The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV blends cutting-edge tech with classic design. From a sleek illuminated grille and panoramic smart roof to a 39-inch Hyperscreen and 4D sound system
Transcript
00:00This is the 2027 Mercedes GLC 400 with EQ technology, otherwise known as the electric
00:22GLC, the battery-powered version of Mercedes' best-selling vehicle. As you can see, it looks
00:28a lot like the gasoline GLC. It's the same height and width, a little bit longer, a little more
00:32wheelbase to accommodate the 94 kilowatt hour battery. Also gives you a little bit more rear
00:37seat room, but the biggest spotting feature is this really cool light-up grille that does these
00:41neat hello and goodbye animations, and if you press on this Mercedes logo, you find it has
00:47an actual frunk. Look at that, big enough to actually put stuff in, but the really cool stuff
00:52is on the inside, so let's go take a look. Lots of cool stuff to see in here. This is
00:58the top-of-the-line model, which has this optional 39.1-inch panoramic display that goes, look
01:03at that, vent-to-vent, mirror-to-mirror, really cool. And you can change the modes, let's see,
01:08and if you dial in different modes, the screen changes, but also the ambient LED lighting changes.
01:15This does other cool stuff, like it'll flash along with the music or give you warnings about
01:19cars beside you or things like that. Also really neat is this beautiful panoramic roof. Right
01:24now we have it in opaque mode. Look at the stars, those change color too, those little Mercedes stars.
01:28You can make it go clear, and it's got a foiled something or other in there that protects you
01:34against heat as well as cold. And another nifty option is that you can get an optional vegan
01:40certified or certified vegan interior. This, of course, is the good old-fashioned non-vegan leather
01:46and a beautiful 16-speaker Burmeister stereo. And look at these beautiful speaker grills they have
01:51and this door handle, which is supposed to look like it was made from a chunk of aluminum billet.
01:56Also, these wireless charging pads, see these little holes? They're ventilated, so your phone won't overheat
02:02when you charge it. It's like Mercedes took every thoughtful touch they had and threw it at this electric
02:07GLC. Now because this is a family SUV, the backseat matters, so let's give ourselves a little
02:13mystic coast lighting. And check out that backseat. Yeah, good amount of room back here.
02:19As I said earlier, this has a slightly longer length and slightly longer wheelbase than the
02:23gasoline version of the GLC, and that translates to a little bit of extra room for backseat passengers.
02:29The floor is a little high because, of course, the battery is down there, but the seat is high enough
02:33that at least shorter people like me get some good thigh support. And, of course, plenty of headroom.
02:37That was important to Mercedes to give it this aerodynamic roof line while still making sure that tall
02:41people could be accommodated comfortably.
02:45Out back, we have this nice fast roof line which improves aerodynamics. And if you press on this
02:50star, you open it up to a nice big storage area, which is what you need from an SUV. This solid cargo
02:56floor is removable, so you can have it in a lower mode to give you more space or this higher mode
03:01to give you a flat floor.
03:03Now, we haven't been able to drive the GLC yet. They did take us for a ride in an early prototype,
03:09and we were very impressed by the refinement, how quiet it was, and the smooth ride from this air
03:14suspension, which is derived from the S-Class. Also has four-wheel steering, by the way, which
03:19tightens up the turning radius, makes it very easy to park. The GLC 400 will go on sale in late 2026
03:27as a 2027 model. Pricing, we don't know that yet. Also, we don't know the range either. We're guessing
03:32from the WLTP numbers, probably be somewhere in the low to mid 300s. In EPA testing, we do know
03:39it has an 800-volt architecture. Mercedes says it will fast charge from 10% to 80% in less
03:44than 24 minutes. Not as quick as some of the 800-volt Hyundais, but not bad. Incidentally,
03:50this is the 483-horsepower 400 model. There will also be a 369-horsepower single-motor model
03:57called the GLC 300. That one will join the lineup in late 2027. So, for more about the electric
04:04GLC or the gasoline GLC or all Mercedes or all things automotive, visit us on the web at
