The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, joined his voice to express his deep condolences for the physical departure of Pope Francis, who passed away early Monday morning after suffering from a lung disease. Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, shared the statement on behalf of the National Executive.

00:22Pope Francis was a transforming spiritual leader whose clear and courageous voice denounced the inequalities of the dominant system
00:28and called for the construction of a more humane, just, and deeply united world.
00:33From his Latin American identity, he gave impetus to a church committed to the causes of the poor,
00:39to the protection of Mother Earth, and to dialogue between cultures and regions.
00:43His pontificate will be remembered for his profound option for the excluded, for his partial courage, and for his capacity to renew hope in the people.
00:53He was a man of God who did not hesitate to make the powerful uncomfortable with the truth of the gospel.
00:58Furthermore, the head of state added, Venezuela will always remember him as a sincere friend,
01:04as the Pope was pushed with determination, the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández,
