00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Six games on tonight's Match of the Day, featuring two of last season's top three and all of the promoted sides.
00:00:57A new face in the studio as well. Hello. And I've already been told about the significance of the running order.
00:01:03Presumably that's why I'm third. Always first on any team sheet, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards are here.
00:01:09And for the first game, Manchester City began their season with a convincing 4-0 win away at Wolves.
00:01:15Thomas Frank's Tottenham were today's visitors and Spurs have a great record at the Etihad.
00:01:20Guy Mowbrie, watch this one.
00:01:21City's opening day show was almost matched by Spurs' own breeze past Burnley.
00:01:29Pep Guardiola needs no prompting about the test for his team today.
00:01:32A 4-0 Spurs victory here last season.
00:01:35And Thomas Frank's Brentford have been victorious here in the recent past as well.
00:01:40For Manchester City, two changes to their line-up.
00:01:43Omar Mamouche and Rayan Shirky replace Spenado Silva and Jeremy Doku.
00:01:47James Trafford continues in goal with Edison on the bench, joined by Phil Foden and Rodri.
00:01:53Two differences with the Spurs' 11 also, both coming in midfield.
00:01:58Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palinha come in for Archie Gray and Lucas Bergwahl.
00:02:05It's a very attacking-looking Manchester City line-up this afternoon.
00:02:10Haaland, of course, the figurehead at the top.
00:02:12Haaland comes to receive, under real pressure though.
00:02:18He lost the ball and in stretching, do you keep it in his possession?
00:02:22He has fouled Richarlis.
00:02:25It's the harassing of Christian Romero that caused the problem for Haaland.
00:02:30Spurs just having slightly the better of the opening few minutes here.
00:02:33It doesn't look as though this will be anything other than a Porro shot on goal.
00:02:39Porro puts it straight into the wall, then rockets one back.
00:02:43Always wide, but it flew.
00:02:46Pedro Porro was a scorer.
00:02:48One of the Spurs' four here last November.
00:02:50Romero, just a little nudge on Haaland.
00:02:57Now look at Mahmoush getting in.
00:02:59And trying to find the angle, wasn't far away.
00:03:02A little bit of miscommunication between Pedro Porro and Guglielmo Vicario.
00:03:08Mahmoush very nearly profited.
00:03:12Guardiola has lost nine games in management against Spurs.
00:03:15He's only been on the wrong end of results more often against Liverpool.
00:03:19Ten defeats to them.
00:03:21Again, it's had its moments, but never really got going as a whole.
00:03:25Haaland.
00:03:28Get through.
00:03:29Left Polina on the floor.
00:03:31The ball is played through, and that's a five-block save by Vicario,
00:03:34who is alert and alive every time.
00:03:40By accident or design, it was a nice ball through from Haaland to Mahmoush.
00:03:45Eight goals for Romero Marmoush after joining halfway through last season.
00:03:50All of them came at home.
00:03:54Now Richarlison has gone through, and look at Johnson steaming in on the other side.
00:03:59And Johnson scored!
00:04:01But now the flag goes up.
00:04:03Many Spurs celebrations have come very short indeed.
00:04:07Very quick decision made by assistant referee Blake Antrobus.
00:04:12I think the Spurs bench are reasonably confident that Richarlison might have been onside here.
00:04:24Over to Semi-Automated to do its stuff.
00:04:28The decision's been made.
00:04:29And it is Manchester City now.
00:04:35Tottenham Hotspur won.
00:04:40Brennan Johnson follows up a goal against Burnley last Saturday,
00:04:44with a huge one at City.
00:04:46Benton Cook.
00:04:54That time Richarlison was offside.
00:04:57Kudus isn't.
00:04:58Kudus stopped by Trafford, who has to react quickly again to stop Richarlison.
00:05:03He was looking at a gaping goal there.
00:05:06And that's brilliant work from Pedro Aparo.
00:05:08He's down just inside the area.
00:05:09Nothing happening yet.
00:05:17It's now being pulled over as Oscar Bob tries to break the Manchester City.
00:05:21Riff-roaring in to the first half here.
00:05:27I don't know where did any offence, if there was one, take place.
00:05:31I think it's just outside the box.
00:05:32It is.
00:05:35So there's nothing more to check.
00:05:39James Trafford catching Kudus outside the area.
00:05:43Got a bit of the ball as well.
00:05:45Being looked at to see whether that might have constituted handball just outside the box.
00:05:50Tough one to give, I think.
00:05:53Not sure anybody really knows anymore.
00:05:59Nacan can't fully stop the cross.
00:06:01Ruben Diaz did.
00:06:02Spurs corner.
00:06:03Spurs looking to double their lead before the break.
00:06:07Spurs on top now.
00:06:0845th minute of the game.
00:06:09Kudus on the corner.
00:06:15Trafford pushes everybody out of his way.
00:06:18It's going to be a goal kick.
00:06:21There was a feeling in his first Premier League season with Burnley that James Trafford could be pressured.
00:06:27Two years older and wiser now, but that wasn't very wise.
00:06:30This is Richarlison.
00:06:32A recovery.
00:06:33But Spurs now do double their lead.
00:06:35And Pellinia has his first goal for them.
00:06:46Trafford's initial mistake.
00:06:47It looked as though he might have atoned for it at first.
00:06:50It's a rotten pass out.
00:06:54But Spurs stayed so switched on here.
00:06:56Look at Richarlison buzzing around again.
00:06:58He couldn't score.
00:07:00He couldn't score.
00:07:01Pellinia via a deflection certainly could.
00:07:04Manchester City nil.
00:07:05Tottenham Hotspur two.
00:07:06Plenty for Edgerton's thoughts.
00:07:15Here's Bob.
00:07:17Wonderful.
00:07:17Everybody didn't really believe it as he fell himself.
00:07:21He has got a corner though.
00:07:22Short wants a ball.
00:07:31Cherking.
00:07:33Lifting it in for Haaland.
00:07:35But he can't get over it.
00:07:39It's his first chance to net today.
00:07:44Not how they planned their afternoon to go.
00:07:46Manchester City start the second half with a big job to do.
00:07:52Moosha will have to give up the chase for that one though.
00:08:02Haaland's following Vicario.
00:08:03Here is Haaland.
00:08:05But he couldn't play the pass.
00:08:06Cherky trying to make the most of it.
00:08:08And now the whistle goes in Spurs' favour.
00:08:11Something jittery about that penalty area.
00:08:19Vicario didn't really help out van der Venn.
00:08:21But Haaland did not help out Cherky.
00:08:25He then barged into João Pellinia.
00:08:32Kudos.
00:08:38Pedro Porro.
00:08:39It's a beauty.
00:08:39Richarlison might have done better with it.
00:08:43Really good ball in.
00:08:45And pretty well defended.
00:08:46Rico Lewis doing just enough.
00:08:49I wonder if Richarlison...
00:08:51Got his timing a little bit out.
00:08:57Here's Bob.
00:08:59Bob breaks past the challenge of Romero.
00:09:01Which has been ruled a foul.
00:09:02Free kick City.
00:09:03So it's going to be Bernardo Silva.
00:09:13Once a goalkeeper.
00:09:14Being afforded a little bit of room on his line.
00:09:17Bernardo Silva with the whip.
00:09:19And it's wide.
00:09:20Oh, it looked as though it was a point blank range chance for Ruben Diaz.
00:09:26Oh, it comes off van der Venn.
00:09:28Takes it away from him.
00:09:29Brilliant defending.
00:09:30Dock it.
00:09:34Foden held his run.
00:09:38Won't be able to react in time to beat Romero to the ball.
00:09:40And it has gone behind for a corner.
00:09:52Foden fires it.
00:09:54And it's headed straight at Vicario.
00:09:57First touch for Rodri.
00:09:58Wouldn't that have been a story?
00:09:59Well, that was Manchester City's first effort on target in the second half.
00:10:05And it came with 76 minutes played.
00:10:09Spurs fans regaling their departing hosts with a chant of Manchester City.
00:10:15It's happened again.
00:10:18Rodri.
00:10:19And he's given that one too.
00:10:20Solanke, who's got Odebeer with him.
