:20the ones that really stand out
06:23on the calendar.
06:24Talk us through
06:24the challenges of this circuit.
06:27Incredibly high speed,
06:28incredibly physical as well.
06:30In a Formula 2 car,
06:32Silverstone,
06:33you're always putting
06:34a big load
06:35through the steering wheel
06:36and it's big G load as well
06:38to be carrying through
06:39the high speed corners.
06:40Compound jump here
06:41as it's been over
06:42the last couple of years.
06:43They've got the soft compound
06:44and the hard compound
06:46jumping over the medium
06:47in the middle.
06:48That makes it a strategically
06:50interesting race
06:51in dry conditions.
06:52Obviously, he had a very
06:54rain interrupted weekend
06:56in 2025.
06:572024, it was an eight lap
06:59switch over between
07:00the soft and the hard
07:01which ran for the other
07:0321 laps in the feature race.
07:05Isaac Hadjar winning that one
07:07from pole position.
07:09But for the drivers,
07:11it's going to be all about
07:12acing it in qualifying
07:14and making the step jump
07:16of grip that they've got
07:18on the soft compound tyre
07:19that's going to give them
07:21all of that speed
07:22in those high speed corners.
07:25Shall we take a lap
07:26of the home of British motorsport
07:27with Gabriele Mini
07:28through the final corner?
07:30He goes and down
07:32the Hamilton straight then
07:33in this early phase
07:34of free practice,
07:35getting out of it
07:37as Formula 2 drivers
07:38have to through
07:39the middle of Abbey
07:40as he makes his way
07:41down towards the first
07:42braking point of the lap
07:43in Village.
07:44You've got to make sure
07:44you clear the brakes
07:45and roll through
07:46the mid corner
07:48before getting back
07:49across the road
07:50to get traction
07:51through the exit
07:52and then off
07:53onto the Wellington straight.
07:55Should be absolutely flat
07:56if you use
07:57all of the racetrack.
07:58Drivers will be focusing
07:59forwards on thinking
08:00about Brooklyn
08:01on the right-hand side
08:03of the road.
08:03It's a long trail break
08:04because the apex
08:06comes up very late
08:08as you drive straight
08:09into Luffield.
08:11Bit of an oversteer moment
08:12for Gabriele Mini.
08:13Doesn't cost you too much time
08:14as long as you get
08:15the traction
08:15through the exit
08:16out of Luffield
08:18and through Woodcutt
08:19down towards
08:20the famous Turn 9.
08:21Copse corner
08:21flat in Formula 1.
08:22In Formula 2
08:23it feels like this.
08:26A little bit wide
08:28for Mini.
08:28Got to make sure
08:29you don't get too wide
08:29on the exit
08:30which he does.
08:32Maggots will be a blend
08:33out of the throttle
08:34where you must take
08:35that inside curve
08:36if you can get there
08:38and then you make your way
08:39down into Beckett
08:40where the exit is important
08:41but you've got to make sure
08:42you don't wash too wide
08:44with understeer.
08:45Looking like a very green track
08:46at the moment
08:47for Gabriele Mini.
08:48Not a lot of grip
08:49out there
08:49as he makes his way
08:50with the DRS open
08:52down the hangar straight.
08:53It's a curved entry
08:55into Stowe
08:56where the apex
08:56comes up later
08:57than you think
08:58because the track
08:59juts out towards you
09:00on the exit.
09:01Straight a braking
09:02as you can
09:03as you make your way
09:04down into Vail.
09:06Must nail
09:06the inside kerb
09:07because the traction zone
09:08of club
09:09is a requirement
09:10to get right
09:11if you're going to
09:12take that speed
09:12across the line
09:13and set a nice lap.
09:14P2 at the moment
09:15for Gabriele Mini.
09:16Early stages there, Chris.
09:18And you can see
09:19how little development
09:20there is out on track.
09:21Lovely stuff.
09:22Thank you, Alex Brundle.
09:23Gabriele Mini
09:24full lap of on board
09:25with him there.
09:27Second place
09:27and as you said
09:28the track still warming up
09:30as are the temperatures
09:31around the circuit.
09:32Joshua Dirksen
09:33up to P3.
09:35We want to give himself
09:36a good qualifying result
09:38once again this weekend.
09:39He was out in the top 10
09:40for the first time
09:41at the Red Bull ring
09:43which led to a bit of
09:44a difficult weekend
09:45for him.
09:46Let's ride on board
09:47with Alex Dunn.
09:48Very excited
09:49about this one.
09:51Could he get his
09:51first win of the season
09:53this weekend?
09:54Yeah.
09:55It would be a great
09:57moment for him
09:58and indeed
09:58that road in team.
10:01Alex Dunn
10:02sitting on 80 points
10:03in the championship.
10:03Very close to
10:05Rafa Kamara
10:05challenging for
10:06third position
10:07carrying of course
10:09the livery
10:10of the Alpine
10:11Junior Academy.
10:13Make his way down then
10:15in towards the veil.
