00:00Outside, takes it right baseline, double-team, past the corner, there's Santos, his jumper's up and good, a three-ball left corner pocket for Gee, and the Warriors take a two-point lead.
00:10Hey, it's Moses Moody with the Golden State Warriors. Now back to Stiney and Guru.
00:15Alright, thank you Moses, and hopefully, well no, he will be joining us in the next 40 minutes when he gets time after practice.
00:22Moses Moody will be joining us live from Houston after the Warriors beat the Houston Rockets 95-85 last night.
00:32And yeah, Gee Santos, every point counts in the postseason, and he got the Warriors five, including a three.
00:38How many minutes did he end up playing? Seven.
00:41But he was fine, he chipped in, just like, who else, Peyton?
00:48Seven.
00:48When did he come back with Moody, actually? We gotta find that out before we get Moody, because he brought Moody back with about five minutes left, I think.
00:57But the Warriors get game one and game two set for Houston on Wednesday.
01:02I need your help, and I don't need you to be a smart aleck, but Friday I was saying, and I tweeted out that the Warriors did this yesterday, Stiney.
01:11I tweeted out, I felt like the Warriors made the Rockets feel them early.
01:16Now, when it's all said and done, the Rockets did a great job holding this Warrior team to under 100.
01:22I was nervous about them slapping the hand, getting dirty.
01:26Do you feel like Houston played that card?
01:29Or, I felt like they left a lot desired in that category, getting rough and rugged.
01:34I mean, I thought the Rockets came out, and when they got up 13-5 after, what, six, seven minutes, their pressure was bothering the Warriors.
01:48And especially right off the jump, in terms of game one of the playoffs.
01:53But the Warriors, and this is, to me, why the three veterans are important, is there was no panic.
02:01And by the end of the first quarter, the Warriors had gotten it back to three.
02:05And then at that point, I feel like the game settles in.
02:09The Rockets have lost a little bit of their defensive edge.
02:12And now, as you play the game, and it becomes apparent the Rockets are really struggling to score.
02:21I think at some point in that game, the Rockets realized they were kind of swimming upstream.
02:26And the Warriors ended up taking a 23-point lead.
02:30It got down to three.
02:32Do I think that's a big deal?
02:34Not really.
02:35I don't.
02:36Not in the NBA.
02:37Not when a home team's playing their first playoff game.
02:40You knew they were going to pick it up defensively.
02:43But the Warriors held on.
02:44And to me, the reason they won that ballgame is because they got up 23.
02:49Yeah, 13 points by the Rockets in the second quarter.
02:5234 total in the half.
02:55That many.
02:56Man.
02:56By the way, Moses Moody came back with seven minutes and 49 seconds left in the game.
03:02Right after GP2 just got back-to-back baskets to push it to eight.
03:06So, he actually replaced Payton, who was playing pretty well at the time.
03:10So, they got nine points out of that position in the fourth quarter.
03:16Yeah.
03:17Good point, Evan.
03:17888-957-9570 is the number.
03:21Let's go to Gene in Oakland.
03:23Gene.
03:23Hey, Gene.
03:24How you doing?
03:26I'm doing good.
03:27I'm doing very good.
03:28So, I want to start off with another mea culpa.
03:32So, the first one, of course, was when Butler came.
03:36And, you know, I was one of the people that said, no, please don't do this.
03:41This is a big mistake.
03:42And, boy, was I wrong.
03:44Thank God I was.
03:46The second is, you know, I've been kind of ragging on Curry all season.
03:50I really thought he was done or close to done, you know, a couple of months ago.
03:54I didn't think he had this left in him, frankly.
03:58And now I look back and I see, well, I guess it was the injury and maybe he was a little dispirited because they were going nowhere.
04:05So, he seems to have the injury such as it was under control.
04:10And, of course, we've seen what Butler has done to the, you know, the energy and the motivation and the, you know, and everything for the team.
04:17So, he seems like a new man.
04:21And, you know, last night was a perfect example.
