00:00He's one of our glue guys, and those are guys who usually don't get a lot of credit, but you put them in a position to make plays, and they just continue to take advantage of those opportunities, and Eric Wilson, I mean, throughout his career, he's been the epitome of a glue guy.
00:116 of 14 on 4th down this year.
00:20Wanted him to move, did Lamar Jackson, and the timeout is called before the flag.
00:30You wonder if you can even draw your defense offsides here because it's so loud.
00:34I can't hear anything anyways.
00:36I'm waiting for movement.
00:37Is the defense going to do anything?
00:38I don't think so.
00:39Coming up on the Verizon halftime, Kurt, Terry, Howie, Michael, and Gronk.
00:42Shuck feeds Olave, a battle of the run game in snowy Chicago, and much more coming up on the Verizon halftime report.
00:50Is Gronk going to repel again?
00:52I think one repel per day is all he gets in his contract.
00:55That's it.
00:55He would probably do it again if asked, and I say probably knowing 100% he would do it again if asked.
01:01I can't do that.
01:02I've got an issue with heights.
01:03I don't think that's stepping over the outside of the building.
01:06I don't think I'm going to be able to do that.
01:07The good news is we are not asking you to do any of that.
01:11Thank you.
01:13Here's Tyler Loop on the try.
01:15The 28-yard field goal.
01:17Good for 44 earlier.
01:18And that will sneak through to put three more on the board.
01:421-11 remaining in the second quarter, and a 10-6 lead for the Vikings in Minnesota.
01:50Wow.
01:51Minnesota.
01:52There you go.
01:52Very poetic.
01:54We try occasionally.
01:56Miles Price waiting for the opportunity to return.
02:07Price, about three yards deep.
02:09He'll take a knee, and will take a trip to Los Angeles and check in with Kurt Menefee.
02:15Well, today we honor the brave men and women who protect our country, and we thank you for your service.
02:21Coming up on the Verizon halftime, the guys will have all the highlights from the early games, including Bronx Pats against Bronx Bucks.
02:27We'll see you then.
02:34That's the loop to service.
02:38Watch out the soldier here in Minnesota.
02:43We're ready for the final 1-11 of this first half.
02:48Two timeouts for the Vikings.
02:51And a first and 10 at the 35 after the touchback.
02:58McCarthy, short to Addison, makes the catch, and he's down just across the 41-yard line.
03:05See how aggressive Minnesota gets trying to double up.
03:07They want the toss and elected to defer, so they'll have the ball to start the second half.
03:11Well, we always hear about, you know, it's the style of the offense, the culture we're trying to create.
03:15Kevin O'Connell is always going to be aggressive as an offensive play call.
03:18On 2nd and 5, McCarthy to the sideline incomplete.
03:23He wanted Addison again.
03:26Shinobi Awuzie there to cover his opposite number, and now 3rd and 5.
03:32The Ravens have to assume with a stop, will use a timeout if needed and try to put themselves in position for points before halftime.
03:53On 3rd down, Draymond Jones with pressure.
04:05McCarthy gets away and throws this away.
04:08Brian had the late pass rush, but Draymond Jones was there first.
04:15That's exactly what you wanted to achieve when you made this trade.
04:18Here he is coming from the outside, number 41.
04:22A little dip under Brian O'Neal right there.
04:24That was the only pressure.
04:25Everything else had kind of held up good.
04:27However, the quarterback is out of the pocket and got the ball beyond the line of scrimmage, so there is no foul for intentional grounding.
04:33It's 4th down.
04:35So that is exactly what this franchise was trying to do, making that trade to get Draymond Jones to come in.
04:42And that's from the outside.
04:43Again, you see him.
04:44Here he comes off that edge.
04:45But let's not forget, he can slide inside.
04:48And we talked about John Jenkins and C.J. Okoye, and there's some big bodies inside.
04:52But if you can get that type of pressure now, coming from the inside as well, that's going to bode well for this Ravens defense down the stretch.
05:01Zach Gore told us they haven't had a guy like that who can do both of those things, rush inside and out, since Cedarius Smith.
05:10Western fields it at the 5.
05:12Well, John T. Western, good return up the sidelines and banged out of bounds near the 25-yard line.
05:18Big hit at the end of that play from Tyler Batty, the rookie for BYU.
05:26They are still celebrating.
05:28I mean, he is working through his blocker.
05:32Good hustle down there for the defensive linemen.
05:35So 30 seconds remaining in the first half.
05:38And from the 25-yard line, Lamar Jackson and company will go to work, down by four.
05:44Coaching continues for the young quarterback.
05:46And short of the middle to Justice Hill, and Hill with a first down, and a timeout used.
06:0737-yard line, Blake Cashman on the tackle after the 12-yard gain, and the timeout used by the Ravens.
06:14Now this, from State Farm.
06:16Having insurance isn't the same as having State Farm.
06:19It's like needing the strength of this King Henry, but getting that King Henry.
06:24Huzzah!
06:26Salimitations!
06:26I'm here to lead with the team.
06:28No, no, I don't want it!
06:32Sorcery!
06:32Behold my majestic strides!