10:16They're getting on with it
10:16relatively quickly here, Chris.
10:18Drivers wanting to
10:19home in.
10:20It's easy to forget
10:21as a British driver
10:22or a driver who spends
10:24a lot of time
10:24at Silverstone
10:25how much of a challenge
10:26this place is
10:27to come and
10:28get your head around
10:30if you don't spend
10:31as much time here
10:32as we do.
10:33Yeah, man.
10:33For Fittipaldi
10:35that will be
10:35particularly a challenge.
10:36He's going to be
10:36the only driver out there
10:37making his debut.
10:39It's been several years
10:40since the likes of
10:41Nico Verone
10:42raced here
10:43in the
10:44GB3 championship
10:45as it's now known as
10:46and Colton Hurta
10:47raced here last
10:49in the Euroformula Open
10:51I believe back in 2016.
10:53So for them
10:54there's quite a lot
10:55to learn
10:55within the space
10:56of just 45 minutes.
10:58There really is.
11:00It's a lot of
11:01high-speed apexes
11:02and the problem
11:03with those
11:03is they then
11:04lean
11:06onto
11:07long straights
11:08after them
11:08so you can't
11:09then carry
11:10if you don't
11:11carry that speed
11:12through the middle
11:12of the corner
11:13you then lose out
11:14for the whole
11:15of the next straight.
11:16with a nice lap
11:18early on
11:19since 14th
11:20in the championship
11:20it was a decent
11:21feature race result
11:22for him Chris
11:22wasn't it?
11:23Back in Austria
11:24taking 5th.
11:25It was.
11:25He had a really
11:26positive start
11:27to the season
11:28then things
11:28started to fall away
11:29had that big crash
11:30at Canada
11:31forcing him to withdraw
11:32from the weekend
11:33but back to the form
11:34we saw
11:35from him
11:36at the first round
11:37won here
11:38in F3
11:38last year
11:39it was his first
11:40win in Formula 3
11:41so there's a place
11:42he has happy memories.
11:44Let's hear
11:44from Colton Herter
11:45and what he had
11:46to say
11:46about his season
11:48going forward
11:49coming into the weekend
11:52I think there are
11:54some clear trends
11:55of what the car likes
11:56and what the car needs
11:58which are quite isolated
12:00I think in the world
12:01of racing
12:01so you know
12:03it's a very specific
12:04driving style
12:05very specific way
12:06of driving
12:07that's still getting used to
12:08but for me
12:10it's just about
12:10making steps
12:11every weekend
12:12eventually I want to be
12:13you know
12:14competitive
12:15and be at the front
12:15and win
12:16that's why we're doing this
12:17but at the moment
12:19taking those small steps
12:20is kind of
12:21what's most important.
12:25Colton Herter
12:26what have you made
12:27of his performances
12:29so far
12:30it's a tough challenge
12:32for him
12:32isn't it
12:32this season
12:33a lot to learn
12:34in comparison
12:35to what he had
12:36in IndyCar
12:38so a big jump
12:40sort of a big jump
12:41for him
12:42in terms of the tyres
12:43the car
12:43lots for him
12:45to learn
12:45in a short space of time.
12:46I mean he's got
12:47so much experience
12:47Colton Herter
12:48that he there
12:49in that interview
12:50has isolated
12:51exactly the difficulty
12:53of his particular scenario
12:54which is
12:55there are things
12:56that these cars
12:57require of the driver
12:59as we see
13:00last week's Pulse
13:01it's a no-leon
13:02come across the line
13:03on what looks like
13:04a relatively decent lap
13:05but there are things
13:06that these cars
13:07require of the driver
13:08that other racing cars
13:10do not
13:11and that is
13:11to do a lot
13:13with the surface
13:14temperature management
13:15of the tyre
13:16is to do with
13:17how the races
13:18are specifically run
13:19and it is to prepare
13:20drivers for the next
13:21stage in Formula 1
13:22and what you're
13:25effectively asking
13:26Colton to do
13:28is come in as
13:29a extremely competent
13:31rugby player
13:32in rugby league
13:33and win a championship
13:34in rugby union
13:35right
13:36it's a similar sport
13:38and it looks
13:39so similar
13:40to sort of
13:41the outsider's perspective
13:43but actually
13:44it's such
13:45a different racing car
13:46such a different
13:47racing experience
13:48from what is going on
13:50in IndyCar
13:51not to make
13:52any kind of positive
13:53or negative
13:54comparison
13:56between
13:57those two things
13:58but it's just
14:00an entirely different
14:01methodology
14:02of racing
14:03which
14:03there is no work
14:05around on it
14:06taking a bit of time
14:07to figure that out
14:08yeah I mean
14:09the experience
14:10he does have
14:11had a few tracks
14:12have come some
14:13ten years ago
14:13so
14:15that's a