04:24And because, you know, I think we've still got the old Curry, the sort of game four version, at least for, you know, some of the games, hopefully a majority of them.
04:35I think we have a decent chance to go deep in the playoffs.
04:39And I'm thinking back to 2022.
04:42I'm kind of feeling like I did then.
04:44Of course, we were the three seed and a little younger then.
04:46But, and if we somehow manage to win the whole thing this year, it'll be historic.
04:52I'm aware of that.
04:53Houston was, you know, I guess the lowest ranked team rated.
04:57Oh, yeah, that's true.
04:58I think in 95, you know.
05:01So, but I think we got a shot.
05:04Yeah.
05:05Just as I did back in 2022, I thought that the team that scared me the most then is the same as the team that scares me the most now, the Boston Celtics.
05:15Yeah, thanks, Gene.
05:17And I, I, you, Gene used the word.
05:20That was the word.
05:23Dispirited.
05:24I, I think that's exactly what was going on with Steph.
05:27And once they got Jimmy Butler, he knew they had a chance to win and he became a different player.
05:34And Draymond, for that matter, too.
05:36As it relates to Boston, yeah, don't worry about the Eastern Conference team yet.
05:41I mean, you're going to get him down with a little wrist issue.
05:44He'll be all right.
05:45You're going to get him when you get him.
05:47You're going to get a team regardless whether it's Cleveland, whether it's Indiana, whether it's Boston.
05:54So, they have time to figure that out.
05:58But I, you know, the other thing that I'd, I'd be remiss is I am watching that game last night and it is a grind and it is playoff basketball and it was tough.
06:12And I'm looking at those minutes with those big guys.
06:18That is going to be the name of the game.
06:21Figuring out a way to, to keep those guys fresh if they possibly can.
06:25Because even a game like last night, I, I thought, boy, every series is going to be a grind.
06:33It just is.
06:34Even if it's 4-1 or 4-2, I think that, you know, this series still has a long way to go and obviously the playoffs have a long, long way to go.
06:44But I get that.
06:45But at the end of the day, too, I know you didn't subscribe to this, but I did, Stony.
06:49I mean, this minute usage has been high by these three and it's been like for a while.
06:54So, you know, we talk about Steph and, and I just bring him up because he's got four rings and he's the leader of this team trying to get number five.
07:02And we won't even discuss what that, where that would put him all time.
07:06But the fact that a guy like him could see that, that prize down the road, I just wonder if that goes into, you know what, Stony, you are right.
07:15A 37-year-old shouldn't be playing 40 minutes.
07:18How much can I do it?
07:19But the further you get down the road game by game and you can kind of taste it and get closer to it, I wonder if, because right now, Stony, there's no point to take your foot off the gas pedal.
07:29They needed every 40 minutes of Steph Curry, 42 from Jimmy Butler, and I think 37 from Jay, that's going to be consistent all the way through as far as they get.
07:40Yeah, well.
07:41Especially when you have said one of our young guys is not even part of the rotation anymore.
07:46Right.
07:46So we've got a long, long way to go.
07:49A long way to go.
07:51And let's not forget that the Warriors, okay, you all said it, they were playing meaningful games for the last six weeks.
08:00Okay?
08:02Steve Kerr acknowledged the last week of the season, they were gassed.
08:07They lost to the Spurs, they lost to the Clippers, and they lost to the Rockets.
08:11And he made a point that they needed to win that game against Memphis so bad because they needed four days off.
08:19Okay?
08:20The Warriors got four days off, and they came out and they played a darn good game, effort-wise at least, against the Houston Rockets.
08:27Now, they're not playing every other day yet, but game two's Wednesday.
08:31Like, they got to, it's going to be a different game.
08:34Let's see how everybody reacts.
08:37No, I'm with you.
08:38And, like, I don't even want to, my prediction was five, I know you had them in six, but man, Stiney, the sooner they could, if somehow they can steal tomorrow or win tomorrow, you kind of could get this done.
08:51And who would have saw this rest being an opportunity this fast, this soon, you know, early in the playoffs?