06:35You okay?
06:38No, I am not.
06:39So don't settle for just any insurance when they're at State Farm.
06:42Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
06:46I am so happy we are not calling the game with that other King Henry out here.
06:51He tried.
06:52He tried to get into the booth with us.
06:54We said no.
06:56First down at 10.
06:58Pressure coming.
06:58Jackson gets rid of it.
07:00To the sideline.
07:00And it's likely, and likely, did not get out of bounds.
07:04And then the ball came out at the end of the play.
07:07Officials are saying he is down.
07:10It is a first down.
07:14They must have ruled that he got out of bounds, too.
07:17He stretched that ball at the end to get out of bounds on the sideline through Fabian Moreau.
07:22Good play by likely.
07:23It's smart because you're on top of Fabian Moreau.
07:26But just to your point, Kevin, in that situation, understand what the offense is trying to do here and get out of bounds on your own.
07:32It's not about yardage right now.
07:34It's about the time.
07:37Here's Jackson.
07:39Floats it over the middle.
07:40Back to get it to Zay Flowers.
07:41And he turns upfield.
07:43Flowers ducks out of bounds at the 25.
07:45And the Ravens now well within scoring range after the 27-yard pitch and catch from Jackson to Flowers.
07:52Or if you're Zay Flowers, you can do both.
07:54You can get yards and you can get back out of bounds.
07:57Just finding that soft spot in the middle, you can see those linebackers being held.
08:01And a lot of times that's because, you know, the quarterback is climbing up in the pocket.
08:06And there again, great ball security.
08:08Almost a tip by Jonathan Grenard.
08:10But really another good throw over the top of defenders by Lamar Jackson.
08:15200th career catch for Zay Flowers.
08:17And now the timeout used by Minnesota.
08:22Ravens likely going to take one shot at the end zone here, Darrell.
08:28Just to see if they can put six on the board and try to grab the lead before they go into the locker room.
08:34The great thing is that they've got that one timeout left.
08:37So they've got the entire field at their access.
08:40And you talk about the time it takes to run a play.
08:43It obviously depends on how far downfield you want to get everybody.
08:46But let's say six or seven seconds from the 25-yard line would be a safe buffer.
08:51So you've got plenty of time right there to get that timeout called if you're caught or tackled in bounds.
08:56The big thing is, you know, realize that you're on schedule.
09:09If you're scrambling and doing other things like that, then that changes the whole dynamic of play when you've only got ten seconds left.
09:15Jackson, pressure comes, and he's planted in the turf.
09:24Dallas Turner with the sack, but a flag is down.
09:30And this looks like it may be roughing on Turner.
09:34It's the body weight aspect of the penalty at its 15 yards.
09:49Yeah, and you've got to do everything you can to kind of get off of the quarterback.
09:54So you're going to beat him to the outside.
09:57You're coming in.
09:58Now you've got to turn.
09:59And you can kind of see he kind of lifts him up, and he's kind of coming down at that angle.
10:03I know it's frustrating for everybody watching that's a defensive player that they ask these guys to do so much to make sure that they're not doing anything to hurt that quarterback.
10:14But that is exactly the type of play that the NFL is trying to get out.
10:19When you've got all that weight, both of your feet are off the ground.
10:23You're driving the quarterback into the ground.
10:26And it's the textbook body weight play.
10:29Yeah.
10:29There aren't a lot of defensive guys that love it, but it's the textbook play that that penalty is in there for.
10:37Even if he just rolls a little bit to the side off of the body of Lamar Jackson as he's bringing him down, he's going to be fine.
10:43Trying to make an attempt.
10:44I mean, there was no attempt there to get his body weight off of Lamar Jackson.
10:49So now a 30-yard field goal try for Tyler Lue.
11:03And we've got a one-point game in Minneapolis with two seconds to play in the first half.
11:10So three field goals today for Tyler Lue.
11:22And maybe a little more defensive prowess than we expected in this game with these offenses fully healthy.
11:32So a team in both Minnesota and Baltimore that have been trying to get healthy, they get healthy, but the offenses have been stymied a little bit in this way.
11:42Yeah, I think we had so much focus on our quarterbacks in this game kind of getting back in the fold last week and playing well that, you know, we really kind of focused on that.
11:52But, gosh, there are so many really good defensive players that have been in and out of the lineup for both of these teams.
11:58And you look at that Baltimore Ravens front, and they've been hit hard with injuries across that defensive line.
12:04And to be able to get Draymond Jones to come in, we were excited to see what he was going to add to this defense and how he was going to change it.
12:13So two seconds left until halftime in a 10-9 ballgame.
12:17Miles Price, about a yard out of the end zone, up the field he comes, barring a penalty, the final play of the first half.
12:26Price upended at the 25, and halftime has arrived in Minnesota.
12:33Time to get more stats with Geico.
12:36A first half that sees a one-point game.
12:40More on the ground for Baltimore, more through the air for Minnesota.
12:43Minnesota, even across the board for the most part, and almost even on the scoreboard.
12:49Minnesota will get the football to start the second half with a one-point lead, 10-9.
