00:00Hi, my name is Nick Drane. I'm a PGA professional and Master Fitting Specialist here at the
00:08Titleist Performance Center at Woburn. In this video, we're going to talk about how to hit your
00:13fairway wood off the ground. One of the most common mistakes I see golfers make when they
00:22try to hit a fairway wood off the ground is that they try and lift the golf ball into the air.
00:26So from a good setup position, I see that their weight transfer works back to their trail side
00:33and they're trying to lift it in the air, catching it either in the bottom of the club or at the top
00:39of it and miss hitting it. In order to hit your three wood off the ground successfully, we need
00:47to do the opposite. So what I'd like to see is from a good setup position is that as you come into
00:53impact, you've actually got your weight transferring through towards your target. And what you'll see
00:59what some of the best players in the world do is a lot of them even actually take a small divot with
01:03their fairway wood, which implies that they're actually hitting down through the golf ball,
01:07much like how you'd hit an iron. By having the proper weight transfer, you're also going to present
01:12the entire club face to the golf ball, hitting it out of the sweet spot. Okay, so it might feel
01:18like you're taking loft off the golf club in this sense, but what you're doing is you're actually
01:22presenting the entire face of the golf ball, getting better contact and more distance and more
01:27consistency. The other important element to consider, we're all individual golfers with individual
01:33speeds, golf swings, how we deliver the golf club. The important thing to do, see a PGA professional,
01:38get properly fitted for a three wood. Traditionally, a three wood has been 15 degrees and loft, but for some
01:43golfers, they might need more loft initially. So you might find that you actually hit something like
01:4916 and a half or an 18 degree fairway wood further and better than a 15 degree three wood.