14:15and in completely
14:17different cars
14:17in the likes of
14:18F4 cars
14:19so
14:19for him
14:20it's
14:21that experience
14:22really is
14:23just knows
14:24which way the track
14:24goes if you like
14:25the circuits
14:26the circuits
14:27are not so much
14:28a problem
14:29for a driver
14:30like Colton
14:31you know
14:32he's done
14:33all sorts of
14:35different
14:35you know
14:36crazy street circuits
14:37and had to manage
14:38and had to manage
14:39learning those
14:40as they've
14:41propped up
14:42through the years
14:42done a load of
14:43sports car racing
14:44where you have to
14:45learn your way
14:46around various circuits
14:47it's the tendencies
14:48of the car
14:50that take the time
14:52for drivers
14:52to unlearn
14:53a certain
14:53muscle memory
14:55and gain
14:56a different
14:57muscle memory
14:58and then of course
14:59you're going through
14:59a season
15:00where every
15:01single weekend
15:03you're
15:04requiring
15:05to understand
15:06something different
15:06about the racing car
15:08that you're learning
15:08so
15:09and endlessly
15:10being recorded
15:11each and every
15:12weekend
15:13and judged
15:13for your performance
15:14so
15:14there's no time
15:15to just step away
15:17figure it out
15:17and then come back
15:18to it
15:19because it's
15:19happening right now
15:20so
15:20hopefully
15:21that isolates
15:22in some way
15:23the challenge
15:23yeah absolutely
15:24we've seen he's
15:25had the
15:27potential to go
15:28and fight for
15:28podiums already
15:29well let's go from
15:31Colton Hurtough
15:31over to John Bennett
15:32what a breakthrough
15:34weekend it was
15:35for him
15:35last time out
15:36we saw he had
15:37the pace of Barcelona
15:38he got a personal
15:39best result there
15:40and then John Bennett
15:42going to take
15:43Trident's first win
15:44in two years
15:45his first podium
15:46a superb result
15:47coming into his
15:49home race as well
15:50it was an ice in the
15:52veins victory
15:53in the sprint race
15:54wasn't it
15:55from John Bennett
15:56last couple of laps
15:57battling
15:58with Sebastian Montoya
16:01managed to make
16:01a clean move
16:02really respectful
16:03racing as well
16:04for two drivers
16:05for whom
16:05those positions
16:07meant an awful lot
16:08for their careers
16:10and their onward
16:11motorsport journey
16:12but
16:13John Bennett
16:14really managing
16:15to capitalise
16:17and it was a great
16:18performance for him
16:19and rolls in of course
16:20to his home event
16:21yeah and no doubt
16:23there's going to be
16:23a lot of support
16:24for him
16:25around the circuit
16:26this weekend
16:27has many happy memories
16:29the last time he stood
16:30on the top step
16:31of a podium
16:31before that weekend
16:33was here at Silverstone
16:34in 2024
16:35so this is a circuit
16:37that he knows
16:39very well
16:40has lots of
16:41good memories
16:42around
16:42Dino Beganovic
16:43we look at next
16:44it's been a
16:44it was a bit of a
16:46difficult weekend
16:46for the Dams team
16:47wasn't it
16:48last time out
16:48row seven
16:49qualifying for them
16:50Dino Beganovic
16:51will be hoping
16:52to get his title
16:53campaign back on track
16:55this weekend
16:56yellow flag
16:57is out somewhere
16:58and we believe
16:59it was for
16:59Gabriele Mini
17:00it's come back
17:01in again
17:01so a brief
17:03moment for
17:04Gabriele Mini
17:05being caught up
17:06by one of the
17:07many challenges
17:08around this circuit
17:09a lot of movement
17:10going on
17:10through the Exeter
17:11club
17:11they're really
17:13struggling
17:13to get the power
17:15down this early
17:16stage of the weekend
17:17Montoya comes
17:17across the line
17:18and bumps himself
17:20up to P4
17:22and Boyer
17:24found himself
17:24a little bit
17:25wide
17:25through the
17:25mid corner
17:26of club
17:27it's an important
17:29couple of weekends
17:30I think for
17:30Beganovic
17:31who has
17:32you know
17:33obviously sits
17:33within that
17:34Ferrari Academy
17:34you've got him
17:35and Cameron
17:36who are
17:37you know
17:38looking forward
17:39not necessarily
17:40to the main
17:40seat of Ferrari
17:41but maybe
17:42you know
17:42towards trying
17:43to make
17:44their way
17:44into
17:45a Haas
17:46or indeed
17:47just catch
17:47the attentions
17:48of Ferrari
17:48generally
17:49who of course
17:49are supplying
17:50engines
17:51through the
17:52field
17:52in Formula
17:54One
17:54and Cameron
17:55has come in
17:56and delivered
17:57some great
17:57performances
17:58has won a
17:58feature race
17:59already this
18:00year
18:00Beganovic
18:00of course
18:01is a returning
18:02driver to the
18:03series
