00:00You know, we're going to get closer and closer to the NFL trade deadline,
00:04so the early portion of the season.
00:06We're looking to identify buyers, sellers, jets, sellers.
00:12How close are we to seeing more and more deals done here across the league?
00:18Kevin, great question.
00:19And also, every once in a while, you see a trade where the Jaguars,
00:25who have obviously been way better than we expected,
00:27they make a trade with a bad team, the Browns, for a corner.
00:32Both teams traded each other for corners.
00:34That was a very odd trade.
00:35You normally don't see that.
00:37But what happened there, Kevin, with Greg Newsom was the Browns were not going to extend his contract,
00:42so they moved him.
00:43And Tyson Campbell, as I understand it, although he's a good player,
00:47he's had a bunch of injuries in his career.
00:49He doesn't quite fit Anthony Campanelli's scheme there in Jacksonville.
00:52So they wanted to move him.
00:54So you kind of understand it better, but still, it's an odd trade.
00:56But you set this up very well.
00:59One of the things, when I started covering the league in the early 2000s,
01:01the trade deadline was like week five, week six.
01:04Over a series of years, personnel people, general managers complained to the league,
01:07they're like, wait a minute, we need time to decide who we are,
01:10whether they're going to be sellers, buyers, or we're going to stay pat.
01:14And so through the competition committee, they let them know that let's push this back.
01:20So then it would be mid-October, then late October.
01:22Now, it's actually the first Tuesday, November the 4th, at 4 p.m. Eastern.
01:26So that's why you see all sorts of rumors.
01:29Now, as an addition to this, Kevin, you have a number of teams that are in it because,
01:34as I told you last week, the feeling around the league was,
01:37the end of the season, there are no dominant teams in the league this year.
01:41So a bunch of teams have got a chance to get the playoffs.
01:43So yeah, Kevin, as you set it up pretty well,
01:46there are a bunch of teams that probably thought they wouldn't be in it,
01:48and they're going to continue to evaluate it and look to make trades.
01:52It's going to be active, Kevin.
01:54It's going to be more active than usual, I believe.
01:56Cap, I want to stick there.
01:57We saw the victory by the Giants over the Eagles.
02:00They have two wins now.
02:02It seems like Brian Dable potentially is safe with that aspect.
02:06But to your point, I mean, do they, big picture, maybe,
02:09are they going to be involved in the trade aspect in any capacity
02:13to try and upgrade this team this year?
02:15All right, so when they took Abdul Carter, what I said is this,
02:20if they don't trade him and they didn't trade Kayvon Thibodeau,
02:22this will be Thibodeau's absolutely certain last year, right?
02:25They've got the fifth-year option.
02:27They took care of that thing.
02:29But the bottom line is, Joe, if they're not in it by the end of this month,
02:35he's a guy because somehow they're making it work with three edges,
02:40and Brian Burns is having a good year.
02:41They're making it work, but long-term, it's not sustainable.
02:45And that's a guy.
02:45Watch Kayvon Thibodeau as we get closer to the trade deadline in early November.
02:50And by the way, it does make clear, they're not looking to move him,
02:53but not looking to move him, being realistic are two different things.
02:56That's a name to watch.
02:57Now, you mentioned the Giants, though.
02:59That was an unbelievable one, and they were severely shorthanded,
03:02particularly at receiver.
03:03No, I don't expect them to be buyers.
03:06It's still, and I told Kevin this to start the season,
03:08they have an unbelievably tough schedule, by far the, in my rankings,
03:12for strength of schedule, by far the hardest.
03:15And that game against Philly was remarkable.
03:17They absolutely beat up the Eagles.
03:18That was a stunner to me.
03:20I know Kevin's still mourning over that game.
03:22As I send it back to you, Kevin.
03:23But I don't expect them to be buyers.
03:26I don't see that at all.
03:28But as we get closer and the schedule gets harder,
03:30that's when you look for them to be sellers.