12:57So the Vikings and Ravens locked up in a good one here in Minnesota.
13:02And Moose, a tight ballgame here between Minnesota and Baltimore.
13:08Vikings will get the second-half kickoff, a 10-9.
13:11We're going to be aggressive when we pass rush him.
13:14It's got to be a total team effort.
13:16You can't put a spy on the most athletic guy on the field and expect one person to stop him.
13:22So it's been more of a group effort.
13:23They pressured him.
13:25They've gotten to him.
13:26They've moved him off his spot from time to time.
13:28Now remember last week when they played the Dolphins on Thursday night.
13:32It was the big thing there was kind of a sluggish first half.
13:35I don't want to say they were sluggish this half, but they just turned it on the second half.
13:41So I'm interested to see what Todd Munkin and this Ravens offense does here.
13:46And again, J.J. McCarthy, just that one mistake, I think that one interception,
13:52if he has it all over to do it all over again, he's going to continue to run as he climbs in the pocket
13:57because there was nobody really open at that point.
13:59So just that one mistake in the first half, let's see where he picks up here to start the second.
14:04Miles Price from the two-yard line for Minnesota.
14:07Vikings won the toss, elect to defer, and they'll have the football to start things off from the 24-yard line.
14:12Allison Williams caught up with Kevin O'Connell.
14:14What'd you find out?
14:15Yeah, he felt like offensively they would move the ball well,
14:18and then they would have a penalty and get off schedule in third and long, couldn't convert.
14:22And that's really what's hurt this team.
14:24He said, for us, it's about doing the small things, using the details to ignite us.
14:29He said, we cannot go backwards, we have to focus on those small things to stay on schedule
14:34and sustain some positive momentum, which he said has to start right here to start the second half.
14:39And they start right here at the 24-yard line on first down at 10.
14:43And it's Jones with the carry up the middle, and Jones into the secondary.
14:48It's a good way to get started if you're Kevin O'Connell's offense.
14:51Jones bursting up the middle for 17.
14:55And a nice job right here.
14:56You're going to see everybody kind of climb in here and just create this big gap.
15:00Everybody's coming down.
15:01Really nice job by Jordan Addison.
15:03It doesn't have to be a lot.
15:05You just have to occupy that safety dropping in.
15:07That allowed Aaron Jones to get to that second level.
15:11Six carries for 14 yards in the first half for Jones.
15:15One carry for 17 here in the second.
15:17Toss play to Jones.
15:23Trying to get to the corner, and the legs knocked out from under him as he hurdles to the 46-yard line.
15:29Five-yard pickup on the play.
15:30Nate Wiggins chopping him down from underneath.
15:32Opening drive, seven plays, 86 yards.
15:37He gets seven points.
15:38The rest of the first half, that Ravens defense stiffened.
15:40Well, and we've seen this before, right?
15:43And this is kind of how this offense has gone through the first three games with J.J. McCarthy at quarterback.
15:48At times, it looks really, really efficient.
15:50And then at other times, it really struggles.
15:52So I think that when you hear the conversation that Allison had with Coach O'Connell, it is in the details.
15:58And that was lacking in the first half.
16:00On second and five off the play fake.
16:02McCarthy will check it short.
16:03The catch made by Addison, who spins off contact and is close to the first down.
16:08Nate Wiggins didn't wrap him up.
16:10And Addison gets about a half-yard shy of a first.
16:15And just making plays, too.
16:17Not just doing your job, but making some plays.
16:19And that's what Jordan Addison does right there.
16:22That's a good catch, but it's what he does afterwards.
16:25I mean, able to kind of bounce off Nate Wiggins and extend that down the field.
16:31So it's third and short now for Minnesota, just across the midfield stripe.
16:35On third and one, McCarthy looking deep.
16:50Down the middle, Jefferson and Humphrey get tangled up.
16:53And it's an interception by Marlon Humphrey.
16:57Humphrey trying to find some room to run.
17:00And then Humphrey out of bounds near the 30-yard line.
17:08Yeah, so you're trying to hit the big play on a third and short, and it's just not there.
17:12You see the little stumble right here by Justin Jefferson.
17:16Just kind of gets caught up with Marlon Humphrey.
17:20And now it's just one player down there.
17:22Easy interception for the Baltimore Ravens.
17:28J.J. McCarthy's second interception thrown today.
17:31Both have been targeting Justin Jefferson six times this year.
17:36Justin Jefferson has been targeted and the pass intercepted by the defense.
17:41Well, which is now the most in the NFL, depending on what happens with Jawan Jennings and the Niners,
17:47who was targeted five times with interceptions.
17:49And now Lamar Jackson to the air on first down, and that's deflected by Harrison Smith.
17:56And here comes the flag.
18:01Looking for Isaiah, likely.
18:04And likely a pass interference.
18:07Pass interference.
18:08Defense number 22.
18:10The ball will be placed at the spot of the foul.
18:12It's first down.
18:13Let's go back to the other play, the big interception a moment ago.
18:16Yeah, and I don't have a problem with this, right?
18:17It's third and short.
18:18You're the worst third and short team in the NFL.
