00:00It's gonna be a problem for Mike McDaniel looking at the call cheat. He's gonna be going on one eye and Mike Tomlin no glasses is set to go. Dolphins won the toss. They won the ball. And D. Eskridge will return it for Miami.
00:16Kicks the brakes. Cuts up field and is brought down at the 27. And here comes Tua Tunga by Loa who is tired of hearing about this I'm sure. 0-5 in starts he's made in the NFL and the temperature at kickoff is 40 degrees or less and it's officially 17. There's no question he's tired of talking about it. And the only way to change that of course is to win a football game when it's cold and it's certainly cold enough tonight.
00:44Now the decision by Mike McDaniel to take the football after winning the coin toss. I like that the way that they've been able to run the football. We'll see if it pays off. But I like the aggressiveness here to open up the game. Devon A. Chan in the backfield injured his ribs in the first half last week. The play action and able to hit the tight end. And a nice catch and run after the catch by Julian Hill is 12th grab of the year. And a gain of 20 right out of the gate. Yeah. And right out of the gate they go with six offensive linemen which
01:14they have shown a lot of. But with the running game you see how everybody reacts to that. No one in the stadium thought that they would come out play action on on the first play of the game as efficient as they've been running the football. And you can see the effect that it had and how open he was.
01:2920 yards to start the night for this Dolphins offense.
01:39Big toss.
01:40And now swung out to A. Chan who ran into his fullback Engold.
01:46And on the play it is going to be a loss of one.
01:50Patrick Queen was there to force him out.
01:52And as we look at this offensive line their center is outstanding and has all the attention of Mike Tomlin on the other sideline.
02:00Aaron Brewer having a great season.
02:03We know about Tonga Valoa but he is trying to find A. Chan and Waddle and Washington and their tight end is Darren Waller.
02:11We've already seen a catch by Julian Hill.
02:13Second and 11.
02:14A. Chan over the right side.
02:22Tried to hurdle and got tripped up.
02:25Nick Herbig is out there.
02:27A gain of four.
02:29And third down coming up.
02:30Tell you Engold he's the fullback and he's just not quite able to make the block.
02:35Herbig gets just enough because boy they had a crease right out there on the outside of the perimeter of this defense.
02:42A. Chan he might have been out the gate if Herbig doesn't get just enough of him to trip him up.
02:48And A. Chan as fast as there is in the NFL at the running back position.
02:53He's averaging just under six yards a carry.
02:56Third down and seven.
03:04Play clock at one.
03:06Tonga Valoa trying to sneak out.
03:08Pass incomplete.
03:10It's fourth down.
03:11Waller the target.
03:13And pressure by Nick Herbig to force that early throw.
03:18It's fourth down.
03:19That's a good job by this Pittsburgh defense.
03:21On that third down there.
03:22No motions.
03:24No shifts.
03:25Which is a little unusual for the Miami Dolphins.
03:27They do as much of that as anybody in football.
03:30They just line up.
03:31Snap the football.
03:32And they roll coverage to that side.
03:35And just good job by this secondary.
03:37Which has gotten a lot better from when the season began.
03:40Joey Porter Jr.
03:41Was defending.
03:42His dad will be honored at halftime.
03:44Here at Akershire.
03:46As Bailey hits the punt.
03:49Austin lets it go over his head.
03:51And into the end zone for a touchback.
03:56Good effort.
04:00They need help.
04:01And they need to win out.
04:02To have any chance of getting into the postseason.
04:05They lose tonight.
04:05They're done.
04:07Play action from Rodgers.
04:09He is able to complete.
04:11That's Jonu Smith.
04:14Who came with Jalen Ramsey in that trade for Minka Fitzpatrick before the season.
04:19A gain of just one.
04:20And here are the numbers for Aaron Rodgers.
04:23The four-time NFL MVP.
04:26Pretty modest as far as Aaron Rodgers goes over the course of his career.
04:29But I think it's been a feel-and-out process with him and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
04:34As I talked about coming into this game, a much different look from what you would expect from Arthur Smith.
04:40But more along the lines of what we've seen from Aaron Rodgers over the years of his career.
04:45So a heavy influence on this offense.
04:52Kenneth Gainwell over the right side.
04:55And he gets hit and dumped.
04:57Play made by Rasul Douglas.
04:59Who's playing great at corner.
05:02And he steps up and.
05:04Fills that little gap out there on the edge.
05:07No gain on the play.
05:08And we will look at the offensive linemen for this Pittsburgh Steelers offense.
05:15And then the backs and receivers.
05:16We'll see Jalen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell.
05:19DK Metcalf is the big target on the outside.
05:23For Aaron Rodgers.
05:24It's third and long.
05:24He's not going to get it.
05:42Nice tackle is Douglas and Jordan Brooks.
05:46Who's having a tremendous season for the Dolphins.
05:49Got out there to make the stop.
05:51Yeah, really good job defensively by Miami.
05:54First of all, just the fact that they did not jump off sides.
05:57As we know, Aaron Rodgers, one of the best quarterbacks in the game at doing that.
06:01But it looked like once Gainwell had the ball in his hands that he was going to be able to pick that up.
06:06Rodgers thought so as well.
06:07But an excellent job by Jordan Brooks and Rasul Douglas.
06:12Jordan Brooks, he leads the NFL in tackles.
06:14And that was a big one to open up this game for them defensively.
06:17So the Steelers go three and out.
06:19Waitman hits the punt.
06:20High-hanging punt.
06:21Washington will stay away.
06:23And after two bounces, it's in his lap.
06:27And he returns it to the 30.
06:29Where Skoranek makes the tackle for the Steelers.
06:3348-yard punt.
06:34Seven-yard return.
06:35Second possession.
