00:00Bueno, hola, chicos. Es Gonzalo de Hipertextual en España.
00:02First of all, congratulations.
00:03Again, it's amazing.
00:05It's amazing.
00:06Thank you, Gonzalo.
00:08Thank you.
00:09My first question is for you, Genevieve,
00:11because this show has given Mon Modma
00:14the importance that she actually deserves
00:17because she has always been a secondary character in Star Wars,
00:20but she's actually one of the most important in the whole galaxy.
00:24So how has it been for you,
00:25this whole experience of having a chance to explore her more?
00:29Thank you.
00:30Thanks.
00:32I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to play her,
00:37this extraordinary character, this version of her.
00:42I think it's testament to Tony Gilroy's writing
00:45that he wrote this story for this woman.
00:48I think you're right.
00:49She has been important within the world before,
00:52but she's not been there very much.
00:56So for him and his writers and the team
00:59to allow story time for her to learn about her
01:04and what it costs and what it takes to be this woman
01:06was a privilege that I can only be grateful for.
01:12I'm thrilled for me because I got the opportunity to play this
01:16and I'm also thrilled for the character.
01:18I'm thrilled that she got a platform
01:20and thrilled that we get to see her.
01:22Yeah, that's something that lots of fans were expecting,
01:25so that has been amazing.
01:27I think we can all agree that Andor is something different.
01:31Also from season one, we all had this perspective
01:34that it's something different in the Star Wars universe.
01:36How do you think that Andor has changed Star Wars as a franchise?
01:41Yeah, I understand that there's this feeling around it's different
01:46and lots of people have said that it's impacted them in a different way.
01:51I think the main thing is that it's about human relationships
01:55and human beings and stories that we can all relate to
02:02that happen to be set in a galaxy far, far away.
02:05And I think that resonates with human beings that are watching the show
02:08and we hold the mirror up as the storytellers
02:11and we go, does this look like you?
02:15So for me, I think it's had a personal kind of effect on people.
02:20I think the umbrella of Star Wars or the idea of science fiction,
02:27when it's at its best, which is what Tony, I think, is writing,
02:31is that it is universal or intergalactic in its themes,
02:37but at the heart of it, it's very intimate.
02:41It's about people and relationship, like Faye said.
02:46Yeah, I totally agree.
02:47Lots of people say that Andor has made Star Wars for adults, in a way,
02:52because it has always been a familiar franchise.
02:55Do you think that it can actually happen,
02:57that a Star Wars product can actually, I don't know,
03:01talk about some important themes or topics like this one,
03:05or this is like one in a time?
03:07I think Star Wars, when it's at its best,
03:10and that has been historically, crosses generations.
03:13I think it can reach grandparents, parents, and children.
03:18And I would have to say, yes, Andor is,
03:22and I think there's a lot of people who really appreciate its depth of story
03:26and its intricacy.
03:27So I understand adults feel like it's rich enough for them,
03:33but I would also say that my kids love it.
03:36Like, I do think Andor also can access many generations.
03:42I think it's that good.
03:44I like their perspective.
03:46To echo that, yeah, it's, I think the human relationships can draw people in.
03:51I think that the richness, I think that's a really good word,
03:54it's rich and it's full for everybody.
03:56Yeah.
03:57Yeah, by the way, I totally agree with you guys.
03:58So now I want to ask you because we have seen some very sad moments
04:05in the recent years in Star Wars where some people criticize it
04:09for being like woke or too diverse or something like that.
04:13So which one would you say is the key for Andor to success
04:16when it's actually the most reivindicative show?
04:19I think what is really important to note,
04:23and that I feel quite passionate about,
04:24is that this is just normalizing the normal,
04:27that this has been going on, you know,
04:30queer people and gay people have been going on
04:31since the beginning of time, and it will go on till the end of time.
04:34And I always remember talking to Tony in season one
04:37and him just saying that he wanted it to be
04:39just like any other relationship, that there's no big reveal.
04:42They're just two people who happen to be both female.
04:45We're normalizing the normal.
04:47And the more exposure we can give to that
04:49and the more, I don't know, just human kindness we can put into that,
04:55the better it is for all of us.