00:10:22Solanke, I think, will take up the shot if he can.
00:10:25He can.
00:10:26Now it's Odebeer.
00:10:27And Trafford makes two saves.
00:10:31Manchester City look a tight team.
00:10:33And inevitably they will get hit on the break.
00:10:36Comes back towards Reinders.
00:10:38But Bergwijn will let it go.
00:10:39And it will be thumped forward by Pedro Porro.
00:10:42And what about this?
00:10:44Two wins out of two.
00:10:45The Tottenham Hotspur to start the Premier League season for the first time in four years.
00:10:52The Frank era is off and running.
00:10:55City nil.
00:10:56Spurs two.
00:10:58Came in to the club and I saw a strong mentality in the players.
00:11:02A strong togetherness.
00:11:03But a big thing in these games, stay in the game.
00:11:05Keep doing what you want to do.
00:11:07And then we just got our foot in the game.
00:11:10And I think the second half were exceptional in many ways.
00:11:13We kept the high pressure.
00:11:15We went up.
00:11:15It was aggressive.
00:11:16And we constantly went for the 3-0 goal, which we unfortunately didn't get.
00:11:20Pressing, harrying.
00:11:21It's all very, very Thomas Frank.
00:11:24How have you taken to his new methods?
00:11:26Yeah, I think as you can see, the boys are trying to get it as much as they can, I think,
00:11:30today.
00:11:31Even though we got a lot of opportunities from it, I think there's still bits that we can
00:11:35improve, especially in the pressing and the shape.
00:11:38So, yeah, we're loving it at the minute and more to learn and hopefully better things
00:11:43to come.
00:11:43I think we miss the simple things individually and even collectively.
00:11:47It's not blame absolutely, but simple things, the passes, what you have to do, we miss a
00:11:51lot.
00:11:52But I know the physicality they have.
00:11:54We were close in the transition, but we lose the simple things.
00:11:57A lot of balls we lose.
00:11:58Is it a win, just a win, or is it a statement win?
00:12:01It's probably one of the better ones.
00:12:03Yes, and coming here to Jetiette against Pep City is a very tough task.
00:12:09So, a win here is, of course, a top one.
00:12:11It's about taking one game at a time and put as many top performers and this magical moment
00:12:17in and then see where we are.
00:12:20Alan, it was a really good win for Tottenham and a second-half performance that Thomas Frank
00:12:24called exceptional.
00:12:25What differences have you seen since he's come in?
00:12:28Well, they've been adaptable, that's for sure.
00:12:30They've played a different midfield today than they did last week.
00:12:33Four at the back again.
00:12:34But I could have done analysis on so many good things all over the park for Tottenham.
00:12:40Defensively midfield or even up front, how they made the runs in behind.
00:12:44But it was a midfield masterclass from those three.
00:12:49So, Benton, Kurt and Polinja.
00:12:51They pressed, they were aggressive.
00:12:54They invited the short pass so they could do that, which then, if they're going to play
00:12:58that high, which the centre-halves had to do onto Haaland, Romero did that.
00:13:02And Micah will talk about the two defenders after I've done my bit here.
00:13:07But that's exactly, if they didn't win the first tackle, they won the second tackle.
00:13:12That was a constant all afternoon from those three.
00:13:15And I said last week about them being slightly more direct.
00:13:19This is a great example of it.
00:13:20Again, that's a long ball into one of your midfielders, who's really high.
00:13:25A brilliant timed run from Richarlas.
00:13:27And now you're thinking, can he do the rest of it and put it on a plate for John?
00:13:31So he did exactly that.
00:13:32And that is an excellent goal.
00:13:34Really well worked.
00:13:36And they're actually saying to Manchester City here, play here at your peril.
00:13:40If you don't get it right, the way we are and how aggressive we're going to punish you.
00:13:44And they did.
00:13:45And it was a huge mistake from City to try and play out there when they were at it the way they were.
00:13:51Tackles, blocks.
00:13:53Look about this from Polina again.
00:13:55He could be a fantastic sign-in for Tottenham Hotspur.
00:13:58So many last-ditch tackles.
00:14:01The timing of them were absolutely perfect.
00:14:03Romero, another crunch and tackle.
00:14:06That was a constant all afternoon.
00:14:08And just have a look at there where there's just no way through.
00:14:12And have a look where Sarr comes from here.
00:14:15He started just outside his own 18-yard box.
00:14:18Late in the game, look where he actually ends up.
00:14:21And Johnson should actually play him in here.
00:14:23And he doesn't.
00:14:24You can see the reaction from him when he chooses to shoot.
00:14:27Because where he's come from to where he sort of ended up.
00:14:29And that was typical of Tottenham Hotspur.
00:14:32What a start he's made.
00:14:34And that sort of tells you, those numbers there tell you how they absolutely dominated that midfield battle to date.
00:14:40All three of them were magnificent.
00:14:42It really was.
00:14:42It was great to watch.
00:14:44And, Micah, one of the other differences between last season and this one is that they now have a fit and fully functioning defence.
00:14:50Yeah, I think Van der Ven was injured a lot last season.
00:14:54Romero was excellent today.
00:14:55I want to talk a little bit more about the back four and their distances.
00:14:58I thought they were really exceptional.
00:15:00At times, they had to weather the storm, of course, away at Manchester City.
00:15:04It's always going to be difficult.
00:15:06But they always knew where they needed to be.
00:15:09You see, Ake's got the ball there.
00:15:11And these positions are absolutely perfect.
00:15:14And as soon as he gets his head up there, they're dropping.
00:15:18And one drops, then the other one comes around if he can't get there.
00:15:23And the goalkeeper, Vicario, is in a really good position.
00:15:27Composure, Porro, it was excellent.
00:15:29But not only that, Allen showed them being aggressive.
00:15:33Again, here, against Haaland, Romero, nice and tight.
00:15:37The next one's my favourite one.
00:15:38In his one-on-one positions here, Spence, he's showing and dictating where he wants Bob to go.
00:15:44Footwork is fantastic.
00:15:46And can he get past him?
00:15:48No.
00:15:48They're shutting it out.
00:15:49So all the defence were doing the perfect job.
00:15:52And look at this for a header.
00:15:53We've got a replay on this one.
00:15:55Just from Van der Venne there.
00:15:58Putting his body on the line, which you need to do when you go to the Etihad.
00:16:02Again, Romero talking about breaking a line.
00:16:04Can you break a line with a pass?
00:16:06Get Spurs on the front foot.
00:16:09Allen mentioned defensively, midfield and attack.
00:16:12That was all on their game today.
00:16:14And when they needed to do this, they did it in abundance.
00:16:17Not only that, Romero again.
00:16:20Coming out, stepping out.
00:16:21And it was just a perfect performance.
00:16:23Man City had chances.
00:16:25A couple of Haaland probably should have scored.
00:16:27But when they needed to dig deep, they did.
00:16:29And look at this for games.
00:16:31You look at the average goals.
00:16:33I mean, talk about defenders breaking lines to score more.
00:16:36And when Van der Venne and Romero play together, they concede more.
00:16:39They win just a little bit more than double.
00:16:43There's a very exclusive club, a very small club of managers
00:16:47who've managed to beat Pep Guardiola twice with different clubs.
00:16:52And Thomas Frank joins Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
00:16:56Spurs and Daniel Levy in particular get a lot of criticism
00:16:58for some of the decisions that they make.
00:17:00Should we be praising them in this instance for sacking a manager
00:17:03who brought long-awaited silverware and replacing them with Frank?
00:17:07That was a huge call for the football club to make.
00:17:11And they said that at the time it was a really difficult decision.
00:17:14But once they made it, they can't look back.
00:17:16They'd won the trophy and say, OK, they've then got to provide this manager,
00:17:19which they're trying to do.
00:17:21All right, they might have had a slightly disappointing window
00:17:23with one or two turning them down.
00:17:25But I heard Thomas Frank say today,
00:17:27if players don't want to play for us, fine, forget them.
00:17:29We'll move on.
00:17:30And he's made a brilliant start to his Tottenham career.
00:17:32Excellent.
00:17:33It's a good end to what could have been a very difficult week for Tottenham
00:17:35after Arsenal gazumped them to make Eberechi Eze their latest big-money signing.