06:37Home of the Steelers right next to the home of the Pirates.
06:42No score.
06:43Second possession for the Dolphins.
06:48Hill in motion.
06:50And the handoff is to A-chan.
06:52And he hits the hole hard as he always does in a gain of six to start this possession.
06:58Yeah, he sure does.
06:59A-chan, I think if you were to time him in the first five to ten yards,
07:04he's got to be as explosive, if not more explosive, than any other backer in the game.
07:09It seems like he's at full speed as soon as he touches the football.
07:13And, of course, he's a home run threat each and every time.
07:17And he's had a heck of a year to begin with.
07:19He's averaging just under six yards.
07:21But at a time when everyone knows they are going to run the football because they've run it so well,
07:26his numbers are even better than they were to begin the year.
07:34Here he is again on the toss.
07:35He gets some blocking.
07:36And there he goes.
07:37Big play for A-chan.
07:39Got a good block from his pullback, Alec Ingold.
07:43And A-chan is pulled back up to his feet after a 14-yard gain.
07:48Alec Ingold.
07:50And then you've got the tight end here, Julian Moore, or Julian Hill, I'm sorry,
07:53who does an outstanding job that creates that space right there in the middle.
07:58And then Cedric Wilson is the one who's sealing it as well.
08:00So a coordinated effort by all three of those guys to allow this running room that A-chan is enjoying.
08:08He's had a lot of runs like that.
08:10He leads the NFL in runs of 10 yards or more as well as 20 yards or more.
08:14So, yeah, he can play the short game or the long game.
08:18They fake it to him.
08:19Pats over the middle to Waddle.
08:21Another first down for the Dolphins.
08:24Quick throw from Tua.
08:26And Tonga Valoa completes it 4-11.
08:28Well, over the years when we've watched Tua Tonga Valoa, this is what he has done so well.
08:33The timed passing game of Mike McDaniel and the speed of Jalen Waddle.
08:38You see how he gets to his second read.
08:39He's reading out to his right to begin with.
08:42And with the coverage, it opens up.
08:43The timing's perfect.
08:45Coming right back to him.
08:46And they certainly missed Tyreek Hill.
08:49But Jalen Waddle, well, he's as fun to watch as any receiver in football.
08:53Working on the shoes of A-Chan on the sideline.
08:59So, Ollie Gordon is in the game.
09:01Tyreek Hill went down in week four.
09:04Here is a shot for Waddle.
09:05Underthrown and picked off by Asante Samuel.
09:09Samuels' neck surgery last spring.
09:25Looking for a new team.
09:28And he's landed with the Steelers.
09:30He's in his third game.
09:32First start.
09:33And he makes his presence felt.
09:35An underthrow by Tonga Valoa.
09:36And an early turnover.
09:38Steeler ball.
09:40No score.
09:42Valoa.
09:43We saw the good with that good throw over the middle on the completion to Waddle.
09:47And then it's backed up with that floater that gets picked up by Asante Samuel Jr.
09:52And it's Steelers ball at their own 19.
09:55Eight's coming.
09:58158.
09:59158.
10:02He called out Judon saying he was coming on a blitz.
10:05Judon did not.
10:06The ball comes out.
10:07But Warren was down.
10:10In a gain of six.
10:13And let's go back to the interception thrown by Tonga Valoa.
10:16Yeah.
10:16Here's the route to Jalen Waddle.
10:18He's going to run a corner route.
10:19And it's first this rolled corner with safety help.
10:22And there's no one in the flat to hold Asante Samuel here.
10:27And that's why Asante Samuel can then fall under that route.
10:31But Tua's got to know that.
10:32And he's been in this league long enough to know there's nothing holding the corner.
10:36But these are throws that we have seen from Tua throughout the season.
10:41Here's Warren getting the handoff.
10:43And he's going to be a yard short of the first down after a gain of three.
10:48It's a little bit of a head scratcher.
10:50And even as they've run the football better.
10:53And he's only throwing the ball 21 times a game during this four-game win streak.
10:58So they haven't really asked him to do a lot.
11:01And yet there still are those types of throws where you're just not quite sure what it is
11:06that he's seen or not seen.
11:08But I know Dolphins fans have seen a lot of this now that he leads the league with 15 interceptions.
11:12And they've got Hayward under center.
11:18Hayward's got six carries on the year.
11:20And they're all quarterback's name.
11:21And here he is carrying it.
11:24And it's close.
11:24Looks like he's short.
11:26Right down to Connor Hayward.
11:30Six carries, 11 yards on the year.
11:33And this one comes up just short.
11:35It's fourth down.
11:37On his seventh carry of the season, it's fourth in inches.
11:41Yeah, I'm old school.
11:43I would punt.
11:47He was five for six on third or fourth and one.
11:51And he stopped here.
11:53Analytics says go.
11:54And they are going to go.
11:55At least line up with Hayward again.
11:59They go.
12:00And he got it.
12:02First down Pittsburgh.
12:04As Hayward is able to get up over the top a bit and get a first down for the Steelers.
12:11This defense, we talked about it earlier, how much improvement we've seen from Anthony Weaver and his group.
12:17And it has coincided with the run game improvement from the Miami Dolphins.
12:24And that does not come as a surprise to me.
12:26I think if you look around the league, over the years, the teams that run the ball effectively generally play pretty good defense along with it.
12:35Anthony Weaver trying to figure out a way to slow down Rodgers here tonight after that big game at Baltimore.
12:42He has to come underneath.
12:44He's able to hit Gainwell.
12:46And Gainwell got smacked.
12:47No gain on the play.
12:49And these Dolphins defenders are making some tackles on the edges as Melifonwu made that stop.
12:54I think Anthony Weaver's done a nice job as far as mixing the looks.