18:20So, hey, we're going to take a shot.
18:22You get what you want.
18:23Justin Jefferson, one-on-one, middle of the field, wide open.
18:29And you just, you don't execute it on the outside.
18:32Now, that ball is off of J.J. McCarthy's hands already before the stumble.
18:36You're going to come back on fourth down if it's incomplete and go for it.
18:40But I agree with the play call.
18:41It's just, it's not executed well, especially on the outside by Justin Jefferson.
18:46What a sidearm zip to Zay Flowers.
18:48Flowers slamming on the brakes and out of bounds near the 26.
18:52Isaiah Rogers chasing him out there.
18:54I tell you, we saw that at the end of half.
18:58This is just a different speed from Zay Flowers.
19:03Oh, I'm sorry, all the way inside.
19:05My fault on that one there.
19:08But that is just a different speed when he's getting out into space.
19:11You can see why he's such a handful with the football in his hand.
19:1434% of their total receiving yards this year for Zay Flowers.
19:20Oft-targeted, regardless of who the quarterback is.
19:23From the eye, first down and 10.
19:28Jackson off his spot to the outside.
19:32Positive yardage and much more.
19:34Inside the 10 and down to the 5 goes Charlie Kohler.
19:39He's had a touchdown in each of the last two games.
19:42He ends up four yards shy of another here and it's first a goal.
19:48And just a little bit of an issue with some pursuit.
19:51Andrew Van Ginkle here, let's keep our eyes on him, see if we can keep him in frame.
19:54He's dropping into coverage right there.
19:56The ball goes to the outside and just that angle as he's coming in.
20:00He allows Charlie Kohler to get back inside on him.
20:03First down and goal from the four.
20:08The handoff to Henry and Jalen Redman.
20:12Right there to pounce on him.
20:14One of the real cool success stories this year in the National Football League.
20:18Jalen Redman coming out of spring football.
20:20Absolutely.
20:20In the UFL and he has, the last couple of years, just continued to see his role grow in the NFL.
20:26Yeah, playing with the Arlington Renegades.
20:27And when you get to call up a guy like Bob Stoops and say, hey, tell me about this Jalen Redman guy.
20:32You know, does he have the ability to get up here?
20:35And since he's been here in Minnesota, I got a chance to talk with some of the people in the organization about him.
20:40And just what he does.
20:41He's the most consistent defensive lineman this year.
20:45Jackson in some trouble.
20:46Dancing away.
20:47Chased now by Van Ginkle.
20:49And he'll throw this one away.
20:51He saw pressure from Grenard.
20:54Then the pressure from Van Ginkle.
20:56And it's third and goal.
20:59And you've got to be able to get him off of his spot.
21:02We showed a little bit of that there in the first half.
21:05And you're going hard play action here.
21:06Expecting to try and find somebody in the end zone.
21:09And now you're in trouble.
21:10Right?
21:11You've got Andrew Van Ginkle coming.
21:13He's not coming from an angle.
21:14He was coming straight ahead trying to get that sack.
21:26Two for seven on third down today.
21:29Jackson.
21:31Nobody open.
21:33All the way back to the 20.
21:34He'll throw this out of the back of the end zone.
21:37Vikings defense stiffening.
21:40Inside the 10.
21:42And the field goal unit trotting on for Baltimore.
21:45Looking for the lead.
21:46Well, that's a great job by the coverage group.
21:48Yeah, give him a hand clap there, Coach.
21:50That's outstanding.
21:51Because that's a long time to cover with a quarterback who's really, really good at keeping his eyes downfield.
21:58Even when he's under pressure.
22:1022-yard field goal try for Tyler Luke.
22:13And the Ravens take the lead 12 to 10.
22:28Three trips to the red zone today.
22:31The Ravens with three field goals in those three trips.
22:35J.J. McCarthy getting ready to go back to work with his team.
22:43Now down to 10.19 to play in the third.
22:47That interception turning into three points.
22:49Trying to hit Justin Jefferson.
22:50And they could not connect.
22:53Jefferson just three catches for 26 yards so far this afternoon.
22:57Price from the goal line.
23:05Miles Price across the 20-yard line and good coverage by the Ravens.
23:08The ball's out.
23:10The ball popping out at the 23-yard line.
23:13Everybody sorting through that pile.
23:22Referee shot Hockley right there.
23:24Trying to get everybody unstacked.
23:26Ravens are saying it's their ball.
23:28Vikings, surprisingly, are saying it's their ball.
23:31But it is Baltimore football.
23:33Price coughs it up.
23:35And the third turnover.
23:37It goes back to the Ravens.
23:39And it's Keiondre Jackson, the rookie from Illinois State,
23:42who comes up with the football?
23:44Well, we always forget about that third phase of the football game.
23:48And it's special teams.
23:49Miles Price is coming off an outstanding game last week against Detroit.
23:54There's the fumble right there.
23:55Was his knee down before that ball came out?
23:59Let's see if we can see it here.
24:02Nope, nope.
24:03It's up.
24:04So a 61-yard kickoff return.
24:07A 99-yard touchdown return called back.
