00:00She is the first female Singaporean to drive in Formula 4.
00:04So I decided to hang out with her for the day and see what it's like to train like a
00:08driver.
00:12How are you?
00:14I'm good.
00:14It's been a year since we last met.
00:16Absolutely remarkable how much has happened in the span of a year.
00:20Can you just give us a quick update?
00:21I'm Karine. I'm 15 years old and I'm a Formula 4 driver.
00:33My next goal is F1 Academy because it's a stepping step to show the world who you really are.
00:40So how important is training to you and your regime?
00:43Effort is really physical so I have to train a lot on my neck and my claw.
00:48So this is my trainer Dean.
00:50Nice to meet you.
00:51Nice to meet you.
00:52Today we are going to start off with a farmer's walk.
00:55Scissors, paper, stone.
00:57Leg up, forward and down.
01:00So you've already said that you need to be stronger.
01:03Yeah.
01:03So how are you going to get there?
01:04By training harder.
01:06Two times harder than the boys.
01:08Wow, that's a lot.
01:11Next up, we got our traditional barbell back squat.
01:14You're up first.
01:18And up.
01:19Guys, let's keep it nice and slow and smooth.
01:21Your training is obviously one element of it.
01:24But tell me about the rest of it as well.
01:25Like nutrition and all of that.
01:27I eat like five meals a day.
01:29Five meals a day.
01:30If there was one meal that is your go-to, you're like, I will eat that.
01:34What is it?
01:35McDonald's.
01:36What?
01:37So then if you could only eat McDonald's or if you could only ever drive, what would you choose?
01:46Always driving.
01:47After a good workout, it's important for the body to recover.
01:51Fortunately, Saul has something prepared for us.
01:54Most of the top F1 drivers use ice baths for recovery.
01:57So your body's going to enter in shock right at the beginning.
02:00You're just going to get used to it.
02:01I'm not sure how amazing I'm going to feel.
02:03I hate the cold.
02:04What about you?
02:05Same.
02:05I still don't like it.
02:06You can drive cars at over 200 kilometers per hour, but you are afraid of an ice bath?
02:10Yes.
02:11What is this?
02:13Oh.
02:14Oh.
02:15Oh.
02:15Oh.
02:15Oh.
02:16Oh.
02:16Get in there.
02:17Get in there, woman.
02:18Come on.
02:19You're told us to, like, slow down the breathing.
02:22So I'm working on that.
02:23I don't think I can actually feel anything below my thumbs.
02:26We're talking about preparation.
02:27This is all about mental preparation.
02:31How do you mentally prepare yourself to get in the car?
02:33I do ball drills.
02:34Ball drills?
02:35My dad do a reaction test.
02:38I hold the ball in his hand and it will drop.
02:40I have to catch it before I start to go out.
02:42Tell me a little bit about your motto.
02:43My motto is I never give up.
02:46Because I feel that if I give up, then I will think to myself,
02:49why did I even do it in the house, please?
02:52Going up against the boys thing.
02:53So that's clearly a big thing for you.
02:55Would you say that's your bigger driver?
02:57Because it's a male-dominated sport.
02:59You need to toughen up.
03:01All right.
03:01I think we've made the ultimate sacrifice by being here.
03:03Should we go get warm?
03:04Yes.
03:05Let's go.
03:05That was possible.
03:10Karine, have you warmed up yet?
03:12I am warming up now.
03:14How was that experience for you?
03:16Did you enjoy being in the arts?
03:17I think at the end, I felt less tense.
03:20So what does your future hold for you?
03:22Because you seem pretty certain about it.
03:24Hopefully on the path to F1.
03:26So speaking of F1 then,
03:28what are you looking forward to at the Singapore Grand Prix?
03:30Having the opportunity to meet George Russell.
03:33With the F1 Academy staff,
03:35what are you looking forward to the most?
03:38Meeting all the drivers
03:39because hopefully next year they will be my competitors.
03:44I like it.
03:45Cheers to that.
03:47Well, it's going to be a great Singapore Grand Prix,
03:50that's for sure.