13:00They're going to drop in.
13:00And you get the single coverage.
13:02And last week, you know, Aaron Rodgers, when they single up D.K. Metcalf, he's going to take his shots.
13:06But they're showing it a little bit late.
13:08They've been doing that the last couple of possessions and trying to change the look and the picture for Aaron Rodgers so that he can't get a beat.
13:16Because last week, he took advantage of some of those looks against Baltimore and brought the deep ball back into this offense.
13:25Rodgers really working a hard count tonight.
13:28Dolphins have not bitten.
13:29And there's D.K. Metcalf.
13:33As the ball is into Miami territory and a completion of 21 yards after a 7-catch, 148-yard day against the Ravens.
13:43Well, really good job.
13:45Jonu Smith is going to come in here.
13:47And this holds Tyrell Dodson, the linebacker.
13:50And so it allows D.K. Metcalf then.
13:52You see that window that opens up right here in the middle for D.K. Metcalf to get into.
13:57And as soon as Rodgers sees that with that two-deep safety look, that ball's coming in a hurry.
14:01And D.K. Metcalf catches it right in stride.
14:04Boy, that release by Rodgers hasn't changed at all.
14:07Oh, yeah.
14:07That looked like a 20-year-old Rodgers there.
14:10On first down, Warren gets it.
14:13And almost broke it.
14:16Hanging on for dear life was Ashton Davis and a gain of five on the play.
14:21And it's a good point that you bring up, Joe, because when you watch Aaron, really, over the last few years,
14:25his last year in Green Bay, last year in New York, and then this year with Pittsburgh,
14:30he really has not gotten the ball down the field as much.
14:34And he's had to rely more on just getting it out of his hands quickly.
14:39And that tends to happen with quarterbacks as they get up there in age.
14:43So he hasn't had a lot of intermediate-type throws like what we just saw out of D.K. Metcalf.
14:48319!
14:49Make the throw, hand to Warren, gets to the edge.
14:55And tripped up in another strong tackle.
14:57This time it's Jack Jones.
14:59Well, these corners for Miami, they're really showing something.
15:02We saw Russell Douglas.
15:04He's made a couple tackles already in this game.
15:06And then in the open field, Jack Jones, he comes up.
15:10These are hard tackles to make on a back like Warren.
15:13And you're out in the open field one-on-one.
15:15He's trying to give him a little shake and make a miss.
15:18And Jones has really helped them.
15:21Rodgers, I don't think he's so upset with Warren and not making Jones miss.
15:26It's something to do on the sidelines.
15:28He must not be getting the plays the way he wants them.
15:32They're down to three.
15:33Quick set-up and throw.
15:35Pass is low and no good.
15:37And it's incomplete for Calvin Austin.
15:40Rodgers had him and could not get it to him.
15:42And now on fourth down and three, the offense will stay out there for Mike Tomlin.
15:46Yeah, I think if you look at it and you say,
15:48well, they went forward a moment ago on fourth and inches backed up,
15:52that where they are right here, this is,
15:56I don't want to say a no-brainer, but it kind of is,
15:58based on where they are on the field.
16:02Don't forget about the hard count from Aaron Rodgers.
16:05He's been working at a lot tonight already.
16:08They go quick.
16:10And a completion out on the edge.
16:14That's Gainwell.
16:15And that's a first down.
16:18And anybody waiting around for the hard count,
16:20they might have been surprised because the Steelers went in a blink and a gain of eight.
16:24Well, watch Marquez Valdez-Scantling and how he gets the rub that allows
16:29Kenneth Gainwell then to get out in the flat uncontested.
16:32And Gainwell, quite honestly, you look at this offense this year and what they've been able to do,
16:37he's been as valuable as any player on this team offensively.
16:41And he's been a huge part of the passing game.
16:45And I know Aaron Rodgers loves throwing him the football and loves having him as a teammate.
16:49And he's brought down with a loss on the play of one as Jordan Brooks made the stop.
16:57Gainwell, four years in Philadelphia, won a ring with the Eagles last year, a fifth-round pick in 2021.
17:04And he's now backing up Jalen Warren, where Jalen Warren, for three years,
17:09backed up Najee Harris, who left and went out to the Chargers.
17:13I always like Gainwell.
17:14Going back to when he was with the Eagles, I always thought he was a tough, tough runner.
17:19And he's found a real opportunity here.
17:22You look at that running back position.
17:24They run the ball okay, but their biggest contributions have really been in the passing game.
17:30Rodgers slings it out to Warren.
17:32And a hit by Chop Robinson.
17:38No gain on the play.
17:40Jack Jones, the first guy there.
17:41And then Chop Robinson made that stop.
17:45It'll be third down and long as a result.
17:47Well, Chop Robinson, last year's first-round pick, he comes in and finishes him off.
17:52Does a good job after Jack Jones kind of gets him off balance.
17:56But, boy, you watch this defense and really this team in general,
18:00a team that began the year one and six, and as hard as they have played from that moment on,
18:05on this four-game win streak, that's the type of defense we've been watching.
18:09Hard count doesn't work again.
18:15Third and 11, Rodgers in trouble, and down he goes.
18:19And out of field goal range are the Steelers as Jordan Brooks is up to three and a half sacks for the year.
18:27A loss of 10, and that is how the first quarter will come to a close.
18:32Steelers move in the football.
18:37On third and 11, Jordan Brooks gets the sack.
18:41Second quarter coming up from Pittsburgh and Dallas, Chicago, Green Bay,
18:46all of them that have been able to host it.
18:48What a great treat.
18:50Springtime for all of those cities rather than have it in New York City every year.
18:56Waitman hits it.
18:57Washington lets it go over his head and into the end zone.
19:04Dolphins' ball, still no score.
