00:00How about some raccoons rolling around?
00:03Oh, look at him. I love that mask.
00:14Jackson Dart back on the Giants bench after they punted away.
00:18And the Saints will start this drive again with not great field position at their own 13-yard line.
00:25Spencer Rattler so far 9 of 14 for just 67 yards.
00:34Tight end in a pullback.
00:36Play action. Rattler to the air.
00:38Looking deep down the field. Shahid's got great speed.
00:40He's got him. Shahid down the sideline.
00:4410-5 touchdown.
00:46There's the home run ball for the Saints.
00:5087 yards.
00:55That is a career-long reception for Shahid.
01:13They catch the Giants where now Tyler Newben is matched up with Rashid Shahid in the slot.
01:19And Spencer Rattler said, hey, we know this afternoon they're going to give us opportunities in man-to-man where we can take shots down the field.
01:27It's up to me when they give it to us to give my guys an opportunity.
01:32And he did that there.
01:34Groupies extra point is good.
01:36There's been a lot of talk about how the Saints have not taken shots down the field.
01:43Well, they load up here, and they come up aces at the Dome.
01:55Back in New Orleans, Giants up 14-13.
01:58We want to go back and look at that last leg.
02:00Tyler Newben ends up matched up on Rashid Shahid.
02:03And now he has to cover him.
02:05They're running quarters coverage.
02:06Now stop it right here.
02:07I want you to look at the safety right now.
02:10Javon Holley, he has vision for Newben.
02:13He doesn't trust it.
02:14And now when you run this play, he overruns Shahid.
02:17And now Spencer Rattler is able to throw this one up.
02:20And that's all she wrote when a guy can run that fast.
02:23And now the Saints get their big play they've been searching for.
02:26So frontside quarter-quarter coverage.
02:28And on the backside, half-field coverage.
02:30Yes, sir.
02:31Cover six.
02:32You said it.
02:33Longest Saints play in nine years when Drew Brees hit Brandon Cooks
02:38for the same distance, 87 yards.
02:41Oshesky on the return.
02:43And Oshesky hit hard at the 26-yard line.
02:47And that's where the Giants' drive will begin.
02:50Don't forget, coming up on the Verizon Halftime Report,
02:54we will get you all the scores and highlights from around the NFL.
02:57J.B., Nate, Matt Ryan, and Coach Coward
03:00will have it for you coming up on the Verizon Halftime Report.
03:03And now the Caesars Superdome is loud.
03:07And this is something we talked about with Jackson Dart.
03:10He said, look, I played on the road in a number of tough SEC environments.
03:15I don't think much has to change.
03:17Giants practice with a lot of music blasting in East Rutherford all week long.
03:22Scadaboo on first down.
03:30Scadaboo turning those legs.
03:32Eight-yard pickup back to New York.
03:35NFL Today update with Adam Schein.
03:37Andrew Jalen Hurts, 52 yards to Devontae Smith.
03:40Set up Jalen Hurts to Dallas Gattard for a touchdown.
03:4410-3 Philly.
03:45Eagles Giants on Thursday nights.
03:47Buckle up, Andrew Gatteloff.
03:49Oh, buckle up, Adam.
03:51And actually, they played two of the next three weeks, Giants and Eagles,
03:54starting Thursday night in New Jersey.
03:57Scadaboo up the middle.
03:58He's got the first down.
04:00It was nice for Goddard to get the touchdown catch,
04:02but I'd highly suggest you find A.J. Brown to fire for the Eagles.
04:06Well, A.J. Brown to A.J. Ross down on the field.
04:10Well, Andrew, it's been an interesting journey for Saints defensive coordinator
04:13Brandon Staley with his departure from the Chargers in 2023
04:17when Kellen Moore was O.C. at that time.
04:19He had a gap year.
04:20He spent some time with the Niners and some interesting names
04:23from Kyle Shanahan to Kevin O'Connell, Vic Fangio, Pete Carroll,
04:27Steve Kerr, and even Mike Brown.
04:28He says he learned a lot talking to those guys, picking their brains.
04:32He's translating a lot of that knowledge to these guys he has now.
04:35And no question about that.
04:38And, A.J., the way you described it, that gap year,
04:41there are a lot of parents right now watching this game and looking at their kids
04:44and saying, see, that's how you use a gap year, okay?
04:47If you're going to take one, can you use it and make sure you get something better
04:51going down the road?
04:52Brandon Staley went out there, saw all those different people,
04:55saw different ways of doing things, incorporating it into his coaching now
04:59and helping change his style a little bit.
05:01But still the basic defensive wizardry, still in tact.
05:06Second down and four, Devin Singletary up the middle,
05:09trying to sneak through.
05:10He cannot.
05:12DeMario Davis makes the play.
05:18That's 36 years old, Jason.
05:20Put heads on people.
05:23Unbelievable.
05:23The longevity, the leadership, everything that DeMario Davis embodies
05:28and what he brings not only to this football team but to the city of New Orleans
05:33with everything he does in the community and on the football field.
05:38Don't be surprised if you see Jackson Dart work a game with Scadaboo.
05:42Or maybe the quarterback has a chance to keep it.
05:46Third and two.
05:47It's a flea flicker.
05:49Dart's got a wide open man down the field and it is incomplete.
05:53Slayton was open.
05:57Terrell Burgess got back quickly and was able to break it up.
06:02What a play call there by the Giants and they had it.
06:06But now it's four down and two.
06:08And watch what happens because he's wide open
06:11but Jackson Dart doesn't get enough on this football.
06:14He missed the layup on this one, guys.
06:17You just got to throw it up there and throw it out there and let him go get it.
06:20And in this case, he wanted to make sure he didn't miss the layup
06:23but allowed the defensive back to come back into the play
06:26and make a play on the ball.
06:27And let's see if the Giants snap the ball here.
06:30They line up to go for it on fourth and two.
06:33And they'll take the delay of game.
06:51Can I say this about the third down call as well?
07:02Jackson Dart hangs out, hangs that one up there.
07:05But Terrell Burgess, the non-panic of him chasing that play,
07:10knowing your beat, you're fooled as a defender,
07:12gets back into the picture and doesn't get past interference.
07:16He's able to break that pass up and time it perfectly to stop the big play.