18:03and we'll be
18:04looking at that
18:05and thinking
18:06I've got to
18:06retain my
18:07position here
18:07of being
18:08first in line
18:09as a young
18:10Ferrari driver
18:11and that's
18:12got to happen
18:12over the next
18:13couple of races
18:13yeah I mean
18:14we don't just
18:15have the battle
18:15on track
18:16do we
18:17Alex
18:17we have the
18:17inter-team
18:19rivalry within
18:20the Ferrari
18:21Junior Academies
18:22and then the
18:22drivers who
18:23currently don't
18:24have a
18:25NF1 team
18:26looking at them
18:26so to speak
18:27and this is the
18:28time of the
18:29season isn't it
18:29we're halfway
18:30through the
18:30season by the
18:31end of this
18:32weekend
18:32this is where
18:34conversations
18:35might start
18:36to come about
18:37is could there
18:38be some movement
18:39within drivers
18:40moving up
18:41from Formula
18:422 whether it
18:43be to a
18:43reserve role
18:44or a full-time
18:45role what do
18:46you think it is
18:47mainly that the
18:48the F1 team to
18:48be looking for
18:49might sound an
18:50obvious question
18:50but is it that
18:51kind of real
18:52superb performance
18:53that we saw from
18:54camera for example
18:55at Barcelona
18:56in the future
18:56race
18:57I think you're
18:58looking at
18:59mistake rate
19:00you're looking at
19:01obviously pace
19:02but a lot of
19:03that can be
19:03validated through
19:04testing previous
19:05car programs
19:06or indeed
19:06I saw Gabriele
19:08go wide
19:10he's obviously
19:10decided he's
19:11going to keep
19:11it on the
19:11track this
19:12time but
19:13he's had to
19:14scoot that
19:14right out
19:15on the
19:15outside of
19:16cops
19:16he's got a
19:17lot of
19:17oversteer
19:18in that
19:18MP machine
19:19and once
19:20you've skidded
19:21the rear tyre
19:21across the
19:22road at
19:22high speed
19:23then it
19:24doesn't want
19:24to play
19:25and that
19:25is rather
19:26it took a
19:27long time
19:27to play
19:28out
19:28didn't it
19:28that one
19:29but there
19:29was a
19:29twist in
19:29the tail
19:30and finds
19:31himself in
19:31the barrier
19:32at Beckett
19:32yeah he was
19:33having an
19:34argument with
19:34the car
19:34all the way
19:35through
19:36wasn't he
19:36there
19:37and did a
19:38good job
19:38to keep it
19:39going in
19:39the end
19:39I have to
19:39say
19:40Marie Boyer
19:40was on for
19:41a good lap
19:42there
19:42at a great
19:42weekend here
19:43last season
19:44winning the
19:45Formula 3
19:45race
19:46and once
19:47again
19:47cops catching
19:47out another
19:48person
19:48but back
19:49to what
19:49we were
19:50saying
19:50there
19:50Alex
19:51it's
19:51those
19:52breakthrough
19:52performances
19:53I guess
19:53isn't it
19:54from the
19:54drivers
19:55that really
19:56take an
19:58impact on
19:59the F1
19:59teams
20:00yeah
20:00exactly
20:01that
20:01they're
20:02looking for
20:03the speed
20:04and then
20:05the way
20:05that the
20:05races
20:06are driven
20:08and then
20:08alongside
20:09if you get
20:10a run
20:10in an
20:10FP1
20:11or you
20:11get a
20:12run
20:12in a
20:13previous
20:13car
20:14that can
20:14give you
20:15the opportunity
20:15to demonstrate
20:16that you can
20:16make that
20:17transition
20:17which is not
20:18easy to make
20:18of course
20:20into the
20:20world of
20:21Formula 1
20:22but you
20:23know
20:23taking
20:24being able
20:25to put
20:25together
20:25a championship
20:26here is not
20:27to be sniffed
20:28at and
20:28demonstrates a lot
20:29of the
20:29qualities that
20:29Formula 1
20:30teams are
20:31looking for
20:32as well
20:34poor old
20:34Gabriele
20:35Mini
20:35that moment
20:36started with
20:36I don't
20:37like your
20:37t-shirt
20:37in
20:38Cops
20:38and ended
20:38with
20:38I'm
20:39breaking
20:39up
20:39with
20:39you
20:39in
20:39Beckett's
20:40didn't
20:40it
20:42I don't
20:43think I
20:43could put
20:43that any
20:44better
20:44as we
20:45go to
20:45Nikola
20:46Solov
20:46now
20:46coming to
20:47that
20:48Cops
20:48corner
20:48this is
20:49one that
20:49isn't just
20:50going to
20:50play a
20:50part
20:51in terms
20:51of
20:51catching
20:51drivers
20:52out
20:52track
20:52limits
20:53through
20:53there
20:54definitely
20:54going to
20:55be one
20:55to watch
20:56come
20:56qualifying
20:57you can
20:57be on
20:58such
20:58a good
20:58lap
20:58and then
20:59it
20:59can
20:59all
20:59fall
20:59away
21:06you have
21:06to
21:07obviously
21:07abate
21:08your
21:08pace
21:09to make
21:09your way
21:11through
21:11there
21:12turn up
21:12with
21:13a head
21:14of steam
21:14tends to
21:15be a
21:16corner
21:16where you
21:16get
21:16oversteer
21:17from the
21:18mid
21:18to
21:20the exit
21:21and
21:21definitely