00:17:41And it was a low-key introduction at his new home.
00:17:44The England forward joins from Crystal Palace in a deal worth £60 million.
00:17:50Steve Wilson was at the Emirates.
00:17:52At the end of a really good week for Arsenal,
00:17:58Mikel Arteta makes a couple of changes.
00:18:00Ben White's injured, replaced by Jurian Timber.
00:18:03And Matt Wake is in for Martinelli.
00:18:0515-year-old Max Downman's on the bench for the first time in a league game.
00:18:09No secret that he is tipped for big things.
00:18:11Ethan Ampadu missing for Leeds with a knee injury.
00:18:14Real blow there.
00:18:15In comes Ilya Gruev.
00:18:17That's the only change from the win over Everton.
00:18:19Noah Okafor, signed this week from AC Milan, is on the bench.
00:18:23Goodmanson's header.
00:18:32Timber just losing out to Nonto,
00:18:34then trying to drag the ball away from the Leeds man.
00:18:37Arsenal had to throw it, quickly taken.
00:18:39Odegaard is knocked over.
00:18:43Anton Schlaff knew exactly what he was doing there.
00:18:47Schlaff knew that he didn't want Martin Odegaard
00:18:50advancing towards the edge of the penalty area.
00:18:53Declan Rice to take.
00:19:00Off go the heads.
00:19:02And it's a goal kick to Leeds.
00:19:06Players from both sides wearing black armbands today
00:19:08as a tribute to the former Arsenal board member Richard Carr
00:19:12who passed away earlier this month.
00:19:18Well, that's dodgy.
00:19:20Oh, it's put wide by Jokeres.
00:19:22Goodness me, Leeds are fortunate.
00:19:27Played to Anton Stack by Pascal Straub.
00:19:30And it was straight to Jokeres.
00:19:34I'm not sure he quite realised how much time he had.
00:19:37He seemed to hurry it.
00:19:38James, Bogle's overlap, Calafiore's block.
00:19:43Leeds corner.
00:19:43Good pace on that.
00:19:52Good delivery.
00:19:53Good save.
00:19:56It's a brilliant contact from Pascal Straub.
00:19:58And very good reactions from David Dreyer.
00:20:03So much pace on the header.
00:20:05Well, he got his hand up quickly and it was a strong hand.
00:20:08I thought it said Spurs, that top.
00:20:14There's where he...
00:20:16I can assume he doesn't.
00:20:22Martin Odegaard down here for Arsenal.
00:20:24He would be at the top of the list of players Arsenal would not want to lose.
00:20:29This is what happened to Odegaard.
00:20:32That was some time ago, but clearly his shoulder is bothering him.
00:20:39The skipper is replaced with 27 minutes played.
00:20:44Or is he?
00:20:45No.
00:20:45He's going to be coming back.
00:20:48Odegaard back on.
00:20:49Unbeaten leads in 11 games in all competitions.
00:20:55But their record here is not great.
00:20:58Madweke, Calafiore.
00:21:01Took behind corner kick Arsenal off the head of Ronan.
00:21:08Dettlin Rice with this Arsenal corner kick.
00:21:14Which is Clanskin.
00:21:17Durian Timbers got that one.
00:21:20Arsenal and set pieces.
00:21:23Again.
00:21:25Nobody does it better.
00:21:29It's a really good delivery.
00:21:31Just needed a touch.
00:21:34And there was too much pace on it for anyone in blue to react.
00:21:39Well, it does look now as though Odegaard is going to be coming off.
00:21:44Which is certainly a disappointment for Arsenal.
00:21:47Eight minutes shy of half-time.
00:21:49Big test for Arsenal at Anfield next week.
00:21:52And Martin Odegaard's participation in it might be in doubt.
00:21:55Zubomendy.
00:21:56Zubimendi, Valeri's turn, Gruev good challenge, Reisvader put him off, that's nicely into
00:22:12Saka, it's three now, great time to score, added time at the end of the first half, and
00:22:21a really good finish from Saka, Gruev was caught by Reis, that's a lovely weighted ball into
00:22:30Bukayo Saka, from Timba, a glance, and then a stunning finish really, and Arsenal have
00:22:41a two goal advantage.
00:22:43Jokeres here, has he timed this run, I think he has, flag has stayed down for the moment,
00:22:59Jokeres, he's done really well, and puts it in the net, and the flag stays down, that's
00:23:07a huge moment for him, it's a really good goal too, Victor Jokeres with his first for Arsenal,
00:23:15just onside, timed the run really well, and then finished, in fine style.
00:23:26Well it's Arsenal 3, it's Leeds 0, but perhaps more importantly, the man on whom so much
00:23:40hope has been hung for Arsenal, he's off and running.
00:23:47Saka, Calafiori, and still, and a good block by Roden.
00:23:53Saka is now down for Arsenal, well, Havertz last week, Odegaard in the first 45 minutes,
00:24:11and now Saka.
00:24:16Well, if that is his left hamstring, Saka won't be playing at Anfield next week.
00:24:36Not so dispossessed.
00:24:39Ranieri!
00:24:41Deflected away for a corner.
00:24:54Rice with the corner kick, on the button again, can they force it over the line?
00:24:58They can.
00:25:00Timber's done it again.
00:25:01Well, it was tumbling around like it was in a cement mixer.
00:25:11Suspicion of handball, maybe, by Saliba, it's been looked at, and it is 4-0.
00:25:22The goal stands, and here come the changes, and here comes Max Dowman.
00:25:3315-year-old Max Dowman, big part of Arsenal's pre-season, his senior debut comes.
00:25:41Daumann.
00:25:55three kick is given
00:25:59Gabriel Goodmanson's unhappy about that
00:26:02and he did seem to fall on Max Dowman
00:26:04Wynary whipped in
00:26:12Dowman
00:26:13well the Emirates were on the edge of their seats
00:26:19thinking they were about to celebrate a bit of
00:26:22Premier League history here when Max Dowman hit that
00:26:25would have made him comfortably the youngest ever Premier League goalscorer
00:26:29beating a record set 20 years ago by James Vaughan
00:26:33in April 2005 when he scored against Crystal Palace
00:26:39at the age of 16 years 270 days
00:26:42Wynary
00:26:44Dowman
00:26:46Mishker is flying forward
00:26:49Dowman here
00:26:50and the referee Jared Gillett
00:26:52is giving that
00:26:54it's a penalty to Arsenal
00:26:56Anton Stav on
00:27:00Max Dowman
00:27:02yeah he's just caught his left toe
00:27:08Stav
00:27:10flat touch there
00:27:135-0
00:27:23and 2
00:27:25Jokeres
00:27:272 goals for Jokeres
00:27:312 goals for Timber
00:27:322 injuries for Arsenal
00:27:35Odegaard and Saka
00:27:37not quite a perfect day
00:27:40exactly how we wanted to start the first game at home in the league
00:27:47start to create that confidence that feeling of domination at home
00:27:52the atmosphere was electric from the beginning
00:27:55last season there were too many games where you couldn't play Odegaard and Saka
00:27:59and both have picked up injuries today
00:28:01yes we already missed Kai this week
00:28:04or last week
00:28:05and then those two
00:28:06with Martin looks like a shoulder injury
00:28:08we don't know the extent of that
00:28:10and Bukayo
00:28:10while he was running and wrestling with the defender
00:28:13he felt something in his hamstring
00:28:14so we'll have to wait and see
00:28:16but quite concerned about that
00:28:18people often talk about the difference between the championship and the Premier League
00:28:21being maybe the quality of the finishing
00:28:23and they scored from every shot on target they had today
00:28:27yes sums it up as well
00:28:29I can't really remember many saves of Lucas Perry today
00:28:35so 5 shots on target, 5 goals
00:28:37of course we're disappointed with the outcome
00:28:39that we don't travel away with points or a tighter result
00:28:42but we knew that these things can happen
00:28:44if you want to play on the top level
00:28:46and this is not a season defining game for us
00:28:48many highlights
00:28:49Victor scoring his first two goals for the club
00:28:52Durian after a long-term injury
00:28:54scoring two goals
00:28:54Mosca having his debut for the club
00:28:57and of course probably one of the highlights of the day
00:28:59the debut of Max as 15
00:29:01and then the impact that he had on the game as well
00:29:04so in general
00:29:05a super positive afternoon
00:29:07except of the two injuries that we picked
00:29:09with Martin and Bukayo
00:29:11well let's start with Jocares first
00:29:14because you more than anyone Alan
00:29:15will know how important it is for him to open his account
00:29:17to get those first two goals
00:29:19but are there also signs that this is a developing relationship?