07:21I really feel like two things are true there.
07:23I like the Giants going for him like they did with the big try.
07:27But what you just talked about, Jason Burgess not panicking.
07:30Two good plays there.
07:31It just came out to the benefit of New Orleans when it was said and done.
07:36Gillen's punt is nearly blocked.
07:37It may have been deflected, actually, by Isaiah Stalberg.
07:41And the punt rolls out of bounds at the 17-yard line.
07:47A 39-yard punt, but Stalberg was coming off the edge.
07:51And you can see right here, he gets a little piece of it.
08:02Here in New Orleans, we want to mention
08:04that we are sending our sincere condolences
08:07to the family of Nelson Fernandez,
08:09a Spanish league announcer for CBS Sports
08:12and a friend to many.
08:14Nelson called our NFL games in Spanish since 2012,
08:18and he will be missed by all who knew him.
08:21So the Saints will start this drive at their own 17-yard line.
08:34Remember, the Saints are down to two timeouts
08:37because Kellen Moore lost a challenge back in the first quarter.
08:41Giants have all three.
08:42And with this field position,
08:44how aggressive will Shane Bowen want to be on defense
08:46to try and keep New Orleans pinned up
08:48and try and help his offense with one last drive?
08:50Kamara on first down.
08:52He gets two on the play.
08:58That could take us to the two-minute warning
09:01unless Brian Dable wants to call a timeout.
09:03Doesn't appear he will do that.
09:05How about Rasheed Shaheed on that touchdown?
09:08Next-gen stats clocked him at just under 23 miles per hour,
09:13the fastest of any offensive player in the NFL this year.
09:17That was me trying to get to class in college
09:19when I woke up late.
09:23Did Burns jump right before the two-minute warning?
09:29Neutral zone infraction.
09:30Number zero defense.
09:33That's a bad penalty there by Brian Burns.
09:35He'll probably be the first to tell you.
09:37But it was clear the Saints were not going to take the snap,
09:40let it go to the two-minute warning,
09:42and he gives them a free five yards.
09:44Just can't do that.
09:45Pre-snap and Roy Robertson Harris, he was right next to him
09:49and he was jumping as well.
09:50Just awareness, to your point, Andrew,
09:51of knowing what the New Orleans Saints are trying to do at that point,
09:55just taking it down to the two-minute warning.
09:57Very poor, especially by two veterans.
09:59The game clock went to the two-minute warning
10:01before the player jumped in the neutral zone.
10:03There is no foul.
10:05This is a two-minute warning.
10:06I take it all back.
10:08Me too.
10:09Burns did a great job there.
10:11Andrew and Jason said it, Brian.
10:13The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Progressive.
10:22Coverage you can count on.
10:24Progressive.com.
10:26And by Corona.
10:29La Fia awaits.
10:36Back in New Orleans, don't forget, coming up, Verizon halftime.
10:39All the scores and highlights with our crew back in New York.
10:44Out of the two-minute warning, Spencer Rattler in the shotgun.
10:49It's second down and seven for the Saints.
10:53Rattler looking deep again.
10:54Olave, there's a flag down.
10:56A lot of contact by Drew Phillips,
10:59who entered the game with 94 yards and penalties this year,
11:05the most in the NFL.
11:08And if it's on Phillips, it would be his sixth penalty of the year.
11:11That's kind of the give and get with Phillips this year,
11:15because he's played awfully well, other than the penalties in the grabbing.
11:19But he's got eight passes broken up, leading the lead, coming into this weekend.
11:21Pass interference, number 22 defense.
11:24Spot foul, automatic first down.
11:26Jason, is that one of those things that at this stage with Andrew Phillips,
11:30you're trying to coach him out of some of this,
11:32but at the same time, you might live with some of it with the way he's playing and how aggressive he is.
11:36Yeah, when you play, a lot of man-to-man coverage is going to happen.
11:38I wasn't sure if they were going to get him with a legal contact, RPI.
11:41It's just too handsy right there.
11:43To start it, good contact, but as they get down the field,
11:46you can't continue to put your hands on the wide receiver.
11:49That was an easy call for the officials on that one.
11:5219 more penalty yards assessed to Phillips.
11:57Pressure coming off the edge.
11:59It's Nubin, Rattler escapes, throws on the run, incomplete,
12:02but another flag in the secondary.
12:08Paulson, Adebo, and Javon Holland were back in coverage for the Giants.
12:16It's a bad rush angle by Nubin going after the quarterback,
12:19allowed Rattler to circle out.
12:21I think they're discussing whether he was outside the pocket on the contact.
12:25There were two fouls prior to the pass,
12:28holding number 58 defense.
12:29That penalty has declined.
12:31Pass interference, number 21 defense.
12:33Spot foul, automatic first down.
12:36And it is on the former St. Paulson, Adebo,
12:39who spent the last four years here in New Orleans
12:41before signing a three-year deal with the Giants in the offseason.
12:46And Adebo on the outside right here gets the double move,
12:49and you see it right there.
12:50He goes to just push Alave on the double move,
12:54and trying to contact him, you just can't do it.
12:56And that was past the five yards.
12:58That's why the penalty came in.
13:00Inside the five yards there, if he contacts him like that, it's a good chuck.
13:07Rattler pressure coming over the middle.
13:09It's Kamara.
13:10First down.
13:12Yes.
13:13Shoved out of bounds by Brian Burns.
13:1512 yards for Alvin Kamara.
13:20And, Charles, you talked about checkdowns to start this game
13:23and getting the ball on Alvin Kamara in his hands in space,
13:27and we got to see it right there.
13:28He's able to catch that ball in the middle of the field,
13:30and there's a looseness still being able to work to the outside
13:33and get out of bounds.
13:34And now with two catches today, Kamara moves past Marcus Allen
13:39for fifth all-time by a running back in NFL history.
13:46588 catches for Kamara.
13:48And on cue, he drops it.
13:50Way to go.
13:51That would have been a tough one for him, I think.
13:53That was it.
13:54Looked like he's down on his knees,
13:56and he's trying to catch it and turn up field.
13:58Already passed Marcus Allen, though.
14:00So, yep, we didn't jinx him on that front.
14:02No.
14:03And our friend Tiki Barber,
14:06who entered the day tied with Kamara
14:09for the most catches by a running back with one team.