19:10I'm not an elf.
19:13It's just a net of 22 yards of field position.
19:17And so the Dolphins start at their 20.
19:19You know what else you're going to like about the draft?
19:21What's that?
19:21They are going to knock two minutes off the clock between picks in the first round.
19:28Here's a handoff to Jalen Wright, and he doesn't get much.
19:32Stood up.
19:33Patrick Queen was in there.
19:34He gained him two.
19:36Go back and take a look at some of the interceptions that we've seen from Tua Tungabailoa.
19:40This was week one and how the season began.
19:44And some of the looks that Dolphins fans have been watching.
19:48Big game there, week three against the Buffalo Bills.
19:51And then, of course, the one we saw tonight with Asante Samuel.
19:55But just not quite seeing the field.
19:58And I know in visiting with him the other day, he talked about it.
20:00He said this has not played up to the standard that he has for himself.
20:04But he also knows that if they are, by chance, going to get in, they're going to need a little
20:10more out of help.
20:11Here is Waller who gets that pass on a slow-developing play, but ends up getting knocked out of bounds
20:18right at the line to gain.
20:20And they're going to give him a first down, and we go down to Laura.
20:23Well, Joe, just a quick observation.
20:25Earlier in the game, Tua was not putting a jacket on on the sideline or doing much to stay warm.
20:29After the interception, very intentional about staying warmer with a jacket on and also keeping
20:35his left hand, of course, his throwing hand as warm as possible.
20:38Yeah, Laura, he went to high school in Honolulu, went to college in Alabama, took his talents
20:44to South Beach, and now he's playing on a 17-degree night in Pittsburgh.
20:49As A-chan bounces over the left side, a nice gain on first down as he picks up five in Alex
20:54Heisman.
20:55Here is a give to H-chan on second down and five, a gain of three.
21:04Talk about the numbers as Patrick Queen starts to mix it up a little bit.
21:08Tua has thrown for below 175 yards per game during this four-game win streak.
21:16And they have featured the ground game and coming off a 241-yard rush day in that win at the
21:24Jets last week.
21:25Third down and two.
21:26Tunga Bailoa is going to get in with his legs or try to, and on the slide may have come
21:47up half yard short, and he did.
21:50He had a shot at it, but when he went down, Patrick Queen was there for Pittsburgh, but
21:58they mark him down short on the slide of first down yardage.
22:04Yeah, right.
22:06That's a good call there by the official.
22:09I mean, as soon as you start the slide, there's the hit.
22:11It looked like maybe he got the face mask in real time, but I don't think so.
22:15There should not have been anything called there.
22:18Nope.
22:18Just a hand touched the helmet.
22:19Not a foul.
22:20Good.
22:21It's all for short.
22:21Moment ago, Pittsburgh went for it on fourth and less than one from their own 28.
22:26Right now, the Dolphins are lining up for a punt.
22:30And a delay of game.
22:36Delay of game.
22:38Offense.
22:39Five-yard penalty.
22:40Still forced out.
22:41Well, any idea of going for it goes out the window of that delay of game, so the punt
22:45will be forthcoming from Jake Bailey.
22:48Yeah, it does now.
22:49And, you know, we talk about it from time to time, Joe, when you're talking about a team
22:53who isn't eliminated, but they're close in the Miami Dolphins.
22:57And we saw Pittsburgh go for it in a similar situation, and yet Mike McDaniel chooses to
23:03punt, which is what he was going to do prior to the delay of game penalty.
23:09Bailey, Bailey, Bailey just got rid of it.
23:12Now that Austin gets hit hard and somehow is able to hang on.
23:20A 36-yard punt.
23:22And they're well covered downfield.
23:26Isaiah Johnson just added from the practice squad.
23:31It's his third game back.
23:33It's his third game back.
23:33It was 58!
23:34It was 58!
23:35Warren in the backfield behind him.
23:38Toss to Warren.
23:39Has a crease.
23:40Nice cutback.
23:41There is a flag down back inside the 30.
23:49And it's coming back.
23:55Holy offense number 81.
23:5810-yard penalty.
23:59You play first down.
24:00It's against the tight end, Jonu Smith, who is guilty of the hold and obviously doesn't agree.
24:08Let's see.
24:09Yeah, number 81.
24:10He's right here.
24:11We'll take a look.
24:12And they were certainly able to create the crease.
24:17I don't see a whole lot in that one.
24:20But here on this shot, you can see the left hand does grab the shoulder pad.
24:23Good call for a hold.
24:25So instead of being across the 50 at the Miami 47, it's now first and 20 with the ball back at the 19.
24:41That is Thielen over the middle.
24:43And we'll go down to Lisa.
24:44Yeah, Joe, like you said, Aaron Rodgers broke his left wrist in three places back in Week 11.
24:50And just a few moments ago, he took a couple of shots to that left wrist on their last possession.
24:56Initially, when he came back from the injury, he was wearing a hard cast.
24:59Last week, he wore a softer one with some reinforcements around the fracture site.
25:03That allowed him to go into center.
25:04This week, even left, just a brace on it.
25:08And he, in that brace, able to find Big Darnell Washington,
25:12who just will not go down.
25:17A gain of 10 for a tight end that is massive.
25:21He is 6'7", listed at 264.
25:25But the Steelers tell us he is well north of 300 pounds.
25:28Yeah, well north of 300 pounds.
25:31He's like a left tackle who's able to get out and catch the football.
25:35He's been more involved here over the last several weeks.
25:38He's gotten most of the receiving targets at the tight end position.
25:41It's like throwing the ball to Shaquille O'Neal out there.
25:44I mean, this guy is just about as big a tight end as you'll ever see play the game.
25:49And yet, he has the ability to run.
25:52I mean, he's a unique talent.