00:29:22Yeah and understandably so
00:29:24there were some good signs
00:29:25but there's also that it still needs working on
00:29:28and you get that
00:29:30because he's still getting used to his teammates
00:29:32his teammates are still getting used to him
00:29:35you can't not ask Bukayo Saka not to go past players
00:29:39because he's brilliant at it
00:29:41but once you get into that position
00:29:44when you've got a forward
00:29:45who's used to having balls into the box
00:29:46sometimes the ball has to go in rather than back
00:29:49but they've been playing that way for such a long time now
00:29:51it is going to take time
00:29:54there's no doubt this
00:29:55he just gets his position all wrong
00:29:56he should take a touch with the left foot
00:29:58and then he'll have a simple tap in
00:30:00he just snatches at it for some reason
00:30:03but also again Calafiore here
00:30:05I think if he makes a run in between the two defenders
00:30:08then I think that's what Calafiore needs
00:30:10is that option to do that
00:30:11he doesn't
00:30:12okay that will come also
00:30:14then nothing comes of that situation again
00:30:18and Zubimendi here
00:30:19once he gets the ball back
00:30:20look he's looking for an option
00:30:21I think he can ping that ball into him there
00:30:24because he can pin the defender
00:30:25and then spin to his left hand side
00:30:27and have a public goal
00:30:28and you can see the reaction of Zubimendi
00:30:30because he's putting his arms up
00:30:31and wanting options
00:30:32this time from the left hand side
00:30:35Madiweki
00:30:35that ball can go in
00:30:36when you've got a forward who wants balls into the box
00:30:39you've sometimes got to do it
00:30:40he takes a touch
00:30:41another touch
00:30:42and another touch
00:30:43and eventually look what happens
00:30:44no ball into the box
00:30:46you sometimes have to do that
00:30:47centre forwards need to be fed
00:30:49and he's a goal scorer
00:30:51now
00:30:5190 seconds in
00:30:53to the second half
00:30:54I'm sure the manager said something at half time
00:30:56Arteta
00:30:56first time balls
00:30:58when you've got someone who
00:30:59can run like he can
00:31:01and you play a high line
00:31:02you have to play sometimes
00:31:04an early ball
00:31:05and he's off and running
00:31:06he gets his goal
00:31:06all because of that first time ball
00:31:09and that running behind
00:31:10great to see him step up
00:31:11and take the penalty
00:31:12with such confidence
00:31:14but it is going to take time
00:31:16for him to understand
00:31:17and for the players
00:31:18also he's playing with
00:31:19to know when
00:31:20and how
00:31:21to put the ball in
00:31:22for him
00:31:22because they haven't always done that
00:31:24in recent years
00:31:25and you'd imagine
00:31:26that that weighs quite heavily
00:31:27in terms of his numbers for the game
00:31:29that second half performance
00:31:30I know what it's like
00:31:32for a centre forward
00:31:33you're desperate to get off to a good start
00:31:35so for him
00:31:36it's not quite happening for him last week
00:31:38but getting actually two goals today
00:31:40he'll sleep a lot better tonight
00:31:41that's for sure
00:31:41Can I ask you a quick question
00:31:42can you try too hard at times
00:31:45as a forward
00:31:45and then the basic things
00:31:47that normally come to you
00:31:48you're trying to out
00:31:49Yeah because you want to impress
00:31:50when people are talking about you
00:31:52the transfer fee's huge
00:31:53everyone knows what Arsenal have needed
00:31:55for such a long time
00:31:56there's pressure on him
00:31:57so yeah you can do that
00:31:58but there's certainly signs there
00:32:00but they have to get used to each other
00:32:02and it might take time
00:32:03We asked Alan about the striker
00:32:05so we've got to ask you
00:32:06about the 15 year old
00:32:07who burst out of the scene
00:32:08Oh okay
00:32:09I thought you'd never asked
00:32:1015 years of age
00:32:14wow
00:32:14what a Premier League debut
00:32:16and not necessarily because
00:32:18he scored and assisted
00:32:19but just how positive he was
00:32:21for someone who's at 15
00:32:23to be doing this sort of thing
00:32:25and having the confidence
00:32:27just to take on
00:32:28a really good fullback
00:32:29in Goodmanson
00:32:30and his direction
00:32:33the way he goes
00:32:33one way and the other
00:32:35at such pace
00:32:36he runs faster
00:32:37with the ball
00:32:38and without the ball
00:32:40got overexcited
00:32:41you see these moments here
00:32:42and then he gets
00:32:43the penalty
00:32:44but a couple of stats
00:32:45he played for Arsenal
00:32:47under 18s at 13
00:32:49youngest player to score
00:32:50anyway for
00:32:51under 19s competition
00:32:53as well
00:32:54he come through the youth
00:32:55at I think he was
00:32:57seven or eight
00:32:58at the time
00:32:59but to be doing this
00:33:00on the big estate
00:33:01is just incredible
00:33:02and look at this
00:33:03Premier League
00:33:04well I'm just looking
00:33:05for my name there
00:33:06don't I
00:33:06you're not on the list
00:33:07number 20 I think you are
00:33:09Micah
00:33:09I didn't make the list
00:33:10didn't burst onto the scene
00:33:12quite so much
00:33:13did you
00:33:13next time
00:33:14next time
00:33:15but is there a sort of
00:33:17other side for Arsenal
00:33:18in terms of the injuries
00:33:20that they've been suffering
00:33:21because it's another
00:33:23hamstring injury
00:33:24for Saka
00:33:25it looks like
00:33:26Odegaard's a shoulder injury
00:33:27which is a contact injury
00:33:29but it just seems
00:33:30as though
00:33:30they take the gloss
00:33:31off a really good day
00:33:32for them
00:33:33they were really impressive
00:33:34in terms of getting the goals
00:33:35the confidence
00:33:36and the belief it will give them
00:33:37but that will certainly
00:33:38put a damper on the day
00:33:39but at least now they've got the squad
00:33:41to cope with it
00:33:42previous season they haven't
00:33:43but I think they have now
00:33:44it's been a difficult time for Arsenal
00:33:47in terms of those injuries
00:33:48two newly promoted sides
00:33:51next though
00:33:51as Burnley
00:33:52welcomes Sunderland
00:33:53to Turf Moor
00:33:54your commentator
00:33:55Steve Bauer
00:33:55Burnley begin their life
00:34:00at Turf Moor
00:34:01back in the big time
00:34:02in a fixture
00:34:02they will have circled
00:34:03as one
00:34:04to get something from
00:34:05early on
00:34:06Scott Parker
00:34:07gives a full
00:34:07Clarence debut
00:34:08to Leslie Ugochukwu
00:34:10after his summer move
00:34:11from Chelsea
00:34:12there's also a start
00:34:13for Jakob Brun Larsson
00:34:15Sunderland
00:34:16haven't won
00:34:17their opening two games
00:34:18of a top flight season
00:34:19for 45 years
00:34:21Wembley hero
00:34:22Mayenda
00:34:22who scored their first goal
00:34:24back in the Premier League
00:34:25against West Ham
00:34:26leads the line
00:34:27once again
00:34:27Isidore is on the bench
00:34:29he had two penalties
00:34:31saved here
00:34:31in the championship
00:34:32last season
00:34:33excellent covering
00:34:42from Ugochukwu
00:34:45but the foul on Odingra
00:34:46had already been committed
00:34:47floated in by the skipper
00:34:56Xhaka
00:34:56Ballard
00:34:57is the target
00:34:58he won it
00:34:59and Dubravka
00:34:59was required
00:35:00but that was a big chance
00:35:03for Mayenda
00:35:03Sunderland's threat
00:35:06from a set play
00:35:08evident again
00:35:08watch Dan Ballard
00:35:11totally unopposed
00:35:12and Mayenda
00:35:13will be a little frustrated
00:35:15he didn't get a better
00:35:16cleaner contact on that
00:35:17because that's a big chance
00:35:19Ballard has stayed down
00:35:22but it was his free header
00:35:24that caused the issue there
00:35:26great chance to score
00:35:27the opening goal
00:35:28for the second weekend
00:35:29running
00:35:29and then you can see
00:35:30on the left of your picture
00:35:31there
00:35:32Ballard pulled up
00:35:33and that is why
00:35:34there's obvious concern
00:35:35so Jensen
00:35:37see how the Dutchman
00:35:38is on to partner
00:35:40Molderete
00:35:41in another new
00:35:42partnership at the back
00:35:44what a start
00:35:46he and his team
00:35:47had last weekend
00:35:48can they
00:35:49make it
00:35:50two out of two
00:35:51today
00:35:51loose touch
00:35:54from Kyle Walker
00:35:55on goes Talby
00:36:04or Dubravka was committed
00:36:05and got away with it
00:36:06because the Moroccan
00:36:09could have easily given
00:36:10Sunderland the lead there
00:36:11first from the error
00:36:14from Walker
00:36:15watch Talby burst through
00:36:18here unopposed
00:36:19Dubravka made a very early
00:36:21decision he was never
00:36:22getting there
00:36:23and a channel from Colin
00:36:30oh there's no foul
00:36:34and there's the Burnley lead
00:36:36from Lyle Foster
00:36:38well he didn't give it up
00:36:46and it was a substitute
00:36:47Jensen Seale
00:36:48who hesitated
00:36:50for Sunderland
00:36:51it is of course
00:36:54being checked
00:36:55by John Brooks
00:36:56in VAR
00:36:56and he is going
00:36:58to rule this goal
00:36:59out
00:37:00John Brooks
00:37:01says the defender
00:37:02clearly has full
00:37:03possession
00:37:04of the ball
00:37:06and his foul
00:37:06from behind
00:37:07that is open
00:37:09to interpretation
00:37:10shall we say
00:37:10and that has added
00:37:15further spice
00:37:16to the fixture
00:37:18now Dingra
00:37:24has been shown
00:37:25the first yellow card
00:37:26and in fact
00:37:28after an incident