14:12And look at all the Hall of Fame stickers
14:14that are up there on that list.
14:16I have to tell you, Tiki Barber,
14:18examine his numbers, examine his play.
14:20Hall of Fame members, I implore you,
14:23get a heck of a career.
14:24We agree.
14:26Second down and 10.
14:28Rattler, and he runs right into...
14:30Darius Alexander,
14:32the rookie third-round pick out of Toledo.
14:39Seeing Alexander coming right at you
14:41on the right side of your screen,
14:42fighting through blocks
14:43to wrap up Spencer Rattler right there.
14:46Talk about these rookies.
14:47They're really getting it done this season
14:49for the Giants.
14:51Rule to run, so it's not a sack.
14:53Giants call a timeout.
14:55We'll be back in 30 after this from State Farm.
14:57Having insurance isn't the same as having State Farm.
15:03It's like needing the strength of this King Henry,
15:05but getting that King Henry...
15:07Huzzah!
15:09Salitations!
15:09I'm here to lead with the team.
15:11No, I don't want it!
15:15Sorcery!
15:16Behold my majestic strife!
15:20You okay?
15:21No, I am not.
15:23So don't settle for just any insurance
15:24when they're State Farm.
15:26Like a good neighbor,
15:27State Farm is there.
15:28Each team with two timeouts remaining here
15:34in the first half.
15:35It's a third down and 13 for the Saints.
15:43Rattler on the slant,
15:45and he's got a short completion.
15:46Drew Phillips was right there
15:48to bring down Olave.
15:50It's fourth down.
15:52Giants call their final timeout
15:54with 90 seconds to go in the first half.
15:58We'll step aside for 30
16:00after this from Novartis.
16:02Chin up.
16:04Stiff upper lip.
16:06Real men don't ask for help.
16:08Today, many of these ideas
16:10no longer hold true,
16:12especially if you have
16:13advanced prostate cancer.
16:16So challenge what you've been told.
16:18Ask your doctor about your PSMA status
16:21and what it could mean for you.
16:22One scan can change the course
16:24of your prostate cancer journey.
16:27As it turns out,
16:28asking for help
16:29is the manliest thing you can do.
16:35So the Giants have one timeout remaining.
16:38Stop the clock with 1.30 to go,
16:40and Blake Groupie will come out.
16:42And this would give the Saints
16:44the lead for the first time
16:47since the second quarter of week one
16:51against Arizona.
16:53They have not led a game
16:55since week one.
16:56Groupie's been hitting it well
16:57in the last two ballgames.
17:0052-yard attempt.
17:02And this one is...
17:05no good!
17:06They still don't have a lead.
17:11Saints fans are really mad
17:13at Andrew and Charles right now.
17:15Double jinx on that one.
17:18More me than Andrew.
17:20You're right.
17:23And you know,
17:23I'm just going to tell you, Jason,
17:25I don't take responsibility for that.
17:27Nor should you.
17:27I didn't kick it.
17:30Groupie has now missed
17:31one field goal
17:32in four of the Saints'
17:33five games so far this year.
17:36He had looked to me
17:37like he was back
17:37in a pretty good groove, though.
17:39The one he hit in Buffalo
17:40that we saw
17:40was a 50, what, three-yarder.
17:42The one he hit earlier today.
17:44This one,
17:45he had the distance,
17:46pulled a little bit to the left.
17:47So the Giants now take over
17:49at their own 42-yard line
17:50with one timeout.
17:52Darts started the game
17:53six for six.
17:54Since then,
17:55he's three for his last seven.
17:57And we'll see how
17:58Brian Dayball feels about him
17:59because he's going to let him
18:00throw in this situation.
18:02A lot of rookie quarterbacks,
18:04you're just trying to get
18:04to the locker room,
18:05finish the half, right?
18:06He trusts this young man.
18:08He's going to put the ball
18:09in his hands
18:09with 1.22 left on the clock
18:11to try and get more points.
18:13Miscommunication there
18:14as the ball landed
18:15between Theo Johnson
18:17and Darius Slayton.
18:18Almost made him regret
18:19his decision, didn't he?
18:19He had.
18:20And there's Mike Kapka,
18:21the offensive coordinator,
18:22trying to dial up the next play.
18:26Hey, Mike, Mike 20, Mike 20,
18:28line, line, line, line.
18:29He's got a line, too big.
18:31Go.
18:32Saints are on pressure up front.
18:36Dart to Skadaboo
18:38out of the backfield.
18:39Turns it upfield
18:40and he's still going
18:41across midfield.
18:42He's got the first down
18:43and he goes out of bounds.
18:45What a job after the catch
18:47by Cam Skadaboo.
18:49A gain of 14.
18:52Really nice play
18:53by the two rookies
18:53right there.
18:54The Saints fool him
18:55on the pressure.
18:55Gets the ball out
18:56to Skadaboo in a flat.
18:58When he goes inside,
18:58I'm like, no, no,
18:59go outside, get out of bounds.
19:01And just the tough,
19:02hard-nosed running
19:03and how he finishes.
19:04You see the sideline there
19:06all fired up.
19:07When you run the ball
19:08that aggressive
19:09and with that mindset,
19:10it energizes
19:11the entire sideline.
19:12And how about
19:12the arm angle
19:13of Jackson Dart
19:14showing off
19:14a little baseball background
19:15to drop down
19:16and get it outside
19:17to Skadaboo.
19:21Dart.
19:23And he's got a completion.
19:24Slayton lost the football.
19:26Scooped up by Sanker
19:27on the return.
19:29And Sanker
19:30forced out by Singletary.
19:32A big turnover
19:34by Darius Slayton.
19:49One of the more dependable players
19:51for the Giants
19:52is Darius Slayton.
19:53But one of the better players
19:55for the Saints
19:56is the veteran DeMario Davis.
19:59Slayton has a nice catch.
20:00Davis with the punch out
20:01to allow Sanker
20:03for the pickup.
20:04Great job by Davis
20:05to get the ball out there
20:07and Sanker.
20:08He's become Johnny
20:08on the spot for this team
20:10the past two weeks
20:11at an interception
20:12off Josh Allen.
20:13Some good pass breakups
20:15and now picks up the fumble
20:16and scoops it
20:17and now sets up
20:18Spencer Rattler
20:19in scoring position.