08:57I did.
08:58Remember Friday, I said, you know, it's, the Warriors not only maybe have to make a deep run, but they may have to end some series a little bit early so that they get rest before another series.
09:10And, again, I pointed out to 2023, when Sacramento took them to seven, and that exacted a toll on the Warriors.
09:22There's just no doubt about it.
09:24And they had to play the Lakers without any rest because they played a seven-game series.
09:28So, yeah, you're right.
09:30I mean, if they could get this thing over sooner rather than later, all that stuff's going to add up and mean something positive if the Warriors can do that, I would think.
09:40Let's go to UD in Alameda.
09:45Hey, guys.
09:46First-time caller.
09:47Love you so.
09:48Thanks.
09:50I think I'm just making the same point you guys are making is that yesterday's game was very important to win because we would get the home advantage back.
10:00And we have it.
10:01Yep.
10:01But seeing an average of 41 minutes between Curry and Butler really scares me if you want to go deep in this playoff.
10:10You know, basically the injury scare, right?
10:12So, I'm thinking, like, combined 15 minutes need to come off both of them somewhere.
10:19And I'm not going to mention, you know, the name.
10:22But we need to take that chance.
10:26For example, the next game, we should do that.
10:28Because, I mean, if we lose next game, it's still not that bad.
10:31But we can't have injury scare when we want to go and win the championship.
10:35That's all, sir.
10:36Thanks, UD.
10:37Appreciate the call.
10:38It is funny, Stoney.
10:39Real quick.
10:40You know, I won't mention his name.
10:41That's the new thing.
10:43You know, people won't let it go.
10:45You know, so from now, like, if you told me Butler's 42 minutes last night was 38, I can make the case they lose the game.
10:53If you tell me Curry's 40 minutes, Stoney, is 36, I can make the case they lose the game.
10:59But here we are, but I'm not saying the caller's wrong, but, you know, J.K.'s name won't go away.
11:06And now it's kind of resurfacing, you know, to spell others.
11:10But it's like, dude, he's not.
11:12Hey, and I'm his biggest, you know, supporter, but I've accepted we're not going to see him.
11:18I wouldn't say that.
11:20But, I mean, again, a lot of times these, like, a lot of times the playoffs go a way you don't expect.
11:27And I'm not saying it's going to happen Wednesday, but Warriors could get blown out on Wednesday.
11:33And then it's a win-win in a way because then you don't play your starters a lot and you still have more rest.
11:39I mean, look, there's no secret that the Warriors are loving the way the first three games have set up.
11:46I mean, you couldn't have asked for a better scenario, four days off before game one and two days off each between games two and game three.
11:55So, I don't necessarily think the age of the Warriors is going to come into play right away.
12:05But I think it'll eventually come into play.
12:08And then at that point the Warriors have to decide whether they want to keep running the big boys out there 40 minutes if they're losing a little bit of effectiveness.
12:18Or they want to maybe try to go with some younger players.
12:21Yeah, and I'll just leave you with this on this subject matter.
12:25I guess, Donnie, if that's the only way we're going to see him in a blowout, and I would understand why,
12:29then the battle's kind of lost already because the more time and minutes go by that he's not playing,
12:36how do you trust one, even if his name was Tony, to be ready coming off of something that's been jarring,
12:42I'm sure, deep inside of him getting DNPs?
12:46You know, where's the trust component?
12:48Because I know I would be a little, you know, hesitant to put you back in the game
12:52if I'd known you hadn't played for three times if it's not a blowout.
12:55Well, maybe a game or some games in the postseason.
13:00The Warriors don't have it going.
13:02They need a spark.
13:03They're not scoring.
13:05But their defenses, you know, they're giving up too many points.
13:09I mean, I wouldn't close the book on Kaminga entirely.
13:13But I also wouldn't go into every game expecting him to have a role.
13:18I mean, I think the first step for Kaminga is the next time he gets in a game to be productive.
13:24And help the team win a game.