00:37:29with Hannibal
00:37:30this yellow
00:37:31is being checked
00:37:32for a red
00:37:33watch of Dingra
00:37:34here
00:37:34does he raise
00:37:35his hand
00:37:36well he does
00:37:37and catch
00:37:38Hannibal in the face
00:37:39it stays
00:37:41as a yellow card
00:37:43with determination
00:37:44a petulant act
00:37:46Hartman
00:37:48Stroke to Brun Larsson
00:37:55in from Hannibal
00:37:59and the header
00:38:00from Anthony
00:38:02is off target
00:38:04very last touch
00:38:07of the first half
00:38:08a rare sight
00:38:09of goal
00:38:10for Burnley
00:38:10for Jadon Anthony
00:38:12oh and he should
00:38:14be doing better
00:38:14over the next half
00:38:24Burguer Chokka
00:38:24again that's behind
00:38:28his teammates
00:38:28Hartman
00:38:30is there a shooting
00:38:34opportunity
00:38:35here there is
00:38:36Josh Cullen
00:38:38the captain
00:38:39less than two minutes into the second half
00:38:44with Burnley's first goal back in the big time
00:38:50to give them the lead
00:38:52it's his third career Premier League goal
00:38:56lovely little touch into him from Anthony
00:38:59and he guided that into the bottom corner
00:39:02now this is being checked for a possible offside in the build-up
00:39:06and John Brooks has confirmed the on-field decision of goal
00:39:12and Burnley leads Sunderland by a goal to nil
00:39:16well Burnley are trying to turn their floodlights on but having some issues
00:39:23they've lit up the second half so far though on the pitch that's the main thing
00:39:30by taking the lead
00:39:31in all seriousness this will interrupt Burnley's flow
00:39:36because their tails are up
00:39:37they're in front and they've just got a bit of a rhythm at the moment
00:39:40I think the solution of turning them off
00:39:44can result in the resumption of the game
00:39:47Dubravka
00:39:53very nervously clearing that
00:39:55go
00:39:56jackal
00:40:01and again
00:40:01and again
00:40:06goal kick
00:40:1019 year old
00:40:13he began at Barcelona
00:40:15couldn't find the target through the bodies
00:40:18excellent work from walker chowner early from cullen towards anthony now then can he seal it here
00:40:34it's still anthony oh he can
00:40:37jayden anthony takes center stage
00:40:45and burnley it's closer to their first win back in the big time
00:40:52listen to this at turf more
00:40:57this is what they've worked for this is what they've dreamt of winning again in the premier league
00:41:07and it's won the majority of turf more really enjoyed
00:41:13burnley two sunderland nil
00:41:17flaming almost onto that chowner was
00:41:25it almost got better
00:41:28on his home debut
00:41:31the man they paid 12 million pounds for from latzu in the summer trying to curl that in he wasn't
00:41:36too far away from doing so
00:41:38it's good to be back home
00:41:46finally back in the top flight at turf more
00:41:50with a huge win
00:41:52and the clean sheet to boot and it is back down to earth after last weekend for sunderland
00:42:00big three points for burnley burnley two sunderland nil
00:42:04we were very good today i think we were worthy of of what we produced and certainly how we played
00:42:12i liked us if we had real good structure we need to make this place exactly like it was today
00:42:17very difficult is that our home stadium is going to be vitally important for us and the fans are going
00:42:22to play a massive massive part in that and i think altogether in terms of players everyone involved fans
00:42:28as well um we were well worthy of of the result today a bit uh disappointed because we lost i think
00:42:34it's the first uh first point of the afternoon i think we started well our first half was was good
00:42:40we created two big chances um we didn't score and i think in this game it was really important
00:42:47the first goal because it changed just everything they dropped into back five four one deep block
00:42:55and we struggled we know there's not many teams in the world that can have the ball and dominate the
00:42:59game all the time so when you don't have it you have to be solid you have to dig in and wait for
00:43:03our moments and um thankfully second half we we managed to get two goals and and that's what it
00:43:08matters with with the second goal i make them runs a thousand times a game and to be fair to josh
00:43:13he always plays them and always looks so um yeah i knew once the space was there to make that run
00:43:17and then it was about staying composed and yeah done that and luckily it went in
00:43:21well josh cullen we heard from there got the opening goal what did you make of his all-round
00:43:26performance alan well he's been around the block he knows what it's about and he's going to need
00:43:30um that experience all the time to be honest i mean he was one of the better players last weekend
00:43:36and he certainly stood out today and and everything he did whether it was shown a great example great
00:43:41attitude closing down chasing lost causes um he was at the heart of everything that burnley did well
00:43:48today covering in the right position using all of that uh all of that experience and know-how
00:43:53to get in tackles like that but his his goal was fantastic and this was the moment that they needed
00:43:59a great little flick there from anthony and the way he just guides it into that uh into the corner it
00:44:04was such a clever finish and little flicks and tricks and whatever you why not you seem to uh to enjoy
00:44:10it particularly in that uh in that second half sunderland missed a big chance early in the game and they
00:44:15got punished for that but just look where he's scanning here already he knows exactly where
00:44:20anthony is and what ball he wants to play and he hits it perfection and he just whether he can anthony
00:44:26can go around the keeper and finish it off and he certainly did that impressively and it was a really
00:44:30impressive performance from burnley they had to win they knew that i think even though it was early
00:44:35on in the game and when they had to protect and sit deep deep it was him again that was getting those
00:44:39those vital tackles and you can see what it means to uh to him and to burnley and to his manager scott
00:44:44parker so it was a really really impressive performance and they weren't beaten there
00:44:48last season at home and that like the other two teams that were promoted their home form is going
00:44:54to be key to whether they can stay in this league or not because as everyone will know over the last
00:44:58two seasons micah the teams that have been promoted have been relegated straight back to the the
00:45:02championship home form is is always important but can it make the difference this season can it buck that
00:45:09train i i think it can i i think because the teams are adapting they're not all trying to play a certain
00:45:15style of play i think sundown in the first game mixed up a little bit you know lead ellen road is always
00:45:21going to be frantic but burnley today there's a lot of pressure going into that game and it's how they
00:45:26was going to deal with it yes they conceded a few chances but they dug deep and they got the uh result in
00:45:32the end and it's just have to make sure the home form is good enough that is what will keep these
00:45:37teams yeah we sure we saw leeds it's not that that performance today from leeds we won't determine
00:45:42whether they still their home form like burnley's like sunland because of the atmosphere that those
00:45:47stadiums generate that's going to be key to whether they can stay up or not but maybe you have to win
00:45:51for each of them they can be a little bit more hopeful we'll talk west ham and graham potter a bit later
00:45:56there are three premier league games on tomorrow's match of the day
00:46:13a stunning end to the match fernandez oh that is magnificent
00:46:21a reminder that this season you can find highlights of all of the weekend's premier
00:46:25league games on iplayer tomorrow's games will appear at eight o'clock the women's rugby world

00:46:38keep up with everything going on in the world of football with the football daily podcast available
00:46:42now on bbc clowns the football interview follows us tonight on bbc one kelly summers is in conversation
00:46:49with mark gahey currently of crystal palace brentford's gtech community stadium saw 75 goals in
00:46:57the premier league last season the most of any venue visitors aston villa however failed to find the net
00:47:02on the opening weekend commentary comes from mark scott while neither side would have been happy with
00:47:09their start to the season brentford's flop at forest was certainly the more concerning performance
00:47:14and one described as naive by new boss keith andrews he's able to bring in key man michael damsgaard
00:47:20today there's also a debut for club record signing dongo watara and the first start for jordan
00:47:25henderson while kevin shader also comes in johan wisser is once again left out of the squad emmy
00:47:32martinez is back for villa after a ban but esri cox is missing due to suspension
00:47:37following his red against newcastle how torres takes his place
00:47:44cash feeding mcgin and there's a bit of room here for morgan rogers
00:47:51he's done well and he's got plenty of options up there with him
00:47:54one of those is luca dina and he really should have found him
00:47:59the brentford find a bit of room themselves now dam's got on the charge
00:48:02coyote just a bit off a bit more than he could chew dam's guard recycles now it's shader dam's guard