20:20And two timeouts
20:21for the Saints
20:22to work with.
20:25Rattler.
20:25And it's caught
20:28at the 37-yard line.
20:30That's Olave.
20:31Bernie has five catches
20:32this afternoon.
20:36Rattler's going to have
20:36to be patient.
20:37I would assume the Giants
20:38play a lot of zone
20:39and force the ball
20:40underneath
20:41and not let one
20:41go over their head.
20:42Rattler to Cooks.
20:46His first catch today.
20:48Ripped down by
20:48Cordell Flott,
20:49the LSU product.
20:52And now approaching
20:5330 seconds to go.
20:54Kellen Moore is content
20:56not calling a timeout.
21:00Third and one.
21:02Rattler keeps it himself.
21:04Kamara out in front
21:05to block.
21:06Rattler's got the first
21:07and he runs out of bounds.
21:09An 11-yard gain
21:11for the New Orleans quarterback.
21:14And what a play
21:14by Kamara, guys.
21:16He gets the fake
21:17on the run
21:18and then watch
21:19who becomes
21:19the lead blocker.
21:21He went from tailback
21:22to fullback
21:23in a nanosecond.
21:25And Rattler finds
21:26the sideline.
21:27That keeps two timeouts
21:28in their pocket
21:29with 19 seconds to go.
21:31And now you've got
21:32to take the shot
21:32at the end zone
21:33if you're the Saints.
21:34Like, if I'm killing more,
21:35I'm dialing up
21:36some shot at the end zone
21:37right here
21:37to try and get
21:38these points on the board.
21:41Rattler to Johnson.
21:46He dropped it
21:47a little bit off his hip,
21:50but a ball that Johnson
21:51probably should have caught
21:53at that 15 seconds left.
21:55That's a tough one, Andrew,
21:56because Johnson's
21:57working to the sideline
21:58and that ball's
21:59on his inside hip
22:00having to turn back inside.
22:02That ball's supposed
22:02to hit him on the outside
22:03and take him over
22:04the sideline.
22:05So that's where
22:07those small inaccuracies
22:09add up
22:10to hurting you
22:11on offense.
22:12Spencer Rattler
22:13puts it in the right place.
22:14Johnson catches it,
22:15turns up field.
22:16Instead, it's second
22:17down and ten.
22:20Rattler
22:21to Kamara
22:22over the middle,
22:23takes a shot
22:23at the ten.
22:25Kellen Moore
22:25runs down the field
22:26to call a timeout
22:27with ten seconds to go.
22:35This was a punishing hit
22:37at the end of this run
22:39right there
22:40by Tyler Newben
22:41coming in to safety.
22:43And you can see Kamara
22:44kind of sat down
22:45for a second,
22:46but you've seen
22:47through the years
22:48if you're a Saints fan,
22:49he gets up
22:49as we look at
22:50Darius Slayton
22:50after the fumble,
22:51just having to regroup
22:53and be able to bounce back
22:54and his teammates
22:55encouraging.
22:56See the respect he gets
22:56Aaron Stinney
22:57over there
22:57trying to encourage him.
22:59But that hit by Newben,
23:00that was textbook
23:012025 tackling,
23:03wasn't it?
23:03A shoulder going
23:04into the body
23:05of the player,
23:06no head involved,
23:07exactly what the league
23:08and everyone who's
23:09playing the game
23:09of football today
23:10wants to see.
23:1211 seconds
23:12for the Saints now.
23:14One, maybe two shots
23:15at the end zone
23:16and then you're
23:17kicking the field goal.
23:18So now you're
23:18drawing up
23:19your best possible play.
23:20You're trying to
23:21indicate before the snap
23:22are they in man
23:23or are they in zone?
23:24And we have
23:26a stoppage
23:27and the Giants
23:28will call a timeout.
23:30They got to look
23:31at what the formation
23:32was and had an idea,
23:33okay, maybe we don't
23:34want to allow
23:35this defense
23:36in that one.
23:37Let's make them
23:37come to the sidelines
23:38and maybe go to
23:39something else.
23:40Yeah, well it was
23:40interesting because we
23:41saw Kamara motion
23:42out the backfield
23:43and Bobby O'Carike
23:44went to follow him.
23:45So you're Kellen Moore
23:46and you're like,
23:47all right, well if we're
23:47going to get Kamara
23:48out in space,
23:49I'd like a matchup
23:50on him and any
23:51linebacker in the NFL.
23:53So now you get a chance
23:54to go back,
23:55re-huddle,
23:55and we're going to see
23:56the Saints as they come
23:56out.
23:57There's going to be
23:58some type of shift
23:59or motion before the
24:00snap to determine,
24:01hey, what are the
24:02Giants playing?
24:02Are we getting man-to-man?
24:03Are we getting zone?
24:05And then Spencer Rattler
24:06is his job to get them
24:07in the best possible
24:08play to beat the
24:09coverage because this
24:10could be his only shot
24:11at the end zone
24:12before you bring
24:13Blake Groupie in
24:14for a field goal.
24:14And keep an eye
24:15on that man,
24:16Devon Vele,
24:176'5",
24:18210.
24:18He's a big target
24:20in the red zone
24:21acquired in a trade
24:22with Denver
24:23before the season.
24:25Here's Kamara
24:25and a great tackle
24:27is made
24:27by Paulson Adibo.
24:30And Kellen Moore
24:31has to call timeout
24:33and with five seconds
24:34to go,
24:36they're probably
24:36going to have
24:37to kick it here.
24:39I think you have
24:39to kick it.
24:40I mean,
24:41five seconds,
24:41that's just not enough
24:42time for me
24:43to feel comfortable
24:44if something goes
24:45a little haywire
24:45on the whole thing.
24:47I'm kicking the football
24:48right here
24:48and take it to points
24:49into the half.
24:51Why not throw that ball?
24:52They got it back to six.
24:53That helps.
24:54But why not throw that ball
24:55in the end zone?
24:56Right.
24:56And I think
24:57that play you call
24:58where you're expecting
24:59full-on man-to-man
25:00and you can sneak
25:01Kamara through
25:02through the offensive line
25:04and get him to the flat.
25:05But that was my thought
25:05process.