13:29And I think if he does that, then Kerr will be less reluctant to go to him the next time.
13:36Let's go to Idris and Hayward.
13:38Hey, Idris, how you doing?
13:42Hey, fellas.
13:43Long time, long time.
13:44Always good to hear y'all.
13:45I just want to talk about the game last night.
13:47You know, Curry's crazy threes, man.
13:50You know, it never gets old.
13:51You know, and it's like the Houston crowd and those play a big role.
13:57We win the storm in the beginning.
13:59That first quarter, I was like, oh, snap.
14:01They started, like, pushing us.
14:04And I'm watching the previous game.
14:05I'm like, is this going to be a blowout because we're tired?
14:07But then we ended up doing what we had to do.
14:11Now, I want to talk about something that we've talked about.
14:13You saw a dream.
14:14We're up by, like, four points.
14:16Ah, you got to call back, Idris, we're losing you.
14:21But I'm always interested in a take nobody's heard.
14:24Yeah.
14:24Sounded like it was Draymond-esque.
14:28By the way, Warriors postseason coverage is brought to you by the Agape Golf Tournament
14:33on Monday, April 28th at Stone Tree Golf Club.
14:37And it's presented by Atco Pest Control.
14:40I'll be there along with Guru.
14:42We'll be broadcasting live 10 to 2.
14:44That's next Monday, and if you want to play, go to 957thegame.com and click on the events
14:50tab to sign up.
14:52And here's the best part.
14:53All proceeds will benefit the North Bay and Golden Gate Regional Centers, as well as the
14:59San Francisco Autism Society of the Bay Area.
15:02So if you want to play some golf next Monday, go to 957thegame's webpage and hit the events
15:08tab.
15:08That's going to start.
15:09I found this out, Stoney, while we're doing our show, duh.
15:12But Willard and Dibbs will be in that.
15:15They'll be playing.
15:16Who's the better golfer?
15:19Willard's better, but I don't think they're going to be playing, remember?
15:24They're going to be at Splash.
15:26Oh, yeah, you're right.
15:27Help me out.
15:28Damn it.
15:29That's all right, but good by you.
15:31Yeah, thank you.
15:34I got Dibbs being the better golfer.
15:36He's not than Willard.
15:37Willard's better.
15:38Willard's not a good Shasky.
15:40Willard's the best golfer at the station, probably.
15:43I don't know about sales.
15:44But how did he get that from you?
15:46How did who?
15:47Willard.
15:47You've never seen him play.
15:49He's got a handicap.
15:51That's how you judge how good a player is.
15:54Mine's 16.
15:55He's probably at 12.
15:57Yeah, Shasky's might be lower.
15:59He's not handicapped.
16:01Just in the studio.
16:03You guys, man.
16:05Let's go to Vincent Austin.
16:08Hey, Vince.
16:08How you doing, my man?
16:11Oh, I'm doing much better now that the Warriors did that beat down.
16:15By the way, the 95-7 golf rivalry, that's like Tiger versus McElroy.
16:20That's some pretty epic stuff.
16:22Who's the best golfer in the station?
16:25I'm going to say Shasky.
16:27Yeah.
16:28It's Willard or Shasky, probably.
16:32Nice.
16:34Taking it back to the actual ballgame, I think the Warriors, you know, everyone forgets.
16:40We run all these regular season numbers down, but everyone forgets when it comes time to
16:45the postseason, when it comes time to put the microwave, or I'm sorry, when it comes
16:50time to put the popcorn in the microwave, the Warriors play a better possession-to-possession
16:56basketball.
16:57And that's what postseason ball is.
16:58It's possession-to-possession.
17:00It's hard-nosed.
17:02I enjoyed the way Pajanski played last night.
17:06He's always really good on defense.
17:07I wish he could have a little better touch shooting.
17:13Curry, unbelievable.
17:14My thing with conditioning is, you know, Curry, remember I called in on Friday and we were
17:20talking about the national narrative and, oh, the Warriors were going to be tired?
