00:03Thank you for supporting your PBS station.
00:07That's me, Fred the house cat.
00:09When my family leaves for the day,
00:11I don't just sit inside watching the world go by.
00:14I become...
00:19Nature Cat! Backyard explorer extraordinaire!
00:24Tally ho! Tally ho!
00:27We're climbing out the trees now.
00:29We're swinging through the breeze now.

00:33Nature Cat! Nature Cat! Nature Cat!
00:35Nature Cat! Nature Cat! Nature Cat!
00:37Nature Cat! Nature Cat!
00:39So what are we waiting for?
00:41We're so excited to explore
00:43All that nature has in store.
00:45Tally ho! Tally ho!
00:47Tally ho!
00:49We're the favorite nature guide.
00:51We just can't wait to get outside!
00:53We're swinging through the trees now.
00:55We're jumping in the leaves now.
00:57We're getting muddy knees now.
00:59We're getting muddy knees now.
01:01Tally ho!
01:03Tally ho!
01:05什么 ho!
01:13Kingdom of Rotting Log
01:15Tally ho!
01:17Tally ho!
01:19Whoa!
01:26Stop, my brave steed!
01:31Whoops!
01:32Sorry, sire.
01:33This appeareth to be an idyllic spot to set up our kingdom-eth, my royal clip-clopper.
01:41Okie-dokie, sire!
01:43Alerteth!
01:44The royal castle-builder-eth!
01:46You got it, this!
01:48Oh, royal castle-builders!
01:52I believe you summoned us, sire!
01:55I did it, Lady Daisy!
01:58Your castle, sire!
02:03Why, thank you, Squeaks-a-lot!
02:06Now, what say we...
02:09Build a castle!
02:11If...
02:13To the castle grounds!
02:15Onward and yonward-eth!
02:18Ugh!
02:19Ugh!
02:21Okie, who put this here?
02:24Cool!
02:25Look at all that stuff growing on it!
02:27I bet this log has been here for a while.
02:30Oh, now it's rotting!
02:32If...
02:33But it's in the way of our new kingdom!
02:35But it's in the way of our new kingdom!
02:36Hear ye, hear ye!
02:37I, King Nature Cat, declare we move this useless, rotting log away to make room for our castle!
02:45Hmm!
02:45Mm!
02:46Uhh, uhh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh...
02:48Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!
02:49Yuck!
02:50Oh!
02:50Uh!
02:51Huh.
02:53Ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie, ewwie!
02:57Feels kind of damp and slippery under that bark.
03:00Interesting.
03:01Probably why the answer there.
03:03They like damp environments.
03:05Hey, it's so soft.
03:09And it smells delightful.
03:12All earthy and woodsy.
03:14A big thumbs up from the old sniffer.
03:17But it's still in our way, you guys.
03:20A kingdom with a rotting log
03:23is merely a kingdom with...
03:26a rotting log.
03:29Let's just roll this out of here.
03:31Ready? One, two, three, roll!
03:37Again, roll!
03:44Oh, hey!
03:46Maybe we can pop the log out
03:47by wedging this branch underneath it.
03:50Oh-ho! A splendid notion, Lady Daisy.
03:56I, King Nature Cat, shall move the log.
04:00Um, a little help, please.
04:12Oh, it's working!
04:13It's working!
04:14It's working!
04:14It's working!
04:14All right, plan B.
04:27Once we pull the rope,
04:28that pesky rotting log will pop out
04:30and we'll be able to finally build our castle!
04:33Good plan, sire, my sire!
04:39Three, two, one, pull!
04:46Well, I guess that's the end of plan B.
04:49Yay!
04:50Yay!
04:51Spud!
04:55Does anyone have a plan C or a D?
04:57I'd even settle for an E at this point.
05:00Well, since we can't move the rotted log,
05:03maybe we can build our castle around it.
05:05Ooh!
05:06Love it!
05:08Oh, I'm so down with that!
05:10Break out the castle!
05:11Oh!
05:16Hmm.
05:17Uh-huh.
05:18Uh-huh.
05:20Uh-huh.
05:22What?
05:22What?
05:23We build the castle by the numbers.
05:25From what numbers?
05:29These numbers, Hal.
05:31For example, the instructions say
05:33to attach piece number one
05:34to piece number two.
05:37Observe.
05:37Building our castle will be a snap.
05:41Tally-ho!
05:42Tally-ho!