25:54They're down in three.
25:56Rodgers.
25:56Time runs out, and Seeler got him.
26:02So, the last couple of possessions have ended on a sack.
26:08First one by Jordan Brooks.
26:09This one by Zach Seeler.
26:11Well, Seeler's able to get home, but you're going to see that Darnell Washington and D.K. Metcalf at the top of this route, it's confusing as to what's happening there in the middle of the field.
26:21And Rodgers is ready to turn it loose, but those two guys were right in the same area, and he's not able to.
26:26And by the time he put it down, Seeler was there making the sack.
26:31Steelers, three possessions, three punts.
26:34This one checks up outside the 30.
26:36And Aaron Rodgers, who's been sacked more than any quarterback since they were starting to record sacks, gets sacked here.
26:47Chin strap off, helmet to the ground, Dolphins' ball, no score.
26:55Good little bit.
26:57Hey, Howie, that's a compliment.
26:59Come on.
26:59It is.
27:00It's supposed to be Mike.
27:02Hey, Mike.
27:03We should all look as good as Howie.
27:08Don't try to make up for it.
27:10A channel to the right side gets four.
27:12That's the truth.
27:15There he is.
27:16There he is.
27:20Young Howie Long.
27:26Second down and six for Mike McDaniel's offense.
27:33The crowd tries to get into it.
27:48Tunga Valoa keeps it.
27:50Looking for Dulcich at first and now just has to throw it away.
27:54Dulcich was out there, but he was well covered, and Tunga Valoa had nowhere to go with it.
27:59Well, he did a good job of holding it.
28:01You're going to see as he comes out off of this play fake, he was about to turn it loose,
28:06and Pittsburgh had read it, and they were about to jump it right in the middle.
28:10So he wisely threw it away.
28:13But going back to Mike McDaniel when visiting with him, he said his roots never left him.
28:18And he was the run game coordinator in San Francisco, and, of course, he cut his teeth with Mike Shanahan
28:25and the Denver Broncos.
28:27So the run game has always been a big part of who he is, but it hasn't been until this year
28:33we've really got a glimpse of it with the Miami Dolphins.
28:37They're down and six.
28:38Pressure off the edge.
28:39Tunga Valoa out to his left.
28:41Finds his man in a first down as he gets it to A-Chan.
28:46And a nice throw on the move by Tua Tunga Valoa, 24 yards,
28:51and the first third down conversion by either team in the game.
28:55Well, talk about the impact that A-Chan has had in the passing game.
28:59You're going to watch this route and where he comes from,
29:02and this is some of the creativity that you see from this offense and Mike McDaniel.
29:07They bring people from a lot of different directions.
29:09They give a lot of different looks, and it's rare when you see a running back
29:13come all the way from the backfield, around the right side,
29:17get back into the vision of the quarterback,
29:19and catch the football at the intermediate level.
29:23Ali Gordon now in the backfield.
29:26He gets it, follows the fullback Engel,
29:29and ends up picking four where Malik Harrison made the stop.
29:32This is an offense here tonight, and really most of the time,
29:36that they use a lot of different personnel groupings,
29:39and they've used a bunch just in the first 15 plays of this ball game.
29:44They'll go two back.
29:45They'll go extra offensive linemen, three running backs,
29:47and they mix it up pretty good,
29:49and it really is a pleasure to watch what Mike McDaniel does.
29:55He used to do it within the passing game the first two years,
29:58and now he's taken that, and he's done some of the things
30:01that we saw at one time back when he was with the 49ers.
30:03Second down and six, A-Chan cuts it back.
30:06There have been nine different personnel groupings here
30:09for Mike McDaniel's offense,
30:11and we've still got six minutes left in the half.
30:14Four different ball carriers, four different receivers
30:17that have touched the football, a gain of five here,
30:21and now Ali Gordon comes back in, and A-Chan to the sideline.
30:25Well, one of the things they like to do,
30:27watch when these offensive linemen break the huddle
30:29and the way that they sprint to the line of scrimmage,
30:31and Mike McDaniel likes to give looks
30:33that defenses just aren't accustomed to watching.
30:36I mean, they get up to the line.
30:37They don't waste any time, and off they go.
30:41It's a pretty precise run group.
30:48Gordon met and dropped in the backfield by Patrick Queen.
30:52And up the line, Gordon.
30:55My number six entry.
30:57And a loss of three on the play.
31:01It's fourth down, and Riley Patterson comes out as a result.
31:07Well, Patrick Queen, when he can run and hit,
31:09there's not a lot of linebackers in this league
31:12that aren't going to make this play,
31:13and he just has a free run with no blockers contesting him,
31:18and he gets to Gordon before Gordon ever even really gets
31:21the ball in his hands.
31:23And Gordon's slow to get up.
31:25He's getting up right now.
31:26He is a big back, 6'2", 225, and Patrick Queen able to...
31:32He's a little different back than what we're accustomed to seeing,
31:37at least from the other two.
31:38Here's another look at the end of that play
31:40as they're walking him off the field
31:44and was wondering whether or not Mike McDaniel might go for it here,
31:48or what is this, 54 yards.
31:52And he's going to try to come away with three points.
31:55Well, Riley Patterson hit his career-long 53 yards last week at the Jets,
31:59and on this cold night in a place that's historically tough to kick,
32:0454-yard try.
32:05High snap kick is good.
32:18And Patterson has in Florida.
32:21We have points here in Pittsburgh.
32:22He's got the feeling that Kyle Pitts would have a big night.
32:26Guy that loves the state of Florida.
32:29Here's a short kick and...
32:33Short free kick.
32:34Kicking team number 47.
32:36First down at the 40-yard line.
32:38That means the ball goes to the 40.