25:06The two plays,
25:07you might have had a shot
25:08at two of them.
25:09If you get the ball,
25:09you throw it to the end zone,
25:10it's incomplete.
25:11You may get one other shot.
25:13Right now,
25:13they're lining up
25:14six seconds ago.
25:15this has to be
25:16a fade or a quick
25:17ball seam down the middle
25:19to try to get it
25:19to the end zone
25:20right now.
25:21And out of timeouts.
25:23This one has to go
25:24to the end zone.
25:25It does.
25:25And it's incomplete.
25:26Over the head of Kamara,
25:28O'Kara K was back
25:29in coverage.
25:30And now,
25:31Blake Ruby
25:32will come out.
25:32So they avoided
25:35all the bad things
25:36that could happen
25:37in that situation
25:38to allow them
25:38to get that last field goal.
25:40But you take a sack there,
25:41half's over.
25:42Yep.
25:46Well,
25:47who knows what the Giants
25:48would have ended up doing
25:48on that drive,
25:49but they were already
25:50in field goal range
25:51when Slayton fumbled.
25:54And the Saints now,
25:56John,
25:56for what you think
25:57is at least a six-point swing,
25:58if not more,
26:00a 29-yard field goal
26:01attempt for grouping.
26:04And this one is good.
26:06And for the first time
26:07since week one
26:10in the first half,
26:12the Saints have a lead.
26:15250 minutes
26:17and five seconds
26:18since the last time
26:20the Saints were in front.
26:22They're up by two
26:23at the half.
26:25Halftime next
26:26after these first half highlights
26:27from Verizon
26:28and a word
26:29from your local station.
26:31I got this old thing
26:34and the bill
26:35from the store
26:36where I got it.
26:37Figured you could beat it
26:38with a better deal
26:39on one of these big boys.
26:40No, it doesn't work that way.
26:41Well, at Verizon,
26:42anyone can bring in
26:43their AT&T or T-Mobile bill
26:45and they'll give you
26:45a better deal.
26:46I thought Verizon was pricey.
26:47No.
26:47Better deal,
26:48best 5G network.
26:49Back to the TV.
26:50Does it come higher than 8K?
26:52Because I don't like to squint.
26:53Ma'am,
26:53take your TV and go.
26:54Bring your AT&T
26:55or T-Mobile bill
26:56to Verizon
26:57for a better deal.
26:58Guess you're not
26:58as cool as Verizon.
27:00You don't know that?
27:04The first half highlight
27:06delivered by Prime.
27:08Jackson Dart,
27:09not once,
27:09but twice
27:10to Theo Johnson.
27:13But Spencer Rattler
27:14going deep
27:15to Rashid Shahid.
27:17An 87-yard touchdown
27:19and at the half
27:20the Saints
27:21have the lead
27:21on the Giants.
27:24And back in the booth
27:26with Jason McCourty
27:27and Charles Davis.
27:28I'm Andrew Catalan.
27:29Giants got off
27:30to a great start
27:31but credit to the Saints
27:32taking advantage
27:33of some Giants' mistakes
27:34and Charles,
27:36they actually have the lead.
27:38Did you just say that out loud?
27:39I did.
27:40Is that for real?
27:40First time since week one.
27:41Here's the thing for me.
27:43The Saints hung in there
27:44because it looked like
27:45the Giants were putting
27:45the blitz on them.
27:46And then we talked
27:47about the top of the game
27:48how Alvin Kamara
27:49had to be a big part
27:50of the Saints' offense.
27:51He was.
27:51They targeted him
27:52in the pass game
27:53and to him in the run game.
27:54But bottom line is
27:55when this ball
27:56goes from a quarterback
27:57to a receiver
27:58deep downfield
27:59and it ends up
27:59in the end zone
28:00changes everything
28:01for you in a positive way
28:02quickly.
28:03The Giants had dominated
28:04the first half
28:05and just like that
28:05one big play
28:06and the Saints
28:07are right back in it.
28:08And if I'm Brian Dable
28:08and the Giants
28:09you look at it
28:10in this first half
28:10you played a good game.
28:12You had a deep shot
28:13called up.
28:13Jackson darts
28:14a little short on it.
28:15Not a completion.
28:16And then Darius Sling
28:17you fumble the ball
28:18at the end of half
28:18and that's why you're down.
28:20But a lot of positives
28:21that the Giants had
28:22in that first half.
28:25Remember the Saints
28:26won the toss
28:27and they took the ball
28:28so the Giants
28:29will get the kickoff
28:30to begin the second half.
28:36Banks and Osheski
28:37back deep
28:38to receive the kick
28:39from Blake Groupie
28:40and we're underway
28:41in the second half
28:42on CBS.
28:44Osheski from the 2.
28:47Across the 20
28:48has the 30
28:49and pinball down
28:50at the 36.
28:52A moment ago
28:53AJ caught up
28:54with Brian Dable.
28:55Coach, on the road
28:56in a noisy
28:57hostile environment
28:58what did you think
28:58about Jackson's poise
29:00and cadence
29:00in that first half?
29:02Yeah, I think
29:02Jackson's played well.
29:04Offensively
29:05we've got to do
29:05a couple things better.
29:06We've got to finish
29:07on the ball.
29:08And defense
29:08we've got to play better
29:09and our first down
29:10defense was just
29:10getting us to third
29:11and short
29:12and we're not
29:13converting
29:13on the defensive
29:14side of the football.
29:16Played good
29:16in the red zone.
29:18That turnover there
29:19hurt us at the end
29:19of the half.
29:20Thank you, Coach.
29:21Good luck.
29:21Thank you.
29:23Giants trying to end
29:24a seven-game
29:25road-losing streak.
29:26They haven't run
29:27away from home
29:27since week five
29:29of last year
29:29in Seattle.
29:33Dark throwing
29:34to begin the second half
29:35and Theo Johnson
29:36is tackled
29:37for a loss.
29:38Jonas Sankar
29:39such a talented rookie
29:41and he makes the play
29:43for a loss of two.
29:44Is that young man
29:45really developing fast,
29:46Jason?
29:47It's happening
29:47in a hurry
29:48and that's the thing
29:49about your rookie year.