06:07A little fanfare, my royal clip-clopper.
06:19Tally-ho!
06:24Tally-ho!
06:25Tally-ho!
06:26Tally-ho!
06:28Tally-ho!
06:35Tally-ho!
06:39Thank you, Hal.
06:41Anytime, sire!
06:42I hereby proclaimeth the kingdom of the cat and friends is now officially a kingdom.
06:53Open the castle door, Squigselot.
06:58Ta-da!
06:59Let me try that again.
07:01Ta-da!
07:03Okay, one more time.
07:04Ta-da!
07:05Oh, I see the problem.
07:07Man, oh man, the rotting log is in the way.
07:10We can't get into our castle.
07:14Fear not, my loyal subjects.
07:16King Nature Cat has the solution.
07:20Squigselot, being small but mighty.
07:24That I am.
07:25You are the perfect candidate to thread this rope through the rotting log and out the other side.
07:32Let us do this.
07:36You go, girl.
07:37Be careful, Squig.
07:40Uh, somebody's in here.
07:49Oh, a lot of somebody.
07:52Yikes!
07:54Whoa, it's like a tiny little kingdom in here.
07:58Who are you?
08:00I'm Doris.
08:01Nice to meet you, Doris.
08:02I'm Squeaks.
08:03You scared me.
08:04What are you doing here?
08:04The bigger question is, what are you doing here?
08:08This is my home.
08:10And a lot of others live here, too.
08:12You live here on this rotting log?
08:14Hey, Squeaks.
08:16Namaste.
08:17Vincent!
08:17Oh, my gosh.
08:19It's been so long.
08:20You live here, too?
08:21Yep.
08:22Used to live in that old rotting log by the stream.
08:25But that nutty woodpecker drove me crazy, man.
08:28Rat-a-tat-tat all day long.
08:30Hope he never finds this log.
08:32I hear you, buddy.
08:33Neighbors are weird.
08:35Hey, you be good, sister.
08:37Time for lunch.
08:39Right on.
08:40Come on, Squeaks.
08:45I'll show you around.
08:47See?
08:48Because this log started to rot, it's nice and hollow inside.
08:52Plenty of space for me and others to make their homes.
08:55Yeah, let's place rocks.
08:57Yep.
08:58We got ants, beetles, termites, salamanders, worms, chipmunks.
09:04You name it.
09:04If they can fit, they can sit.
09:08And this is my place.
09:10Pretty cozy, huh?
09:12Wow, nice rug.
09:13I wouldn't have picked that color scheme, but it works.
09:16Thanks.
09:17I like it, too.
09:19Hey, D.
09:21Who's your pal?
09:23Oh, say hi to Squeaks.
09:25Hey, Squeaks.
09:26You moving in?
09:27You know what?
09:29No.
09:30Are we moving out?
09:32No way.
09:35So you see, guys, we can't just move the log.
09:37It's their home.
09:39Home sweet.
09:40Home.
09:41Huh.
09:42But the log is in the way of our kingdom.
09:45Or is our kingdom in the way of that log?
09:49Whoa, good thinking, Daisy.
09:52Look, this old rotting log may seem unimportant to you, but it's not to us.
09:58Right, Vincent?
09:59Right on, Doris.
10:01Leaving these old logs alone means really great things for everything in the forest.
10:05It's important to just let them rot.
10:08Like, uh, that one.
10:10Over there.
10:11Yeah, I lived in that one until it began to fall apart.
10:15Brother Centipede and Brother Slug moved in.
10:18And now that log is on its way to becoming dirt.
10:21And not just any old dirt.
10:23Soil the forest needs to stay healthy.
10:29Rotting logs play such an important role in the life and health of a forest.
10:33Please don't take our log away.
10:36It's our home.
10:38Our place to live.
10:40Yeah.
10:41That's some deep stuff, Sister Doris.
10:43Right on.
10:44Fanfare, Hal.
10:50Hear ye hear...
10:51Hear ye hear...
10:54Hear ye hear...
10:56Okay, no fanfare.
10:58That's my bad.
10:59Hear ye hear ye.
11:01I, King Nature Cat, do hereby proclaim that there is already a kingdom here.
11:07The kingdom of rotting log.
11:10And I named Doris, the queen of rotting log.
11:17Aw, thank you, Major Cat.
11:19I have a great idea.
11:23Uh, wait, we're left to left to...
11:25No, wait, wait, to the right.
11:27And a little more to the right and...