32:41And we'll send it down to Laura.
32:43Well, something to watch here, Joe.
32:45It's been interesting.
32:46The Miami defense is thrilled with the way they've gotten to Aaron Rodgers in this game,
32:49but they're careful to get complacent
32:51because of the way that he can change up the hard count throughout.
32:55They're warning of that down here.
32:56I'm curious, Troy, what you think about the way that Rodgers can affect a defense like that.
33:01Well, it's pretty remarkable, Laura, watching him over the years.
33:04Anyone who has understands how good he is at drawing the defense offside.
33:08And then getting their shots.
33:09And we've heard it through the field, Mike.
33:11And he's been unable to affect this group for Miami.
33:14Here's a nice start.
33:15Johnny Smith broke a tackle.
33:18And then gets to tell the Miami sideline how good that play was.
33:24It's a first down for the Steelers.
33:26And that was strong by the former Miami Dolphins.
33:29Yeah, exactly.
33:30Gets a chance to talk a little bit to some of his former teammates
33:34and certainly his former coach.
33:36And, you know, a guy who came off of career highs last year while with the Dolphins.
33:41And this has been a little bit different.
33:43A little bit different this year when you're playing in an Arthur Smith coached offense.
33:49Hasn't had quite the same amount of opportunities.
33:51I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't.
33:55Let's go, let's go.
33:55Dolphins, Dolphins, Dolphins.
33:56Cherry Mason.
33:58Late clock at one.
34:00Warren will try the right side and a decent gain.
34:03Johnny Smith, just to put numbers to it, 88 catches, 884 yards in a Pro Bowl season for the Dolphins last year.
34:09And again, he came to Pittsburgh with Jalen Ramsey, who's now playing safety on the defense for Minka Fitzpatrick,
34:17who started his career in Miami, and now he's back.
34:20We haven't gotten into Jalen Ramsey, who made the transition to free safety a few weeks back.
34:27And he is, he is really something back there playing safety.
34:31He's a guy that, he could have been an all-pro safety if he had begun playing safety earlier in his career rather than corner when he went to Jacksonville.
34:40Wide open is Darnell Washington, and he will rumble for a first down.
34:47Ashton Davis couldn't bring him down, and it's a 13-yard pickup for big number 80s.
34:53Well, Aaron Rodgers loves this run-pass option.
34:56He's reading the outside right here, and as soon as he collapses, he knows he's got big Darnell Washington out there in the flat for an easy pickup.
35:05Go back to when Rodgers was with the Green Bay Packers.
35:08They ran a lot of these types of things.
35:10He's good at it, and he's able to read the right people and find the right receivers.
35:15Very effective.
35:16Three minutes to go in the half.
35:23Rodgers protected Gainwell.
35:26Laser from Aaron Rodgers.
35:28And Gainwell is out of bounds.
35:31Right at the line to gain, and they're going to give him a first down.
35:36Well, I thought Rodgers was going to take a shot up the seam.
35:40It looked like it was Adam Thielen who was running up the seam, and he's got a chance right here.
35:45And the only guy who can kind of stop it is the free safety.
35:49And that's one typically that Rodgers will shoot right up that seam on an easy pickup.
35:55Nevertheless, not bad coming underneath and getting a new set of down.
35:58Extra offensive lineman Spencer Anderson, big number 74, is in there.
36:02And Pittsburgh calls a timeout.
36:05Had a chance to talk to Adam Thielen before the game down on the field.
36:13And he was talking about now being in a huddle with Aaron Rodgers.
36:19Now realize that Adam Thielen's in his 12th year.
36:21He's been around, been with the Vikings organization twice.
36:25Been a tremendous...
36:26No helter-skelter at all from the quarterback.
36:31And he's just been blown away by his presence in the huddle.
36:34Well, that has an impact on the teammates, no doubt.
36:36And Thielen last week had just one reception.
36:40But I know Rodgers was thrilled to get him in the lineup along with Marquez Valdez scantling
36:45because of their veteran experience.
36:47Here's a toss to Gainwell on first down, and he turned that into something.
36:52He was able to get out of bounds and a nice gain on first down.
36:56Forced out by Jones, but a gain of four.
36:58And to follow up with what I was saying, and I think some of the frustration this year for Aaron Rodgers
37:03has been just some of the young players that they've had.
37:07And there's been too many mental mistakes, guys not being where they're supposed to be.
37:11And as a veteran quarterback, you know, that's what you're looking for.
37:14And teams have rolled, then, coverage to DK Metcalf.
37:17They just haven't been able to take advantage other than going to Gainwell.
37:20So, who knows, maybe over tonight, the next few weeks, maybe we'll see these veterans,
37:26Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdez-Scantling, get more opportunity.
37:30That was him on the sideline.
37:31The good thing with Aaron is you just never know, right?
37:34You never know when mistakes are made around you.
37:39Well, we love you, Aaron.
37:40I was kind of that way.
37:43I've seen.
37:44I have Instagram, too.
37:46Second and six when we come back.
37:47Two minutes left in the half in Pittsburgh.
37:50Those pants, he's got, they're pants that match that coat.
37:55And he's wearing them right now.
37:56Second and six.
38:01Both backs in there.
38:03Rogers looks left, drops it off to Gainwell, looking for a block.
38:06He got a block from Zach Frazier, the center.
38:09It'll be third and one.
38:12A gain of five.
38:13Yeah, pretty good design play there.
38:15They run one out to the left.
38:18Jalen Warren, and then get the ball back into Gainwell with the screen the opposite side.
38:22Dolphins take a timeout.
38:26Premium bundle now.
38:29And it's...
38:31There you go.
38:33That's a bundle of joy coming your way this holiday season.
38:37I don't want to say what it looks like.