24:10Baltimore has struggled a little bit.
24:12With their coverage this season.
24:14And you're talking about John Harbaugh, former special teams coach.
24:16You know he's going to be on these items.
24:19So I really think that the Ravens have done a really nice job here this afternoon
24:23in that special teams phase.
24:25Especially going against Miles Price, who's got an outstanding season so far.
24:28And we had a great conversation with John Harbaugh about their plans and their thoughts on this evolving dynamic kickoff.
24:35They had great coverage on that kickoff, and it ends up getting them a football.
24:39Now Jackson off play action.
24:42Lamar going to run with it.
24:43And the two-time MVP down to the 18-yard line.
24:48Five-yard scramble for Lamar Jackson.
24:53But those special teams have not exactly been as special this year for the Ravens.
24:57They allow almost 25 yards per kick return, over 9 yards per punt return.
25:01But it has been better today.
25:03It has been.
25:04It really has.
25:05And you mentioned, you know, people are still getting used to this dynamic kickoff and trying to figure it out.
25:10And it's gone through a couple of changes already here as we get to Week 10.
25:132nd down and 5 at the 18, likely the motion man.
25:23Lamar Jackson will keep it to the edge.
25:26Steps through the diving Jonathan Grenard.
25:29And ends up short of the first down by about 2.
25:33And we've got an injured Viking, and it is Jonathan Grenard.
25:37This linebacking core may be the strength of this Vikings defense, and Grenard plays a huge role.
25:49Ryan Flores concerned about his life.
25:54Moment ago, Jonathan Grenard heading into the blue medical tent, clearly favoring that left arm, left shoulder area.
26:01Mark Andrews, a toss to Jackson, and Jackson will motor around the edge for a first down.
26:15Derrick Henry blocking for his quarterback, who took it on a pitch from a tight end.
26:20In other words, a very normal and unusual play.
26:22Yeah, right.
26:22Hey, wait a minute.
26:24Usually you see the quarterbacks go way outside.
26:25But when you have somebody as athletic as Lamar Jackson, you've got to get Mark Andrews to work on that pitch a little bit.
26:31You know, kind of on the back shoulder.
26:33You speak of the athleticism.
26:34This is athletic.
26:35Look at that.
26:36Hey, Mark.
26:37You know, we've been working on this for a couple of weeks now.
26:39How about getting that thing right out in front of me?
26:43So now Jackson with pressure in his face.
26:45Throws to the end zone.
26:46Off the hands of Rashad Bateman.
26:48Incomplete.
26:53What a really nice throw.
26:54It's a little bit on the back shoulder, but he's going to be, watch him come in through, right past Josh Metellus, right there.
27:01And a small window, he's got it on the back shoulder a little bit, but good anticipation as he comes into that open window.
27:15Second down and ten.
27:24Jackson looks for Bateman, he plucks it, turns upfield.
27:28Bateman lunging for the goal line.
27:30He's down at the one.
27:31Rodgers kept him out of the end zone for the moment.
27:36It's a ten-yard gain on the play.
27:39It'll be first and goal inside the one-yard line.
27:41And they're going to go quick.
27:44Now you've got a bunch of guys lined up on the outside here.
27:46You can come out real quick and get that into one of your playmakers' hands and let him run in after the catch.
27:51And Justice Hill to the goal line, trying to burrow in for the touchdown.
27:58No signal yet.
27:59There it is.
28:00Touchdown, Baltimore.
28:01And now an 18-10 lead as they cash in on the price fumble on the kickoff return.
28:18Yeah, and the big thing there, what's been going on all afternoon, is that blitzer bluff with Brian Flores in this defense.
28:24They had everybody walked up.
28:25And are those guys going to drop back out and drift into the throwing lanes on that one?
28:29They brought everybody that had walked up.
28:32And that left Rashad Bateman outside one-on-one with Isaiah Rodgers.
28:47And now a 19-10.
28:51Baltimore lead cashing in on Vikings miscues.
28:55This one on the kickoff return.
28:58The fumble by Price turns into six.
29:0213 of the 19 Ravens points off turnovers.
29:06The network.
29:10Justice Hill is only carry of the day.
29:13And a touchdown.
29:15Pretty good percentage of scoring per carry.
29:1719-10.
29:19The advantage now for the Ravens with 8-0-2 to go in the third.
29:22Three takeaways, 13 points off those takeaways today for Baltimore.
29:27And now Price, who fumbled a moment ago.
29:30Back to work on the return.
29:32You know he wants to make amends.
29:34Spins across the 25.
29:36The ball pops out again.
29:37Loose on the turf.
29:39It had ended up initially in the hands of one of his teammates who moved it forward.
29:44And then it fell out of his hands.
29:48And on the second straight kickoff return, the Vikings lose the football.
29:54Do they retain possession?
29:56They do this time.
30:00My goodness.
30:12Ben Yurasik is going to be the guy at the bottom of that pile.
30:14Miles Price better give him a high five and jog off the field with him.
30:17Sometimes you're trying to do too much, right?
30:22You just had a big mistake and it comes off of your own players.
30:26It's actually contact by his own teammates.