11:29Right there.
11:32The perfect spot.
11:33Your castle here.
11:35Rotting logs there.
11:37I thank thee, Queen Doris of rotting log, for your wisdom.
11:43And I thank thee, King Nature Cat, for your understanding.
11:49Let the royal celebration begin.
11:51Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do
12:21Fun and adventure awaits!
12:31Whoa!
12:32Whoa!
12:33Whoa!
12:34Whoa!
12:35Whoa!
12:36Whoa!
12:37Whoa!
12:38Whoa!
12:39Whoa!
12:40Whoa!
12:41Whoa!
12:42Ha-ha!
12:43Here we are, Walter's Field.
12:46Who's ready for fun and adventure?
12:49Me!
12:50Me!
12:51Pick me!
12:52Um, Nature Cat, what kind of adventure are we going to have on this empty, open field?
12:57Oh, no, no, no, Daisy.
13:00Our adventure won't take place on the field.
13:03Our adventure will take us under the field.
13:07Under?
13:08But of course, my furry friends, it's number 73 on my nature curiosity list.
13:14Behold!
13:15Let's see, number 71, can I sleep standing up like a cow?
13:20Me, me, me, me, me, me.
13:25Try that.
13:26Number 72, does a goose have goosebumps?
13:31Hmm, not likely.
13:33Whoa!
13:34Here it is, number 73.
13:38If I keep digging a hole deeper and deeper, where will I end up?
13:44Oh, I know, I know, I so know!
13:46Wait, I don't know.
13:47Exactly!
13:48That's why it's on my curiosity list.
13:51I'm thinking if we dig deep enough, we'll come out the other side of the earth.
13:57I've been wondering the same exact thing, Nature Cat.
14:00But after digging through the earth, wouldn't we just fall out of our hole into space and then just be floating around forever?
14:08I don't think we can fall off earth.
14:10You know, because of gravity.
14:13I heard from my best friend Charlie the dog, who heard from his best friend's sister's best friend's cousin's best friend's brother, who just so happens to be my best friend Charlie the dog, that if we dig all the way through the earth, we'll end up in China.
14:26China!
14:27You are kidding me!
14:29China!
14:30Um, Hal, I'm pretty sure digging to China is just an expression.
14:36Then it's settled.
14:37We dig here and we see where we come out.
14:41Tally ho!
14:47Are we there yet?
14:48Um, not quite, Hal.
14:50We have about another, um, well, 8,000 miles to get to the other side.
14:56Still 8,000 miles?
14:59Wait, can't we just, like, go around or something?
15:03Around?
15:04Anyone can go around, Hal.
15:06But we are adventurers, explorers.
15:10We push boundaries, break rules, dare to try the impossible.
15:16We're going to dig all the way through.
15:20Besides, it's quicker.
15:21How are we going to do that, Nature Cat?
15:23I got nothing.
15:25We need some help.
15:27So, you say you're going to dig through the center of the earth to the other side?
15:31Well, there are a few important things you need to know.
15:34To begin with, inside earth, you have to dig through three layers.
15:39The top layer is called the crust.
15:42It's the thinnest of the three layers.
15:44Think of the crust like the skin of an apple.
15:47That's how thin it is compared with the other two layers.
15:50How about that?
15:52And you should know that the deeper you dig, the hotter it gets.
15:56The next layer is called the mantle.
15:59Earth's mantle is much thicker than the crust.
16:02It gets so hot there that the rocks melt.
16:06Whoa-ho-ho!
16:07Now that's some hot stuff.
16:09The third and final layer of the earth is its core.
16:13The core is huge, bigger than the moon, and the hottest of the three layers.
16:19We're talking really, really, really hot.
16:23If you succeed, you will be the first ever to make it through the center of the earth.
16:28So, good luck and happy digging.
16:32Whoa!
16:33That's a lot of digging and a lot of heat to deal with.
16:36Hmm.
16:37We need a better way to dig through earth.
16:40Earth.
16:41But how?
16:42How?
16:43How?
16:51How about this?
16:52Just a little something I've been tinkering with.
16:54I call it Earth Breaker One!
16:57Yeah!
16:58Oh!
16:59Earth Breaker One!
17:01What?
17:02Feast your eyes on this puppy.
17:04Not you, Hal.
17:05Totally, fully equipped.
17:08A huge drill to dig us through the center of the earth and beyond.
17:13Heat shields to protect us from the scorching heat.