38:42You look rightfully frightened with me leading the way.
38:45Very much so.
38:47I've seen more plays in the spirit here.
38:51Third down and one.
38:52They took their cue from our man Dave Moulton last week when he was...
38:57Yeah.
38:58Sully.
38:58Sully.
39:00More traditionally dressed in this week 15 tilt.
39:06Third down and one.
39:07Toss to Warren.
39:18He didn't get it.
39:20Now it's fourth down and now the decision.
39:23Timeout by Miami.
39:25Douglas and Fitzpatrick are going to combine for that stop.
39:30And we'll see what Mike Tomlin wants to do.
39:33I'll tell you, you watch this defense and a big part of the improvement from this group
39:41has been the play of their defensive front.
39:45And just being able to hold their own and then let the guys come up and make a play for the stop.
39:49But it's been a stingy bunch as this season has gone along.
39:53And a lot of it has been the development of some of their young rookies.
39:57Steelers are now 0 for 6 on third down in this half.
40:01And that was the first time Jalen Warren had been stopped on third or fourth and one.
40:05It was 9 for 9 prior to that.
40:10Dolphins have made four stops on third and three or less.
40:14And Anthony Weaver.
40:17Well, they're not going to run the quarterback draw with Aaron Rodgers anyway.
40:21Now they'll get Hayward in there.
40:22Hayward's back in at quarterback with the snap.
40:25And he got it.
40:27Two for three in tonight's game.
40:29They blow that play dead.
40:32This is going to be a first down for the Steelers with the ball inside the 15.
40:37You know, when you watch this Tush Push version of the Pittsburgh Steelers,
40:42and I always love watching Aaron Rodgers.
40:44This is what he does on every one of them.
40:46I mean, he's not even waiting to see if the ball comes out.
40:49You know, like in a defensive mode.
40:51He just kind of is the observer.
40:54Yeah, look at him.
40:55I mean, that's about as cool as it gets.
41:01I mean, he's like in charge of oversight.
41:04Yeah, it's every time.
41:05I mean, normally you'd at least be in like a shortstop or shortstop stance in case the ball comes out.
41:10But Aaron's got one hand in his pocket.
41:14Old gunslinger that he is.
41:20They finally move the chains.
41:22It is a first down.
41:24Dolphins are out of timeouts.
41:26A minute 28 to go.
41:28In a three-point game.
41:30See what the Steelers are.
41:36Eighth in the league in red zone touchdown percentage.
41:40They've been down there 39 times.
41:43Come away with 25 touchdowns.
41:45Spencer Anderson, big number 74, back in there.
41:48An extra offensive lineman.
41:50And Rodgers back under center.
41:57Rodgers has all day.
42:00Gainwell, he found him.
42:02And now Gainwell is out of bounds near another first down.
42:08Jack Jones made the stop.
42:10And that's going to set up first and goal.
42:12You see Aaron Rodgers.
42:13It's pretty good.
42:14They go big people.
42:15And then the play action.
42:17And there's just nothing down the field for Rodgers.
42:20But he knows exactly where Gainwell is.
42:22And Gainwell being the smart veteran running back that he is.
42:25Once he gets over to the boundary, he just stays there and waits.
42:28And Rodgers knew exactly where he had to go when time ran out.
42:32Turned into a really positive play.
42:34File this away as you see the first down being picked up.
42:37Spencer Anderson, the extra offensive lineman, ran a route.
42:39On that first down play.
42:44Here's a little push to Gainwell.
42:46And there is nothing there.
42:47It might be a face mask.
42:49Brooks.
42:49And Gainwell, it is a call against the Dolphins.
42:57That will move it half the distance to the goal line.
43:01And it's Jordan Brooks who gets a hold of the face mask of Kenneth Gainwell.
43:07First of all, face mask.
43:09Defense number 20.
43:10Pass it to the goal.
43:12First down.
43:13What a follow-up on what you said, Joe.
43:15Spencer Anderson, you mentioned that Aaron Rodgers makes sure they get the call.
43:21Spencer Anderson, yeah, he ran a route.
43:23He's figuring, you know, Darnell Washington going back to the big tight end.
43:26He's bigger than Spencer Anderson.
43:30So he's saying, hey, if Darnell Washington can run routes, why can't I?
43:33And I bet they've been competing against each other in practice during the week.
43:38Spencer does have a catch this year.
43:40Not out there at the moment.
43:44Here's Big Darnell.
43:45Red wins.
43:45Number 80.
43:46Red wins.
43:47Red wins.
43:48Red wins.
43:49I'd run behind him.
43:51He's 25.
43:54Terrible.
43:57Warren.
43:58He's down.
43:59Short of the goal line.
44:01He'll move it inside the one.
44:04Second and goal.
44:04And the clock runs.
44:08Remember, the Dolphins are out of timeouts.
44:14Yeah, good job.
44:15You see that he's down.
44:16And they put Darnell Washington over there to the right side here.
44:19And then he's going to come and crack block on this guy.
44:21And that's who Warren's trying to get in behind.
44:24Right.
44:26Right.
44:26Right.
44:27Right.
44:27No, no, no.
44:29Move.
44:30Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:31Move.
44:32Move.
44:32Move.
44:33Move.
44:33Move.
44:33Move.
44:35Move.
44:38Move.
44:39Back to Warren.
44:40He got met in the backfield and did not get in again.
44:44Jordan Brooks.
44:45And now third down and goal.
44:49Well, they come back with the same play, Joe.
44:52And they're trying to get Darnell Washington across.
44:54And he's just not able to make the block.
44:57I mean, he's not able to get to him.
44:59And just a great play by Jordan Brooks.
45:02Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok
45:32first rushing touchdown of the year for Connor Hayward
45:42and the first third down conversion for the Steelers in the half.