30:28So it is Ben Yurasik that kind of caused that first fumble.
30:32Tavier Thomas has it.
30:33He loses it back.
30:34Great job down at the bottom of that pile because Ben lost that.
30:37He had it and lost it.
30:39And he kept fighting for it at the bottom.
30:41My goodness.
30:44Vikings are fortunate to have the football.
30:46Now what can they do with it?
30:47Here's Mason.
30:49And Jordan Mason.
30:50Good run on first down to the 46-yard line.
30:55We kind of saw this on the last series, right?
30:57The last time this offense was out there, we started off with Aaron Jones in a nice run.
31:02And you're pulling some linemen.
31:03You got your full back in front of you.
31:05So, you know, this is, if they can lean on this again, you know, get these guys, you know, in that run game.
31:11Get them.
31:12Get them leaning forward.
31:13Try to take advantage.
31:14And there was movement up front on the left side of that offensive line.
31:22McCarthy's cadence caught his own man.
31:24False start.
31:25Offensive.
31:25Three to five.
31:26Five-yard penalty.
31:28Let's go down.
31:28It's Ben Yerosik who flinched on the outside.
31:33Three false starts at home from Minnesota.
31:35We talked about what an advantage this creates for the home team and how challenging it is
31:39and how limited you can be at the line of scrimmage as the visiting team on the offensive side of the ball.
31:44But it's been the Vikings on the offensive side of the ball that have struggled with some of just the normal operations.
31:56First and 15.
31:57McCarthy over the middle to Phelan.
31:59Who gets the penalty yardage back to the 48-yard line and two more after that.
32:05So it's second down.
32:15Second and eight from the 48.
32:21McCarthy.
32:21Out of the backfield.
32:23It's Mason on the edge.
32:25And a good open field tackle by Marlon Humphrey.
32:28Leads him two yards short of the first down.
32:30And here's a really big snap right here.
32:33You know, this Minnesota Vikings team has struggled here, you know, to start this second half.
32:39And they've got to get something positive.
32:41Everything has gone the Ravens' way here in the third quarter.
32:44And it's the down and distance that's caused Minnesota trouble all year long.
32:48Third and short.
32:48Mason stays in at running back.
32:55That's Thielen in motion.
32:59Now Addison goes in motion on third and two.
33:02McCarthy to throw.
33:03It's batted at the line by Kyle Hamilton.
33:05And it's incomplete.
33:08We have seen him so many different places on the field.
33:12He lines up to rush this time.
33:15I don't know what we're doing here on the pass protection.
33:18I thought it was going to be a screen.
33:20I mean, when you come out, you have to know Kyle Hamilton is incredibly athletic.
33:24You can't have your head go forward.
33:26And that's exactly what happened.
33:27I thought maybe it was going to be a screen to Jordan Mason.
33:29But I think it was just really poor technique and pass pro.
33:32Offense stays on the field.
33:33They're five of eight this year on fourth down.
33:38Fourth and two for Minnesota.
33:40McCarthy looking.
33:46Trying to fit it in to Jordan Addison.
33:49There is a flag down.
33:51Nate Wiggins on the coverage.
33:52The flag is on the opposite side of the field.
33:56Yeah, I don't know if this is offensive pass interference because, number one, it's not a yard down the line of scrimmage.
34:01So, Adam Thielen, did he engage in the...
34:04It might be the fact that Aidan Thielen or Adam Thielen kind of engaged in a blocking posture.
34:10If he just stands there, he's going to be fine because it's not beyond one yard down the field.
34:15It's actually on the other side of the ball.
34:17But I think the fact that he kind of engaged into a blocking posture...
34:21Now we've got some talking, some jawing.
34:24Thielen was talking.
34:27A little frustration rising up on the Viking side.
34:31And Roquan Smith trying to chase all his teammates to the other side of the field.
34:36The ruling on the field is an incomplete pass and a turnover on downs.
34:40Personal foul, illegal blindside block by the offense number 19.
34:44By rule, this foul will be bridged to the next change in possession.
34:47After the 15-yard penalty, it's a first down for Baltimore.
34:51So, you bridge the penalty and 15 yards added on for Baltimore.
34:58So, they're going to start with a 9-point lead in excellent field position.
35:02And Adam Thielen is hot.
35:04But I would disagree that it's an illegal blindside block because he's not going towards his end zone.
35:10He's going in, right?
35:11He's going this way.
35:12Now, it should be OPI because you can see he takes a blocking posture.
35:18He doesn't just kind of stand there.
35:19If he turns and faces the quarterback and lets Kyle Hamilton run into him, we don't have any type of discussion here.
35:25But I don't know if it rose to the level of a blindside block because he wasn't going backwards towards his end zone.
35:32Adam Thielen, you saw the reaction that he had as he watched the replay on the big screen here.
35:37I think he's going to get OPI, though, anyways.
35:43So, it's first down.
35:44Second straight possession.
35:46The Ravens start in Vikings territory.
35:48This is the 39.
35:50And Lamar Jackson deflected and incomplete.
35:54It was Dallas Turner who got a hand on it to bat it away.