17:17And a light to illuminate our way.
17:20Whoa-ho-ho!
17:21Earth Breaker One is ready for action.
17:23Are we?
17:24Yes!
17:25Let's go!
17:26Time to begin our journey to explore the earth beneath Walter.
17:30Walter's Field.
17:37Tally-ho!
17:43Let's make history.
17:45Ready?
17:46Ready, Captain!
17:47Good to go!
17:49To the center of the earth and beyond!
17:56Onward and downward!
18:00Are we there yet?
18:01Ha!
18:02Oh, no.
18:03Not yet, Hal.
18:04We're just tuddling through the earth's crust.
18:07Oh, okay.
18:08I see.
18:09How about now?
18:10It sure is hot.
18:15And the deeper we get, the hotter it's going to get.
18:18Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot.
18:22Oh, I got an idea!
18:25Yeah, nothing like an ice-cold glass of lemonade to feed the heat.
18:36Yup. Are we there yet?
18:39Hold on to your socks, guys. We're moving to the second layer, the mantle.
18:44Like you said, it's getting hotter out there.
18:48And in here, too. Woo-wee!
18:52Fun fact, the heat here can melt most anything.
18:55But don't worry about it. Anything, huh?
18:58Melted cheese!
19:04So, okay, I have a question. Hmm, where do I begin? Uh, let's try here. Are we there yet?
19:10Nope. Whoa!
19:13Sludge! It's pushing us around!
19:18Quick! Activate the Sloppy Sludge Smoosher!
19:21Sloppy Sludge Smoosher activated!
19:24What she said!
19:30Hang on, everybody! We're getting through the sludge!
19:34Hooray!
19:36Oh, I don't know if anybody brought this up earlier, but just a quick question.
19:39Are we there yet?
19:40No, Hal, but it is getting hotter.
19:44Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot.
19:46Oh!
19:49That's fantastic.
19:52Good one, Nature Cat!
19:55I just have one follow-up question.
19:57Are we there yet?
19:58We've reached the core, the hottest of the three. And as we get closer to the center, it turns from a liquid to solid metal.
20:08Solid metal, squeaks, hurry! Activate the super drill!
20:16Activating the super drill!
20:18All systems go, drilling through the core!
20:23Yes! Haha! Nothing can stop us now!
20:29I take that back.
20:35Oh, no! We can't go any farther!
20:38How could the super drill break?
20:41Well, I guess the super drill wasn't strong enough.
20:43What do we do now?
20:45Think!
20:46Everyone think!
20:48Um, you think maybe the super duper drill will do the trick?
20:53Great thinking, Hal!
20:54Yeah, Hal, I think it will!
20:56We just need someone to go out there in that hot, hot heat and attach that drill!
21:00Consider it done!
21:06Okay, here I go to fix the drill!
21:09No, wait, not ready yet!
21:10Need to, uh, stretch!
21:11Yes! Haha!
21:12Stretching, better, all stretched, ready to go!
21:15Wrong!
21:15Lost confidence, now gaining confidence and gaining fear!
21:19Too much fear, too little confidence, too scared, but I gotta go!
21:22I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't!
21:25Yes, I can't!
21:27Tally ho!
21:30Tally ho!
21:35Tally ho!
21:36Tally ho!
21:38Tally ho!
21:38Tally ho!
21:48Tally ho!
21:48Ah!
21:49Turn up the drill!
21:51Tally ho!
21:55Off we go, to the other side of the earth!
21:57Onward and downward.
22:03We've passed the halfway mark.
22:05Hang on, switching to warp speed.
22:10I love warp speed, really!
22:16So, Hal, any questions for me about how far we've gotten?
22:23Um, questions, questions. Hmm.
22:28I don't think so, but are we there yet?
22:31Is that a question?
22:34Oh, yeah, we're here!
22:36We did it! We did it!
22:38We did it! We did it!
22:40We dug all the way through the earth!
22:43But wait, where are we?
22:49Number 73.
22:51If I keep digging a hole deeper and deeper from Walter's Field,
22:54where will I come out?
22:56The ocean!
22:58And not just any ocean.
23:00My GPS says the Indian Ocean!
23:03Yay!
23:04Yay!
23:05Woo-hoo!
23:06We did it!
23:07Yeah!
23:08Oh, I'm so glad we're there yet!
23:10Yay!
23:11Woo-hoo!
23:12Yeah!