29:50When you're thrown
29:50into a fire
29:51and injury happens
29:52and now you're forced
29:53into action
29:54and look at the speed
29:55for him to close
29:56and get to the ball
29:57right now
29:57and make a great tackle
29:58in the open field.
30:00We're seeing Sankar
30:00become a really good
30:01football player
30:02in front of our eyes
30:03as we've gotten a chance
30:04to see in the past three weeks.
30:05He's losing his rookie eyes
30:06too.
30:07Normally you take
30:07an extra beat
30:08to make sure it's happening.
30:09He trusted his eyes
30:10and triggered on that play.
30:12Five tackles
30:13and a fumble recovery
30:14today for the rookie.
30:16Dart on second and 12.
30:17He's got an open man.
30:18That's Slayton.
30:20Kool-Aid McKinstry
30:21makes the tackle
30:22to bring up third down.
30:24We look at the QB numbers
30:26from the first half
30:27and Jackson Dart
30:28two touchdown passes.
30:30Spencer Rattler
30:31the 87-yard touchdown
30:33pass to Shahid.
30:35And the 87-yard touchdown
30:37pass.
30:37That's the difference
30:38between the two quarterbacks
30:40where you can get a big play
30:40to get over the top
30:41to change and stuff.
30:44Granderson at the top
30:4596.
30:46Jordan at the bottom
30:4794.
30:48Their best pass rushers.
30:57Third and six.
30:58Scadaboo out of the backfield.
31:00Can he get to the line?
31:01And no.
31:02Good job by Jordan Howden
31:04who continues to play well
31:05in the absence of Justin Reed.
31:08That's a big time tackle.
31:10Open field.
31:11Cam Scadaboo
31:12who's used to breaking people down
31:14in the open field
31:14one-on-one
31:15and running right through
31:16their chest.
31:17Watch Howden.
31:18Takes him high.
31:19Hangs on.
31:20Hey, where's the posse?
31:21Come help me out here.
31:23And they did.
31:24Really nice job by Howden
31:25filling in for the injured
31:26Justin Reed.
31:27Now Brian Dable
31:28has just changed his mind.
31:29He sent out the punter
31:30Jamie Gillen.
31:31Now Gillen comes off
31:32and Dart is back on the field.
31:35Play clock is down to nine.
31:37It's fourth down and one.
31:38Let's see if the Giants
31:39go for it.
31:40You would think they would
31:41to preserve a timeout.
31:43They do.
31:44Wondell Robinson
31:45and he may have just
31:47gotten enough.
31:49That's going to be
31:50really close
31:51because if he got it
31:51it was on the extra
31:52extra effort.
31:53I thought he got
31:57stopped short
31:58on the initial contact.
32:00And there's the spot.
32:01It's a first down
32:02for the Giants.
32:04Woo!
32:06They entered the game
32:08just three for nine
32:09on four downs
32:10which was second worst
32:12in the NFL
32:12behind only New Orleans.
32:14See how he slid off
32:16that initial tackle
32:17and was able to get
32:18his body moved forward.
32:19Well done by
32:20Wondell Robinson.
32:21Dable Rose hit that.
32:22Nice.
32:22It pays off.
32:24Singletary running
32:24on first down
32:25into Saints territory.
32:28This has the feel
32:29of both sides
32:30wanting to be pretty
32:31bold today, doesn't it?
32:32Yeah.
32:32When you're 0-4
32:33in the Saints
32:34you're 1-3 in the Giants
32:35but the Giants
32:36feel a little extra
32:37momentum because
32:38of the change
32:38with Jackson Dart
32:39and you trust
32:40the defense for a
32:42sense in a sense
32:43with the Giants
32:43they feel like
32:44they're playing
32:44with a better D.
32:45I feel like both sides
32:46will take a few more
32:47I wouldn't even
32:48call them gambles.
32:49A few more chances
32:50the rest of the way.
32:52Singletary on second down
32:57and he sneaks through
32:59and they're going
33:00to spot him
33:01very close
33:01to a first down
33:02Carl Granderson
33:03on the tackle.
33:06Let's go back
33:07to New York
33:08it is a first down
33:10and we go to Adam Schein
33:11with an NFL Today update.
33:14Andrew Jalen Hurts
33:15to former Giants
33:16Saquon Barkley
33:17on a wheel wrap
33:18and then
33:19Saquon uses his wheels
33:21all Phillies
33:2217-3
33:23back to you.
33:25All right Adam
33:26thank you
33:27on first down
33:27Dart to the air
33:28was looking deep
33:29for Robinson
33:30not home
33:31he's got all day
33:31now he's going to run
33:33and he lost the football
33:34it slipped right out
33:35of his hands
33:36and the Saints have it
33:38Cameron Jordan
33:39recovers the fumble
33:41take another look
33:52as we go to break
33:53Dart
33:55nobody touched him
33:57it's Saints ball
33:58first turnover
34:06of Jackson Dart's career
34:07here's another look
34:08at it
34:09this is one of those
34:10plays you say
34:11as a rookie
34:12sometimes you're going
34:12to make that mistake
34:13when he goes to run
34:14you want those guys
34:15to tuck the ball away
34:16and carry it
34:17like a running back
34:18I'm not sure
34:18if it hits his leg
34:19if his other hand
34:20knocks it out
34:21but it's just him
34:22running with the football
34:23and he knocks himself
34:24and gives it Saints
34:25the ball back
34:26so this is the first time
34:28the Saints have run
34:29an offensive play
34:30with the lead
34:31and Burns threw it
34:32back to Rattler
34:33who then threw it
34:35Ryan Burns
34:37rejected it
34:39right to Rattler
34:40who made the catch
34:41and then Rattler
34:41threw it again
34:42trying to avoid the sack
34:44it's just going to be
34:44a penalty
34:45an eagle forward pass
34:48on number two
34:49both passes were forward
34:51five yard penalty
34:52from the previous spot
34:53lots of down
34:54second
34:54you don't see this often
34:57now it's off the face mask
34:59off the dome
35:00get it back
35:01I don't want it
35:01get it out of there
35:02well you know
35:05a five yard penalty
35:06was probably better
35:07than taking the sack
35:08right
35:09absolutely
35:10looked like he was
35:10a little deeper than that
35:11so it'll be second down in 15 for New Orleans
35:20remember Brian Daybol told AJ
35:22at the half we weren't winning first down defense
35:24that's winning first down defense there
35:27puts them in position for those great pass rushers
35:29to maybe have the effect on the game that they're looking for
35:31and Rattler