00:48:15brilliant dam's guard
00:48:19that's what they've been missing wasn't available last weekend michael dam's guard
00:48:25the dame dancing his way past a couple of challenges but then unable to get enough bend on the final
00:48:31effort well joan wisser has trained with the team all week keith andrews says given the current
00:48:38situation the only right thing to do was leave him out all together today
00:48:45clever flick that and watara's got the pace to get there it's dongo watara
00:48:49big block by martinez watara's there now debut goal for dongo watara
00:49:01just what brentford needed
00:49:05after the horror start to the game at forest they're off to a flyer this afternoon
00:49:10tiago with the clever flick and then watara absolutely sped away
00:49:18desperate lunge from torres couldn't catch him martinez blocked the initial effort
00:49:24but the new boy was quickest to react to the rebound
00:49:28and brentford off to a quick start brentford one aston villanil
00:49:33they had a supermodel under thomas frank but a new season has brought a new style looking good so far
00:49:44trying to slide it through to guendia anticipated well by shader
00:49:49eagle tiago turning into trouble
00:49:52villa now come forwards with cash
00:49:54as far as tielemans
00:50:15shava in the right place for brentford
00:50:17that was traveling from yuri tielemans he picked his spot all right and
00:50:25shader intervenes
00:50:29short to tielemans
00:50:33and mcgin unconventional from kellehop and it did the job
00:50:39one new signing has opened the scoring for brentford
00:50:43and one of their summer arrivals has kept them in front here
00:50:46as kelleher reacted with his feet
00:50:53martinemans has lost it
00:50:55watara can't make the most of it
00:50:58here it comes from coyote martinez has gone for it and hasn't got there and damsgard
00:51:15has rifled in to double brentford's lead
00:51:18damsgard's delight is short-lived because tony harrington has disallowed the goal
00:51:29they will check whether the referee's call of foul was correct and they have done
00:51:35emi martinez was impeded by collins and that means that this brilliant hit from damsgard is not going
00:51:47to count
00:51:52cash
00:51:54it's on the kid
00:51:56managed to smuggle it through here for emmy buendia rogers screaming for it buendia has found him
00:52:01morgan rogers that is a terrific piece of defending from michael coyote
00:52:09guendia feeding rogers who teed himself up for the hit but as he pulled the trigger he found coyote
00:52:17flinging himself in the way
00:52:21thomas tuchel was at west ham on friday and has come to west london
00:52:25for a look at some of his potential squad this afternoon
00:52:32tielemans rogers
00:52:35rolled on for buendia who's gonna have a go
00:52:38well it was positive and direct from emmy buendia but the radar just not quite working
00:52:48for emmy buendia at the end of it
00:52:52phila look more dangerous in the early stages of the second half and they did across the entirety
00:52:57of the first period
00:53:02that's a careless clearance
00:53:07collins heads in the direction of coyote who loops it up to damsgard
00:53:11the tower should get there and now it's kevin shader through here for eager tiago
00:53:21lovely suffers from brentford flying down the right flank before switching it across to the
00:53:26left we've got tiago's on side but emmy martinez anticipated well
00:53:32keith andrews is up and running as brentford boss his first home game in charge ends in victory
00:53:46over a blunt aston villa who draw another blank brentford one aston villa nil i think identity of a
00:53:55team is really really important i think you could see that today without the ball and it was scrappy
00:54:01it was ugly um at times and i loved it i absolutely loved it the way we made the game into a game that
00:54:08they didn't want and i just thought the desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net and
00:54:13and to do that for the team today selfless work from so many players was so impressive so from start
00:54:18to finish the lads give everything to be fair um of course it's going to be difficult against villa
00:54:23they've got top players we're a very good team um so there was always going to be difficult moments
00:54:29but i felt like we stuck together right until the very end and um yeah defended very well nice to be
00:54:35to be back um i've said premier league best league in the world so to be back in it felt good conceding
00:54:40one goal always is difficult to come back of course after it we reacted well and we were dominating we
00:54:47were cutting chances we had corners we had a lot of crosses and we had more or less chances to score
00:54:54one goal as we didn't score well brentford lost some really important players over the summer so
00:55:00how instrumental now is michael damsgard he's so instrumental in terms of what he can offer this
00:55:05team he's absolutely excellent kelly i think in terms of his positioning and where he's receiving the
00:55:13ball yeah he can play in number 10 he can play wide but it was his patience i was most impressed with
00:55:19today and his timing and then knowing when to back up his teammates and then once he gets in there
00:55:25can he produce something special quick feet and then shot wide but it's also the position i was
00:55:32talking about in defensive role you know knowing exactly where to be anticipating the ball where the
00:55:37ball's gonna be and then doing the work for his team and look where he starts here you know all his
00:55:42good play today for me was in you know forward positions but when you've got players who are willing
00:55:48to do that for the team it helps you so much he gets his goal it was disallowed for a foul colin's
00:55:55there but then look at the technique he had i watched him a lot when he was in sandora and he come
00:56:00as sort of a a big player and it didn't happen for him at the start but last season i thought he was
00:56:05excellent his awareness his vision gets in the pocket of space lovely little pass and then in the end
00:56:12he could have got assist it was just offside but i kept it in just because of his vision and his
00:56:17work rate and today he was the best player on on the pitch and you just just look at the stats there
00:56:24his first part from from jewels won but it was a really magnificent performance from him yeah doing
00:56:30everything in that game michael damsguard as for aston villa they haven't scored in their opening two
00:56:35games alan what can they do given the the psr restrictions that that they have well they haven't
00:56:41but i mean i guess they can try and get players in on in on loan i've said to you before the psr situation
00:56:47well with me in in terms of what they can and can't spend i mean emory has had six transfer windows
00:56:53and they've made a profit of 10 million pound aston villa so in terms of obviously their salaries are
00:56:59are hampering also because i don't think psr was brought in for this situation for aston villa
00:57:05when they've clearly got an owner who's got the money same with newcastle as well so it's a really
00:57:10difficult situation for them to be and they look blunt today so they need a little bit of help in
00:57:14those positions 17 shots today but only two on target a little bit of freshness don't they yeah
00:57:19i just feel with villa of all the hard work they've put in over the years i was in a team that got
00:57:23relegated so to see the transformation to now get into the champions league but they can't buy any
00:57:28players which is ridiculous having to sell academy products as well it's just it's not sitting right
00:57:35no and they've dipped into the the loan market with some success but that may well be another route
00:57:39out for them potentially nicholas jackson who's been linked with a move to to aston villa
00:57:45bournemouth were hoping to get their season up and running in their first home game visitors wolves
00:57:51have never lost there in the premier league jonathan pierce was at the vitality stadium
00:57:55form of run change Antoine Semenya says prison sentences could be used for those convicted of
00:58:03racial abuse after he was appallingly abused at anfield last weekend today he looks to become the
00:58:09first african player to score two or more goals in three games running since papis cise in 2012
00:58:15petrovic giacchietti and trooper make their home debuts 15 million pound july signing john arias gets
00:58:22his first walk start after a cameo from the bench last weekend against manchester city with andre
00:58:28dropping to the subs that's their only change since the start of may they picked up fewer points than
00:58:34any of last season's top flight sides to queue outside this week is among the subs
00:58:42rules early on against manchester city weren't bad then they fell apart almost weren't bad at all
00:58:49up at liverpool they may be a little bit unfortunate to be beaten the way they were
00:58:55there at the back
00:59:05comes through the brooks
00:59:08over from david brooks who hasn't scored since january
00:59:12almost have won just three of the last 14 premier league matches
00:59:16they've lost three of the last four and here's a chance for walls right from the start here through
00:59:21the middle and it's munetzi over the bar who traveled a long way direct from wolverhampton wanderers
00:59:34well done lost possession
