00:00We actually, now that I say it, it feels like this would be like an amazing prize package for someone to win.
00:05You what? You lie down and get wrapped up like a burrito every morning?
00:10I can neither confirm nor deny, but you know, on particularly breezy scenes, maybe you keep your eyes out.
00:15Guys, congratulations on the show.
00:19My grandma was Scottish. Every time I watch something Scottish and historical, I like to think it's it.
00:24We look into my family history, just a lot more romantic, I guess.
00:28Nice.
00:29How do you guys prepare for joining the Outlander family then?
00:35Do you go to a Kayleigh? Do you just binge all seven seasons?
00:40We actually did do that, yeah.
00:41It's all the above, isn't it? We had like a boot camp when we started for like, was it two weeks or three or something?
00:48It was two weeks and then we had like Christmas and then I think we came back and had a bit more.
00:51Yeah.
00:52It was long, it was brilliant.
00:53But we did like all things Outlander, right? It's like, we actually, now that I say it,
00:57it feels like this would be like an amazing prize package for someone to win. Like this could be you.
01:01All things Outlander.
01:03But we learned how to ride horses, shoot guns, play swords, play with swords.
01:09Play with swords.
01:10Learn a Scottish accent.
01:11Well, no one was killed. So I suppose it is like playing with swords.
01:13Exactly.
01:14Yeah.
01:15You got to fire a gun, throw some axes.
01:16Yeah, that was so cool.
01:17Axe throwing, yeah. Yeah, it was all that sort of stuff, right? So like that was all like the practical stuff.
01:23And then me being from Glasgow, I felt responsibility for, you know, welcoming everybody coming up.
01:30So I feel like we got a mare straight into Glasgow.
01:33We did. And we bonded really quickly because of that. Like the very first night you arranged for us all to go out for dinner.
01:38And we went out pretty much every night after that, I think.
01:42Whiskey. Whiskey's a great bonding thing.
01:44There's a lot of whiskey, a lot of karaoke.
01:46That was a large part of our preparation.
01:48Yeah, right.
01:50Did you all feel like, because it is historical and whatnot, so there's obviously very few similarities between living back then and living now.
01:58But did you feel like more comfortable, like you were welcoming everyone into your world or did you all feel a bit like this is a bit bonkers?
02:05I honestly think it was about both. I mean, because like, you know, when the camera's not rolling, you know, I don't think any of us apart from Jeremy's, you know, methods.
02:13So I feel like we can goof around and stuff like that and we're like, oh, look at us, like we're wearing these costumes and things and, you know, we're in Scotland.
02:22And then when, you know, we're just about to call action or whatever, like we're very much like everyone's posture changes.
02:28We're all back to like where we are, hands by your side and all those things.
02:31So it is actually the way you say it's quite cool because you don't really realize you do it, you know, instinctively.
02:36People snap back from being modern, like on our phones and stuff like that to like, oh shit, okay, let's go straight into it again.
02:44I did a show where I had to wear a kilt once and it was an absolute pain in the backside.
02:48It just took so long. There were so many bits and ends and whatnot.
02:52They were strapping on. What was that like doing every day?
02:56Like what was the thing you enjoyed? What was the thing you least enjoyed?
03:00Yeah, I don't wear a kilt in the show, but I didn't realize that the guys were getting, you know,
03:05rolled up every morning until the end of season one.
03:08I think when we were doing EPK and answering questions like this.
03:10And I was like, you what? You lie down and get wrapped up like a burrito every morning.
03:16I had no idea.
03:17Yeah. It's quite ritualistic though, I think, because, well, one, it's humbling because, you know, like you said,
03:24you're lying in your trailer and, you know, just in your boxers in a shirt getting wrapped up like that.
03:29But doing that every single morning is, there is something quite nice about it because for me anyway,
03:34that like sets the, like, okay, like I'm here to work now.
03:37And especially when I put on my boots, there's some, because, you know,
03:41you're wearing these things up to here and it really does change the way that you stand.
03:44So as soon as I have those boots on, I feel like I'm in Brian's shoes now.
03:48And it's an easier kind of transition into.
03:51I think fans are going to want clarification.
03:53There is one thing that comes with wearing a kilt, historically, traditionally, so to speak,
03:58that there wouldn't be as much protection underneath, within, up there.
04:03Can we get any clarification for...
04:05Talking about a true Scotsman.
04:07Indeed.
04:08Indeed.
04:09Did you go true Scotsman or did you, like...
04:11Well, you know, it gets cold out there.
04:13I can neither confirm nor deny, but, you know, on particularly breezy scenes,
04:17maybe you keep your eyes out.
04:18Leave that to fans' imaginations.
04:20Speaking about going method, Harry, your accent was cracking in this.
04:24Thank you very much.
04:25I mean, I'm an English guy.
04:27My grandma was Scottish and she'd, like, lost her accent,
04:29so I'm not the one who could really give you that crown.
04:32Just stop talking.
04:33Let's go back ten seconds.
04:34I thought it was great.