04:56And I think Star Wars and Andor is a great platform for that
05:01because we have different planets, different cultures,
05:05we have creatures, we have, you know,
05:07we have every type of human and non-human
05:11that we could possibly have.
05:13And situation.
05:14So what a textured place to play.
05:18Yeah, it's hilarious.
05:19I never understood why people are not mad about Wookiees,
05:22but are mad about gay people in Star Wars.
05:25Now I want to ask you about Valencia
05:27because you actually showed the second season here.
05:30Yes!
05:31How has it been?
05:32Because it actually plays a big, big,
05:34it's like another character in this show.
05:37So how has it been?
05:38You were there much longer than me.
05:40I did two days there and was very upset about that.
05:43But it was beautiful.
05:44The views, the people, the food.
05:46But I'm going to...
05:46That's right, because we went to...
05:48We went to that beautiful restaurant.
05:50No, no, where did we go in the mountains?
05:51Oh, the mountains.
05:52Outside Barcelona.
05:54Where was that?
05:56Wait there, it'll come.
05:57Oh, we'll come to that.
05:58But then we went to Valencia.
06:00I can't imagine us ever having, being able to...
06:03It was like Valencia was made for us.
06:06That Museum of Arts and Sciences,
06:08it does, it looks spectacular.
06:11I remember one evening doing a night shoot
06:14and being there with Stellan
06:15and us having this beautiful scene,
06:17which I think is in episode eight or nine.
06:19And I remember the sounds of the city
06:22and within the architecture of that piece.
06:25I remember, I remember it so fondly.
06:28I wish I was back there now.
06:30Valencia, I brought my children, my husband.
06:32We all went, we walked along the beach.
06:34We had the most beautiful food.
06:36We went out for dinner.
06:38It was, we went hiking in the mountains.
06:43I mean, take us back there now, please.
06:46It was beautiful.
06:47I cannot remember the name of the...
06:48It's sort of up a hill in Barcelona,
06:52just outside of Barcelona.
06:53And there's a beautiful monastery.
06:54So, the monasteries.
06:55Montserrat, maybe?
06:56Yes, Montserrat.
06:57Thank you, thank you, thank you.
06:59Montserrat, that's what we were.
07:01So, yeah, Montserrat and Valencia.
07:02And you're right.
07:03It feels like a character within the piece.
07:06Yeah.
07:07It's actually, I think, very special
07:08because when you think about the Star Wars filming,
07:11you always think about green screens
07:12or the stagecraft.
07:14So, I guess, like, filming in a real place,
07:17it had to be something different,
07:19something special for you, right?
07:20But, yeah.
07:21Yeah, I mean, forevermore now,
07:25the Star Wars Senate will be Valencia.
07:28No, you're right.
07:29But I think you're right.
07:30When we're gifted as actors with real sets,
07:35with real locations,
07:37with the textures of the buildings,
07:39and we can access it.
07:44It's so beautiful.
07:46And it informs our performances.
07:49And Valencia will always be a part of that.
07:52Yeah, love it.
07:53And I want to ask you, Genevieve,
07:54because you have actually debuted in Star Wars 20 years ago.
07:59It's been a lot of time.
08:00So, I wanted to ask,
08:01how do you see the future of the franchise
08:03now that it has to face all these changes
08:05with Kathleen Kennedy looking for a substitute
08:07and all like that?
08:08How do you see the future of this franchise?
08:10I think Star Wars speaks across cultures,
08:17across generations,
08:18to many different people.
08:20I think its simplicity of message
08:22is something universal,
08:24and people love it.
08:26I feel terribly fortunate to be a part of it.
08:30And I think its message is a beautiful message.
08:34And I hope it can continue
08:37to bring thought and joy
08:41and compassion
08:43to people in the future
08:46as much as we're striving for in Andor.
08:49Yes.
08:50How beautiful is that?
08:51I have to wrap up.
08:52Guys, again, congratulations,
08:54because this show is amazing,
08:55and you did an amazing work.
08:57Thank you.
08:57Thank you so much.
08:58Bye, love.
08:59Thank you.
08:59Bye, love.