17:24Hey, I saw some pretty tired Rockets players at the end of that game.
17:28You know, Curry, what people don't praise him about enough, not only is he phenomenal shooting
17:33the ball, he has to be one of the best-conditioned guys year in and year out.
17:42I mean, can we just talk about that for a minute?
17:45Hey, God bless you guys.
17:46Have a great day.
17:46Back at you.
17:47Yeah, thanks, Vince.
17:48Yeah, go ahead, Stani.
17:49I mean, there's no doubt he's in phenomenal shape.
17:52Incredible.
17:52But we didn't...
17:53Here we go.
17:54I got to be careful.
17:55I didn't feel that way pre-Jimmy.
17:57I didn't know if he was slowing down and I was honest enough to share it with you guys
18:01and I was fighting it and we found out it was a spacing issue and, boy, has he taken
18:06off since Jimmy Butler along with his Warrior team.
18:09But Steph is as fresh as a loaf of wonder bread.
18:13Right.
18:14I mean, they're also, you know, the NBA season's very long and maybe Curry was wearing down at
18:23that point of the season.
18:24It was getting to the halfway point.
18:26They weren't really going anywhere.
18:29And Jimmy Butler came and changed his mindset.
18:34Again, it's only one game and they got a long way to go.
18:41But I think in terms of the age and the fatigue of the older players, I don't anticipate seeing
18:48any of that for at least a week or so.
18:50Yeah, that's a good thing.
18:52Because they don't play till Wednesday and then they don't play till Saturday.
18:55Then it gets going.
18:56But the beauty of it is if you can somehow close this thing out in five, well, then guess what?
19:03You're going to get some rest before round two.
19:06There you are.
19:07If it goes to six or seven, you're going to get less rest between series one or two.
19:12So that's why you don't want to assume, oh, we're going to beat them in four or five.
19:19But if you did, that'd be great.
19:22Let's go to Dennis in San Francisco.
19:25Hey, Dennis.
19:25How are you?
19:28Good, guys.
19:28How are you doing today?
19:29Doing well.
19:30Great game last night.
19:34You know, you had a caller.
19:36I don't know if it was your show.
19:38I think I've listened to all the shows.
19:39But anyway, somebody was saying about how he thought Steph was lucky last night in a couple
19:45of those threes.
19:46And we all know we've been watching him do this for, like you said, 16 years or whatever.
19:50He's incredible.
19:52And Draymond's incredible.
19:54There's no beast in the league like him.
19:57Six foot six, guarding a six foot 11 guy who's 22 years old, a lot heavier, you know,
20:03and he's down there banging with them all game long.
20:06And Jimmy had a great game, too.
20:09So those three guys, you know, they won that game last night.
20:13But we're going to need Post to score.
20:16We're going to need Buddy Heald to score.
20:19We're going to need – it's all hands on deck.
20:21Everybody's going to have to contribute for us to win this series and go farther.
20:27And who knows?
20:28You guys are mentioning J.K.
20:29You know, I always call about him.
20:31I'm a J.K. fan.
20:33And, you know, maybe we will see him because I do worry about all the minutes these older
20:40guys are playing.
20:40And hopefully they will get some rest.
20:44Like, that's what I'm saying, all hands on deck.
20:45They need it from the other younger guys, you know, to go forward.
20:50And I'm hoping Quinton Post can find his outside shooting because that would help a lot.
20:55And same with Buddy Heald.
20:57But anyway, so it was a good first game.
20:59Hopefully we get – keep it going.
21:01Thanks, guys.
21:02Thank you, Dennis.
21:03Appreciate the call.
21:0412 of 32 from deep, Stonnie.
21:0638% from three.
21:07I know we had talked about the postseason.
21:09It's one game.
21:10You know, a concern was outside shooting.
21:13And I know Steph was on five of nine.
21:17But Potts three of six.
21:19Moody one of four.
21:20And Butler one of two.
21:22So, I mean, man.
21:23And Guy Santos hit one.
21:25So, it was a big one.
21:26Yeah.