21:22it looks
21:22like
21:23drivers
21:23in general
21:24are suffering
21:24with that
21:25kind of
21:25balance
21:26throughout
21:26the lap
21:27everybody
21:27we jump
21:28on board
21:28with
21:29has got
21:29arms
21:30full
21:30of
21:31oversteer
21:31you're
21:32on board
21:32with
21:32Nikola
21:32Solov
21:33who is
21:33the man
21:34who could
21:34take
21:34the
21:35championship
21:35lead
21:36this
21:36weekend
21:37if
21:37all
21:37goes
21:37well
21:388th
21:38position
21:38for
21:39him
21:39in
21:39his

21:40but
21:40waiting
21:41for
21:41the
21:41dams
21:41of
21:42Bilinski
21:42who looks
21:43like
21:43he's
21:44going
21:44to
21:44improve
21:44yeah
21:45he could
21:45possibly
21:46provisionally
21:47take it
21:47in
21:48the
21:48qualifying
21:50session
21:50where you
21:50get two
21:50points
21:51for pole
21:51position
21:52Roman
21:52Bilinski
21:53looking
21:53good
21:54P5
21:54how about
21:55Oli Gertha
21:56Alex
21:56he finally
21:57got that
21:57breakthrough
21:58podium
21:58he had

22:01of near

30:10drivers
30:10and
30:10that's
30:11the
30:11nature of free practice here. It's a very aerodynamically dominated circuit. You've got to get the rate, ride height and
30:17wing level of the car absolutely right. Once you've got that, the rest comes with it. It's a circuit where
30:23your general pace is going to be a factor throughout qualifying the race, but what you really have to do
30:31is get the car fundamentally in the right window for the racetrack. It's not a case of making a big
30:37split between the race and qualifying.
30:41So drivers here on a race and play in the drive-out. It's alvania and air- smiley and a
30:48latinx. It's usually commercial in a bike or two or three of my İhrela while maybe outside of the car.
30:57It's not an environment. I've moved to the other major training innia andria. It's not an environment. You've been given
30:57yourblemight, but it's not an environment. And, J. L. L. I. B. I. A. B. A. I. F. A. is
31:00just the way to work with each other three cars. M. Erichman. F. A. B. I. B. I. B. I.
31:02B. I. S. S. V. I. S. V. I. B. A. B. You. S. V. A. B. R. S. B.
31:08I. B. Y. I. S. V. A. B. A. B. A. B. I. B.
31:09So, we'll keep our eyes peeled on that.
31:11Let's watch Dunne through Stoke.
31:13Dunne's gone into Stoke.
31:15Gets a little bit of oversteer on the way in.
31:17And there is now get-out-of-jail-free on the outside.
31:24Sporadic attendance at the moment in the Lando stand.
31:27Just you wait till the feature race, though.
31:29Absolutely.
31:29They'll be down there.
31:30They'll be out in force.
31:32And the support series all get a huge amount of support around this circuit.
31:37No doubt this will be one of the drivers getting a lot of that support.
31:40And we'll be inspired to go and take a good result here.
31:44How is it as a driver, Alex, coming in to a home race wherever you are?
31:49It must be...
31:51Does it add an extra element of pressure or an extra element of excitement?
31:55That's something that affects all drivers differently.
31:58Some relish the home support.
32:00Some feel a tremendous amount of pressure.
32:03But what it can do, though, even at Formula 2 level, is increase the number of engagements
32:08that they have through the weekend.
32:10So at your home race, you'll be pulled from pillar to post to make appearances, etc.
32:15And again, some drivers are better than others.
32:17And it's another thing that is indicative of your ability to move on to the next level.
32:23Compartmentalizing those moments when they have to be in media mode
32:27and immediately jumping across and being in performance mode
32:31because your home track has no bearing on, you know, making you quicker arbitrarily.
32:37You've still got to get out there and do the job.
32:40Equally, the advantage, the notional advantage of being at your home circuit
32:44is pretty mute these days because you still get to drive it only once a year
32:49like everybody else does.
32:50You can't go and do a load of extra testing just because it's close to your house.
32:52So, yeah, that's the nature of coming to your home race.
32:58Notional support, but realistically, the apexes all still look the same
33:02and you've got to hit them.
33:03Absolutely.
33:04That hitting them very well.
33:05On this lap is Dino Viganovic.
33:07Are we going to see a new driver at the top?
33:09Roman Belinsky is up to second place.
33:12Going very well, our dams.
33:14And they are now second and third with Dino Viganovic going P2.
33:18Going back to what you were saying there, Alex,
33:20there is a lot of engagements for these drivers all the time, isn't there?