35:57And it's second down.
35:58All right.
35:59Mike Pereira is with us in Los Angeles.
36:01Mike, you've had a chance to look at that penalty as well on Adam Thielen.
36:04What did you see?
36:06It's clearly a blindside block.
36:08So, that is the quality.
36:09Going parallel down the line of scrimmage.
36:13And so, you can't blindside like that.
36:15It's like a crack.
36:16And that's players defenseless.
36:17But it's blindside also.
36:19And it also can't be OPI because it's behind the line of scrimmage.
36:23So, therefore, that takes that element down.
36:25So, when you're going parallel or backwards to your own end zone, you can't take that shot.
36:31Mike, give me one more spot where I was wrong.
36:33So, if it's baseball, I'm just out.
36:34We just lost the whole inning.
36:36Strike one, strike two, strike three, you're out.
36:38Just get this.
36:39You know, I actually didn't hear what you said, Darrell.
36:41So, that's why.
36:44Thank you, Mike.
36:46Boy, just stopping in long enough to say, Darrell, you're wrong on everything.
36:52Have a nice day.
36:52Thank you.
36:55Now, third down at nine.
37:09Jackson.
37:10Sidearm incomplete.
37:12Pretty good sudden change defense here, Darrell, from this Vikings team.
37:16Yeah, it's really impressive.
37:18Usually, it's the other way around, right?
37:20That was one of the things that Kevin O'Connell talked to us about is,
37:22hey, we need to start taking the ball away because that gives our offense a shot in the arm.
37:27Well, this gave their defense a shot in the arm.
37:29They came out and they played really, really well after that situation with the down, you know,
37:34down on four downs.
37:35Penalty added to that.
37:37You're starting to drive on your side of the 50-yard line.
37:41So, really nice job by the Vikings defense coming out and making that stop.
37:44Tyler Luke will come out and try a 56-yard field goal.
37:49He hit an Arizona school record 62-yarder against Houston in his final year of college last year.
37:56This would be an NFL long.
37:58Good snap and hold.
38:00And the kick is wide to the left.
38:04No good.
38:07The second miss in a young career of Tyler Luke.
38:12It didn't miss by much.
38:14But close doesn't count in field goals.
38:17This is not horseshoes.
38:1819-10.
38:20Baltimore still up.
38:22Spark.
38:22This Vikings team could field position.
38:2646-yard line.
38:27It's their best start.
38:29But the second half has not gone well for the Vikings so far.
38:34McCarthy on first down.
38:36He'll check it to Jones on the sideline.
38:38In the Ravens territory.
38:39And Jones down at the 42.
38:43Well, Allison, that Minnesota sideline has to have been interesting of late.
38:46Yeah, and Kevin, you know all the guys we talked to said when you have J.J. McCarthy as your quarterback,
38:51you are never out of the fight.
38:53You see that fire in his eyes.
38:54It's been evident on the sideline.
38:56He's been telling his guys it's time to dig deeper.
38:58It's time to believe.
38:59And Aaron Jones telling them over and over, we have to stay locked in.
39:03There's so much ball left.
39:04Justin Jefferson, before they took the field, said, guys, it's time.
39:09Certainly feels like it needs to be time for Minnesota if they're going to march back at this one.
39:14Jefferson, the motion man, and the pitch to Jones.
39:17Jones got some blocking, and Jones with a good run.
39:21Back-to-back good plays to start this offensive possession.
39:25Another first down, this for 11.
39:28Yeah, nice job here.
39:29You get a block down, and you get a pull around.
39:30So kind of on that edge, like those pin and pull plays,
39:33and just a good job of Aaron Jones finding that running lane on the outside.
39:40Well, you know you need two scores.
39:42You're already in field goal range now.
39:44The big thing is, I mean, that opening week game in Chicago, I mean, it was three quarters of not very good football,
39:51and then that fourth quarter was amazing.
39:52They know they can do this.
39:54They know they can flip the switch and start playing well again.
39:56Here's Jefferson on the sideline, chased out by Nate Wiggins.
40:01Another first down.
40:02Another 11-yard gain.
40:05Bang, bang, bang.
40:06Three straight first downs.
40:07And this is smart.
40:08You look out to the left side.
40:09If you see that, you know, you have to just give Justin Jefferson a shot.
40:14I mean, that is so much cushioned by Nate Wiggins on Justin Jefferson.
40:19You have to just pop out and throw that outside.
40:21Four catches, 37 yards.
40:26Justin Jefferson.
40:32Jefferson to the bottom of the screen.
40:33Jones, the single back.
40:36And movement again.
40:37Wow.
40:37That's four.
40:38That's four false starts today for Minnesota.
40:42Personal foul.
40:43Offense.
40:43Number 89 and 71.
40:46It's a five-yard penalty.
40:47It's first down.
40:48What's that phrase we hear from a lot of coaches?
40:50You know, do your job.
40:51Do your job.
40:52And I love the fact that when we sat down with Kevin O'Connell,
40:55said, listen, no, it's not about doing your job.
40:58What it is, it's about a maniacal attention to detail
41:02of the little things on every single snap.