00:59:41and it's a bell garden a very difficult position simenya cuts it to his left hand side
00:59:47tavern here back across the six yard area and he went in off agpadu i think
00:59:55bournemouth lead
01:00:00well done played into trouble it's a gift for bournemouth this really
01:00:04simenya held it up then released to tavernier
01:00:07and agpadu got his feet all wrong
01:00:10only free kick given the other goal went to ground too easy under pressure from adam smith is on that
01:00:22far side made a lot of room to get over there adam smith the cross comes into simenya off the other side of the bar
01:00:30so nearly two nil again good football by bournemouth
01:00:34so many should have scored really the woodwork saves walls
01:00:43strangelarsen coming infield couldn't get there but brooks has given it back to
01:00:48walls a rias finds herva this is promising for warhampton on a stand last and good save
01:00:55because he got down very quickly there georgie petrovic but not only that there was strength in his
01:01:00hands as he pushed the ball away from the danger area good move by walls though they're best of the game
01:01:09and he's chatua
01:01:11it's from last and the norias ahead of him
01:01:14and a real slept for it here's ugo bueno his first touch in the game
01:01:18and michael gomez truffet got it away for bournemouth he's been steady and he's home debut
01:01:24jomez one ball to hugo bueno oh it's just white arias arrived in a good position from the deep run
01:01:36and that's warm's best chance i think since the early shun larson header needed to hit the target there
01:01:43and here's brooks
01:01:51making best use of that pass a lovely ball by brooks on the other hand
01:01:54evan hilton is he pushed down by totti if he was he's in trouble denial of a goal scoring opportunity
01:02:00the referee looked to the flag he pulls out a red card and the walls captain is off
01:02:05it's a lovely pass here by david bricks one of the best passes of the game evan hilton
01:02:13threw in on goal and there's the push sends him to the ground
01:02:19clear denial of a goal scoring opportunity and the red card produced and wolves are down to 10 men
01:02:23here's smith there's brooks white evan hilton in the middle oh he's taken away from his teammate
01:02:35samuel over
01:02:38but the touch by evan hilton took it away from tavern here who've made a great run in behind him
01:02:43it's a lovely ball in mind you samuel could have had two or three today
01:02:53here's christy an astute player we know that about him it's a good ball to some menu
01:03:02lovely ball to a class from christy so when you hit it first time
01:03:08it's a little bit too close for comfort this for andoni ero
01:03:13it's gene q10
01:03:19i'd love that
01:03:23cross deflected on through evan nielsen releases it's a brilliant effort from adams and a super super
01:03:30save from sar
01:03:34one of the best moments in the game we've had promising run from adley a little bit of fortune
01:03:39about the cross but evan hilton held it up well then the release it's going in and josé
01:03:43sarr pulled off the save of the game so far
01:03:54two fans to semenja keep that continuing the run
01:04:02i haven't made himself available it's one back by anjo
01:04:04it's a good win for us you always want to win the first game at home especially after losing the
01:04:17first one the other day against liverpool and i think we were dealing very well with the game
01:04:35first half even second half no and then when they reserve the red card you are in a position where
01:04:41you have to score the second one if you don't score they were not really creating chances but
01:04:44you are uncomfortable you are uncomfortable i think we defended well but
01:04:48i think we missed you know situations that we should have scored the second one
01:04:53my respect to the decision was a pity because i think we start the second half creating
01:05:01with we did some changes and we create some problems and was a pity because in the end with 10
01:05:08results bring confidence to you the confidence when you have a chance to score the only ways to work
01:05:17and work and work and uh and try to improve the players to give confidence to them to correct the
01:05:25mistakes and keep going well the red card effectively ended the game as a contest for wolves while well
01:05:31deserved but as for bournemouth we saw an excellent performance for them last week against liverpool how
01:05:36did they get on today well i think the polite thing to say about today's game is it wasn't very
01:05:40good um having said that bournemouth did deserve to win the game and certainly on the number of chances
01:05:45created that they should have won by more and so menu had one of those days he got his couple of goals
01:05:50last week but it just wasn't to be his uh his day today albeit he'll get the assist for uh for tavernier
01:05:57there takes a huge deflection though but so menu will get the uh will get the assist and that was
01:06:03enough to give them the the three points and there wasn't a lot came back from wolves after that as
01:06:08you said it was the there was also a red card which ended their chance of getting anything but
01:06:13they did create and this is i mean that that should be in the back of the net he should score there's
01:06:19no doubt about it a bit of a difficult technique a similar technique here actually where it's on the
01:06:23half volley again this time he uh he skies it uh over a good ball in behind again and it's that man again
01:06:31and just can't get the connection he wants to bring it back but that doesn't matter how they play they
01:06:34get the three points and they move on he's dangerous so many though isn't he good player yeah i think
01:06:38even though you look at the chances that he's missed there he's in the right positions knows where
01:06:42to be he's just a execution that wasn't on i think but as you said it after their performance at
01:06:47liverpool they were tad unlucky i guess but then going into today's game they'll see it's a big opportunity
01:06:52to pick up the points so they have so they'll do that and move on
01:06:54it's a friday night's game it was a london derby between west ham and chelsea conor mcnamara was
01:07:00there just one change for graham potter from the defeated sunderland to the subject returns to the
01:07:09midfield in place of yido rodriguez who drops to the bench enzo maresco makes four changes to the
01:07:15chelsea team that started their home draw against palace tolson returns to the heart of the defense
01:07:20with malo gusto at right back reese james drops to the bench cole palmer was due to start but
01:07:25withdrew in the warm-up estevão gets his first start for the club and liam de lapp comes in in place
01:07:31of jamie kitchens this is the first time that de lapp and joao pedro have started together for chelsea
01:07:37there's your petro chelsea it tips the flick that doesn't come off this is lucas piquetta
01:07:50this is it from rage what a goal lucas piquetta he wrote it many better than that all season
01:08:00on the opening home game of the campaign lucas piquetta takes the west ham fans breath away with that one
01:08:16simply stunning shot
01:08:20first goal of the campaign for west ham united
01:08:24and
01:08:33oh what a ball in esteval was ready to finish but an intervention from el hadji malik juuf was
01:08:41critical for west ham he'd even swung his boot esteva
01:08:45in swinger flicked on but kukurea flicked into the back of the net
01:08:53joao pedro his first premier league goal for chelsea
01:08:59and west ham were barely in front for 10 minutes
01:09:04kukurea there just rolling into the six-yard box in front of piquetta keep your eye on him the
01:09:09chelsea number three gets the little flick on
01:09:12joao pedro able to shrug off the attentions of aaron mbissaka
01:09:21piquetta keeps it in
01:09:24nicely rolled here for tajibo
01:09:27and a chance for killman that's how you finish it
01:09:33chelsea are complaining
01:09:43appeals that tajibo would have been offside as it was rolled beyond kukurea
01:09:50it's a great run for the french central defender however he was fractionally offside
01:09:56and this goal he's not going to stand
01:10:02agonizingly close for west ham
01:10:07esteval helps it on to joao pedro
01:10:13too high for his teammates at the center
01:10:15and he's giving it away carelessly on the edge of his own penalty area throughout
01:10:22pedro pedro netto
01:10:25lucas pacata gives away possession on the edge of the box
01:10:30and west ham's goal scorer earlier is punished immediately
01:10:36little danger here west ham confident enough to try and play it out for the back
01:10:40nine goals for chelsea last season for pedro netto
01:10:47scored against west ham the last time they made it step for bridge in february
01:10:52video assistant referee jared gillen has looked at the replays
01:10:57they deemed that to be normal football contact there it is going to stand as a goal for chelsea
01:11:10racearo
01:11:24can he pull it back you barely can
01:11:26anti-fenandes the chelsea captain makes it three one the precision and base of esteval was key there
01:11:33Fleet-footed, leaves so many West Ham defenders in his wake
01:11:39and has the wherewithal to pick out the perfect pass
01:11:45There may be 10 minutes remaining in the first half
01:11:47but some West Ham United fans have already seen enough
01:11:54An evening that started so well for Graham Potter
01:11:57but how does he dig his way out of this particular hole?