33:24The weekend really starts on Thursday,
33:27which isn't just a day to walk the track and do prep.
33:30It is lots of media sessions they have to do
33:32and they'll be out on stage in front of the fans.
33:35Out on stage in front of the fans and also, for example,
33:38Mary Boyer was hooning an Aston Martin around the track yesterday,
33:42you know, doing all of his media engagements for that Junior Academy.
33:47I mean, you know, so they've got a tremendous amount to do
33:49and actually will have to schedule in the meetings with their teams
33:52and elbow out some time to make sure that they can do that.
33:56But that's part of the game.
33:57You know, they're young drivers,
33:59but they're not only, you know, names now,
34:03but preparing to potentially be even bigger names in the future.
34:07It's part of the deal of being a professional racing driver, of course.
34:12Circuit falling away ever so slightly,
34:14which makes that an even more impressive lap from Alex Dunn.
34:1742.0 now the benchmark for him.
34:22So slowly moving forward.
34:242025 pole position was a 39.7
34:29to give you a feel for how far the track is away.
34:31Yeah, still plenty of rubber to go down.
34:35Cushmine in eighth.
34:36Top three splits by less than a tenth of a second.
34:40It's incredibly close.
34:41Then it's Belinsky, Minny, Dirksen, Bennett, Minny, Boyer and Montoya,
34:46both in the top ten.
34:48Premo will be hoping to have a good weekend
34:50as Dirksen comes across the line.
34:52Not able to improve this time.
34:54Nikola Solov down in 14th.
34:56Campos Racing yet to really get times on the board
34:59in comparison to how they've been doing this season.
35:03Case of what you're trying at this phase of the session.
35:07A circuit is very sensitive to weight as well.
35:10And that's because of these high-speed switchbacks as the weight moves.
35:14Fuel weight is absolutely the worst kind because you can't control it.
35:19Slosh is about in the tank and is generally unruly in the car.
35:24So if you're carrying fuel through Cops, Maggots and Beckett's is worth a lot of time.
35:29This and Spa, really, are the circuits where you really suffer with the fuel load.
35:34Why am I mentioning that?
35:35Because they'll all be on different fuel loads in practice
35:37depending on what they're prioritising.
35:39So it's difficult to know.
35:41That being said, Solov will be hoping this is a better lap
35:44to keep a representative time on the board.
35:46And it's only up to tenth.
35:48Because no matter how much you're coming to the end of the session,
35:50your engineer explains to you that you were carrying more fuel
35:53or you were focusing on the race,
35:55still doesn't look great to see your name at the bottom of the list.
35:58No, absolutely not.
36:00Let's watch camera over the line second.
36:02Like you talked about before,
36:05when you get to that feature race,
36:06you've got full fuel in
36:08and the car is going to feel a lot different
36:10to what it was, say, in qualifying.
36:12Exactly.
36:13And this is a racetrack where you've got to nail the ride height.
36:16So engineers will always be,
36:19as we see the dams make its way wide once more in Cops.
36:23There are track limits deletions coming in
36:28all the time as we speak.
36:30It's going to be a factor this weekend, definitely.
36:31But your engineer here at Silverstone
36:34will want a feel for what the car is like
36:36on at least high fuel
36:38because you've got to run the ride height optimised here.
36:41You've got to get it absolutely right.
36:43Your wing level versus your ride height
36:45versus your fuel load, of course,
36:47is a dynamic process
36:49with a couple of those things pushing against the other one.
36:52So, yeah, for the driver,
36:54you're going to have to give up a bit of time
36:56in free practice for your engineer
36:58to understand the car and nail it for you
37:00for the quality and the race.
37:00It's precisely the processes
37:03they'd be going through in Formula 1.
37:06Your drivers in Formula 2
37:08all about preparing for those races
37:10as we see the Ganovich third,
37:12the Linsky fourth.
37:14Dam's going really well.
37:15The ARTs both in the top 10 as well
37:18with Inchapuva Zak and Maini.
37:19As we jump on board with Alex Dunn,
37:21it's looking another good lap from the Irishman.
37:23Big commitment on his way in to Stoke.
37:27Still got that movement through the steering wheel,
37:29but this time he catches it,
37:30points the car back towards the exit curb.
37:33Bit of rear locking on his way down to the veil,
37:36but cuts the inside curb nicely
37:38and has the now textbook struggle
37:42with the steering wheel through the exit.
37:43and that's where they lose a little bit of time
37:46as the tyre gets older with Dad watching on.
37:50Decent lap as well for Sebastian Montoya up to full.
37:53Yeah, came very close to that first win,
37:56didn't he, all the way down to the final lap.
38:00He'll feel no doubt his win is on the way.
38:02Just got to keep putting in those solid performances,
38:04Sebastian Montoya.
38:05Just got to do that.
38:06And Trish Maini makes his way in
38:09in another Alpine delivery car
38:11run by a totally different team
38:15at ART.