35:34with some confusion and the Saints are forced to call a timeout
35:39early in the third quarter
35:41so remember that one for later on
35:42you did see him signaling the sideline to run the play again
35:46did you see him when he was telling them
35:47give it to me again
35:49we'll step aside
35:51come right back after this on CBS
35:53let's take a look at the game flow
36:02presented by Progressive Insurance
36:05opening drive
36:06touchdown for the Giants
36:07start to Johnson
36:08they connected for two
36:10in the first half
36:12but the Saints have been missing that big play element in their offense
36:16Rashid Shaheed changes that
36:18late groupie
36:20with three field goals in the first half and it's a 16-14 Saints advantage
36:26out of the timeout second down in 15
36:33Rattler
36:34eludes the rush and locates Kendra Miller
36:38and Moussao is able to hold him up along the sideline for a gain of six
36:43Roy Robertson Harris
36:48came across the line and had a chance to bring down Rattler
36:51certainly did
36:53AJ you're down there on the Giants sideline
36:56what are you sensing from first half to second half with that team right now
36:59this is a team that is trying to gain control again obviously
37:03and after Jackson had that turnover I have to say all his teammates came over
37:08basically telling him let him roll
37:10let that roll off his back
37:11that same energy that he was giving in the first half
37:14they are reciprocating to him
37:15building him up
37:16giving him that confidence to go forward in the second half guys
37:19alright AJ third down and seven pressure coming
37:21Rattler throwing on the run
37:22Olave is open
37:23he found a soft spot in the Giants defense
37:27pushed out by Adebo but it's a first down
37:30and a gain of 17
37:32how about Olave here Jason because I think he sensed where his quarterback was moving
37:38so watch Olave because he's going to work from in here
37:41and watch him come across field
37:43see that he sees it knows where the quarterback is
37:46puts the hand up
37:47I've got an open spot
37:48give it to me
37:49Miller right side
37:51a stick down on Adebo his former teammate
37:55and then Moussa spins him out
37:57we talked off the top guys about this Giants pass rush
38:03and certainly have been getting in the backfield
38:05but no sacks yet for the Giants defense
38:07and they've been close and there's been a ton of pressures
38:09and Abdul Carter is a perfect example of that
38:12only a half sack on the season
38:14but a guy that leads them when it comes to quarterback pressures
38:17and forcing the ball out
38:19and Charles to your point on that third down
38:20Olave does a great job
38:22and then Spencer Rattler
38:23because Abdul Carter came around the edge clean
38:25and he was able to work outside of him to get that ball off
38:28Miller
38:29and he can't get the first down
38:32it'll be third down and two
38:34I think the Saints spotted that Dexter Lawrence is not in the ball game
38:37and thought that they could try the middle
38:39excellent job by the Giants defensive front
38:42closing everything down
38:43and making things muddy in there for the runner
38:45now Lawrence is back in the ball game for the Giants
38:49as we approach eight and a half to go in the third
38:53and he might be thinking this is four down territory
38:55I know the field goal is right there for him
38:58but he might be thinking bigger than that right here
39:00Taysom Hill at quarterback looking to throw to the end zone
39:03and it's short of the end zone
39:06but it's a first down
39:07Jawan Johnson
39:09and Taysom Hill is back
39:11and the fans love it
39:12a gain of 19
39:13you're going to see Jawan Johnson coming right down the edge right here
39:19and just a really good job by Taysom Hill
39:21you look at it and you're like
39:22throw the ball towards the end zone
39:23but there was a corner on the outside right there
39:25Adebo so he throws his short
39:27to bring Jawan Johnson back to the ball
39:30for a first down pick up
39:32yeah let him use his big body in front of the corner
39:34top box him out
39:35Rattler back in
39:37pitches it to Kamara
39:38but before the play
39:40there's a flag
39:42ball start
39:44number 68 offense
39:45five yard penalty
39:46first down
39:47it's on Torricelli Simpkins
39:49the undrafted rookie
39:51who's making the start today
39:52for the injured Cesar Ruiz
39:54he's really held up
39:58we saw Simpkins start
40:00up in Seattle at left guard
40:02there he is right there
40:03and then he had to play extensively
40:05at right guard in Buffalo
40:06and making another start here
40:09in his rookie season
40:09remember undrafted
40:11North Carolina Central
40:12and South Carolina
40:13center North Carolina Central
40:14and a guard at the University of South Carolina
40:16first in goal
40:20but now from the 12 yard line
40:22Kamara
40:23and he's tackled
40:25just inside the 10
40:27Jackson Darn
40:34hoping that turnover
40:35does not lead to a Saints touchdown
40:37see if the Giants defense
40:39can limit them to a field goal
40:41this is the spot
40:42you take the shot at the end zone
40:43if you're the Saints
40:44second down
40:45make your throw
40:46Rattler's pass
40:47deflected at the line
40:49and incomplete
40:49may have been big old
40:54Dexter Lawrence
40:55getting his hand up there
40:56and it's third and goal
40:57for the Giants
40:58yeah he keeps talking about us
41:01talking about these
41:01these edge rushers
41:02he's like
41:03what about me
41:04I had nine sacks last year
41:05I'm an all pro player
41:07in the middle
41:07don't forget about 97
41:09and Lawrence
41:11did not practice
41:12all week long
41:14because of an illness
41:15Brian Dable
41:15seemed pretty confident
41:16when he met with the Giants
41:18media back on Friday
41:20that Lawrence would play
41:21I think they have
41:23rested him a little bit
41:24more than normal today
41:25though
41:25we've noticed a few times
41:26him out of the ball game
41:27that I think may be
41:29attributed to that
41:30illness all week
41:30Drew Phillips was slow
41:34to get up