41:05And that's when we talk to guys who have been here
41:07and been a part of the Minnesota Vikings football family.
41:10And you say, hey, what do they do up there?
41:12And they always talk about how focused they are
41:15on all the small details of everything.
41:17They haven't had that focus today here pre-snap.
41:25McCarthy going too tall for Jones as they tried to set up the screen.
41:29A lot of traffic around there.
41:30Mike Green was putting a little heat on the young quarterback.
41:34But you talk about what Kevin O'Connell has done with quarterbacks over the years.
41:39And he said with JJ, so much of this, he told us, is about repeating the technique,
41:45repeating the fundamentals over and over.
41:47But he said, sometimes I don't like to look at the stat sheet after the game.
41:50Because he said, I knew coming into this year,
41:52the offense wasn't going to be what it's been
41:54because we're learning together with a new quarterback.
41:57Yeah, this was not going to be like last season
42:00when they were a top ten offense.
42:02This was going to be a growing process.
42:05Here's McCarthy on the second down.
42:07Steps up into a clean pocket and throws off the hands of Justin Jefferson.
42:13Would have been six.
42:14This is a great route.
42:20Watch the route by Justin Jefferson at the top of the screen.
42:23It's going to be post, corner, post.
42:25Now you're back to the inside.
42:26And that timing on that route and that location on that route is not easy.
42:31Justin Jefferson has to make that play
42:34and then survive the contact by Alohi Gilman.
42:37I mean, that is a very well-thrown ball by JJ McCarthy
42:40on a really challenging timing route with tight coverage.
42:44McCarthy with time, looking for the end zone,
42:53looking for Jefferson again.
42:54The pass is incomplete.
42:56Ouzier with the coverage.
42:58No flag on the field.
43:00And it's fourth down.
43:05Here they are on the outside again.
43:07You know, matched one-on-one,
43:09going to the inside and back outside.
43:14The fans here don't like it.
43:17They're both doing the same thing as the ball comes in.
43:21So I would make my opinion,
43:23but Mike Pereira would come on and tell me I was wrong again.
43:26You know, he's just pacing in the green room.
43:28Come on, Daryl.
43:28Say something.
43:29I'm ready to go.
43:3043-yard try for Will Reichard.
43:34And the kick is good.
43:36He's perfect from 50 yards and in this season.
43:40And he bangs this one home to bring the Vikings to within six.
43:452.16 to go in the third.
43:47And now these messages.
43:49Two double cheese.
43:50Sorry, three double cheese.
43:52Sorry.
43:52I'm going to start.
43:52Trubisky, you're in.
43:54Mitch Trubisky, backup, orderer.
43:56Can we have four number three convos?
43:57If only there were backups in real life.
43:59But at least there's Progressive to protect your home and auto.
44:02I would have gotten it eventually.
44:03No, you wouldn't have.
44:04Hey, hey, hey.
44:08What you got to say?
44:13Say hey, hey, hey.
44:17New Balance, we got now.
44:1919-13.
44:22That ends a string of 16 straight Ravens points without a Vikings score.
44:272.16 to go in the third.
44:29But McCarthy going around.
44:30Give it some congratulations.
44:32Minnesota with three really good plays out of the gate to start that possession
44:36and put themselves in position for three points.
44:38Yeah, and I really think that the last couple of series for that offense,
44:41it's been the run game that's gotten everything going.
44:44And then, you know, a lot of times you have that success early in the drive.
44:47And then when you get down to that critical area, you lean a little bit heavy on that passing game.
44:51And, you know, I'd come back.
44:53Jordan Mason and Aaron Jones both have run well here in the third quarter.
44:58So I thought it was something they got away from a little bit in that first half as well.
45:02We talk about Aaron Jones.
45:04He just, there's an energy when he's on the field.
45:06Just the passion that he plays the game with.
45:08Wester and Mitchell, the deep men.
45:19From the three-yard line.
45:22That's a Wester.
45:24Looking for a crease.
45:25And it closes in the arms of C.J. Hamm at the 33-yard line.
45:30We go from a full-back tackle to a game break with Carissa Thompson.
45:33Let's do it, Kevin.
45:33So the Bills have been shut out through three quarters.
45:35Down 16 to the Dolphins until Josh Allen hits Keyon Coleman.
45:39Down the sideline for the 35-yard score.
45:41They miss the two-point conversion.
45:43And now trail by 10 with 9.30 left in the fourth.
45:46Kevin.
45:48Yeah, try to solve the National Football League.
45:51Yeah, from week to week, there's a couple of head scratchers every weekend.
45:55Buffalo, Miami is the head scratcher this weekend.
45:57That is, yeah.
45:58We'll scratch your head raw with that one.
46:00From the 33 on first down, Jackson has to sling it sidearm to get through traffic to Henry.
46:13And Henry with eight yards to the 41 before Josh Metellus makes the tackle.
46:21We've given him such high praise today.
46:24And here's another element of the game, right?
46:25Look at him change that arm angle and drop it down and be able to find the ball,
46:29find that clear alley.
46:30We'll find that clear alley.