45:48Yeah, they're getting pretty good at this play as well.
45:51Seen them have success with it here tonight.
45:53They've had success with it in other games.
45:55And there's Aaron Rodgers doing his thing.
46:02Extra point is good.
46:06So Connor Hayward gets his first career rushing touchdown.
46:11And big Darnell Washington was behind to push him home.
46:17Fourth carry of the night for Hayward.
46:20Having won four in a row, five of six to get the early takeaway on the interception.
46:26They've done a pretty good job on the ground game here tonight.
46:30That's where the Dolphins have been making most of their yards coming in.
46:33Yeah, they really have.
46:34I mean, this was the Dolphins offense that has been running the football better than anybody
46:38in the game over the last several weeks.
46:40And this Steelers defense, you know, they've been kind of looking their wounds over the
46:44last couple of games, giving up over 200 yards in each of those that they've held up.
46:49Now, the Dolphins have been limited on their snaps.
46:51They only have 19 offensive snaps here in this first half.
46:54And only five first downs.
46:56That was a really good drive by the Steelers.
46:58As you look at the numbers for the quarterback so far tonight, basically through a half.
47:08Here's a handoff to H.N.
47:12And that'll do it.
47:14By the way, Ollie Gordon, his backup is questionable to return with an ankle injury.
47:20And we are through a half of play.
47:22And that man has been busy.
47:24Connor Hayward with a touchdown carry for the go-ahead points a moment ago.
47:317-3 Steelers after a half.
47:34Stay tuned.
47:35All-State halftime comes your way next.
47:39Here over the last five, six games.
47:41But in a game like this with the Steelers, as you mentioned, Joe, playing as well as they
47:46are against their running game, yeah, they're going to have to be able to make some plays
47:49throwing the football.
47:50Steelers have Warren and Gainwell, their two backs, waiting for this kick.
48:02It'll be Warren near the five.
48:06Tripped up.
48:07Knocked down at the 29.
48:09Coming out after halftime moments ago, Laura caught up with Mike McDaniel.
48:15Thanks, Joe.
48:16Mike, what do you want to see improve offensively in the second half?
48:19Well, I think we need to sustain drives.
48:21There's a, it's been a little herky-jerky.
48:23They're doing a good job making us earn it.
48:26So we're going to have to go execute.
48:27It's probably going to take every, every possession of execution and it'll probably come down to
48:34the wire.
48:35And when it comes to your defense, how can they continue to affect Aaron Rodgers?
48:38Well, I think, you know, we need to do a good job on special teams, make sure they have
48:41the whole field to earn and then they just need to control the line of scrimmage and take
48:47advantage of those third downs.
48:48All right, thank you, Mike.
48:49Thank you.
48:49Joe.
48:50All right, Laura, from the 29 on first down, a handoff is to Warren.
48:55He was iffy a couple of days ago, showed up on the injury report with an illness, but
49:01he's looked pretty good here tonight.
49:03Get six to start this possession.
49:04Yeah, that's a, that is a good start for them because when you look at this first half,
49:08Miami's defense, they held Pittsburgh's run game to under two yards of carry.
49:12So to come out here on the opening play of the third quarter and pick up six yards and
49:17get out ahead of the chains.
49:18Can't say enough about the job Anthony Weaver and his defenses has done here down the stretch.
49:23And they were kind of trying to find themselves a little bit, just like their offense and
49:28through a good part of this season.
49:31But they have, they have played solid football.
49:40Lane handoff, Warren again, able to push the pile.
49:44And he is just short of first down yardage as we check in with Lisa.
49:47Yeah, Joe.
49:48I just spoke to Mark Tomlin who said they came into this game wanting to slow down Miami's
49:52run game.
49:53I mean, he's pleased with the way his defense is playing.
49:55He said, we're getting off the field on third down.
49:58We're possessing the ball.
50:00Our time of possession, we've owned that definitively.
50:02He said, now on the offensive end, we've just got to convert some off, some off their downs.
50:07And he said, we'll win the game.
50:08Yeah, right on cue, Lisa, as they hand it to Jalen Warren three straight times and get
50:13a first down.
50:13Yeah, and that's a good point because really both these defenses did a pretty good job on
50:17third down.
50:18That's for Pittsburgh.
50:19That's just their second conversion on third down in this game, all set up by the six
50:25yard run on first down by Jalen Warren to start to get this third quarter.
50:33Warren out.
50:35Gainwell in.
50:37Quick snap.
50:38Gainwell finds a little room over the right side.
50:42Survived a hit.
50:44And out of bounds.
50:46See where they're marking near the 20 after Ashton Davis bounced off him trying to make
50:54a tackle.
50:55Yeah, it just didn't wrap up.
50:56And you see a lot of this form around the league.
51:00Here's a look at Ashton Davis.
51:01He's the safety who's dropping in.
51:03And he's right there in position.
51:05And they've been good throughout the first half in tackling in the open field.
51:09But with Ashton Davis coming up, and he's the guy who's got to be able to make that play.
51:15And that's what these safeties are there for.
51:17And he's just not able to.
51:18And it turns into a huge game.
51:20They are going to assist and move the ball back two yards to the 22.
51:25You saw Gainwell, after getting the handoff, almost tripped at the line of scrimmage as
51:29it is.
51:30He ends up carrying it for 38 yards.
51:33That's the longest play of the night for either side.
51:36And you see the rush offense the last three games.
51:41We're going, we're going.
51:42319.
51:44Ground attack has been ground to a halt coming into tonight.
51:48Here's another good run by Gainwell.
51:51Broke a tackle in the backfield and turned that into a three-yard pickup.
51:55Yeah, that should have been a loss because Jack Jones, he's the one like Ashton.