41:34so now Banks is in the game
41:36with flop
41:37and the slot right here
41:38replacing Phillips
41:39on third and goal
41:43Rattler
41:45running right
41:47chased by Carter
41:47throws to the end zone
41:48incomplete
41:49looking for Jawan Johnson
41:51and Dane Belton
41:52had the coverage
41:52and that's a big stop
41:54by the Giants defense
41:55and you wonder about
41:56that false start penalty
41:57too
41:58contributing here
41:59by the goal line
42:00the Giants get down here
42:02and they go man to man
42:03Belton matched up
42:04right there on Jawan Johnson
42:05what you love from him
42:06is for the most part
42:08he stays underneath
42:09when you get down
42:10close to the end zone
42:11it always has to be
42:12receiver
42:13defender
42:14and then the quarterback
42:15you have to stay
42:16between that
42:17doesn't matter if he
42:18catches the ball
42:18in the end zone
42:19and you make a tackle
42:20really good job
42:21by Dane Belton
42:21on that route
42:2228-yard field goal
42:23attempt for Blake
42:24Groupie
42:25and he is good
42:27for the fourth time
42:28today
42:28he's now four out of five
42:31and the Saints
42:32increased their lead
42:33to five
42:33Dart
42:36set to come back
42:38out on the field
42:38here in New Orleans
42:39Saturday on CBS
42:47a big time matchup
42:48in Eugene
42:49between seventh ranked
42:50Indiana
42:50and number three
42:52Oregon
42:52college football
42:53today gets us started
42:54at 2.30 Eastern
42:56Saturday on CBS
42:57and streaming
42:58on Paramount Plus
43:00and how about this
43:01this week
43:01Abdul Carter
43:03who played
43:03at Penn State
43:04yeah he lost a bet
43:06with Kavon Thibodeau
43:07had to wear
43:08Oregon gear
43:09when he met
43:10with the media
43:11and we met with Carter
43:12yesterday afternoon
43:13he said it's
43:14no big deal
43:15it's just one game
43:16well
43:16now it's two games
43:18after what UCLA
43:19did to them yesterday
43:20hope we didn't have
43:21a UCLA fan
43:22well the Giants
43:25have had
43:26their chances today
43:27but a number
43:28of miscues
43:29have set them back
43:30this was the end
43:31of the second quarter
43:32they're going to
43:32Fleet Flicker
43:33on the third
43:34is short
43:34and he has
43:35Slade open
43:36leaves it short
43:37and they come back
43:38Slade catches the ball
43:39they're driving
43:39in a two minute situation
43:40and he fumbles
43:42the ball
43:42they come out
43:43of half
43:44and then Jackson
43:44darts
43:45like each person
43:46has taken
43:46their own opportunity
43:47to give the ball away
43:49on a miscue
43:50everybody trying so hard
43:52sometimes you have
43:53that little extra
43:54and you run yourself
43:56into your own errors
43:57Scadaboo runs it
44:02on first down
44:03and Scadaboo
44:04with a nice run
44:05stretching out
44:05for seven yards
44:06to Mario Davis
44:08on the tackle
44:09look at Scadaboo's jersey
44:11I mean
44:11you know what that is
44:12don't you
44:12that's the ball
44:14that's grit
44:15yeah
44:15that's the ball
44:16that's what that is
44:16that's grit
44:17you see all that
44:18that's the ball
44:19coming out
44:19he's keeping it
44:20high and tight
44:21and as tough
44:22a runner as he is
44:23there's a little
44:24niftiness to him
44:24as well
44:25you gotta keep an eye
44:26on him
44:26when he breaks out
44:27in open field
44:28picks up the first
44:29down here
44:30what I've loved
44:31about this
44:32Giants offense
44:33it's been
44:33so many sets
44:35with multiple
44:35tight ends
44:36on the field
44:37and we've seen
44:37them run the ball
44:38we've seen them
44:38target tight ends
44:39that hasn't been
44:40something that
44:41this offense
44:42has really majored
44:43in the last few
44:44years
44:44of targets
44:45and just
44:46participation
44:47of those guys
44:48on the field
44:49so it's been
44:49impressive to see
44:50Mike Kafka
44:51who just showed
44:52what he's been
44:52able to do
44:53with this offense
44:54from a creativity
44:55standpoint
44:55with Jackson
44:56Darvin there
44:57just an adjustment
44:57with Malik
44:58neighbors being out
44:59dark plenty of time
45:02great protection
45:03now he's gonna try
45:05to run it right
45:05up the middle
45:06and he
45:06gets a couple
45:08on the play
45:08you're talking
45:09about Mike Kafka
45:10and he spent
45:11five seasons
45:11on the Kansas
45:13City Chiefs
45:13coaching staff
45:14including
45:15the offensive
45:16quality control
45:17coach in
45:182017
45:18during Patrick
45:19Mahomes
45:20his rookie
45:20year
45:20and he told
45:21us yesterday
45:21that he took
45:23a lot of notes
45:24as a young
45:24coach
45:25and reviewed
45:25them all
45:26from his time
45:27with Mahomes
45:27and he said
45:28that what he
45:29remembers
45:30from his time
45:31with Mahomes
45:32that is now
45:32translating now
45:33have patience
45:34don't overload
45:36dark
45:36but make sure
45:37you prep him
45:38and if he makes
45:39a mistake
45:39make sure
45:40he grows
45:41from it
45:41made a mistake
45:42on the last drive
45:43see if he can
45:44grow here
45:45as he hands
45:45off to
45:46Scadaboo
45:46to the 25
45:48yard line
45:49and to your point
45:53when you talk
45:54about him growing
45:54we see this drive
45:55they put the ball
45:57in Cam Scadaboo's
45:58hand
45:58a ton right now
45:59of settling
46:00this thing down
46:01run the football
46:02and now
46:03this is where
46:03you need
46:04to make
46:04the plays
46:05those third
46:06down situations
46:07where you may
46:07need to scramble
46:08you may need
46:09to read the defense
46:10right away
46:10and get the ball
46:11out of your hands
46:11but make it
46:12the necessary play
46:13to move the chains
46:14let's see if
46:14Brandon Staley
46:15wants to get a little
46:16exotic with him
46:17with what he throws
46:17at him on defense
46:18here
46:19dart off his back
46:22foot completes
46:22it to Bellinger
46:23and he's got
46:24a first down
46:24Daniel Bellinger
46:27at three catches
46:28all year
46:28that's his fourth
46:29today
46:30but he's got
46:30he's got
46:31a second
46:47but here's a
46:49big deal
46:49that's my
46:50thing
46:51that's my
46:51framework