04:36How did you find keeping that up on a set full of Scotsman and iconic Scottish actors?
04:42Tony Curran's in this.
04:43Absolutely.
04:44Peter Mullins in this.
04:45Yeah.
04:46Like, did you have to go a bit method and keep it up all day?
04:49Or were you able to just switch in and out?
04:51No, you know what?
04:52That was the plan and I tried and I just felt a bit...
04:55I don't know.
04:56I feel like there's a disconnect when you're not speaking in your own voice.
05:00I didn't feel like myself in moments where I was myself.
05:04Do you know what I mean?
05:05When I was speaking...
05:06When I was being myself but speaking in a Scottish accent, it felt strange.
05:09And so, no, I didn't.
05:12I didn't keep it up even though that was the plan.
05:14Because I think it would potentially be easier to do that in some ways.
05:18But we have a dialect coach with us on set every day.
05:21So he's constantly there listening to everything and he'll swoop in if he hears anything.
05:26And, yeah, it's just I do a lot of work on it outside of filming hours.
05:31That was probably the most daunting part of the job for me, actually.
05:34Was having to do an accent that I had never done before.
05:37And it's a hard accent to do.
05:39It's very different.
05:40It's one of those I think everyone feels like they can do it.
05:43Like, if you put on the accent, they're like, oh, that sounds Scottish.
05:45Yeah.
05:46But as an actual Scottish person, it would probably sound barbaric.
05:50Barbaric is probably the word I would use, yeah.
05:53It's about making it sound like your own voice as well.
05:55And I think the show wanted that.
05:58They wanted everyone to sound slightly different.
06:00They didn't want us to all be doing, you know, the Sam Heughan voice, for example.
06:04They didn't want us to copy anything.
06:06They wanted us to find the voice for ourselves and for it to feel grounded rather than, like you said, putting on an idea.
06:13An idea.
06:14Yeah.
06:15How different, how similar is this show?
06:17Because I never saw the original Outlander, but I binged a lot of this yesterday.
06:22And I kind of, I get the idea.
06:24There was so much going on that I was like, oh my God, I'm going to have to go back and watch some of this whole show to understand.
06:29Like all these time jumps and everything.
06:32But how, I'm guessing you've at least cast an eye over the original series.
06:37Does this have any sort of different sort of vibe to it?
06:40Is it very much a continuation of that?
06:42No, it definitely pays homage to Outlander in certain ways.
06:46Like, you know, some of the tone and things like that.
06:48And it's got, you know, specific Easter eggs for fans of the original show, which will be like, oh, that's this character.
06:53You know, the younger version or, you know, maybe specific items that you might see during the show.
06:58Or events that you might see during our show have been referred to in Outlander before.
07:03But our show very much has its own energy.
07:06And I think that's down mostly to the fact that we have this large ensemble cast, like not just the main four of us.
07:12But, you know, I hope like 12 plus other amazing actors where the story can go through as well.
07:19Whereas Outlander really, the story had to go through Jamie and Claire's story.
07:24You know, I had to really go through them.
07:26Whereas we have the ability now just to explore so much more.
07:30Yeah, there are so many other amazing relationships and dynamics within that.
07:35And there's so much more to the show than just the romance.
07:39That is the core of it still, I think, is the love story.
07:42But there's also clan politics and, you know, power dynamics and family rivalries and all sorts of cool stuff.
07:51Even though I didn't see the original show, I do like an Easter egg.
07:54So I was like frantically reading up on every single character.
07:56But like, who's related to who?
07:58Oh, it's a complicated family tree.
08:00Yeah.
08:01It's actually up on the wall in the studio.
08:03It is.
08:04Just to remind ourselves.
08:05Just in case.
08:06One thing I did see about the original show is they do end up in lots of interesting places in history.
08:09I thought it was just, you know, set in Scotland and sometimes jumps between time.
08:12But they're like all over the place.
08:14So it made me wonder, with the progression of your characters, is there any kind of historical event or place that you would kind of like to see you guys stuck into as your characters in the story?
08:28Yeah, there's definitely.
08:29I mean, when we come into season one, you know, it's like 1714.
08:32So it's like just pre-Jack about Risings.
08:34And that's such an interesting part of Scottish history.
08:37And now we're going into season two.
08:40We get to, you know, continue on that timeline.
08:43And well, if you know your Scottish history, there's a lot of exciting things coming up.
08:47The birth of my grandmother.
08:49Primarily.
08:50Early 20th century.
08:51That's going to be a big one, guys.
08:53Lovely to meet you guys.
08:54You too.
08:56We're looking forward to where it goes next.
08:57And yeah, I'll see you at the next one, maybe.
08:59Yeah.
09:00WELL THANK YOU'RE THANK YOU'RE THANK YOU.
09:01Thank you so much Mary.
09:02Sure.
09:02Bye mind ya.
09:03Yay!
09:03Bye plug good they gave us a message.
09:04Bye bye
09:21Bye bye.
09:21Bye bye bye.
09:26Bye bye bye.