01:12:03Enzo Fernandes with options, piece of Pedro Neto outside
01:12:06Delaps in the middle, Enzo Fernandes should have got Chelsea's fourth
01:12:12He started that, and the Argentinian disappointed he wasn't able to finish it
01:12:21Neto, Cucuré ahead of him, he's onside
01:12:27That's an important block
01:12:30because Chelsea had four black shirts as well as Cucuré and so the penalty area there
01:12:39Packed penalty area waiting this one
01:12:41Garethson came, couldn't gather, and it's into the net from Casado
01:12:47On his 100th appearance for Chelsea
01:12:51Moise Casado
01:12:55He only got one Premier League goal last season
01:12:57His league tally up and underway for this campaign already
01:13:04It's only the fifth Premier League goal of his career
01:13:08And West Ham who already knew they were in deep trouble
01:13:12Are now seeing it fulfilled
01:13:13As hordes begin to head towards the exits now
01:13:17John Pedro, Dilap, here is Esteval
01:13:26Pushed away and out for a corner kick
01:13:29By the way they'll actually balance you
01:13:37Neto's delivery, in on top of the goalkeeper again
01:13:40Touchdown by John Pedro
01:13:43West Ham are disintegrating in front of Arise here
01:13:47Trevo Culliver
01:13:49Gets his first goal since returning to the club from Crystal Palace
01:13:54From 1-0 up tonight, West Ham
01:13:58West Ham are now 5-1 down
01:14:04Dilap standing in front of the goalkeeper
01:14:06Hervantzic could get nowhere near it
01:14:08West Ham defenders simply not reacting quickly enough
01:14:16It finishes West Ham United 1
01:14:19Chelsea 5
01:14:23Very happy for today, also very happy last week
01:14:25I think the performance was good, we didn't score
01:14:29And tonight we scored 5
01:14:31But overall I think the most important thing was the performance
01:14:35And we deserve to win the game
01:14:37Had a few early setbacks, obviously the West Ham goal
01:14:39But also to lose Cole Palmer in the warm-up
01:14:42I have to ask you, is this serious?
01:14:44Is this going to keep him out for upcoming games?
01:14:45No, in the last four or five days he was not 100%
01:14:49He tried during the warm-up, he felt something
01:14:51And the reason why he's in place is because we don't want to take any risk to get worse
01:14:55A good start, scored a great goal
01:14:59And then conceded a cheap goal and that would probably set the tone for the evening
01:15:04In the end, we're playing against the top side, we have to acknowledge that
01:15:08But the manner of the goals we conceded, it makes it impossible for us
01:15:12So, we have to do better, it's as simple as that
01:15:15Well, Chelsea made it look easy, even without Cole Palmer
01:15:19How easy did West Ham make it for them, Micah?
01:15:22Too easy, I think it was awful defending to be honest
01:15:26But I think sometimes the system is hampering them
01:15:30Because Wan-Bissaka, we know he's a right-back but he can get forward
01:15:34But it doesn't stop the cross
01:15:36But there's a mix-up between Tadebo and Wissaka
01:15:39Wan-Bissaka goes too early
01:15:41Neto gets in between them
01:15:42Tadebo gets attracted to the ball
01:15:45And now the back post is free
01:15:47That is just communication
01:15:49Aguirre goes out, too late
01:15:51And then Killman doesn't win the second one
01:15:54And then Tadebo over there
01:15:56Now once they get into this position here
01:15:58They're actually in an alright position
01:16:00But they've not checked their shoulders
01:16:02Enzo runs in behind them
01:16:04Tadebo goes towards the ball
01:16:06And now Wan-Bissaka's in a race
01:16:08It's too late
01:16:09And sometimes when you're playing wing-back
01:16:10It's hard to get into them positions early
01:16:13But they've got everyone back from the corner
01:16:16You just want your leaders out there to go and head the ball
01:16:20Like Potter said, it's a cheap goal
01:16:22It's impossible to win games when you defend like that
01:16:25And it's just too easy
01:16:26At least if you're not going to play teams off the park
01:16:29Be strong, be resolute, be aggressive
01:16:32And those things, unfortunately, you can't say for West Ham right now
01:16:36There's a fragility about them, isn't there?
01:16:38It happened last weekend
01:16:40Once they concede the first goal
01:16:41You think, okay, stick together
01:16:44We'll be alright and we'll work at things
01:16:47But there seems to be a real fragility about their team
01:16:50They conceded a three, they conceded a five
01:16:52And it's not looking good
01:16:54And it's not just these opening two games of this new Premier League season
01:16:57Graham Potter's been in charge now for 20 games
01:16:59And the only manager who has a worse points per game ratio
01:17:03Is Avram Grant
01:17:05He's going to take a lot of criticism from the West Ham fans
01:17:08And it comes back slightly to the point that Micah is making
01:17:11Which is, is it the system or is it the players?
01:17:14I think, I mean, they had a brilliant manager there
01:17:17And David Moyes chose not to keep him
01:17:20So they decided to go down different routes
01:17:22And I don't know, I'm not party to what goes on inside the football club
01:17:25But looking from the outside, it looks a difficult club to manage or coach
01:17:29I think, I think Potter's a very good manager
01:17:33I think he's a good coach
01:17:35I think he did ever so well at Brighton
01:17:38But he came into a club where they had a system
01:17:41I think West Ham have had success being defensive
01:17:44But the fans want to be a bit more offensive
01:17:47But right now he's not got the balance right
01:17:50And I think that's what's hurting the team at this moment in time
01:17:52We'll keep an eye on that situation that's unravelling at West Ham
01:17:58For now though, let's take a look at the table
01:18:00And it's nice viewing if you live in North London
01:18:02Arsenal are the early pace setters
01:18:04Closely followed by their rivals Tottenham
01:18:06Chelsea are third ahead of champions Liverpool
01:18:08Who play on Monday night
01:18:10West Ham have made their worst start to a Premier League season
01:18:13They're one of four teams yet to get off the mark
01:18:16Wolves have conceded five without reply
01:18:17And Manchester United and Everton have a chance to pick up their first points on Sunday
01:18:23Stay tuned on BBC One for the football interview with Mark Gahey
01:18:28Thanks very much to Alan and to Micah
01:18:31On what's been a big day for a young debutant
01:18:33Thank you for a young debutant
