00:00Music
00:02Music
00:04Music
00:06Music
00:08Music
00:10Music
00:12Music
00:14Music
00:16Music
00:18Music
00:20Music
00:22Saw your face yesterday
00:24Music
00:26Thinking
00:28On the days of old
00:30Music
00:32And the price
00:34That we paid
00:36Music
00:38For a love
00:40We couldn't hold
00:42Music
00:44Or let you slip away
00:48Music
00:50There was nothing
00:52I could do
00:54Music
00:56It was so long
00:58Ago
01:00Yeah
01:02It's what I often think
01:04Of you
01:08I fall down
01:10I give up
01:14And I always
01:16Had to fight
01:20Everything that was wrong
01:24For the things
01:26For the things
01:28That were right
01:30And now
01:32Finally found my way
01:34Now I know just what to do
01:40Would you say goodbye to me
01:44Would you say goodbye to me
01:46Yeah
01:48And now I say goodbye to you
01:54It's so hard
01:56It's so hard to find your way
02:00When the lions come around
02:06Still it happens every day
02:10So don't let it get you down
02:16It's just a time
02:20It's just a time
02:22Within a time
02:26Just a scheme
02:28Within a scheme
02:30A little world
02:34Within a world
02:36Just a dream
02:38Just a dream
02:40Just a dream
02:42Now I finally found my way
02:48Now I know just what to do
02:54Would you say goodbye to me
02:58Would you say goodbye to me
03:00Yeah
03:06And now I say goodbye to you
03:08And now I best be on my way
03:12Before the night turns blue
03:18Would you say goodbye to me
03:22Would you say goodbye to me
03:32Yeah
03:34And now I say goodbye to you
03:36Would you say goodbye to me
03:38Yeah
03:42And now I say goodbye to you
04:16This song is, it's kind of about the media in general, I guess.
04:31Edward R. Murrow was someone who pretty much was the embodiment of high standards in radio and television journalism in the 50s, 40s, I suppose, too, 50s and 60s.
04:48And when he retired, I think it was in 61, and I think he was quite ill at the time.
04:55He gave a speech basically talking about television and how it was, even back then, being used to sort of amuse and delude and kind of divert our attention from many real issues.
05:14And his warning in that speech was that if the people who ran television didn't try to strike a balance between what was on TV and to use it in a more incisive and deep way as well, that it would eventually seek its revenge, I think was the term.
05:38And it's interesting because that was in 1961, and it certainly hasn't gotten any better.
05:44In many ways, it's gotten much, much worse.
05:49So this was a song that I just imagined if Edward R. Murrow were to return and see what is on TV now and what in many cases passes for objective reportage, he would probably indeed be turning over in his grave.
06:06And that's the name of the song, Murrow turning over in his grave.