38:16That was an improvement for Montoya,
38:19but relatively few improvements.
38:22You tend to lose the rear tyre
38:23through the exit of Club,
38:25through the exit of Luffield
38:26is where the time tends to drop away
38:30from the driver.
38:31This section of the lap,
38:32where you go into Brooklands,
38:33then have to get out of Luffield.
38:36As the rear tyre goes away
38:37in a single seater,
38:38you really bleed time
38:41as you have to brake
38:42and turn through the exit.
38:45Yeah, absolutely that.
38:46On board with Niklas Solov,
38:48he'll be grabbing a bit of a tote
38:49down towards Copse
38:51as we go to Intra Puvasak.
38:54Good result for him.
38:55In the feature race last time out
38:57with fifth place,
38:57heads out of the final corner now
38:59onto the Hamilton straight
39:01and it remains P9.
39:03Drivers seem to be just pumping
39:05in the laps right now.
39:06Not too much change
39:08to the times to the left.
39:10We are seeing some deletions
39:11as you mentioned, Alex.
39:13Now that's going to be a thing to watch
39:14both in qualifying
39:16but the race as well.
39:17If you do a number of track limits,
39:20you will get a penalty in the race.
39:23Got to try and keep it inside
39:25the track limits if you can
39:26and Hoopent making his way
39:28wide through the middle of Beckett.
39:30The balance of these Formula 2 cars
39:33on a dirty track
39:34is so, so tricky.
39:36Just watching Intra Puvasak there,
39:37it was very hanging,
39:39washing on a windy day,
39:41wasn't it?
39:41Through the middle of...
39:42and really Camara.
39:46The important thing now for the team
39:48is to be not to overreact to this circuit
39:50because it changes massively,
39:52of course,
39:54when they go to run later on.
39:56We'll have had a sequence of F1 running
40:00before that.
40:01Not an improvement for Camara either
40:03as we move into the virtual safety car.
40:06Yeah, virtual safety car coming out
40:08at the end of the session
40:10and this will take us,
40:13I imagine,
40:14to the checkered flag,
40:16the virtual safety car.
40:17This is a test coming
40:18at the end of the session
40:19and then they'll get a chance
40:20to do some practice starts.
40:21Very good session for Alex Dunn.
40:24It's a brilliant start
40:25for the roading driver
40:26but very, very close
40:28in terms of the times.
40:30We've seen roading extremely strong here
40:32over the years
40:34and a focus
40:37on this event for them
40:39for the team
40:42who have a majority,
40:45it would say,
40:46of British personnel.
40:48Camera very close though
40:52and extremely close, isn't it?
40:54As you mentioned, Chris,
40:55at the front of the field.
40:57Bolinski coming through.
40:58Cops
41:00and just going a little bit
41:02wide coming through that.
41:05You can see him
41:05just fighting
41:06with that steering wheel
41:07coming through.
41:09Yeah.
41:10Something you can do
41:11in push laps
41:14but if you've not got
41:15the balance
41:16through those very high-speed corners
41:18in a car like this,
41:19you just cannot catch
41:21a downforce car
41:23for a whole race.
41:24You have to nail
41:24the back down for you.
41:26There's only so many.
41:27In qualifying,
41:28you might be able to,
41:29in free practice,
41:30if you've not got
41:31the balance quite right,
41:32you might be able to.
41:33There are only a certain
41:36number of laps
41:36where you can flood
41:37the back of a Formula 2 car
41:39through Cops
41:40and then catch it
41:41before you eventually
41:43get pinged for track limits
41:44or make a mistake.
41:45Yeah.
41:46Something they might
41:47take the risk on
41:48coming through qualifying.
41:51but getting a banker lap in
41:53is also crucial as well
41:56and we've seen
41:56drivers punished for that
41:58in the past.
41:59Not getting a lap in
41:59and then an interrupted session
42:01really hurts their chances
42:03of getting a full lap.
42:06Well, it's a relatively
42:06long outlap here as well.
42:08So, it's easy to get caught out.
42:10If you're going to have to build
42:11tyre temperature,
42:13you're going to be doing,
42:14you know,
42:15two minute,
42:15two minute plus outlaps.
42:17So, actually,
42:19getting out,
42:19getting round
42:20and delivering a lap
42:22if there is
42:22a red flag in qualifying
42:24can become really difficult.
42:26So, as you mentioned,
42:27it's tricky
42:27and you must get
42:29that banker lap in.
42:31Well, it's a home race
42:33for the high-tech team
42:35this weekend.
42:36They'll be hoping
42:36for good results
42:38with their drivers
42:39Rotoma Miata on screen
42:40and Colton Hurta.
42:42So, let's hear
42:42what team principal
42:43Oli Oaks had to say
42:44coming into the weekend.
42:46It's just a proper circuit,
42:48isn't it?
42:48You've got a mix of corners.
