For nearly a year after Helene tore a North Carolina family's world apart, they lived out of bags and borrowed beds. But now, just feet from their destroyed dream home, they have a new beginning.

00:00Yeah this is this is what we've been waiting for and even though we've been
00:06expecting this for a long time, it still doesn't really seem good to hear their
00:13story how they literally were you know the house slid off the foundation the
00:18hole and blew out with the floodwaters and they and they were floating and
00:22literally inside their house and finally made the decision that they had to cut
00:26through the roof and finding whatever they could you know a putty knife a
00:30flashlight they hacked their way through the roof and were there for some hours
00:34before they were rescued by boat and you know to hear their I mean the whole thing
00:38was very harrowing and then being in the shelter you know shivering cold and wet
00:42with their all their you know pets. We found our forever home and in the course
00:48of a morning that changed everything. We came to the last house and it's this house
00:53than we are right now we find probably was around 10 people cleaning cleaning the
00:58ground and we came down from the truck and we say to them who we wore and then
01:03we was coming with supplies and what they need and they said we need everything we
01:08lost everything. That's a lot of kids growing up in this house I mean 13 years you
01:13know nothing nothing in our hearts will ever replace that house except for this
01:19one because this is going to be just as much of a home for us as that one was
01:23and that's I mean that's the best that we could possibly wish for when you lost
01:31everything and somebody offer you a honey something deep inside of you then
01:35start fixing. To see that joy come over them is just so magical. Oh lordy. Sabrina? Sabrina!
01:49It was beautiful to see him look in the window and just be like so stunned and
01:54overcome with joy and then he called for his wife to come. Oh my goodness. You know the
02:02kitchen and the porch were the places where we spent time you know catching up on
02:07each other's lives in each other's days. Oh my god! You know we've been fortunate
02:13enough to be housed the entire time but there's there's I mean there's just a
02:19difference between being housed and being home and this this right here means we
02:25get to come home again. Welcome home friends! Oh we're going to have a celebration. Thank you!
02:32Thank you!