42:50Obviously,
42:51over the years
42:51the weather's played a part
42:52as well
42:53and I think
42:54it's just one of those weekends
42:55where you just know
42:56it's going to be good racing
42:57and I think particularly
42:59for us as a team
43:00it's almost nice
43:01to have staff
43:02who are always
43:02sort of at the factory
43:03watching on TV
43:04who get to come along as well
43:06and mixing all of that in
43:07it just makes it
43:08for a good weekend.
43:10Just around the corner
43:11this as well,
43:12isn't it?
43:12For the high-tech team
43:14at the Silverstone Circuit
43:15so it really is
43:18a home race for them
43:20and I think
43:21Oli Oaks making
43:22a great point there.
43:24It is always
43:25very good racing
43:26around Silverstone.
43:28Yeah,
43:28they can overtake
43:29around here.
43:30A couple of DRS zones.
43:31If you get a bad exit
43:33you're going to be punished.
43:34It's a great opportunity.
43:35It never seems
43:37to amaze me
43:37how many people work
43:39for professional racing teams
43:40that don't get to see
43:42racing cars
43:42that run on track
43:44on a routine basis.
43:46So it's a huge opportunity
43:47for all of those guys
43:48to get down
43:49to the track
43:50and have a bit of a look
43:52at the end product.
43:54There we are, look.
43:55That's all on their way
43:55to the grandstands.
43:57Absolutely.
43:57High-tech.
43:58Just the one win
43:59for them
43:59in 2020 here.
44:01Didn't come in front
44:02of a crowd, of course.
44:03They'll be hoping
44:03to change that
44:04this weekend.
44:05But the crowd
44:07now in full force
44:09and there'll be
44:10plenty of people
44:11around for the
44:12qualifying session
44:14later.
44:1455 minutes past two
44:16and no doubt
44:17for both the sprint
44:18and the feature race
44:20as well
44:21as we watch
44:22our championship leader
44:22coming around
44:24the final corner.
44:26Now,
44:27solid session
44:27for him as well.
44:29P6.
44:30We're relatively
44:30happy with that.
44:31Getting a feel
44:32for the virtual safety car.
44:33This is more
44:33for race control
44:34to be honest.
44:36To isolate
44:37if there are any issues
44:38with the timing loops.
44:40It's all controlled
44:41automatically
44:41by earliest arrival points.
44:44So,
44:44you,
44:46as the driver,
44:47get given a countdown
44:48for how early
44:49you can arrive
44:50to the next one.
44:52And race control
44:53basically making sure
44:54that that works.
44:55But also giving the drivers
44:56a look at it as well.
44:58It's automated enough
44:59so that obviously
45:00it would be problematic
45:01if there was
45:02an issue
45:03with the system.
45:04They'll get to roll around
45:05and line up
45:07on what is
45:08one of
45:09the longest
45:12runs
45:12of the year
45:15for Formula One
45:16to the first
45:16braking zone.
45:17But for Formula Two
45:18it's totally different
45:19because of course
45:19they have to get out
45:20of it in Abbey.
45:21So,
45:21it is a totally
45:23different start here
45:24for the Formula Two cars
45:25as it is for the Formula One cars
45:27because they're so
45:27grip limited
45:28in Turn One.
45:29Tell us about that
45:30challenge
45:31coming through
45:32through Abbey
45:33and then up
45:34towards
45:34Village.
45:35There are opportunities
45:37there
45:37to make some places
45:39isn't there?
45:39We've seen drivers
45:40go around the upside
45:41for example
45:41at Village
45:42and then you've got
45:42the inside
45:43into the loop.
45:44Good opportunities
45:45to make some
45:46places up
45:47but there are also
45:48opportunities
45:48for some coming
45:49together as well.
45:50Yeah,
45:51it's pretty wide
45:52that first
45:52braking zone
45:53down at Village.
45:54If you do get
45:55squeezed out
45:56or can't find
45:57space
45:57at Abbey
45:58you have to
45:59basically go
46:00on a bit
46:00of a commute
46:00on the runoff
46:02area around
46:02the outside
46:03and then rejoin
46:04on the exit
46:05of what is
46:06basically
46:06Turn Three.
46:08So that's
46:09not particularly
46:10quick
46:11and can be
46:12problematic
46:13early on
46:14and then they'll
46:15all just be
46:15thinking about
46:16that first
46:17braking zone
46:18and trying to
46:18position themselves
46:19nicely
46:20you tend to
46:21string out
46:22through Aintree
46:23and then onto
46:23the Wellington
46:24Straight
46:24although we do
46:25see a few
46:25moments of
46:26brinkmanship
46:26in that left
46:28hander as well
46:28that can come
46:29to blows
46:30so a complex
46:31start
46:32it must be
46:33said.
46:33Let's have a
46:33look at how
46:34they end up
46:34after free
46:35practice
46:35though shall
46:35we Chris?
46:36Absolutely.
46:37Very close
46:38practice session
46:39it's Alex Dunn
46:40who tops it
46:41with a 142.065
46:43but the top
46:44three split
46:45by less than
46:45a tenth
